I have an hc that Korekiyo impulsively cuts her hair almost entirely off after she exorcizes her sister's spirit out of her body, but it looks really bad which kind of makes her already fragile mental state worse and Mukuro who's kinda going through the same thing by distancing herself from Junko to pursue her dream of being a hairdresser offers to fix Korekiyo's hair and it miraculously it ends up looking really good. They kinda bond over it and kinda become like true sisters and it helps them a lot.

some korekiyo backstory headcanons / info below the cut:

massive tws for child abuse, neglect, sexual abuse, inc*st, etc. 

due to a pattern of abuse korekiyo suffered at the hands of his sister and other family members, they developed dissociative identity disorder, which led to their sister taking on a role as a persecutory/interject alter. they had a few other alters as well, but they’ve since been working through therapy to integrate these alters.

korekiyo’s mother died during childbirth, and their sister was 11 at the time of their birth.

their father was often travelling, therefore leaving them home alone with each other when miyadera turned 13, believing they were capable of taking care of themselves.

they were homeschooled due to the frequent travels of their family, and the fear that with low immune systems running in the family, the children would get sick.

miyadera falls ill with the same ailment of their mother when korekiyo turns 5, and she turns 16. age 6 and 17 respectively is where a lot of the grooming begins, as miyadera tries to shape them into exactly what she wants them to be (specifically what she’s always wanted as a friend and partner).

korekiyo’s father doesn’t return from one of his trips when the siblings are 8 and 19 respectively. miyadera, despite her illness, takes on the role of head of the household and expects 8 year old korekiyo to take care of her.

miyadera’s abuse began with emotional abuse, often calling korekiyo useless, annoying, etc. when they weren’t behaving in a way that pleased her, and then moving on to physical and then sexual abuse when korekiyo turned 12-13.

they went to therapy at age 16, a year after their sister died (when she was 26). they realized to be able to successfully go about their studies, they needed more than just themselves. it took a while to get the help they needed, but they eventually went and it has helped immensely.

this being said, their trauma isn’t something that heals fast. obviously, they had to relearn a lot about love and relationships, and who they truly are. despite this being incredibly hard, they work very diligently to succeed.

hypersexuality is a coping mechanism for them, note that it is not inherently positive or negative, it simply is the way they went about dealing with their se/xual abuse. they often feel inclined to start physical relationships and end up feeling very guilty after.

Fluffy shinsai headcanons + mundane Kiyo headcanons!!!

Kiyo does yoga every morning. Shuichi didn’t want to join them at first because it seemed ridiculous but after awhile he did. He meditates and does yoga with Kiyo in the mornings. It helps his anxiety.

Kiyo bring their delightful autistic self collects practically anything and everything- often older items that hold meaning to them. Their home has many areas dedicated to show off these “relics of peoples lives” as Kiyo calls them.

Kiyo refuses that they or Shuichi buy any furniture or anything new. Kiyo enjoys the memories that may come with objects and has a difficult time with overly clean and new items. It reminds them of the hospital.

Shuichi is a very anxious person. Not in the way that he is shy or cute anxious but that he feels mistrust and fear surrounding his environment and those he loves due to his anxiety- especially as a trans man. Kiyo helps to soothe him, often just by holding his hand or distracting him.

Shuichi and Kiyo go on many dates- often quiet areas so they can both be at ease. Kiyo is affectionate when it’s just them.

Shuichi is very easily embarrassed by Kiyo’s forwardness and their romantic, poetic ramblings. Kiyo often writes him poems with odd gifts attached.

Kiyo has an extremely odd taste in food. They often drink cranberry juice or things with strong taste and enjoy many different dishes from many different cultures. They’re rather picky about texture- particularly with desserts.

Kiyo wears glasses for reading. They’re red and way too showy but they love them.

Kiyo has their own anxious moments. Unfortunately due to Kiyo’s past and mental health issues they often act out more than Shuichi does.

Kiyo has break downs which often result in them isolating. They shut Shuichi out completely and lock themselves in their room. They refuse to take care of themselves or do anything. Thankfully Shuichi has grown accustomed to these moments and very very gently coaxes Kiyo out.

Kiyo is very cat like in how they receive affection. The odd time Kiyo will request affection- in a sense- they will sit beside Shuichi. They will brush up against him lightly and stay close. At first this just confused him but now he immediately understands that Kiyo is like a cat asking for scritches.

Shuichi often plays with Kiyo’s hair. It’s a good way for the both of them to calm down and for Kiyo to let their guard down for a little while.

Kiyo has an extremely loud cry- when they were a child their banshee like screech could very quickly cause quite the stir. Kiyo only ever really screams if they need to or if they’re extremely upset- which is rare.

Kiyo walks very composed and elegantly though trips very easily. They’re not very physically strong and have a body type similar to a ballerina. They fall down quite easily and trip more often than they’d like to admit.

Kiyo likes mlp you cannot convince me otherwise. Their favourite pony is Zecora but they do also enjoy fluttershy and twilight.

Kiyo’s self stimulatory behaviour is usually not super obvious. It often looks like simply fiddling with their necklace. Though in upsetting situations they tend to hit themselves hard or rip at their hair.

When in an environment where they feel exceptionally comfortable they will happily shake their hands, hum, twirl their hair, and fiddle with their mask zipper or necklace.

His English voice does it for me. I was 6 months on testosterone before insurance decided to kill that, but my voice sounds incredibly similar to his to a point I can do a near-flawless impression!

May I offer you a related headcanon in turn? His top surgery scars are stylized to look like thorns I think. (Unrealistic it may be, but this is also the game where… well, it’s Danganronpa, nothing about it is realistic.)
