Being the Dean Of Evil wasn’t ever Leonora’s plans but it’s where she ended up and appeared to be amazing at her job. But was she evil? Or maybe just hurt deep down? The world would never know the pain she’d been through and just how she dealt with her pain. While she held her scary exterior inside lay a soft gooey core that is ever so fragile and to be protected at all costs.
Being evil for so long tends to drain the red head, and with her Never students acting up more, it was worse than ever before. No one knew of the tentative relationship you and Lesso had began, but the tension between you both was simply too hard to ignore and one night with a lot of alcohol had confession’s of truth spilling from you both. Agreeing to try this out but of course no one could know, not until you both knew it would work of course.
That was a couple of months ago and things had been going rather well. You being an Ever made things slightly harder but both of you worked to find ways to meet in secrecy and have subtle changes in your daily life’s when it came to communication. That’s why it wasn’t uncommon for you to sneak into the Deans room after hours. There would be no students to catch you and should a member of staff see you, then you had a well rehearsed reason to be there.
Entering her room tonight felt different but you couldn’t put you finger on the reason why. With a quick scan of the room you could see nothing was out of its place however, Leonora was no where to be found which is odd. Normally she’s waiting with a signature look that’s just for you as her eyes room your body just drinking in your beauty.
“Nora?” You murmured in a hope she would appear but all that greeted you was silence. Moving forward into her chamber you made your way to her sleeping area. “Nora, darling?” You mumbled before knocking and pushing the heavy oak door open, never in a million years would you have expected the sight in front of you.
In the bed, Leonora was dressed in fussy orange socks with a lion onesie, colouring some pages that looked to be animal prints. Clearly she was in her own little world and you almost felt bad for intruding. Almost. The way she was currently looking at you jade you feel you were more needed than ever before. Being an ever you knew exactly what was going on here.
“Hi darling, watcha got there?” You whispered to her before settling on the edge of her bed. But Leonora said nothing just staring at you with her mouth agape like she’d seen a unicorn or something equally as magical. You couldn’t help but chuckle at her star struck expression, “close your mouth darling, you’ll be catching flys in a minute.”
“Princess” the red head stated still absolutely entranced by you. “You think I’m a princess darling?” You happily fed into her statement hoping to gain her trust. “Pretty” was slurred around the woman’s thumb that had made its way between her lips. It was so obvious what was happening here. With a gasp you responded, “well thank you little darling. I think you’re pretty too.”
Silence fell over the room again, you didn’t mind of course, clearly Leonora needed this and now wasn’t the time to talk about what this was, so you settled for giving her whatever she needed from you in this moment. “Raw!” Lesso growled as she continued to scribble in a pen that could honestly rival the woman’s hair colour. “Such a cute little lion” you murmured to her causing her to smile, not smirk but smile at you and blush. Leonora Lesso doesn’t blush… but your little lion here seemed to be the opposite.
It wasn’t long before Leonora had shoved a pen at you and instructed that you colour in certain areas, “ands no out of lines!” She firmly reprimanded after you went ever so slightly went over the lines. “I’m so sorry little cub” you feigned a pout.
“Im not use to sharing I sorry, I fix it then pretty princess happy and loves Leo lion!” A childish slur causing words to blur together and just sounding adorable. “Thank you little cub, I still love you little lion, how could I not with this cute mane on your head hmm?” You whispered before ruffling the fake mane on the hood of the lion onesie.
It wasn’t long after that small interaction you could see her little balled up fists rubbing at her eyes, a clear indication that it was in fact past midnight. “Little lion, aren’t you getting sleepy yet?” You attempted not knowing how to bring this up with her. But luckily she nodded and crawled straight into your lap, her head nestled into your neck and a hand resting above your heart. It was clear you weren’t going anywhere tonight but opted to soothe Leonora to sleep so you could move the woman without disturbing her. Although the little version of Lesso was okay with you acting like a caregiver that didn’t mean Leonora was too. Your hand gently rubbed soothing circles on her back as you swayed your legs ever so slightly in hopes to comfort her. Just when you thought she’d drifted off you caught her sleepy mumble off, “thank you for looking after me princess.”

> a/n: as someone who is 5'1", i humbly present myself as the subject of teasing for this fic 🙇🏻‍♀️

“I have this song that I just can't seem to remember the title.” You paced in front of Lesso's desk as she graded her students papers.
“Perhaps you could elaborate it more, dear.” Lesso looked up from the papers and leaned against her chair.
“It has something to do with eyes.” You clicked your fingers, trying to think about the lyrics and notes of the song.
Lesso raised an eyebrow at your explanation. Eyes. Where did Lesso hear a song with eyes as subjects? After a few minutes of thinking, something in Lesso clicked and she started chuckling.
Stopping from your movements, you turned to Lesso and gave her a questioning look. “What are you laughing at?”
“I think I've cracked what you are searching for, dearest.” Both of you leaning forward, you met halfway and asked. “Well, what is it?”
“Does the song contain lyrics like... “we're face to face, but we don't see eye to eye”?” Lesso mimicked the students she remembered singing the song at the hall during lunch.
Lesso's obvious teasing of your height didn't go unnoticed by you. She was right, it was the song you were searching for but she could've told you about it more gently, instead of poking at your lack of tallness.
Rolling your eyes, you leaned back and took a seat at one of the chairs. “Ha ha, very funny.”
“Oh it is to me, dear.”
---
“Ah, Yuba.” Lesso stood up and called Yuba as the meeting ended. “Just the person I'm looking for.”
Yuba narrowed his eyes and crossed his arms. Whatever Lesso was planning, he knows he's about to do something for her that he doesn't want to. “What is it?” He asked whilst walking towards the redhead.
“Do you, possibly, have a monkey in the forest?”
Furrowing his brows, Yuba uncrossed his arms and tilted his head. “A monkey?” you, Dovey, and Yuba asked simultaneously.
“Why would you need a monkey, Lesso?” Dovey asked as she neared Yuba's figure.
Waving her hands, Lesso pursed her lips in concentration. “I overheard that to properly talk to short people, you would need a monkey to raise them up. A little like Lion King if you ask me.”
Knowing that Lesso was teasing you, you gave a huff and grabbed your papers then stomped out of the room, but not without giving Lesso a heated glare.
Shaking her head, Dovey pulled Yuba towards the exit. “Oh, Lesso.”
---
“Tell us a bit more about you, Y/N.” Uma coaxed you whilst putting down her wine glass.
It was a weekend and the faculty of both the Good and Evil were having a team building that consisted of bottles of wine, champagne, and whiskey.
Clearing your throat, you glanced at Lesso and started. “Well, when I was little–”
“You mean yesterday?”
Closing your eyes, you let out a breath and downed your wine. “Careful. Underage drinking is prohibited.”
“That's it!” you slammed your empty glass and stood up, leaving the room.
Uma glanced at Lesso and rolled her eyes at the redhead's smiling face. “For the love of– Lesso!”
---
“Princess? Are you here?”
Lesso knocked on your quarters door, looking for any sign of you being in there. Truthfully, she was going to apologize. Dovey made sure of it by scolding and giving Lesso a much needed sermon.
“Go the fuck away, Leonora.” Lesso heard behind the door. She knew she fucked up when you used her first name, so without thinking, Lesso opened your door and waltz inside.
Once she was inside, she saw you sprawled on the living room floor, with flower petals around you. “Oh my love, have you been cutting rose heads?”
“What do you think?” you snapped at Lesso and sat up. “Did these petals somehow end up here in my living room magically?”
“I–”
Growling at the redhead, you stood up and kicked the petals on your feet. “Grow the fuck up, Lesso.”
“I sure did.” Lesso winced at her mouth's automatic response and sighed. “I'm sorry, it became a habit.” She walked towards you and took your hands in hers.
“I apologize for teasing you all the time.”
Huffing, you looked up at Lesso with wide eyes. “Why do you even do it?” you shook her hands off yours and sat down on the couch.
“It's the only way for you to look at me.”
Scoffing at the Lesso's words, you crossed your arms and bit your lip. “I always look at you.”
“Not in the way I want you to.” Lesso confessed as she sat down beside you.
“How'd you know if you weren't looking?” You glanced at her and moved closer, almost cuddling the redhead beside you.
“I– uh– I didn't know.” Lesso fiddled with her cane and copied your movements.
Giving her a kiss on the cheek, you sighed. “Oh, Lesso.”

Hello! I love your writing sm. Could I request a Lady Lesso × F!Reader oneshot? It doesnt matter if it's fluff, smut, lemon etc!
Hey !!!! Thank you so much for your kind words 🙏 ❤️. They mean a lot to me !!
I had started writing this one before receiving this request and I think that this is different than the usual one-shots in which Lady Lesso is the dean of evil and the woman in power.
So, I hope you enjoy this !
I'm not a child anymore
Tumblr media
Part 2
You titled your head to the side at the sight of the new reader.
A lonely, little girl with red hair approaching you.
You raised an eyebrow when she stopped in front of you. " Excuse me, but what's this place ? Why am I here ? Are we in Europe or- "
You hit your cane on the floor to make her stop. " This is the great, best of its kind, school for evil. And I. "
You paused. You took a step back moving your cane in a circular motion for emphasis. " I am its dean. You may call me Lady L/N. "
The girl frowned. " I haven't heard of this school, what- "
" Nah, nah, nah. " You cut her off with a fake pout.
" You were given a marvelous chance to be selected, among so many people, to attend this hallow institution, Leonora. " You told her.
Leonora's eyes widened at the sound of her name.
" Of Gavaldon. " You added with a smirk. " That's your name, is it not, reader ? That's what we call the people from the outside world, because they only read our fairytales, never had a chance to participate in them, unlike you. "
The reader swallowed hard. She was confused beyond-.
" Now, now. If you excuse me, but I have fresh villainy to attend to. " You said and before giving a chance to the girl to stop you, you turned on your heels and vanished through the corridors.
꧁☾︎❥︎☽︎꧂
You watched her in your lessons; afraid and lonely at first but too stubborn to give up.
She grew and so did her confidence and strength.
At the end of her third year you spotted a change on her behavior, though.
She was showering you with dreaming gazes, her mind being everywhere but in the classroom.
You were confused but didn't elaborate on the phenomenon because her grades were excellent as always.
The glances continued.
However, you found yourself enjoying them.
Enjoying someone's full attention.
Last time you had it... well, you preferred not to remember that period...
But then again, you couldn't deny the girl's natural beauty.
After a certain incident with Rafal; it was dealt with success, Celeste, the dean of the school for good wanted to have her expelled.
You dismissed the thought immediately, you were Leonora's dean after all, not Celeste.
The headmaster agreed with you and supported your decision.
Two weeks before Leonora's graduation; you called her in your office.
" You asked for me, Lady L/N. " The girl- no, woman stated.
" I did, indeed. " You nodded and stood up to walk around your desk.
Leonora's eyes followed every and each of your moves. The slight sway of your hips as you approached her, the forming smirk on your lips.
You stopped in front of her remembering that you used to be taller than her.
" Have you received any job offers, yet ? " You asked her with interest.
She took a deep breath starting to understand why you were questioning this.
" No, my dean. Not yet. " She replied timidly.
Your smirk widened. " Well, that's why I'm here, is it not ? "
Leonora raised an eyebrow. " May you clarify the reason of me being here ? "
" Of course. " You leaned against your desk.
" The excellence of your grades came to my attention. If you are interested, there's an opening. You have all the time until your graduation to decide. " You informed her with a smile.
You knew the answer she was to give, though.
The way Leonora's face shone, the way her lips parted, the little spark in her eyes, the way her hands nervously smoothed her black attire.
" There's... There's no need, Lady L/N. I accept. " She answered smiling.
" Thank you. " She added quickly.
You smiled back. " The pleasure is all mine. "
꧁☾︎❥︎☽︎꧂
She graduated. With the best marks in both of the schools.
Good's best student, Clarissa Dovey was a close second, but.
" Close doesn't cut it. " She had told you once.
Leonora became a professor.
The perfect example of a young villain.
Ambitious yet deadly, vengeful and most importantly.
Violent.
She was making you crazy.
Even if you were just... friends..., you were giving her whatever she wished for.
An office with a window.
Done in less than a day.
Bigger quarters.
Done in less than a day as well; she needed a little while to move in though.
Generally saying, you provided.
You provided her anything she wanted with her not even asking twice.
Leonora was trying to spend as much time as possible with you.
There was no way the girl would confess her feelings for you without making sure that you reciprocated them.
You were standing in front of the lake looking at the blue shimmering waters.
The moon was standing proudly, like you but darkness prevailed hiding everything under its vicious vail.
You were so lost in thought that you missed the sound of a person approaching you.
" So, here you are ! I searched the whole school and yet failed to find you. " A voice said next to you.
You turned to look at her. Unlike any other person at both schools, you weren't only able to see through the dark but also become one with the shadows.
Your gift was allowing you to watch over everything and everyone without anybody's knowledge.
Nobody could tell whether a shadow was just a shadow or if it contained you too.
" Oh. I can't imagine how long this must have taken. " You responded.
You raised an eyebrow when Leonora's grip on her cane tightened. " It did, indeed, take long. But I never surrender. "
You smirked knowing that she couldn't see it. " Of course,  you don't. "
Leonora raised her head proudly, eyes at your direction. " Stop mocking me. I'm not a child anymore. "
Your smirk fell as fast as it came in first place. Your pupils dilated while you examined her face.
Determination, confidence, pride, agitation.
You could see these feelings and so many more.
But there was also one hiding behind them all.
Hurt.
Leonora was desperately trying to prove herself and win you over; how can she win you over though, if you keep treating her like a little, naive teenager ?
Noticing that you were too speechless to speak, Leonora turned on her heels to leave.
She had wasted so much time in you.
And all you could think was that she was still some kind of stupid little child.
You looked at her understanding that if you let her leave, there would be no coming back.
Lesso started walking away and it was that moment when you knew.
You either told her the truth or there would be no chance anymore.
It was now or never.
" I just didn't want to abuse my power, alright !? " You shouted after her.
Lesso, the name she chose to adopt when she became a professor, stopped dead at her tracks.
She had heard you, obviously.
Shocked, the woman slowly turned her body to face you.
" You were still my student, Leonora. And afterwards, my protégé... Have you any idea what people would say about you if we were together !? " You continued shouting because neither of you walked closer to the other one.
" They would call you slut and so much more ! I couldn't do this to you ! " You screamed at her.
Leonora was on the verge of crying; she finally understood why you never talked her off for her little glances or never encouraged them.
You were acting normal until the right time.
She wasn't the only one who waited and waited for something more to come.
You walked closer to her noticing that she wouldn't move.
You stopped right in front of her locking eye contact with her.
" I'm sorry if I made you feel unwanted or unappealing. The truth is that you are the exact opposite. " You admitted.
Leonora's cheeks changed color, turning a deep shade of crimson.
You opened your mouth to continue your confession but she stopped you with a finger on your lips.
" It's alright; you don't have to apologize for doing the right thing. I was just a child, I needed time to grow and think. You didn't know if it was a silly crush or something more serious. I understand. " Leonora assured you taking your free hand in hers.
You were both carrying your canes so you both had only one free hand.
" You do ? " You inquired. For some weird reason you thought that she wouldn't.
Leonora smiled at you and gave you the best answer she could muster.
She pressed her lips to yours.

Last read:
Title: Anne of Avonlea
Author: Lucy Maud Montgomery
Number of Pages: 276
Rating: ★★★★☆
First published: 1909
Read: 22 May 2022 - 4 September 2022
Thoughts:
It was a nice read, but I didn't like it quite as much as Anne of Green Gables.
It was courious how Marilla ended up adopting the twins. However, I don't understand why and I certainly don't like that Anne and Marilla (and Rachel Lynde) prefer Davy over Dora.
I liked Mr.Harrison and I'm sorry his parrot died. Nevertheless, the story about him and his wife was unexpected and entertaining.
My favorite character from this book is Miss Lavendar Lewis. She is wonderful and her love story was the best part of the novel. I really liked Stephen Irving. I was as excited for him and Miss Lavendar as were Anne and Charlotta!
I was amused by Charlotta the Fourth (Leonora Bowman) and I was happy to see that miss Lavendar took her with her.
Often times, I found Paul Irving to be to much, but I suposse he grew on me by the end. Anyway, I was glad for him, his dad and his new stepmom.
I appreciate L. M. Montgomery writing Marilla and Rachel's friendship. I wish they find a way to live in harmony together. In my opinion, the love and support between women doesn't get enough mention or credit in general, let alone in literature.
I was thrown by Diana and Fred Wright's engagement! I can fully understand Anne's reflections on the matter: there emerge an odd feeling.
I hope there is more to me to relate to now that Anne is going to college.
I expected to see more of Gilbert and Anne's friendship in this novel. Maybe in the next one.

The Family Code of the Philippines
Title IV - Property Relations Between Husband And Wife
Republic of the Philippines SUPREME COURT Manila
FIRST DIVISION
G.R. No. L-27421 September 12, 1986
ANITA MANG-OY, assisted by her husband, William Mang-oy; LEONORA MIGUEL, assisted by her husband, Miguel Olila; HELENA TAYNAN, and JOSE TUMPAO, petitioners, vs. THE COURT OF APPEALS, BANDO TUMPAO, LAMBIA TUMPAO, married to Salming Pirazo, and ABITO TUMPAO, respondents.

On September 4, 1937, Old Tumpao executed what he called “last will and testament which were read to and thumb mark affixed by all of the beneficiaries who at the time were already occupying the portions respectively allotted to them. After the death of Old Tumpao, the parties remained to be in possession of the lots assign to them which was in accordance of the wishes of old Tumpao which was also agreed upon by the parties in a public document.
On November 4, 1960, respondents executed an extra-judicial partition in which they divided the property of Old Tumpao among the three of them only. Petitioners sued for reconveyance , sustained by trial court but reversed by CA.
ISSUE: Whether or not the Will and testament” of Old Tumpao be duly allowed even without being proved in the court
RULING: In accordance with the rules of court, no will shall pass either real or personal property unless it is proved or allowed in court.
However, the document maybe sustained by art 1056 of the Old Civil Code which was the law in force at the time the document was made. The law says: “If the testator should make a partition of his properties by an act inter vivors, or by will such partition shall stand in so far as it does not prejudice the legitimacy of the forced heirs.” Such partition is not governed by the rules of wills or donation inter vivos, which is a consequence of its special nature. Thus, the last will and testament of Old Tumpao is sustained by the provision of Art 1056, Old Civil Code, which became a binding law when the beneficiaries, parties herein, agreed and confirmed with the disposition made by Old Tumpao.

Potenza irresistibile: Leonora is Unstoppable
aka an empowered reading of (yet another) tragic opera heroine
aka my thoughts on Il Trovatore pt 3
(title from Manrico’s line in Act 2: Potenza irresistibile hanno de' fiumi l'onde! - The waves of the rivers have an irresistible force!)
Tumblr media
with pictures because I have provided you ample walls of text as it is
Quick aside before we get into the libretto: in part 2 I concluded that both Azucena and Leonora are the only ones who really get what they want in this opera, and I think it’s pretty clear with Azucena... “Sei vendicata, o madre!” (even if we are unclear if she intentionally organized Manrico’s death and/or was conflicted by it or not).
Leonora. “I just came out to have a good time and honestly I’m feeling so attacked right now.” @ Ines, @ di Luna, even @ Manrico at the end
Because, out of everyone in this opera, Leonora is... happy? (I mean, yeah, she’s kind of set 100% of her hopes and dreams on this guy, and when she thinks he’s dead, she’s ready to head to the convent to pray to God until she can be reunited with him in death, saying “un riso, una speranza, un fior la terra non ha per me!”  - earth no longer has for me laughter, hope, or flowers! But look at her circumstances and context, and it’s still a choice she’s making, herself, about how she wants to live. Respect.)
[sociological examination about religious/cultural factors influencing WHY she would make that particular choice: coming to a bookstore near you in 2022]
Tumblr media
“I swear go God, Ines (literally, I just did) can you just support me for once and trust me on this” (jk I love Ines she’s just doing her best too)
Okay, but to get back to the point... Leonora just has this sparkle. She’s filled with life and joy and happiness in the beginning (and - while yeah, my 21st century feminist me is like *facepalms* don’t make it dependent on another person, especially not a guy, especially not a guy who isn’t really even that focused on you as a person, but more as a possession he has to jealously protect from Rivals - her joy is revived when Marico returns and honestly thank gosh he does, since otherwise di Luna was gonna wreck those convent plans.) ANYWAYS  - di Luna clearly sees and wants to possess this sparkle, clearly having none of it himself.
Some exerpts from the libretto of this sparkly joy none of the characters ever get....(di Luna tries, haha...“la gioia che m'aspetta, gioia mortal, non è!“ but learns that maybe trying to seize someone against their will isn’t the best way to Spark Joy)
Tumblr media
We’ve got Act 1 - “Gioia provai che agl'angeli solo è provar concesso! ...Di tale amor che dirsi mal può dalla parola...”  Joy only the angels can feel...such love that cannot be described by words! - Act 2, upon rescue by/reunion with her beloved - “Non regge a tanto giubilo rapito il cor, sorpreso!”  My surprised heart cannot bear such joy! - and finally, Act 4, once she is certain of saving Manrico - “ Vivrà! Contende il giubilo i detti a me!” He’ll live - my joy strips me of words!
Gosh, for such a tragic opera (if you take it seriously), Leonora is just this bundle of joy. Even in Act 4. It’s impressive.
She just has this energy, and I think it’s some sort of radiance from self-awareness and knowing exactly what she wants. You also may notice Leonora doens’t leave a body count the way di Luna, Manrico, and Azucena do. Well, unless you count herself :( but my point is she’s not about hurting people to get what she wants. And Leonora makes it explicitly clear from Act I: “ S'io non vivrò per esso, per esso morirò” - if I cannot life for him, I will die for him.
Leonora knows what she wants and nothing, NOTHING, and NOBODY is going to get in her way! And HOO BOY does di Luna try! So the convent kidnapping shit he tried to pull with the “not even God can claim [Leonora]” attitude didn’t pan out... but it also proved to Leonora that God wouldn’t necessarily save her (convent-style at least) so she leveled up and remembered OH YEAH PLANTS! *cue Juliet line*:
“ I'll to the friar, to know his remedy: If all else fail, myself have power to die.“
Tumblr media
And honestly, she’s badass about it, too. From Act 1, she’s pretty fearless, from the moment Ines expresses fear and doubt about her infatuation with Manrico -
INES: Quanto narrasti di turbamento m'ha piena l'alma! Io temo...   What you say disturbs my soul, I fear [for you!] LEONORA: Invano! [You fear] in vain! (or: don’t fear!)
Leonora’s not afraid. She’s simply on a mission. Once Shit Gets Real and di Luna promises to kill Manrico, maintaining strict alignment with Mission “S'io non vivrò per esso, per esso morirò,”  asking di Luna to “Piombi, piombi il tuo furoresulla rea che t'oltraggiò, vibra il ferro in questo core che te amar non vuol né può”- Let your fury fall on the evil girl who offended you; plunge your sword into this heart that cannot, will not love you!
[again, not condoning Leonora’s choices, such as throwing herself under the ‘di Luna is going to blame Leonora for all his psycho actions’ Bus, but I respect her making her choices and fighting back]
Of course, di Luna is like “YOU CRAZY!” and literally tells Leonora her blood wouldn’t be enough to quell his rage. “l tuo sangue, o sciagurato, ad estinguerlo fia poco!” - Your blood, wretch, would hardly be enough! ~really playing the romance here~ :)
Leonora doesn’t get the point, since in Act 4, she repeats her pleas to exchange her live for Manrico’s - still not getting the Blood is Not Enough memo, apparently - “Svenami, ti bevi il sangue mio!” - Take me out**, drink my blood!
**no, di Luna, she isn’t asking you out on a date (sorry it’s so hard not to just 100% shitpost this opera) - but I couldn’t find a better translation. You don’t really say “faint me” in English and I don’t think the direct translation is “kill” but “take me out” seemed like an acceptable euphemism.
Tumblr media
Of course, Leonora ultimately ends up accomplishing her Mission. [Like I said in part 1, my initial reaction to her self-sacrificial death was just anger and disappointment. But in context, she’s pulling a valid Juliet move... her circumstances are awful and suffocating and there are very few ways out for her in the world she lives in... but she ends up exiting the game on her terms.
{At the subjective level, at least. Objectively, her only choices are a vampire who will suck her life dry [di Luna] - in which life might be merciless - or choosing to withdraw from life with Help from Plants [poison] - in which death is merciful. Again, sociological exploration of Leonora’s CHOICE ARCHITECTURE coming to booksellers near you. Might even include Alternate Ending: running away into the mountains with the gypsies instead, but we all know that isn’t part of Mission “S'io non vivrò per esso, per esso morirò.” Plus I think we are all familiar with the concept that as humans we are more likely to stick with the evil we know rather than strike out into the great unknown. Heck, somebody stop me, these asides will be the death by boredom or exasperation of us all. Wait, are you reading this!??! WOW and bless you!! Thanks and I’m sorry}
Unfortunately, Manrico has to be a little turdball and start cursing Leonora, being the jealous self-centered guy that he ultimately is, before he realizes what she’s done to save him. “Manrico I’m literally dying FOR YOU and this is how you repay me?”
In Act 1, she begs di Luna to see reason through his jealous rage, but by Act 4 it’s her own beloved, the person she’s organized her Life Goal around, who is displaying the same jealous, blinding rage, refusing to listen to her. “Oh come l'ira ti rende cieco! Oh quanto ingiusto, crudel, crudel!” Oh how rage blinds you, how injust, how cruel you are [Manrico]!
Oh, the sweet and cruel irony Leonora getting her unconditional, immense, “eternal” love dismissed because Manrico doesn’t get it the way he wanted it [i.e. uh oh are we going to circle back to possessiveness/jealousy? Is Leonora the only one - and granted, she is a little psycho/obsessed/infatuated à la di Luna, but without trying to POSSESS her object of affection -- who can love in a semi-healthy way in this opera?? apparently]. My poor girl. At least Manrico Comes to his Senses before she dies (just in time for him join Leonora’s fate himself). *sad cheering*
Tumblr media
Let me end by emphasizing that Leonora did not die JUST to “save Manrico.” Yes, the libretto says “Prima che d'altri vivere, io volli tua morir! “ - Rather than live as another’s, I wanted to die yours. But to me, it’s pretty clear she’s dying for herself - dying as her own self, as hers (I mean, technically she never became Manrico’s “legal property” anyways if we want to get into the morbid lack of womens’ rights, so she wasn’t even “his” in that way). And in the end, choice architecture aside, the point is that all the way, Leonora knew what she wanted, made her own decisions, stayed true to herself, and accomplished what she set her mind to. Nothing and nobody stopped her. Who’s to say what else she might have wanted if she had had different opportunities, choices, knowledge, or most importantly had been born in a different context.
(*faceplams* had been born?!! She’s a fictional character god Karo go to bed already) (*peels hands off face* it’s okay you are processing outrage over the Female Experience and Leonora represents a lot of real women, living and dead)
I conclude. LEONORA IS UNSTOPPABLE. Let’s part with some lovely lines from our complex (if a bit compulsively devoted), tragic, yet joyful, empowered, and fearless heroine:

Tu vedrai che amore in terra mai del mio non fu più forte: vinse il fato in aspra guerra, vincerà la stessa morte.
You will see that never on earth was there a stronger love than mine; it defeated Fate in violent strife, it will defeat death itself.

Solomiya Krushelnytska September 23 [11], 1872 — November 16, 1952) was a Ukrainian soprano, considered to be one of the brightest opera stars of the first half of the 20th century. During her life, Solomiya Krushelnytska was recognized as the most outstanding singer in the world. Among her numerous awards and distinctions, in particular, the title of "Wagner's diva" of the XX century. Singing with her on the same stage was considered an honor for Enrico Caruso, Titta Ruffo, Fedor Chaliapin. Italian composer Giacomo Puccini presented the singer with his portrait with the inscription "The most beautiful and charming Butterfly". She studied at the Ternopil school of Music. She received the basics of musical training at the Ternopil Classical Gymnasium, where she took external exams. Here she became close to the music group of high school students, a member of which was also Denis Sichinsky - later a famous composer, the first professional musician in Galicia. In 1883, at the Shevchenko Concert in Ternopil, Solomiya, who sang in the choir of the Ukrainska Besida society, made her first public performance. In 1891 Solomiya entered the Lviv Conservatory of the Galician Music Society. The leadership of the conservatory praised the abilities of the young singer. At the conservatory, her teacher was the then famous professor in Lviv, Valery Vysotsky, who raised a whole galaxy of famous Ukrainian and Polish singers. During her studies at the conservatory, her first solo performance took place on April 13, 1892, the singer performed the main part in GF Handel's oratorio "Messiah". On June 5, 1892, another performance of the singer took place in the Lviv Boyana, where she performed Mykola Lysenko's song "Why do I have black eyebrows". Solomiya Krushelnytska's first opera debut took place on April 15, 1893: she performed the part of Leonora in the opera "Favorite" by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti on the stage of the Lviv City Theater Skarbka. Then her partners were the famous Rudolf Bernhardt and Julian Jerome. Her performances in the role of Sanctuary in P. Mascagni's "Village Honor" were also very successful. In 1893 Krushelnytska graduated from the Lviv Conservatory. Solomiya Krushelnytska followed her 1893 professional debut with additional performances at the Lviv Opera. On the advice of Gemma Bellincioni, who witnessed Solomiya's talents in Lviv that summer, the young Krushelnytksa would travel to Italy in the fall of 1893 to pursue further vocal studies. After her father took out a loan for her travels, Solomiya arrived in Milan where she would study under Fausta Crespi,  while living with Bellincioni's mother. It was under Crespi's tutelage that Solomiya transitioned from her previous training as a mezzo-soprano to a lyric-dramatic soprano. For the following 3 years, she would divide her time between Milan and Lviv, returning regularly for engagements with the Lviv Opera in order to pay for her ongoing studies in Italy. Solomiya would go on to perform in Odessa (1896–1897), Warsaw (1898–1902),  St Petersburg (1901–1902), the Paris Grand Opera (1902), Naples (1903–4), Cairo and Alexandria (1904), and Rome (1904–5).  In 1904, she famously became a savior of Puccini's Madama Butterfly. The opera had been booed by the audience at its premiere in Milan's La Scala, but three months later in Brescia, a revised version of the work, with Krushelnytska singing the leading role, was a major success. Her repertoire totaled 63 parts. In the history of music, Krushelnytska is known as an active promoter of the works of her contemporaries, and of Richard Wagner. In 1902 she starred in a successful production of Lohengrin in Paris. In 1906 she appeared to acclaim at Milan's La Scala in Richard Strauss's Salome, conducted by Arturo Toscanini. She also performed in other theatres across Europe, Egypt, Algeria, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and others. Solomiya Krushelnytska died on November 16, 1952, and was subsequently buried at Lviv's Lychakiv Cemetery

The Dean of Evil could never have anticipated she’d be in this state right now, after all the clue was in her title. Evil. Yet right now she couldn’t look the furthest thing from evil even if she tried. In fact, one could say that the salty tear drops caressing her pale cheeks, the almost childish way she’d clutched on the blanket wrapped around herself as she tried to make herself look smaller and the intricate tangles of her fiery curls made her look quite pathetic actually. Weak she’d argue. But there’s nothing weak at falling to the curse of love sickness.
Larissa left for Nevermore 10 short hours ago, and Leonora was missing her lover terribly, so terribly that eating, sleeping, showering and drinking were all things that made her feel physically Ill. The pillows still smelt like her blonde lover, the blanket she was snuggled up in being a poor attempt to mimic the blondes arms, all meant leaving this bed was not happening. Perhaps if she stayed in bed Larissa would strut into the room like she had the previous weeks before. Droplets of water falling from her enchanting locks of hair, towel snuggly tied just above her milky white breasts that Leonora adored so much. The towel of course just kissed the tops of Larissa’s thighs due to her height, something Leo found herself missing. She was jealous of how the towel would be close to Larissa (instead of her) which of course would have had the blonde woman chuckling before joining Lesso on the bed.
Memories seemed to plague the red head, her phone holding photos and videos of their time together only seemed to make her crave her girlfriend more. If one thing Leonora was sure of, it was that distance from Larissa Weems was something she hated entirely. Watching the blonde leave as they both sobbed was now ingrained inside her mind, a constant reminder of much fun they’d had together, that had now ended. Of course both women knew it would end, school semesters were approaching and Nevermore wouldn’t run without it’s amazingly devoted principal weems, and of course it was Lesso’s job to help create a balance between good and evil this year. But now, three days before the semester is due to start, lesso can’t find it in her to care, so what do good wins again? If she has her Isa then that’s all that counts.
Arriving back at Nevermore was bittersweet for sure. On one hand the blonde was glad to be home but on the other she’d left her heart back at the school for evil. Now wandering the halls of Nevermore she felt numb. Alone. Numb. Lost. A shell of her former self before her holiday trip. Much like her lover, nothing felt right anymore, she found herself looking for Leo, to be waiting for the next bratty comment so she could swiftly put her sweet girl back in her place. But it never came, because she was alone.
Larissa had warned two close friends of hers she would be in need of assistance upon her arrival, Marilyn and Mortica Addams seemed to have forgotten that as they were no where to be seen. All staff had to be back at the grounds today to prep for the students arrival within the next 48 hours. So it hurt to feel so alone even though she knew people who were meant to care were around. What hurt Larissa most was to see both her friends happily chatting away in the halls while she could hardly keep herself upright due to the ache in her heart. If only Leonora was here, then she wouldn’t be alone at all. Perhaps that’s why Larissa made her way to her office and locked herself away from the world. Who wants to see love and joy when they’ve had there’s taken away by a long distance.
Texting and calling felt wrong now. How can something that had been a life line before, feel so empty and wrong now? It should’ve been like going back to normal but instead it felt new and well odd. Things didn’t change, Larissa still reminded her dove to eat, drink and to try not to kill anyone every day, just like she had every day since they took this step together. And sometimes Lesso would listen, but only sometimes. Yet both women could feel the ache the presence of their other half had left. This well and truly sucks.
Eventually, life got back into the swing of things, both women being overloaded with work meant there wasn’t much time to overthink the ache in their chests. But Larissa had noticed a few things, as busy as Wednesday Addams had her, she could never not notice her Doves needs. See Larissa often knew then before Leonora did. It had been weeks since the last bratty smart mouthed comment, weeks since she’d seen Leo let her guard down and slip out of the dean head space. So it would’ve been weeks of headaches and built up emotions that the red head was locking away from the world, herself, and her mommy. And that just wouldn’t do, so naturally the blonde found the needed solution.
Lesso could not sleep. She’d been trying for hours now. The problem? She wanted Larissa. Well mommy, but now wasn’t the time for those thoughts, no matter how much she craved her mommy’s touch or her ability to always know just what to do. Yet for hours all she could do is think and crave and battle this problem. A dull vibration caught her attention, immediately she knew just who caused it.
“Dove, why aren’t you sleeping? It’s much to late for my sweet girl to be up”
Damn it! How did she always know when lesso broke a rule. Immediately a quick smart response was sent on its way, and this continued back and forth.
“I don’t want to. And I’m not sweet”
“But you are my darling girl, and you need to sleep sweetheart, you promised to look after yourself until I can come home to do so”
“I don’t care anymore. You can’t make me”
“Oh but I can Dove, don’t be a brat and listen to mommy”
“Fuck you”
The bubbles popped up and disappeared a few times as the red head was sat worrying her bottom lip waiting for the response that never came, instead the shrill ringing sound filled the room instead. Fuck. Taking a quick breath she hit answer.
“Care to repeat that dove?” She growled out causing the red head ti shake her head negative before remembering that Larissa couldn’t see her. “Leonora, do not make me repeat myself” quickly followed her silence.
“No mommy, I- I didn’t” she stuttered now only realising her mistake of letting her temper flare.
“You didn’t what baby? You didn’t mean to be a brat? You didn’t mean to get my attention in the wrong way because you can’t use your big girl words? Or you didn’t mean to hurt mommy? Which one is it my darling?” By the tone she could tell her mommy wasn’t happy and that made the guilt start to bubble in the lower part of her stomach.
“Last one, I’m sorry” was whimpered into the phone as her eyes glassed over with a sheen of unshed tears. Truly, she didn’t want to hurt her lover’s feelings but the emotions had built insanely high and craved release in the way only she could provide.
“Oh so you aren’t sorry for being a bratty dove? Hmm? That just won’t do now will it?” The sentence itself looking like a question but deep down the redhead knew the implied meaning just by the sheer tone of voice.
“No mommy, I’m sorry I’ll try to be good! Just miss you really bad” Leonora whimpered into the phone, not sure what she wanted other than to go back and be Larissa’s good dove. The tell tell beeps of the phone hanging up was enough to shock Leonora back to reality. She’d really been hung up on…
But she wasn’t alone with her thoughts for long, pictures and messages filled her phone, her mommy show casing everything Leonora could have had. Every picture and every dirty text message detailed how Larissa wanted to play with her slutty toy but was a solid reminder of just what she’d lost.
“Mommy! Please I’m sorry I’ll be good I’m sorry mommy” the redhead begged after attempting to call her girlfriend back only to be ignored, she knew just what Larissa Weems would be doing, her own private quarters had mirrors everywhere, the angles were perfect and lesso knew how heavenly her whines and mewls of pure pleasure sounded like, this wasn’t fair at all.
An hour. 60 whole minutes. That’s how long the torture of begging and being ignored or denied went on. It was safe to say lesso was going insane until Larissa finally answered her call, out of breath with her signature teasing tone that was just for Leonora. “Poor baby, did you need mommy? Poor little whore of mine wanted mommy to let her see hmm?”
Tears started to fall as her need to be corrected, loved and comforted back to one piece again rose to the fore front of her mind. “I’m sorry mommy. Please help me I’m sorry I needed that, I’ll be good now I promise let me be good for you.” With a quick click of the button the phone call became a video call. Larissa being as naked as the day she was born, a beautiful flush covering her pale body due to her previous activity. “Be a doll for me then and get mommy’s favourite toys for you to use on yourself” she instructed as lesso scrambled off the bed to do so, “but crawl pup! Show me what a pretty bitch you can be for me.”
Stings of humiliation was soon covered by pride as Larissa groaned at the sight of the strong put together woman on her knees because Larissa demanded it, she’d made her lover feel good and that never failed to encourage the dean. Perhaps that’s how she ended up with the special dildo that Larissa had gifted her for Christmas magically thrusting in and out of her needy cunt. Her magical ability being used to mark up her pretty thighs at Larissa’s demand. All while Larissa murmured the most filthy words possible to her bratty girl.
“Mommy! Hurts! Please wanna cum” the poor woman squeezed while trying to squirm away from the magical toy. She knew the rules and would do near enough anything to follow them. Having her mommy’s attention now, she most definitely didn’t want to lose that. “Poor baby, is mommy hurting you?” The faux concern drew a whimper from Lesso, “no I can’t be, look at how you’re soaking my thick dick with your slutty juices sweet girl, look at your pretty cunt for me.” On instinct both pairs of eyes focused on Leonora’s sex soaked core.
“Good pup for me aren’t you dove? My good girl? Such a perfect slut for me. Mine. You’re mine Leonora, say it” Larissa almost growled causing the dean to fall into submission. “Yes mommy’s. I’m mommy’s please please please!” By now all she knew was Larissa. This sweet torture finally breaking down her walls, all the heartache, the fear, the sadness and the loneliness was gone and replaced with Larissa. This, them making each other feel good, would always be right. “That’s all my sweet baby needed hm? You needed mommy to break you down huh? My good little pup, let go darling, cum for me my love” was all the permission she needed as her inner walls milked the faux cock for all it was worth and Larissa’s praised flew around her brain, creating the beauty of sub space.
Sub space was one of Leonora’s favourite headspace’s for sure, she was safe, content, loved and well fucked. Normally Larissa would be met with a dopey smirk and soft lingering touches as her girlfriend cling to her body. Not having this safety blanket was what caused the red head to start sobbing as she came back to reality. “Oh my darling girl, what’s wrong Leo? What can I do sweet girl? What can mommy do?” Larissa coed down the phone hoping to somehow help. Truly seeing Leonora so upset was devastating. “Want you” was gasped out as the tears now consumed her body and breathing was a struggle, “please” she whimpered so quietly, sounding absolutely heartbroken. “I know sweet girl, I’ll be back soon my love, you must talk to me darling, don’t keep this all bottled up inside. I miss you terribly too Leo. Much more than I have missed anyone before. I love you my sweet little dove.”
They say time heals all wounds, but this time all time did was provide a simple bandaid, simply holding the hearts together until they could be back in one piece. A temporary solution to a temporary problem. Naturally this situation occurred more than a few times while both women had to be apart, and it soon became more normal but odd at the same time. But every day was that one day closer to being able to hold each other again. To be home.

Press Release:
The skeleton was as happy as a madman whose straitjacket had been taken off. He felt liberated at being able to walk without flesh. The mosquitoes didn’t bite him anymore. He didn’t have to have his hair cut. He was neither hungry nor thirsty, hot nor cold. He was far from the lizard of love.
–Leonora Carrington, The Seventh Horse and Other Tales
As we reopen, Petzel Gallery is pleased to present A Love Letter to a Nightmare, a summer group exhibition that will be on view from July 15 – August 14 at the gallery’s Chelsea location. The exhibition’s premise is to take into consideration contemporary visual modes and expressions that trace back to historical movements such as Surrealism, Symbolism and Pop, through the lens of our current uncertain existence. Call it vamped Surrealism and Symbolism. The show ponders how the aesthetic of modern surrealism/symbolism has been dressed up and added upon, sexualized, feminized, and reworked in the 21st Century. How does the state of a bound subconscious affect these artworks? This has become especially prevalent while the world shelters from the coronavirus pandemic and confronts centuries of inequity in a moment of historic unrest and great potential for revolutionary change. Beneath our daily struggle for normalcy bubbles a shared unconscious anxiety, fear, loneliness, despair, and trepidation of the future. In these times, the fabric of society is now both flattened into two dimensions as we socialize through screens – from our Zoom meetings, family check-ins, and “cocktails with friends,” to the daily State and Federal news conferences, Instagram stories, and Tik Tok videos – and yet simultaneously burst open in valiant action both intellectual and physical as we gather, protest, and organize in efforts to reimagine and rebuild a more just world. Our dreams have become more “vivid” and “menacing,” according to The New York Times, and, of course, in fantasy there is room for radical possibility. How might these practices of contemporary Surrealism, Symbolism and Pop, be read and implemented in reaction to the current upheaval? As one of the artists offered – how might these daydreams and nightmares be used as “forms of resistance, or in addressing trauma, enfranchising the masses, and envisioning necessary escape?” The exhibition asks how does each artist’s subjective work – painting, sculpture, installation, and video – explain a world riddled with multiple “objective” truths?
A Love Letter to a Nightmare includes work by Danica Barboza, Genesis Belanger, Meriem Bennani, Sascha Braunig, Florencia Escudero, Hadi Fallahpisheh, Anna Glantz, Ivy Haldeman, Christina Quarles, Emily Mae Smith, and Greg Parma Smith.
Danica Barboza (b. 1988, New York) is a multimedia artist who elaborates a rich personal mythology through the mediums of sculpture, drawing, writing and assemblage. Her work portrays a mystical marriage between her and a mythologized lover, and in her sculptures’ shifting identities she explores questions around celebrity, psychology, and desire. She had her first institutional solo exhibition at Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin, Germany in 2020, and recent exhibitions with Lomex (New York) and Galerie Buchholz (Cologne).
Genesis Belanger (b. 1978, USA) Belanger’s work is characterized by the treatment of objects as surrogates for the body. Sculpted in porcelain and stoneware, metal work and upholstery and tinted in fondant hues, everyday objects take on human features, made uncomfortably familiar as they begin to resemble us. Belanger’s sculptures address themes such as feminism and the objectification of the female body, the psychology of consumerism and power structures in modern history. Belanger has upcoming museum solo shows at Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, in Ridgefield, Connecticut (September 2020) and the Consortium Museum in Dijon, France (April 2021).
Meriem Bennani (b. 1988 in Rabat, Morocco) lives and works in Brooklyn, USA. She received her BFA from Cooper Union, New York in 2012, and her MFA from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Paris in 2011. Solo exhibitions of her work have been held at C L E A R I N G Brooklyn; The Kitchen, New York; Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris; Art Dubai; MoMA PS1, New York; and SIGNAL, Brooklyn. Her work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including Whitney Biennial, New York; Biennale de l’Image en Mouvement, Geneva / Turin; Public Art Fund, New York; Shanghai Biennale; Jewish Museum,New York; Saatchi Gallery, London; MANA Contemporary, New Jersey; and Palais de Tokyo, Paris. Her exhibition, Party on the CAPS, is currently on view at the Julia Stoschek Collection, Berlin. Later in 2020, she will have a public commission at LAX airport. Meriem Bennani’s work is part of the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris; Fondation Cartier, Paris; Kadist Foundation, Paris; and FRAC Ile-de-France, Paris.
Sascha Braunig (b. 1983, Qualicum Beach, BC) is a painter who creates nontraditional portraits and still lifes. Even as Braunig reduces bodies to witch-like cut-outs, barbed skeletons, or wireforms lit with an internal neon glow, she finds a possibility for expressing freedom and tensile strength through these humanoid scaffolds. In 2016 Braunig had a solo exhibition at MoMA PS1, and her work was featured in the 2015 New Museum Triennial. She holds a BFA from The Cooper Union and an MFA in painting from Yale University. Braunig was awarded a studio residency from the Sharpe-Walentas Studio Program in 2016–2017, a Pollock-Krasner Foundation award in 2016, and a Macdowell Colony Fellowship in 2013.
Florencia Escudero (b. 1987, Singapore) is a multimedia artist recognized for her soft sculptures that use fabric printed with digitally rendered images. Her work aims to flip the narrative of the objectification of the female body. Escudero received her MFA from the Yale University School of Art and her BFA from the School of Visual Arts. Her works have been shown at the Instituto Cervantes, New York and the Pratt Institute, New York.
Hadi Fallahpisheh (b. 1987, Tehran) is a multimedia artist that specializes in photography, performance and installation. Often commenting on conditions of displacement, his work questions the ability of representation to convey truths, revealing the gaps between public perception and personal experience. Fallahpisheh received the Artadia Award in 2019, and his work was included in 2020 in the group exhibition In Practice: Total Disbelief at the Sculpture Center.
Anna Glantz (b. 1989, Concord, MA) creates paintings that consider the poetic connections between personal, invented, and historical imagery set within psychological landscapes. She received a BA in Art and Linguistics from the University of California, Los Angeles and an MFA in Visual Art from Columbia University. In 2020 she will have her first UK solo exhibition at The Approach in London.
Ivy Haldeman (b. 1985, Aurora, CO; lives and works in New York) is recognized for her nuanced, and disarmingly languorous, renderings of anthropomorphized sausages swathed in pillowy buns, pantomime hand gestures, slapstick unions of heels and banana peels, and women’s suits depleted of bodies – illuminating relations between consumerism and desire while both allegorizing and eroticizing slippages among the unequal distributions of finance and femininity. Her work has been the subject of recent solo exhibitions at Downs & Ross, New York, and Capsule, Shanghai. The artist received her BFA from the Cooper Union in 2008.
Christina Quarles (b. 1985, Chicago, IL) paints abstracted figures that are subject to identity politics. Her gestural, distorted human forms explore the ways in which race, gender, and sexuality intersect to form complex identities. She will have a solo exhibition at Museum ofContemporary Art, Chicago in 2021, and her work was included in the group exhibitions Made in LA at the Hammer Museum; Fictions at the Studio Museum in Harlem; and Trigger: Gender as a Tool and a Weapon at the New Museum.
Emily Mae Smith (b. 1979, Austin, TX) is an artist whose subject matter plows the Surrealist genre with Feminist psychology. She layers her paintings with popular and underrepresented Art Historical references, often marrying them with pop culture motifs. Smith has had solo exhibitions at Le Consortium, Dijon and the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, Hartford, Connecticut.
Greg Parma Smith (b. 1983, Cambridge, MA) creates visionary paintings that combine mystical symbology with a personal and experimental painterly language that draws upon and synthesizes languages from the Renaissance, medieval illustration, as well as modernisms from Miro to Jasper Johns. Martha Schwendener explained: “His ultimate tactic seems to be to show how painting can accommodate multiple ideas and worldviews, rather than what art’s gatekeepers allow at a given moment.” Smith’s work was presented in a solo exhibition at Musée d’art moderne et contemporain, Genève in 2017 and was included in a two-person exhibition at the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis in 2010.
