Unfortunate Update Regarding the Games For Gaza Bundle on Itch.io

Esther Wallace (the creator and host of the Games For Gaza bundle on Itch.io which ran during late October-November of last year) gave an update about the status of the bundle. Unfortunately it sounds like itch has all but dropped the ball in terms of the payout, which has effectively been blocking the funding from reaching Medical Aid for Palestinians and, in turn, Gaza.

She also updated after posting the thread stating Itchio has finally gotten back to her after posting her thread in order to complete the process, but we will have to see how long it actually takes on top of this.

I've complained in the past about how I've grown hesitant over time to seriously recommend itchio as a platform because of situations with support around elements exactly like this.

It's already shocking the frequency at which Itch fails regular creators on its platform, with slow payouts and moderation that's barely present but like...the fact that somehow $300k worth of extremely time-sensitive aid destined to help people currently undergoing genocide manages to somehow just fall through cracks in the system is absolutely unconcionable.

MF-01 Aerostrike - Hotfix 1.5.3

A new patch for MF-01 Aerostrike is now live!

It took quite a few tries to get this update out, but now everyone can enjoy it!

Spacewing War 2 - New Demo coming!

Spacewing War 2 will be getting a new Demo at SAGE '23! That is, September 1st! -Defeat great bosses -Find odd secrets -Level up your weapons -And meet strange characters in this light hearted sci-fi tale! -Available in spanish/¡Disponible en español! I have also implemented a new Dialogue system, as you can see in the trailer. It may seem unnecessary for a Shoot 'Em Up, but I'm convinced it will help me greatly in narrating the story and giving depth to the characters.

This new Demo will make the old one (which you can find here: https://gamespneuma.itch.io/spacewing-war-2-demo-1) very much obsolete. I will keep the old one up anyway, but the game has evolved a huge, huge lot since June!

Besides pattern design, I also do graphic design. This a logo redesign job I’ve recently completed for Haiku Interative’s game Dwerg Saga. It is an indie game where you control a group of characters called Dwergs looking to build a new home. One of the key goals of the redesign was to create a symbol that was scalable across different mediums. The symbol is shaped like a lantern, but also suggests an image of a home with the candle in the centre positioned as if it was a doorway. The logotype was also changed, it uses an open source typeface called Basteleur made by Keussel.

I was also provided consulting work to find a new typeface to be used in game that was easy to read but also fit within the aesthetic of the game. We went with the Spectral typeface by Production Type.

Before I go FULL FORCE into the DHMIS point-and-click thing I'm planning or another (secret) project I have on the backburner, I really want to finish off this... thing. What is it? Well, it's a game I was supposed to be making for a game jam before my computer up-and died on me for a bit. Now that she's fixed, even though the deadline is way past, I still want to at least make it feature complete if not polished. As you can see from the clip above, the whole idea behind the game is watching monitors, picking up people using a hook, and then testing them for some kind of alien disease. I managed to get almost everything working before The Incident. The player can look around, select all the cameras, connect to any of them, select a person to steal, take them to the testing room, and test them with different results. I also made a simple main menu and intro animation. So, if my calculations are correct, the only things left that I'll really need to do before being FEATURE COMPLETE are adding in the ability to scan the sample with different tools, being able to release the person if they aren't infected, and some kind of contact tracing element on one of the top panels, along with putting in all the systems dictating the "levels". Then it's just polish. Theoretically, all this is fairly straightforward. In practice, it's a major pain in the butt since I haven't touched the project for a few weeks, and looking at my own code after such an absence makes me want to pull my own teeth out. But, fingers crossed, I'll have this done and out in a week or two so I can move on to other things without being haunted by another specter of an unfinished game. I have too many of those as it is.
