i love how many cannibalism comments bad is making now that he has someone (bagi) who actually knows instead of suspects and doesnt care too much. shes against it with cellbit bc she knows its a sign of his mental decline, but its been acknowledged that bads just kinda Like That so it gets a sort-of pass. the inherent comedy of seeing a corpse and going 'ooooh that should store nicely for a snack later!' and having someone else say 'its already rotted leave it be. anyways-' with only mild disgust and a general air of Tired. masterful.

Is that canon!?! Was Machete just really naive/didn't really understand the implications of his relationship to Vasco? Did his mentor ever find out about them or discuss such things with him? I assume bc he didn't have parents, he kinda didn't get educated on sex or anything. Was it a big shock to realize he was "sinning"?

I was a huge fan of Tilin and Bobby's squabbles during the early days of QSMP, so I really enjoyed seeing Sunny and Leo's petty beef with each other yesterday. It made me think of two privileged princesses fighting each other, which reminded me of another fun dynamic I enjoy, so naturally, I stayed up late editing this entire thing in one sitting because the idea made me laugh.

on a less serious side, bad and foolish having witnesses who are somewhat normal and regular to their usual strange and deranged antics is so hysterical. bad playing the role of kidnapped and felon this time around, letting himself get captured, pretending to be soooo guilty and talking like he’s actually gonna snitch. foolish doing it half for fun, half for show, because he knows cellbit is the killer already - he just needs nails for bad’s coffin because he’s gonna be the scapegoat, and he’s bored. if they were alone maybe they’d trade more intel - they’re on the same page but can’t exactly confirm nor allude to that with an audience, so it just devolves into their usual antics. meanwhile bagi is sweating and convinced bad is definitely about to spill everything she’s told him, falling for bad’s little ‘oh I’m so easily caught and convinced’ act harder than anyone else, trying to avoid bad’s arrest or worse, cellbit’s - while really what’s going on is bad and foolish’s homoerotic batshit insane cop and robber routine, where you’re not sure if someone’s getting arrested or if they’re about to make out. and aypierre is just there

this actually broke my heart into pieces, and then foolish had the nerve to say "we are reminiscing on the good times and yet it feels like the bad times"

clicked for me upon reflection that a lot of the backlash towards callum's treatment of rayla being too forgiving in s4/s5 overall is just... coming from a lack of maturity when it comes to healthy long term relationships (romantic or otherwise). if you love your friend/partner, you should not want to punish them when they mess up - even before they admit that they have. even if you do want to punish them in some manner, because we're all human, you don't because that would damage the relationship and the trust you're supposed to both have in each other.
callum is not going to purposefully punish rayla about anything; rayla quite often holds herself accountable even when he let things go (if anything she sometimes dwells too much on what she's done wrong), but she's also learning to accept grace - and by extension, help (and a lack of accepting help is exactly what led to their main issues in the first place; that was and is on her).
sometimes what's required for relationship repair feels backwards because it can be the things that led to the breakdown in the first place (rayla prioritizing callum over herself in leaving and in S4, because she needs to accept the feelings he does express over her own feelings/wants; callum offering help in s5 even after she's hurt him, because her learning to accept his help is crucial in not having another ttm happening).
relationships are complex. repairing relationships is even more complex. often times our best traits and patterns with one another are also our worst traits and patterns with one another.
and i think it's very cool and refreshing just how well arc 2 rayllum shows that in both its beauty and its hurt and with quite a bit of realism/nuance to boot

Bad and Foolish being immortal makes their relationship make so much sense
That being said, Bad and Foolish's friendship to me is the same as the one this Colombian friend group I once met had
Let me explain...
I went to an exchange program once where 4 schools from 4 different countries would be given the chance to have 4 students go to Germany
The people from Colombia explained to us that in their country, most people go to public school, and a lot of private schools are extremely exclusive
Their school happened to be so exclusive that most classes had around 5 people
So for most of your life you saw the same 4 people at school
They seemed to always be either very close or genuinely hate each other. There was this one girl that the other 3 had at arm's length a lot of the time, but they would still hang out and talk casually
I didn't talk much with them myself, but the people I was traveling with confirmed that they seemed to be very toxic; doing things against the other, getting mad at each other about it, and then go clubbing together the next day as if nothing happened.
Because you kind of have to get along, you're gonna see them every single school day until you graduate. If you had more classmates, you could allow yourself to ignore them; but whether you like it or not, they're gonna be a constant in your life.
Now, imagine being immortal. You see most people around you die at some point (if you stay long enough for that), maybe you've even killed some people yourself.
They all come and go, in and out of your mind in a blink.
But there's this one guy you keep encountering. You've known him for a long time, which doesn't happen a lot.
Every few hundreds of years you'd cross paths and hang out. Because... why not? It's one of the only familiar faces you can think of
Sometimes, you get along. Sometimes you don't. Either way, you're still gonna gravitate towards each other and strike conversation every single time
Now you're forced to be in the same place. Of course you're gonna hang out!
You have the weirdest possible conversations (You've already talked about everything else)
You slap him with a fish for hours, you let him slap you with a fish for hours (you've got the patience for it, you've done worst things for longer and the gods know you have the time)
You electrocute him, prank him, flirt with him, offer him emotional support, set him on fire, compliment him, insult him, falsely accuse him of murder, you plan his murder right in front of him, you plan other people's murder together, you tell him your most secret plan, you know when he's hiding things from you
Because he probably knows you more than most people
Because he's your friend
Because he's your sworn enemy
Because what else are you supposed to do

thinking about the elections tonight... bad, cellbit, baghera, and forever are four candidates who are devoted to the island- more specifically, to the residents of the island. They care for the eggs, and they care for each other, and the way they exhibit that care through their primary presidential strategies is fucking fascinating.
Bad is who I watch the most, so I know him best. He's a classic mother hen. He doesn't like to take risks with the eggs, and he likes to prepare. If there's any sort of variable that could hurt an egg then he wants to control it. They have a stable relationship with the federation right now- it's not great, but they know the parameters. Don't trust cucurucho. don't follow cucurucho. send the eggs to NINHO every time there's a threat. the time of day changing means you need to run. Other than that they're p okay and roughly safe. But adding a president could potentially change everything. What if the president makes a rule that makes it easier to kill the eggs? And what about the way a president could cause tensions between the players to rise even higher? The dynamics of the island could change drastically. It's safer to neutralize that threat before it ever becomes a threat. It's easier to stop a war before it can start.
Baghera's primary concern is the way the election is designed to pit the residents against each other. All of them know that the Federation is a threat and she, like Bad, is focused on not letting them hurt more people. But, unlike Bad, she's less resistant to change. If the power is spread to multiple players rather than just one, it will be harder for the Federation to corrupt any one of them. Each time before the Federation has gotten to someone it's done so by isolating them. Felps, Cellbit, Jaiden- they've all spent a lot of alone time with Cucurucho. A council isn't just to consolidate the ideals of the island; a council would protect the players themselves. Sure, there might be disagreements and arguments, but they've had those before (and they're having them now!) and there's no reason to think they wouldn't be able to get through them again.
I hit a bit of a wall with Forever and Cellbit's pov here. Everything I know about their plans are from the debates and paraphrased discussions that have been translated here on tumblr, I'm going to talk less about their explicit plan and more about what the result will entail- a single president who takes responsibility for the island. It seems to me like they've recognized the presidential seat as the powerful opportunity that it is, and they want to take advantage of it. Here's some extra personal speculation but, adding rules, adding or removing mods, proposing public works, enforcing laws- those are just the abilities that are listed. Those are incredible opportunities to make the Federation take action, which is more than they've had before. We've seen before that the Federation isn't perfect; the Federation makes mistakes.
By working with the Federation, by making them take action (in a semi-controlled, semi-predictable way) you open them up to more opportunities for them to fuck up (while benefiting you). And, maybe, one of those fuck ups will be the key to taking them down. Maybe they could reopen ender chests. Maybe they could open the nether. Maybe they could learn why the Federation is holding an election in the first place. It's possible to do all these things with Baghera's plan, sure, but that's not a guarantee and, if someone like Bad is on the council, there's absolutely no way to be sure it would get done. And, if there's a council, then that opens up everyone on the council to the Federation's wiles. If there's just one president, then that's where the Federation's focus will be. By using a single person to build a relationship with the Federation, they only risk that single person. By electing ministers instead of a council, they can ensure that the island residents' needs are being heard while placing the federation's focus on that one person. A point can be made that they've done that before- with varying results. like kidnapping. selling your soul. etc. But! overall, I think they've gained more than they've lost by singling out one person. Because of them, we know that Cucurucho can't be trusted. We know that the Federation has a series of tunnels underneath the island. We know that the Federation not only has some sort of cryo technology, but had some unknown reason to use it. We know that there was another person working with Cellbit to take care of Felps (theorized to be ElQuackity), so we know there's at least one more Fed that isn't Cucurucho + blank-faced workers. There's been risk, but there's absolutely been rewards. This is just a very long meandering way to say that their plan to sacrifice Forever to the presidential seat reminds me very much of Cellbit's plan to sacrifice himself to the federation. They're saving their friends by potentially damning themselves and I, for one, think that is cool as hell.
they all care about each other so much. bad's plan means taking on no more risk. baghera's plan means spreading that risk evenly to stand strong together. and cellbit and forever's plan means taking the risk onto themselves so they can reap the rewards for others. am i reading too much into things? no this is tumblr and this smp is about LOVE and i really genuinely think that their election plans are a fantastic example of just how much they love each other
#qsmp elections#qsmp#qsmp analysis#again i haven't been following cellbit and forever's exact plan too closely but i've gotten the sense that their pushing of public works is#just to get people to vote for them and the true reason they want forever to be president is to infiltrate the federation#if that's not it tho feel free to let me know i'd love to know these cubitos reasonings#but with my interpretation i like the silly little extra headcanon of mr cell “sold his soul to the cops” bit#subconsciously sacrificing forever to the feds and pushing him into corruption#which ALSO makes the forever-killing-cellbit-to-kick-him-out-of-the-running plan Even More Tasty#'what if i let you kill me. what if destroying me destroyed yourself. what if i have already destroyed you on purpose and you forgave me#now what if i dont mean it when i do it again'#if anyone wants to examine the other candidates (or these same ones) and figure out how their election strategy is an example of their love#please do#i don't know enoguh about the others#but i know that gegg is love-turned-grief burn-the-world-down#and foolish is love for Item. love for cloud. love for being a silly#i don't know etoiles' plan for if he gets elected but i know he also deeply loves the island and the residents#him and his security <3 and the care packages for new players <3 and the way he Craves Violence but absolutely refuses to hurt anyone who#doesn't deserve it. most guy of all time#personally i want foolish to win because i think it would be really fun#but i think that any of them (even the candidates i don't know) would be a Fantastic president#we're going to get some good roleplay any way it goes so ill be happy :3#the only mechanic thing i want is for them to open the nether but that feels like a given for anyone so im not worried about it tbh#ty for coming to my tedtalk#hello if you're reading this tag. i see youre just as un-normal about these characters as i am. or you just like to read. respect either wa

So lets talk about why the federation chose q!Foolish to work for them.
The whole "YOU ARE. UNIQUE" book
I wouldnt read it as negative nor positive. Its simply a statement. Its saying that q!Foolish is useful. He's easy to please and at the same time competent enough to work with federation. Just a good tool, waiting to be used.
They chose him, simply because he was already there. He was asking to be friends with cucurucho for some time now. He was the one always saying that he wants to be kidnapped. That he wants something interesting to happen.
Q!Foolish's desires have always been simple. Keep his family safe. Be noticed by Federation. Have a gun. Get a cloud.
And his silly, happy go lucky personality makes him just good enough to get away with whatever he wants. Or at least to minimalize the damage to himself.
He is just a perfect scapegoat.
He might be technically working for federation as "detective". But is he really?
Thats just a name. Is Mr. Mustard really missing? Or did the federation make him go missing to give Foolish something to do.
And q!Foolish will not question it. At least not enough to see a problem with continuing the work.
However his real job is to sow mistrust.
The fedaration has been trying to divide islanders for so long. But how do you divide people that are so close to each other?
You just keep adding more and more and more factors.
You start small, simple. Just watch them, and let them know that they are being watched.
Then you give them something to do, someone to protect. The eggs. Their fragile children. Now they dont have to worry only about themselves. And the islanders bond with each other over it, they become more united then ever before.
But all that is just temporary. And when they think that everything is stable and joyous, you slowly take it away. Your children dissapear and then come back with cracks on them. But its alright, it was just a one scary moment.
However later your friends get kidnapped. And when they are back, you want to trust them. But can you really, when you know that the Federation was one keeping them? How can you be so sure that they are the same person they were before.
And the next kidnapping just proves it more. Quackity isnt back. ElQuackity is walking around instead, seemingly looking like the person they once knew.
Then you start the elections. Throw some benefits to make the offer interesting. And it divides them. Maybe not as much as one would have hoped, but some disagreements never hurt nobody :)
And islanders ultimately want someone trustwothy to become a president. But by doing so, you achieve otherwise. Cause now that trustwothy person will be placed directly under federation whether they like it or not.
Well but you still have your eggs. You would always trust your children wouldnt you?
But the Code Monster can impersonate them now. And as much as you want to say that you know your children, can you actually? Or is your mind playing tricks in you. Will you always be able to tell?
They know they cannot trust the island. But despite many disagreements, they always had each other. They consider other islanders friends and family.
But what if one person chose to betray the islanders. It adds to all the concerns and reminds them just how fragile trust is...
And its slowly but surely eating everyone from inside. They are still together. They are always scrambling to cooperate and listen to each other. To communicate. They always have been.
But the question is. Will they always? For how long? Is there a breaking point?
And if there is, when, and what will happen after?...

watching both q!bbh and q!foolish, you kind of notice that often they get treated… not good. bad is blamed as a scapegoat for things he didn’t do quite a lot bc he’s a just a nice™ guy and foolish has people pushing his boundaries all the time bc he’s just a silly™ guy. those two do the same to each other too but they know each other well enough where they usually seem to notice when they crossed a line and make up for it. sometimes the other people on the island like to do this thing where there’s a day where they show them appreciation and compliment them or whatever but then go back to the same treatment the next day. it’s not difficult to see why they each have their own inner circle of people that they actually trust. landduo seem to have very different and weird boundaries, but boundaries nonetheless. their gray morality scale just confuses the others
