The thing about skadi alter that makes her hilarious is that even though skadi literally has the seaborn god inside of her, it's not as simple as just physically taking over her body, because skadi's own willpower is like a cap that prevents the seaborn gods from spilling out. thats why instead the seaborn evolved to actively communicate with skadi and try to open human channels of communication, because it's not just taking her, but convincing her to give in to the seaborn cause

thats why skadi possession isn't some kind of angsty eventuality where she slowly loses herself in her own mind, but rather that skadi's possession and transformation into skadi alter is more like this

skadi falls short as a character to me solely because i feel like they just didnt commit when they made her an antagonist. like she was doing some pretty awful stuff in lb2 with the whole farming humans thing BUT the entire time they try to paint her as sympathetic for it, which like. on one hand the actual lore surrounding her being a sole god survivor and pushed into the role of a ruler could make that work but i feel like they should have just had a moment where skadi is absolutely hardcore about it. the one moment at the end of lb2 where she says "tell me how many humans are in panhuman history, i want to know how many i will kill for my 100,000 humans" is about as close to that as they got for hardcore skadi but i feel like she should have had at least 1 more Big Antagonist Moment. like maybe if theyd gone the olympus route at least a little bit and had skadi try and save humans because she recognizes humans as important but doesnt actually understand why and holds them below herself as beings to control then that could have pushed her just over the line of approval and more significantly differentiate her LB from both sin and olympus. this is not a "skadi is bad lets everyone complain" post this is a "i am rotating and stretching and compressing scathach skadi properly in my mind and am pondering what is ultimately just an undercooked character" post

I think Scathach-Skadi could have been done better if they emphasize the shadow/destruction/scathing aspect more.

Just imagine it, the mother goddess that can only destroy. Surtr is not held back by the power of creation or runes, but by the primordial darkness that swallows up the light. The Lostbelt is that way because she literally can’t touch anything without corroding them, so she has to be as hands off as possible to avoid killing what’s left, but that means there is no god that can help rebuild the world.

She would have been a much more interesting character to contrast the duality of destroyer and creator. Of warriors and caretakers. Of death and life. A twisted death without rebirth that has extended from the failure of Ragnarok to the present day.

Also, rather than Gate of Skye which was more Scathach than Skadi, her NP should be related to mountains and skiing. Maybe something like a harbinger of avalanche that rides out as a warrior to overwhelm and kill her enemy. Still a Support NP though. Van Gogh got me hooked on that Support DPS.
