Every woman, of course, wishes to believe that the man in her life is an exceptional man, a man in a million, and that therefore she is the exceptional woman. But the odds are 99.9 to 0.1 against her (and .1 is probably a high estimate), because almost no man, no matter how gentle, no matter how liberal, could bear to reject the innumerable privileges (operant in very subtle as well as blatant ways in every sphere of his life) of being male, even if it were possible. A friend once wrote to me, "For me, the bottom line now with men is that any man (my brother, too, whom I love dearly) will sell me out if it's a choice between me and patriarchy, me and his male privilege."
- Sonia Johnson
Women feel that, without men, we will be alone and further isolated. We will have no one. We do not see relations with other women as an alternative. Without men, life isn’t worth living. This reveals the extent to which women experience our selves through men’s eyes. The more lost women feel without men, the more we have defined ourselves through our relationships with men and in relation to men.
Having most members of any oppressed group live one-on-one with their oppressors is probably the strongest possible arrangement for ensuring continued psychological enslavement. Whether the adult male is father or husband, the effect is the same: the woman is isolated from other women.
- Dee L. R. Graham
Men are thinking, writing, and creating, because women are pouring their energy into those men; women are not creating culture because they are occupied with love.
- Shulamith Firestone
Heterosexuality stands out as one of the last bastions of patriarchy where the notion of individual choice remains thoroughly unexamined. This leads to curious scenarios such as the phenomenon of feminists who might be critical of the notion of ‘choice’ and ‘agency’ in relation to oppressive systems such as pornography and prostitution, posting pictures of themselves in wedding dresses on social media, and defending their ‘choices’ as a purely private affair.
- Julia Long
Feminism is stifled by women with shifting priorities based on necessary compromises with the men in their lives. This will always create a burden for the woman to choose between her politics and the oppressor class she has an intimate connection to.
- Sustainable Separatist
Women’s magazines place young women’s ability to establish and maintain heterosexual dating relationships at the centre of women’s identities. Rhetoric surrounding the achievement of ‘wedded bliss’ and finding ‘Mr Right’ abounds, with men the ultimate source of ‘women’s fulfilment’.
- Kate Farhall
The whole world wants you to partner up with a man; the handful of us who want liberation don’t threaten your little domestic dream beyond asking you to self-reflect a bit and ponder your priorities. We’re not witches, and we’re not the monster under your bed either. We’re women alive leading fulfilling lives, and we’d love it if more women got to experience it. There’s no non-misogynistic man. Some do a good job of fooling the women around them, but none of them isn’t complicit in women’s oppression. Why do you feel such a need to put your life and your freedom in a man’s hand? Can’t you do things yourself instead of waiting for someone else’s input? At the end of the day it’s not about your feelings. It’s about doing something so things change instead of just waiting passively for men to deign to give us a few rights, it’s about women’s liberation. And that might very well be something you are not interested in, which is your prerogative, but it’s not my case.
- Floatingbook
The most exhilarating experience of my newly-divorced life was the discovery that I could be whole and happy without a man; that the fierce brainwashing to the contrary, which I’d sustained all my life, was not only composed of lies from start to finish, but was a total reversal of the truth: it’s not women who need men, but men who need women.
- Sonia Johnson
I don’t think we need to argue or defend female separatism. We just have to build it. Women who are able to speak against it obviously see no benefit in joining, so they can stay as they are. But they can’t control what we do. They can go on and on about how absolutely dreadful it would be, while we’re already building our houses and planting our gardens and having immense joy at the freedom and life. Separatism proves its points by existing and showing what it really is. Don’t waste energy telling people how stupid they are for fighting you about it, come learn all about berries and sustainable permaculture with us.
- Balkan Radfem
Friends and enemies will be clearly lined up, and the friends will be real friends and the enemies unable to hide behind phony benevolence — nor will we have to toady to them. An end to this constant remaking of ourselves according to what the male ego demands! Let us be ourselves and good riddance to those who are then repulsed by us!
- Dana Densmore

The Republicans could lose several seats in the House of Representatives due to a surprise Supreme Court ruling which will create a new Black majority district in Alabama, according to a new study.
On Thursday the Supreme Court backed a lower court's ruling, by five votes to four, which found the districts drawn up by the state violate Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, which prohibits "discrimination on the basis of race" in the electoral process. Chief Justice John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh, both widely regarded as conservatives, voted with the court's three liberal members to deliver the result.
The ruling means the boundaries of Alabama's seven House districts will need to be redrawn ahead of the 2024 congressional elections, in a move that is expected to benefit the Democrats. It will also increase pressure on other Republican states to follow suit, strengthening the Democratic position in North Carolina and Louisiana.
The Cook Political Report, a non-partisan analytics website, updated its ratings for five House districts following the ruling.
Alabama's 1st and 2nd congressional districts, currently represented by Republicans Jerry Carl and Barry Moore respectively, have been changed from "solid Republican" to "toss up."
The same has happened to Louisiana's 5th and 6th districts, putting seats currently held by Republicans Julia Letlow and Garret Graves, at risk to the Democrats.
Tumblr media
Finally North Carolina's 1st congressional district, which is occupied by Democrat Don Davis, transitions from "toss up" to "lean Democrat."
However the Cook Political Report does add a caveat to its predictions, commenting: "Until courts or legislatures enact remedial plans, it's difficult to predict exactly which Republican incumbents will be impacted."
The Supreme Court's decision could open the door to additional legal challenges in other states whose maps have faced contention from critics arguing they purposefully dilute minority voters to favor Republicans. Louisiana and Georgia—whose state legislatures passed redistricting plans with similar characteristics to Alabama's—could face renewed legal challenges to their maps on the grounds they disproportionately diminish the power of the state's voters.
Thursday's court ruling was welcomed by President Joe Biden, who repeated calls for Congress to pass wider ranging voting reform.
"Today's decision confirms the basic principle that voting practices should not discriminate on account of race, but our work is not done," he commented.
However Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall insisted the state will continue the fight, stating: "Although the majority's decision is disappointing, this case is not over."
Derrick Johnson, president of civil rights group the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) saluted the decision as "a victory for Black America and a triumph for our democracy."

Hayley's Basic Info
Tumblr media
Name: Hayley Anne Mays
Hayley's faceclaims were so fun for me to find, but I had a hard time choosing between my 90s pick and my 00s pick as they both fit her so well. For the 60s, we have Sophia Loren (Arabesque). For the 80s, we have Julia Roberts (Mystic Pizza). For the 90s, we have Sandra Bullock (Practical Magic). For the current day, we have Dakota Johnson (Am I OK?). My pick for the 00s was Michelle Rodriguez (Fast and the Furious) as I feel like her character, Letty, in the first few movies is very fitting for a college-age Hayley, but I kept it simple and stuck with just showing the normal decades.
Nicknames: Hails, Hammy (only her sister calls her that and it’s solely because of her initials spelling HAM), Other Mother/Mom (by Vivien, usually, but Charlie calls her that sometimes when she's talking with Vivien)
Age: 38
Date of Birth: February 25
Zodiac: Pisces
Birthstone: Amethyst
Nationality: Native American and Irish
Sexuality: Lesbian
Birthplace: Newcastle, Maine
Current Residence: Laconia, New Hampshire
Occupation: Engineering Manager
Talents/Skills: Sculpting, speed-reading, and she loves using her skills with computers to mod out video games for friends and family.
Birth order: Oldest
Siblings: Chelsea Alisha O’Brian (older by 10 minutes)
Parents: George Wallace Mays and Dawn Marie Campbell
Signature:
Tumblr media
Height: 5’9”
Race: Native American
Eye Color: Green
Hair Color: Brown
Glasses or contact lenses: Only reading glasses
Distinguishing features: She has a surgery scar from having a C-section when she had Vivien, a small scar on her jaw from a car accident she was in when she first got her permit, and a tattoo of a bouquet of flowers on the inside of her left forearm. Each flower symbolizes a family member’s birth month and she plans on adding more to it as time goes on.
Mannerisms: If her mouth is moving, her hands will be too, but she gets more emphatic with it when she’s holding something, she can sometimes be found muttering things to herself while she works - broken, unintelligible sentences usually, and she tugs at her hair if she has it down - twisting it around her fingers, braiding small strands, or simply tugging at it to keep herself focused.
Health: Allergy-related asthma (pollen, grass, and pine wood are the main triggers) and she has iron deficiency.
Hobbies: She habitually participates in street racing - mile and quarter-mile races are her specialty, but she’ll race just about anything if her car qualifies - but she also loves going to comic conventions with Charlie and Vivien, getting all dressed up as different characters, and just enjoying a day out with family.
Greatest flaw (in their opinion): She would probably say how unintentionally sarcastic she sounds when she’s upset, when, in reality, it would be how much pressure she puts on herself. She had a bad habit of pushing herself far past the breaking point to accomplish things as deadlines are very important to her and it takes an army to make her stop.
Best quality (in their opinion): Her first instinct would be to deflect and say her best quality is the bond she has with her family, but even she knows - deep down - that it would actually be her selflessness. Choosing to have Vivien for her sister and brother-in-law was a big factor in this and, despite claiming that anybody would do it for family, she knows that isn’t the case. It certainly wasn’t the first time she put aside her own feelings in favor of helping someone and it definitely won’t be the last.
Biggest fear: Loss. Whether it be a breakup, a death, or a missing pet, loss is Hayley’s biggest fear. It started early as her grandfather on her mom’s side passed away when she was only seven. They had been so close that it was like a part of her heart had been torn from her chest. As time passed, more people in her extended family died and she watched as more people left her life for one reason or another, she grew attached to those around her in the hope that they would stick around. As an adult, it’s slightly easier to deal with, but she still constantly worries about her family as her parents get older and Vivien begins to walk the thin line between danger and safety.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw, but the hat took forever to decide between that and Gryffindor
Favorite ice cream: Cookies and cream
Favorite colors: Green and royal blue
Favorite number: 4, how many dates she and Charlie went on before she knew she wanted to get married.
Favorite songs: Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners, Where'd All the Time Go? by Dr. Dog, and Cosmic Love by Florence + The Machine
A place they want to visit: Caribbean

Help me, Booklr, you're my only hope!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Updated 5/10/23: I found yet another small stack and added it to the list.
These are all the BOTM books I own. The intent when I signed up for BOTM back in 2020 was to try and read out of my usual comfort zone of Urban Fantasy (and the occasional fantasy book). My success with this challenge has been minimal — I started a couple of these books but ultimately didn't finish them. It wasn't because the books were boring, however. I was enjoying the couple I started, but I just ended up falling out-of-the-mood to read them.
The biggest problem I'm facing is just where to start with this massive (and ever growing) stack. Every single one of these books sounds amazing and interesting to read, but... I don't where to start! So I'm turning to you, members of Booklr, to help me choose which of these books to read next! These are stacked in no particular order, but for anyone that's having difficulty with images loading or can't see the images, here is a list for you:
The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo*
Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo
A River Enchanted by Rebecca Ross
Outlawed by Anna North
A Good Marriage by Kimberly McCreight
The Only Survivors by Megan Miranda
The Dating Plan by Sara Desai
Home Before Dark by Riley Sager
Like A Sister by Kellye Garrett
The Space Between Worlds by Micaiah Johnson
The Verifiers by Jane Pek
The Book of Cold Cases by Simone St. James
The Survivors by Jane Harper
Reckless Girls by Rachel Hawkins
The Bodyguard by Katherine Center
Killers of a Certain Age by Deanna Raybourn
The Family Game by Catherine Steadman
The Stardust Thief by Chelsea Abdullah
The Wife Upstairs by Rachel Hawkins
Breathless by Amy McCulloch
Girl, Forgotten by Karin Slaughter
Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney
Beasts of Extraordinary Circumstance by Ruth Emmie Lang
The London Séance Society by Sarah Penner
The Wilderwomen by Ruth Emmie Lang
Darling Girl by Liz Michalski
The Writing Retreat by Julia Bartz
The Last Word by Taylor Adams
The Last Flight by Julie Clark
Dark Matter by Blake Crouch
Half Sick of Shadows by Laura Sebastian
*This copy of Ninth House is not a BOTM book, I included it in the stack because it's the first in a series.

First thank you for the audio, I’m so excited to listen!! You said you talked to one of the actors, does this mean you staged doored? If so, how and where was it? I’m going next week but I don’t know where to go, I thought it was still not an option because of covid. Thanks again for the audio and any info about stage door you have :))
yes, i did stage door!
for the location: i followed the directions found here. essentially, you just turn right as you exit, turn right on 8th avenue, then turn right again on 45th st (so it's one street over from the majestic, in other words). i scoped out the location during the day before going because i was nervous about finding it lol. here is a pic of what it looks like, from the site i linked:
Tumblr media
as for stage dooring post-covid, i think i saw someone on the broadway subreddit saying that they just lifted restrictions last week (or the week before, not sure). either way, for the past while in an unofficial capacity, it seemed like the actors were still meeting people as they left judging by pics posted on instagram. they didn't have any barricades up or anything like i've seen for some other shows when i went, so it was all very casual
i recommend getting to the stagedoor asap after the show, i left as fast as i could (from front mezz) and only saw ben crawford, julia udine, and nehal joshi (and chris georgetti + maree johnson, but didn't get to speak with them). there weren't too many people waiting when i got there, probably about 4 groups of 2-4 people each. the actors were all very kind and took the time to talk with each group individually
i was incredibly nervous at first since, ya know, this is my life and all. but i spoke to julia first and she was just so nice that my nerves basically melted away. i thanked her for her performance and just said how much i enjoyed it and appreciated her work for the show etc etc. speaking to nehal was especially awesome, because seeing his andre really just elevated the managers overall for me, and i told him that he basically ruined every other andre performance for me (like i've said on here before) and that i just really loved what he did with the role. as i mentioned in the tags of the other post, he brought up how hal prince said two things about andre, that he was "kind and loved the opera." i think i almost collapsed on the spot honestly, because he quoted hal fucking prince. he was just so genuine and kind, everyone was. ben was really nice too, he mentioned visiting an area around my hometown when i said i traveled from (insert far away state) after not seeing him when i saw the show for the first time in december. -- i know you didn't ask for a retelling of my exact experience lol, but since i was pretty nervous with not knowing what to do, i thought it might help if you heard how it was!
also, if you want them to sign anything i recommend bringing your own pen just in case. julia didn't have one but ben and nehal did, so it's best to be prepared i think. but the people at the stage door with me were really cool, so i'm sure anyone would let you borrow a pen if you forget one
i hope it's a great experience for you!

Accidentally Roomies Chapter 72
AO3
“Damn!” the special investigator mumbles low. Her colleagues nod. The pictures hidden behind an easily broken anagram, leave no doubt of his guilt. The pictures sicken even the most hardened of the detectives. Several different little girls. One he identifies as his daughter.
The lead detective sergeant turns away, swallowing hard. “I want him picked up today. Harris, go to the hospital and get an official statement from his daughter. Johnson, interview his wife. If she won’t corporate at home, bring her in. We need to identify the others. I will sent this on to Scotland Yard.”
They all nod and hurry off to do their duty. She sits, rubbing her temples. Even after fifteen years in the Special Unit, this type of case still gets to her. Little girls, barely out of nappies.. She pounds her fist on the desk and forces herself to concentrate. A copy of his folder, marked “darlings” is made and sent through a secure email to Scotland Yard. She then starts making up a list of questions she wants Harold George to answer.
He is brought in and roughly pressed into a chair. She comes in with a folder with the pictures printed off. She takes a seat across from him. For the first minute she just stares. “If you have questions for me, just ask.” He finally says, squirming a bit.
“Questions, yes. I have questions. How could you do it? To your own daughter?”
“Look it isn’t my fault. She walked around shaking her little bum, always climbing on my lap.”
“She was two/ three! Climbing into a parents lap is normal. Healthy. What you did, isn’t ? And who are the others in your darling file?”
“One is my cousin. She was the first. Sweet Annie.” He smiles and she has no doubt that he has an erection. It is a struggle not to slap him.
“And the other?”
“A friend of Julia’s.” His smile gets bigger and he eyes the file, his eyes hungry. “Is that them. My little darlings?”
Her nausea raises. “How did you get access to Julia’s friend?”
“She had sleepovers. Ah, those were good night’s.”
She stands abruptly. Picking up the folder, she walks out. Her partner meets her outside the door. “F*CK but is he a bold one!” She nods.
“The wife?”
“She is in the next room.” With a nod, she hears that direction, carrying the folder with her.
“Mrs. George, do you know why we picked up your husband?” The woman looks frail. She feels for her but more for the broken and shattered little girls that her husband had violated.
“Yes,” she shakes her head, her hands holding tight to the tissue in her hand. “I thought he had stopped.”
She takes a seat across from her. “You knew?” She nods.
“His cousin. They were found together when he was nineteen and she was eight. She was, ah, preforming oral sex on him.”
“Jesus weeps.” The detective sergeant whispers. The woman continues her story.
“They decided to keep it quiet, in house. They didn’t want to put the child through testifying. That was the excuse. We were married and I found out Julia was coming during this time. I thought about.. well a lot of things. My mum reminded me that it was for better or worse. He swore that he would change. That the urge had left. I believed him. He was my husband and well, I believed him.”
She removes the photos and spreads them out. Pushing them towards her, she says, “You shouldn’t have. He was grooming your granddaughter too. She would be in his little ' darlings file’ had Julia not talked. This is her, isn’t it?” She touches one of the pictures. “It seems he still wants oral from his little darlings. She is what, no more then five there.” She stands, leaving the photos in front of her and the wife, the mum, weeping.
She bloody knew, his family did, and they did nothing! Any sympathy she felt for her is gone. She stalks into the room where Harold George is and places him under arrest.

Louisiana voting districts were gerrymandered in 2022 to deny representation to Black voters
New districts were drawn to provide 2 districts that would give representation to African Americans (opportunity districts) that many still saw as not representative
A group of self-identified "non-African American voters" filed suit against the new districts and two Trump appointed judges struck down the opportunity districts as racist.
Now the case will go to Trump's Supreme Court
Republicans want to preserve the seats of House Speaker Mike Johnson, Steve Scalise and Julia Letlow
Right now the State has NO Congressional map for voting.

3 Beds, 2 Baths, 1 Ghost
Synopsis: Newly single Anna is trying to prove to her Father and herself that she can sell her first home! Unfortunately, the house happens to be haunted by a socialite Ruby, who had died in a car crash 100 years prior.
The movie opens with the Charleston record playing on a turntable. There are origins of the song in Black history. If you didn't know, Charleston rose to popularity in late 1923. It was in the Broadway show Runnin Wild. The song was created by African American artists James P Johnson and Cecil Mark. Running Wild was filled with Black talent and it ended up capturing national and international popularity.
3 Beds, 2 Baths, and 1 Ghost was set in the town of Seaside New Jersey. I wondered throughout the movie whether Seaside was supposed to be a small-town. Hallmark loves to set its stories in small towns to add a cozier feel to its movies and shows. There was nothing to suggest it was a small town other than her (Julia) doctor knowing about her breakup with Elliot. Which can I say is a little weird? She came in concerned after seeing Ruby for the first time. He mentioned that he'd known her for a long time, but it still didn't seem appropriate under the circumstances. It seemed dismissive.
This film was released on April 24, 2023, by Hallmark. Julia Gonzalo plays Anna in the film. Julia Gonzalo is Argentinian and played Miss Rojas in Supergirl. Madeleine Arthur plays Ruby, the fabulous ghost. She is probably best known for her role as Kris in the To All the Boys series. Their dynamic in the movie reminded me of Annie and Hallie's dynamic in the 1998 Parent Trap. It was very sisterly. They both had great chemistry together. You could tell they grew to love each other by the end.
Got to say wasn't a fan of the men in this film. Terrance, played by William Vaughan, did make a good antagonist. He was the perfect amount of a smarmy and power-hungry. Every time he was on screen, he annoyed me in seconds. I disagree with Julia telling her Dad to give the company to Terrance. Hallmark seems to have a habit of rewarding men's bad behavior.
Julia's Dad, played by Xavier Sotelo got off too easy when his controlling behavior throughout the movie had been problematic. He kept pressuring and underestimating Julia. He did not act as though she could handle the listing. He seemed more concerned with how her 'mistakes' would affect him than Julia's feelings. Anytime he thought she'd made a mistake, he was there to berate her and then rush away to deal with clients.
This could have been a series that expanded on some interesting points in the film. One is the reason why Julia was able to see Ruby. Instead of it being because of her connection with Elliot, I think it would have been cool if she was a medium, but she hadn't realized it until Ruby. There could easily be a familial origin, which gives Hallmark a reason to hire more Latine actors. I would love to see others come in to offer her guidance on specific cases even if that is through one mentor. The different insights from seasoned Spiritualists could be cool. I want to see her grow and come into her power. She found her true passion in helping Ruby and is just using real estate as a front to research and explore possibly haunted sites. Like Buffy and many supernatural heroines throughout film and television, she'd become a badass. The romance between Anna and Elliot could also be expanded on. One thing I liked about 3 Beds, 2 Baths, and 1 Ghost was that it didn't wrap their relationship up in a pretty bow. They acknowledged that there were still things to work through. The power of love didn't magically make them forget all their issues. I would like to see them gradually working on rebuilding their relationship. It could be a nice secondary plotline. I love the 'Mortal' and Supernatural partner dynamic. Think Samantha and Darrin from Bewitched, but Elliot treats Anna WAY better. There is a lot of possibility there. Hallmark dropped the ball by having the movie end in such a predictable way.

When a Stranger Calls Back (Fred Walton, 1993)
Cast: Carol Kane, Charles Durning, Jill Schoelen, Gene Lythgow, Kevin McNulty, Cheryl Wilson, Jerry Wasserman. Screenplay: Fred Walton. Cinematography: David Geddes. Production design: Chris August. Film editing: David Byron Lloyd. Music: Dana Kaproff.
I haven't seen When a Stranger Calls, Fred Walton's 1979 film, but I gather that it helped launch the horror movie trope "the phone call's coming from inside the house!" There are no calls coming from inside or outside the house in Walton's sequel, When a Stranger Calls Back, because the phone line has been cut. (The film was obviously made before the ubiquity of cell phones.) The setup is a standard one for horror movies: A babysitter is terrorized by a mysterious stranger. In this case, Julia (Jill Schoelen) is a high school student called in at the last moment to sit for a couple's two small children, who have already gone to bed by the time she arrives. As she settles in, there's a knock on the door, which she cautiously answers from inside, not unlocking or opening the door. The voice outside explains that his car has broken down and he'd like to use the phone to call for help. She volunteers to make the call herself, and after some back and forth, he reluctantly agrees, giving her the information she needs. But when she goes to the phone, the line is dead. Still wary, she lies to the man outside, claiming that she made the call, but hoping he'll go elsewhere for help. Walton handles this part of the film efficiently and effectively as things gradually escalate until Julia realizes that the man is inside the house. Fortunately, the parents arrive just in time to save her, but they discover that the children are missing from their upstairs bedroom. Then the film falls apart. Five years pass, and Julia is now a college student. Still suffering the effects of the earlier incident, she begins noticing strange things happening in her apartment. The police are dismissive, but they call on a counselor from the college to help. She turns out to be Jill Johnson (Carol Kane), who was the victim in original film. Jill has good reason to trust Julia's instincts and calls in John Clifford (Charles Durning), the detective from her case. But the convergence of the separate experiences of Jill and Julia muddles the narrative, as both women become terrorized by the new bad guy. And then the movie comes to a thuddingly ridiculous end, as Clifford figures out that the guy must be a ventriloquist. As any 10-year-old kid who has ever tried it knows, ventriloquists rely on visual misdirection: moving the dummy's mouth while keeping theirs nearly motionless. They can't really "throw" their voices, as the movie suggests the guy outside Julia's door did. When a Stranger Calls Back was made for television and first appeared on Showtime, then was released on video. Despite some creepy moments, I suspect that it would have been laughed out of theaters.

Celebrity home decoration.

Celebrity home decoration.
Tumblr media
Have you ever stopped to think about how celebrities live? How will the decoration of famous houses in Spain, the United States… be like? It’s not just curiosity (and some gossip), but many can give you ideas to make the most of your space or to decorate with a certain style that you didn’t think would look good.
That’s why, on this occasion, we wanted to turn to YouTube to find videos of famous houses decoration, so you can see how they live (or used to live) and how they give personality to their homes. How about taking a look at the houses of the celebrities we have found?
Julia Roberts
We start with Julia Roberts, known worldwide for her movie Pretty Woman, although throughout her career she has done many more (and very successful).
We have found a video on YouTube where you can see how her house is decorated, and this can always give you some ideas to apply to your home.
Take a look:
Cayetana Blanco Masaveu
In case you don’t recognize her, she is the jewelry designer and founder of Mass Milano. And in the video we have found, she opens the doors of her house.
Keep in mind that the video is from three years ago, so some parts of the decoration may not be in style anymore. Or even that the professional herself no longer lives in this house.
J Balvin and his house decoration
J Balvin is not only known in his home country, Colombia, but he has also made a name for himself in many other parts of the world. This singer and producer has a house focused on the “wabi-sabi” style.
So if you are interested in this style but didn’t know how to put it into practice, this video can give you a slight idea of what you have to do to achieve it.
Ana Milán
Another video we found on YouTube about famous houses decoration is related to the actress Ana Milán, who, a year ago, discovered how her newly renovated house in Madrid turned out. The interior designer Fabián Ñiguez worked on the decoration with her.
Watch the video to see what ideas it could give you to copy for your home.
Natalia Verbeke
As you know, trends come and go. And it is normal that, after some time, they become fashionable again. That’s why, although this video is over five years old, we wanted to include it so you can see Natalia Verbeke’s house (at that time) and the decoration she had.
We warn you that some points of the video can help you decorate and stay fashionable at the moment.
Vanessa Hudgens
This actress was very well-known a few years ago when she starred in High School Musical. However, although she is still working and has made more appearances, not everyone knows her.
But, two years ago, she did allow the cameras into her house in Los Angeles, so they could film how she had decorated her home. Will you take a look?
Rita Ora
The video we found of Rita Ora’s house in London is going to catch your attention because her house seems to be taken out of the Victorian era. But there it is, and it can be ideal for a retro or classic style.
So you can take many ideas to apply them in your home.
Dakota Johnson
In this case, on an international level, we have Dakota Johnson, the daughter of Antonio Banderas. Well, about three years ago, she opened her house in Hollywood to show how she lived. So we found the video on YouTube for you to take a look.
Antonio Banderas
Of course, on YouTube, we can find plenty of videos of Antonio Banderas related to his houses. So we have chosen one from about three years ago, which takes us directly into the mansion he has near downtown Marbella.
The video is not too long, but it does help us get to know a little more about the actor’s style and, by the way, it can also give us ideas for decorating at home.
Leonardo DiCaprio
We end this list of celebrities and their house decoration with Leonardo DiCaprio.
In a video from two years ago, you can take a look at the house he has in Malibu and everything you can find in it. The truth is that some rooms catch your attention because of the colors they have.
As you can see, the decoration of famous houses can give you ideas and, above all, allows you to get to know those familiar faces a little more. Do you have any videos or articles about other celebrities and their decoration style? Is any of them particularly unique in giving personality to their home?

COUCH TOUR: SHAKTI (ZAKIR HUSSAIN and JOHN McLAUGHLIN with Ganesh Rajagopalan, Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram) with JOHN SCOFIELD, RYMAN AUDITORIUM, 31 AUGUST 2023
Let’s hear it for streaming and in this case Peter Shapiro’s Capitol Theater operation for putting this one up. Much as I appreciated John McLaughlin’s acoustic turn after the Mahavishnu Orchestra and, even then, being intrigued by Indian music, I did not get into Shakti. They are a big deal but I doubt I would have gone to see them.
But a stream and the chance for a music meditation on a momentous day with lots to process seemed like a good way to spend the evening of the last day of my day job.
It was.
The unexpected bonus was JOHN SCOFIELD doing a 45 minute solo set with loops and such. He was on the bill and somehow I imagined, jazz like, he’d sit in for guitar fireworks with JOHN McLAUGHLIN. Instead, Scofield sat down and played used a pick and fingerpicked things that were generally song and, at the Ryman, evoked a little bit his album of country tunes and his Hudson work with Jack DeJohnette. Not any of the Hudson songs but he did The Times They Are A-Changing and Julia off The Beatles’ White Album. Blue in Green was in there with lots of effects deployed, well, effectively. The final medley started with The Derry Air/Danny Boy and included a pop song and then some twang. I have heard Scofield on his own projects but also in jam bands situations with Warren Haynes and Phil Lesh. Then he surprised me with an effective set with Bill Charlap as part of 92NY’s Jazz in July. Then this.
Then SHAKTI. McLaughlin played electric, not acoustic, sometimes with midi effects. He was sitting down so it wasn’t pedals but he did have a laptop. He is a remarkable player to be sure and I’m thrilled to have seen Mahavishnu blow the roof off Hoch Auditorium in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1973 or 4. But, overall, I appreciated him more than liked him. Miles on Jack Johnson probably got him to play more directly. Even here it’s too cerebral. Indian music is wonderfully complex and he can hang with these masters, especially ZAKIR HUSSAIN. But they have it organically, witness an extended solo by the other percussionist Selvahaganesh Vinayakram on a small frame drum with some of the wonderful Konnokol vocals that are superficially like scat singing. Everyone else confidently found the one in the complex rhythms, something like 17 or 25, with two pulses working with and against one another. McLaughlin found it most of the time, but he was tentative.
So actually Hussain—who is part of Mickey Hart’s Planet Drum though I haven’t seen him with that, more with Dave Holland and Chris Potter—who is the magnetic force. Clearly he has big ears and drives the fusion. Those rhythms and watching them happen live was well worth it. The Konnokol is certainly part of that. Ganesh Rajagopalan is the primary vocalist and he has range, power (there was one very sustained note), and amazing rhythmic deftness, but they all can add this form of scat/mouth music that adds layers. Shankar Mehadavan’s violin, held more vertically and not tucked under his chin, matched McLaughlin in the unison sections while being its own evocative solo voice.
I am not heading back to the McLaughlin recordings nor the Shakti nor Zakir Hussain discography. But let’s do hear it for the streams that made it reasonable to see this music at a particularly apt and opportune time.
