The most annoying part of the canon v fanon Sirius debate is that canon Sirius never had a romantic partner but people will insist that he does. I’ve seen bullying over this and that’s when the debate stops being a bit of fun y’know?
I think that we need to let people come up with their own ideas! Bullying is never okay. As I previously mentioned, while we get a reasonable amount of backstory regarding Sirius, he’s most definitely NOT the main character in the series.
Just because we don’t get information about his love life, or lack thereof, doesn’t prove or disprove what his sexual orientation was and whether or not he was interested in dating/sex etc?
JKR clearly says that canon Sirius is not gay for Remus. She more or less invented Remadora to prove this point as apparently lots of HP fans were convinced Wolfstar was canon (but it being the 1990s etc, they thought that she couldn’t say it openly) and she wasn’t happy about it.
I genuinely think all options can be defended:
Asexuality/ace spectrum/Grey-A (canon says he had no interest in girls/boys looking at him and no GF/BF is mentioned in the books)
Gay (for RJL - the whole “embraced like bros, Lie Low At Lupin’s, 40 line stare, buying presents together” etc)
Straight (he’s got posters of muggle women and motorbikes on his wall)
Bi/pan (both of the last two)
Personally I’ve read really excellent ace!Sirius and Blackinnon fics. And as you probably know, I personally think of Wolfstar as canon. @plecotusauritus explains it really well in a humerous post:
Tumblr media
Plus, they are the star (brightest star Sirius) and moon (Moony) in canon. And JKR herself confirmed lycanthropy = equivalent of AIDS in 1980s etc (yeah I know, it’s not great and in fact terrible/horrible comparison when you add Greyback etc; but anyway the AIDS link unwittingly despite herself gave Remus a non-straight background, in fact the way she wrote Remus and Sirius had the director assume Wolfstar was canon!)
Having said all that, in canon, while the classmate was ogling Sirius, he was completely oblivious of her interest as he was too busy staring at James Potter. Ahem. Make of that what you will…!
I completely respect you thinking he never had a romantic partner. Who knows? JKR says that he was too busy playing hard/messing with his bros on his flying motorbike and fighting a war to want any serious relationship. She doesn’t confirm did he have one night stands or other types of encounters. And most people at this stage don’t really care what JKR thinks of Sirius.
The whole point of fandom and shipping and fanfics is to imagine/reimagine all the massive gaps in our knowledge of a character. It’s ok not to stick to the canon info, otherwise the fics we read would be extremely limited, short, and all very similar and boring after a while. I personally prefer when a character’s personality isn’t changed completely (ie when they retain the features that make them recognisable from the original story). But I am very happy to alter other aspects of them - like their race, colour, sexuality, religion etc. Also if you are writing a comedic piece, the characters will not be written the same way as when you write a more dramatic/in depth/ Angsty fic or a very fluffy one?
Everyone should feel free to use their imagination and also not worry about people bullying them for their alternative views. We should all be secure enough in our views that we don’t feel the need to bully others who disagree with us. I’m sorry if that’s happened to you or to people you know 💗💗💗💗💗💗

[Image ID: Black and white GIF of Phryne Fisher from the opening scenes of the episode Blood and Money. The image shows her head and upper torso as she stands outdoors. She wears a sequined evening gown and fancy headdress. /End ID]
While it is very funny that, at the start of Blood and Money, Phryne shows up to the morgue in her outfit from the night before, I was recently thinking about why she wouldn’t get changed??? We know she loves to have the perfect outfit for all situations and see her make some pretty quick changes in other episodes. There’s no reason to delay getting to the morgue by, what, 10-15 minutes? It’s not like the body will go anywhere.
But, then I consider that she’s got a young boy sat in her kitchen, scared because his brother is missing, now thought to be dead. She’s been almost exactly where he is and spent agonising years in search of answers. You bet she’ll be damned if she makes him wait a moment longer than he has to for closure, especially at the cost of something so frivalous as her clothes 😭

[kicks open the door I just closed] AND ANOTHER THING
when a ghoul is turning feral, they say their name. they repeat it, over and over. "Roger. My name is Roger." like a chant. to remind themselves who they are. to hold onto the last bit of humanity they have left, because maybe if they hold tight enough, they can beat it. or maybe they can just hold on until help comes.
Cooper wasn't just distracting Roger so he could get a clean shot. He was reminding Roger of something good. BlamCo Mac & Cheese. His mom's apple pie.
When someone can't be saved, you don't want them to just focus on the fact that it's over. It's done. Waiting in that anxious fear for their every breath, because they don't know if it will be their last. Or, in Roger's case - and the case for any Ghouls out there still surviving - their last moments of control.
The sad fact of the matter is that, feral ghouls are still alive. They're not zombies. They hunger, they drool, they eat, but they can hide, too. They can gather. Being feral isn't dying, it's worse. They've not even just gone to base instincts - they've lost any and all sense of self preservation. They can sprint and throw themselves at prey because the body has simply become a vehicle for that hunger.
They don't hide or gather to stay safe. They do it because it's easier to take down someone if they're surprised and outnumbered. So yes, a feral ghoul can think. But only insofar that they can find a way to feed that hunger.
But even animals have some sense of self-preservation. (Unless, of course, they're rabid.)
To be feral is to experience such complete ego death that a person has no sense of identity outside of hunger and fear. So they try to hold onto control by reminding themselves who they are. "I am Roger." And so, it's not too far of a stretch to say that a person's humanity lies within their memories.
Cooper asked Roger if he remembered what food tasted like, back when he could taste. Before the radiation and necrosis. As most people know, certain senses like taste and smell can trigger a stronger memory than any words or chants.
What Cooper did to Roger was a mercy. It was simple. It wasn't a countdown or closing his eyes, just so that the last thing Roger could feel is fear. He reminded Roger of something good, like the taste of apple pie. Of his mom. Of being a kid again. Ghouls are people, but for those last few seconds, Roger was the most human he'd probably been in twenty-eight years.
And so what's going to happen when the Ghoul runs out of vials? Not Cooper, but the Ghoul. The character. The facade Cooper Howard has been wearing like a second skin. It's wrinkled, irradiated, and necrotic, but it's tight. It's safe. It's kept him alive. To survive, he willfully distanced himself from his humanity and became a monster. Cooper Howard didn't die. He's been buried in alive in a coffin for centuries, feeding off of scraps. But he put himself in there.
So when the Ghoul runs out of vials, he'll do what they all do when they're trying to hold on. They'll hold on to their humanity by tooth and nail. "I am Cooper."
It clicks in her head, subtler than a light switch. She should be happy. She should be ecstatic! She's meeting her favourite hero from her childhood! But all she can feel is sadness. She saw what her mother became, and she quickly proved to the Ghoul that she can put him down when the time comes. If she can do that for her mother, she can do that for him.
It'll be the first time anyone who didn't know him before the bombs ever hears his name. The first time Lucy connects who the Ghoul is to who Cooper Howard was, back when he was human.
Maybe it's the scent of his wife's perfume. Maybe it's the taste of hot coco. Or maybe it's Janey. Just Janey. In any form, any memory. So Lucy does that for him. And after two centuries, Cooper Howard finally remembers how it felt to be human. If only for a few moments.
But how will she give Cooper those last seconds of humanity? Does she think he deserves it? Fuck deserving it, she'll decide to do it just because it's the kindest thing to do. But she didn't know him before. Didn't know his favourite tastes and smells. But she can probably guess.
[record scratch]
I don't want to end it on that. It's too much, even for me. Cooper Howard remembers his humanity and holds on long enough. He's saved. (Hey, Maximus carries RadAway, maybe he can carry other drugs.)
Now Cooper has to sit and deal with the tidal wave that is his humanity fully resurfacing so strongly after several lifetimes. The Ghoul has done a lot of things Cooper would disapprove of. More bad things than any good things he ever did when he was human. But they were all choices he made. Cooper's always been there. Just below the surface. He buried himself in that coffin. And what's more monstrous - to kill and be cruel to survive, or to hide from the responsibility and act like it was someone else all those times? Who is the monster, the Ghoul or Cooper Howard?
Inner turmoil. GIVE ME INNER TURMOIL.
meanwhile, Lucy can lose sleep over the idea that you should never meet your heroes. That maybe she likes the monster, better - but she doesn't know which is which either. They find themselves. They find each other. They find themselves inside of each other. Cannibalism, vore, allegory, etc, etc. they find his dick inside her. Happy ending. fuck you. fuck me!

Dancing Barefoot
Pairing: Joel Miller x fem!reader
Author’s note: this was slightly self-indulgent because Patti Smith is my personal god also baby Miller should be arriving in the next fic but this idea was stuck in my head and I HAD to write it
Summary: “I’ll never finish falling in love with you.” - Nicole Williams, Collared aka Joel helps you and the baby sleep ~800 words
Warnings: a little bittersweet, talks of Janey girl and Sarah bear, brief brief brief mention of a strained parent/child relationship, pregnancy, tooth rotting fluff
Tumblr media
The moonlight streams from the windows, and the birds chirp sleepily outside. Ellie is safe in her bed, and Joel is lying on his right side beside you, occasionally mumbling something you never quite catch. You should be asleep. The baby should be asleep; instead, they're using you as their punching bag. You've been tossing and turning for thirty minutes, making the baby toss and turn just as much. You sigh and rub your face like it will be enough to soothe you and the baby to sleep.
"Can't sleep?" Joel mumbles, and you look at his back. You didn't even know he was awake, but you nod at the ceiling.
"Your kid is doing laps."
"Why is it my kid when he's misbehaving?" He asks as he turns to face you. His hair is a mess, and his eyes are heavy with sleep, but his hand still manages to find your bump in the dark. "Let your mama sleep." He says, poking at your stomach.
"I don't think poking our baby in the face is going to get them to sleep," you say, and he hums, half-asleep. You run your fingers through his curls and smile when he cuddles closer to you. "I think they want a song."
"The baby wants a song, or you want a song?"
"Both." You say. You catch the pull of his lips in the moonlight before he kisses your temple. He sighs as he gets out of bed and grabs his guitar from the corner. He perches on the edge of your bed shirtless, his silver scars on display without shame, and you remember each story associated with them— ghosts of the people you were before baby bumps and shared last names.
"What d'you want to hear?" He asks, strumming a few times to check the tuning.
"Do you know any Patti Smith?" You ask, and he turns to give you a look. "What? I had a life before you." He chuckles, and you lean against your headboard, hands resting on your swollen belly. He looks at the frets like they're an equation for a few slow moments before the familiar ballad fills the space. You smile as he quietly sings the words, mouthing them as he goes.
Little Miller seems to realize their dad is singing because you feel them move in time with the strums. If this kid loves music already, we're going to need more records, you think. You imagine little hands reaching for the guitar as Ellie or Joel play, adding their own dissonant sound to the song previously being played. Maybe you could hire someone in town to make tiny instruments for them to play with once they're big enough. The idea of a little jam circle with Ellie, Joel, and the baby makes your heart sing. As the song ends, Joel looks at you expectantly, his dark brown eyes meeting yours. The tiny heartbeat under your ribs has settled, only occasionally kicking to let you know they're still alive.
"Like clockwork," you say, and he smiles, gently placing the guitar back in its corner. "As judgy as you were with my request, you pulled that out pretty fast."
"I had a life before you," he echoes, and you roll your eyes as he slides back into bed with you. "Sarah didn't like most of the music I played in the truck, but she liked Patti."
"Smart girl."
"What music did Jane like?" He asks, and the way he says her name makes you want to cry. He says it as if it were holy and sacred because it always will be to you. You smile and cuddle close to him. His arms envelop you in warmth, and his smell surrounds you, and you feel safe.
"She was an old soul. She liked ABBA, Fleetwood Mac, and Janis Joplin. I'm convinced we played the Pearl album more than any other person on the planet," you say, kissing his shoulder. "Thank you for always asking about her."
"I like hearing about her," he says as if he were pointing out constellations— easy and undeniable. Her dad didn't even want to hear about her, and now this man who had never met her asks about her because you loved her. Because you still love her, and he loves you. This time, you do cry. You blame it on pregnancy hormones and a lack of sleep, but Joel knows it's something more. He kisses your tears away and rubs soothing circles into your back. "She'll always have a place in our home, d'you hear me?" He asks softly, and you nod.
You fall asleep in his arms that night and almost every night, but this time you dream of little feet standing on your kitchen table, dancing along to Janis Joplin's crooning. You dream of teasing Jane's hair to match Stevie Nicks’ on the cover of her Bella Donna album. You dream of the day she came home, suddenly detesting ballet and wanting to take drum lessons instead. Something tells you she left some of her rockstar energy with you, and the new baby is taking it all in— pieces of her left in so much more than just your memory now.

‘is someone sleepy’ with planymphia 🥹
“I have absolutely no idea why you agreed to this,” Jane said under her breath as she shut the front door, leaving her and Nymphia alone with their coworker’s toddler, the little boy babbling and poking Nymphia’s cheek as she held him.
“Oh, stop it, Janey, it’ll be fine! Look, he’s so cute!” Nymphia said happily, holding him out for Jane to see.
Jane looked at the child, his chubby cheeks and wild curls were quite cute but as soon as she reached out to take him from Nymphia, she retracted her hands, imagining that she’d drop him on his head. “He’s cute, but children and I do not mix well.”
Nymphia rolled her eyes. “It’s only a couple hours, we’ll be fine. Here,” she said, handing him off to Jane, who took him awkwardly, holding him away from her body, “take him into the living room and find something for him to watch while I go make us lunch.”
The baby looked at Jane and she looked at him, almost immediately he burst into tears, forcing Jane to pull him closer to her, bouncing him on her hip like she’d seen Nymphia do. “Nymphia! He’s crying!”
“Put on that kid’s show with the dog, Bluey or something!”
Jane huffed, carrying the crying child to the couch and setting him down while he still sobbed. “Okay, okay, don’t cry, it’s gonna be fine,” she promised, assuring herself more than the kid.
She searched through Disney plus until she found the show Nymphia told her about and put it on, sighing when relief when the kid stopped crying and clapped his hands. Flopping back down on the couch, she sighed, though he’d only cried for a minute or two, she was glad it was over. Though, the feeling of anxiety returned when the kid climbed in her lap, Jane freezing.
“Oh look how cute!” Nymphia cooed when she entered the living room with a bowl of microwave Mac and cheese.
“Haha, yeah, so cute. Can you take him now?”
“Be nice,” Nymphia warned, though she had a smile on her face, “here, buddy, let’s sit and eat.”
The toddler whined, clinging onto Jane.
“He likes you.”
Jane sighed, swallowing her discomfort. “Okay, okay, fine, just don’t get any food on me.”
“Babe, I hate to break it to you but if you want to stay clean you’re gonna have to help him.”
The baby looked up at her with big eyes and something ever so slightly tugged on Jane’s heartstrings. “Fine.”
Nymphia watched with a warmth in her chest as Jane fed him.
“See, you are good with kids,” Nymphia said softly once he’d eaten and was resting against Jane’s chest, eyelids growing heavy.
A gentle smile on her face, Jane shrugged. “Maybe he’s not so bad. He is kind of cute,” she said, looking down at him and cooing, “is someone getting sleepy?”
He yawned in response, tucking himself under Jane’s chin before falling asleep. Nymphia switched off the tv and turned her attention toward her girlfriend. “Do you think you’ll ever want kids of your own?”
Feeling a bit taken aback by the question, Jane shrugged again. She never thought much about the possibility. When she first came out, her mother had told her how disappointed she was that Jane would never have any children and until Nymphia, Jane never saw herself settling down enough to think about that anyhow.
“I don’t know,” Jane admitted, lacing her fingers with Nymphia’s, “I used to say never but I also said I’d never fall in love with anyone either, so you never know. What about you?”
“I don’t know either but I don’t think I’d want to have kids with anyone but you.”!

I had to make some art @kammieceleek‘s awesome fic, Bride of the Monster Duke. Willow and Hunter are forced into an arranged marriage and Willow has to move to the wild and freezing North. But our girl starts to thrive in the North.   Here in the pic they're spending some quality time together while Hunter show's Willow around her new home. And I swear, these two dorks are so adorably awkward around each other as they slowly start to fall for one another. Janey mac it's just so cute so it is!! And it's not just the Huntlow content that is flipping fantastic, this whole AU is amazing. The plot, the world building and characterizations, chef kiss! Mwah!  It's so good. Seriously people, stop what you're doing and go read this fic. It's amazing so it is! I can’t wait for the story to continue. https://archiveofourown.org/works/39451467/chapters/98737587 Lastly, I did not draw the background. It's a screenshot from the show.

RTC headcanons: Penny/Jane Doe Edition!
FOR CONTEXT! I don’t believe the Penny from RTC is Penny Lamb from Legoland, so headcanons about her will probably be skewed compared to Legoland canon :)
Penny has so many bandaids everywhere. Her arms, her nose, her legs. It’s not that she gets into a bunch of fights but she’s just so clumsy and never looks before she leaps
Penny can play the ukulele, guitar, and violin. She loves string instruments and has had a few duets with Noel
Penny wasn’t always strictly religious, but over time she found comfort in religion. She still supports people outside her religion and is genuinely kind to all
Jane Doe had around a few hours before the rest of the choir was brought to the warehouse, so she asked Karnak who she could possibly be, even trying to get any former fortune he could have given her, only to come up short
When Penny first arrived at Uranium her mothers gave her a new doll. It was a crocheted doll of herself, and although she did adore it, she preferred her parents’ vintage doll with blond curls and big black eyes
When Penny died, she had her doll tucked in her uniform, so Jane Doe, after realizing she was in limbo, found the one thing that she felt drawn to and used it as her own head
Penny is a lesbian, and had the biggest crush on Constance before they died. She also developed a crush on Ricky, but she was too shy to tell either of them
Jane Doe is a cat fanatic, something she doesn’t understand, but Penny loved all breeds of cats and that love made it to Jane
Penny will eat cheese with anything. Like her mac and cheese obsession, she just really loves cheese. The others are genuinely worried for her gut, but she assures them it’s fine (it’s not)
Jane Doe only has feelings relating to Penny’s life, no memories. As such, when she says, “No parents came” a stab of pain shot in her chest, for reasons she never understood
After Penny came back, it took her some time to remember who she was. But as Jane Doe had no recollection of her life, Penny now has no recollection of her death. She doesn’t know why the choir means so much to her if she wasn’t so close with much of them
Penny actually went up to Ricky and signed a little for him when they met. She just signed “Hi, I’m Penny!” and she and Ricky became really fast friends
Penny never understood why Noel loved old French movies, but she does enjoy watching them with him, he gets so excited and dramatic and it makes her laugh
Pen and Mischa never really interacted when they were alive. Sometimes she’d tell him some fun facts and sometimes he’d help her out with bullies, but they didn’t really have that much of a connection
Penny avoided being a subject of Ocean’s superiority complex by just doing whatever she asked, being quick to comply, so Ocean never said anything about her
Penny was bullied a lot for being adopted, but she always brushed it off with a quick-witted response and sometimes she’ll punch someone in the nose
Penny is the definition of luck. Last minute exam studying? She’ll have perfect marks in the end. Forgot something important? There’s always a chance Penny will have it or will find an easy way to get it. Lost something? Penny will look around for .98 seconds and find exactly what you’re looking for
If Pen was incredibly lucky, Janey is incredibly unlucky. As she’s the opposite of Penny, everything around her always fails and never works the way she wishes
Penny’s mothers were devastated when they learned their daughter wasn’t coming back from the fairground. They told everyone in Uranium about Penny, but no one seemed to remember her, or really care. When Penny came back, this never existed as she was surprisingly the sole survivor of the accident
Penny always regretted covering her face in pictures after she came back, because her memories with the choir were few, and any picture she saw of them with her always had her hand or an object covering her face
Jane Doe was aroace, yet felt an urge to be around Constance and Ricky. After Ricky gave her a name, Savannah, a feeling similar to friendship formed in her chest, is if she knew Ricky, as if she cared for them
For Penny’s seventeenth birthday, she had a masquerade-esqe party and asked every guest to wear a mask. The choir complied and came in masks and had a wonderful time. Penny didn’t tell anyone it was because of her hatred of seeing herself in pictures, but when she looked back on the pictures of that night, there was one where all six of the choir’s faces were revealed, including her own, laughing with them. That now is her favorite picture, and she keeps it with her forever

Apartment 9 - Influencer!Buck AU - Chapter 12
General Audiences | Eddie Diaz & Evan Buckley | Word Count 1393
Evan paced around Athena and Bobby’s spare room, Maddie sat on the edge of the bed.
“This feels like senior prom all over again.” Maddie laughs, “I wonder what Janey is doing now?”
Evan looked back at her for a second as he pulled on his shirt, “I’ve never been this nervous in my life.”
Maddie smiles, “You’re in love baby brother,  that’s why.”
“What if I end up like dad?” Evan whispers.
That was Evan’s worst fear, ending up like his father.
“Never going to happen.” Maddie states, standing up and walking towards her brother. “You have the kindest and purest heart of any person I have ever met, now let me fix your hair and get you married.”
Eddie looked around the garden, everyone he loved sat in front of him - their faces smiling from ear to ear, he was sure his heart was going to stop when he saw Evan coming down the aisle towards him.
Christopher stood next to his dad as the introduction to Fleetwood Mac’s Songbird echoed around Bobby and Athena’s yard.
They didn’t want any of the typical wedding nonsense, none of the ‘dearly beloved’
“He’s coming dad.” Chris whispers, taking Eddie’s hand in his.
“You ready bud?” Eddie asks, “This is it.”

Phrack Pirate AU
so I'm a huge fan of taking phrases in Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries literally (e.g. "you are fox spirit", "there's something wild about you, child") so I'd have loved to make the Pirate Girls of Collingwood a thing, but it's hard for me to reconcile the show's tone and dynamics with historical context here. BUT! this is an ask game, so I needn't do that. So: instead of going to England to become an 18th-century Lady, Phryne runs away to sea. It starts off as a quest to avenge Janey's murder at the hands of notorious pirate Murdoch Foyle and evolves into her commanding her own ship ("the Silver Lady") and robbing wealthy merchantmen on the high seas (she continues to go about in disguise in high society so she can get hold of shipping schedules and plot her raids). Mr Butler is her quartermaster. Mac is the ship's doctor, because it's the only place where she can practise medicine without stigma. Cec and Bert were poached from whalers, Bert because of the better remuneration, Cec because whaling really was not for him. Dot was being transported for murdering John Andrews (most historical Australian pirates were escaped convicts) before Phryne and crew snaffle her. She's not actually any good at piracy but she keeps the Silver Lady ship-shape. Jane just stows away on board and never leaves. Jack is the unfortunate naval officer tasked with bringing the Dread Pirate Fisher to justice, but she always escapes him at the last minute, and he's beginning to wonder if he really wants to bring her in (his subordinate Hugh gets kidnapped by the Fisher crew at one point and somehow completely suborned, to Jack's chagrin). There's a lot of erotic swordfighting. It'll probably end with Phryne killing Foyle but getting captured as a result and sent to face the King's justice but Jack has a last-minute change of heart, rescues her from the gallows and they sail off into the sunset to, I guess, commit more piracy. Someone else can write this
Leave an AU and a pairing in my ask and I’ll give you the plot of the fic I won’t write for it.

Getting back on my Miss Fisher bullshit
Because I’ve rewatched the whole series and film since Christmas and I have opinions on, amongst other things...
Jack Robinson, sir.  Your face.
Whhhhhy if Dot and Hugh was a blatant end game did they for some reason undo every step of Hugh’s character growth that makes for a believably and realistically longterm happy marriage between them by the following episode
The clothes, the staging, the art 😍
Jack Robinson’s eyebrows.  Obviously technically a part of his face, but I feel they deserve special recognition for the service they provide
New addendum to my previously accepted headcanon (I think courtesy of @firesign23) that Crypt of Tears takes place a chunk of time after series 3, during which Phryne and Jack had a relationship that fell apart...I think I’ve now decided CoT is an AU that takes place assuming they had their gaudy night somewhere at the end of series one/early series two, before they’d spent the better part of another year (or more?  In-show timelines continue to baffle) carefully exploring each others walls, and that was what inevitably fell apart and led to the start of CoT.  The show timeline instead leads into @fahye‘s A Series of Optical Illusions and the lines “his eyes, once thus unshielded, are focused on the pistol in a manner more exasperated than wary” and also “Jack's arms are tight around her waist and her back and he exhales against her hair, long and slow, like he's been holding on to it for an ocean's worth of time“ and I dare anyone to argue on that with me
The clothes, again, and most specifically, the embroidered coat in Marked for Murder
Aunt Prudence would also have said “fuck you, bastard” to Jeremy Hunt
Mac is actually not the coroner for the majority of the series??!!
Someone wrote a ficlet about Jack coming to England to meet Miss Fisher and discuss her sister’s murder and the gutpunch twist at the end was that it was Miss Janey Fisher he was meeting and I cannot find the story anywhere and this saddens me
And finally, circling back round once more to Jack Robinson’s face

songs that make me think of being human characters (because yes this show creeps into absolutely anything else I enjoy)
World in My Eyes by Depeche Mode - Mitchell
Ok first of all Dave Gahan in the 90s really reminds me of Aidan Turner so there's that as something more obvious. But I always picture Mitchell singing this to Josie. The lyrics of "Let me show you the world in my eyes" reminds me of Mitchell bringing human women into his world, letting them get to know the real vampiric him, and letting them help him. For decades, Josie saw the world in Mitchell's eyes while Mitchell for seemingly the first time since becoming a vampire saw the world as a human once again.
Also the song is quite clearly about sex (even as an asexual I can see that) and we've seen multiple times how sex is associated with blood for Mitchell. He bites Lauren in 1x01 during sex and then feeding becomes intertwined with sex with both Lauren (since they feed on each other) and with Daisy (since they have sex while still covered in victims' blood and lick each others' fingers). Lines like "I'll take you to the highest mountain / To the depths of the deepest sea / And we won't need a map, believe me" seems like metaphors for sex but it also makes me think about how as a vampire, Mitchell is capable of traversing so much more of the world since he has so much time to spare.
Sinking by The Cure - George
So I could've gone with Lullaby because of that 2x01 scene where it's used really well in the show but I think Sinking has a lot of lyrical similarities to George's experience. Robert sings "So I trick myself / Like everybody else." George, I think most especially in season 2, really tries to trick himself into thinking he can have a normal life. He tricks himself into thinking he can just put the wolf to sleep with no consequences and he tricks himself to the point of leaving Mitchell and Annie to move in with Sam, hastily proposing to her, and coming up with an absolutely ridiculous toboggan excuse to explain his monthly absences.
The song's line "The secrets I hide / Twist me inside / They make me weaker" also reflect George's experience. George learns that trying to hide what he is only makes things worse for him. At the parent-teacher conference, George finally "sinks" to rock bottom, failing at maintaining his ideal normal life by keeping the wolf separate. But by returning to Nina (someone who knows him for who he actually is, who understands what he goes through, and who he can be totally honest with), he is able to float back to the surface.
The Chain by Fleetwood Mac and I'm So Afraid by Fleetwood Mac - Annie
I feel like both these songs really capture Annie's struggles. I'm So Afraid reflects a lot of her loneliness due to having only a couple people who can see her, her fear of Owen, fear of the spirit world trying to drag her back, fear of losing her friends in season 2. Also the line "So afraid / Slip and I fall and I die" is too perfect for a character who died from being pushed down the stairs.
The Chain reflects Annie's relationship with Owen really well. The metaphor of the chain makes me think both about how in death Annie is figuratively chained to Owen because her original unfinished business was to confront him for killing her. But I also think of the unending chain of Owen's abuse. We know he was abusive to Annie but we also learn that Janey is sometimes scared of Owen too. Owen just continues his chain of abuse with the next woman he dates. The line "And if you don't love me now / You will never love me again" sounds like an ultimatum an abusive partner would make, like it's Owen forcing Annie to tell him she loves him otherwise he'll threaten to break up with her (or worse). The line "You will never love me again" sounds like a command where the abuser is forcing the other person to feel a certain way and that seems like something Owen would do to Annie.
Bedroom Hymns by Florence + the Machine - Lucy
The show uses Florence songs a lot (shoutout to the use of Howl in that one promo which I find super nostalgic) but this one (which wasn't even released yet at the time of season 2) really makes me think of Lucy and Mitchell's relationship told from Lucy's perspective. The song uses a lot of religious imagery intertwined with strong erotic desire and I can't help but think of Lucy's conflict between her feelings for Mitchell and her assigned mission to kill him which is rooted in anti-vampire Catholicism. Florence sings "Such selfish prayers and I can't get enough" and Lucy definitely can't get enough of Mitchell while also trying to reconcile her selfish feelings with her duty to Kemp's mission.
Baby Criminal by Viagra Boys - Tom
While Tom is not nearly as sociopathic as the protagonist of this song (he's quite the opposite in fact), there is something about the idea of how we all start out as innocent babies but can go on to lose that presumed innocence later in life. The chorus of "Used to be a baby, now he's just a criminal" reminds me of how Tom was once a human baby with a normal life, only to then become a houseless vampire-killing werewolf living in the woods. He and McNair steal to survive (becoming petty criminals) and while he is a very sweet and loving person, that is often in conflict with his highly skilled and trained vampire-killing. The chaotic instrumentation of the song does a good job of depicting a kind of inner conflict that makes me think of Tom's conflicting sweetness and vampire-killing tendencies. Also there's even the line "They said that he was tryna build a nuclear device" and we know about Tom and his bomb-making.

Episode 1 Part 3
Yeah Cave’s been stuck in way worse then this. You’re hit with a wave of dusty air as you enter.
Tumblr media
Yep that makes sense I guess. He tries not to think about falling through any floors as hard as he can but he’s not too successful. I’m just gonna be anxious about that the entire time aren’t I? Think about some other shit dammit! Just try to find something nice to say! Hey wait I actually recognize this style-”the architecture is breathtaking. Chateauesque style is reminiscent of the Biltmore estate“
Tumblr media
Y’know what? That was a positive response, and I’ll fucking take it. He thinks none too spitefully. Hell yeah tell me more about the architecture, participate in the conversation, bitch. He thinks to himself. Successfully got a two sentence reply along with it Cave 2 Tabitha 0
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Nevermind that she’s showing me around now. Obediently he follows her lead and tries to copy her path through the halls well enough to commit to memory. He does NOT want to fall through the floor in here. He’s not sure how many hours Tabitha is going to work this week but he’s pretty sure if he gets stuck in a hole he’ll be there a while. He’s in extra danger with all the weight he’s put on in the past 3 years.
Tumblr media
“It’s nice” He says, neutrally as possible, he’s worked in significantly worse kitchens in his life, actually been payed too on occasion. Its actually pretty nice in here compared to the entrance. He slots do a little cleaning himself while Tabitha isn’t looking away for later since Janey doesn’t seem very thorough. He could probably knock out that sink full of dishes in an hour. He’ll think about the mac n cheese and ice cream thing later cause, she’s definitely not surviving off just that right? and barely registers her reply. Nonchalantly as possible he slides the question by
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not very encouraging for the “does she subsist on nothing but macaroni, pb&j, and ice cream“ question...He thinks while idly sticking a pin in the “commit hostile takeover of her kitchen” idea for later. He doesn’t get the vibe that she cooks at all so it’ll probably be near effortless. Start with something like pancakes and see if I can dig any food preferences out of her. Go from there and try to get her to eat some kind of veg...”Sweet, thanks. Alright, whats next on the tour?” ...wait “Is that your cat? Whats its name?”
Tumblr media
Yeah okay I know better then to test that. To the bathroom it is.
Tumblr media
Yeah I’ve been in significantly worse bathrooms then this. Just get it over with.
Tumblr media
Nothing worse then what I’ve already done to them myself though...He just sort of absently nods through the “you better be grateful” and “no room in the closets from there”  None too casually “This is a nice room thank you” because he wasn’t raised to be an awful guest. He politely sits through her historic landmark and genuine antique spiel before throwing one last offer out for the road. “Do you need any help around the house? There’s a lot of boxes and stuff lying around here. I could help move things around and fix the place up” Or about as much as moving things around would fix it up. Make it a bit less cluttered at least. He expected the rejection at this point and isn’t too soured by it. “I guess I’ll start to get settled.” He just lets Tabitha leave instead of bothering her anymore with his presence.
