I think it’s a real shame that re:com’s battle system is so decisive because the story is REALLY FUCKING GOOD.

It’s definitely the darkest kingdom hearts game, and it’s really intriguing.

The problem is that the first few hours are in the Disney worlds where the story is stagnant and the gameplay is boring. Once you get to twilight town the story really starts firing on all cylinders and the gameplay actually gets really enjoyable as you’ve settled into a deck that can quickly dispatch heartless/bosses (lethal frame my beloved). I genuinely really enjoyed the gameplay in castle oblivion in both Sora and Riku’s story enough to honest to god grind just because the gameplay was fun!

Basically if you are doing a kingdom hearts marathon and get to re:com, do what I did: play on beginner, skip EVERY SINGLE DISNEY WORLD CUTSCENE, and enjoy. Luckily in reverse rebirth it skips the Disney cutscenes for you LMAOO

THE FANTASY AND REALITY OF MEMORIES -A Brief Analysis of Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories

Memories are the stories of the Hearts. They are chains of our past that bind us both in protecting and in torment, for the past is never ideal nor should it be. And that Truth is shared between Sora and Riku's journeys throughout Castle Oblivion. In both their stories Sora and Riku are given the choice between their real memories and an ideal version of their memories. Sora can either have his original memories of Kairi or his Fairy tale Memories of Namine. He can return to his original life where he must continue to walk down the difficult road to reunion and endure the pain of separation or he can remain in Castle Oblivion and continue to live out the fantasy of being Prince Charming. If he stays all his problems will disappear, he can forget all about the endless strife between Light and darkness, the inevitability of saying goodbye to Donald and Goofy, the burden of saving others, and the pain of losing Kairi and Riku. And it's exactly because of that Sora Chooses to regain his old memories. The Conflict between Light and Darkness can never and should never be ignored for it is a conflict of the heart and to ignore it is to leave the heart to rot. The heart will only know peace when one is willing to confront this internal conflict that is born in our hearts. The Trinity Trio’s bond is by its very nature something that must end and that is exactly why it holds so much value. Sora Donald Goofy knows they won't be together forever so they embrace every moment they spend together, inheriting each other’s ideals and etching them into their very hearts so they will forever be connected. If Sora were to reject his inevitable goodbyes with Donald and Goofy then he would betray his very bonds with them. It is not a burden to save others but rather a gift that has not only made Sora into the hero he is now but has helped form every single one of Sora’s bonds. It is an inseparable part of Sora that makes him who he is. Most importantly however it is the very reason Sora was able to form a real connection with Namine beyond his false memories. Lastly, Sora could never abandon the pain of saying Goodbye to Kairi and Riku because the Pain is what makes a bond real. Everything ends, including the time we spend with our loved ones, to ignore that fact is to strip the connection of any value and reduce it to something shallow and fake. For Sora to be a true friend he must hold on to the pain he felt at the end of KH1 and embrace it forever more for only then will he be able to see them again. It would be a mistake however to think Sora chooses his old memories just for his own sake because he’s also doing this for Namine’s sake. Namine could never truly be happy remaining in Castle Oblivion with Sora. She would remain trapped by her guilt as she would endlessly bear witness to the cruel art she was forced to make by the Lord of the Castle in the form of the false memories she made for Sora. The only way Sora can actually free Namine and grant her true happiness is to let go of his ideal memories of her so that they can someday form a real genuine connection. Riku is given a similar choice where Namine can free him of all the darkness in his heart by erasing his memories of Ansem. In exchange for losing the memories of his past sins Riku can once again become the ideal “Chosen One”. But Riku refuses the offer because his old self, his “ideal” self, was never real in the first place. It was just a lie Riku told himself and others to hide his insecurities. A False persona that kept him an immature brat. That Riku was never fit to protect Sora and Kairi. So Riku turns down Namine's offer and instead chooses to face his demons in the form of Ansem so that he may become a true protector. By Accepting his mistakes instead of forgetting them he can truly Grow into a Man. For if Riku were to reject his own darkness in order to escape into his delusions then he would be no better than Ansem who rejected the Light in order to retreat into his own cynicism. Riku will carry the weight of his sins in his heart forever more so that he can walk do
