A pair of Katsina figures seen in Santa Fe. I’ve always heard them referred to as “Kachina,” but on this trip learned that Kachina has long been used by outsiders to refer to any of the hundreds of spiritual beings central to Hopi religious life as well as to the dolls that depict them, but according to the Hopi, “Katsina” is more correct and preferred. Seen at Bahti Indian Arts in Santa Fe. #katsina #kachina #hopi #hopikatsina #nativeamerican #art #spiritualfigures #dolls #kachinadolls #katsinadoll #bahtiindianarts #santafe (at Santa Fe, New Mexico) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cj10qbSMnwb/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Kachina ghost lawyer- Known as Sohonasomtaka this kachina can be a Chief, Guard, or Hunter depending on the ceremony. He may also appear as a warrior who punishes the clowns when they get out of hand. As a guard, he would protect and keep ceremonies from outsider intrusions.
