No idea why.
but parent and teacher day in Ran's school. Is her and Conan.
"I would say I am a Mom. Does that count?"
Teacher doesn't know what to say. If he says something wrong the rest of mothers in the room will be angry.
at this point I think Ran should fight for full custody in court

Kobayashi, about Conan and Ai: Aw, those two are so sweet–
Genta: Shhh! Shut your mouth!
Kobayashi: What, is it supposed to be some sort of secret?
Ayumi: Of course not! Everyone knows Conan-kun and Ai-chan are in love. Including Conan-kun and Ai-chan!
Mitsuhiko: They’re just too dumb to do anything about it.
Kobayashi: Oh, that sounds… very frustrating.
Genta: It is! That’s why we don’t talk about it!

Also, canon be damned. I now need awkward greenhorn policebox officer Shiratori interacting with student teacher Kobayashi. I need fumbling ranting Shiratori oversharing while not saying the important part. I want Shiratori inviting Kobayashi to a movie, only for Kobayashi to take the chance to watch something the kids at the school are raving about to see them at their level.
... also since thinking it would be 5-10 years before actual canon, Shinichi could still give his knowing and exasperated smirks with Ran thinking it's romantic.

By chapter 743 I'm just going... "Gosho Aoyama challenge where he makes a romance and the one who wins ISN'T their crush from when they were a first grader/6-7 years old"
Basically, by this point most of the romances are following a formula of, especially if they're adults, "as a kid I had a single meeting (or a series of meetings) with a girl, who I lost touch with, and now I'm trying to figure out who it is. Once I have, that person will still move or less be the person I liked as a child, and our feelings will be reciprocated. If it seems as though my first love has moved on, this is just a red herring and we will unfailingly find out the truth at the end of the case."
Like... in the Blooming Sakura case with Shiratori, he's warned by the criminal, a woman he'd at first thought was his first love (PURELY because of the cherry blossom patterned cup holder art!) that people change, and not to get his hopes up too high.
But this is undermined severely by how it's shown almost immediately after that Kobayashi Sumiko, the kids' class teacher, is that same person and she hasn't changed at all! Which instead makes the message into "it's only bad people who change" and/or "if you're a good person who likes the law, you'll definitely still be a good person, and your love will be true!"
Uh. Or something. :/
I think by this point it's Agasa, Shiratori, and Chiba who more or less follow that pattern.
I can't remember Yumi's arc well enough, I don't think that they were a case of "fated first love" - but I could be wrong?
Also there's nothing wrong with the trope on its own. It's just been used twice in a row here, with at least one other case! Just... put some variation in between, y'know? :")
I'm pretty sure this was one of the reasons I started to get frustrated back when. And then with a few other things, that was why I lost steam. This time, I want to see what happens after that point.
