Who Goes There? (John W. Campbell) "A group of American researchers, isolated in their scientific station in Antarctica towards the end of winter, discover an alien spaceship buried in the ice, where it crashed twenty million years before. They recover an alien creature from the ancient ice. Thawing revives the alien, a being which can assume the appearance, memories, and personality of a living thing it devours, while maintaining its body mass for further reproduction. Unknown to them, the alien immediately kills and then imitates the crew's physicist, a man named Connant; with some 90 pounds of its matter left over, it tries to become a sled dog. The crew discovers the dog-Thing and kills it midway through the transformation process. Pathologist Blair, who had lobbied for thawing the Thing, goes insane with paranoia and guilt, vowing to kill everyone at the base to save mankind; he is isolated within a locked cabin at their outpost. Connant is also isolated as a precaution, and a "rule-of-four" is initiated in which all personnel must remain under the close scrutiny of three others.
The crew realizes that they must isolate their base and therefore disable their airplanes and vehicles, yet they pretend that everything is normal during radio transmissions, to prevent any rescue attempts. The researchers try to figure out who may have been replaced by the alien (simply referred to as the Thing), to destroy the imitations before they can escape and take over the world. The task is found to be almost impossibly difficult when they realize that the Thing is shapeshifting and telepathic, reading minds and projecting thoughts. A sled dog is conditioned by human blood injections (from Copper and Garry) to provide a human-immunity serum test, as in rabbits. The initial test of Connant is inconclusive, as they realize that the test animal received both human and alien blood, meaning that either Doctor Copper or expedition Commander Garry is an alien. Assistant commander McReady takes over and deduces that all the other animals at the station, save the test dog, have already become imitations; all are killed by electrocution and their corpses burned.
Everyone suspects each other by now but must stay together for safety, deciding who will take turns sleeping and standing watch. Tensions mount and some men begin to go mad, thinking that they are already the last human, or wondering if they could know if they were not human any longer. Ultimately, Kinner, the cook, is murdered and accidentally revealed to be a Thing. McReady realizes that even small pieces of the creature will behave as independent organisms. He then uses this fact to test which men have been "converted" by taking blood samples from everyone and dipping a heated wire in the vial of blood. Each man's blood is tested, one at a time, and the donor is immediately killed if his blood recoils from the wire. Fourteen men, including Connant and Garry, are revealed to be Things. The remaining men go to test the isolated Blair, and on the way, see the first albatross of the Antarctic spring flying overhead; they shoot the bird to prevent a Thing from infecting it and flying to civilization.
When they reach Blair's cabin, they discover that he is a Thing. They realize that it has been left to its own devices for a week, coming and going as it pleased, as it is able to squeeze under doors by transforming itself. With the creatures inside the base destroyed, McReady and two others enter the cabin to kill the Thing that was once Blair. McReady forces it out into the snow and destroys it with a blowtorch. Afterwards, the trio discover that the Thing was dangerously close to finishing the construction of a nuclear-powered anti-gravity device that would have allowed it to escape to the outside world."
Everyman (Justin Robinson) "Ian Covey is a doppelganger. A mimic. A shapeshifter. He can replace anyone he wants by becoming a perfect copy; taking the victim’s face, his home, his family. His life. No longer a man, but a hungry void, Ian Covey is a monster. David Tirado is a massive, hideous colony organism, a gestalt entity. The sum of Covey’s discarded parts. A roiling, chaotic patchwork of vast and varied personalities, memories, and physical forms that used to be a man − many men − David Tirado is a monster. Sophie Tirado’s identity has been eroded by the tides of a long relationship, and now the man she gave herself up for has been stolen away and replaced by a mimic. Caught between the Doppelganger and the Gestalt Entity, she will try to save her husband, but there might be nothing left of him. Virtue has a veil, vice a mask, and evil a thousand faces."

Justin Robinson - Morning Pearl (Ambient Rock)
Tumblr media
🕑 1 min / Text: Adrian Release Date: July 28, 2023 I'd love to share a marvelous ambient instrumental track titled 'Morning Pearl' with you today. It was composed by Justin Robinson, a talented artist from Southwest Louisiana who is now based in California. His latest release is simply beautiful, and I really enjoyed the warm and atmospheric layers. I associate so many things with the soothing sounds: a morning walk, inner peace, and meditation. If you like ambient music, you will love 'Morning Pearl' too. Give it a listen! Final thoughts on Partner Track, good, but there is room for improvement if it gets green lit for a second season.
Ingrid & Nick - never was going to work, he was nice and did not deserve to be cheated on but he rushed it, and there was just no spark for me; basically, it’s a he’s perfect, but his not perfect for her sort of situation.
Ingrid not making partner - of fucking course not, someone who has to jump through that many hoops always gets taken for a fucking ride. They were just looking for an opportunity to not give it to her.
Green Crop vs Green Tech - Lemme get this out of the way ‘Z’ was the best male character in the entire show hands fucking down and I look forward to seeing him in the second season.
Rachel & Justin - I liked them, didn’t love them. Rachel was an okay character for me, but I didn’t connect to her as well as I thought I would.
Tyler (& Anthony) - Again I don’t condone cheating but THANK FUCK, Tyler choose to break up with Anthony I was livid during the NY Times scene, like LET THE MAN FUCKING SPEAK. Also good for Tyler for standing up for himself. Btw was I the only one who hoped Todd was secretly gonna be closeted gay cause him and Tyler had crazy chemistry.
Ingrid & Rachel & Tyler - love this friend group, where do I get a friend group like this?
Ingrid & Lina - I would like to see Lina get her shit together next season and maybe finally find her own path?
Ingrid & ‘Z’ - Um endgame anyone? Idk there is something there and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was explored either in the second season or the season’s afterwards.
Dan - Oh fucking Dan, seriously as true to life it was for him to get zero fucking consequences next season he needs to be taken down.
Now the kicker, Murphy & Ingrid, god that ending was painful. I love Dominic Sherwood so throughout the entire show I keep giving Murphy chance after chance and I still think there is potential for him to be the good guy in the end, that final scene still broke my heart. Yes all the characters have done questionable things, I don’t personally think it’s unforgivable but I think Murphy is just too underdeveloped.
I know they were trying to make him “mysterious” but I needed more than two very short conversations alluding to him having had a difficult life. If there is a second season I need them to really flesh him out whether Ingrid forgives him or not. I still stand by Murphy being the least developed character, which is a shame considering I watched the show in part for DS as well as Adren Cho. I also wish we’d gotten more than just a two second flashback two them having sex. All this “history” they have; show us the full flashback scene of how they meet.
Rating 7/10.

The Double (Fyodor Dostoyevski) "In Saint Petersburg, Yakov Petrovich Golyadkin works as a titular councillor (rank 9 in the Table of Ranks established by Peter the Great[3]), a low-level bureaucrat struggling to succeed.
Golyadkin has a formative discussion with his physician, Doctor Rutenspitz, who fears for his sanity and tells him that his behaviour is dangerously antisocial. He prescribes "cheerful company" as the remedy. Golyadkin resolves to try this, and leaves the office. He proceeds to a birthday party for Klara Olsufyevna, the daughter of his office manager. He was uninvited, and a series of faux pas lead to his expulsion from the party. On his way home through a snowstorm, he encounters a man who looks exactly like him, his double. The following two thirds of the novel then deals with their evolving relationship.
At first, Golyadkin and his double are friends, but Golyadkin Jr. proceeds to attempt to take over Sr.'s life, and they become bitter enemies. Because Golyadkin Jr. has all the charm, unctuousness and social skills that Golyadkin Sr. lacks, he is very well-liked among the office colleagues. At the story's conclusion, Golyadkin Sr. begins to see many replicas of himself, has a psychotic break, and is dragged off to an asylum by Doctor Rutenspitz."

My Peak Television Journey *Grand Crew*
I am very disappointed that Grand Crew was canceled. I wasn’t as excited about the second season as I was the first, but that may have more to do with how I watched it than the quality. (I watched the first season out of order, starting in the middle and then binging earlier episodes. I watched the second season in order as it aired. So I had less of the sense of excitement of finding something you almost missed, but would still say all the episodes are good.)
I like getting to see Echo Kellum as a leading man, the hopeless romantic Noah. It felt like he was underused for much of the second season. I loved his “Let’s do it for Sax Daddy” line delivery in the premiere. and where he was at the end of the season was a decent way to wrap the series.
I like getting to see Nicole Byer as I am also someone unlikely to watch Nailed It! She played Noah’s sister Nicky and she and Kellum have great sibling chemistry. One of the scenes that occasionally pops into my head is just them hanging out. and I enjoyed her wild dating life and commitment phobia, as well as seeing her as a real estate agent.
While I wish they had more A plot stories for Kellum’s Noah, I do have to give my respect to Aaron Jennings as Anthony often the series’s second leading man. He and Faith (played by Grasie Mercedes) had a lovely, if short lived romance. I also like how into accounting he was and his party persona of King TUT.
In general Faith could have used more air time. she was written out in the third to last episode of the series (her character moved cross country to open a second location of the wine bar in which the characters hang out) but she also missed other episodes. It left me with the impression that she couldn’t really bring the laughs, even though when she was there she regularly brought the laughs.
Carl Tart played Sherm and was frequently the funniest character on the show. With his endless start up businesses  and most sensitive palate he was always getting me to laugh out loud. I wanted him and Nicky to hook up at some point. A road cut short.
But maybe my favorite character on the show was Wyatt, played by Justin Cunningham. As the only married member of the group, he is something of an eccentric sounding board. (If the series had continued I would hope that his wife, Kristen played by Maya Lynne Robinson, would become a regular part of the ensemble.  I always enjoyed when she showed up.) Proof that marriage only change’s someone so much. An artist/house husband enthusiastic “plant dad” he always had a different perspective that somehow made everything feel more complete. I’m sad to see this ensemble go.

I didn't know until now that Deadline is hosting those exciting behind the scenes episodes where the actors, writers, directors and others members of the artistic team explain how they create the show.
If you loved like me episode 5 Partings, you will really enjoy this bonus.
This time the special guests are for the actors: Morfydd Clark (Galadriel),Charlie Vickers (Halbrand), Cynthia Addai-Robinson (Queen Regent Miriel), Trystan Gravelle (Pharazon), Ema Horvath (Earien), and Leon Wadham (Kemen)
The episode director Wayne Che Yip, writer Justin Doble, and composer Bear McCreary gave too some interviews.
My favorite parts:
When Charlie Vickers and Wayne Yip confirmed that Morfydd Clark and all the actors that played with her in the swords fight scene had done so much stunt rehearsal, when came the day of filming it, they did the entire scene without the help of the stunt actors, which allowed the director to make full shots of Morfydd instead of doing only close ups of her face to hide the fact it's not her.
Leon Wadham is so excited about playing Kemen, his relationship with Eärien and his father Pharazön! He gave a lot of insights about what Kemen thinks and what he wants, that changed my view on the character and his intentions."His" Kemen is more eager initially to follow his father's path and more selfish than i perceived him to be, thus Isildur's decision to save his life instead of running away shocked him: he saw it as something incredibly selfless and heroic.
Ema Horvath brings so many good insights about Eärien's attachment to Nùmenor, how her love for Isildur is linked to the fact that she already lost her mother and can't see her other brother.
Which brings the question: what about her father? Why isn't her relationship with Elendir more developed? They had one scene together long ago (episode 3), in which' their relationship didn't seem good. While he showed a strong support to Isildur's career to the point to force him to enroll in the Sea Guard, he was shocked that she submitted a new application to the Builder's Guild (she hide it from him probably because she feared he would discourage her, he was already convinced the Guild wouldn't reconsider its decision), and shouted at her when she tried to defend her brother. When they left for war, the crowd stopped her from reaching Isildur, which broke her heart, but nothing was showed or said about her feelings about Elendil'sdeparture (unless it was cut).
Everything that Bear McCreary said about the role of music in Tolkien's work and what it meant to him is like poetry (especially the part where he said he was already creating music for the LOTR universe in the back of his mind decades before being hired for the series). He's so attuned to Tolkien's work, so immersed in Howard Shore's soundtracks for the films and in Peter Jackson's adaptations, that contributing to the series is really a dream coming true for him, which explains why he reacts in such powerful and vibrant way to it.
I discovered his work on Battlestar Galactica (2005), the best Sci-Fi show ever made, and to say he fell deeply in love with this show and felt it in his bones wouldn't convey even enough how composing for BSG was intense for him. BSG soundtracks were his greatest work ever. I feel the same level of dedication here and it's moving.
The actors, writer and director are talking a lot also about Galadriel and Halbrand's relationship, so it's a good BTS episode for their fans too.

‘Course no one knew you was running from something. Maybe ‘cause you didn’t rightly know that yourself. But you was afraid. Just a little. Somewhere in the part of your head you didn’t like to dwell for more’n a mite o’time. To them ‘at saw you, you was all n’more what you seemed to be. You was a mask n’ a gun n’ bright deeds in dark hours.
