"Now...will you take the job? No one will recognize you, I am sure. No one ever recognizes you, it would appear."
Moist shrugged. "Oh, all right. Of course, I accept as a natural-born criminal, habitual liar, fraudster, and totally untrustworthy perverted genius."
"Capital! Welcome to government service!" said Lord Vetinari, extending his hand. "I pride myself on being able to pick the right man."

I hate job descriptions that sound like they were written by conartists who don't know what the job is.
Responsibilities:
Nurture enriching atmosphere to further solidify relationships
Overcome objections and thrive in fast paced situations
Perform high-quality and professional demonstrations of skill
Nothing but buzzwords, "families is where wings take dream!"

Salary transparency in the hiring process has become my sacred battleground. Few things get this money nerd’s hackles up like the unfair, unethical, and straight up bullshit practice of salary secrecy. This righteous fury is bursting out of me and it can no longer be contained!
Because let’s be honest: no one gets a job because they’re enthusiastic about the contents of the company’s vending machine or the color of its cubicle walls. We work jobs for the compensation. We work to earn an income that will support ourselves and our families. Money, health insurance, retirement funds… all of this is far more important to a job candidate than anything else an employer has to say in the job description.
Job candidates want to know they can afford to work a job before they apply. They don’t want to wait through two interviews and a job offer to find out if the compensation will pay their rent and student loans. To pretend otherwise is ludicrous, irresponsible, naïve, and insulting.
So put a salary range in the job description, you fucking cowards.

I don't know why I felt the urge to share this but here it is, a recent job description I've been looking at.
Tumblr media
My thoughts reading:
If you don't think money is people's motivation to work you are living under a rock because too many people are struggling to live, pay bills, afford food, afford housing for money to not be the reason to apply
What difficulties? Life is hard enough. If I have to risk my health and safety for a job (which I've already had to...twice) I'm not doing it
Same to you buddy. Does your company take ownership for the treatment of your employees? Do you provide fair pay and care for them?
Again. Back at you. Has your company absorbed the recent events in realizing that people aren't gonna put up with certain things anymore and adjusted accordingly?
Sweetheart, if people leave because the grass is greener elsewhere you may need to take better care of your lawn and realize the issues that don't make it look green.
I already make decisions every day, doesn't mean I love it
How hard and how crazy? Again, I ain't putting up with certain things
Always down to learn, what are we learning?
If I had a dime... no a penny, for every company that mentions being cool or unique in someway... I wouldn't be looking for a job right now.
Growth is constant. I'm ok with responsibilities as long as I'm paid accordingly. Don't pull the doing the work of xyz and not pay me for xyz.
Anyway. Hope everyone is doing well. Please remember to take care of yourself first and to make sure companies get the message. It's not that people don't want to work anymore, it's people don't want to work for certain companies and under certain conditions anymore. Happy Monday 🙃

It’s called a healthy work/life balance. Why should you take on projects outside of your job description? Why should you answer emails at 9pm at night?

Why can't we find someone to fill this role?
Maybe the 75-bullet job description that seems to ask for everything ever done in the history of advertising has clued people into the fact that you are an unreasonable boss. Let's start there.

People expected all kinds of things from coppers, but there was one thing that sooner or later they all wanted: make this not be happening.

Fuck shitty small businesses that don't post their salary range, and then have the nerve to say I'm rude for asking to know before I apply when I call.
(I tried to be nice by asking what the range was, and saying I noticed it wasn't on the job listing following it up with that must have been an honest mistake)
YEAH, FUCK 'EM. This goes for businesses of ANY size!
You weren't rude. They just got defensive when they realized they were being dicks.

o listener mine,
i'll let you in on a little secret.
see, i hate to rub it in, but i have the best job.
i get to work with flowers and plants, see little critters and be out in nature, watch as robins and sparrows hatch, see the flowers germinate and bloom.
my greenhouse is large and spacious, with good benches and landscaping fabric floors and curtains for shade. i have few hills to battle and relatively mild summer heat and humidity. the plumbing is logical and easy to use, potting and planting are worker-friendly, and i'm able to work smart rather than always having to work hard.
i get to do a large variety of tasks, from planting seedlings to restocking merchandise to weeding our landscaping to making pickups to sorting recycling to making winter wreaths to arranging combo pots to cutting bouquets to doing greenhouse repairs.
my coworkers are good-natured and hard-working, wise and knowledgeable, and easy to talk to. we look after each other, and they teach me about the job, the greenhouse, the plants, the animals, and the history of our little working abode.
i can put my earphones in and listen to music and podcasts and books for hours, or take them out and hear the birds and frogs, the fans and wind, the traffic and trains.
i don't have to deal with angry or entitled customers, working back in production where there's peace and serenity. my work is uninterrupted by questions or foot traffic.
i've been blessed to work year-round, not having to budget and save for those winter months or find another job altogether.
i didn't have to sit in a classroom, feel the pressures of finals week, or carry heavy debts with me to get into the field.
and i get to live an active, healthy lifestyle, building muscle and being warmed by the sun, breathing in fresh air and working with soil and greenery.
my work is filled with passion and meraki, it's mentally-stimuating and fun, my manager is smart and kind, and as a bonus i have employee discounts on all the plants my heart desires.
but shhh...
don't tell anyone i told you this, or they'll want my job, too.
busily yours,
~ 🐝
