Laduma Ngxokolo for MAXHOSA AFRICA

Laduma Ngxokolo founded South African knitwear brand MAXHOSA AFRICA in 2012. Ngxokolo became interested in fashion design as a teenager when his mother, also a designer, bought a knitting machine for the home. Ngxokolo remarks this move ‘changed my direction in life forever’.

The two pieces here offer fine examples of the distinctive patterns that run through MAXHOSA, with the confidence of design and craftsmanship dominating the look, emphasizing the Xhosa aesthetic. The black and white shawl, which can be worn in a multitude of styles and shapes, is the first garment that Ngxokolo made to be worn by both men and women. The black and white colourway of the garment brings out the boldness of MAXHOSA design through its inherent focus on the Xhosa patterns, which are reminiscent of Xhosa beadwork. Here, the shawl is paired with red shorts, which was modeled at the 2015 Johannesburg Fashion Week.

Yeess I'm not dead!! I somehow survived the year and during it I kinda realized that social media is quite... exhausting.. so I stepped away from the pressure of constantly having to create stuff for a bit.

I think I can come back now but still need to think how I'm going to change some things around here to make the hobby of posting more fun for me again!

I haven't drawn that much but I have a few things :3 For example my little vampire wasp pilot boy <3 I designed him around 2 years ago for Halloween and drew him this year again

I think it's very interesting to deconstruct just how much value is placed on the human spoken word in our westernized society.

That even when it is pointed out that spoken human language is not the most effective way of communicating with an individual, whenever I post dog button hate posts i get tons of pushback in the most willfully ignorant way. people are SO caught up in making this human spoken language THE way of communicating that it is now impossible, if not incredibly difficult for them to think otherwise.

it is human hubris that insists other creatures should rise to our linguistic level, when it is pretty close to impossible, instead of us, with our large ass brains primed for communicating in many multiple ways and languages kneel down to theirs.

So when i say insisting dogs and/or other animals communicate with human spoken language as their primary form of communicating with us is a HUMAN failure? I mean it.

It does not mean that buttons do not necessarily have fun uses, but do not think this is a success on us, on people, rather than a success on the patience it must take a dog to try its best to communicate and only get heard from when it uses a device and language inherently foreign to it when it has a clear, concise and honest language it already speaks to us.

I had a vivid dream that I flew to some random theater to watch the new episode premiere already, though in reality there aren't even showtimes listed yet on the theater websites. I was one of the first people seated in that classroom-style theater too.

Like, because it was a dream there were of course elements of the episode itself that made me go "what??? Why did Ufotable change it so much???" but also "weeee, new content, this is exciting!" but mostly it was me after the premiere being like, "So I know I just hopped on a plane somewhere to come watch this because of course I would, but I don’t actually know where I am. Hmm. Am I on Shikoku?"

Priorities.

I actually always read new releases from there haha. The only reason I paid this time was cause I’m still waiting on my physical copy and that particular issue wasn’t up for about 2 days (I have 0 patience lol).

But thank you! And for anyone else who wants to read comics but doesn’t know how to find them for free, in my experience that website will pop up if you google “<comic name> <issue number> read online”. They have (I think) every & any comic that isn’t a current current new release (and even those typically get uploaded after at most a few days of the official release date, like op said). It’s a really good source, especially for people who are new to comics who maybe want to start with older runs.
