I don’t get why people argue it’s problematic to assign gender roles to a same sex couple like isn’t the show engaging with loads of problematic issues?? For better or worse it’s what the show is about. Marrying a powerful wealthy man who promises you everything your hearts desires in order to escape your dissatisfaction only to find he’s a controlling monster. I mean how else are we meant to watch this show without the gender lens! It’s impossible to engage with this show w/o it.
yes! well i understand the idea in principle which is like. generally the attempt to assign gender roles to a same sex couple comes from straight people trying to comprehend a break in the myth of universal heterosexuality in which they are invested. So in that sense yes that's a reductive and inaccurate framework to coerce people into. But that's not what's going on here! the depiction of something and the discussion of it is not the endorsement of it and to treat it as such--to write a world where race class and gender have no bearings on people's existence or behavior--is actively harmful. Like this anon that got sent to a different blog
Tumblr media Tumblr media
first of all i dont think either of them are gender nonconforming in terms of presentation LOL (Edit: except for louis in dubai) second of all i don't think anyone talking about for example louis reading edward carpenter in the wake of severe domestic assault is being like i love gender roles and domestic assault lmfao. and thirdly it's not "swapping out" it's what's depicted in the show. but to explain myself in depth anyways 💀:
i think this is emblematic of how totally the project of "representation" has neutralized queer politics. & this is why i think movies that came out under the hays code often have more interesting and nuanced gay characters than movies that came out for decades after. because after it was legal to depict gay people on screen well there's still the amount of homophobic jokes but like putting that aside. "positive" representation is about marketing. it is a reactionary politics that centers on reifying social categories as intrinsic to people's selves and making us think that celebrating those categories is liberation when really it's about creating another market. the rare "respectable" depictions of gay people emphasized assimilation into society ("we're just like you!") and demanded morally upstanding, universalized characters which are fundamentally uninteresting. the earlier hays code depictions (like the children's hour or rope) aren't about representation because they legally couldn't be. instead if they include queer material it is because there is a genuine thematic interest. so often this is very homophobic but also often it involves a real criticism of normative structures.
what i really appreciate about iwtv is that the writers are obviously not interested in presenting a generalized "correct" (and marketable) representation of what gay people are like. because that doesn't exist--the idea that it exists is a trap. and because they have moved beyond what would have been a concern ten years ago, which is the relationship genuinely being interpreted as a message about the evils of homosexuality, and towards an actual thematic engagement. they're interested in telling a complex and engaging story! in the same way, Louis isn't Black so they can say oh we have a Black character who behaves Correctly and proves the racists wrong. the humanity--not the moral perfection--of the characters is already assumed, and therefore not the point. instead we have a story that is concerned with grappling with immortality, trauma, forgiveness--with the core "lie" of vampirism being that it means freedom from the past and the society that made and hurt you. we can understand Louis's deep rooted desire for assimilation and we can see as it plays out how the very premise of the bourgeois nuclear family both conceals and relies on a problematic configuration of power.
there is a real wave of (mostly white) bioessentialist "to be a woman is to be oppressed therefore women are good and men are bad" type rhetoric which serves no one's liberation. and thats emphatically not what i'm trying to get at. i'm not defining womanhood by suffering and i'm not saying louis Is a woman. but i also think it's equally reductive to say the characters are Essentially Gay Men and establish "gay man" as a category somehow discrete and uninfluenced by the heteropatriarchal world. it is reductive to say that gender is absolutely discrete and uninfluenced by social context and the roles we are forced to play. like that too ends up with an essentializing understanding of gender. it's not that abuse in general is feminizing, it's that the abuse in the show is explicitly gendered even as it's in a family with a same sex couple. because the nuclear family is fundamentally a mechanism for the perpetuation of patriarchal abuse. and the show, at least in this season, is explicitly concerned with domesticity and with the inescapability of social roles. And it's criticizing those things. To be clear.

Um Pokemon brainrot came back for the 7299292th time. Lloyd edition
Insane person ramblings below cut^_^
I think there are two major routes you can take when attempting to Pokemonize Lloyd. The first is just making him Colress. They are functionally the same character- similar interests, motivations, and morals. AKA generic mad scientist who wishes to create "the strongest machine/weapon/i dont even know", who doesn't care about the violence or sacrifice, arguably works for the wrong side, and remains friendly to the main characters anyway. Like, there genuinely is not much to expand upon there. Just pop out Colress and snap Lloyd into his place and there you go I guess.
(BTW Colress was one of the first characters I was ever deeply obsessed with as a kid. This does not mean anything)
The second route is trying to replace Lloyd's interests with machines into something canon typical that also reflects his role in the series. Unsubtle way of looking you in the eyes and telling you I want him to be a Pokemon Regional Professor so bad because I said so.
(Colress was my original but the chokehold Professor Sycamore has had on me for over a year now......I am not biased at all umm)
While a Pokemon Professor is probably a littleee too goody two shoes and social for Lloyd, it is The role that always implies extreme amounts of research in some dedicated niche. Lloyd can exclusively research man-made/object inspired Pokemon or something! Close enough to robots. Either way, the whole plot of the game is that the Professor chooses a small batch of kids, gives them a strong Pokemon to start off, and then tells them to go collect data, while the kids usually end up changing the world instead. Lloyd's whole role in Code Geass is he gives a strong weapon to Suzaku in exchange for him collecting data, and then Suzaku goes and does fuck whatever with it until the planet is fixed I don't know. Literally the same! And honestly, we just deserve a Pokemon Professor who is a bit of an unlikeable freak.
I do not think Lloyd would care about battling much and I do not think he really cares about Pokemon themselves a whole lot either! But their abilities and possibilities would probably interest him similarly to how he is invested in Knightmares. And even if he acts like he doesn't care, he definitely has a little litter of Aron sleeping in his house.
Anyway code geass pokemon crossover is NEVER going to happen but I think it is silly. There an an Alcremie sitting on his table

LoZ - Hylia as a Character
Honestly, I really like the fact that Zelda/Hylia admits, rather openly, in fact, that what she did was wrong. Then, she owns up to it.
They could've gone the route that "this is destiny, you must" or made it seem like something entirely righteous & that the fact that it saves everyone automatically makes it okay, but the writers didn't.
What happened. What Hylia put into place was a necessary evil, but still wrong by its very nature of being a necessary EVIL. She manipulated Link, not because she wanted to, or because she was a bad person, but because it was the ONLY way that she could see things working out for the benefit of as many people involved as possible.
Still doesn't make it right, but it makes it understandable. Which are 2 very different things. And I've seen a lot of people conflating the 2. For whatever reason not realizing that you can understand why someone did something & that that something can still be wrong or morally questionable. And that these are 2 things that can exist at the same time.
Because Zelda said it best, "it was a war." It wasn't like what SS Link had experienced, where he was fighting most enemies one on one & it was really only himself who was in danger at a given moment. There were battles with armies & even the game says that the demons killed without mercy. In situations like that, you might have to do things that compromise your own morals & I just...
It makes Hylia so much more human in a way. She's not like the 3 golden goddesses who you only really interact with individuals who have their names & who may just be people that resemble them. (Minish Cap, Oracle of Seasons, & Oracle of Ages.) SS Zelda actually remembers being Hylia.
Thus meaning that SS Link's interaction with SS Zelda in that scene before putting herself to sleep, was the closest interaction any Link has ever had with an actual higher deity.
You get her actual opinion. Her regrets, her apologies. Seriously, she apologizes repeatedly. While it may be filtered through Zelda, who obviously cares very deeply about Link (yes, I ship zelink here, what of it), as she said, she was both Hylia & Zelda. Specifically, still Link's Zelda.
And I... I can't hate Hylia as a result.
Which causes me to not really understand the Hylia hate that I've seen here & there.
Like, it isn't Hylia's fault that she, Link, & Ganondorf were cursed. That was all The Bringer of Demise & his toddlerish butthurt over losing to not just a mortal, but a mortal teen. He cursed them, not Hylia. And what exactly do people think Hylia could've done?
What were her other options? She wasn't a goddess anymore at the time! And we dont even know the rules regarding the Hyrulean gods! There could be some sort of rule of non-interference or only indirect interference unless you give up your godhood that we don't know about!
And, if she hadn't done something, then think about what could've happened as a result.
According to the information that we currently have, Demise would've taken over & made a wish that we don't even know. Not only that, but he had apparently been killing so many humans that Hylia felt the need to lift pieces of land into the air via nothing but magic to keep Demise away from them! Like putting a toy up too high for a kid to reach.
This suggests that they nearly went extinct!
Also keep in mind that she literally gave up her godhood to keep everyone safe!! That's... that's huge!
Also, I hate that there are fans out there who blame Sky for them being cursed!
Dude just finished a fight with a Daimaō (yōkai general). A battle that involved a LOT of lightning striking the Master Sword, which is known to cause temporary deafness, disorientation, ect.
He likely wasn't even aware that the Bringer of Demise had cursed him & Zelda both.
The only person anyone should be blaming here is Demise.
Though, that does bring into question why Fi didn't notify Link of this fact.

I saw your post about Achilles and Patroclus (the one for the ask game) and it was really interesting, I like the points you made and I enjoyed reading it, but I have a question about Achilles' bloodlust before Patroclus' death: what about what he did to Troilus? This happens before Patroclus' death in most accounts, so Achilles is very brutal with it for someone, who says he prefers to ransom the Trojans rather than kill them.
Yes, Troilus had to die, if the Achaeans wanted to win the war, but his death didn't have to be so brutal. Furthermore, Achilles kills him in a sanctuary (Apollo's temple) with no regard for the consequences, and then throws the kid's head to Hector and a few other of his brothers (there are also even more severe versions about what Achilles did to this kid before and/or after killing him)
And then there's Polyxena, who usually is accompanying Troilus and gets kidnapped (and most likely r*ped) by Achilles after he kills her brother. In some versions she was partially the cause of Achilles' death, setting up his ambush by her brothers in Apollo's temple (which in my opinion seems like her way of avenging Troilus' death).
And then the ghost of Achilles demands her sacrifice (either as revenge to her revenge or because he still wants to have her, or both, 'm not sure), otherwise the Achaeans wouldn't be able to leave Troy.
I'm really curious about your thoughts on what Achilles did to these two.
(The argument about the Iliad characters is never ending and there are tons of different takes and opinions. I'm not trying to pick up an argument, I just want to hear you take on this, maybe what versions of these myths you prefer, why do you think Achilles acted the way he did and how does it fit in his characteristic you wrote previously?)
hellooo yeah so first and foremost obviously due to the nature of mythology it's always going to be kind of impossible to have, like, one unified "version" of a character that brings together every depiction of them throughout history, as you said. i think every storyteller is going to add something to a figure that doesn't necessarily mesh with every other depiction. it's like spiderman. it's for that reason that in that post (i had to go read it again lol i forgot exactly what i said but im pretty sure) i only talked about events that happened in or were referred to in the iliad. i.. clearly.. dont have a very good memory so i could very much be wrong about this but i dont think polyxena is mentioned in the iliad and troilus is only mentioned by name, i don't thiiiiiink the story of his death is relayed? i could be wrong! but yeah all of which is to say if my characterisation of achilles seems inconsistent with other myths, it sometimes might just be because it simply is. i dont try to account for every myth bc i would explode into a shower of snails
that said though i think in this instance we can find a compatibility. my point in that post wasn't that achilles isn't ever bloodthirsty or brutal, only that he shouldn't be defined by his bloodlust. quoting my own post bc again i had to go reread it
it's not that he isn't violent or hasn't killed or that he has reservations about taking lives
it's uncontroversial that he committed a lot of pretty heinous acts and clearly has the capacity for great cruelty and does not really weigh kindness or compassion or charity as a major factor in his decision-making. from my post again
he doesn't fight to kill, he fights to win. that's not hugely different in terms of the outcome, given it is in a war context where defeat and death tend to mean the same thing, but it IS different from a personality and character perspective, because it tells us achilles is at worst indifferent to human life rather than actually being driven by a desire to take it. better? worse? doesn't matter, not my point - just different.
achilles is more than happy to commit atrocities. it doesn't bother him to do so, morally. indifference to human life is sometimes indistinguishable from being outright driven by a desire to kill first and foremost. sometimes it's worse. achilles kind of does what he wants - he enjoys excelling at things - he excels at killing. so, stands to reason he might take a particularly brutal or bloodthirsty action if he feels like it. im putting the rest of this under a cut because it got long again
achilles choosing to ransom lycaon isn't proof that he is a merciful soul. it's just that he isn't at war for the love of making war and ending lives in and of itself. he absolutely does not give a shit about lycaon at all as an individual. if someone doesnt have to die, he might decide to let them go (vs someone who's in this because they love killing and therefore would just kill anyway). or he might kill them. if someone DOES have to die, achilles wouldn't go out of his way to make it a kind end. he might if he feels like it. but he might not. the bottom line is he can be bloodthirsty, but that's not his core driving trait. he's not in this to kill, he's in this to win and to be remembered for it. the killing is incidental (if he wins enough then it doesn't matter if his victims survive or not), so it'll happen or it won't and it doesn't really matter to him. so yeah, a plea for mercy might work on him better than it might work on someone who really actively wants to kill people because maybe he has no particular stake in killing them, which is why ive said he isn't fundamentally driven by bloodlust. but like if achilles thinks it might be fun to kill someone in a brutal way, no voice in his head is gonna be like Whoa there champ! How about not doing that? bc his reasons for not killing aren't ethical concerns, it's just a byproduct of what drives him. this is a fine distinction i know but i think it's important. again im not arguing (and wont ever) that achilles is a good moral figure, it's more just about understanding who he is. the killing isn't his goal hence why hes willing to ransom trojan soldiers moreso than the other greeks but if he DOES kill he's probably also going to do it more brutally than others again because his reasons were never rooted in morality to begin with
basically in terms of how im able to marry my view of achilles not being driven by bloodlust with the fact that he does objectively violent and brutal acts, i think those things are compatible with each other bc he can be bloodthirsty without that being the core driving force of his character and the thing that makeshim what he is. does that make sense? the issue i was railing against specifically w that post was that he tends to be depicted as a guy who just wants to fight kill bite kill blood blood blood and i think he DOES act like that guy but that's not the be all and end all of him. killing is incidental to winning, but he can take it or leave it - what i refer to as the breakdown of achilles' character following patroclus' death is the transition in achilles from "i want to win, and i'll kill to make that happen" to "i want to kill for the sake of killing" it stops being about glory and starts being about destruction and pain

I'm just gonna say this because I am SO done with seeing this shit.
As a trans, enby, demisexual lesbian, I am fucking sick of seeing people hate on huntlow because its "straight"
Like that is such a dumb fucking reason to hate on a perfectly healthy ship. Who cares if its queer or not? It's still a wonderful written ship. And it might not even be straight!
Like I said I'm literally queer myself and I far prefer huntlow over the two cannon queer ships. I don't prefer huntlow because its not queer, and I dont prefer lumity or raeda because they are queer. By that logic every queer person would have to prefer every queer ship in existence over a straight ship, even if the queer ship's rep is done poorly or is straight up offensive. That logic just makes no fucking sense. I've seen people call huntlow shippers queerphobic for preferring huntlow over the cannon queer ships. NEWS FLASH: MANY HUNTLOW SHIPPERS ARE QUEER THEMSELVES. (Including me!)
I prefer huntlow over Lumity and Raeda simply because I think its written the best out of the 3 and simply because Hunter and Willow are my favorite two characters in the show. I just don't care about Eda, Raine, Luz, or Amity NEARLY as much as Hunter and Willow. I'm not saying I don't like these characters or lumity or raeda, I'm just indifferent about them. I fully acknowledge just how well written and important these ships are to queer rep and queer history, and there is literally nothing wrong with them. These ships and characters just don't do it for me the same way Huntlow does. You can just not care about a ship and not have to morally justify your reasoning. I don't care about Lumity or Raeda, yet do you see me trying to aruge those ships are morally wrong? No. You don't. There is literally nothing morally wrong with them. Same thing applies to huntlow. There is literally nothing morally wrong with Huntlow, yet I constantly see people pull shit out of their ass to try and morally justify their reasoning to hate huntlow.
News Flash: You can hate something and not have to morally justify why.
Plus, Huntlow is still amazing rep. It's not queer rep, sure, but we already got two MONUMENTAL queer ships in TOH that have literally made history. Huntlow has a different kind of rep, as it's the best plus sized ship rep I've ever seen. How many times does a boy described as sickly and scrawny fall in love with a plus-sized girl? And how many times does that happen where the plus-sized character doesn't try and diet or gets a "makeover" and loses weight so their love interest will love them more? This kind of rep is so unheard of and it is INCREDIBLY important, especially in a kid's show. I have heard countless stories of plus sized young kids (and adults!) talking about how much this kind of rep means to them. I heard from a person who was told that they would never find love because of their weight, find extreme comfort with huntlow's plus sized rep. This ship could literally save lives with this kind of rep. (Could prevent people from failing into eating disorders, or could help people recover). This rep is SO important for plus-sized people.
Also people who say huntlow gets more attention then Lumity or raeda, I seriously DO NOT know what rock you're living under. Lumity and Raeda are pretty much universally accepted in the fandom as the top 2 ships, while Huntlow has pretty much remained controversial from the very beginning. Sure, now the majority of the fandom supports huntlow, but back in the ASIAS days it was fucking brutal. (I literally almost quit shipping it because of the blacklash on my first huntlow post). And even now, despite it being a minority, there is still a good chunk of people in the fandom who are huntlow antis. Huntlow is NOT getting more attention then Radea or Lumity just because its straight. If anything, Radea and Lumity are MUCH more popular in the fandom then huntlow. Like are you fucking kidding me with this???
Plus we don't even know if this is truly straight! For all we know Hunter or Willow could be bi, pan, omni. It could just be a straight passing relationship, and people aren't less queer for being in straight passing relationships!
So yeah. Go find a legitimate reason to hate on a ship.

Something that really grates on me about a lot of anti-Koma people is the complete lack of empathy for Nagito in regards to his actions from the Dead Room to the Chapter 5 Trial. Treating it as if it's the single most reprehensible thing any culprit has done over the course of the entire series. When it is pretty much the exact same shit that Asahina was pulling in the first game's fourth trial. But with a far less petty motive. We see how the remaining five survivors react when they discover the truth of the NWP in Chapter 6. They are all on the verge of a breakdown as it all starts to become too much for them, and they only narrowly pull themselves back together to initiate the shutdown. Now imagine how they would react if: 1. All those survivors were isolated from each other when they learned the truth. 2. They were not made aware of the fact that their apparent turn to evil wasn't actually voluntary, and that they too are victims. 3. They did not have the three DR1 survivors and AI Chiaki to offer moral support during these revelations. 4. They were not made aware that any person who dies in the simulation will actually be possessed by Junko's AI in the real world. Because those were the circumstances of Nagito learning the "truth" in Chapter 4! His antis get so worked up over his bitchiness towards Hajime and the others, that they refuse to see just how tragic and pitiable the situation really is. What at first seems like a bizarre and vicious betrayal is actually a young man finally having his spirit broken after a life of endless traumas. Becoming so ashamed and disgusted with himself that the only thing he can think of as a small act of penance is to torture himself to death and get his classmates executed for their crimes. While not realizing that he's inadvertently aiding the same Ultimate Despair he's trying to stop. And it pisses me off when it bleeds over into fanfics too, with most of the cast ostracizing him for it. Because come the fuck on. Characters like Teruteru, Fuyuhiko, and Peko really don't much have a leg to stand on with that, considering their actions would have had essentially the same result if the class trials went their way. Me personally I like to think they'd keep a careful watch on him. But also make clear to him that while they don't condone his actions and think he made a terrible mistake, they're not going to condemn him either. Acknowledging that if they'd been in his position, they don't know what they might have been capable of. Considering how his character grew, I like to think Fuyuhiko would be one of the first people to admit that he'd probably have reacted just the way Monokuma wanted him to if he'd been given that special "prize".
YESS this! this right here omg, i love talking about this.
i think it's really easy for people to treat nagito with a total lack of empathy because of just how far removed nagito is from his own humanity. so a lot of people just put the insane label on him and don't take much of a further look at his actions. but the reality is that every action he's taking holds so much meaning and has never not had a well thought out reason. doesn't make them justifiable, but does offer so much more depth into his character than just being "crazy."
also i agree on the aoi part, i really don't get how people hate nagito for chapter 5 but don't say anything about aoi trying to get her classmates killed in the trial. dont get me wrong, thats not me ragging on her, because i adore aoi. its just the inconsistencies in how people treat characters for their actions that bother me. i think people forget just how much of a stressful situation the cast is in. suddenly waking up where you're not supposed to be, missing memories, knowing your friend or you might die at any moment, not to mention the investigations and trials; thats all pretty fucked up.
and like you said, nagito was ENTIRELY on his own when he learned the truth about everything happening. he was already in a lot of mental distress when the killings started, so the whole "truth" would have just completely broken him. he's been so violently traumatized his entire life, literally everything has been taken for him and supposedly he's going to die from his illness soon since there's nothing left for his luck to take. the only thing he's been able to do is cope through his obsession with hope, (and if we remove the obsession with hope and just focus on the fact that they're inside a simulation and caused the world to end, that's already stressful enough. the main cast BARELY coped even with all the help) so when you take that into account AND that he was actively working against the one thing that could never leave him (hope)- that's pretty fucking destroying! the only way for him to not lose the last thing he had, was to commit suicide in the way he did. which he full heartedly believed was for the greater good.
the sheer mental distress you would have to be under to be totally okay with torturing yourself before committing suicide is, KIND OF A LOT lol. also, props to him for coming up with such an elaborate plan despite the stress he was under. i honestly feel like his death was heavily foreshadowed. the entire game he talks about wanting to be a stepping stone for hope and that he's okay with being killed for it. his entire life has all just been one big tragedy too. the way he died, his motives behind it, and goal to become the ultimate hope; it was honestly a great ending for him. but im not gonna go into depth on that because im already probably getting off topic here whoops
but lets talk about his bitch arc for a second (chapter 4.) people blow it SO out of proportion. nagito was an asshole for one afternoon and was bullying hajime because he's angry he's in love with some loser. its just funny to me how some people make it a huge deal and use it to say nagito hates hajime. in chapter 5 before he dies, he literally shows remorse for his actions and barely anyone talks about it!. i can talk about that a bit more on a different post if someone is curious but im trying not to let this get ungodly long lmao
also yes, the way characters in fanon will be overly critical with nagito. while i do believe they were a littleee bit harsh with him in the game (another thing i could rant about but i'll spare you) i really don't think they would hate him after the simulation. on the final trial with junko, they almost let her win. and when they learn about being remnants and they all wake up, i think they would have come to understand nagito at least a LITTLE bit better. literally none of them are inoccent, so they probably came to realize they weren't all that much better than nagito. while we don't really see nagito interact with the other characters much in the danganronpa 3 hope arc; he looks to be on good terms with the rest of the cast. and just judging by how they all agreed to just live for the future and put the past behind them, i do think they would try their best to give nagito a chance, even if they're a bit weirded out by him. also i totally agree with the fuyuhiko bit! i think he's a very reasonable person that understand morally grey areas, so i like to think he was one of the first to start giving nagito a chance.
okay sorry that this was SO long oh my god. i cannot make myself stop talking sometimes, especially if it's nagito related sdhjfbsdfkhjb. but thanks for the ask because i find discussing this stuff super interesting!!! <3

You know im a fool so i may be wrong but i think AtSv is not too big on copaganda, or that's just to copaganda working on me but just , hear me out, ok?
Miles mentioned something about his dad and his uncle trying to get a business started before he decided to be a cop, arguably because Miles was on the way and probably wanted a stable job to provide to his family. This means he didn't consider it his profession until he felt pressured.
While making the toast at the party he mentions how Aaron must be making fun of him for becoming a Captain, deep down he probably makes fun of himself.
When he has this conversation with his dad while being Spiderman, how sergeant mentions "that's why they hate us", i mean it was pretty clear he doesn't like this. Ik ik this could be a feel sympathetic towards poor cops they humans tooo 🥹
Hobie reacting to 'a dead cop' with "yeah, and what of it?" Idk, i dont think that marked him as a tragedy also i jut wanted to include Hobie because i love him.
How one big mayor constant in the Spiderman is a cop dying because spiderman is unable to save them is already avoided 1 time when Miles interferes in Earth 50101 *
Gwen baring her emotions and troubles for her dad helps him make up his mind and drop the force, changing the canon once more*
Miles dad dying in Earth 42 even tho there was not a spiderman to be shaped by this tragedy*
*All three events show us canon can be changed and the dead of a Captain is probably not necessary to shape Spiderman as a hero and this anomalies, like the spot swallowing Earth 50101 are probably just happening because of The Spot.
Idk idk they showing us how Gwen and her dad solve this gives me lots of hope that maybe Miles will have to finally talk to his parents because thats what they were trying to do for most of their scenes but were ultimately denied, i mean Gwen was the most strongly against talking to parents and still faced it head on because her fear of her dad choosing the force over her was overcome by her fear of losing her friend.
And the Spider force/Miguel acting like a cop like institution but being questioned by Gwen "we were supposed to be the good guys" and leaving the doubt lingering???👌👌👌
I like to believe the resolution is Sergeant Morales leaving the force in favor of his family, his son. We've been shown beforehand that's what fractured his family and he doesn't want that to happen again.
im a fool pero se vale soñar, se vale soñar.
Vuelvo en dos años a comerme mis calzones si me equivoqué 🤡
sorry to tell you this but i think the copaganda is indeed getting to you. a cop that felt pressured to get that job is still a cop, a cop who hates their job is still a cop, a cop that makes fun of their job is still a cop, a cop that's """critical""" about their job is... still a cop. a cop's a cop. and fuck all of them. the stuff that you mention can be leading up to something ig but the copaganda is so blatant i don't think that's the case (many people have already made entire posts pointing out these aspects of the film so i'm not gonna go into detail, just look them up). the copaganda's there in the first movie, it's here in the second, i don't think it's going away in the third. i don't think a marvel movie's gonna be the revolutionary anti-cop manifesto people are hoping for. even if somehow they manage to turn it around, this would be a very weird way to go about it. so yes, it is too big on the copaganda

The reason why AO3 doesn't take down problematic content is because the entire purpose of the site is for archival purposes. An archive is meant to house a lot of information, the purpose of an archive is not to promote certain works of art or to determine the ethics/morals of fictional media. They don't censor anything because that's not their job, their job is to just store as much fanfiction as humanly possible.
It's not a publisher, it's just a giant digital filing cabinet.
I'd also like to point out that censorship has historically been used to rewrite history, silence black voices, silence queer voices, silence indigenous voices, silence activists, suppress workers fighting for decent pay, suppress information regarding political corruption, suppress international news coverage, etc. You'd like to think that censorship will be used only to stop bad people from spreading bad messages, but that is never the case.
Obviously AO3 users are overwhelmingly white and somewhat well off. I highly doubt they'd censor anything racist or even most problematic content, best believe people like me who have the audacity to be autistic and black at the same time would get annihilated immediately.
Even if we lived in a magical world where we all agreed that pedophilia is bad and that black people are humans, there's the issue of how they'd even censor the damn sinkhole.
As stupid as it sounds you'd have a better time protecting individuals from creeps by explaining the importance of consent and why pedophilia is wrong. Unironically. I'm deadass serious. This is why ponder sprocket made that video on why zoophilia is bad.
Below i talk abt how censoring digital platforms is lowkey ethically dubious.
Even if Ao3 was to try and censor specific works, it would be near impossible for them to do in an ethical way. Something i dont see people talk about in this conversation is that if there's censorship on a site someone has to read all of that pedophilic, racist, rape fetishizing shit.
You know youtube? They have like thousands of employees in the global south getting paid like 2 dollars an hour to see the most horrific shit known to man. These are VIDEOS mind you, AKA real csam and real gore, with all the viscera a human eye can find, in motion. No counseling, no nothing.
If a site is to actively censor something, it no longer becomes a case of just the weirdos and people with paraphilias actively searching for something and being pushed away by a wider community. The moment that a website starts censoring stuff they have to employ people to go find that shit, people who don't want to see that shit.
And we know for a fact that we can't just use a robot for that crap either, cause we know for a fact that robot censorship doesn't fucking work, because chat gpt employed a bunch of underpaid workers to do the same thing.
Not only does censorship go against the purpose of the website, but honestly with how much fanfiction is being uploaded and stored on that site it would be wildly unethical to make people have to go through all of that crap.
Not to mention - even with all that work put into removing this dangerous content there is STILL a thriving pedo ring on youtube there have been several videos detailing this. Not to mention fetish-farming crap like elsa-gate.
Not saying that makes it useless for youtube, because unlike AO3 youtube has an algorithm which means that youtube promotes specific videos over others. If youtube didn't trawl through the garbage and take it out they could end up promoting something dangerous to someone who didn't want it. With an algorithm there is no choices, only whatever the math sends your way.
And because of that I've been reccomended some disturbing content on youtube about people wanting people like me get killed, which has damaged my health severely. In contrast - I've never found anything disturbing on AO3 because nothing is being shoved in my face. The front page doesnt even show you any fanfiction, you have to search for whatever you're looking for yourself.

16 for the violence asks
16. you cant understand why so many people like this thing
pls dont kill me but like- im not like super into the whole "dad SWK and dad Macaque" thing. like its clear there is some fatherly relationship between wukong and mk, and sort of one with macaque although i believe fanon greatly overstates that relationship.
im chill with it! it has its moments if done right and explored in an interesting way, its just- that doesn't happen. people just are keen to put more characters in a found family into their little nuclear family structure. mei is clearly mk's sister and haha mk has four dads and also sandy is a fun uncle (although if we're being honest with ourselves theyd forget sandy exists) anddd.... you get the picture. im sure youve seen it before but it ends up going past harmless little jokes (although even those can get annoying), and goes more into straight up labeling that as being their exact relationship. Mk sees SWK as his dad and SWK sees him as his son. no nuance to that relationship whatsoever. this is where you get "sibling coded" arguments from. where if someone ships, for example, golden dragon, someone will be in the comments being like "umm... theyre kinda sibling coded so idk why youd ship them....." despite of course sibling coded being a made up term to just try and make people feel bad for shipping something you personally don't like. it's made to imply pro/comship, which is of course implying youre a creep who likes incest. because people these days CANNOT handle someone shipping something they do not personally ship (in all fairness its always been this way, we're just employing new tactics in the ship war recently), but that makes you seem like an ass (bc you are), so you have to make some kind of moral argument as to WHY you think people shouldn't ship it. but of course you can't just say theyre related, because people would immeditely be like "they aren't actually" and you'd look like a total loser (bc you are.) so you come up with this fancy new "sibling coded" term. if you can convince people that this ship you don't like has characters that are BASICALLY related (without the legal or blood bond) then people will actually think YOU'RE right and the shippers are the total weirdos.
ok um. That went into a tangent but you get what i mean right? people putting relationships between characters within a found family into neat little nuclear family boxes commits the great crime of bad media literacy but also is just harmful to people who are doing nothing wrong other than doing something with media you dont like???? ok. Cool.

Just binge-read The Answer in a day and let me say that the plot is fucking insane, how the hell do you people come up with something so intense? Lmao, anyways I love reacting to mc's actions and inner monologue like a bff hearing some tea over a videocall "girl no he stabbed you, dont think about him as a normal person, he isnt one, with him its supposed to be throwing hands on sight for sURVIVAL"
And yet I still managed to get gaslit, girlbossed and gatekept by her relationship with san, tell me why I was here reading chapter 29 and thinking "wow he really is bringing up some red flags now after that fight" and then had to stop myself right there because the very first red flag that man had raised was from the very beginning wheRE HE GREETS HER TO THE CULT *BC HE IS PART OF THE MF CULT*
I CANT BELIEVE I FELL FOR IT, WTF
Anyways, can't wait for more, but take your time lol, I am as excited as everyone else but you are doing this for free and with something this good it's honestly such a service, thanks for all the effort <3 hope you're doing well and hope that you keep writing even after or outside of The Answer because you genuinely do such an amazing job building up descriptions and characters, I am very curious about everything we are yet to see, and I did wanna ask, sorry if you have answered this before, but do you already have an ending planned for the story?
- 👁👁
UM ? I LOVE YOU WAIT LET ME PUT THE OTHER MESSAGES UNDER THE READ MORE AND THEN RESPOND LAKDJF;ALKSDFJ
Just wanted to add that not only do I react like a nosy bff in a call with the mc as I read The Answer, but I also judge the absolute hell out of her choices not as in "this is gonna get you killed" but as in "I would 100% be going tinfoil hat in HJ's ass about the other world ages ago for entertainment alone" I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE CMON Mr Cultist wants me to go from city dwelling college student to hillbilly cult wifey in 2 days? HE TAKES AWAY MY PHONE ONLY TO TELL ME HIS BIBLE FANFIC IS BASED OFF THE SHIFTING REALITIES COMMUNITY? THE ONE THAT WAS BIG ON TIKTOK IN 2021? Be fucking for real, I would, on day 1, sit down in front of him and go "already, so whats up with the other you? You two still chat? Also whats up with his version of Hwa? Is he a petty little shit too? Are they in a questionable fwb situationship too? Do you still get prophecies? If so, why are there so many prints of your walmart bible around? Cause that seems like an awful waste when you will inevitably have to print just as many more with the new updates so wtf" He takes away my entertainment when I have the attention span of a 4 year old? Fine, he is gonna have to entertain *me* now to make up for it, bible study time? More like you are now my social media outlet where I'm gonna rant about my crazy theories, my favorite ships and I will overanalyze each and every plot hole in your bible sir, I don't care that its a prophecy, I want consistency from your writing about the other world, I want detailed descriptions, I want to feel like I am there, how do you expect to win New York's best seller with this vague ass paragraph about your little lost boys crew in trenchcoats? I'm gonna annoy him into killing me and realizing I'm not the one, his stalking time all going down the drain. I consider this an absolute win for me.
Okay I'm so sorry for sending another ask when I just sent two humongous ones lol but I did remember one thing I wanted to ask and I hope it doesn't come off wrong bc I mean nothing bad about it at all but back when HJ was all "I'm only gonna do the devils tango with you when you beg me to uwu" and mc thinks "damn, at least my local cult leader got some consent morals going" I couldn't help but stop myself and wonder: girl. He made out with you. In front of at least 40 people. When you were drugged. Clearly tripping. By his orders. And he stabbed you right after but most importantly he has bragged about making out with you IN FRONT OF A CROWD WHEN YOU WERE TRIPPING BY HIS OWN DESIGN And yknow, my question is: was mc's (continuous) lapse in judgment in this moment to blame for her not realizing he in fact does not give a flying fuck about consent and she just let that slide bc the cult mentality was getting to her (which we do see progress over the story, and its been one of the most interesting parts of the fic btw, I think you did really well with that) or did you not mean for it to be that and I read too much into it? Lol because yeah he is a self admitted and apparently diagnosed psycho but you'd think he would see how this morals he just tried to brag and seduce her with are not moralling at all. Or maybe he just hoped she wouldn't realize his delusional-moral compass isn't gonna point correctly no matter what way he tries, I'm definitely thinking too hard about it at this point lmao HE REALLY IS GETTING INTO MY PARANOID BRAIN, THE MIND GAMES ARE CONSUMING ME FR Anyways, again, sorry for the long asks one right after the other, I'll stop pestering now.
I fucking lied, I'm sending another one to ask if you happen to have any fics to recommend that maybe give off The Answer vibes or that you think may be a good read while we are all on standby bc I just got hit by the withdrawals-after-a-good-fic now that I realized I can't keep reading since I got to the last chapter lol. I'm so sorry. - 👁👁
first of all let me say it again: i love you. thank you so much for reading the answer and for being kind and for wanting to tell me and ask me so many things!! i really, really appreciate it and pls dont feel bad for sending me asks (big or small) bc it just makes me SO happy lol i feel bad that you've been waiting for a response for so long but LKJF:KDJF:AKDF I WILL DO MY BEST TO ADDRESS EVERYTHING so here we go:
I did wanna ask, sorry if you have answered this before, but do you already have an ending planned for the story?
hehe no worries at all!! i do have an ending planned and i know how we will get there, but there are certain elements and plot points that aren't solid yet and could be changed!! but i am set on the ending ^^
the entire second ask is just so valid. like tbh i would absolutely be the same. like id be scared af for a few days but once i realized i wasnt gonna like DIE immediately and that i could get away with annoying hj like at least a little bit id be on his ass. honestly and truly the main reason that i havent written more of like... the answer in the story is bc im too concerned that anything i wrote would be torn apart for analysis when i wouldnt actually be reading that far into it LKJA;SKFDJSD bc like you're right anything that hj would be writing would be very pertinent information TO HIM but like... does it actually mean anything... or is it just words... LOL idk if that makes sense but everytime i try to write like in the style of a religious text with the answer lore it sounds so ridiculous i just cannot take myself seriously enough to do it KLAJKS;DFJASKFD BUT HELP YOU POINTING OUT THE SHIFTING LORE? LITERALLY THE EXACT SYSTEM I STOLE THIS LORE FROM I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING WHEN I STARTED WRITING I WAS JUST LIKE idfk whats something weird that i can connect to the ateez lore that i dont remotely understand AND THATS WHAT I CAME UP WITHALKDSFLA;JDSFJLSKDJ you are real
And yknow, my question is: was mc's (continuous) lapse in judgment in this moment to blame for her not realizing he in fact does not give a flying fuck about consent and she just let that slide bc the cult mentality was getting to her (which we do see progress over the story, and its been one of the most interesting parts of the fic btw, I think you did really well with that) or did you not mean for it to be that and I read too much into it?
eheheeheheheheh i really was waiting for someone to point this one out!!! i definitely meant it to be a lapse in her judgement and like a ...... hmmm idk how to put it like she's selectively forgetting things that don't match with what she WANTS to believe !! like personally i would never in my life write a member of ateez to be a rapist so we obvs won't be worrying about that BUT if this were a real situation, that would probably be a very real fear to have and i figured it would be a good thing to address in case anyone was like. worried about that. LKAJSKFDJASDLFK but yes you're right they're obviously not above MURDER so like. how much credit can we give them. its really just mc wanting desperately to alleviate some of her fear and believe that she is at least a tiny bit safe (even though that is CLEARLY not the case)
if you happen to have any fics to recommend that maybe give off The Answer vibes or that you think may be a good read while we are all on standby
heh this one is tough because ... im not really a fanfic reader LAKJDFKLAJSDFK but my beloved mutuals bee (@atzfilm) and caly (@hongism) are geniuses hehe !! bee writes dark fics that are mwah chefs kiss and caly writes mists of celeste which has a toxic unyielding leader hongjoong. so. you know.
SO YEAH ANYWAYS? THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN FOR THESE ASKS AJDKFALSDKFJSKLDJ AND IM SORRY AGAIN THAT IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO REPLY AND THAT THE UPDATE IS ALSO TAKING FOREVER LOL I HOPE YOU'RE STILL AROUND LAKJDFLKSJDF

i don't mean to be rude to either you at all but i do just want to say gently as a mutual-in-law of both of you who was a fan of atla but who never posted about it and that this blog and the attitude with it is basically the reason who if that makes sense? like i understand it both because a lot of your takes are really good and its clear you both put a lot of effort into them and because there are 100% some awful takes in this fandom (including ones based in bigotry that 100% need to be called out) but something about the "our takes are the only right and correct ones" attitude that come across with this blog (im not even saying either of you have that attitude in just saying its very much the impression you give off) made the idea of being in the fandom and engaging in with this show with my mutuals and the groups they're part of honestly kinda terrifying just because the fear of being judged or having the wrong opinions to the point were its totally turned me away from the show and the idea of enjoying it at all. im not saying this to attack either of you but i do just want to say that at least in my experience the way you present this blog does create a really judgmental attitude and i just wanted to let you know because i dont think its at all helpful for anyone involved and just causes more harm than good. thank you for reading and hopefully listening.
look. i'll say off the bat that it upsets me that there are people whom i've caused pain with the fact that, to some, i give off the impression that im very judgemental and need people to agree with me. i understand that people can take those things more seriously than i mean them, and can feel judged because of it. if you, anon, are expressing this sentiment, it's likely that there are at least a couple other people who feel similarly. and i hate that! i wish that this blog didn't make people scared to make their silly little posts. as im gonna get to in the rest of this answer, i don't know that there's anything i can/should do to stop people from feeling this way, but i wanted to acknowledge it.
one thing that i consistently try to impress upon people, especially when i get the sense that people are (somehow?) developing parasocial relationships with me, is that i am just some guy. i know that's a common statement in this corner of the internet, but i truly, deeply mean it. i think that i have a very good understanding of this tv show that i am quite abnormal about, and im gonna say so. and it's true that on this blog i put on a bit of a persona as if im far cockier than i am irl, or even than i am on my main (which is y'know. related to the fact that, as i said, avatar: the last airbender is indeed a subject i know very well and i can therefore act confident when talking about it). but at the end of the day, i am just a guy. i am a teenager with an internet connection and i often use it to make posts on tumblr dot com. you have no obligation to take me seriously.
there are so many popular posts on this website that essentially say “omg it's so hard being the only person who has good takes on my favorite show :(.” when i reblog those posts, i promise that am self-aware about them (and i assume that most people who reblog them are self-aware about them). this means that i understand that there is not, in fact, any sort of morality tied to one's takes on one's blorbos (unless y'know. said takes are bigoted, as they often are). when i reblog those posts, i am simultaneously saying that i relate to the sentiment expressed (that it greatly annoys me when i see posts about my blorbos that i don't like), and making fun of myself for having such an outsized reaction. no, i do not actually believe that im carrying some great burden by having a good understanding of this show. when i claim that i am, im satirizing myself. because again, im self-aware about how abnormal i am about this show. also, im sorry if it doesn't come across as self-aware, but im personally against the online practice of putting a million disclaimers on joke posts. i think it assumes that people are reading things in bad faith (which they often are to be clear), but i try not to assume that.
the thing is. like i said, i do think i have a very good understanding of this show. and sometimes i'll be annoyed at people, even mutuals, for disagreeing with me. sometimes i'll even dm my friends a post bc the post annoyed me. this is all, imo, normal? like yes, i have stronger opinions than most on this relatively inconsequential topic, but like. it's normal to get annoyed at people you care about sometimes. im not gonna unfollow a mutual just because they annoyed me. im certainly not gonna make a callout post. im sure i annoy my mutuals sometimes. which is.... genuinely fine. as long as we don't cause drama over pointless things and get other people involved, it's fine to cause each other annoyance.
(this is the part where i begin psychoanalyzing you likely more than is warranted).
you say you can be scared to post, so what exactly are you scared of? that your mutuals will think you're wrong? i don't mean to minimize your feelings, but if you don't have incredibly mean mutuals, nothing bad is going to happen because of that. believe me, i really do understand fear of judgement, but the solution isn't to tell virtual strangers to stop having/expressing strong opinions, it's to stop caring as much about those opinions. i get that that can be difficult, but it's important for like. your long-term mental health.
so like. ultimately. there are definitely times when i've been more judgemental than warranted on this blog, but please do not feel scared to share opinions. worst-case scenario is that you annoy people. and also like... i really do love it when people express disagreement with me, as long as they're not saying something that particularly annoys me. sometimes people contradict me and are more correct than me, which is great! maybe this is just because im jewish but. i don't want people to always agree with me. i want for people to think critically, and that includes questioning my takes on things, even if you've (rightfully, imo) decided that i usually have true and insightful things about this show.
anyway this got very long but. anon im sorry that this blog has hurt you in whatever way it has, and i hope this explains the way i think about things better.

Sorry rant incoming but it makes sense to me low-key bc I think she's a performative activist. Like she doesn't actually give a shit about peoples struggles in any meaningful way which is why she made a hoopla about becoming political and then made cookies one time? Or something. If you refuse to be political on the basis imma side eye you but ok bc we shouldn't be looking to celebs for politics. she tries to court progressives without ever doing anything to alienate a conservative fanbase. I don't think she's spoken up about the drag ban when lizzo and Hayley kiyoko have bc I don't think she want to risk alienating that side of the fandom. I think if you asked her point blank her opinions on issues I think her answers would fall in line with a lot of her fanbases morals but I don't see her voluntarily actually making meaningful statements. The never being political thing isn't even accurate bc shes always been political, she spoke up about sexism all the time, the difference is she was advocating for for herself bc she was personally affected.
I don't think I'll ever forget how she decided to sue? Or take down an article pointing out her big white surp. Fanbase instead of just making a statement about.. not wanting white supremacist in her fanbase. It's one think to not denounce republicans and another if you won't even say I don't want proud boys to be my fans lol.
Like I get being non political or the fear of being political because your career would be impacted but not only has she risen above bein negatively impacted by speaking out (other smaller pop stars are doing it) there have been other country artists who have so much more to lose who have protested the ban why wearing drag in their concerts. If she had never "become political" maybe if be less annoyed more just side eye but she centered an entire comeback around supporting queer people (not well imo) and now barely speaks up about issues they face. She used it to rebrand but I dont see her rocking the boat to really denounce all the stuff going on rn drag etc. It's pretty easy to sum up the point in that she made two cottagecore albums and was at the top of that celeb jet list. It's all performative.
Idk I think Taylor's a nice person. I think she's talented and charming and funny and I'm not surprised she has so many people that like her because she does nice things for fans, and friends and is generous in her personal life it's just the nice is different than good. I don't actually care of she's dating him I would prefer her to just be honest and be like I don't give a fuck about being progressive enough to actually take personal risks.
I mean yeah I don’t have a lot to add here because I don’t think you’re wrong. I will say I wish she said more absolutely, but I just know it ain’t gonna be the case and my expectations for pop stars have adjusted dramatically. I definitely agree being nice is different than good and idk how exactly to define it. I will add that LGBT rights is one of the few things she’s been outspoken/clear on, even if it was to promote an album, she’s mentioned it pretty consistently since then. And she has dancers in drag with her on stage during this tour, nb/trans performers, lots of LGBT (or at least lesbian and bi, idk about nb/trans?) openers. Not saying it makes up for anything or trying to paint her as a saint. I don’t think she or anyone else is. But yeah idk. My feelings on her activism (and sometimes lack of it) are complicated.

something i feel a lot of people calll a "flaw " in the story is like when people talk about how unfair it is for akechi to die and its like thats kinda the point?? like yes it is unfair and rotted that he doesn't get a chance at a better live when the PTs then a lot of them direct there anger at atlus for doing akechi dirty
yknow what i mean?
honestly i get what you mean and yes it absolutely is unfair which is kinda why i disagree. killing off characters as a form of "redemption" has been done several times before, and people just love doing it instead of, yknow, just writing a good redemption arc. sadly, a lot of people's views on goro are just "cool backstory still murder" and want to send him to jail if he hadn't died, which—no, i also disagree with that. i still think he has to be held accountable but in very different ways, but thats not the point of this so im moving on lol
anyways, killing goro off just sends a very wrong message to the viewer. its the whole "perfect victim" myth debate thats very much present in his character. and just because atlus portrays the phantom thieves as perfect victims and goro not, doesn't mean thats true. ann was ready to kill kamoshida—akira and ryuji also had the best reason to, and morgana even told her its her choice—they claim that they arent murderers, which is true, but what they're doing is essentially stripping away everything that made a person that person, and the morality of that is.. questionable, especially considering what maruki was doing. at any point, any of them could've turned out exactly like goro, if they hadn't had a support system. i know she isnt a pt but what if shiho had tried to kill kamoshida instead of herself? what if yusuke had snapped and just killed madarame instead after he found out what actually happened to his mother? what if haru was mad at goro partly because he took her chance at killing her father? its just.. interesting stuff to think about.
killing off the most traumatized character after he literally just had a mental breakdown in front of everyone rubs me the wrong way, especially considering how many people relate to goro. maybe atlus just didnt think about that—they seem to not think a LOT of things through—and yes, while the point might've been that its unfair, we already know this, given his entire backstory. why does his life have to be unfair all the time? born as a disgrace to the world, his mother killing herself, thrown into an orphanage and passed from foster family to another just because hes not wanted, and in the end, getting manipulated and groomed into killing people at his father's will just because a bitter, angry teenager didnt know any better and was given powers by god. everything in his life has been unfair. a way stronger plotpoint would've been to save him in the end, even if thats not what he wanted—because he deserves that chance the most, in my opinion at least.
his life has been unfair up to that point. he may be surprised, furious and utterly confused at the phantom thieves saving him after he was ready to die, but now he actually gets a chance to live—and not under anyone's thumb. its not what he planned, but a lot of things dont go that way in his life, eh?

Alright so I don't know if anyone else has already made a post about this or not, but do y'all remember when we split into pieces the last time and a bunch of us decided to be birds?
And those birds decided to take the WORST parts of our discourse that we had already talked through and figured out as a group and let it simmer and fester among them and become irreparably harmful sticking points in queer Fandom?
Yeah uh, some of those bitchy ass birds think they can come back here with their radfem/TERF/SWERF BS and we'll all just welcome them back with open arms. Be diligent. Be vigilant.
I'm going to impart some advice to all of you that I learned while I was a bird watcher.
DO NOT ENGAGE THEM. If they are chirping about harmful shit, DONT EVEN ENGAGE THEM FOR THE "GOTCHA" REPLY. literally JUST BLOCK THEM. Reblogging only spreads the hate.
THEY DONT NEED TO BE EDUCATED. They know they're shitty people. They're trying to find others like them. Don't let them spread out. Report the heinous shit. Block them. Move the fuck on.
IF YOU GET PUT ON SOME KIND OF HATE LIST OR CALLOUT POST for something that seems perfectly "normal" (like being a pro-shipper) scroll the other usernames in that post. See who else is being called out. See what they're being called out for. And BAND TOGETHER. FOLLOW THEM. If you know for a FACT you're getting attacked for something that's literally not an issue, stick together. Follow them. Message them, if you can. Make sure they know they're not alone.
Switch your box to no-anons for a while. Turn off submissions. Turn off messages from non followers for a minute. You might get brigaded.
IF YOU FIND THE INSTIGATOR OF THE HATE CAMPAIGN: there are courses of action to take into consideration.
If you are a minor and the instigator is also a minor: report them and block. Use screenshots, links if you can. The safety folks here at Tumblr have traditionally been far more responsive than on other apps. See above steps.
If you are a minor and the instigator is an adult: report, block, and try to find an adult you trust that can talk through this with you. Beware of adults that label themselves as "safe adults" or "Fandom mom/dads" this title has been corrupted in recent years by radical adults who want power over younger, vulnerable minds. See above steps.
If you are an adult and the instigator is a minor: SEE ABOVE POINTS. It is not YOUR DUTY to explain to a CHILD trying to cancel you why you haven't done anything wrong. Put away the older sibling/cousin/parent energy and remind yourself that the kid is not your responsibility. Report, especially if they have posts stating they're underage to be on here, and block. That's it.
If you are an adult and the instigator is also an adult: I can't tell you what to do with any sort of authority, but I can tell you that trying to argue, reason, educate, or counter-harassment just doesn't work. They don't care. They have a cultlike sense of power and think they have moral superiority over you, which is extremely dangerous if they also have a small army of minors that they've spread their bullshit beliefs to. The most hurtful thing you can do to fight back is to just keep playing whack a mole: report, block, repeat. These are extremely angry, spiteful people that don't give a damn who they hurt. They want to control people because of their discomfort with content they deem inappropriate.
For the record, these people have warped the term "proshipper" to mean "someone who is okay with really morally reprehensible, """illegal""", or just serial content of a nature I feel uncomfortable with" and tend to throw around words like lolicon, pedophile, and groomer. They come up with straight up BIZARRE things to fight over that at the end of the day boil down to "I am uncomfortable with sexually or romantically toned content that may or may not have to do with fictional characters that have the slightest potential to be interpreted as underage."
We're talking things like a character being under five foot five. That's supposedly grounds for being considered child like, and then therefore incapable of feeling anything other than warm fuzziness about going to the park or petting a cat. It sounds legitimately nuts, but it is something I have personally witnessed.
Proship literally means "fine with shipping, and against harassing people for what they do in their spare time relating to their favorite fiction" that's it.
Yknow. The opposite of what these people do.
(This is also the part where I point out that most of the attacks and hate go towards people of marginalized societal groups because it's a good way to act on a "universal stigma" to hide the real reason all this is happening: bitchass, convoluted adults that want to be able to prey on kids without people that would stand up to their bullshit getting in the way)
Anyway. I'm sure I'm rambling and maybe no one will see this, but this is something I wanted to pass on as someone who has been fighting a losing battle against a rising tide of youngsters who reject our notions of safe, happy, considerate Fandom and instead want us to cater to their corrupted, conservative leaning views. I've been doing it on tiktok for 3 years and I'm fucking tired. No one listened to me on this there, so I'm hoping folks will understand me better here. I just wanted to warn all of you that not everyone who is moving here (or coming back) has the best intentions.
Uh. Here's a gif. When I was here last, that was customary to end a post with.

I'm the fandom headcanon discourse anon! And yeah I fully agree with your addition!
More thoughts about this: I read a post in the BG3 fandom a couple months ago on how you can pick any voice regardless of your character's genitalia. They said that while it was nice trans inclusivity, it doesn't actually represent the full scope of what trans people sound like. It sort of moved me, and I wish we had more of that in general!
Not to say that trans people can never pass because that's absolutely wrong, but I wish it wasn't so universally treated as the absolute endgoal of being trans. I wish the full spectrum of bodies that comes with being trans or cis was represented in media.
And also that people didn't immediately headcanon characters who fail to very strictly conform to gender roles as "trans people who aren't there just yet" or "trans people who you can clock as trans because they act/look like their agab". It's super uncomfortable. I think there is a lot of worth to be found in respectfully representing early transition trans people/trans people who dont care about passing, but it just feels like fandom spaces are enforcing gender roles instead of supporting that. I don't think it's healthy to have that level of scrutiny over the way people simply exist.
I don't think people stop and think about why they associate thinness, whiteness and youthfulness with femininity both outside and within trans circles. There is this mentality of thinking that as soon as something is lgbtq its absolutely morally pure, and I truly hate it! People should be more critical of things!
But anyway feel free to use those thoughts for your video!!! I wish to remain anonymous but I'm happy I can help you with it.
you are so right anon..!!!
Passing is not the end-goal for many trans people, myself included. It honestly kinda bothers me that the go to compliment for trans people is "you pass so well!" cause like.. unless the person in question was specifically asking if they pass or not or felt like they don't and it bothers them.. it's kinda weird. I've seen so many trans people make posts talking about the fact they don't care about passing or don't want to but people STILL comment "omg but you pass so well!" cause to them passing is the ultimate goal for us and they cannot fathom someone being comfortable and happy in their visible transness.
All trans people deserve to be represented and heard. We're all individuals with different goals and needs for our bodies and identities. Listen to the individual! So many people who know I'm trans for some reason always ask each other things about me instead of just asking ME. And it's just lead to no one understanding who I really am and it's so hard to correct them anymore. It's like a game of telephone.. really does not help I was outed to my entire outer family even though I told the person who did it I wanted to tell them all on my own terms and one at a time so it could be personal. but whatever.
I've had many people in my life comment things like "if you're a boy why do you still wear skirts? why do you carry a purse? why do you have long hair? why do you paint your nails?" etc etc and it made me dysphoric not because those things made me feel that way.. but the fact my identity was questioned purely based on my interests and clothing. Why can't I just say I'm a boy without it being questioned? I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it.
Anyway, sorry got a little personal there but I guess my feelings on this matter are very personal so.. ahem.
And yeah I totally agree with the point of people believing things to be 100% pure and good when it has even a little bit of LGBTQ+ representation in it. It's a huge problem with media literacy I think. There are plenty of extremely bad and problematic medias out there that have queer rep in them but I still see people praise them for purely HAVING queer people in it. Meanwhile god forbid a media have nuance and subtext and coding instead of blatant representation and suddenly its the worst and most problematic thing in history for not saying anything outright..
What makes a trans headcanon offensive or not is down to the context of the character.
For example. Say you have a character who's interests do not align with the traditional things their agab "should" enjoy. They have a big character arc about being their agab while still enjoying these things because their interests don't effect their gender identity at all.. this is a character who is offensive to headcanon as trans.. (atleast when you try to make their gender identity align with their interests instead of the identity they heavily express in the media. like hcing a male character who wears skirts as a transman is fine imo cause it doesn't change his gender identity, which in this case, is very important to him.)
Now this time we have a character who has no arcs relating to gender identity or expression of anything like that. if you headcanon this character as a trans it is 100% okay! There's no gender roles to point to here!! you're just having fun!!
Then we have an ambiguous character, a character who doesn't particularly care about being treated one way or the other and just enjoys what they enjoy which happens to be different than what they are "expected" to like based on their agab. This character is also fine to hc as trans cause obviously their gender identity isn't that important to them.
And finally the most offensive. This character is heavily implied to be a trans already. They express gender problems relating to being trans one way but people read this and somehow cannot fathom that a trans character has ALREADY transitioned (socially and/or medically) and assumes this means the character is a trans the other way. Ignoring all the obvious signs and coding that they are, in fact, very wrong. Because a lot of people these days have no media literacy or reading comprehension. (also works for nonbinary characters where people insist upon them being binary one way or the other which is.. annoying(such as Crona from Soul Eater))
Anyway SORRY I RAMBLED FOR AWHILE LMAO ahem ahem thank you for offering your thoughts for my video on the topic! It's good to get other peoples opinions and thoughts on it cause I don't want it to be one-sided and only from my pov lol I hope everything I said makes sense idk I have a bit of a headache lmao
