(Finally taking time today to update my AU’s. I’ll start with the classic.)
~Lost in the Grocery Store~
Au: Kaishi
Part: Nineteen
Theme: Fluff
Tumblr media
"Absolutely not." Golden eyes mimic each other in a stare-off before the boy huffs in annoyance and stomps off to his room reluctantly. Kai sighs and shakes his head before turning his attention out of the window once more. The rainfall is only semi heavy today. The dark clouds covered the sun making the world around him seem so dreary. The wind was lovely at the very least. He took only a moment to himself to gather his thoughts and compile a list before he heard you clear your throat behind him. He turned and smiled at your figure leaning against the frame of the hallway entrance. "So you've got it all down then?" You ask with a teasing smile and he chuckles. "Oh I do, trust me. I won't forget the whipping cream or the eggs. You can put all your faith in me angel." You nod and shift closer to hug him. He welcomes your touch without a moment of hesitation as the thought of something less appropriate pops up and lingers in his mind. "I could use a good luck kiss right now, my angel." The corners of his eyes scrunch up, indicating a smile underneath that black fabric covering his lips. "Is that so?" You smile and lean in for the kill. Before your lips could meet you hear a loud groan of annoyance echo in the living room. "Ew Daddy, forget that and let's go already!" Kaishi complained for the millionth time about his parents showing affection. Kai sighed and looked down at his kid. "You change those God awful flip flops yet, brat?" Kaishi stomped his feet and pointed downward at his rain boots. "All better daddy, now hurry up and let's go!" The boy jetted past him and straight out the door, ignoring the slippery front steps and nearly careening into a deep puddle. Kai shook his head and hit the unlock button on the car while standing there from inside the house and watching Kaishi get into his booster seat in the back of the car. "I wish you all the luck in the world." You joked while he grabbed his jacket hanging on a hook by the front door. "For what? He's just a 5 year old. How hard can it be?"
Oh how he would live to regret those words when the two of them arrived at the grocery store. He was used to shopping with you and Kaishi usually. I mean the boy was quiet as a baby, a little rambunctious as a 2 year old, manageable as a 3 year old right? Well as it turns out, the experience is different when you're not there to help. Kai could barely get a moment to gather himself because as soon as he parked the car and started unbuckling Kaishi from the booster seat, the boy was already rambling and kicking his legs out. "Shhhh." Kai tried one of your gentle tactics but it didn't work. The man simply sighed and prepared himself mentally for the hyperactive toddler and the myriad of items he refused to write down on a physical list. "Let's see...eggs, scallions, rice, fruit." He mumbled the list over to himself while reaching for a cart. When he felt resistance he looked down to see Kaishi trying to pull the cart in the opposite direction. "Daddy, I want to push the cart." The boy looked up at him with stoic eyes mirroring his. Kai groaned and released the handle. "Just be careful with it." He began to recount the list in his head once more while Kaishi pushed the cart down the aisle. At some point, Kai had gotten in front of the cart to retrieve something from the shelves when Kaishi rammed it into his ankles roughly. Kai quickly looked down and glared as he ignored the pain radiating from his smashed ankles. "Sorry daddy, it was an accident." Kaishi wasn't lying either. The boy hardly had experience pushing the cart by himself. Usually you let him push the cart while you held onto one end of it and helped him steer. Kai remembered this only after Kaishi rammed into him a second and third time. His quickly gripped the edge of the cart and resolved to help his son steer. He smiled warmly to himself when he heard the tiny voice utter out a 'thank you, daddy' as they continued to shop.
Kaishi was quiet sometimes and resembled him more than he did himself, but other times he was talkative as you'd expect from a child of course. This was one of those times. The boy uttered nonsense on and on about various topics while Kai was trying his best as to not break focus from the list of items still remaining to be picked out. Finally he came up with an alternative to the situation. "Kaishi do you want to help me get the stuff?" He paused and looked at his son directly in the eyes. The boy gasped and quickly nodded his head. "Great, then remind me to pick up heavy whipping cream and eggs. This is the most important so do not forget it." Kaishi had determination written all over his little face. "I won't!" He was fired up and began to quietly repeat the two ingredients to himself. "Another win for me." Kai mumbled to himself before turning down the next aisle with his son close by. The shopping was moving along swimmingly until he noticed something rather odd about the cart. He finally paused for a moment to recount the items inside and that's when he realized half of what was in the cart was not what he placed in himself. Perhaps a small set of guilty hands was to blame here? Fruit snacks (4 boxes), Animal Crackers, Juice/Punch, Candy bags, and 2 miniature car toys. "Hmmmm..." He pondered to himself before glimpsing at his son eyeing the snacks on the shelf. Kai smirked to himself and pretended as if he was looking away at something interesting. As soon as Kaishi reached for the snack Kai quickly turned to him and pointed. "Aha! Caught red handed, brat." The boy dropped the snacks on the ground and giggled. "Alright that's enough of that." Kai started unloading the various items. When he noticed his son frowning a bit he sighed and placed the Animal Crackers back into the cart. "One thing. You may keep one thing, got it?" The boy smiled widely and nodded with excitement. Kai ignored the swell of warmth in his heart at that moment.
That very same swell returned to him as he was driving home and caught a glimpse of his son in the backseat. The boy was sleeping with his head hanging to the side comfortably against the seat. Cracker crumbs were scattered about his cheeks, a lone elephant shaped morsel still held in his hand as he rested. It was bittersweet realizing his child would one day grow up and all the little things now wouldn't be the same when he's older. Kai would have to cherish everything as much as he could before the day came that he'd no longer have a little brat.
"Daddy?" Kaishi's groggy voice snapped Kai out of his thoughts? "Did you get the heavy whipping cream like you were supposed to?"
...
"Uh..."

I just low key envisioned a kaishi fic featuring the detective boys in my head. And tell me why my brain had to ruin the cuteness with shinshi angst. I swear I need to write this rep album fic for them. But I’m waiting for Taylor’s version

Hello guys I will tell you about a story I really liked
This is a story mix of (Xiaolin Showdown cartoon with Cardcaptor Sakura anime)
If you know The two shows This makes it easier for you to understand a story Au and the lore in it
note : I know Xiaolin before however I didn't know of Cardcaptor Sakura So I decided to watch it and It was a really fun and enjoyable series
Story Summary : Jack Spicer died. It had happened at a Showdown, for the Xin de kaishi. The Wu had been hidden in a flower field, surrounded by so many real daffodils. It started out fine. Then, things got ugly. Jack had given up not too long ago, but went with everything out of habit. The partial albino was done with the war, and all the abuse that came with it. Too bad he decided this way too late. Jack Spicer died in the war for the Wu, not even twenty-one yet. He died. A bloody and painful one at that. So, why was he waking back up? Jack died, but because of the Wu, he had been sent back to the start. The Wu had somehow sent him back into the past. But the thing was; Jack didn't want to be alive. He would have rather death then waking back up. His life was a mess before; he was essentially abused by everyone, had no friends to call his own, he failed too much to be of use to anyone, and he would bet all his money that no one cried at his funeral. So why was it that he had been sent back? Why does it seem like no matter what, he can't escape the world of magic? Jack would rather have stayed dead. Maybe if he doesn't try this time, everything would work out better? The Wu are not the only magical items fought over.
It's true there are four pages But I'm really looking forward to next pages
I was thinking of ideas for the storylines
in Jack adventure, He saw a restaurant that place looks like old pictures in his grandparent's book jack meets the owner of the restaurant His name is Tom he knows jack's Grandparents And This is how jack became Close to Tom's family because of the link is Grandparents (Later he discovers that they are his relatives) tom wife's name is Narumi And he has three children the elder sister Keiko age 18 middle brother Rico Youngest sister Emi thay like jack age And they became jack friends They became a band in a restaurant jack plays the guitar
And I'm thinking it that Emi like Tomoyo Daidouji Love doing videos of Jack and take pictures of him in different clothes And especially when it is when Jack used magic cards and Emi be sad or Disappointed When she doesn't have her video camera or camera to record Jack or When she missed the scene of Jack fighting
or when jack goes to Paris he meets Le Mime The quiet card may be with him Because Le Mime Doesn't make sounds maybe jack and Le Mime They become friends And another suggestion jack tries to train in martial arts and learn magic from Kero And he does research about its history fairy creatures or About magic cultures else I imagine when faced Someone who has the power of fear And it shows jack of fear clown ghost But he got angry and said True, I am afraid of these things But There was before and this is now I'm not afraid of them
And another scene when jack met Omi, Kimiko, Raimundo, and Clay and Dojo in coincidence because of magic card in the same place Shen Gong Wu or magic card mess with Wu, jack Little freaks out But it does not appear in the face Kero Worry ask Is everything okay? jack He holds his nerve and tries to hide him in a place so that the monks do not see him But if he meets them He shows them a face without feelings without interest and hides Kero In his bag and tell him not to get out of it, otherwise he will be punished by preventing him from sweets And another idea When I think about jack romantic life I think He is not interested in dating anyone And his feelings do not like anyone And a special Chase Young his ex crush He does not believe that anyone loves him And when someone tries to have a romantic relationship with jack Shows no interest or feelings I think Pan Li or someone else try They win jack heart
And another idea if jack was not the person releasing Wuya from her puzzle box what do you think of Ashley, a.k.a. Katnappe the One releasing Wuya first the puzzle box Stolen from a store with other stolen goods How did she solvethe puzzle box? by Coincidentally It was her cats they play puzzle box with their claws Like balls of wool And somehow thay solvethe puzzle box That's how Wuya got Free
else I think jack used kind of magic to protect his mind And his home Because he remembers Hannibal Roy Bean Enter his mind and his dreams And jack don't want demon Bean Or any other creature that enters people's memories, thoughts and dreams He doesn't want anyone to know his past He takes with him his kind of magic bracelet or necklace or He does a magic spell stop Any creature or spirit Something enters his mind or memories as well put it on magical shield is for example The house is in the middle of a mushroom circle and salt circles And other things and object hanging in a house like stickers that prevent the entry of an evil force and Dreamcatchers and stuff has Charm and other cultures object prevent anyone from entering or evil force or jack doesn't want anyone spying on him in distant or his house like someone might watching by Magic mirrors or through Pot or Any type of spy magic
And my other idea jack occupies himself with hobbies Like anything robots invent or work in the Gardening He reads about a plant, plant types, history plant, and how it is taken care of plant He even built it himself very very Big plant greenhouse In each section there are different types of plant, soil, temperature, amount of water, sunlight and shade Who enters a green house thay thought it was in a fairy forest or maze Forest and plant
I really wonder What is jack relationship with his parents in this AU
Another idea Someone else is collecting magic cards And someone look like Syaoran Li one of Clow relatives Thanks to compass the location of the cards it led him to Jack he command To hand over the book and magic cards Jack was about to give it to him but Kero stop him And he says it Jack is the chosen one And he is the real owner of this book and magic cards else Jack will become the greatest card magician/// part of Jack feel sad Because he did not get away from this problem But part of Jack feel happy because Kero Really cares for him

I promise this isn't a request its just a question, Do you have a like favorite author or authors that make Overhaul, Hawks, Dabi or Hari content? Just curious since we both worship the ground these men walk on
@yoshinoritagi (arms at rest need I say more?)
@thotsforvillainrights (I recommend the Kaishi Au, always make me laugh one of the funeral where him and eri made a plaything)

Accomplice (2/?)
Again, Happy ShinAi Day, everyone!
This isn’t really ShinAi, but I wrote this chapter to Accomplice to start off the prompt posts for my 31 Days of CoAi project! If you haven’t seen my meta post yet:
I will be posting very short fics daily from 4/2 to 4/30! (tag: x prompt fills)
If you’re interested in my ramblings about the CoAi fics I’ve written, I’ll be talking about them one at a time daily from 4/1 to 5/1! (tag: x fic posts)
And, finally, on 5/1, I will be posting One Chilly Morning, which is the third chapter to One Rainy Afternoon, to end my 31 Days of CoAi project…
This month will be a ride, for sure! As much as I’ve expressed how incredibly painful preparing this project for me is, it has been loads of fun for me to express my love for CoAi, and in such a grandiose manner too!
I think I consider this project my love letter to CoAi. I’m a sucker for the romantic, sorry, haha!
I hope everyone enjoys it, too, to the very end!

“This is the fifth time you hit me, detective!”
As what’s becoming usual between the two of them, Kudo Shinichi ignores Kid’s complaints as he chases Kid across a maze of hallways and stairways, this time in the TV station building where Kid nicked the showpiece during live broadcast.
The way this Kid is much more talkative tells Shinichi the thief he’s been chasing for the past heists is Thief Kid. Only Thief Kid.
And that pisses Shinichi off more than he’d like. Is Thief Kid thinking he can just pull off whatever he wants against him without the assistance he’s particularly proud of?
Shinichi can’t deny Thief Kid did manage to escape last time. And the other time. And that other time, too. But that’s in the past. The present is much more important because in the present he’s been leading Thief Kid into a dead end and he’s been wonderful in cooperating so far.
Yes, a dead end that does not include rooftops, nor windows and, even, vents.
All this while kicking various office property at Thief Kid that he swears is necessary for him to be able to lead Kid into his setup. Yes, all necessary. He can’t help that he has just that good aim since he’s just that good at soccer, and that Thief Kid can’t dodge completely right?
As Thief Kid leaps to the right after Shinichi kicks a trash can to his left, smoothly going into the room Shinichi has been steering him into since the chase began, he shouts, “Will you stop being so violent if I answer one question of yours?”
Shinichi enters the room in a beat, and excited as he is with his plans falling into place, he doesn’t even think before he asks, “You’re alone this time?”
In the middle of the room, Thief Kid is stunned into silence for more than a second, and Shinichi feels seeing the expression is so gratifying... until Thief Kid laughs. As much as Shinichi wanted to remain unaffected, the corners of his mouth turn down, uncontrollably, to an unmistakable grimace.
They stay like that for a short moment, Shinichi blocking the only exit to the room and Thief Kid cackling while holding his sides, in full of view of the unamused detective in front of him.
Thief Kid, after laughing for a good while, wheezes, “...That’s it? That’s the question?”
Shinichi’s scowl grows deeper in reply.
Thief Kid, as chatty as he’s proven to be these past heists and as shameless as Shinichi had always assumed him to be, continues, “Are you trying to pick me up? Or are you trying to pick me up?! Oh, another misguided youth, you wouldn’t be able to handle me! To be honest, the safer option is to fancy the good ol’ me in front of you! Oh, but then, dear, why so violent! You must be gentle when courting! That must be why you’re still single, detective...”
Not even bothering to focus on whatever nonsense Thief Kid has been spouting, Shinichi backs up a few steps to end up just outside the doorway, and proceeds to kick the bin nearby in a perfect trajectory to Thief Kid’s incessantly babbling mouth.
Thief Kid deftly sidesteps to avoid the projectile, all the while dramatically intoning, “Whoa, whoa, detective, keep that up and you’ll chase me away! I’m not an M, really, I’m actually pretty vanilla! I prefer the traditional way of courting—”
With a snappy kick to the top of the bin that had fallen off, Shinichi manages to hit him right on his arm this time, and Thief Kid yelps, “—Ouch!”
“Hey! Ok, ok, I’m alone today! Tch!”
Seemingly soured by another arm injury, Thief Kid throws a familiar canister hard on the spot on the floor between the two of them almost petulantly—but Shinichi is prepared. He quickly wears the mask he had Hakase make and rushes Thief Kid.
He’s just four—no, three big steps away from Thief Kid, and then he feels a prick right smack in the middle of his forehead. He feels his senses fade, and the foot he had raised in an effort to take an even larger stride to handcuff Thief Kid lands on the floor without strength, and he falls, face down.
“This is going to cost me big...” is what Shin hears over the hissing of the cloudy white gas from the canister, which is evidently not the sleep gas he had been preparing for.
The last thing he hears is a big sigh before everything cuts to black, and it frustrates Shinichi that he knows exactly why this feels like déjà vu.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
When the next Kid heist comes around, Shinichi’s face is set to such a grim expression that even Nakamori-keibu is apprehensive about going near him, much less ask him why.
Shinichi doesn’t notice the dark aura arising from him though. He’s mentally going through his plans and their preparations, watching the clock as the seconds tick closer and closer to the announced time.
Still, whatever his plans and how intricate they may be, Shinichi certainly didn’t expect that before the heist has even started, he’ll find himself blacking out already.
And out cold he is, with a handful of seconds to spare before the clock rang out the time.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
As soon as Shinichi regained consciousness, his resentment overrode his survival instincts and, without even taking note of his state and his surroundings, he immediately forces out the words, “Is this a thing, you rendering me unconscious?”
“Hit him again and I’ll make sure you won’t be able to move a single limb for a week,” is what he hears before he can even regain his focus.
It’s that flat voice, familiar in its tone, at the same time unfamiliar due to the high, decidedly feminine, pitch it now has, that responded to him.
It’s him—or her, Escape Kid. Shinichi feels a bit of pride, being able to force both Kids to act against him.
But then again, he can’t exactly gloat right now since there’s a dangerous intent emanating, not so much dripping killing intent, but enough menace to know Escape Kid fully intends to go through his threats.
And he can’t even lift his head nor open his eyes yet to see just where he’s been dragged off to.
Quite possibly, and correctly, expecting him to stay silent in his disorientation, Escape Kid continues, “I trust you’re smart enough to understand with just one warning, detective. Because I only warn once.”
Shinichi hears a rustle of clothes and shuffling of feet, and he deduces that Escape Kid is about to leave. Escape Kid stops a moment though, and Shinichi hears them say, “And. Not that he’d need me to outwit idiots… but he’s not alone. So since you aren’t any help, stop messing with us. Else—”
“—You’ll knock me out at every heist. How very imaginative of you, and how very unlike a criminal,” Shinichi croaks, with as much ridicule as he can, cutting them off as he struggles to sit up, tied up as he is.
“So noble,” he continues, hoping it drips with as much sarcasm as he intended that to have. He can finally open his eyes a bit, the light flooding his sight, surprisingly, since he expected to be locked in a dark room, even when he’s managed to open them in just tiny slits.
“Clearly I’m the villain here, and it’s Kid, innocent Kid, who must be protected at all costs—” Shinichi stops suddenly when he manages to successfully lift his head and he finally sees his kidnapper: brunette—no, that’s not the right shade—locks, mostly hidden by a black cap, tied in a low ponytail, in a black bodysuit and tight-fitting black pants, with a plain tactical belt laden with pouches, boots securely tied, eyes that, though blocked by the cap, he can feel literally and figuratively looking down at him, a murderous looking smirk that chills his bones—
“Yes, yes, detective dear, I must be protected at all costs! I am the clearest, most precious, gem, the purest white pearl of the deep blue sea, the paragon of innocence! I’m just a kid after all!”
The room that had dropped several degrees in temperature returns to normal the moment Thief Kid started his boisterous entrance. Shinichi turns his head to see the familiar gaudy white outfit, cape swishing as if to emphasize his unending droll claims to virtue.
Upping the level of absurdity, Thief Kid, hands on his hips, goes on to say, “On the other hand… you! I was wondering where my persistent suitor was and I go and find him cheating with you!”
Escape Kid’s smirk had long gone from her face. Now a small amused smile has taken its place, as she says, “I knew he was your type. You would never have put up with him otherwise.”
“Hey! I missed you too, don’t be jealous now... After all," Thief Kid clears his throat, "I’m not alone, right?”
“… You..!”
“Heh, the queen has issued her decree! By her majesty’s orders, I can be injured no more!”
“… Calling you a birdbrain would insult the birds, really…”
“If her majesty would give me her hand, I would love to whisk her away from this dull and gloomy place, very unfitting of her personality as bright and sunny as—”
“Shut up. Let’s go, idiot.”
“Aye! By your leave, madame!”
Shinichi finds that he doesn’t have the words to describe what he’d just been audience to, except, maybe, a romcom skit starring a brazen flirt and an overprotective tsundere..?
Thief Kid’s voice blasts through his thoughts though, as he calls out, “Hey, I just saved you from the devil’s wrath; you owe me one, detective!’
Shinichi, having done nothing but lie down then sit in who knows how long, finds himself feeling incredibly tired already throughout the whole affair. Since he still can’t move his arms and legs, he can only reply, “I owe you. Really.”
In contrast to Shinichi’s I-might-as-well-be-lying-in-a-ditch-since-I-can’t-do-anything-like-this mood, Thief Kid is in high spirits, answering in an almost too-bright tone, “Was that your attempt at sarcasm? Anyway, yep, you do! You really wouldn’t want to know what she can and would do. See you! Someday, maybe, you can make it up to me and her royal highness. Until then, you’re in my debt!”
Shinichi feels this the most radiant he’s ever seen Thief Kid, even as he scrambles out the door, shouting after Escape Kid...
… Leaving him with a temporarily paralyzed body, bruised ego, confusion, and, if he’s being honest, keyed up anticipation over the next heist.
Except he’s not being honest, so he settles for annoyance and curses both Thief Kid and “her royal highness” under his breath.
I only warn once, your ass.
You owe me, your ass.
Meanwhile, two figures escape with the stolen scepter, unbothered and uninjured.

[FanFic Asks]
F - Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.
“Of course I’m angry that ya got Heiji involved!” Kazuha says. “Do you know what ya made him do? If anyone finds out abou’ this, then you’re not th’ only one goin’ back to prison. You’ll be draggin’ Heiji down with ya, because ya made him an accomplice.”
“My life was at risk, I had no other choice.”
“Maybe you didn’t have another choice,” Kazuha says, “but now Heiji’s life is at risk too.”
Okay, I cut the description out but this bit from Ch27 of CoF. I love it, because it’s the first time we fully learn of the consequences for other characters. Before this, we only know Shinichi’s consequence, and we’ve backed his decisions, but this gives us a dash of reality. If that makes sense?
I - Do you have a guilty pleasure in fic (reading or writing)?
AUs. People falling in love with one another despite being in a completely different universe with different dynamics. I love it.
P - Are you what George R. R. Martin would call an “architect” or a “gardener”? (How much do you plan in advance, versus letting the story unfold as you go?)
I’m a mixture of the both! I always have a rough outline of how I want things to go down in longer fics, but none of the intricate details. Even with CoF, the most I plan is about three lines of plan. For example, Ch12′s plan was:
Solitary confinement - Aoko - Hallucination / Imitation
Shin gives Kaito some playing cards.
U - Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.
@angelicsentinel - has a really fluid, consistent writing style that I’ve fallen in love with. It’s beautiful, and they write characters in a way that makes them seem real and not like cardboard cut outs.
@presumenothing - writes gen fics that I absolutely love. She has a way of getting into my head and making me think about ships I hadn’t thought about before. *Cough* KaiShi *Cough*
@ninthfeather - I think they might be one of my favourites because the plot twists and overall plot of Steeplechase is just magnificent? A lovely writing style, and they’re able to write several characters with really good clarity?

I dont think I'll write it out, but just imagine Kaishi getting ready to go trick or treating and he keeps sneaking the candy from the "Take One" bowl off the front porch. Then when you and Kai finally tell him it's time to get in the car and go, his bag is already full. And Kai is just there like...
"Where did you even get...????????"

I know I keep saying just one more scene, and I hope I mean it this time. But theres just one more scene for me to write for the solstice event. I haven’t even changed the ending, and I haven’t exactly diverted my path towards the ending, it’s just I keep adding extra details and thoughts, so it’s taking longer. I’ve almost doubled what I was at before when I claimed I was almost done. I just broke 6k, what is happening here. I don’t write things this long, I’m comfortable in the 1 maybe 2k range. This fic also feels different to me too. But then again I try to diversify my writing, I tell the same story over and over so I have to switch it up some how. It’s very midnights-esq which make sense cause that was the vibe I was going for but also very typical of my Christmas fics too. Almost feels like my roots, but like adjacent to it cause it’s not just all fluff, it’s more like pockets of it? Idk who I’m even trying to explain this to, I’m just rambling. Okay bye, it’s almost Pen time. Let’s Go Pens!🤍🖤💛🐧
(While I’m here. I was onto something with my hockey AU. Idk all the details but yeah, though I think it’s more similar to the former Canes drama. My fic idea that is. Actually it may be similar to this current drama too? Idk)
Update: it’s under 7k but I’m done with the first draft. Idk how I feel about the bonus scene though… I kinda wanna rewrite it cause I envisioned things a little differently, but I won’t worry about it right now since it’s done. In unrelated but sorta related news, kinda wanna write the rescue me song fic, the song by OneRepublic not the other one.
^ignore all of that cause I went back and added more, so now we’ve broken 7k but at least it ties in with midnights better now *sigh why am I like this. Okay let’s try and work on other WIPs now
Update 2: went on Twitter and I desperately still need to watch m26. Honestly how are they not real. Why does this keep happening to me. All my fav ships are not canon when they all should’ve been. It’s me, hi, I’m the problem it’s me 😭
Update 3: finished (probably) the next chapter of the sibling verse too! Now let’s see if I can work on devour or I wish I cared less… (so I went and reread what I had written for devour and it kinda feels wrapped up in a way? Like there’s still a lot of shit, but the part of the story that I wanted to tell seems to be finished? I suppose I could circle back to kaishi, but I fear it’ll lose the focus cause I get way too into kaishi whenever I mention them. Idk. I’ll put a pin into it for now and say it’s maybe done?)

It's been centuries since we last saw Jack. This here is Kaishi, kai, or John (John is like another way of saying Jack lol) One of Jack's descendants. He's the son of the last emperor, a current member of the new japan oligarchy. His fate is intertwined with Ashi as the two main focuses of this S6 AU. He's just as skilled as Jack was in his prime. It became a tradition for all of the emperor's sons to have 5 master's of the ancient world's traditions as well as newer fighting styles. I haven't decided on whether he should know the Scotsman, and co., but I'll decide as I develope the AU more.

Oh my god, dude.... Soul mate ask... Can I ask for 23 KaiShi (I'm so in love with this pairing, you've ruined me.)
(soulmate AU prompts)
regret nothing until it is too late, then regret e v e r y t h i n g
this turned out more ai-centric than anything else lmao, mea culpa. scenes not in chronological order, will probably rework/expand later bc i feel
.
23. the one where once you meet your soulmate, it’s physically uncomfortable to be apart from them for too long.
.
v.
In most regards, Ai supposes, she could have done worse than having the Kaitou Kid as her soulmate.
It might’ve been Edogawa instead, for starters, and while that isn’t in itself a problem it’d still mean seeing more dead bodies than she really cares for.
(Though if Kuroba tries to talk her into moving to Ekoda again, Ai isn’t going to be responsible for what she does in response.
It’s mostly his fault that they ever met anyway, so as far as she’s concerned he can either move to Beika or deal with the consequences.)
iv.
Shiho has never put much stock in the concept of soulmates.
She’s well-acquainted with the scientific evidence, obviously. Extensive research in the field continues to be ethically controversial, but studies have sufficiently demonstrated the correlation between separating certain pairs of people for extended periods of time and the associated physiological effects: increased heart rate, shallow respiration, heightened levels of cortisol. The evidence is convincing, though the particulars differ, and no rigorous theory of the bond has been developed thus far.
What she questions are the psychological effects people often discuss. Nothing ludicrously precise as telepathy – those claims had been thoroughly debunked in the ‘80s, even if urban legends still circulated to this day – but instead a whole host of subtler effects, with the most commonly cited one being empathy connected to strong feelings.
It seems fallacious, though, to assume that such a bond would entail any emotional connection, beyond the effects of cognitive dissonance working to smooth over a relationship enforced by proximity.
At any rate, as far as Shiho’s concerned, her soulmate – if she has one, since the conditions make it difficult to conclusively prove whether or not every individual has a soulmate – is better off staying away from her, for both their sakes. The last thing she needs is to be bound down geographically, let alone to any single individual, and unless her hypothetical soulmate is in the Organisation as well she doesn’t see how the situation can be tenable anyway.
(She rarely spends time around people anyway, so it’s not like it matters all that much, really.)
iii.
If nothing else, being an elementary schooler means that people assume by default that she hasn’t really thought much about the concept of soulmates yet, let alone had a chance to meet her own.
Ai is more than fine with that. She still believes that the entire phenomenon of soulmates is more trouble than it’s worth, and becoming Haibara Ai has only served to further cement that opinion, if anything.
(The professor had asked her about it once, near the beginning, followed a few days later by Edogawa when he’d stopped tiptoeing around her like a bomb set to explode at any moment. The detective hadn’t bothered couching it as an indirect question, of course, but she understood the intent all the same, as well as their relief when she’d answered in the negative.
You couldn’t very well sever a bond with just a change of name, after all, and Edogawa is very fortunate that Mouri Ran isn’t his soulmate, because there wouldn’t have been any hiding from that.)
ii.
Akemi doesn’t share her opinions, of course.
Shiho watches her sister talk animatedly over dinner, eyes alight with excitement, about an old school friend of hers who’d just found her soulmate, and wonders if she should hope for Akemi to find her own as well.
(Sometimes, she wishes that she’d thought to ask.)
i.
Ayumi and the others are chatting about soulmates during lunch break one day, Edogawa chiming in every now and then with the occasional correction when their chatter veers too far from the facts, when Genta asks, “How d’you even know so much about soulmates anyway, Conan-kun?”
Edogawa laughs in the way he does whenever he’s trying to redirect someone’s attention. “Ah, Ran-neechan and Sonoko-neechan talk a lot about it, that’s all!”
The kids nod, satisfied by this answer, but it’s like a switch flicks on in Ai’s mind – because Genta has a point, and Ai can’t believe she hasn’t noticed it before.
She knows almost everything Edogawa has mentioned so far, that much is true, but that’s largely because she’d just about gone through the existing literature with a fine-toothed comb to check for anything that could potentially interfere with the apoptoxin’s effects.
Even so, Edogawa’s mentioned details that even Ai herself isn’t aware of, and while she can testify to the fact that teenagers talk incessantly about the possibility of meeting their soulmates, as far as she knows neither Mouri nor Suzuki have found theirs yet.
She does at least wait until they’re out of the Detective Boys’ earshot before asking the increasingly apparent question. “You do have a soulmate, don’t you, Edogawa-kun?”
He’s clearly prepared for it, though, because he doesn’t even hesitate before answering. “I told you, Ran’s not my soulmate.”
…Edogawa is a terrible liar. Nevertheless, Ai looks away, pretending to drop the subject as she thinks – it has to be someone in the know, and the answer is startlingly obvious once she thinks about it.
Ai can feel herself smirking. She can’t help it. “So, how is it, having Hattori-kun as a soulmate?”
That makes Edogawa choke on the orange juice he’s drinking, which is all the confirmation she needs. Serves him right for forgetting that he’s not the only one capable of detective work here, Ai thinks with vindictive satisfaction.
(Then, of course, Ayumi manages to convince her to attend a Kid heist less a week later, and – well.
Ai believes in karma even less than she does soulmates, but the irony is almost enough to convince her otherwise.)
0.
The rooftop is freezing.
It’s not snowing, at least, but the gusts of biting wind aren’t much of an improvement.
Today’s heist is the third she’s attended so far, though Ayumi had still been surprised when Ai said that she was planning on coming along – she’d promptly proceeded to power excitedly through the afternoon’s classroom cleaning, dragging the boys along in her wake.
(Ai had ignored Edogawa’s obviously amused glances all the way to the heist site. His deductions aren’t completely off-track, after all, since she is developing an interest in Kid, if not for the reasons he apparently assumes.
It’s not at all surprising for an elementary schooler to be a Kid fangirl, after all, and Ai’s been careful to cultivate her attention gradually enough to avoid suspicion.
At any rate, it’s almost a blessing in disguise that Ai’s bonded to one of the few people even less likely than herself to want a soulmate known. Kid, at least, might not have enemies that would cheerfully take a soulmate ransom if given the chance, but Ai isn’t planning on taking risks either way.)
She tightens the scarf around her neck, grateful that she’d thought to dress in warmer clothing today, and tries to occupy her thoughts with figuring out whether she can gauge Kid’s proximity from how she’s feeling.
As a distraction from the weather, it’s resoundingly unsuccessful, but her mental map narrows abruptly just as Kid slips through the roof access door, jams the lock firmly closed, and turns towards her.
(His cape flares dramatically with the motion. Ai gives him an unimpressed look.)
“Good evening, ojousan.” The magician doesn’t sound surprised, but that means little for someone who isn’t fazed by Edogawa’s soccer missiles. “Should I assume that your presence means what I believe it does?”
“I certainly hope so,” Ai says, her tone perhaps more curt than the situation calls for, but she’s been waiting for a long time and it is cold. “You might not agree, but I’d hate to be stuck with someone of subpar intelligence.”
Amusement flickers across Kid’s expression. “That’s a tall order, but I’ll do my best. Does tantei-kun know?”
It’s a question Ai expects, so her answer comes readily enough. “I haven’t told anyone, but I’d give it three weeks at most before he figures it out, though the sheer unlikelihood of this situation might throw him off for a while longer. Either way, I don’t have any plans to assist Edogawa-kun in catching you with this, to answer your actual question.”
“The inadmissibility of soulmate bonds as evidence in court notwithstanding, I suppose?” Kid asks lightly, and Ai shrugs. It’s not like either of them actually believe that the detective would do anything based on such a tenuous thing without amassing further evidence, anyway.
“If you get caught on your own, that’s frankly none of my business,” she replies blithely, crossing her arms. “Though at least you’d have a regular visitor in prison, if that’s any consolation.”
Kid hums noncommittally as he holds tonight’s heist target up to the moonlight. “Not that I wouldn’t appreciate the company, hypothetically speaking, but if you could consider bringing chocolate?”
Ai raises an eyebrow – she hadn’t pegged the magician to be a chocoholic, though perhaps she should have, assuming that he kept up an active civilian life alongside his night persona – when there’s the recognisable crackle of Edogawa’s shoes powering up in the near distance.
Kid somehow manages to cross the span of the rooftop in the few seconds it takes for a soccer ball to force the door open, revealing Edogawa behind it, dart watch already aimed and ready to fire.
Before the detective can say anything, though, Kid smirks visibly under the shadow of his hat and speaks, loud enough to be heard over the wind even from several metres away. “Looks like you got beaten to the punch this time, tantei-kun!”
Edogawa glances over at her in disbelief, though his watch doesn’t waver from its target. “Haibara? How’d you manage to get up here so quickly?”
“Wouldn’t you like to know, meitantei-san?” Ai quips right back, already turning to leave. “I’d be more worried about your quarry getting away if I were you, though.”
The detective blanches at the reminder and turns back immediately, but Ai doesn’t need to look over her shoulder to know that Kid’s used the distraction to slip away – on his glider, probably, from the vague sense of steadily increasing distance between them.
She tucks her hands back into the welcome warmth of her coat pockets as she glances up anyway, her gaze tracking the white triangle across the night sky.
“Better luck next time, Edogawa-kun,” Ai says with a complete lack of sincerity, and leaves him alone on the rooftop, staring after her in confusion.
(She doesn’t miss the smooth edges of a card in her right pocket, of course, but waits until Agasa fetches them home before taking it out.
Black ink stands out starkly against the plain rectangle even in the dim moonlight – one sentence followed by a Kid caricature:
Don’t be a stranger! O_^
Ai rolls her eyes – if Kid is actually expecting her to follow him across town he’s got another think coming – before putting the card away in her top drawer and locking it.
The feeling from earlier is faint now, not registering as discomfort so much as an indefinable pressure, but as far as she can tell, Kid has mostly stopped moving some considerable distance away, though she can’t pick out the direction he’s in.
The scientist in Ai is increasingly tempted to study the boundaries of this, now that she has herself as an immediately accessible test subject, but she contents herself with the one experiment she can run immediately.
Ai silences her other thoughts as completely as she can, and focuses her mind on one sentence.
Don’t leave your heist targets with me, Ai thinks, emphatically, with all the annoyed exasperation the sentiment deserves.
She’s fully planning to drop the jewel in Edogawa’s school satchel once she gets the chance, obviously – no one needs to know that it was in her left pocket at some point, and it wouldn’t be the first time a heist target has been returned to Nakamori-keibu via detective.
But still. It’s the principle of the matter, and if Ai has no choice but to attend Kid heists regularly now she’s going to do it on her own terms.)
.
(“Are you alright, Kaito-bocchama?” Jii asks in concern when Kaito shivers, and he can only shrug cluelessly in response – the Blue Parrot is warm, the chocolate in his mug more so.
None of it explains why he’d felt a sudden chill down his spine, unless Akako is up to something again.
Kaito really hopes she isn’t.)

Nike betreibt weltweit 14 Kaufhäuser, eins davon steht seit 1999 in Berlin-Charlottenburg. Nike wirbt seit 2005 mit der Kampagne „Stand up, speak up!“, deutsch „Steht auf, sprecht vor!“, gegen den Rassismus, für mehr Toleranz und Akzeptanz.
