TOP 10 MUSIC & BAND FANDOMS ON AO3 BASED ON NUMBER OF FANWORKS (2009-2022)
To make these bar chart race, all series titles in the Music & Bands Category on November 29 (or the closest date to it) of every year were copy-pasted from Wayback Machine to Google Sheets, rearranged according to number of fanworks, and then inputted to Flourish to turn into a bar chart race.
Locked fanworks aren't included in the count because Wayback Machine can’t view those, only Ao3 users can.
Popslash was in the top 10 in 2010-2011. It got as high as top 3 in 2010. By 2022, this tag was removed from the Music & Bands Category list and fanworks tagged with it show up in Music RPF instead.
American Idol RPF was in 3rd place in 2009, and 2nd in 2010-2012. This tag was then removed from the Music & Bands category by 2013, and can be found in the Celebrities & Real People and TV Shows categories instead. I’m leaving it out in this bar chart since it means this tag was miscategorized.
Fandom tags that are no longer in the Music & Bands category tag as of posting this are left out of the bar chart race. These tags are usually either miscategorized or already have other tags referring to the same fandom.
For tags that existed on the same years before eventually merging into one tag later on (such as Popslash and Disney RPF which later on merged with Music RPF), I use the data of whichever tag has the highest number for that year.
I'll make another version of this next week leaving out the super broad tags like [Genre] RPF and [Country]-pop RPF since almost half of the top 10 each year are occupied by these tags.
Please refer to this post for more bar chart races.
Thanks for understanding and hopefully I didn’t mess up anywhere! 🙏
Learning to fly on our own wings and growing into ourselves is something that takes time and, sometimes, it’s all about the people we meet. Ryo has just started university and still needs to learn that lesson.
a little preview for the ~tumblr crew~ but at some point, i'm going to be cosplaying p2 (the guy in the middle) from ubu love!
i know it's not picture-accurate, but i really wanted to add a touch of myself into the costume and that means changing out the pants for a skirt and wearing glitter combat boots.
honestly, not a bad first just dance cosplay! all i'm missing here is the green glove (which will most likely be handmade)
I don’t know if you follow kpop Did you hear about Johnny and associates 478 victims have come forward just makes me sick like it was an open secret that kids were being abused but now the company will be force to address it years after the scum died
Johnny's is Jpop, not Kpop, and yes I used to follow it closely when I was a teenager but not anymore since becoming an adult 😅 however, I've heard quite a few things about this scandal and it's deeply disturbing, especially the fact that it went on for DECADES (like, since the 80's if I'm not mistaken?). I wasn't much surprised though that the industry and the media knew about it but refused to expose it in fear of getting pulverized by Johnny Kitagawa. J&A is literally the biggest idol machine back then, and their practices have been known to be the most strict and cruel. they have leverage over everything, ergo several businesses and people are at their mercy.
it's truly sickening just reading the bits and pieces of the case. I have yet to watch the BBC documentary that broke the dam open earlier this year, but once I do, I'll post more about it. the only thing I can really say now is how awful it is that the old man who did all this is now rotting in hell before paying for the crimes he did on this earth.
I have been rereading this manga almost yearly for the past 15 years and had never bothered figuring out the meaning of this quote before -guess I assumed "Johnny" was a jpop boys band name.
Now, I finally know, thanks to you 😁
I absolutely love that my pop culture blogging has been useful in your life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no idea what manga this is. The art style looks almost like 1990s or early 2000s? What is this?
When you first sent me this ask some days ago, I remember my brain went on a whole tangent. but yeah. The agency itself is just as famous as the entertainers they produce, so any average Japanese reader automatically knows what Johnny's is. Johnny Kitagawa established his business so well that at least while he was still alive, he had enough influence to practically control what tabloids and newspapers published about them. And man, was he controlling about image use and distribution of content related to the company's stars. As a longtime janiwota (Johnny's Otaku 😅), I'm so proud to see entertainers from Johnny's on Netflix now! The idea of Johnny's performing for an international audience felt like a pipedream, for real for real, with them only finally being allowed to have their own YouTube accounts in 2020. after Johnny-san passed away.
Here's my tangent lol
I have no doubt that if Johnny's Jimusho had been smarter about taking advantage of social media sooner, they would be just as big as kpop is now. Are they as talented...? Generally no, but that's because they don't work their Juniors to the bone pre-debut, they foster a family atmosphere within the agency without pitting Juniors against each other, Juniors continue their schooling, and they train them in acting, acrobatics, and variety comedy rather than only focusing on dance and song. It's way healthier from what I can tell!
