The Lord, Your Shepherd is Near

A psalm of David

💜 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever. ~Psalm 23:1-6 ✝️

Today's psalm, perhaps the most famous in the scriptures, reminds us how much God cares for us. Especially during times of vulnerability and when we are experiencing times in the valley. God watches over us, like a faithful shepherd looks after his sheep.

In every season, Jesus, your shepherd, is with you. Yes, He is a Savior that fights for you, but He is also a shepherd who cares for you. As He lays you down in green pastures, and puts you beside still waters - He promises to be with you. Down in the valley and up on the mountain top, He is with you.

In the waiting room, in the dental chair. At the cemetery and in the delivery room - God promises to never leave you nor forsake you.

As we truly absorb this truth in our hearts, as we understand who He is and who we have available to us, we can be assured that we will lack nothing, and in Him, we have gained absolutely everything we need.

Why? Because you lack nothing whenbyou have a good shepherd by your side.

Your good shepherd guides, provides, corrects and protects. Refuse to follow the imposter shepherds of certainty, independence and pride. Instead, follow the good shepherd who will lead you to have an open mind, open hands and an open heart before Him.

You see, we don’t go around preaching about ourselves. We preach that Jesus Christ is Lord, and we ourselves are your servants for Jesus’ sake. A Heart of Gratitude

💜 For many of us, being grateful does not come naturally. It's certainly not a default response, but something that needs to be nurtured in our daily walk with God.

Complaining comes all too easily and so does self-pity. Grumbling and mumbling our way through problems doesn't mix well with God's command in today's passage: to be thankful in all circumstances.

God has given each of us so many blessings, but these gifts alone are not enough to bring us lasting joy. His gifts must be combined with our gratitude. If we don't turn our blessings into praise on our lips, then our blessings could turn into pride in our hearts. Gratitude isn't just a feeling. It's a practice and it must be cultivated daily until it becomes a lifestyle.

Gratitude seems to multiply God's blessing. It somehow makes what we have go further, but have you taken time to notice just what you've been given? What blessings might we have missed simply because we have taken things for granted? Have we failed to give God praise for all He has done for us?

Gratitude is a small practice that can make a big difference in our lives.

Choose to verbalize your thankfulness! Share about how good God has been to you! Everything in our walk with God begins with being thankful. Which is why Paul instructs us to be thankful in everything! God's heart will always be stirred by our gratitude.

As your cup overflows with thankfulness, the joy will spill out to others.

We must display through our lives that being joyful isn't what makes us grateful. It is by being grateful that makes us joyful. So let us choose to rejoice joyfully, pray continually, and be thankful in all circumstances this year!✝️

Jesus said to his disciples:

An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.

But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil.

When someone strikes you on your right cheek,

turn the other one as well.

If anyone wants to go to law with you over your tunic,

hand over your cloak as well.

Should anyone press you into service for one mile,

go for two miles.

Give to the one who asks of you,

and do not turn your back on one who wants to borrow.

"You have heard that it was said,

You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.

But I say to you, love your enemies

and pray for those who persecute you,

that you may be children of your heavenly Father,

for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,

and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.

For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?

Do not the tax collectors do the same?

And if you greet your brothers only,

what is unusual about that?

Do not the pagans do the same?
