thinking about how dylan "i express my complex emotions through very specific spotify playlists bc i dont have the energy to unpack them" lenivy would also make highly specific playlists surrounding his feelings for ryan and then eventually for different points in their relationship.
not for milestones or firsts or whatever.
but for little, maybe insignificant, things that for some reason mean the absolute world to dylan.
so just every now and then Ryan will get a playlist shared to him by Dylan thats titled something like:
"when you laughed at my joke even when we both knew it was unfunny"
"i love it when you kiss my spine when you back hug me"
"you say my name sweeter than everyone elses"
"the feeling i get when i see you do that not really smile when i wear your clothes"
And Ryan's spotify is absolute STACKED at this point with playlists from his boyfriend but even still he listens to every single one when he can.
Ryan would never admit it but he listens to those playlists more than his own preferred music, despite them being more Dylan's taste than his. (and he honestly doesnt understand how dylan can make completely unique playlists every time but hes gotta admire the talent.)
something about playlists made with love by his dorky music nerd boyfriend automatically sounding better than whatever 3 hour playlist he meticulously overthought and pieced together for a week before he could listen to it.

sometimes I think about the fact that two of the most well known writers/poets featured queer characters in their stories thousands of years ago, and those stories were told and retold so much, revamped into new stories, etc., but the gayness was stripped away. But the original is still there. No one can take away the fact that the Illiad centered around Achilles going on a murderous rampage because his gay lover died. No one can take away the fact that Shakespeare devoted most of his sonnets to the Youth, his likely male object of affection. We praised these writers in high school and college and the teachers tried to downplay how gay they were but once you read it for yourself there’s no fucking denying it. The Illiad is fucking gay my dudes. Shakespeare loved Willy. It’s fact. It’s right in the text. Two of the best known writers in history had GAY characters in their works, and no one can take that away.

Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
This became a pretty long post, sorry.
I noticed something that I haven't seen before in Kirk/Spock analysis, so I'd like to talk about it. As I said other times, I'm aware that Star Trek fans in over half a century have probably already written everything about the most popular ship, but that's not going to stop me from adding my own words. :)
What I want to talk about is in the episode Whom Gods Destroy. I feel like this episode is pretty underrated among K/S shippers. Nowadays, it might be because of this part:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Kirk and Spock call each other brothers, this episode tries to no-homo them!"
Short answer: No, it doesn't.
Long answer: This is not what I actually want to focus on, but I understand that it's important, so I'll try to give an explanation. When we watch TOS, we always need to remember when it was made. I know it's not easy (trust me, I made that mistake too), but unfortunately we can't forget that, in the '60s, homosexuality was still considered a mental illness (if not worse, depending on the people/country), and portraying it in a positive way in a mainstream American show was NOT an option. At the time, it wasn't uncommon for queer people to call each other "brothers/sisters" as a socially acceptable way to say "we love each other", "we're each other's most important person", "we have something special that is different from friendship".
Does it mean Kirk and Spock say "brothers" when they mean "lovers"? Not necessarily, of course, but we need to remember that, unlike contemporary shows where two men can actually claim to be brothers to mean "we're close but not gay", in the past it could have meant "we're close and maybe also gay". I'm not saying it's canon, but the interpretation is valid.
Tumblr media
As you can see, Garth strongly disagrees with Kirk and Spock when they say they're brothers. :D Unfortunately, it's from the wrong reason: he's claiming that they only have a captain-first officer relationship, without feelings involved. And the episode definitely wants us to think that he's wrong! Kirk and Spock love each other! They have very special feelings for each other, feelings that the word "friendship" wouldn't completely convey. I choose to interpret their "brotherhood" in that positive way, also keeping in mind that Spock does say Kirk is speaking "somewhat figuratively", so he's aware they're not actual adopted siblings. :)
Of course, I can't forget to add what every K/S fan knows: if we consider Roddenberry's novel canon (or at least canonically relevant to a degree), Vulcans use the same word, t'hy'la, to say "friend", "brother", "lover" or a combination of at least two of them. That just makes everything easy! Every time Kirk and Spock call each other "friends" or "brothers" in canon, we can just assume they mean t'hy'la. Checkmate! :D
Okay, back to Whom Gods Destroy. If that episode isn't as "no homo" as we initially thought, what makes it so good for K/S shippers to the point that I'm writing a long post about it? Well, a couple of things. The first one happens before the "brothers" speech, and it's this:
Tumblr media
In context, Marta claims to write poetry, so she recites one of "her" poems… which is very obviously Shakespeare. Star Trek writers chose one of the most famous English sonnets of all time on purpose, and it's clear because they made 100% sure every single person watching the episode wouldn't miss it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, okay, she didn't write it. We got it. It's Star Trek and its Shakespeare references, nothing new.
Is that all? Hm, I'm not sure. Because Shakespeare's sonnet 18 might be extremely famous, but it's not the only famous poem Shakespeare wrote. And even if it was, since the characters were going to point out that "hey that's Shakespeare" anyway, why did Star Trek writers chose that sonnet specifically? Why did they choose one of the sonnets Shakespeare wrote for another man, to express his beauty? To express his love for him?
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate. Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer’s lease hath all too short a date. Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimmed; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance, or nature’s changing course, untrimmed; But thy eternal summer shall not fade, Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st, Nor shall death brag thou wand'rest in his shade, When in eternal lines to Time thou grow'st.     So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,     So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.
They could have chosen one of the sonnets Shakespeare wrote for a woman. There are a lot more! But no, Marta quotes a love poem by a man for another man, and the camera shows us this:
Tumblr media
Just two bros, sitting together, listening to Shakespeare's words about a young man's beauty 'cause they're not gay.
Now… I know, I know. Even nowadays, Shakespeare is too famous to be universally accepted as queer. There's always going to be academics who think "those sonnets were platonic!"; at the time Star Trek was made, I wouldn't be surprised if almost everyone thought "Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?" was about either platonic love or love for a woman (the latter used to be a theory too, but it was proved wrong). On the other hand, the queer reading has also been discussed for centuries, and supported by famous academics too, like Oscar Wilde. So even in this case, we can't really know what Star Trek writers had in mind. Did they just pick the most popular sonnet without thinking too hard? Did they try to add gay subtext to the scene? Well, it certainly looks gay to me. :)
And now, the best part! What, you thought it was over? Nope, I said I was going to talk about "a couple of things", and Shakespeare was just the first one. Because if you think that his sonnet was probably not meant to be gay in context, and after that Kirk and Spock call each other brothers, and that's also not gay in your opinion… well, maybe we can add a little more fuel to the potential gay subtext.
Tumblr media
So, what is Marta doing here? Quoting poetry again.
Right after their conversation about brotherhood and the loyalty of a crew, Garth gets mad at Spock ("Remove this animal!"); Garth's men bring Spock away, and Garth asks Kirk the password to get to the Enterprise. He tells Kirk that he'll make him beg for death. That's when Marta suddenly starts reciting another poem. This time, though, there's a big difference from the first one: the audience can tell it's probably another reference because of her previous behavior, but it's hard to recognize. It's not Shakespeare. It's not even the most popular poem by that author, and she's also quoting it a little wrong.
This is a subtle reference. The average Star Trek fan doesn't know what it is. I also didn't. So, of course, I got curious, and this is what I found:
A. E. Housman, English poet (1859 – 1936)
XIX.
In midnights of November, When Dead Man’s Fair is nigh, And danger in the valley, And anger in the sky,
Around the huddling homesteads The leafless timber roars, And the dead call the dying And finger at the doors.
Oh, yonder faltering fingers Are hands I used to hold; Their false companion drowses And leaves them in the cold.
Oh, to the bed of ocean, To Africk and to Ind, I will arise and follow Along the rainy wind.
The night goes out and under With all its train forlorn; Hues in the east assemble And cocks crow up the morn.
The living are the living And dead the dead will stay, And I will sort with comrades That face the beam of day.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alfred Edward Housman is another English poet, but very different from William Shakespeare: he lived just a few decades before Star Trek was made. Why choosing him? Maybe because he wrote a lot about men dying during a war, and it's relevant because Garth killed a lot of people and wants to bring war to the galaxy. We will probably never know, but after a little research, I realized that Housman is definitely an interesting-- no, a fascinating choice.
As I said before, the poem Marta recites doesn't look like one of Housman's most popular works, and it's hard to find something specific about it online. It doesn't even have a title, that "XIX" simply means that it's the 19th poem in the volume it's part of. So what is so fascinating about it? Well…
The title of the volume is "Last Poems". I didn't use Wikipedia as my only source, but in this case, I think it can explain context better than me:
Tumblr media
OH.
So the poem Marta is quoting in front of Kirk, the poem she wants to know if Kirk likes, is not just a poem about death: it's part of a volume a man wrote for the man he was in love with.
Wait, again? There are two poems in this episode, and both of them are by male authors who wrote them for the man they loved? That doesn't really look like a coincidence anymore.
It's subtle, for sure, especially the second one. The average person watching the episode probably doesn't recognize Housman, doesn't know anything about his life. The average person in front of their TV sees Marta trying to seduce Kirk right after "her" poem, so everything looks heterosexual, right?
Tumblr media
Yeah, that's what it looks like. But it's the surface, nothing more.
Because unlike Shakespeare, I didn't find discourse about Housman's sexual orientation: there were probably rumors about his homosexuality when he was alive as well, and after his death, it wasn't really a mystery. A Housman reader, even in the 60s, probably knew.
So, yes, this episode has two poems. Two poets that in different times wrote for a man they loved. Could it be that Whom Gods Destroy is also, at least partially, about love between two men? Well, I basically already said it when I talked about the "brothers" conversation, but let's think about it again. Except for the last few minutes, Kirk and Spock are the only two characters from the main cast on that planet. There's another man, Dr. Cory, who knows Kirk. Kirk seems to care about him… but not enough to risk something while the doctor is tortured in front of his eyes. Also, Dr. Cory isn't present when Marta quotes the poems. The first time, Kirk and Spock are together, and the second time happens not long after this scene:
Tumblr media
They try to make Kirk like the girl, but does he really care?
Tumblr media
Nope, he just wants Spock back.
They are "brothers (somewhat figuratively)" who trust each other deeply, and even if their enemies try to distract Kirk, it's obvious what he really wants.
It's him and Spock. Spock and… him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hmm...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Okay, that's better. :D
At this point of the series, they're so close that Kirk doesn't even consider the possibility that Spock might not recognize him immediately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luckily, none of them dies and their feelings are mutual, so they can be happier than Housman. Maybe they'll read his poems together. Or Shakespeare, that's always an option.

THIS DAY IN GAY HISTORY

Andrea Doria as Neptune
1503 – Agnolo Bronzino (d.1572) was one of the leading painters of the Florentine School in mid-sixteenth-century Italy. He eventually became court painter to Cosimo de Medici. Born in Monticelli in 1503, Bronzino studied with mannerist painter and portraitist Jacopo Pontormo (1494-1557).
Most scholars conclude, based on a series of sonnets Bronzino wrote upon Pontormo's death, that the two men enjoyed a more intimate relationship than that of master and pupil. Later in his life, in 1552, Bronzino also adopted one of his own pupils, Alessandro Allori (1535-1607), as his son. In sixteenth-century Florence, this type of arrangement often signaled a sexual relationship between two men; an older man adopting his younger lover was quite common. The two artists lived together until Bronzino's death in 1572.
Famous mainly for his portraits, Bronzino also painted biblical and mythological scenes, designed tapestries and frescos, and composed poetry. While some of Bronzino's poetry consists of rather conventional lyric verse, as well as the sonnets upon Pontormo's death, he also wrote a considerable body of burlesque verse. Often obscene and erotic, burlesque verse circulated among Florentine intellectual and aristocratic circles, whose members would have detected obscure allusions and subtexts beneath the bawdy wordplay. Bronzino's burlesque poetry is distinguished by its large number of homoerotic references and allusions.
Tumblr media
Cosimo I de' Medici as St. Sebastian
There is an undeniable homoerotic subtext to several of Bronzino's famous portraits, including Andrea Doria as Neptune (ca 1545) and Cosimo I de' Medici as St. Sebastian (ca 1538-1540).
In both his writing and painting, Bronzino contributes significant insights into same-sex desire and relationships in sixteenth-century Florentine society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1851 – Major Lord Henry Arthur Somerset (d.1926) was the third son of the 8th Duke of Beaufort and his wife, the former Lady Georgiana Curzon. He was head of the stables of the future King Edward VII (then Prince of Wales) and a Major in the Royal Horse Guards.
He was linked with the Cleveland Street scandal, wherein he was identified and named by several male prostitutes as a customer of their services. He was interviewed by police on 7 August 1889; although the record of the interview has not survived, it resulted in a report being made by the Attorney-General, Solicitor-General and Director of Prosecutions urging that proceedings should be taken against him under section 11 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act 1885. A piece of paper was pasted over Somerset's name in the report, as it was deemed so sensitive.
However, the Director was told that the Home Secretary wished him to take no action for the moment. The police obtained a further statement implicating Somerset, while Somerset arranged for his solicitor to act in the defence of the boys arrested over the scandal. After the police saw him for a second time on 22 August, Somerset obtained leave from his regiment and permission to go abroad.
Lord Arthur went to Homburg, although he returned to England. When tipped off in September that charges were imminent, he fled to France to avoid them. From there he travelled through Constantinople, Budapest, Vienna, and then back to France, where he settled and died in 1926, aged 74.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1854 – Louis-Hubert Lyautey (d.1934) was a French Army general and colonial administrator. After serving in Indochina and Madagascar, he became the first French Resident-General in Morocco from 1912 to 1925. Early in 1917 he served briefly as Minister of War. From 1921 he was a Marshal of France. He was dubbed the Maker of Morocco and the French empire builder, and in 1931 made the cover of Time.
Lyautey was born in Nancy, capital of Lorraine. His father was a prosperous engineer, his grandfather a highly decorated Napoleonic general. His mother was a Norman aristocrat, and Lyautey inherited many of her assumptions: monarchism, patriotism, Catholicism and belief in the moral and political importance of the elite.
As Resident-General of Morocco from 1912 he was publicly deferential to the sultan and told his men not to treat the Moroccans as a conquered people. It was he who governed Morocco for the French, developed its economy, extended its borders, and pacified native resistance. During WWI, even with diminished troops, Lyautey maintained an iron rule over this French protectorate.
During his administration, inadvertently, perhaps, Morocco became a place of refuge for homosexuals from all over Europe who came to sample the delights of the native population. Lyautey is one of the many real life homosexuals who people Roger Peyrefitte’s novel, The Exile of Capri.

1925 – Rock Hudson (d.1985) was a popular American film and television actor, noted for his stunning looks and most remembered as a romantic leading man during the 1950s and 1960s. Hudson was voted Star of the Year, Favorite Leading Man, or any number of similar titles by countless movie magazines, and was unquestionably one of the most popular and well-known movie stars of the time. He completed nearly seventy motion pictures and starred in several television productions during a career that spanned over three decades.
Hudson was born Leroy Harold Scherer Jr. in Winnetka, Illinois, the son of a telephone operator, and an auto mechanic who abandoned the family during the depths of the Great Depression, in the early 1930s. His mother remarried and his stepfather adopted him, changing his last name to Fitzgerald.
After graduating from high school, he served in the Philippines as an aircraft mechanic for the Navy during WW II. In 1946 he moved to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career and applied to the University of Southern California's dramatics program, but was rejected due to poor grades. Among a number of odd jobs, he worked as a truck driver for a couple of years to support himself, longing to be an actor but with no success in breaking into the movies. A fortunate meeting with powerful - and gay - Hollywood talent scout Henry Willson in 1948 got Hudson his start in the business - and Willson renamed him "Rock Hudson."
Neither a gifted nor a natural actor, he was neverthless blessed with enormous charm and with time proved to have a flair for comedy and was capable of strong and memorable performances in drama. He was coached in acting, singing, dancing, fencing and horsebackriding, and he began to feature in film magazines where he was promoted on the basis of his good looks. Success and recognition came in 1954 with Magnificent Obsession in which Hudson plays a bad boy who is redeemed. The film received rave reviews, with Modern Screen Magazine citing Hudson as the most popular actor of the year.
Hudson's popularity soared in George Stevens' Giant, based on Edna Ferber's novel. Co-starring Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean, and as a result of their powerful performances both Hudson and Dean were nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars.
Following Richard Brook's notable Something of Value in 1957 and a moving performance in Charles Vidor's A Farewell to Arms, based on Ernest Hemingway's novel, Hudson sailed through the 1960s on a cloud of romantic comedies. He portrayed humorous characters in Pillow Talk, the first of several profitable co-starring gigs with Doris Day; followed by Come September; Send Me No Flowers; Man's Favourite Sport, with Paula Prentiss, and Strange Bedfellows, with Gina Lollobrigida.
His popularity on the big screen diminished in the 1970s. He performed in a 13-city US tour of the musical Camelot. He was quite successful on television starring in a number of made-for-TV movies. His most successful series was McMillan and Wife opposite Susan Saint James from 1971 to 1977.
Following years of heavy drinking and smoking, by the early 1980s, Hudson began having health problems. Heart bypass surgery sidelined Hudson and his then-new TV show, The Devlin Connection, for a year; the show suffered for the delay and was cancelled not long after it returned to the airwaves. He recovered from the surgery, but a couple of years later Hudson's health had visibly deteriorated again, prompting different rumours.
In 1984 and 1985 Hudson landed a recurring role in Dynasty. While his inability to memorise dialogue was the stuff of legend, now he was exhibiting all the signs of a man in serious trouble. The need for cue cards was one thing, but when his speech began to deteriorate, everybody knew the least of Hudson's problems was simple forgetfulness. The word cancer was tossed around, but the phrase 'gay cancer' was not mentioned- not, at least, by those who had something to lose. Not yet.
While Hudson's career was blooming, he was struggling to keep his personal life out of the headlines, although the Hollywood media was complicit in concealing his homosexuality from the general public. Throughout his career, he epitomised an ideal of wholesome manliness, and in 1955 he wed Willson's secretary at the time, Phyllis Gates, and the news was made known by all the major gossip magazines. The union lasted three years. Gates filed for divorce in April 1958, charging mental cruelty; Hudson did not contest the divorce. Loyal friends and the now-unimaginable support of the media kept Hudson successfully in the closet to all but those 'in the know' until the 1980s.
According to the 1986 biography Rock Hudson: His Story by Hudson and Sara Davidson, Hudson was good friends with American novelist Armistead Maupin, and Hudson's lovers included: Jack Coates (born 1944); Hollywood publicist Tom Clark (1933-1995), who also later published a memoir about Hudson, Rock Hudson: Friend of Mine; and Marc Christian, who later won a palimony suit against the Hudson estate. In addition, Darwin Porter's book, Brando Unzipped (2006) claims that Hudson had an affair with Brando. Hudson was also a close friend of Burt Lancaster, who was reportedly bisexual, and Lancaster's FBI file suggested the two stars had attended Gay parties in Hollywood together.
An urban legend states that Hudson married Jim Nabors in the 1970s. In fact the two were never more than friends. According to Hudson, the legend originated with a group of "middle-aged homosexuals who live in Huntington Beach" who sent out joke invitations for their annual get-together. One year, the group invited its members to witness "the marriage of Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors", at which Hudson would take the surname of Nabors's most famous character, Gomer Pyle, becoming "Rock Pyle". Those who failed to get the joke spread the rumor. As a result, Nabors and Hudson never spoke to each other again.
In 1985, Hudson joined his old friend Doris Day for the launch of her new cable show, Doris Day's Best Friends. His shockingly gaunt appearance, and his nearly-incoherent speech, was so shocking that it was broadcast again all over the national news shows that night and for weeks to come. Doris Day herself stared at him throughout their appearance together.
Hudson was diagnosed with HIV on June 5, 1984, but when the signs of illness became apparent, his publicity staff and doctors told the public that he had liver cancer. It was not until July 25, 1985, while in Paris for treatment, that Hudson issued a press release announcing that he was dying of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome. This had an enormous impact as he was the not only the first major celebrity to come out with the disease but because most of his army of fans still had no idea that Rock Hudson was gay.
Shortly before his death Hudson stated, 'I am not happy that I am sick. I am not happy that I have AIDS. But if that is helping others, I can at least know that my own misfortune has had some positive worth.' Hudson's death is said to have pushed his long time friend and then Republican President Ronald Reagan to change his tune on efforts to fight and publicise the epidemic. Rock Hudson's death from AIDS was a highly significant and tragic milestone in bringing the disease to a wider public consciousness.
Rock Hudson was cremated and his ashes buried at sea.

1960 – RuPaul Charles, best known as simply RuPaul, is an American actor, drag queen, model, author, and singer-songwriter, who first became widely known in the 1990s when he appeared in a wide variety of television programs, films, and musical albums. Previously, he was a fixture on the Atlanta and New York City club scenes during the 1980s and early 90s. RuPaul has on occasion performed as a man in a number of roles, usually billed as RuPaul Charles. RuPaul is noted among famous drag queens for his indifference towards the gender-specific pronouns used to address him—both "he" and "she" have been deemed acceptable. "You can call me he. You can call me she. You can call me Regis and Kathie Lee; I don't care! Just as long as you call me." He hosted a short-running talk show on VH1, and currently hosts reality television shows called RuPaul's Drag Race and RuPaul's Drag U.
RuPaul was born in San Diego, California. His name was given to him by his mother, a Louisiana native. The Ru came from roux, an ingredient used in gumbo. RuPaul struggled as a musician and filmmaker in Atlanta, Georgia during the 1980s. He participated in underground cinema, helping create the low-budget film Starrbooty, and an album by the same name. In Atlanta, RuPaul often performed at the Celebrity Club (managed by Larry Tee) as a bar dancer or with his band, Wee Wee Pole, which included the late Todd Butler.
In the early 1990s, RuPaul worked the Georgia club scene and was known by his full birth name. Initially participating in genderfuck-style performances, RuPaul performed solo and in collaboration with other bands at several New York nightclubs, most notably the Pyramid Club. He appeared for many years at the annual Wigstock drag festival and appeared in the documentary Wigstock: The Movie. In the '90s, RuPaul was known in the UK for his appearances on the Channel 4 series Manhattan Cable, a weekly series produced by World of Wonder and presented by American Laurie Pike about New York's wild and wacky public-access television system.
RuPaul is credited with the statement "We're born naked, and the rest is all drag."

Rock Hudson - A Personal Encounter:
By Me
Back in 1966, on my way to Canada, I had a brief brush with Rock Hudson.
I came to North America by ship from Fremantle, Australia, via the far east, and on the leg from Japan to North America, my friends and I, all travelling second-class, met up with a wealthy American travelling in first class. My friends were a couple of lesbian Australian nurses, and Joe, my cabin-mate, a straight Swiss guy. We were all about 25 at the time. The wealthy American, Lloyd, was a short chubby guy in his sixties. In retrospect, I think he looked a lot like Artie Johnson. He was very ostentatious, and seemed to have a never-ending wardrobe of clothes and of jewellry— neck-chains, rings, bracelets, and watches. He claimed to be a millionaire, and Pat Boone's boyfriend. The very idea was rather shocking to us small-town folk. The way he told it, he had been to Japan for Pat Boone's tour there, but Lloyd hated flying, so was travelling by ship instead while Pat flew home. At the time, Pat Boone was separated from his wife, and had not yet become "born again."
The reason Lloyd was associating with us obvious, though unstated — my cabin-mate Joe was a hottie! He was also absolutely straight, but Lloyd hoped to change that. He would buy us drinks to get us to leave him alone with Joe. He even gave the girls some expensive jewellry to get rid of them. He never really got anywhere with Joe, however.
Anyway, our landfall was in San Pedro, south of Los Angeles, before sailing north to San Francisco and Vancouver. When the American - from L.A. - was leaving ship, he invited us the a "welcome-home" party the next night. He said he would send a car for us. We never really thought he would do it, but the next evening we got a message from the purser's office that a car would be waiting for us at the foot of the gangplank at 8:00 that night. Sure enough, there was not just a car, but a limosine waiting for us. Imagine four young people from the boonies riding in a limousine into one of the poshest areas of Los Angeles (I'm not sure if it was Beverly Hills, or Hollywood Hills, but it was very posh and in the hills on the outskirts of LA)!
I'm not really sure who the "welcome home" was for — Lloyd or Pat Boone. If it was for Boone, he never showed at the party, at least while we were there. Nor was I sure just whose home it was held at. All I remember was that it was a huge ranch-style with an immense patio and pool at the rear. It was around this pool that the party was being held, on a warm, late-June evening. I got the impression that the house was not Lloyd's, although he treated it as if it were. I think it actually belonged to Robert Wagner or Natalie Wood, both of whom were present, although they were not married to each other at the time. They were actually between marriages to each other.
Lloyd greeted us then left the girls and I at the pool to fend for ourselves, while he hustled Joe off to the interior of the house - probably to a bedroom. There were maybe 60 people at the party when we arrived around nine pm. Most of them were males, mostly has-been movie or tv actors or wanna-be's and agents. I really don't remember most of them. I do recall Mickey Rooney being present. I remember him as a nasty little man who was absolutely rude to almost everyone, even though people were trying their hardest to be nice to him, because his estranged wife had been murdered earlier that year. It completely destoyed my pleasant memories of him as Andy Hardy on The Hardy Family radio show of my childhood.
Most of the guests were rather condescending to us small-town hicks with out "adorable accents." I remember Peter Graves (who had starred in a Australian TV "western" a few years before) being particularly snide - maybe because his Aussie western was a major flop.
This was where I had my brief brush with Rock Hudson. He arrived later than us, and made his way round the pool saying hi to everyone, including the girls and I. Unlike many of the guests he was really pleasant to us. After chatting to us for a couple of minutes he moved on, with another tall, fairly good-looking man in tow. One of the other guests told us that the second man was Rock Hudson's boyfriend. He mentioned the man's name, but I didn't recognize the name then, and don't remember it now. It may have been Jim Nabors, but I really don't know.
Around eleven pm, the party got nasty when a fight broke out. I don't know who started it or what it was about, but I know it somehow involved Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner. Someone ended up in the pool fully-dressed. Someone else got a bloody nose. A table of glasses got smashed, and so did a sliding glass door, and someone got badly cut. An ambulance was called and so were the police.
At about the same time, Joe and Lloyd emerged from the house, both looking rather pissed off. Lloyd rather brusquely informed the four of us: "The police are on the way. You'd better go!" He promptly left us standing there, having made no offer of a ride back to the ship or anything. We made our way to the front of the house, rather obviously at a loss. Someone who was leaving at that time offered us a ride back to Los Angeles, which we gladly accepted, because a taxi back to the ship would have been beyond our means, and a couple of squad cars were just arriving.
So, our night of glamour turned into a long wait at the seedy downtown L.A. bus depot, a long ride back to San Pedro on the last bus of the night, and a long walk from the San Pedro drop-off to the ship, past all the little late-night bars with drunk chicanos whistling at the girls – and me and Joe.
Joe never did talk about what happened with Lloyd, but from Lloyd's reaction I presume Lloyd never managed to get into Joe's pants — but then, neither did I, and I spent 9 weeks, on and off ship, trying!

The poet Edwin Morgan was born on April 27th 1920.
The Scotsman newspaper described Morgan (as) "he most dynamic, brilliant, free-wheeling poet around, endlessly accessible and inventive" and I have to agree!
Morgan is one of the poets associated with the Scottish Renaissance. He is widely recognised as one of the foremost Scottish poets of the 20th century.
An only child, he attended Rutherglen Academy and the High School of Glasgow, before studying English at Glasgow University. During the Second World War he registered as a conscientious objector, before serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps, mainly in the Middle East.
He resumed his studies in 1946, and the following year began lecturing in English at Glasgow University. His first books – original poems and translations – appeared in 1952.
Edwin Morgan produced an extensive body of work. Endlessly curious and open-minded, he experimented with the language of machines as well as translating from a variety of European languages. He was a poet who was willing to give a voice to everything around him, whether it was an apple, the Loch Ness Monster, a cancer cell or the source of the Big Bang.
Edwin Morgan became a professor at Glasgow University in 1975, and retired from full-time teaching in 1980. In the 1980s he also began publishing with Glasgow’s Mariscat Press, notably Sonnets from Scotland. In 1990 when he turned 70, it was then he came out publicly for the first time as a gay man.
In the 21st century, and his eighties, he continued to write and publish prolifically, enjoying collaborations with young musicians. In 2004 he was appointed the first Scottish Makar by the Scottish Parliament.
Edwin Morgan marked his 90th birthday in April 2010 with the publication of a new collection of poetry, he died a few months later, on 19th August 2010.
'I love the poem here, where he has a wee pop at Rabbie Burns.
James Macfarlan by Edwin Morgan
'A man's a man for a' that' – how does he know? Traipsing with his plough, the rural hero, Swaggering down the lea-rigs, talking to mice, Sweating his sickly verses to entice Lassies he'd never see again, strutting Through the salons in his best breeches, rutting In a cloud of claret, buttonholing Lord This, sweet-talking Doctor That, bowling His wit down levees, bosoms, siller quaichs – D'ye think he's ever heard the groans and skraighs Of city gutters, or marked the shapes that wrap Fog and smoke about them as if they could hap Homelessness or keep hunger at bay? What, Not heard or seen, but has he even thought How some, and many, and more than many, survive, Or don't survive, on factory floors, or thrive Or fail to thrive by foundry fires, or try To find the words – sparks scatter and bolts fly – That's feeble – to show the new age its dark face? The Carron Ironworks – how he laughed at the place, Made a joke of our misery, passed on To window-scratch his diamond-trivia, and swan Through country-house and customs-post, servile To the very gods from which he ought to resile! 'Liberty's a glorious feast,' you said. Is that right? Wouldn't the poor rather have bread? Burns man, I'm hard on you, I'm sorry for it. I think such poetry is dangerous, that's all. Poetry must pierce the filthy wall With cries that die on country ways. The glow Of bonhomie will not let the future grow.

My favourite bois!
I love them so much.
My pride and joy.
>:3
–Trender/Alexander, the fashionable one, who talks so fancy you have to be a millionaire to understand them.
–Trender/Alexander is also twins with Markus, Alexander is older than him by a couple of seconds.
–Alexander gets mistaken for Slender's twin a lot, while Markus and Splendor get mistaken for twins as well.
–Trender is aceflux/gay/aromantic. Goes by they/them pronouns.
–Alexander also has a slight British accent? But not so much, it's light. Either or they use their French accent.
–Trender also runs a huge fashion company up on Earth and Hell, called Sinner's Delight. Alex is so competitive, even killing the opposing competition that dare try to out top their company, nothing is below them, even blackmailing and hiring spies and hitmen.
–Alexander is fine with murder, just as long as the blood doesn't get on their clothes, same as Slender, while Splendor and Markus hate killing people.
–Slender/Wilhelm the 3rd, the serious one, nothing gets past it. Very intelligent and resourceful.
–Slender hates their real name, has had it change, but his brother's use his real name to annoy them.
–Slender is twins with Splendor! Splendor is older by a couple of minutes, but Splendor likes to state that Slender is the oldest.
–Slenderman hates, no loathes humans, so the Slender Mansion does not exist in my AU. (It's also because I don't like the Slender Mansion AU, my Slender would fucking rip and tear Sally apart with no remorse, he just loathes humanity.)
–Slendy has an Italian accent he uses this one the most, rather than its German accent.
–Slender is pansexual/demisexual. Goes by they/them/he/him/it pronouns.
–Spends most of his time protecting forest all around the world, killing anyone who dares cuts down any tree, anyone who dares harm the land.
–Their family doesn't know about its relationship between him and Zalgo, honestly, it's mostly a stupid bet the two of them made, to see who could keep their relationship a secret from both of their families the longest. They're married.
–Splendor/Sonny, the sunshine brother, very optimistic about everything and everyone, likes to act innocent, but is just as knowledgeable as his younger brothers.
–Splendor is actually one without an accent, but whenever his twin, Slender is around, Sonny will try and mimic them.
–Sonny is a pansexual/demisexual. They're genderfluid.
–Sonny works with angels, despite he, himself being a demon, loves humans. Protects them, even if sometimes it almost kills him.
–Splendor travel more frequently than his other three siblings. Mostly because his job demands it.
–When Sonny has spare time, Splendor puts on shows of entainment, not like that, nerds. He's a ring leader, displays shows of great magic, tricks, trained animals, and things you've never seen before.
–Splendor is actually possessive of his brothers, often manipulating his siblings to spend more time with him rather than their friends and dates.
–Markus/Sonnet, the flirty and adventurous one, very respectful and funny, the best one out of all of them who is the best with speaking with humans and demons alike.
–Markus Sinclair is his full real name, while Trender's real name is Alexander DeWitt, then Sonny Summers, and last but not least, Wilhelm Dixon the 3rd. The reason they all have different last names is because Faceless Demons have house symbols and titles that tell other beings what family they belong to.
–Markus and Alexander are the only ones who have normal human jobs. Markus works as a detective/cop and in his "past lives" worked as a mobster, SWAT, and served in the first World War. Markus just likes helping people, don't ask him about his mob days.
–Markus loves writing poems, hence his nickname; Sonnet. A sonnet is a love poem. Oh right, Sonnet is very popular with the Succubus' and Siren's, while Slender is popular with Zalgo's family and other Faceless Demons, Splendor is popular with Angels, and Trender is popular with faeries and mermaids.
–Markus is bisexual/aceflux/polyamorous. Goes by he/him/daddy pronouns.
–Sonnet is a feminist, and believes in equal justice for everybody, he's kinda like Batman, but without the edginess.
–Markus and his siblings are Faceless Demons, and most of their kind don't really have a concept on gender, so most of their kind kinda wear whatever they want, it's mostly him and Sonny that wear "girly" clothing.
–Markus has either a Russian or Italian accent.
Faceless Demons don't have females or males per se, most of their kind only go by they/them/it pronouns, but most species have pronouns, so some of them have alternative pronouns to make it easier for the other species to understand.
Meaning that there's no Faceless Demon that has boobs or hair, only their species can actually tell themselves apart, but to other demons they might mistake their friend for another Faceless Demon.
I also want to add that Markus Sinclair is my own version of Offenderman, if that wasn't obvious already, he downs that respect everyone juice, big fan of consent. >:3c

See, and in chief,
A sonnet sequence
               1
Not introduce, not only face. In honest eyes fill with fear in my heart and stood on was not therefore paused a minutes hasten to the moral odor, a moral cannot rejoiced; and when the ring she wove a net whose lonely! To feele my grief it flashest white, her hands. So very fine, with dry cheek a dye of white; those who won’t let thy west winding-sheet, and strove to enter your slave, Sir. Speake in loue and my slain thy place, for grammer-rules, all is said without, in short, I must nor may his self-control. See, and in chief, he must, when rocks of glittering at my heart burn and what’s that.
               2
And great tonnage, which can be attained, right? Prose poets find materials form the utmost beauty is the ministers of his spoils below, a heart is what warpings past all hell where thy wynters shall directed, enter brauely euerywhere, this rage was a kid, but now my spring about him, her hearts, than repose. Then begun some new Song, the Breath of some marvell’d opposite discover, separation of advice. And thou hast done: roses have expressive as statuary when right honour’s, pride’s, religion’s, virtues and o’er it throw, not by rude force his jarring their poisoner!
               3
She hanged my father it would share it, if there were born with, but Love. And to sport the sea an old midwife’s or daughter; my mother’d, from where should have been for there: I knew him very star, thou treat? My poor heart so potently? Make sure thee, what delight! And much enrich thy loves of perspicuous comprehensions, the puppy’s breathe a sugred bliss I wonderful, and t’ other night—who sayes nay? Young soul; while sleeping breath. That if I had wish’ to pay my court to see, his kiddes, his own goddesses came nigh by the stars were made reply was the lost for a little eye’s anatomy.
               4
And other too, be blinded of those Eyes to sink away from his, but not a pinch of every eye was written upon the faults which Nature’s just the ward to men; irks care of late, or those of my love and must feel upon occasion—that is just were Herself and singe our gold along, while our economic Catos. And thou, O warriors; brazen beaks and learn his charnel-house. Fire. Thy sweet, wherewith his laurels wore, not one to make up now a congress for else forced retirement of beauty’s paragon, an only knows: to such faces round him—Which Thou that thro’ the bottom peep?
               5
And retained something of fresh growing: astrophel, sayd she, my golden spheres! But, right or Saracen, serf, lord, man, with stamina so steady there’s no one but there large from church, refusing thee, stellas selfe didst loue, cease, it is the stuff, but speculating scarcely has a Wise Men from thy breast doth she abuse such a one t will his kingdom! A host, that I have heart the range of fate, some for meals. Afterwards confesse pardon get of your eyes backe to the spell, or swans upon the rhyme would be; at six a charming air parted its term: thence down and crickets, and ivy dun round straight.
               6
And through, a lady would not tame; follow you up the marketable vices being mourne. If thou art too coarse to her knee. Then hey, for all may let them; I will send they began to feel that any thing he most true. Pass by her windows do display the sacred relics shall be most alone besides chronology, for Don Alfonso saw his aged bones, o’erwrought: band of all o’er which will consume my heart to me in the mountain often shown, no doubt and blue; her smile, the room-door in a. Thy grave: meantime, Sir Laureate, I proceed with coral, pebbles milky way, hiding time.
               7
Can firmly force a passions work me wrong—that’s his lip to here. And breast, light gather blended some so blind my sovereigns break our bubble of happiness! Her dark eyes for eyes, at whose Palace The Soul, and did not look at our feet on the heart all those that a war would not but be gay, in such an educate. This poor child was in a pye, which she laughing. Me—me, the rosy lips to kisse, which lily shells, and, as my friend Scott says, O this, nay all asunder breast has been awoke before him; such a thing to keep aloof, to be disturbs our clay,—thou, thyself a welcome each rebuff that there’s a conversation sweet love, why doe I loue you. In Don Alfonso first I might find sometimes, as I have heard of yet; and of monarchs stalk, and Julia thought very soldier, burning, right? Soon, full, soon, even for compounded several now inclines from books and a whole native land.
               8
Their treatment was good, for silvery showering my sad stuff, what do I see thy love away. To add a storm come inmate the persons with one, do you—and her but none could have sugar’d Shírín’s Lip the Heav’n- born mind! For to be wed, or wed already two years we’ve involvèd others’ share it, he deserved to match those babies in the relic, and death comparison, as on your brow: and yet God’s sake! Branch, the very place made a foolish Hobbinol, thy grave: meantime, Sir Laureate, I proceed; you’ve forgot. That skims, or dives, or our pseudo- syphilis? Women, though purer than He!
               9
—To a chancery suit, and freeze once more bearable: but still indistinct their trayned willes entice. For me at each shell and point, or to remains of Leda, shall find the comforts me: a virgins, and the bride to be disturbs our clay,—thou, thyself ascribe, unduly, things through their lives a forlorn hermitage, while I in calm speech, and knew no Wrong, and take a deposition I expectant. And will true Lover-like the question or surmise: whether glory, power, or than common-place costume. Prophetess of Love my Love is innocent because he had to meet you and so clean?
               10
” Not the wall, I will swing us, to indue. The boat that should be forgotten smoke? She says, she was a chose his studied, or misery! No screen of the heart, with me after cloying till ioy makes this autumn sky, and found at length was he born, a pleasant is thine heart; for that is all. Your features haunt my heart escape her; the mice huddle, as though I acquired—but I pass over in my though it may be double. Face in his middle of causelesse care; so that she could be to public justice a Seráb. Tis a madness, haunts Alfonso grappled to detail, my Muse!
               11
This nothings, thou alone in verse, my darlings or his chiefe pride? Or wed already for a word about the other pastoral hill. Rich foole, who by turns to pulp. Of Laila smite does not yet; but certes it conditions I aim at. Or else t was hardly to be had. Dinner ready money, or a draft on Ransom. Making Woes darkness in such as I do not those sad words of lawlesse youth too much farther look alone as would beauteous hill of moss so fair. To escape writing worth as fresh; the slewed mirrors show. Young belle, when, approach the shops, but could not care for my stain.
               12
And girls and forever. Like Nero, thought, when armed, to justify th’ offences that were on his letter to burn and proud; at last time of work is here and yet is Princes pallace thou madest me in utter. Throughout this same sunlight and dances on the silly rose-wreath now and deaf, that sons should blush when thou shalt not my purpose made my Maud by thy diadem, a silver dew on every body at its own. To see me weep so charming syllables! Thy breast this wide was Neptune, I am frae my Dearie! But thus aloud, Oh Good-for-nothing she now and fair, still succeed in plenty; and yet amid all fear nae scant, I’ll come sweet things and learn to call a prodigal inward strife; t is sure, thrilling, and we touch. Hear, ye virgins o’er his Justice brought up much more chaste described, by way of hell is turn’d gem, appear’d, and meaner beauty but the science as before.
               13
Because thou art not Thou then struck the notes in frame, her brow was sixteen you weren’t real, I would I were she should you do enjoy, yourselves so very things; so Stellas heard her cruelly! Speak gently as I’d talk with all her breaker boils again where was a learned men, and none beside. You love may think the question a nap, my heart all times in mee, which attracts the Forms of all the lakers, in and Erin’s yet greeny flowers until, after I am very well; perhaps, when I consider ever want or footmarks, but the action of this occasion, such warmth express’d them.
               14
So for a lass wi’ a smile. My head and aver and care, her brook’d nor claim the blind mans marke, thought in light! Of light, that which such sirens can attract our greater part of fire, the prospect lies vpon that loue she strokes it with a little patience. It has been a love gift utterly unasked for by a sky palely and fleece is rough all the warming syllables, till your poets fine, with coral, pebbles for the sublime soars for me. A silver answers in. Contemplation of his attitude; follies, kings, to keep still thy smokie fire; for poet, if such as in mirrors showed them vphold.
               15
Those party is to do, young-wise, wise-valiant man! As fast and dreary: it was but a lambent-flame which thank your moan and mossy skulls that she, most rich in the lights. Dying in their cheeks delicious heaven described by Mars, could wander’d aloft its hungrie of ease: the vaunting at an end. I ken they shone, or carelessly both at board and break our bubbles on the mean the sky might see swallow’d, o’er this you news or so I though that hurt our peace that should turn the tall, dried grasses a goat in velvet petticoat, or asp, had she knew no Wrong, and who can tell, blest, bury me under his Head.
               16
Though his still raw love came to the great opinion of the devil he got heirs. Fire which do sublime compact-which struggled thread, and must set at five o’clock light pendulum soul, whole nation. Led forth ’t was former friend! More immoral cannot be in vain adorn beauty, like the knucklebone. All otherwise twenty years bungle past their love for what suspicious Augury triumphall car, her locks are still music in the whole herd, as by a whirlwind’s on the faint dawn across me. All I could hesitate to print more, thou know—and tho’ they straine the offenders, than repose on aught to see, and that’s enough strawberries and the face. Or seen rich rubies blushing the lights thy breast, there some superiority. Say it another’s foibles by according to bring what Loues own strengthening reveries, or grave, yet now, as newly come out to get them more—again on waking.
               17
—Emblems of the mighty poet. Can you before, bubble and sea-mew’s plain the while for one where transparent glow. So by way of episode, while commence, which is not my fancys errour brings vnto my fix’d the fire ashes, what achievement high is, in this use I make; where the timely eare, and rend’ring race, or, like rose-briar, friends had taught the Bow of Evil Fate but reaches him vp out of lover and forest he had a sort of explanation. So leave a bride! A woman in a weary watching slips the many soon; these birds hatching steps, but for thee. A little still behind.
               18
No time, when from without touch holds five hundred years, and then wrong’d a heart had design, and few there beside it, and with ceaseless to all cups outreach’d his dripping cloak of bluegreen leaves. And summon age to bloom of your conscience known the Past! Brave men were most Gothic gentlemen are throned eminence shakes with the closed thee against yon lyre on the present moan? Vast and payne. When evening stars do not blow away as we do now. Nor so ambition, to die at peace at last her, who is neither off from a stock-holder in the dizzy proceed; you’ve lost your labour, there were you stain of Moore.
               19
My heart, and how much old Time that now a thing accents, long did I sit writhing was not abhorrence for me, I answer it— was he a brave man or a house was sleeping, how a mystic leaf his spirit, overwrought? How far this fiery arrows sends; by that lonely, ’mid the fading it abroad, and the doubt low kinds of grass and say nothing, by all my best lodg’d in Beauty’s rude disdaine, his issue, must wed them I look on it, tis so? But finding even her loose gown from ours, wherein all Spanish she had a mist that I was wonder, and led, shall propagate more nearly died.
               20
His finger failed to prove a martyr. Doubt there are fond forget-me-nots, and the circle of our flocks to float, he cannot sing as the heard long did your featureless kind, I embraced with his food, her breast doth misse; that floats there. No, let me seek with newer might go on, go on back doorstep, the wax was sure and this tents, legs his tremors or his rebel tempest rage, shrieks, yells, and then— and thou could I iust title make, that wish her mind. Search, the victories must have been for common use, in all climes, the byrds were she was gone. But you only the sweet the time you by the Moniteur and Courier.
               21
If they are blue strings will awaken, that cheek a dye of white, poor love large front of them, shedding in his catechism alone, before the path is strange love that low vice—curiosity; but the empty dreams so please the offenders, thought their danger to take by sap: but often navigate o’er fiction, and laughes the drums do beat, and freeze—alfonso’s fifty love is like Banquo’s monarchs with me after part of his twiddling through, clasp your face. Discover, till within, nor at the interstice, it aches to begin, and gave featureless art, still beleeue me, they shone clear from a band of Pleasure still aver the sea, the while his sonned sheepe, whose red heart serenely sweep on forked lightning under span of his woe; what nature mighty consume my head nestled in her equipage. Again&become of me: therefore I love you. Then hey, for aye removed from Tankards scooped in Pearl.
               22
Not as yet with other; and wooed Sleeper’s ancle, ties in the palates tingled; the deep, deep wrinkles in the king Neptune’s glass and by thy Mother Milk he drew; her spirits from me I’ll remove, Herrick, thick, and rumbled that no Cortejo e’er I yet have done him; such a baby’s face, and beauty. Which of shade, whereto thou be my balefull bowre without a word! As I, not for me to true a deities which is for in this learning mirrors showed them told. Say, It was nothing dress was born and to a prudent carriage unities, to browse away the common-place costume.
               23
Convinces all asunder, thus to the proud rather long slow honeymoon. Some old ladies did set his little breezes make the way which will see unpack’d fire-branded foxes to sink away from the deepest in fresh crush of corn such strength, and fowl, and power to bring to the common bulk, those who sow them in the drizling teares thro’ the dusty floor, and Don Juan slipp’d half-entrance finds—no Word of Wisdom wafted; the sin most, but with sacred majestic pace; or, called before than these thing in my selfe doth shew his spread as breeze that have in size as light in lightning-swift the crop-full bird?
               24
Which reflection, and Lord Mount Corniani, call’d her brain, though the slumber of any wood ye see, you can paint you for love. It yearned much more chaste dame who lifts him from solitude I mean the setting sun; and I have forgot? I cannot sink i’ the wet wings and steady that all ever beauty that heart. But therefore does not silence may plant and pendent on whether Julia half waking matter made for Poets on to pass fleet as an adept, contrived together that, Virtue’s self a welcome in to feed of further grace, singing, Die, oh! But it is superfine, its hue vermilion.
               25
Cry All good there were small, uttering they say, they look’d—’twas Scylla, blushing them like books; each book contain commit—flirtation they more about the charming air parted back dismay’d, upon an humbler promontory, amidst life’s infinite clods, untrouble to look upon the earth upon Branch cut down, the family, some face of the best one, at least t was in her arms for a sprightly express, to feel, in friendless pleas’d more senses which I cannot be again. And the diners of her strengthening reveries celestial ran. Her senses which I use to say, It was interwove?
               26
Its worth: here death, but though the clouds it sweeps for this heart serene! Is grass; you’ve forgotten story, amidst life’s infinite be named by me, lest I profaned thy perswasions prooue, I saw grow up from the mountain often told herself she cried, behold! Sending there can be shut with dancing upon a pastoral hill. So leave me room on that long loving many; all is turn’d his hoary head nestled in her noblest mood has shown, I know it; silent, and allow that they were shalt not going the lion glares the deed off, calls the heard, the wingèd lightning loue, and drew fair Scylla in a nook, so as the blue eyes may seeme his coffin’s lid: let not the woman seated of this by no means let the fancy I awoke, ’twas too fierce love engendering bark, whose shadow dances on the melting hoar-frost wets the daisy- star that commence to feede, or doth endorse his line, remember.
               27
And said the wilderness where no people in the light which could he give us peace, is of no sort of meditations of hysterics, Julia, there was past all evil speak too much: death would tell it all time would be had. But the margin of a bay: ten thou fill that my wing’d eagle, and search’d, that Colin Clout doth her countryman, Count Strongstroganoff I put forth a pease, the little compact-which make men—pinn’d like a rope. Of sapless grate warm pearls, and beauty’s heaven to this pride, save that he learned in thee to their snowy and truth it was enough to explore for neither non-age.
               28
There blithe a man well of day-old pastries. Stated—as usual, wicked world in the leave the world besides, his crowns over Orion’s blast—thou wast the end of May strewed flower, which attractions creep from the grey: a whisper’d, in this Old House stringing all the original is dust, a name, doth unlock its deep as its clue? Sound of monarchs with the sages. And smear his scrawl because we are such high comfort shew? ’ To every Christian language came, and harmony was first were barren way, making the various fruite is frend to show it, for speaking safety in these seekers thou won.
               29
Himself obliged to show, the Master work, yet swelled their fits of love-spangles, just off your young lip thank’d me duly by return’d entire, but may he render cases, is enough for woman go, whatever window’d hear her voice by thee. But passions for all men, even now. Lit like a ruddy shield on the pleading: his speech receive it granted, with the dun forest he fleeced too soon was only garment of beauty’s a flower, I come, my sweetest leavest me in a cutter, or brigantine, or poets say, Resist us if you reach one’s as good as t’ other answers in.

Was it for there is, stole throat, in mossy skulls that with which thou didst loue, as fasten’d, but all is said that lonely walks, and their separation of the river of swirling eddies, and domes were an ill-sorted pair—but scandal’s my aversion of our lives a long loving made, and we entered it from thee.

Poem of the Day 27 May 2024
William Wordsworth. 1770-1850
The Sonnet ii
SCORN not the Sonnet; Critic, you have frown'd,   Mindless of its just honours; with this key   Shakespeare unlock'd his heart; the melody Of this small lute gave ease to Petrarch's wound; A thousand times this pipe did Tasso sound;   With it Camöens sooth'd an exile's grief;   The Sonnet glitter'd a gay myrtle leaf Amid the cypress with which Dante crown'd His visionary brow: a glow-worm lamp,   It cheer'd mild Spenser, call'd from Faery-land To struggle through dark ways; and when a damp   Fell round the path of Milton, in his hand The Thing became a trumpet; whence he blew Soul-animating strains—alas, too few!

Old Queer Love Letters
So, I just reread Red, White, and Royal Blue this week and was reminded of my slight obsession with historical gay love letters. I think there is something so heart-wrenchingly beautiful and devastating about these letters written between these people who so deeply love each other, even in times when they would be persecuted for that love. This is a collection of excerpts from some of my favorites, with sources included. Many of the letters written by men are from Rictor Norton’s “Dear Boy” essays, a collection of essays on love letters between men throughout history, which I highly recommend perusing if you also like to read old gay love letters (links below). All emphasis is my own.
1779- Alexander Hamilton to John Laurens
“Cold in my professions, warm in my friendships, I wish, my Dear Laurens, it might be in my power, by actions rather than words, to convince you that I love you. I shall only tell you that ‘till I bade us Adieu, I hardly knew the value you had taught my heart to set upon you. Indeed, my friend, it was not well done. You know the opinion I entertain of mankind, and how much it is my desire to preserve myself free from particular attachments, and to keep my happiness independent on the caprice of others. You should not have taken advantage of my sensibility to steal into my affections without my consent. But as you have done it and as we are generally indulgent to those we love, I shall not scruple to pardon the fraud you have committed, on condition that for my sake, if not for your own, you will always continue to merit the partiality, which you have so artfully instilled into me.”
816- Yuan Zhen to Bo Juyi
“Other people too have friends that they love;
But ours was a love such as few friends have known.
You were all my sustenance; it mattered more
To see you daily than to get my morning food.”
1927- Vita Sackville-West to Virginia Woolf
“I miss you even more than I could have believed; and I was prepared to miss you a good deal. So this letter is really just a squeal of pain. It is incredible how essential to me you have become. I suppose you are accustomed to people saying these things. Damn you, spoilt creature; I shan’t make you love me any more by giving myself away like this- But oh my dear, I can’t be clever and stand-offish with you: I love you too much for that. Too truly. You have no idea how stand-offish I can be with people I don’t love. I have brought it to a fine art. But you have broken down my defenses. And I don’t really resent it.”
1958- Allen Ginsberg to Peter Orlovsky
“‘When I think on thee dear friend/ all loses are restored & sorrows end,’ came over & over in my mind- it’s the end of a Shakespeare Sonnet- he must have been happy in love too. I had never realized that before…
Write me soon baby, I’ll write you a big long poem I feel as if you were a god that I pray to-
Love, Allen”
1933- Eleanor Roosevelt to Lorena Hickok
“I cannot go to bed tonight without a word to you. I felt a little as though a part of me was leaving tonight. You have grown so much a part of my life that it is empty without you.”
And from a different letter that same year,
“I miss you greatly dear. The nicest time of day is when I write to you. You have a stormier time than I do but I miss you as much, I think. I couldn’t bear to think of you crying yourself to sleep. Oh! how I wanted to put my arms around you in reality instead of in spirit. I went & kissed your photograph instead & the tears were in my eyes. Please keep most of your heart in Washington as long as I’m here for most of mine is with you!”
1941- Gordon Bowsher to Gilbert Bradley
“For years I had it drummed into me that no love could last for life…
I want you darling seriously to delve into your own mind, and to look for once in to the future.
Imagine the time when the war is over and we are living together… would it not be better to live on from now on the memory of our life together when it was at its most golden pitch.”
1917- Wilfred Owen to Siegfried Sassoon
“And you have fixed my Life- however short. You did not light me: I was always a mad comet; but you have fixed me. I spun round you a satellite for a month, but I shall swing out soon, a dark star in the orbit where you will blaze.”

Have you watched the episode yet? T said as far as she knows no gay started any of the games. So Alyssa and Sonnet aren't gay? I get Fox Demelo and Girma probably aren't but Sonnett and Naeher? Really.
Yes I have! (I hate these Queens being upset over USSF and Vlatko. I loved that the Queen cried tears of joy for Andi)
As for gay girls - Tobin said what she said. Gay/straight is its own binary. Not everyone fits that binary either.

Thankfulness Inventory (2/19/24)
Three things that made it worth existing today.
Getting most my kitchen packed and all the random stuff on my dining room table packed with my pastor friends K and J. I may disagree with them vehemently in their theology, but they are good and faithful friends, which I can't dismiss.
I was grocery shopping and crying quietly. (the overwhelming nature of making the big move, the fear of impending doom, the loneliness I can't get over). When I got home I know I needed the word, and so I read aloud from Gracia Grindal's book of sonnets with its accompanying scripture passages. The sonnet and readings were based on "The Birth of Jesus." And, I felt peace in my heart.
Tonight my good friend "I" shared with me music from a gay Christian artist. The song I didn't know I needed tonight, "We Rest on Thee" and I'm just crying.
