but he just won’t rest; he keeps looking for his dada who, right now, is on the other side of the world annihilating curses in order to protect his little dumpling.

you open your arms and seishiro immediately walk-bounces towards you, clinging onto you tightly like a koala. “let’s sleep now, seishi, please?”

you know your husband doesn’t get much sleep anyways so you close your eyes as you acquiesce. “okay, baby. mama will call dada but you promise you’ll sleep right after?”

satoru coos, “dada misses you too, dumpling. but you need to sleep. mama and seishi need to rest.”

you see your baby pout on the screen, “but… seishi wants to sleep with dada…”

your husband’s face fell, feeling a tad guilty for always being away from his son. you continue holding the gadget, soothing the sad boy in your arms.

“how about dada reads seishi a story, hm? do you want dada to read momotaro?”

the toddler squeals, leaving your lap to climb down his crib and grab the white book from one of the short bookshelves.

“the old woman looked up from her work and saw this large peach,” your husband says using his narrator voice—it sounds very much like his own voice, just with better diction.

seishiro is still lying on his back on your abdomen, head resting on your chest as he holds the book open for his father to read (although you’re pretty sure satoru has that story memorized considering how much he reads that since his son was a baby).

“how delicious that peach must be! i must certainly get it and take it home to my old man,” his voice is now exaggeratedly raised into a ridiculous higher pitch, trying to mimic how a 60-year-old woman sounds.

your baby giggles upon hearing his voice, looking up and pointing at you before saying, “mama!”

your mouth hangs open, slightly offended at the toddler’s remark. you hear your husband laugh as he eggs seishiro more, “mama sounds like that, dumpling?”

it came to the part where the old woman would have to sing, leading to your son on your lap to start clapping his hands as he sings with his father.

“distant water is bitter, 

the neaw watew is sweet; 

pass by the distant water 

an' come into the sweeeet!"

you’re unable to clap using both hands so you just repeatedly tap your one hand into your baby’s thigh, sleepily mumbling yay as you do. your husband also cheers, "my dumpling's such a great singer!"

at this point, you can see seishiro fighting off his sleepiness as he continues listening to his father.

"what is the matter? why are you so impatient?" he used a ragged voice this time, like typical old men in anime. your baby just continues to giggle, finding every voice satoru makes interesting. 

"wait a bit, old man!" your husband tried making his voice little but loud, now imitating momotaro who just came out of the peach.

the boy in your lap raises his hand, putting both on either of his hips and huffs as to imitate a child momotaro.

"...and the treasure momotaro had brought home with him enabled them to live in peace and plenty to the end of their days," your husband ends in his normal voice.

he lifts his blindfold up and you see him gazing lovingly at his son now peacefully asleep on your chest. he then pressed a kiss onto his camera and softly smiles, "nighty night, my dumpling. dada loves you very much."
