----------------------------
It was the week before exams and everyone was beginning to cram big time
Everyone was in the common room, every surface covered in textbooks and notes from the semester
Izuku, Ochaco, Iida, Froppy, Ojiro, and Toru  were on the training grounds practicing for the practical exams- Todoroki was studying on the couch
Momo was giving all of Bakusquad (including you) a huge study session that made all of your heads hurt (minus Bakugo- he wouldnt be caught dead studying with a bunch of ‘idiots’)
All of you were exhausted- you had been going at this since 9 in the morning at it was already close to dinner time
Kirishima had his head resting in your lap, you playing with his fire red hair as Momo rambled about Geometry, while Kaminari and Sero tried desperately to take notes as fast as Momo talked
Mina had given up an hour ago and was now standing in front of the fridge
“Ughhhhh”, she whined, “we have no fooooooood.”
“Cmon Mina we got like a hour to dinner you can wait!” Kaminari said while writing like his life depended on it (which it kinda did- he was borderline passing his classes as it was- if he failed these exams he was screwed)
“Oh be quiet Kaminari your the one who eats all the food half the time!” Mina yelled frustrated
When Mina’s hangry- she is HANGRY
“Dont blame this on me- my quirk isnt the one that depends on eating to work!”
“If your trying to imply Im the one who ate all the food then you are completely wrong!” Momo spat out at Kaminari, kinda looking hurt
“Can you all keep it down-Im trying to read,” Todoroki interjected calmly, not even looking up from his book
To be honest, all of you forgot Todorki was even in the room, so it kind of threw you all off
“Hey-why dont me and y/n just go pick up some food! The market’s not too far away” Kirishima sat up, his hair in odd angles from you combing it with your fingers
You knew what he was doing- he had zoned out too, and he just wanted a way to leave the study session, but he was too polite to actually leave it (for Momo’s sake- she got way too excited over study sessions)
You yawned, stretching from sitting for so long- “thatd be nice, Id like to stretch my legs a little.”
Kaminari shrugged, “Sure why not- not like were going anywhere, mind as well get some snacks-”
You started making a list of everything everybody wanted and it was long- Kaminari and Sero were shouting out everything fattening, from Takis to Twinkies to 2 liter sodas, Mina yelled she wanted a bunch of sweets like Pocky, Momo was a little healthier but she wanted more expensive things like sushi, and Kirishima wasnt helping since he wanted to buy everything for everybody
You two started adding up stuff in your head and you knew for sure there was no way you could pay for all this, even if everyone chipped in
You gave Kirishima a look, letting him know that this wasn't going to work- somebody had to help you two out or ask for a little less
He knew you hated to let your friends down, so he smiled, letting you know he had it under control
“Uh, guys, we cant get so much food- this is way too much and we cant buy all this- can we maybe take something off the list?” kirishima asked as Kaminari and Mina began to whine
To your surprise, Todoroki walked over and handed you something. You looked down at it seeing it was a credit card.
You gasped slightly- “No Todoroki we cant take this this is yours-”
“I dont care what you do with it or how much you charge on it,” he said calmly, “as long as it makes you all quiet.”
“Of course- thanks man, we owe you one!” Kirishima smiled, grabbing your hand, pulling you up and shuffling you out the door
“Well you were desperate to leave, huh Kiri?” you kidded as you cuddled closer to him as you both walked to the store
“Anything to spend some alone time with you princess,” he smiled, kissing the top of your head, “Also.... I think my head was starting to hurt from listening to Momo- what even is a Pythagorean theoreom?!”
Oh Kiri you poor baby
You both get to the supermarket and the cute lovey dovey Kirishima disappears
He instantly gets super excited because FOOD
And carts
“Cmon y/n they have kiddie carts!”
“Kirishima no those are for kids!” you laugh, taking the cart from him gently
“Ahhh cmon babe please!!!”
You kiss him on the cheeck- “No Kiri sorry!” (he pouts tho)
You get one of the normal carts and he instantly stands on the back and holds on to the wired basket, forcing you to push him around
You shake your head, smiling, because he looks so cute just standing there having the time of his life as you push him around
“A Thousand Miles” comes over the speakers and you both look at each other with the most shocked but happy faces ever
-30 seconds later-
Your now on the back, Kirishima is pushing your around like a maniac, has knocked you into 3 stands of food already, but you dont care because your both laughing trying to sing the lyrics
“IF I COULD FALL INTO THE SKY” Kirishima practically shouts, holding a can of whip cream like a microphone
“DO YOU THINK TIME COULD PASS ME BY!” you sing after
“BECAUSE I WOULD WALK A THOUSAND MILES JUST TO SEE YOU!” you both shout out, getting some dirty looks from a pair of old ladies at the meat section (which you could care less about)
You both look at each other and just start busting up, Kirishima taking you to the next aisle
You get to the candy section, where Kirishima is still laughing over the old ladies’ glares at you two
You kinda calmed down, going back to the task at hand, picking out all the candies Mina had asked you to get her
He then sees a bag of Life Savers
PLS TELL ME SOMEBODY REMEBERS THIS VINE
“Hey y/n-” he taps your shoulder, giggles barely being contained from him
You turn around, a grinning Kiri holding a bag of Life Savers
“Le-fes Sa-ve-airs”
You roll your eyes, giggling, “Oh my gosh Please Kiri no more vines!”
“Oh calm on vines are so awesome!” he exclaims, putting the bag of candy back in its original space
“Yes but I think we’ve annoyed enough people with our vine references”
“Only two old ladies!”
“Two old ladies that will probably get us kicked out” you laughed, giving him a kiss
“Lets just get the food so we can go back to the dorms- Im getting kind of hungry seeing all this food…”
“Wait, youre hungry?!?” he asks super concerned
“Just a little,” you shrug off, “its no big deal-”
“WAIT HERE” Kirishima practically yells, seemingly not hearing what you said and runs off
You shake your head, knowing your boyfriend too well- he could get impulsive sometimes
You got all the food and was waiting in the checkout line when you spotted Kirishima trying to balance a bunch of small, clear cups in his hands
“Are those--- samples?!” you asked, shocked that he went around the WHOLE store getting all those samples
“Yep!” he says super proud, happy he was helping his girlfriend
“Oh my gosh Kiri I love you, you know that, right?” you exclaim happily, your stomach growling as you began to eat out of one of the cups
KIRISHIMA.exe is BrOkEn
If he knew food would get you so happy he would have brought you WAY more food A LOOOOOOONG time ago
You got to the check out and the price- was- ALOT
You gulped, hoping the rumors of Todoroki being extremely rich were true
And thank the gods they were because you were able to pay for the food no problem
Then you realized- you had 10 bags full of food you had to lug back to the dorms
And it was close to a 15 minute walk
You started picking up bags, already feeling the weight of them after 3
“I got them, don't worry babe!” Kirishima gingerly took the bags from your hands and began to strap them across his arm
‘Wait Kiri no theres alot you can't hold all-”
Kirishima put a kiss on your cheek, instantly making your cheeks warm
“Its okay I can carry them!” He smiled, making your insides all fuzzy
How did you get such a cute boyfriend?
“At least let me hold 2!”
You literally had to claw two bags away from him because he refused to let you hold any because it wasnt “manly” for his girlfriend to have to hold a bunch of heavy bags by herself
The walk back was a breeze, Kirishima seemingly unbothered by the weight and you two both  enjoyed the sunset coming down against the mountains
When you finally got back, all your classmates were there, everyone in their pajamas and on the floor
All the notes and books had been replaced by pillows and blankets and everyone was in their lounge or sleep wear
“Oh hey ya two love birds, you got the food!” Kaminari yelled out happily, wearing pajamas with lightning bolts on them
“Hey Pikachu,” you laughed, “and yes, we got your food,” throwing him a bag of chips (which he devoured instantly like an animal)
“Why is everyone in their pajamas?” Kirishima asked, putting the bags on the kitchen counter
Mina came over and hugged you, so happy you got her snacks as Uraraka made a pillow float in the air
“We all decided were going to hang out and build a huge pillow fort and have a sleepover!” Uraraka exclaimed excitedly, Froppy and Momo helping her place the pillows inside the fort
“Awesome!” Kirishima shouted excitedly, “Cmon, y/n, lets go get changed!”
He grabbed your hand, Kaminari and Sero making whistle sounds at you two as Kirishima pulled you up stairs
You shook your head, a blush coming on your cheeks
“When did they get so interested in us?” you asked, your face turning red from those dumb whistles
“Dont worry about them babe,” Kirishima said soflty, “their just jealous that i have somebody as amazing as you.”
                                                             BONUS
“So,” Ochaco asked, snacking on a cookie, “how were able to pay for all this food?!”
“Yeah, you guys must have spent a fortune,” Tsuyu added
“It was Todoroki,” you explained, “he was nice enough to let us pay for it on his credit card- again Todoroki, thank you for letting us pay for all this!”
Kirishima agreed, his hand wrapped around your waist, “We totally owe you a favor- if you ever need anything, come to us!”
Todoroki nodded in thanks
“Your all welcome”, he replied calmly, “but that credit card wasnt mine-”
“It was my father’s.”
You instantly choke on the soda you were sipping on, Kirishima patting your back to keep you from choking
“Wait-” you gasped out, “We SPENT 500 DOLLARS OF FOOD ON ENDEAVOR’S-PERSONAL-CREDIT CARD?!”
“WHY WOULD EVEN GIVE US THAT CARD IF IT WASN'T EVEN YOURS MAN?!” Kirishima shouts, fear evident in his voice
To say the least, the night just got 10 times more stressful as you and Kirishima were terrified that the #1 Hero was going to come and rip you to shreds for using his money to buy snacks
Requests open!!!!

more than a bodyguard.
Tumblr media
summary ⟶ Ahrin and Yeonji visited Got7 in Seoul to embark on their world tour concert and Mark had things to confess to Ahrin before leaving her for a few months.
timeline ⟶ June 2019
characters : Jung Ahrin (The Bloody Roses), Lee Haejin (The Bloody Roses), Kim Yeonji (The Bloody Roses), Got7
❝ I want you to be more than just being my personal bodyguard. ❞
Tumblr media
"Well, you guys look like you're going on a date."
"Haejin. Stop teasing." Ahrin looked at the other girl, raising an eyebrow, earning a shrug from Haejin as she was watching the leader from the doorway.
"Just admit that you missed Jb already." exposed Yeonji as she walked passed Haejin, earning a slight frown as she turned towards her way.
"Oh yeah? Just admit that you liked Youngjae!" mocked Haejin as she was showing her fist towards Yeonji.
"She does like him, but she won't admit it."
"Same goes for Youngjae."
There stood Nara supporting Hyunji at the other end as they were walking towards their way.
"Yah, why are you up, Hyunji? You're not recovered from—
"I know. But it's boring laying on my bed with no one to talk to." Hyunji slightly glared towards Nara, who innocently looked at her. Haejin could only chuckle, to see them bickering.
After the day of the incident, the girls were given a yellow card from the company as they went by against some of the rules.
But Ahrin and Chaeun were intellectuals, and they managed to talk smoothly with their own company executives.
Some of the girls were being reprimanded by giving Nara, Yeonji and sadly Hyunji on a house arrest.
This wasn't the first time the girls received the yellow card, so usually, the girls would just accept it coolly, being on house arrest for 2 weeks.
But it was the first time for Ahrin to see Yeonji somehow being desperate, pleading with them for something.
"House arrest? But—
"I'm sorry, Ms Kim, but you girls went by the rules, again."
"Please. You have the tracker on me. I'll just be going to the concert. Ahrin will be going with me, you know she doesn't lie regarding this."
"Seeing how desperate you are, this must be important. Okay then. You have my permission."
"Have fun!" Hyunji waved towards Yeonji and Ahrin who was about to exit the house.
"Be careful too!" added Nara.
"And please. Don't do anything stupid," yelled Haejin, as she gave them a playful smirk.
"I'll try," said Yeonji, giving them a small smile, before leaving by closing the main door.
Tumblr media
"House arrest?" Jinyoung repeated what his manager said, folding his arm as he looked bothered. Not just Jinyoung, the other Got7 members too.
"That sounded severe," Youngjae commented, earning a frustrating sigh from Jackson.
"Is that why they didn't reply to their messages?" questioned Mark as he looked at his phone.
It's been weeks after the incident with the sexual harassment case that involves Hyunji, and Mark became very protective of his own female bodyguard.
The other Got7 members too were becoming more protective of their own bodyguards in their own ways.
Mark would always start the conversation with Ahrin, asking her if she had eaten or what she been doing these days and Ahrin would reply to him a few hours later, informing him that she was given tight schedules by her own company.
He trusted Ahrin but she would wordlessly send him her schedule, and Mark's eyes were widened to really see how packed it was. But what made Mark appreciate her more was what she said next.
Ahrin - “I'll try to fit my schedule to guard you, at the same time maybe hang out with you.”
And that message was sent before what he had told his manager, which is that the girls were under house arrest. Mark bit the bottom of his lip, thinking if he should send her a text regarding the issue.
Ahrin. Is it true that you are under house arrest? [sent] - Mark
Mark sighs as he locked his phone, at the same time throwing it on the sofa. The realization hit him as he quickly sat up, looking at his phone.
He felt frustrated, which was weird and that's when it hits him.
I like Ahrin, no. I love her.
"Guys, 10 more minutes and we have to go." informed their manager as he got out of the room, the sound of the door closing.
His thoughts were distracted as he felt a heavyweight beside him, seeing Jinyoung on his phone, typing away. Mark instantly knew who he was talking to.
"Are you trying to text Eunhee?" Mark questioned and Jinyoung quickly turned towards him, putting his phone aside quickly.
"I would be lying if I said no," confessed Jinyoung, earning a small smile from Mark. Jinyoung observed the older one, seeing he looked troubled.
"Hyung, is something wrong?" Jinyoung turned his body towards the older one, earning a soft sigh from Mark.
"I think I love Ahrin." mumbled Mark, and Jinyoung looks at him.
"Well.. I think the others can see that, hyung." commented Jinyoung, earning a slight glare towards the younger one.
"You're not helping, Jinyoung-ah."
Jinyoung can't help but chuckle, seeing the older one turning shy.
"I'm just joking, hyung. But, what are you going to do about it?" questioned Jinyoung at the same time he was curious what Mark would do. Everyone knows that Mark is a chill guy, and well-reserved.
What will I do?
"Hyung, I'm curious too. What do you like about Ahrin?" There was a hint of curiosity in Jinyoung's voice as his eyes focused onto Mark.
"She is very chill, just like me. Polite, hard-working and she cares about others before herself, cute too." mumbled Mark as he smiled to himself, making Jinyoung smile, seeing how the oldest looking happy.
Jinyoung could see that Ahrin would make him happy.
"So hyung, what are you going to do?" Jinyoung asked again, but this time, his tone was a bit different, earning Mark's attention as he turned towards him, with a slight smirk.
As for Ahrin, it was weird for her.
She has seen dead bodies, solved bloody and disturbing cases, yet she didn't feel anxious.
But apparently, for Ahrin, she was more nervous about attending a concert that her partner had. Ahrin was looking at the stage in awe, seeing how wide it is, since it was the first time for her.
"Geez Ahrin, speaking of wanting to surprise them. Look at where we are sitting." Yeonji muttered as they took their seats.
The 2 girls wanted to surprise them after they finished the concert.
Yeonji thought they would be sitting at the back, or maybe somewhere that the members won't be seeing them, but it's exactly the opposite.
Their seats were near the stage, and unfortunately, they were in the second row from the front seats.
"Well, I'm sorry, I got the tickets from their manager, and it's free anyway. Quit complaining." nagged Ahrin, hearing a sigh from Yeonji.
"Is that why you asked me to wear something different from my daily looks so that they won't recognize us?" asked Yeonji as she turned towards Ahrin, as the leader slightly shrugged.
"Maybe," mumbled Ahrin and Yeonji looked at her with a small smile. She knows that the leader was nervous.
Soon, more and more fans began to fill up the arena and as the clock struck the exact timing of what the actual concert started, the lights suddenly went off and the stage lights suddenly turned on, slowly seeing 7 shadows appearing on the stage.
Tumblr media
There was a moment that got both Ahrin and Yeonji tense, which is when the members were walking around separately.
7 members walking passed them, 7 times or more - that they felt like just hiding away.
They didn't know that in the middle of the concert the members would be given the moment to just walk around, interacting with the fans.
There was a moment when Mark and Jackson were walking towards Ahrin's direction, being their goofy side, and if it's like destined, Mark somehow gazed towards where the 2 girls were sitting.
Both Yeonji and Ahrin looked towards the other direction, and the girls could see them from the corner of their eyes, seeing the 2 members getting closer.
The shouting of excited fans didn't help at all.
But Ahrin thanked God that the 2 of them walked past them, breathing a sigh of relief from Ahrin and Yeonji.
The other tense moment is when Youngjae was having a tour around the stage arena, making eye contact with each one of the fans, in different areas of the seats.
Yeonji cursed to herself as Youngjae was literally standing in front, directly towards her area, making eye contact with the fans starting from the back row, while singing his hearts out.
Feeling his eye contact getting nearer to her seat area, Yeonji along with Ahrin, tried to lowkey look downwards, avoiding eye contact with him.
At the same time, they were enjoying the concert too not knowing it ended as the 7 boys bowed towards the fans.
There was a feeling of happiness seeing how elated the boys looked. They really adore their fans.
But sadly, there was always that 1% who would just go extreme for the boys, like stalking them till they have to move out and stuffs.
"Ahrin-ah, that's our cue." Yeonji tucked onto Ahrin's arm, as she deep into her own thoughts then looking at Yeonji who was about to stand up, as the leader followed the younger one.
The 2 girls went towards the backstage, looking around so that they wouldn't get caught by the fans as they quickly showed their VIP pass and also their ID cards, just in case, towards the staff.
They ran their way through the hallways, already seeing their manager standing near the waiting room, hurrying them to go into the room.
"They are on the way here. Also, Chaeun and Eunhee came by here to pass the packed food." Their manager pointed towards the table.
"They came here?" Yeonji repeated, and the manager nodded, showing his phone towards the 2 girls, a picture of the 2 girls and him, smiling widely while showing the banner.
"Cute." Ahrin raised an eyebrow towards him, as the manager blushed.
"I have to go. They are probably nearing the hallway." With that, the manager excused himself, closing the door of the waiting room.
The girls quickly went towards the table. Looking inside the bag, it looks like Got7 will be having a feast.
"Well, it looks delicious," commented Yeonji, and Ahrin was looking for something.
"Where is the chop—
Ahrin was cut off by the door opening abruptly, followed by loud voices, guessing who it was. Both of them turned towards the door in unison.
The first one to end the room was Yugyeom, followed by the others.
"Noona!" Yugyeom yelled excitedly, earning the attention of the other Got7 members.
"Ahrin-ah! Yeonji-ah!" Jackson came running toward them and the girls had their eyes widen, as Jackson was giving them a big tight hug, feeling how sticky he was.
Mark suddenly stood frozen, seeing his crush, standing there, laughing while giving side-hugs to his other members.
Her eyes then fell towards Mark, as she smiled at him, waving slightly towards him.
"Hyung! Come say hi to your bodyguard!" Yugyeom called out, gesturing for him to come. Mark quietly walked towards her, avoiding her eye-contact.
"We were told that Chaeun and Eunhee dropped by to give us food." Jaebeom voiced out, smiling sheepishly and Yeonji showed the bag she was carrying.
At the same time, Youngjae's eyes fell towards the banners that the 2 girls were carrying.
"Wait, did you watch our concert?" Youngjae questioned as he looked towards Yeonji.
"Yup. Ahrin and I watch the whole thing." Yeonji smiled towards Youngjae, and somehow, he felt proud.
"Did you buy your own tickets?" added Jinyoung, and the girls shake their heads as the answer.
"We got free tickets from your manager. We got the front seats s—
"Front seats in the second row?" Mark cuts her off, making the 2 girls turn towards him. Yeonji slightly looked towards Ahrin.
"You saw us?" asked Ahrin, and the members were clearly confused.
"I didn't see them at all," admitted Youngjae, earning a few nods from the other members.
"Wow hyung, you have sharp eyes." teased Jackson, then giving a wink towards Ahrin as she can't help but shake her head, at the same time Mark started to feel shy.
Jinyoung somehow nudged onto Mark's arm, giving him a few looks. It was a perfect moment for him to talk to her.
With the help of Jinyoung, he guided the other members to start eating, to distract them from stealing Ahrin from Mark.
Ahrin was about to walk towards Yeonji to help distribute the food when she felt her wrist being gripped. Her eyes traveled towards Mark, as he somehow looked bothered.
"Can we talk?" Mark's voice was weirdly quiet and with a smile, Ahrin nodded.
"Yeah sure—
"Privately, I mean."
Tumblr media
Ahrin was frowning all the way as Mark grabbed her hand, leading her out of the room as they were brought towards the hallway, far from people and of course the staff.
"Mark, what's going on?" Ahrin already sounded worried, seeing Mark acting weird, ever since he saw her in the room.
Is he mad because I didn't reply to him?
"I'm sorry if I didn't reply to your message. It was meant to be surprised, I didn't--
"No. Please, don't apologize. I know." Mark cuts her off, smiling a little as his gaze went towards her.
Ahrin tilted her head a little, still confused. She couldn't read Mark's expression at all. He was avoiding eye contact.
"We will be starting our world tour soon, so... we will be away for a few months.." Mark said softly, as he was fiddling with his fingers, his eyes towards the floor.
Ahrin frowns a little, as she was trying to puzzle his words together while trying to read him. Mark suddenly closed his eyes, already made up his mind.
"Mark—
Ahrin was being cut off by Mark taking a step forward, and they were just inches away. There was something different by the way Mark was looking at her. His eyes were intensely locked with hers, making Ahrin gulp in nervousness.
"Mark. I think you're standing too close," mumbled Ahrin, and Mark can't help but to silently let out a small smile, thinking maybe he was taking it too far, afraid that Ahrin might feel uncomfortable so he took a step back.
"I-I want you to be more than just being my personal bodyguard," Mark mumbled his words softly, but Ahrin managed to catch his words.
Being the clueless Ahrin, she tilts her head while folding her arms.
"We are friends. Best friends, my savior. That's what you said to me, right?" quoted Ahrin, as she remembered the conversation they had through text.
That is when Mark started to realize, his bodyguard didn't get what he meant.
"Ahrin-ah, I like yo— no - love you!" Mark confessed, his eyes went wide as his hands were in the air as if he was saying something interesting, and that's when Ahrin started to really puzzle everything.
From the 'good morning' texts, the 'goodnight' texts, 'have you eaten?' texts, 'please don't starve yourself' text, 'please don't skip breakfast' texts, 'take care of yourself' texts, 'when are you coming over?' texts and to the random 2 AM texts.
Fuck, why the heck didn't I realize that? Oh god.
"I want you to be more than just being my personal bodyguard, Ahrin. I've loved you ever since I got to know you - and even if you don't feel the same, I'm willing to accept it." Mark confessed and Ahrin didn't even realize that Mark had grabbed her hands, holding it tightly.
He was about to let go when Ahrin held onto his, earning Mark's attention, his eyes landed onto hers quickly.
"Who said - I don't feel the same way?" mumbled Ahrin, her gaze fell onto their hands as her eyes moved towards Mark.
He let go of her hands, as he cupped onto Ahrin's cheeks. She could see Mark's eyes basically capture all of Ahrin's features.
"So that means.." Mark trailed off and Ahrin realized he didn't say her words.
"I like you too, silly. Ever since from the start." Ahrin shyly confessed and Mark couldn't express how happy he was.
Couldn't control himself, Mark engulfed Ahrin into a hug, feeling him wrapping his arms around her body.
"Yeah! Get it Mark hyu—
Mark quickly let go of Ahrin, turning towards her with wide eyes.
Both of them looked towards where the voice comes from basically to see his other members plus Yeonji, basically huddling at the corner of the hallway.
One of them, Bambam who was being caught by his voice, made eye contact with Mark as he saw the fire in his eyes, guessing the older one will attack him, ran away from the scene followed by the other members.
"As soon as we step in, they are going to tease the hell out of me." Mark commented sarcastically, his eyes traveled towards Ahrin.
Holding his hand, Ahrin tightened his grip a little.
"Don't worry, I got your back." Ahrin winked, and Mark shyly chuckled to see how cute she is.
Finally, she's mine.

Once Upon A Time In The West
disclaimer: this is so heavily hc based it’s unreal. This will all be canon for my Jesse unless you request otherwise during out RP, or if we’re already RPing something different. Also: yes- I am this horribly cliche (you’ll see what I mean). Yes- I did have to make him suffer this much (trust me, some drafts were even worse). And yes- I have spent far too much time thinking about this man. There IS a tl;dr at the end, don’t worry!
if you are at all concerned by the tags, feel free to message me and I can either give you a better heads up on what they’re for or give you a summary with those parts taken out!
The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
In the year 2034, before the Omnic Crisis began, the American government replaced social security numbers with social security chips. The idea was a simple one: if people had their personal ID number implanted on a chip at birth, then identification would never be a problem again. No more unnamed bodies, no forging identities with fake cards, no codes or pins or keys needed to unlock high security features. Everything the government needed to know about everyone was in their chip.
Jesse was never given one.
His parents were repeat offenders for drug addiction, and going to the hospital for a delivery while high would have landed them another strike. So Jesse was born at home, never went to the hospital, and thus never received a SSC.
The back roads of Santa Fe were Jesse’s playground. He was allowed to roam, doing as he pleased, so long as he never let adults question him. Naturally, this means he didn’t talk to many people as a small, dirty child who spoke a broken mix of English and Spanish running around on their own worried most adults.
However, there was one woman just a few streets over, one Ms. McCree, who Jesse adored. For meals, instead of returning home where’d have to scavenge for scraps, he knocked on her door and offered whatever treasures he’d found that day in exchange for food. It was Ms. McCree who introduced Jesse to Westerns and encouraged his love of them.
The one thing Jesse did get from his parents were his survival skills. They knew how to sneak and steal, how to bribe or charm others into giving them just enough to get by, and ( most importantly ) how to shoot. Jesse was a natural at aiming, and his love of westerns only pushed him to practice until he was a crack shot.
Alias Jesse James
As rough as things were, they quickly got worse. Jesse’s mother grew sick, deteriorating so quickly that there was no time for her to get treatment. After she passed, Jesse’s father lost what little control he had. His drinking grew to be as bad as his drug addiction. Instead of shooting for a hobby, Jesse began to consider it for self-defense. For a while, it was enough to throw things and hide. If he couldn’t find a good spot outdoors, Ms. McCree’s house was always open to him.
It only took a year before his father borrowed money from the wrong people. The Deadlock Gang had been around since before the Omnic Crisis, but during the war is when they really took off. Now, they had near sole control of the Four Corners and their reach was spreading.
When Jesse was eleven, Deadlock stormed their house. His father was as inebriated as always, so Jesse took matters into his own hands. Recklessly cocky in the way only a child who’d raised himself on too many westerns could be, Jesse grabbed his gun and squared off against the intruders.
Every member was at least ten years older and twice as heavy as the kid. They didn’t take Jesse as a threat, but one member noticed the steady way Jesse held his gun, even if he had poor form. After commenting on this, Jesse’s dad jumped on the opportunity.
With a mix of confusion and anger, Jesse listened as his dad charmed the ringleader. His father had explained his lack of a chip, how he could slip into places without setting off any of their alarms because of it, how no one would suspect a kid if they did see him, how Jess was already skilled at doing this. An agreement was reached, and in the end Jesse had more or less been sold off to Deadlock to repay the debts.
Jesse, having avoided his parents as much as possible growing up, never learned his last name. So when Winchester, the current leader of Deadlock, asked for his name upon arrival, Jesse confidently declared himself “Jesse James”.
The Wild Bunch
Working with Deadlock taught Jesse many things very, very quickly. Despite his usefulness, no one was willing to go out of their way to help him. Jesse had to keep up or get left behind. As good a shot as he’d been before, being placed in situations where he either shot or got shot made him better.
They used him for everything from stealing to carrying messages to smuggling at the start. Once Winchester realized how much more he could do, Jesse suddenly became their ‘secret weapon’. He was sent on jobs as their sharpshooter. Sent to deals as the negotiator. Sent to contacts as the charmer. If Winchester needed it done, Jesse was his man.
The first time he killed a man he was fourteen.
It wasn’t for Deadlock, not really. Jesse had done his best to take people down but not out with his bullets, much to the ire of the gang. It did benefit them in the end, though, which meant Jesse didn’t have to reveal the real reason for his first fatal shot.
During a face off with a rival gang, Jesse found a young kid trying to sneak away in all the chaos. They were younger than he’d been at first, and it infuriated him to see someone else treated that way. To be forced to work for a gang to survive as a kid. Winchester had clearly said to kill anyone they saw, but Jesse refused to even raise his gun at them. Instead, he offered his assistance in getting them out. Just as they were almost in the clear, a member of the other gang showed up. Jesse didn’t even have to think about it before he shot the man square in the forehead.
The kid got away... and Jesse became a killer.
After that, it got easier and easier to kill. Winchester was always pleased with the results and Jesse had so many nightmares there wasn’t any time left in the night for more. It was shortly after that when he first pulled of a perfect Deadeye, killing six targets within a matter of seconds.
Doing this caused him a massive headache, with the symptoms getting worse if he did it too frequently. However, Deadlock’s Deadeye gained an infamous reputation and helped the gang expand their territory even more.
Once other gangs realized their secret weapon was a scrawny kid, Jesse became an easy target. Deadlock didn’t want to lose him, but they weren’t willing to do much to help him out. During a botched job, Jesse ended up in enemy hands. He was with them for almost a week, getting tortured for information he wasn’t supposed to know. It’d have been so easy for him to give it all up, but he had a strong, misplaced sense of loyalty for his gang. Finally, Deadlock came to save him only because they needed Jesse for another job. Winchester made sure he knew, not wanting the kid to think he was more important than he was.
In the end, Jesse was left with several new scars, PTSD he didn’t understand, and severe disillusionment. At sixteen, he finally stopped waiting for the day Deadlock would fully accept him as one of their own. His naive loyalty was shattered, yet he knew he still needed the gang. He no longer worked to gain their favor, instead doing his job in order to survive.
Hang ‘Em High
When Jesse was seventeen years old, Deadlock had finally grown large enough to catch the interest of Blackwatch. They had progressed from their small territory to all over the States and down into Central America. Now they dealt in nearly every area of smuggling: high grade weapons, drugs, tech, information, people... if someone wanted it moved, they’d do it.
Deadlock hadn’t expected the sting, had never assumed someone would dare to attack them on their own turf, and were vastly under prepared. Jesse had been sent out with a few others to hold the attackers back, while the higher ranking members gathered their supplies and tried to run. Both Jesse and Winchester knew the others who’d been sent along were canon fodder, so Jesse didn’t even blink as they were picked off easily.
Jesse, for his part, was prepared to do whatever it took to survive this encounter. It had been his driving force his entire life, and some unknown gang with a goth aesthetic wasn’t about to change that.
The Overwatch symbol one of them wore on his sleeve was enough, though. Changing his aim slightly, Jesse stopped making head shots and made sure the rest of his hits weren’t lethal. Killing other gangs was nothing, they were criminals and all around awful people, just as bad or worse than Jesse himself. Overwatch, though, was full of heroes. Despite being his enemy, Jesse couldn’t bring himself to kill a hero, someone who was out there doing good in the world, saving innocents from people like himself.
Without Jesse’s shooting to keep Blackwatch stalled, Deadlock wasn’t able to get away. Before anyone knew it, most of Deadlock was either dead or captured, with only a few managing to slip away. Jesse had played up his age, played up the innocent look he knew he could fake, and got himself caught instead of killed.
Man Without A Star
Jesse was kept in lock up for roughly 30 hours before being dragged into an interrogation room. The first agent treated him with kid gloves, which irritated Jesse enough that he immediately dropped the act. Only one person had ever been allowed to talk to him like a child, and that was before he’d been forced to grow up.
The first agent walked out in frustration, yelling how Jesse wasn’t a ‘kid in the wrong place at the wrong time’ after all as the door shut behind him. Proud, Jesse promised himself he’d kick the second agent out even faster. This time, the man left after ten minutes with a bloody nose. He’d gone for the bad cop role, getting up close to yell in Jesse’s face, and had gotten headbutted for his efforts.
The third man that walked through the doors didn’t just change the game, he ended it entirely. Gabriel Reyes was both everything and nothing like Jesse had expected. His mere presence demanded a respect that Jesse didn’t know how to give.
Their conversation was quick, to the point, and heavily one-sided. Jesse wasn’t treated like a child or a criminal. Reyes laid out the facts at first, with no hints giving his thoughts away. Ballistics had come back from Jesse’s gun, revealing much more than Jesse knew was possible. He was linked to several impressive shootouts from the past three years, proving he was the Deadeye they’d had their eyes on. The majority of wounds he landed on the Blackwatch agents weren’t fatal, and based on the perfect head shots from before, it was intentional.
There was no doubt that there was enough evidence to send Jesse to a maximum security prison for the rest of his life, regardless of his age. After all that, when Jesse’s head was down, Reyes made his offer: Blackwatch or prison. Neither sounded great, but a gilded cage was better than a maximum security one.
This time, he gave the name “Jesse McCree”.
The Good Old Boys
The first few years were the hardest. Jesse had rarely slept as much as he should and never ate as much as he needed. Thus, he was all skin and bones with only enough muscle to get by. Reyes became his personal trainer, working Jesse harder than he’d ever worked in his life. The military like routine was awful, but the results came quickly.
Not even a year after joining, Jesse hit a growth spurt, his form finally filling out to match his gangly limbs. While he now had three meals a day, the nightmares still plagued him enough that sleep was rare. Once he was allowed on missions, though, they exhausted him enough that he’d pass out the second debrief was done.
Emotionally, things moved much slower.
Jesse had never trusted anyone else before. The closest he got to caring about anyone had been Ms. McCree, and even then had been it based more on survival than companionship. The concept of team mates and watching someone else’s back were foreign to him. At least once a week, Jesse was given a reprimand for fighting with fellow agents.
Seven months after joining, things hadn’t improved. However, that was when Fareeha Amari came to stay with her mother. She hadn’t heard anything about Jesse before seeing him, but immediately grew attached as he was the only person even close to her age. The twelve year old girl managed to do what no else had, and gained Jesse’s trust and friendship.
Thanks for her efforts, it wasn’t long before Jesse’s trust extended to the entire Strike Team. None of them became as important to him as Ana or Gabe, though. Once he opened up to them, Jesse trailed after the pair like a puppy. While Ana became his greatest mentor, Gabe eventually grew to be more like a father figure.
At first, he hated everyone who wore the blue of Overwatch, but especially Jack Morrison. On the surface, he was the perfect poster boy, a shining example of the law. He seemed to be an amalgamation of everything Jesse hated about authority. It was only after he grew to trust Gabe and Ana, who in turn trusted Jack, that he began to change his mind. They got off to a rough start, with him often seeing just how far he could push before he got in trouble. But, eventually, Jack became another person Jesse considered family.
True Grit
By the time Jesse was twenty-six, he had improved enough to be one of Blackwatch’s best agents. It was around then that Talon grew more powerful, and soon began to directly attack Overwatch. On a mission to take them out, the Second-in-Command was killed while saving his team. Following the loss, Gabe promoted Jesse to take his place, stating he had been next in line for a while and this was just a bit sooner than planned.
When Genji Shimada joined their ranks, a part of Jesse assumed he’d be able to reach past his walls like Fareeha had done for him before. As a result, Genji ended up shoehorned into being Jesse’s partner, as it turned out they worked perfectly together. While Genji never grew past his hate during his time in Blackwatch, Jesse still formed a deep attachment to the man. In his mind, he’d care enough about their friendship for the both of them, and that’d be fine.
Good things never last forever, and while Blackwatch wasn’t exactly good, they sure weren’t as bad as Talon. But somehow, despite their best efforts, Talon managed to infiltrate Blackwatch right under their noses. Important files went missing, agents disappeared, missions went wrong.
Things really came to a head the last three years of Overwatch’s existence. Blackwatch was exposed, putting them on an indefinite hiatus, which let Talon take the lead in their struggle. Amelié Lacroix was kidnapped and Gerard was murdered in his own bed. Everything was falling apart, to the point Jesse wasn’t sure who he could trust anymore.
The final straw was Ana’s death. Jesse only lasted another three weeks after the mission before he realized he couldn’t take it anymore. Fareeha had left for the military, Genji had left for peace, Angela was working at Oasis most of the time, and Gabe was just as distrustful as Jesse himself. The only person he had left had been Ana.
So, with his mind made up, Jesse left an informal resignation letter (that was closer to an apology) on Gabe’s desk before sneaking out one day. Jesse was thirty years old, not formally recognized as a person as Blackwatch had never created a birth certificate for him, and had no plans.
Three months later, Watchpoint: Zürich blew up, killing the rest of the closest thing he’d ever had to a family.
Lonely Are The Brave
Falling back on the survival instincts that got him through his early childhood, Jesse traveled the world as an outlaw. No one could trace who placed the first bounty on his head, but his gut told him Talon managed it somehow. After that, the price kept racking up.
There were some things he fully deserved the blame for: some robberies, breaking and entering chargers, a few bar fights, a couple assassination jobs... nothing that would amount to $60,000,000 however. Most of the time he was used as a scape goat. Governments couldn’t pin crimes on an organization they didn’t know was there, after all.
Jesse spent most of his time investigating Talon. He did research, exchanged favors, raided bases, and questioned agents. Everything he’d learned in Blackwatch was put to use, though it was much slower without a team to provide support. However, following Talon around meant he was usually in the wrong place at the wrong time, making him an easy target for the law.
Just after the news of the explosion reached him was the worst. In order to cope with the loss, he drank himself into a stupor, loosing several weeks to a blackout binge. For the next month he was in and out of lucidity, staying mostly sober just long enough to get to a new town before drinking some more. Without meaning to, he made his way back to his roots in New Mexico.
It was there that Jesse stumbled across the ruins of Deadlock, working to rebuild themselves to their former glory. Not caring if he made it to the next day or not, Jesse charged in with gun blazing. It’s no surprise that he was overpowered and caught.
After several days of torture, Jesse was visited by none other than Winchester himself. Since the Blackwatch sting he’d been working to rebuild his gang, refusing to go down without more of a fight. After seeing Jesse on the news when Blackwatch was exposed, he realized their Deadeye had turned traitor.
Traitors, he said, didn’t deserve to wear the mark of those they betrayed.
Deep in Deadlock Gorge, where no one could hear his screams, Winchester used a power saw to remove the arm with the Deadlock tattoo that Jesse had gotten as a teenager. After, they dumped him out in the gorge, leaving him to his fate and assuming he’d never make it.
But Jesse, at his core, is a survivor. He managed to get himself to one of his old Blackwatch contacts, a back alley doctor in New Mexico, who patched him up enough that he’d live. After that, he cashed in a few favors down in Dorado to get a prosthetic arm. It wasn’t the sleekest, but it did what he needed it to. And for a bit of petty payback, he had a skull grafted on the forearm.
High Noon
Six years of being on the run had pulled Jesse back into his shell. The few people he would still consider trusting were lost to the wind, none of them having been contacted since before he left Blackwatch. He had contacts, those who owed him favors, and those who paid him for jobs, but no allies. No friends.
However, despite himself, Jesse missed his found family. So he kept the old Blackwatch communicator, though he never expected to use it.
The drinking problem he’d gotten rid of in Blackwatch had come back with a vengeance. Jesse wandered the world mostly aimless, wanting to take out Talon while also not caring if they took him out first. He was only alive due to a mix of stubborn pride and sheer dumb luck. It was only in the heat of the a showdown that he’d decide someone wasn’t worthy to take him out, that they needed to be put in their place. His will to live was weak, but his willingness to give up was entirely nonexistent.
Then he received Winston’s Recall notice. The video was inspiring on it’s own, but the sight of an old friend meant more to him. Because it had been Winston, instead of some nobody agent he didn’t know, Jesse actually considered responding. He spent three days thinking about it before making up his mind.
Talon had infiltrated Overwatch once, and while he wanted to trust Winston, trust anyone else who responded to the Recall, he wouldn’t allow himself to be a part of that again. His job was to stop Talon, and no matter how long it took on his own, he was determined to do it. If, after he’d dealt with the terrorists, Overwatch was still around, he’d reconsider.
But... if they both had the same goal of stopping Talon, well. He wouldn’t hate it if they happened to run into each other while chasing down the same bad guy.
TL;DR
Jesse grew up in Santa Fe with drug addicted, neglectful parents. His mother died when he was young, driving his father to alcoholism and abuse. After borrowing money from the Deadlock Gang, and being unable to pay it back, his father sold Jesse to Deadlock at age eleven. At fourteen he made his first kill in order to save another kid trying to escape from a rival gang. Blackwatch took down Deadlock when he was seventeen, and his skill interested Reyes enough to offer him a job. Blackwatch whipped him into shape and also managed to help him open up emotionally... at least until Talon managed to infiltrate and tear Overwatch down from the inside. When he was twenty-six he was promoted to Second-in-Command of Blackwatch. Ana’s death was the final straw that made him leave at age thirty. Shortly after that, Deadlock caught him and cut off his arm, causing him to get a prosthetic. Jesse refused to answer the Recall notice, but is going to continue fighting Talon on his own.
