Edit: I DO HAVE CLIPS FROM BEFORE 4X8 WHY DIDNT I FIND THEM WHEN I WAS LOOKING LAST TIME?
Ryan runs away, it's that scene from the Ike Thornton episode
my liveblog notes:
*they all sit for a sec bc nobody knows how to proceed*
*Ryan grabs his gun & coat & whatever from his desk and walks off*
JE: Where're you going?
KR: I'm gonna do just like the Captain said, take the rest of the day off. *flips his keys in his hands*
(we all know he's going to make like beckett)
KB:
JE: *follows ryan*
This scene reminds me of when espt went with Ike & ryan followed him. It's just like that moment.
JE: Hey. Wherever you're going, I'm going with you.
KR: It's my fight.
JE: And you don't want me getting involved. It's my case, too. And you're my partner. (<3 <3 <3)
KR: I'm taking a run at Ben Lee.
JE: The Lees will have him locked down. I'm betting his old man won't let him go out in public alone.
KR: Then I guess we can't go in there looking like cops.
Oh
Oh my
I've seen images of this

MONTHLY MEDIA: October 2023
It's the scariest time of the year and I'm not talking about tax season. Here's how I spent the month of October!
……….FILM……….
Tumblr media
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) Knowing practically nothing about Elvira's schtick, I was floored by how...utterly constant the jokes come at you. I later read a review that described Elvira's character as "Groucho Marx with boobs" and I couldn't put it any better. If this didn't end with a rap I'd give it a perfect score.
Tumblr media
The Nice Guys (2016) So great. It really is a shame we didn't get more with this cast cause it's all just so great. The casual violence, the comedy, the setting, it's perfect. Between this and Barbie I'm now realizing just how perfect Ryan Gosling is at playing the beautiful idiot. "I think I'm invincible. It's the only thing that makes sense," is so good. Anyway go watch it if you haven't seen it.
Detroit Rock City (1999) Does a great job of setting the tone early and commits to it through to the very end. Fun and gross and problematic...just how KISS would want it.
……….TELEVISION……….
Tumblr media
Poker Face (Episode 1.07 to 1.08) Love that I can watch an episode or two and just kinda enjoy the ride. More episodic mysteries, please. And with Detroit Rock City, this makes October a real Natasha Lyonne month.
Love is Blind (Episode 5.01 to 5.11) Wild to discover an entire proposal/wedding got axed from the show and I'm constantly reminded that anyone who goes on a reality tv show will inevitably disappoint you.
……….YOUTUBE……….
Tumblr media
Pop Science And The Limitations Of Infotainment by Coffee Break Really interesting breakdown of the dangers that go along with turning science into something more digestible and engaging. Well worth the watch. VIDEO
This is Financial Advice by Folding Ideas Yes I did watch a 2.5 hour dive into meme stocks. And I'd do it again in a heartbeat. VIDEO
Tumblr media
yay, modern filmmaking... by CinemaStix and The Pirates Trilogy is Pure Bliss by Just Write Clearly I enjoy watching video essays about film and these two really stood out. Both channels tend to lean towards celebrating film and media but Cinemastix's...gentle deconstruction of why the faster pace of editing in modern films can be a disservice to the artform really left an impression with me. And I'm still a big fan of the original Pirates trilogy. VIDEO (Modern Filmmaking) VIDEO (Pirates)
……….READING……….
Tumblr media
The Tombs of Atuan by Ursula K. Le Guin (Complete) I love a good beefy novel but then you read something like this: something so lean and yet so rich, and you start to wonder why authors need hundreds of pages to tell a story. A Wizard of Earthsea didn't click with me when I first read it but I really should go back to it (as well as continue the Earthsea Cycle).
Take Ivy by Shosuke Ishizu, Teruyoshi Hayashida, and Toshiyuki Kurosu (Complete) Really great style-inspiration after listening to the podcast series dedicated to it.
Tumblr media
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The IDW Collection Vol. 11 by Kevin Eastman, Tom Waltz, Damian Couceiro, and other talented illustrators and letterers (Complete) Went back to the TMNT comic after seeing Mutant Mayhem and this was such a great return to form! One of the strongest collection of stories I can remember in a while. Even the human-centric stuff (which tends to fall flat for me in this series) was interesting and just enough to work. Really great stuff.
Ultimate Spider-Man Volume 10 (HC) by Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, and many others (Complete) I admit I've always prefered Immonen's work to Bagley's so I'm excited to finally get into his run in this reread. The Ultimate Goblins never worked for me but this volume has a really great second arc that highlights the best of Spider-Man (blending highschool drama with superhero drama).
……….AUDIO……….
Tumblr media
Destroyer by Kiss (1976) You know I never really got into KISS and I have no idea why. I love theatrics, I love rock opera, I love a gimmick. This has all of that in spades. Needless to say I'm now a big fan.
……….GAMING……….
Tumblr media
Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting (Andrews McMeel Publishing) Both of my groups are in Oz this month (it is Oztober, afterall). One crew is currently sorting out drama in Munchkin District and the other is still navigating the aftermath of some magically-caused domestic terrorism.
And that’s it. See you in November!

JUNG SHADOW
We caught up with Kevin (Ex-Destroy Clocks vocalist/guitarist) to discuss his new solo electropunk project, Jung Shadow (JS). Read on about the inspiration behind the name, huge influences, and the ebbs and flows of the Ottawa music scene (Photo: 1upcloud photography).

Latest Release: Currently Recording debut LP
Upcoming Shows: Stay tuned!
SA: How did this project come to be? JS :When my last band came to an end back in March and I didn’t know if I wanted to start another band or sell my gear and give up on making music altogether. I was pretty upset, angry and depressed about how it all went down and I really didn’t want to start all over again. While I was trying to decide what I wanted to do, I was reading about Carl Jung and his concept of Self and Shadow where basically the Self is what you present to the world and the Shadow is all the negative traits you try and hide. That kind of inspired me to use this project as an outlet to lean into all the negative stuff I was feeling and use it as a sort of catharsis. Any time I start a new project, I like to incorporate something new I haven’t done before. I had always been interested in electronic and industrial music so I figured now was a good time to buy a drum machine, trade a couple guitars for synths and it kind of just took off from there. I recorded and put out  2 singles online back in May and started booking gigs by June.
SA: Who are your biggest influences, musically or otherwise? JS: I could go on forever with this question but like I mentioned earlier, I took my name from a Carl Jung theory that inspired me with the direction of this project, plus I kind of like how it sounds like a Soundcloud rapper. Musically there are a few people that really inspired this solo venture. Justin Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu, JK Flesh) would be a main influence on me. His ability to make layered heavy electronic fused noise was a huge jumping off point and got me into exploring some other stuff like Whtiehouse or Autechre. Ryan Patterson from Fotocrime would be another one. He came from playing in a punk band called Coliseum who I really admired. When they broke up and he started a solo drum machine goth band and that’s really where I got the inspiration to do it all myself. My favourite guitar player is Greg Ginn from Black Flag, and he also did a solo drum machine thing after they split. Seeing Youth Code a few years ago also made me realize how full and heavy your live show could still be without a more traditional guitar/drum combo. NIN was probably the first band I really got into in grade 6 so all those things made me move towards the idea of a one person project this time around.
SA: Thus far in this project, what has been your biggest success? JS: Opening for Big Business was pretty cool. I was about 3 months into doing this and got to open for a band I really love. One of the members approached me after my set and told me how much he loved a new song I played for the first time that night. It was a great reassurance that I was on the right track.
SA: On the other hand, what is the biggest challenge you've faced, and how have you dealt with it? JS: The hardest thing is finishing songs. Having no input from anyone else, if I get stuck figuring out where something should go, or how it should sound, it’s really easy to spiral out and spend 2 weeks playing with how much reverb I want to put on the kick drum or which snare sound I want to use. I’m trying to take a more Guided By Voices inspired approach where if I can’t think of anything good enough for a second verse, fuck it, the song is a single verse and a chorus and is a minute and twenty seconds. Record it and move on.
SA: How do you approach the songwriting process? JS: I’ve stepped out of my comfort zone a little with these songs. I’ve had to learn to program drums, use synths and sequencers which is all new to me, but it’s cool because it’s almost a puzzle. You might know what kind of sound you want for the drums or bass line and you have to find a way to make it with the gear you have, then find a way to be able to play it all live using loopers and sequencers. I still do the whole heavy guitar and yelling over most songs so that’s still right in my wheelhouse but I’m trying to develop a solid set of songs that don’t use a guitar, so that’s new to me and making me rethink how I write. The way electronic music is built up and written is so different than something like punk or metal so I’m trying to blend some of those elements and techniques.
SA: What are your thoughts on the Ottawa music scene? JS: I’ve been gigging pretty regularly in Ottawa for about 17 years now in various bands, and saying that made me feel old, but I’ve watched the scene swell and dwindle over the years but we are definitely in a big swell right now. We have so many amazing bands, really cool places to play and a variety of genres that are thriving here.
SA: If you had to choose, what is your favourite song you’ve written thus far and why? JS: I’ve got this new song called “Year of the Worm” that I’m pretty excited to get recorded but as for songs I’m actually finished and performing, I have one called “Ashes” that I’m really happy with. It’s got these ebbing hypnotic downtempo layers in the background, and a really cool guitar sound that doesn’t sound like a guitar at all and a really cool dance break. Probably the most pop-centric song I’ve written but it’s still really dark sounding.
SA: If you HAD to describe three artists similar to your sound for the uninitiated, which would you choose? JS: Besides the influences I named earlier, I’d say mix of End Transmission/Bright Flashes era Snapcase, Big Black and something like Bauhaus or Cold Cave.
SA: What comes next for you in 2019? All the best heading into 2020! JS: Unless something really cool comes my way, I'm taking some time off to finish recording this record and also a few songs for a split release I have in the works. Both those should be out early-mid 2020.

So apparently either entire or at least parts of the Amelia centric are filmed in NY. So far apparently Leo is in it & highly likely Owen too. Kevin was in NY that first weekend they were filming Amelia centric so hopefully he is in the episode. So, it seems that Amelia centric has to do with her family. I would live to see her mom!! But that might be hard as the actress that plays her is quite known and expensive.
I don’t think Amelia will be going to NY during the centric episode, but we will have to wait and see. If she does end up going anywhere, I hope she goes to L.A because to me that is a much better place for her to experience the deep healing she needs by visiting Christopher and Ryan’s graves, and she could get joy by visiting her old friends at Oceanside Wellness. Ever since the Amelia centric was announced, I thought that the episode would be centered around her family and I hope it is. I don’t think we will see Amelia’s mother, but she will probably be mentioned at least once in the episode

These 'Mare Of Easttown' Reddit Theories About Erin's Baby Are Wild
Tumblr media
When Mare of Easttown first debuted, fans assumed it was a bit like True Detective without the title's baggage after three seasons. It starred an Oscar-winning actor in Kate Winslet as a small-town detective with a case that wasn't what it seemed on the surface. But Mare has thus far zagged where viewers expected it to zig, especially when it comes to how the case fits together. These Mare of Easttown Reddit theories are proof that the original suspects may not be the answers.
Warning: Spoilers for Mare of Easttown Episode 5 follow. Unlike The Undoing, which took the viewer's wariness of picking the most obvious suspect and used it against them, Mare of Easttown has been all about the most obvious answers, only to remove them just as viewers settle into certainty. Were you pretty sure Zabel was somehow involved? Too bad, he's dead. Did you think Dylan was an innocent pawn? Well, now he's breaking into her house and burning her journals.
But the most significant unraveling of the viewer's assumptions is that it's all connected. Time's not a flat circle here. Katie Bailey's disappearance has nothing to do with Erin, and vice versa. Moreover, if Katie and Missy's abductions have nothing to do with Erin, what's to say that Erin's baby drama and death are related?
If one assumed Erin's baby daddy isn't necessarily the killer, that changes the equation. Let's run down the suspects.
Deacon Mark
Tumblr media
Since the show started, Deacon Mark has been an obvious suspect, especially once viewers learned he was transferred to this parish to cover up a relationship with an underage girl. But Episode 5 proved he wasn’t a violent man, and the image of him killing Erin paled in the face of his tearful confession that he took her to the place where she died.
But here’s the thing: Just because Deacon Mark isn’t the murderer doesn’t mean he’s not the baby daddy. Everything about his story suggests he was once again emotionally involved with an underage girl, if not sexually. His guilt is obvious. Either he is the baby daddy, or he knows who is.
Billy Ross
Tumblr media
The other significant suspect who rose to the top of the pile this week: Billy Ross. Both he and his brother John have an alibi for the night of the murder; they were out partying with Frank before taking him home. But his intensely nervous reaction when it came up that Erin had lived with him for months might as well have been a confession. Consider how he tried to play it off that it was like “a few days,” only to have Lori innocently protest that it was a few months — and right around the time she got pregnant. That was a field of red flags.
Moreover, and this is something fans have noticed since the early days of the show: DJ is a redhead. Erin and her father are not, Dylan’s not, Mark’s not... But Billy is.
Father Dan Hastings
Tumblr media
One of the things fans can’t shake is the idea that whoever turns out to be the killer and/or baby daddy is going to be someone that hurts Mare. Hence why fans were so sure it was Frank when Jess raised the issue over his diaper deliveries. Mare having to arrest her ex-husband would be a new trauma she’s not ready for.
But what if it’s someone even closer than that? What if it’s her cousin, Father Dan? Fans noted that he didn’t run to the police with Deacon Mark’s confession. In fact, he seemed to be thinking real fast as the weeping Deacon sobbed at him. Is he afraid Erin told Mark the truth?
John Ross
Tumblr media
This week, Billy emerged as the new and shiny suspect of the moment. But as noted earlier, the show’s been doing that since the first episode, only to prove otherwise the following week. What if Billy’s anxiety about leaving that Rolling Rock untouched wasn’t for himself but his brother?
The latest episode made it painfully clear that Ryan knows something about his father he’s not supposed to talk about. And Lynn seemed to put it together that John was cheating, though with who, she didn’t say. What if Lynn is guessing wrong? What if John is the one who was molesting Erin the whole time she was staying at Billy’s? That would also explain the red hair — a recessive trait. It might also explain the kid’s name. Viewers assume the “D” in DJ is faux-daddy Dylan, but what’s the J for? Could it be for real-father John?
How would Lori respond if Mare had to tell her John was the father of Erin’s baby?
Kevin Sheehan
Tumblr media
But perhaps the most prominent “Mare-centric” answer would be the one person who could father Erin’s baby but then not be there to kill her: Kevin.
Fans have been obsessed with the idea of Siobhan somehow being involved. After all, she was one of the last to see Erin alive. The big issue is that Siobhan can’t be the father of Erin’s child, so if the killer and baby daddy are the same people, that automatically ruled her out.
But Kevin could have been. Fans know he committed suicide, though not why. Could he have found out he had a second baby on the way, this time with an underaged girl? Could Siobhan then be the killer, keeping her brother’s name untarnished?
Mare of Easttown continues on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET on HBO.

ET on HBO.

So what publications will be made for Superman's 80th Anniversary, besides Action Comics 1000? I couldn't find a comprehensive summary online, but I imagine you know.
The post-#1000 (and Action Comics 80th Anniversary hardcover) stuff that we know of goes as follows:
* DC Nation #0 will release in early May for a single slim quarter and, along with a Justice League story by Scott Snyder/James Tynion IV/Joshua Williamson/Jorge Jimenez (which he’ll be a part of) and a Batman story by Scott Snyder/Clay Mann, have a Superman story by Brian Bendis and Jose Luis Garcia Lopez. Leading into…
* Man of Steel, a 6-issue weekly book by Bendis with art by Ivan Reis, Doc Shaner, Ryan Sook, Kevin Maguire, Adam Hughes, and Jason Fabok, that will establish the new super-status quo (no reboot though). This leads into Bendis helming a new big-adventure Superman with Reis starting with a new #1, and him taking over Action Comics for #1001 with Patrick Gleason as a more street-level, Daily Planet-centric title.
* Action Comics Special and Superman Special, impromptu finales for the current Jurgens and Tomasi/Gleason runs as Bendis takes over, mainly notable because each will have a story by Mark Russel, author of Prez, Flintstones, and Snagglepuss Chronicles.
* Presumably, the idea is still that Frank Miller and John Romita Jr. will tell their story this year of Clark growing up in Smallville, whether as an OGN or mini and whether or not under its original, apparently maybe discarded title of Superman: Year One.
Past this year, we know Gene Yang is doing a comic for 2019, Superman Smashes the Klan. Also Kurt Busiek and Doc Shaner agreed on Twitter the other day they should do a big Superman project together someday, which was clearly just friendly banter between professionals (though it’s a nice/interesting sign given Busiek had previously said he was probably done for the time being with non-Astro City superhero comics after Batman: Creature of the Night) but which I will probably be thinking about for approximately the next forever or so. Mark Millar had originally planned on doing a Superman miniseries next year and Max Landis had wanted to do a follow-up to American Alien, but given the former announcing it’s off the table due to his Netflix deal and the latter being revealed as even more of a creep than previously expected, they’re no-goes. I’d imagine at least one more notable Superman project will be announced before the end of the year for the anniversary, but it remains slim pickings. However, things no longer actively decaying from lack of interest or ambition in his corner of the world is, sadly, more than enough of an upgrade for his big year given the last several he’s had.

Ryan sort-of-yells at boss, Becks closes door
my liveblog comments:
I mean yeah, keep the heat on you might get smth, but they might sue bc u r harrassing them. Ryan lower your voice when talking to your boss like that VG, calmly: Take the rest of the day off, Ryan. I've actually been thinking for a while that Ryan should not be on this case. *ryan stalks off real fast* VG, while he's out the door: You need to clear your head! (he does need to.) JE: *looks at her then also stalks out* *castle follows* KB: *uses two fingers to sassily close the door behind her*
Current notes: good on gates for de-escelating the situation by not raising her voice in response. Thanks esposito for saying it is not over at the end there. good scene.

WHO warns Out of oxygen as COVID cases set to top 10 million
Tumblr media
The world faces a shortage of oxygen concentrators as the number of worldwide cases of coronavirus infection nears the 10 million mark, the World Health Organization head said on Wednesday. "Many countries are now experiencing difficulties obtaining oxygen concentrators," WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told a news conference. "Demand is currently outstripping supply." The new coronavirus has hit 9.3 million people and killed more than 480,000 so far and is rising by about 1 million cases per week. This has pushed oxygen demand to 88,000 large cylinders per day, or 620,000 cubic metres of oxygen, Tedros said. The sudden rise has created a dearth of oxygen concentrators needed to support breathing of COVID-19 patients suffering from respiratory distress. The health agency has purchased 14,000 oxygen concentrators from manufacturers and plans to send them to 120 countries in coming weeks, Tedros said. A further 170,000 concentrators - valued at some $100 million - will be potentially available over the next six months. The head of the WHO emergencies programme, Dr Mike Ryan, meanwhile said the pandemic in many Latin American countries was still intense as deaths in the region surpassed 100,000 this week. Many countries had experienced 25-50% increases in cases in the past week, he said. "I would characterise the situation in the Americas in general as still evolving, not having reached its peak yet, and likely to result in sustained numbers of cases and continued deaths," he said. The United States has criticized WHO's handling of the pandemic, calling the agency "China-centric". President Donald Trump demanded an immediate review and reforms and has pledged to quit the Geneva-based body. European governments are also working with the United States on an overhaul plan. While Tedros has pledged accountability and a post-pandemic review, Ryan said on Wednesday the agency was holding internal talks over its actions including what it has learned about controlling the virus. Season 7:  What DO we know?
Speculation aside what exactly do we know for certain about the new season and it’s characters.
SET UP
After finishing high school Henry has discovered that he isn’t in any of the books found in the sorcerer’s mansion.  He has found other versions of he stories of his family from other realms and has decided that his story is not in Storybrooke.  He leaves town on a motorcycle with a magic bean but doesn’t have another to return.   He travels for some undetermined period of time hopping from place to place.  We have no idea how he gets gas for the motorcycle.  He crashes into Cinderella’s carriage and her horses run off.  We know that she is apparently not on her way to meet a prince.
Cinderella and company are from a realm of fairy tales like the one we knew in the first six seasons but with different versions of those stories.  Much like there are different versions of the stories in literature from different places.  We’ve been calling this place Enchanted Forest 2, or EF2.  These are not recasts or replacements for previous characters but different people played by different actors with the same name and baseline story.  We will however not meet other versions of our previous main cast.
Somehow they’ve been cursed to the Land without Magic again, this time an urban neighborhood in Seattle called Hyperion Heights.  Who cursed them there we don’t know.  Lady Tremaine is a developer trying to gentrify the neighborhood by pushing the fairy tale characters apart from their loved ones but there is a strong implication that she did not cast this curse.  This is supposed to be in contrast to Storybrooke where people were cursed to live next to their loved ones but not know it and not be able to leave there is a constant threat of people leaving Hyperion Heights and never finding their loved ones.  The city is also occupied by Land without Magic people and we will not always know who is a fairy tale character and who is not.
CHARACTERS
Some time has passed for her since Henry left but it’s not at all clear that as much time has passed in Storybrooke for the people who were left behind as has for Henry.  It’s been at least 5-7 years between 6.22 and 7.01 but we don’t know exactly what is going on in the timeline.
Regina:   She has come to help Henry in EF2 and hasn’t seen him for a long time.  We don’t know if he couldn’t get back to Storybrooke or not.  Henry has some explaining to do.  She’s a more mature woman having learned from her character’s journey.  In Hyperion Heights her name is Roni and she owns a bar.  She’s a jeans and rock band tshirts kind of woman who stands up to bullies and fights for the little guy.  Set up in opposition to Lady Tremaine.  She does not know who Henry is in HH and has given up on life but will be inspired by another character (probably Lucy).  Episode 6 is her centric though we know almost nothing about it.
Hook:  He also came to help Henry in EF2 and has been cursed to HH where he’s a police officer named Rogers.  We’re told he’s very by the book and a good cop but with a lot of temptations around him.  He may be promoted from uniform cop to detective as we haven’t seen him in uniform since Episode 1 and now appears to have a gold shield.  He has a prosthetic hand and is haunted by some sort of police case.  Episode 2 is his centric and is supposed to resolve Emma’s storyline.
Rumple:  He seems to have come to help Henry but not at the same time as Regina and Hook.  He’s a police detective named Weaver who has been described as “menacing” and with a finger in a lot of pies.  Episode 4 is his centric and Emilie de Ravin guests stars.  They filmed in Storybrooke for Gideon’s 1st birthday and then appear to leave town.
Henry:  Henry left Storybrooke on a magical motorcycle with a magic bean to find his story.  He has a traffic accident with Cinderella’s carriage and somehow calls for help from his family because his new family is in danger.  In HH he is a failed writer, having published a novel that told the stories of his family though he doesn’t know they were real.  The book didn’t sell well and he’s lost faith and become a Swift (fictional equivalent of Uber) driver.  He and Roni have an immediate connection though they can’t remember each other.  Jared guest stars as younger Henry in episodes 7.01 and 7.02.
Cinderella:  Is a fighter, handy with a sword, who has been cursed to HH as a single mother named Jacinda trying to clean up after other people’s messes (and her own).  She lives with Sabine (Tiana) and works for Mr. Cluck’s chicken until it burns down.  She later may have a food truck of some sort.  She also seems to be a community activist involved in saving a community garden from Victoria (Tremaine).  The garden may have magical qualities (a well only people who believe can see) and she may be aware of those by episode 3 (she interacts with the well).
Lucy:  Has taken over the heart of the truest believer and is trying to instill hope.  She does appear to know who everyone is.  She may have convinced Henry by episode 3.
Lady Tremaine:  “Very British” trying to make it to the top but with some sort of tragic and painful backstory.  She does not like Cinderella but it is not the relationship from the animated movie.  The details are fuzzy though.  She is in HH as a land developer named Victoria Belfrey.  She wears expensive suits, drives a land rover, owns a company named Belfrey Developments and a sky scraper called Belfrey Towers with her name in large letters on it.  She has a frought relationship with her daughter Drizella and there is a mutual lack of respect.  While we are probably supposed to assume she is behind the curse there are hints that she is not.  She is however trying to push all the Fairy Tale characters out of Hyperion Heights by gentrification making the neighborhood too expensive for them to live in.
Tiana:  A fighter from a royal family that has fallen on tough times.  Her story will not follow the Princess and the Frog movie plot.  There is no sign of Naveen and the only reference to Faciliar has been in passing by TV Guide and it may have been speculation on their part.  In HH she lives with Jacinda and is named Sabine.  Her centric is episode 5 and she appears to be about to leave town at some point during the episode (carrying large bags as she talks to Jacinda on the street).  We’re told she and Jacinda have a relationship like Red and Snow.  Her mother is played by Robin Givens, and will appear in episode 5 as Queen Eudora.
Drizella:  We know almost nothing about her other than that she and her mother do not have a good relationship, that she’s evil and may rival her mother in that evil.  Her name in Hyperion Heights is Ivy.
Alice:  An enigmatic character she may not be cursed and his heavily involved in Rumple’s storyline in some way.  Her name in HH is Tilly and she is dressed in grubby clothes and looks a bit like she might be a police informant or drug addict.
Emma:  Adam, Eddy, and Jen have all said that she is doing one episode to wrap up Emma’s storyline and that it is a curtain call.  We don’t know what will happen to her.  At some point she and Hook ended up in EF2 with adult Henry.
Belle:  Emilie is set to appear in episode 4.  We know very little about this episode other than that Rumple and Belle appear to leave Storybrooke before Henry after Gideon’s first birthday party.  Giles Matthey will appear as Gideon in that episode.
The Witch:  Played by Emma Booth, and recurring quite heavily she is some sort of villain we know nothing about.  The pictures Booth has posted suggest heavy makeup (and a wig cap).  She is not playing an Oz related character.
There aren’t that many other guest stars known.
Many people latched onto a tall man and a suit seen talking to Rumple and maybe Tiana in episodes 1 and 3 but IMDB lists him as “Suited Heavy” and he appears to be a minor character.  Perhaps some sort of thug.  That has not stopped fandom from deciding he is everything from Regina’s love interest to Naveen.
We don’t know much about Robin Given’s Queen Eudora other than that she is a noble woman who has fallen on tough times.
Kevin Ryan is playing “Prince Marius” in Tiana’s centric but we know nothing about him.
Julian Haig is guest starring in 7.06 but we don’t know anything about his character either.
Meegan Warner is guest starring in 7.07 as Rapunzel, magically trapped in a tower by an evil sorceress and wanting revenge once she’s freed.
EPISODES
7.01 Hyperion Heights:  An introduction story which shows us Henry leaving Storybrooke, meeting Cinderella, and establishes the characters in Hyperion Heights.  Henry’s car is towed at some point and Jacinda chases Henry down the street on a motorcycle.  Jared Gilmore guest stars playing Henry leaving home.
7.02 A Pirate’s Life:  At some point Emma and Hook end up in the EF2 and meet grown up Henry.  This episode supposedly resolves Emma’s storyline and is the only planned appearance for Jennifer Morrison.  Regina arrives in EF2 in this episode but it’s not likely that she and Emma have any scenes together.  Jared Gilmore guest stars playing Henry in a flashback before he left Storybrooke.
7.03 The Garden of Forking Paths:  This episode seems to revolve around the resistance in EF2 and Regina/Hook joining up with them while in HH Jacinda is trying to save a community garden.  There seems to be some sort of magic in the garden including a well that some people can see and others can’t.  Lucy may jump into the well/or a portal in the garden and Henry follows.  Roni and Lucy filmed a fair bit together in this episode and there was a scene with Henry at night in a cemetary but the details of which we don’t know.
7.04 Beauty:  Giles, Emily, and Colin have all song the praises of this episode as one of the best in the series.  It is a Rumple centric that involves his life with Belle after leaving Storybrooke and some sort of plot in HH involving Weaver and Alice.
7.05 Greenbacks:  A Tiana centric we know very little about the EF2 plot but there is a fire that burns down the Mr. Clucks, Sabine is in the police station at some point with Rogers, and at some point she’s trying to leave town carrying very large bags before Jacinda stops her.  There appears to be a significant Roni/Henry C plot.  Kevin Ryan and Robin Givens gest star.
7.06 Wake Up Call:  We know almost nothing about this episode other than that it’s a Regina centric.  Julian Haig guest stars.
7.07 Eloise Gardener:  Has just started filming.  Meegan Warner cast as Rapunzel trapped in a tower by an evil sorceress and out for payback once she is freed.  Speculation is that this is a Lady Tremaine centric.
7.08 Pretty in Blue:  Hasn’t started filming yet.

News: DNA Located Outside Chromosomes Associated To Brain Cancer Development
Tumblr media
Source: https://www.cancer.gov/rare-brain-spine-tumor/tumors/pnet By: Heather Buschman, PhD One of the ways a cancer-causing gene works up enough power to turn a normal cell into a cancer cell is by copying itself over and over, like a Xerox machine. Scientists have long noticed that when cancer-causing genes do that, they also scoop up some extra DNA into their copies. But it has remained unclear whether the additional DNA helps drive cancer or is just along for the ride. Using human glioblastoma brain tumor samples, researchers at University of California San Diego School of Medicine and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine have now determined that all of that extra DNA is critical for maintaining a cancer-causing gene’s activation, and ultimately supporting a cancer cell’s ability to survive. Comparing those findings to a public database of patient tumor genetics, they also discovered that even if two different tumor types are driven by the same cancer-causing gene, the extra DNA may differ. The study, published November 21, 2019 in Cell, could explain why drugs will often work for some cancer types but not others. “We’ve been targeting the cancer-causing gene for therapy, but it turns out we should also think about targeting the switches that are carried along with it,” said co-senior author Peter Scacheri, PhD, Gertrude Donnelly Hess Professor of Oncology at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and member of the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. When the human genome was first fully sequenced, many people were surprised to find it contained far fewer genes — segments of DNA that encode proteins — than expected. It turns out that the remainder of human DNA in the genome, the non-coding regions, play important roles in regulating and enhancing the protein-coding genes — turning them “on” and “off,” for example. In this study, the researchers focused on one example cancer-causing gene, EGFR, which is particularly active in glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, and other cancers. When copies of EGFR pile up in tumors, they tend to be in the form of circular DNA, separate from the chromosome. “In 2004, I was the lead on the first clinical trial to test a small molecule inhibitor of EGFR in glioblastoma,” said co-senior author Jeremy Rich, MD, professor of medicine at UC San Diego School of Medicine and director of neuro-oncology and director of the Brain Tumor Institute at UC San Diego Health. “But it didn’t work. And here we are 15 years later, still trying to understand why brain tumors don’t respond to inhibitors of what seems to be one of the most important genes to make this cancer grow.” The team took a closer look at the extra DNA surrounding EGFR circles in 9 of 44 different glioblastoma tumor samples donated by patients undergoing surgery. They discovered that the circles contained as many as 20 to 50 enhancers and other regulatory elements. Some of the regulatory elements had been adjacent to EGFR in the genome, but others were pulled in from other regions of the genome. To determine the role each regulatory element plays, the researchers silenced them one at a time. They concluded that nearly every single regulatory element contributed to tumor growth. “It looks like the cancer-causing gene grabs as many switches it can get its hands on ... co-opting their normal activity to maximize its own expression,” Scacheri said. First author Andrew Morton, a graduate student in Scacheri’s lab, then searched a public database of patient tumor genetic information — more than 4,500 records covering nine different cancer types. He found that the team’s observation was not limited to EGFR and glioblastoma. Enhancers were amplified alongside cancer-causing genes in many tumors, most notably the MYC gene in medulloblastoma and MYCN in neuroblastoma and Wilms tumors. “People thought that the high copy number alone explained the high activity levels of cancer-causing genes, but that’s because people weren’t really looking at the enhancers,” Morton said. “The field has been really gene-centric up to this point, and now we’re taking a broader view.” Next, the researchers want to know if the diversity in regulatory elements across cancer types could also be helping tumors evolve and resist chemotherapy. They also hope to find a class of therapeutic drugs that inhibit these regulatory elements, providing another way to put the brakes on cancer-causing genes. “This isn’t just a laboratory phenomenon, it’s information I need to better treat my patients,” said Rich, who is also a faculty member in the Sanford Consortium for Regenerative Medicine and Sanford Stem Cell Clinical Center at UC San Diego Health. Additional study co-authors include: Nergiz Dogan-Artun, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network; Zachary J. Faber, Cynthia F. Bartels, Kevin C. Allan, Case Western Reserve University; Graham MacLeod, Stephane Angers, University of Toronto; Megan S. Piazza, Shashirekha Shetty, University Hospitals, Cleveland; Stephen C. The 2019 ‘My Guys’ List
Everyone’s got their list. Everyone has their favorite sleepers and breakouts for the upcoming fantasy football season. Recently, I began listening to The Fantasy Footballers podcast and they released their ‘My Guys’ episode. Essentially, the trio gave to the public three different players they believe in and believe will take a leap as players and help you win your fantasy football leagues. That inspired me to create a list of my ‘my guys.’ Except my list does not only consist of three players; it is 24 deep. Draft season is here. Let me help you win your league (except if you play in the same league as me. Which, if that’s the case, there really isn’t anything to see here!).
QBs:
Carson Wentz PHI: Wentz was well on his way to an MVP caliber season and Top 5 fantasy QB finish before he tore his ACL against the Rams. He came back this previous season but took some time (as is customary for players the first season coming off a torn ACL) to get his feet and rhythm back as well as have his offensive line protect him the way they did his 2017 season. The offensive line is back healthy and stocked with the addition of first-round pick Andre Dillard out of Washington State, Carson Wentz is practicing and not rehabbing, and his group of weapons is absolutely loaded. DeSean Jackson (who routinely expands the fantasy ceilings of all of his non-Jameis Winston QBs), Jordan Howard, rookie 2nd round picks Miles Sanders and JJ Arcega-Whiteside join Zach Ertz, Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Dallas Goedert, Darren Sproles and (finally healthy) Mack Hollins. That’s... a lot. He’s my QB5 and he’s going as the QB9. I’m not the only guy who’s high on him this season. ESPN’s Louis Riddick, who is WAYYYYYY smarter than I am, has Wentz winning the MVP this season. He’s pretty darn good at predicting this type of stuff...
Cam Newton CAR: Despite dealing with a shoulder injury for much of the season (which is illuminated fully in Amazon’s ‘All or Nothing’ show), Cam Newton averaged 20.2 fantasy points per game, 8th among QBs. This Norv Turner offense and personnel around him (Christian McCaffrey, DJ Moore, Curtis Samuel, Greg Olsen, Ian Thomas) is geared around Newton getting the ball out of his hands quickly and closer to the line of scrimmage, which he will only be more familiar with now in his second year under the system. It worked: he set a career-high 67.9% completion percentage last season. His previous best was 61.7%. He got his throwing shoulder operated on this offseason (and looks more than fine now, by the way). If you’re worried about his rushing going away, he got that same shoulder operated on before the 2017 season. He ran for a career-best 754 yards on 139 carries for 6TDs. His rushing shouldn’t be drastically diminished; ESPN’s Mike Clay has him projected for 105 carries. If the rushing isn’t going away, he should smash his ADP on ESPN as QB8. He’s my QB6.
Jared Goff LAR: On a per-game basis in games where Cooper Kupp played, Goff would’ve finished as QB3. If you just exclude last year’s stinker against the Bears, Goff would’ve finished as tied for QB4 with Deshaun Watson and, oddly enough, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Kupp is back. Sean McVay is still calling plays for the Rams despite the constant turnover around the Rams’ coaching staff trying to find the next McVay. Heck, Goff could even possibly throw for more touchdowns if they want to limit Todd Gurley’s production around the goal line. Goff’s ADP on ESPN is QB15 and QB12 on Sleeper. He is my QB7.
Lamar Jackson BAL and Josh Allen BUF: The rationale here for these two are very similar: they are run-centric quarterbacks whose teams upgraded their receiver core for them. Baltimore overhauled theirs through the draft, adding Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown and Miles Boykin, while Buffalo added veterans John Brown and Cole Beasley. While neither are great throwers just yet, their rushing elevates their floors and ceilings on a weekly basis. Since Lamar Jackson snatched the starting gig from Joe Flacco’s corpse, he averaged 18.6 fantasy points per game, placing him 13th among QBs. He never dipped below 15.9 points, though only exceeded the 20 point plateau just twice. In the 10 games Josh Allen started and finished as a rookie, he averaged 19.71 fantasy points per game, which would’ve been 9th among all QBs. After his Week 12 bye? He was QB1. Though it’d be fair to suggest neither two will run as much as they did as rookies, it’d be foolish to suggest that aspect of their games will be ditched altogether and that they should see a boost as passers. If you ditch the position (as you should), you could do a lot worse than either of these two as your starter and search the waiver wire if they don’t pan out.
RBs:
Dalvin Cook MIN: Dalvin Cook has all the tools to be a Top 5 running back. So far, his biggest impediments towards getting to that platform have been factors outside of his control: injuries and porous offensive line play. Before he tore his ACL Week 4 of the 2017 season, Cook was on pace for a 296 carry, 1,416 rushing yards and 8 touchdown season, to go along with 44 receptions on 64 targets and 360 receiving yards. That was Cook’s pace despite his offensive line being ranked 22nd by Pro Football Focus. Last season was not much better for the Vikings offensive line, as they fell back to 29 by Pro Football Focus.
On top of that, Cook never seemed to gain his footing coming off the ACL tear, bouncing in and out of the lineup with a nagging hamstring strain for much of the season. However, starting from Week 9 once he returned from his hamstring injury, he went on to average 13.62 half PPR points, which, if extrapolated over 16 games, would’ve gotten him an 11th place finish amongst running backs. This was done despite going for a game where he finished with 0.5 points, a poor offensive line, and limited usage, at least until Week 14.
After Week 14, the Vikings fired Offensive Coordinator John DeFilippo, whom they hired in the 2018 offseason from the Philadelphia Eagles after previously serving as their Quarterbacks coach. In this article from NumberFire, it is illuminated the disparity from the pass-happy offense DeFilipoo tried to install vs new offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski’s run-oriented offense. Essentially, in order to play to the strength of their stout defense, the Vikings ran more, passed less and called fewer plays, in general, churning the clock. That is the game plan Head Coach has yearned and desired for time and time again. How can you do that with personnel? Improve your offensive line, which they did in the draft (the Vikings drafted NC State C Garrett Bradbury and Oklahoma OG Dru Samia) and free agency (the Vikings signed OG Josh Kline). How can you do that philosophically? Hire an OC who will run the ball and bring in Gary Kubiak as an advisor.
Everything is set up for a Dalvin Cook breakout season, as long as he stays healthy. That’s quite the if, but the same can be said for almost any running back being drafted early. However, that risk is already being put into his ADP, which is 23.9 on ESPN and 16.2 on Sleeper. I have him 12th overall. He is the ultimate second-round pick for those drafting wide receivers round one. Don’t let him fall.
Aaron Jones GB: The upside is pretty simple to see with Aaron Jones. Before he got injured in Week 15 in a lost 2018 Packer season, he was averaging 14.3 half PPR points per game, which would’ve been 11th among all running backs. Among those qualified, he led the entire NFL in yards per carry (5.5). Though he did not rack up enough carries to qualify in 2017 battling the depth chart and injuries, he averaged 5.5 yards per carry that season too, which was only bested by some guy named Alvin Kamara. Surely you’ve heard of him.
All of that was done despite the Packers ranking 32nd (333 carries) and 27th (386 carries) in Jones’ two seasons with Mike McCarthy at the helm. That surely will change this season, as new head coach Matt LaFleur has repeatedly stressed his desire to bring more balance to the offense. His tendencies with Tennessee last season, though with a notably different pass game personnel, tend to back that up. LaFleur also wants to get the running backs involved in the passing game as well, a staple in his previous stops around the league. This is an opportunity that has eluded Jones before (in 24 games he has only been targeted 53 times and has 35 receptions and just one touchdown), but he has worked to improve on his receiving prowess and is proving in camp. As for his competition (another thorn in Jones’ side), Jones seems to have solidified his spot as the top dog. Writer for Packers.com Mike Spofford seems to think so at least, noting: ‘confirming his status as the top back on the team right now, the coaches have consistently given Jones first reps in 11-on-11 work throughout OTAs and the opening days of camp’ (link to the full article above). To add to that, backup and fellow 2017 running back draftee Jamaal Williams tweaked his hamstring during camp, giving Jones even more of a leg up for workhorse duties.
Everything is lining up for Aaron Jones. As long as he can stay healthy (and he shed body fat to help him do so), it is not out of reason at all to think he can be a top 10 running back. His ceiling is that of a second-round pick that I routinely scoop up in the third or fourth round. I would encourage you all to do the same.
Latavius Murray NOLA: Mark Ingram had 138 carries and 21 receptions in 12 games last season. The year prior: 230 carries and 58 receptions. Sure Alvin Kamara will reign supreme in New Orleans, but it sounds like he won’t get *all* the work Ingram has left behind. Latavius Murray will have a role. Will he get the 230 carries Ingram got in Kamara’s rookie year? Probably not. But could it be 184, which would’ve been Ingram’s 16 game pace from last season? That absolutely seems more plausible. He’s going to have a role in a very good offense and has immense upside in the event Alvin Kamara were to go down (which hopefully will never happen).
Rashaad Penny SEA and Royce Freeman DEN: The thinking is the same for both of these two running backs. Freeman and Phillip Lindsay will reportedly form a 50-50 split in the Denver backfield, while Rashaad Penny saw Mike Davis leave the Seattle with no established back to replace him. Mike Davis was a flex player in his own right (he finished as RB37 in Half PPR), and Seattle had at least two running backs, (Davis, Penny or workhorse) Chris Carson, finish with over double-digit fantasy points five times last year. Basically: both Freeman and Penny are going to get run this season, whether as a starter or not. Combine that with the fragility of Chris Carson and the diminutive stature of Phillip Lindsay, the upside for these two in the event of an injury is through the roof.
Damien Harris NE: New England will be a run-heavy team this season, as they were last season. Harris may not get a lot of work early, but he was drafted as insurance in case Sony Michel gets injured again. And in the event that occurs, Harris will step in as the primary rusher while James White stays in his receiving role. Even without the injury, it seems possible Harris will play given his versatility as both a runner and receiver out the backfield. Essentially, he is Darrell Henderson without the hype or the higher draft price. I think he could earn a role and don’t believe Sony Michel can/will stay healthy. If neither happens, you cut him as a late-round draft pick. If both happen, he’s a league winner.
Malcolm Brown LAR: Darrell Henderson is not the Rams’ backup running back. No, he is slated for more of a Chris Thompson-type of role in Sean McVay’s offense. While valuable in its own right, Henderson is a bit undersized for lead back duties and is just a rookie in the first year of McVay’s extravagant offense. A guy who has been there since McVay arrived in Los Angeles? Malcolm Brown. Brown is a great pass protector who has the trust of McVay to keep Jared Goff upright and execute the offense as constructed. Malcolm Brown may end up being the Jamaal Williams to Henderson’s Aaron Jones in the event of a Gurley injury, but coaches don’t care about who has the most talent to solely feed them. You have to earn playing time by doing the little things, and Brown is ahead of Henderson in that regard, especially if Henderson’s extended preseason run is any indication. I suspect Brown will get action in the Rams backfield, Gurley injury or not. Even if Gurley plays, Gurley’s touches will almost surely go down, especially if the Rams are trouncing opponents. Gurley had 66 carries while the Rams were leading by double digits. Think the Rams want to give him unnecessary touches? I don’t. Who could get some of that? Malcolm Brown. The best part about Malcolm Brown? He is dirt free. And he shouldn’t be. Remember when CJ Anderson dominated once the Rams scooped him up later in the year? That only happened *after* Brown injured his collarbone. If that were Brown himself doing what Anderson did in his/Gurley’s stead, which included three consecutive games with at least 123 rushing yards and a touchdown, how would we view him? At the very least, more receptively than how most are viewing him now. Brown is the ultimate double-digit round dart throw. He may even be on your waiver wire. Add him now. He has legit league-winning upside and literally costs you nothing to nab. He went undrafted in both of my leagues. I added him in both.
Dare Ogunbowale TB: Who? We are getting DEEP for my My Guys. Ogunbowale is a former Wisconsin running back who has bounced around the league before settling in Tampa Bay last season. However, he is more than just fighting for a roster spot; he’s gunning for legit playing time. He is the frontrunner to be the third-down back for the Bucs, a team with a porous offensive line that was 4th in the NFL in pass attempts last season BEFORE adding Bruce Arians as a head coach, who is notorious for getting running backs involved in the passing game. He is earning that role because he has soft hands (he had 60 receptions in two seasons at Wisconsin; neither Peyton Barber nor Ronald Jones has more than that in their college and professional careers COMBINED) and is trusted in pass protection (here is with a key block to buy time for a touchdown). He’s not ‘just a guy’ with the ball in his hands either; he is 5th in the preseason in forced missed tackles. The man is dirt cheap. He’s got skills, fits the team he currently plays for and has played himself into a role. I’m not saying he’s going to be this year’s Phillip Lindsay, but signs are there for Arike Ogunbowale’s brother to be a factor for both the Buccaneers and your fantasy team.
WRs:
Davante Adams GB: This is a matter of semantics. No one should dispute whether Adams will be great in fantasy barring injury, but just a matter of how high he should be drafted. He has scored double-digit touchdowns in each of the last three seasons, which is not unusual for the number one receivers under Aaron Rodgers to break regression numbers. He finally racked up 1000+ receiving yards, mowing through a murderer’s row of corners in the process. I love DeAndre Hopkins and Julio Jones, but I trust Adams more as the wide receiver. Who knows, maybe he could end up doing *even more* this season.
Julian Edelman NE: With the trained polar bear turned tight end Rob Gronkowski gone to retirement, someone has to catch passes in New England. This is where slot stud and Tom Brady bro Julian Edelman comes in. He becomes even more of a target fiend in games where Gronk hasn’t played, as NFL.com’s Graham Barfield illuminates here. His 16 game piece using his averages without Gronk: 182 targets, 116.8 receptions, 1,360 yards 5.12TDs. Remember how I talked about Davante Adams a minute ago? Here are his stats last season: 169 targets, 111 receptions, 1,386 yards 13TDs. Pretty, pretty, pretty good if you ask me. Now, Edelman did break his thumb before training camp and will be out for about 3 weeks in the preseason, but that could end up being a blessing in disguise for fantasy players so Edelman doesn’t suffer a more serious injury (obviously a concern with Edelman) and his buzz will be muted a bit. His ADP on ESPN is 34.3. On Sleeper? 45.1. He is my 21st player overall. Anywhere from the 3rd round and beyond is stealing if you can snag Edelman there, even with the news of Josh Gordon being reinstated. Heck, that might help you snag him a little later.
Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks, and Cooper Kupp LAR: If I had any apprehension of these three, it would be Kupp coming off a torn ACL, but he’s been fully cleared for camp activities. Basically, if you’re worried that these three will all eat into each other’s production enough to not warrant them as starters, don’t be. Kupp averaged 14.4 half PPR points per game last season, and one of those games he only scored 1.2 points before getting hurt. In the 8 games where Kupp played, Woods averaged 14.9 points per game and Cooks averaged 16.3, though he left a game vs the Seahawks early before hauling in a catch. I personally rank them Woods/Cooks/Kupp because I feel Woods is the most consistent and would not take Kupp as early as I would the other two because of him returning from an ACL injury (though he reportedly is cleared for all activities and isn’t even wearing a knee brace), but the point is, all are great fantasy options that could be had in rounds 4-5. I wouldn’t even sweat taking two of the three. All they do is produce.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling GB: ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported in June that MVS was the leader for the number 2 receiver spot beside Davante Adams on the outside. That all but was confirmed when fellow cheesehead receiver Geronimo Allison told him that he’d be the team’s slot receiver. Why is this important? Because the new head coach is not like fellow head bro Sean McVay. McVay ran 11 personnel (meaning 3 receivers, 1 running back and 1 tight end) a lot, while Kyle Shanahan… didn’t.  In LaFleur’s lone season at Tennessee as the offensive coordinator, he was 28th in the league in using 3+ wide receivers on the field at the same time. Now, will Geronimo still get his? Absolutely. But if MVS will be on the field more, I’d rather take my shot on a second Packer receiver on him. It also doesn’t hurt when Aaron Rodgers’ trust level in MVS seemingly beginning to grow.
Albert Wilson MIA: Albert Wilson is slated to be the Dolphins’ slot receiver. He is good at it. Ryan Fitzpatrick is slated to be the Dolphins’ starting QB. He likes throwing to the slot. Starting to sense a theme? Now, Wilson suffered a season-ending hip injury last season but was on pace for a breakout season. In games Wilson started and finished, he was averaging 13.11 fantasy points per game in half PPR formats. Take out his ginormous game against the Bears and that number falls to 9.74 points per game, which would’ve been the WR34 on a per-game basis last year. Oh, and that was with Adam Gase and his slowpoke offense that was around the bottom of the league and offensive plays ran. New offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea should run a more up-tempo scheme that could feature the slot even more if his time in New England is any indication. Wilson hasn’t done much practicing yet and reports suggest he is close to returning to team drills with the goal of playing Week 1 becoming more and more possible with each passing day. Maybe more people will pay attention to Wilson if he gets back to practice. Take advantage of people sleeping on him while you can.
TEs:
Evan Engram NYG: Evan Engram has, conveniently enough, played 16 games without Odell Beckham Jr. His numbers in those 16 games? 117 targets, 71 receptions 886 yards 6TDs. That would’ve been good for TE5 last season. Odell Beckham Jr. isn’t on the Giants any more thanks to the grand work of Dave Gettleman. Sterling Shepard broke his hand in training camp. Golden Tate is suspended for the first four games. I don’t normally take tight ends in the single-digit rounds because it is harder for them to return the value than a running back or wide receiver. Engram looks to be the lone exception in rounds 5-7.
Greg Olsen CAR: He’s going super late. He’s basically free. IF, and that’s been a big if recently, he can stay healthy, what all has changed regarding his role and status among Carolina’s pass-catchers? Not a lot.
Mark Andrews BAL: If you want this season’s George Kittle, I nominate Mark Andrews for that distinction. From Andrews’ player profile on ESPN: ‘Andrews' 552 receiving yards rank sixth, and his 16.2 YPR, 10.0 YPT, and 10.4 aDOT all rank second among rookie tight ends since 2007. Andrews did all that damage despite playing only 35 percent of the snaps.’ He and fellow Lamar Jackson have grown their chemistry in camp, where Andrews has ‘been the Ravens’ most dangerous and productive offensive player,’ according to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic. If you’re going to punt the tight end position, why not take a flier on a guy oozing with upside like Andrews, on a team with 278 targets to replace from last season?
Darren Waller OAK: Speaking of targets to replace, Oakland will have plenty to replace. Although most of them surely will go to Antonio Brown and Tyrell Williams (and Josh Jacobs), some should go to Darren Waller as well, a former Ravens draft pick who seems to have finally found a home in Oakland. Jared Cook made the Pro Bowl last year in Oakland after a 101 target, 68 reception, 896 yard and 6TD season. I’m not saying Waller will do that, but he’ll be given every chance to at least try. Especially now after this ongoing Antonio Brown frostbite/helmet fiasco. If Brown were to miss any time whatsoever, Waller will only get a boost in the target share in Oakland.
