It’s… so much more than what her game model could manage.

I mean, you knew that, of course you did, but- to see the tiny goddess smiling in person, her cute chubby arms waving in the air, her cheeks all plump with baby fat from her excited smile, pretty green eyes that sparkle only in the way excited toddlers do-

It was just…wow. 🥺

You can’t help it, her sheer carefree excitement, exactly like a child but you know that she must be really overwhelmed with joy if shes letting herself act like that so blatantly, you feel ur muscles tug gently into a smile, you try to muffle it but ur happiness leaks out anyway

She's panting as she stumbles on short chubby legs to reach you.

After just staring at you with those big green clover eyes for a few seconds, she physically shakes her head to knock herself out of it,

Nahida places her hand over her heart, and bows elegantly, going back to looking at you with a small but bright smile, her voice is kind of quiet, muffled in a soft way, much like her game depiction,

…Nahida begins to look a little concerned… her eyes get impossibly bigger.

Nahida had apparently quickly spread the news that you can’t understand them, but luckily it seems like all the characters still know you!

Alhaitham is pretty much a constant by your side, you knew he was vaguely studying linguistics in the akademiya… but that knowledge still didn’t prepare you to be intensely stared at with his diamond pupils for hours. 💀

Then he’d tap your shoulder or something, and you quickly picked up that he wanted you to just try and say something.

Then he would scribble for hours.

Turns out they can understand you about as much as you understand Teyvat language (s? You can’t even tell if there are multiple languages, that’s how unrecognizable this language is, damn)

The more extroverted or friendly people, like Venti, Yoimiya, Kazuha, Jean, Noelle, Amber, Xingqiu, Hu Tao, Zhongli, Ganyu, Barbara, Beidou, Collei, Ayaka, Gorou, Nilou

At least attempt to talk to you, and try very hard to watch what you gesture with your hands or body language

They're pretty much ready to play charades at all times for you lol

Interestingly enough, they only ever understood you when you typed in the chat (with other ppl)

But even then not immediately, 

Sumeru scholars basically had to make a whole new department (regardless of how much you play with others) to decipher your ancient language (to them) like those old clay tablets with cuneiform we’re still translating?

Like that, your words appear in elemental magic heavy places (so like that abyss lang. It’ll appear on walls or structures, so like Andrius’ stone colosseum? in Wolvendom gained some of your chat replies inscribed and glowing a rainbow of colors on the top edges of the walls)

Much like the abyss language you see throughout genshin, most Teyvat scholars (across nations/internationally) agreed your language is the oldest form of language known!

It’s like modern languages having roots in older ones, like English with Latin, greek, or German roots, or Sanskrit and the Prakrit for Hindi language today

…so of course no one really speaks the root languages anymore, because they’re so old, so those ancestors who spoke those languages would have little to no understanding of their modern counterparts…

Occasionally if you turned your mic on for whatever reason there would be a gentle whisper on the winds in Mondstadt of your voice,

or your laugh in the waves washing ashore in Inazuma and Fontaine,

your startled noises or screams from battling bosses mixed with the landslides in the mountains of Liyue

So they know what you sound like, but that doesn’t mean they understood your language :/

Nahida had been hoping that you’re actual physical form being here would help improve the language barrier

But unfortunately, those things remained the same, but at least you were physically here to talk to now and give more content for the scholars to study rather than them having to make do with your snippets of language from chats

…so needless to say, it took you a long time to realize they viewed you as a god of sorts.

You kind of knew something was up when at least two allogenes were by your sides at all times, or eremites would replace them if they really couldn’t stick around

You figured they knew you weren’t nearly as combatant-ready as they were at all times, hell you obviously didn’t have a vision hanging off you somewhere, and you only really had a knife strapped to a belt, courtesy of the Thirty Corps

You are still kind of convinced that the people of Teyvat, or Sumeru at least, are just pretty polite (and in the allogenes case, very kind or friendly, even people like Alhaitham or Cyno, resting bitch faces they have, seem to soften a little when they’re walking around with you… maybe you’re just imagining it…)

And as much as you would love to wait until they understand you to do something more fun, as you can see the frustration on Tighnari’s face (and his ears try to flatten back hehe) as he looked like he was debating heatedly with some of the Sumeru sages who insist you stay in the city

…so why not go?

It’s not like they’re going to get it anytime soon, and it’s still too frustrating for yourself to charade things or draw things for them because you can’t even hear their guesses 💀

You can totally handle being like the traveler too, 

You still have access to your inventory afterall! Plus, lucky for you, you still find a pass for the Serenitea Pot in your little pocket dimension!

So now you have somewhere to sleep at night, and while most of your stuff went to the traveler’s pack, the things like Primogems

(which.. Okay now you really want primogems bc theyre so pretty and shiny irl)✨️

And other high-level things, or just objects of no use for the traveler (so basically all your hoarded level up stuff and infinite amount of weapons lol) came along with you

So you did have to wander the first week or so around the city and even commission the Adventurer’s Guild to grab you food supplies to cook with

Filling up, along with a few big waterskins, you’re off!

...and everyone collectively has a heart attack!

When you show up in Ghandaraville essentially all “✨️💖☺️✨️” on Tighnari’s doorstep-

He chokes on the tea he’d been sipping on before he opened the door lol

He looks a little frazzled so you try to just gesture with “calm yourself small animal” energy with your hands

“Tivzgvhg Oliw! R'n- R- sld wrw blf-?! But then he kinda just devolved into rambling, no need to understand, you can read the vibes and just know that's what he's doing lol

Collei eventually ducks in, and she looks a little panicked?

She’s quickly followed by Cyno, pushing past her to call out into the house,

His voice seems hard and stressed, looking at Tighnari, “Grtsmzir, szev blf hvvm gsv Tivzgvhg Oliw zmbdsviv, gsvb dviv hvvm xlnrmt gl Tszmwziezeroov ozhg-” 

Cyno stops and blinks.

Collei’s mouth is slightly dropped open, she also just, blinks.

You blink. 

Tighnari blinks tiredly, he looks like he’d rather be done for the day, you think.

The doctor sighs, and moves his head to nod towards the other dining seats.

Sumeru foods are so much better looking in real life, and they’re so good too, your practically bloated by the end of dinner, 

As a thank you, bc u cant say it obv, you just gesture for Tighnari to stay sitting, and he gives you a raised eyebrow and a suspicious ear twitch

But stays still, and you reach out to finally hit the eight-pointed star hovering over his, and all playable characters chests at all times.

Like you suspected, it brings up a holographic character menu, but rather than his full model, it kind of hovers in front of Tighnari’s face, replacing his old 3D model self with framing the real thing for a portrait just in front of his face

The poor Denro user nearly jumps a foot out of his chair as he looks in shock at your screen, you do the same “chillll boy” gesture with your hands and press his shoulders for a second to remind him to not run off or panic

Cyno and Collei had done the dishes and put up leftovers, and are now standing behind Tighnari, watching with equally wide eyes,

“...Dszg ziv gsvb wlrmt gl blf?

Cyno’s voice is even deeper and quieter than usual, you feel goosebumps run up your spine

“Ziv blf tvggrmt yovhhvw, Nzhgvi Grtsmzir?!” Collei’s sweet voice is also hushed like she’s witnessing something sacred, Tighnari gently shakes his head negatively in response, his shoulders shrugging,

“Nzbyv? R uvvo... z orggov hgilmtvi, zmw nb Erhrlm rh zxgrmt fk zh dvoo…”

Though he’s replying, Tighnari’s eyes haven’t once left your ancient magic? technology device? hovering in front of him,

and as he crosses his arms and squints to try and look closer at everything floating in front of him, you can see the childlike gleam of awe in his green eyes, (so cute) in fact, now that you glance up and look, both Collei and Cyno have the same quietly excited and fascinated sparkle in their eyes too

With a displeased sneer, you chuck his old level one bow into the material grinding spots, hope he wasn’t attached to that…

Oh well, he’ll like the new one better, afterall, with no characters, all your best weapons and artifacts are ready to use!

With a small smile of reassurance, you finally finish gearing Tighnari up, tap a miniature version of that 8-point star in the corner like an “X” button, and it retreats like a classic TV set📺 turning off into his chest, he startles but then carefully stands

You decide to just start making decisions bc its worked out so far ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And grab his hand and haul him out into the forest, Collei letting out a surprised squeak, her and Cyno hurrying after

You reach the nearest clearing, and gesture at Tighnari like a bow and arrow firing, he gets it, and your glad he already trusts you, because he doesn’t take long to summon his bow

He takes aim at a smaller tree about two cars length away

You can feel them all holding their breathe, as Tighnari charges it with Dendro, the arrowhead glowing, (it looks so cool and badass irl god you feel envious even tho ur already here-)

The ranger lets it fly, it streaks neon green, whistling through the air, it hits the tree-

and it fucking explodes.

Vines and leaves and the trees roots all rapidly swell like theyre filled with water, like it literally got hit by a superhero with plant powers, which, not that far off actually.

The green floating Dendro seeds make a ring around the tree its so full of elemental energy-

You give a wild grin, you still got it, hell yeah. >:)

Your grin widens as you look over at Tighnari, Collei, and Cyno

Cyno has a smirk lighting up his face, eyes eager, Collei’s jaw has dropped and she’s just frozen staring as the tree finally settles from the burst of the dendro powered arrow

…Tighnari has lowered his bow, and his mouth is only slightly open, his ears perked straight up into the air, shaking with excitement? Happiness? Interest? You don’t know how peopl-animal-hybrid ears work,

and you STILL cant talk to any of them to ask what they thought, so looks will have to do >:/

Tighnari is the first to move, his head snapping over to look at you, the brightest, kinda feral tbh, smile taking over his face-

“Blf pmld, dv xzm'g fmwvihgzmw blf, zmw blf fh, bvg R xzm'g dzrg gl hvv dszg rm gsv dliow blf'iv tlrmt gl wl mvcg. Blf'iv znzarmt."

… and you just 🙂? Cool!

Alhaitham was literally running around Sumeru City trying to find you when you left, tho you did try and leave a translatable-in-3-to-5-business days-note, he didn’t have time to translate that because you were gone.

Or worse, lost in the city, and he would never forgive himself if he lost you, esp as Acting Grand Sage-

Kaveh got a letter a day and a half later from Tighnari letting them know you were having a sleepover in Ghandarvaville lol

Kaveh also had to hunt down Alhaitham to give him said news, then force his roommate to go sit or lay down for the rest of the day to recover lmao

(Haitham honestly kinda freaked Kaveh out bc he’s never seen him that... desperate, it was like seeing a statue emote lol)

One Tenth Scale Mata Nui

Mata Nui is a cool place, but did you ever feel that it was a bit...big for what it was?

The official maps put the island at 357 kio long, which if you take to be a stand in for kilometres¹, would make the island 357 kilometres long.

This lines up roughly with what we can see in the concept art: they say that Mata Nui is around the size of Denmark, the real measurement being 368km, and it matches with what we see in the Mata Nui Rising cgi video.

So that's all well and good, Mata Nui is 357km long, the GSR itself is 3300km tall, all hunky-dory, as long as you ignore some guy named Greggory yelling about how the robot is actually much bigger, but its fine to ignore him.

But now, actually consider what this means. Denmark is by no means a small country, it has a population of 6 million and would take hours to drive across by car on modern roads. Now that isn't an issue really, but in most media depicting the island its shown to be a place that can be traversed by foot or on animal back in a reasonable time frame.

But now let us look at this earlier map:

Initially the most interesting thing to me on this map was the 3rd measurement: the height of the Mangai volcano²

Now on the one hand, this was cool, now I know how tall to make the volcano, on the other hand... 23km seems pretty big.

It is. 23km is higher than Olympus Mons, the largest known volcano in the solar system, standing at only 21.9km. So that's pretty big. This made me start thinking about how far various things are apart and how long it would actually take and using some very VERY generous numbers I started plotting out how long it would take to actually get from place to place.

It wasn't very pretty. In the Mata Nui Online Game it would have taken Takua roughly 5 hours to walk from the beach to Ta-Koro, and another 18 to get to Onu-Koro using the highway. Now this would be fine in an epic like Lord of the Rings, but in Bionicle Mata Nui is consistently treated as a place people can pretty quickly get around on.

The Toa are running all over the place and bumping in to each other. Kopaka getting in to the Caldera at the top of the Mangai volcano isn't the equivalent of climbing 3 Mt Everests in a row, its just something he does. Takua travels all over the island in a pretty small amount of time, unless we're supposed to insert day long journeys in between every screen transition.

But then I noticed something. Something very interesting.

Now lets look at the two keys for the sizes on the released and the early map:

Seems pretty consistent, the sizes of the island are the same, a Toa is 1.6 bio on both (incidentally a real Toa figure is approximately 16cm tall), everything seems to match.

But then I counted the zeroes.

The old map has a kio being not 1000 bio, but 100!

You can even see it on the other version of the map.

Now this is incredibly interesting! This shrinks Mata Nui to 1/10th of its commonly accepted size! It goes from being the size of Denmark to being the size of the Isle of Man.

Which....really works a lot better! This turns Takua's trip from the beach from a 5 hour hike to a short half hour walk. This turns the cable car to Mt Ihu from a massive 70km mega structure to something that's dwarfed by real world constructions.

I don't think this is a mistake either, looking at the details of the map.

You have much finer details, such as these ice shelves collapsing in to small icebergs, whereas on the full sized map some of the larger chunks of ice are kilometres across.

One of the major things it includes are the mesas that can bee seen in many of the promotional renders set in Le-Wahi which are nowhere to be seen on the final map. At this 1/10 scale the plateaus seen would match up well with the massive mesas seen in monument valley in terms of size, but with the final size they would be absolutely massive (10 times as big if you can believe it!)

So suffice to say, I don't think this is just a case of a zero being dropped, it really seems to line up with the level of detail on this earlier map.

But what does this do to the GSR? I hear you cry, well it varies. Going by the earlier numbers it would simply be 1/10th the size, so 330km tall instead of 3300km, so still very large, but depending on the size relationship between the robot and the island it could be as "small" as 180km

The island in this picture is roughly the same size as normal, just covers more of the GSR. The final GSR's head is so proportionately tiny compared to its body that the Mata Nui island had to be very small to cover it. But in any case, a robot "only" 180km tall standing up is still going to tower over anything, its many times higher than airplanes fly, its taller than most clouds, really it would be quite consistent with this render:

So, in conclusion, an earlier concept of the island of Mata Nui has it being 1/10 of the size of the final, and that size seems to work better with what we see in various media from the time, and works better with the story.

Personally this is what I'll be going with in terms of the scale of the island going forward, as it really fits with my vision of the setting and works well with all the story and media from that time.

¹-I don't care about someone saying a bio is 4.375966487787¾ feet, feet aren't real and neither are you. ²-Mt Ihu is NOT the highest point on the island, the GSR isn't Pinocchio with a big pointy nose, this has never been reflected in any visual media.

A super quick five-minute guide to writing a Stranger Things fic with no experience of DnD:

Edited for some clarity since people asked for it. See reblogs for more time-accurate DnD, and more specific rules!

Alternatively; If you never played or barely know DnD, but wish to write about it nonetheless, here are some quick FYI’s

These points are made based on things I have read on this site and other platforms. In no way is this a personal attack if you recognise your own writing! I have seen many posts where people complain about the inaccuracy of DnD represented in fics, but none offer any ideas, so that’s why I wrote this. Hope this helps!

1. DND IS NOT A TWO PLAYER GAME

You need one Dungeon master, and at least three players to create a good campaign. I’d say a normal party consists out of five players (DM not included), but it can quite easily be bigger.

(There are starter campaigns with one DM and one player, but for a good game, you’d need a bigger party. Introductions to DnD are way more fun with a good group)

2. DND IS NOT A QUICK GAME

There is no such thing as playing a quick round of DnD. Even starter campaigns can be hours long. A short/mini campaign is usually around 4, if not more, hours.

3. THERE ARE MORE DICES THAN JUST THE D20

Though the D20 is the dice you will use more often, there are other ones as well; the D4, D6, D8, D10, and - occasionally - the D100

4. THERE ISN’T ONE DND BOOK

DnD might appear as a fun role playing game, but there is a lot of effort that goes into it. With that counting the books. Players usually only need the Player’s Handbook, which contains information about how to play and how to make a character. Vice versa does the DM have a Dungeon Master’s guide, which introduces them to the game and how to direct it. Aside from that, there are a lot of other books containing different worlds, campaigns, creatures, characters, monsters etc. etc.

5. YOU CANNOT MAKE YOUR OWN DND HANDBOOK

Bouncing back on point 4, as there are many books, there are also many pages. A book isn’t easily studied, and is usually only used as a reference, and not something you have to know by heart. It is incredibly difficult to memorise every little detail of only one book. Aside from that, there are many many rules and restrictions bound to certain worlds and characters, so creating your own book, 9 out of 10 times would not make sense. It doesn’t make it impossible, but it is highly unlikely. Also, the DM will often times pitch in on which races and classes to use for certain campaigns, so creating your own species often won’t get you very far.

6. NOT ALL DND CAMPAIGNS HAVE A MAP AND MINIATURES

In season 4, we see Eddie’s campaign, with it a map and miniatures of creatures (under which Vecna), but this doesn’t occur as often as you think. Starter campaigns or other well known campaigns do contain maps, and miniatures of both the characters and creatures, but this is only because most of those campaigns don’t actually allow you to make your own character. A campaign self-written, or a campaign taken from a book about a certain world often times do not have anything, save from some drawings of your surroundings. There will be a lot of times you’ll have to imagine your character standing in a certain spot.

7. WRITING A CAMPAIGN IS DIFFICULT AND ISN’T WRITTEN IN A DAY

Extending some information; writing campaigns are a pain in the ass. As a first time DM, you will not write your own campaign. Unless you are really committed and already have some experience as a player…. If you have played often, writing a campaign is possible, but it takes weeks, if not months. A lot of info and rules and restrictions and creatures etc. etc. are involved in the process. Besides that, you’ll have to help your players out with their characters to fit to your world, while not revealing too much. You cannot write a campaign in a night.

8. CREATING A CHARACTER TAKES A LONG TIME

Like writing a campaign, a character also takes time. If you are really dedicated, you might have one in an hour, but if you want to properly study every race, class and background, you’ll be stuck in the books for a while. And that’s not even with counting characteristics, alliances, backstory, mannerisms, bonds, relations…. And then you’ll have to actually get in character. It takes time.

(As said, some people can create characters quickly, but this is with experience. More often than not, if you want to write a good character, you’ll be busy for quite a while)

9. EVERYTHING RELIES ON THE DUNGEON MASTER

As a player, you can’t change the story. You can’t make things up. Everything, and I mean everything, goes by the Dungeon Master first. You can’t propose things, you can’t ignore things. Dungeon Masters spent a lot of time working on campaigns, even the ones that have already been written. They know what happens, they decide. There is no second voice.

(Yes, players are able to interact with the story. It wouldn’t be DnD if you couldn’t, but the DM knows what happens, and the players - or the characters - do not. You could ignore creatures or buildings. Smart? Meh.)

"kat, you gotta wake up now." i sat on the edge of the bed and placed a hand on her arm, shaking her a bit. she came to after a few moments of me shaking her lightly. kat's groggy face turned to look at who was tearing her from her sleep. "hey sleeping beauty." i grinned down at her. "mm, i jus' need five more minutes."

"we have that meeting soon, you gotta get up, min." everyone in the team called her mini, or min, because of her short stature, but i was an exception. i called her kat, only on occasion did i switch it for mini.

"fuuuuckk." she drawled out. eventually she sat up slowly and got up. the small child next to her had shuffled around and woke up at the slight commotion near her. "hey harps." i ruffled her her a bit and she giggled at me. i picked her up and smoothed down her clothes before katrina walked out of the bathroom, her hair fixed and looking slightly less tired.

"let's head down, yea?"

i only received a light mumble in response, kat's way of agreeing. we knew each other in and out by now, we'd been best friends for years. probably from the first time we met years ago at her then club, brisbane roar, and soon after mine.

i had signed a deal with the club, contracted for 5 years. katrina had already been there for a year or two when i joined, but her contract ran out two years before mine did. she moved from there that year, signing with some other club over in england, leaving me behind.

unbeknownst to me, she did a stint with the club in england but then moved to a sweden club which i would later sign with. it was a big offer from them and a big sign for me, having to move from australia to sweden and play for vittsjö gik. but i quickly decided it was the best decision i'd made in my life when i saw katrina on the training field at my first session. we were inseparable and attached at the hip again, we went everywhere together.

i had, very, quickly caught some sort of feelings towards the older woman when we first met and didn't know how to feel about that fact, choosing to ignore the butterflies that made chaos of my abdomen when i saw her.

i never knew if she had felt the same, and didn't want to ruin what bond we had together so i never said a word. now here we are, at national camp together, about 10 years later. it was a messy situation, especially on my end, but i made the most of it, loving every moment i got to spend with katrina, and her little harper.

"thank you for looking after harps, y/n." she brought me out of my little daydream with her gratitude. "it's all good, kat. i love the kid as much as anyone." harper wriggled around in my arms at my words.

we had made it to the meeting room then, and joined the rest of the team to take a seat.

it felt like a whole year had gone by after we left that room. my butt had gone numb from how long i was in that seat for. harper was in my arms again as me and kat walked out and towards the cafeteria. i honestly thought i could eat a horse, my last meal was at breakfast, almost 5 hours ago. i grabbed what i could fit onto my plate and raced over to a table and placed everything on the surface. katrina handed harper off to me while she went to get her's and harps lunch.

we sat in comfortable silence eating our food, me more so devouring. i finished everything on my plate and was finally full. both kat and harper were still eating, and both were laughing at me and my content sighs after eating for two people. "shut up, i was starving." i send a joking look to kat and she laughs some more at me.

"mama. water, please." harper's voice catches us both off guard, and we both just stare at her as she looks at me and makes grabby hands for my water bottle.

"did she..?" i trail off in a silent question to katrina. "yea.. she did." i went white as a sheet, body frozen. i finally found it in me and passed harper my water bottle. the kid latches onto it and drinks some. i was still shocked and hadn't uttered any words other than confirming what we'd both seen with kat.

my brain seemed to malfunction as my mind told me i needed to leave. i grabbed my plate, making some sort of excuse to get out of the room.

i bolted, heading for my own room this time. i flopped down on my bed, mind racing a million miles and hour. harper called me mama! i was elated but also worried at the same time. what if kat didn't want her kid to think of me as her second mum? my nerves and anxiety were called to the forefront and i kept asking myself questions without answers.

it felt like two seconds but there was a knock on my door, and suddenly it opened. i shot upright, and seeing it was kat, flopped back down.

i couldn't even look her in the face as she walked over. "y/n. are you okay?" "umm, yes?" it came out more as a question rather than a statement. "you're not. you were white as a ghost before." a split second of reckless thought sent me over the edge and i blurted. "harper called me mama." i didn't know what i was doing, i just needed to air that statement.

"yea, about that. i'm sorry, i didn't know she saw it like that." "you're.. sorry?" i was confused. did she not want me to be a mum to harper? "yea, i didn't think you wanted things to be like that."

surely she's joking. "kat.." i sat up and took a deep breath.

"katrina, i would love to be a mum to harper. i never told you any of this, and it's been at least 4 years of me bottling up my feelings. i have liked you so much, for the longest time. i have wanted nothing more to hug you as more than friends for the longest time. but i never said anything because i didn't want to ruin our friendship. you're like my best friend. but i want us to be more."

shit. i just ruined it didn't i? i looked up at katrina tentatively, scared to see her expression.

surprisingly, it wasn't one of hate. she almost looked.. relieved? "oh thank god." that was a new one. she sat down next to me so we were eye level again.

"i am so glad you said something, i would have gone another few years without saying anything. i like you so much more than friends, y/n. i can't even begin to explain how thankful i am to have you in my life, to help me with harper, or to just be with me when i need a shoulder to cry on."

what she says catches me off guard, i fully expected her to shun me and tell me she wasn't interested.

"wait.. really?" she nods with a smile. "yes really. you mean so much to me-" i cut her off by pressing my lips to hers. she freezes up but just as quickly, kisses me back. her lips are soft, sweet, they taste like caramel. i had my hands on either side of her face. she moves hers down to wrap around my waist. everything around us stops moving as we continue in our own little world. finally we break apart to take a breath.

"katrina-lee gorry, do you wanna be my girlfriend?"

"always, y/n y/l/n."

A Very Quick Review of Princess Peach Showtime

A very short (5 to 7 hour) game that has a lot of style and not a lot of substance.

Each outfit looks amazing and brings a new power for Peach to use that can only ever be used in singular levels and never in tandem or crossed with other powers in any single stage.

Less of a sequel to Super Princess Peach and more of a "If Kirby Could Only Have One Assigned Power Per Level" game.

Stella (Peach's partner and power up giver) is fine and the Sparkle power (Peach's dress up abilities) are neat but fall flat because there is no growth in problem solving with these powers.

A fine game but felt more like a proof of concept than a "$60 Game From Nintendo" and doesn't ultimately feel like it adheres to Nintendo's historically documented game design philosophy.

Rating: "I Miss Peach's Vibe Wand from Super Princess Peach" out of 10.

Summary: While sleeping together, Y/N wakes up realising her period came early and she bled through the bedsheets, and Charles is taking care of her.

Fluff

You were finished taking your bath and drying your hair, then wore one of Charles' hoodies and a pair of shorts. Charles was in his office streaming with his friends. It was only 10 o'clock at night, but you were already feeling sleepy, so you decided to go kiss him goodnight before going to sleep.

You entered his office quietly, seeing him focused on his game. He didn't notice you getting in, so you tapped his shoulder lightly.

He turned around seeing you and kissed your cheek. "Hey princess. Everything okay?" he smiled. "I'm going to sleep. Will you come join me?" I responded, yawning. "Let me finish this race first and I'll come join you in 5." he kissed your lips gently. "Okay, I'll go then" you said, getting out.

You went to your bedroom and laid down in the king size bed, eyes closed, waiting for him. A few minutes later, you heard footsteps, you felt the mattress sinking and his arms wrapping around you, pulling your body close to him, kissing your cheek goodnight before you drifted off to sleep.

You woke up in the middle of the night, tears falling down your cheeks and a terrible pain in your lower abdomen. Charles felt you shifting around and woke up. "Why are you awake princess? What's bothering you?" he whispered softly, half asleep. "M-my stomach...it-it hurts...very much." a sob escaped your mouth. He got close to hug you, looking all over your body and his gaze stopped at your legs, his eyes widening in shock.

You looked down. There was a huge bloodstain in-between your legs and a even bigger one in the bedsheets. You started to panic, bursting out in tears. Charles hugged you tightly. "Hey hey shhhh... it's okay... don't worry about it" he whispered in your ear. "I-i ruined the bed, I'm sorry..." you could hardly speak "I'm useless."

He wiped your tears away. "No princess. You're the most talented, capable and beautiful person I've ever met. You're bold and happy and daring and even dangerous sometimes, don't say such things about yourself." You couldn't stop crying "You say such things because you are my boyfriend." "No, i mean these, not just because I'm your boyfriend."

You stayed in his hug for a bit more, and , when he was sure you calmed down he got up. "I'm gonna go run a warm bath for you and find clean clothes, okay?" You looked at him "Thank you Charlie." You tried to smile.

He went to your wardrobe, got a pair of panties and shorts and ran to the bathroom. After a bit he came back, carried you to the bathroom and helped you undress, then got you in the tub. "Stay here and relax as long as you want." he said, kissing your forehead.

You sat there for maybe half an hour, when you decided to come out. Charles went to check up on you and helped you dress and put a pad/tampon on ( your preference luvs) and carried you in the bedroom, laying you down gently in the clean bedsheets.

"Here" he said, giving you a painkiller and a glass of water. You swallowed it and he layed down with you, wrapping his arms around your body carefully and pulling up the blanket. "Better now, princess?" you nodded yes. "Well goodnight my beautiful lady" he kissed your forehead and pulled you close. You soon fell asleep listening to his steady heartbeat and hypnotized by his scent.

Been thinking about the turtles' sleeping habits and such for a fic. This was meant to be a short one but I ended up having too many ideas so enjoy.

Raph:

Likes to sleep with his door open to be able to hear everything around the lair.

Somehow both a light and a heavy sleeper at the same time. Will wake up from the quietest suspicious sound, will be up on his legs in a second when his brothers come to him at 3AM because of a nightmare, but also won't budge when they literally jump on him to try to wake him up for breakfast.

Sleeps with a single quilt he and Mikey made together, with no pillow and with a LOT of teddy bears.

Belly sleeper.

Will use his teddy bears as a pillow when needed.

Will use his brothers as pillows during turtle piles as well.

Snores.

Used to sleepwalk a lot as a kid, happens way less often as a teen but could still happen once in a while.

And he has a sleepwalking stink of course.

Sometimes talks in his sleep too.

Has a very consistent sleeping schedule and wakes up pretty early without an alarm clock, but only on weekdays.

On weekends it's almost impossible to wake him up before 11 and definitely not before 9.

Takes him a while to get out of bed after he wakes up, and he's pretty slow during the morning, only really waking up after breakfast.

He also likes reading comics or play some idle game on his phone before going to sleep.

Donnie:

Sleeps with his door closed and locked.

Prefers to have white noise on.

Prefers sleeping with a weighted blanket.

Uses a either a gel pillow or a memory foam pillow. (Those ones that hold their shape that are good for back sleepers) - I actually went back to "The Purple Jackets" episode and it does look like he's using a gel/memory foam pillow.

I was gonna say he's a back sleeper and then I saw the scene in "The Purple Jackets" again and he changed his sleeping position like three times there, so I'm gonna say he falls asleep on his back and rolls around a lot during sleep.

While he likes the white noise and weighted blanket he doesn't actually need them to sleep. If he closes his eyes while sitting/lying down he's gonna fall asleep after 5 minutes max.

He also falls asleep if he just touches a bed for long enough.

And it also takes him exactly 5 minutes to get ready for bed. So 10 minutes from when he walks into his room until he's completely asleep.

Likes sleeping in small confined spaces. (Wrapping him in a blanket like a baby counts as a small space. The space under his desk is also a small space. The space under the sofa is too. And space between his brothers during a turtle pile.)

He has strict rules about his sleeping schedule. He wakes up at either 7:40 or 9:10 every day. He will stop working and go to sleep at either 1:30am or 3:00am. If he misses both he'll just work through the night and go to sleep the night after that.

He misses both marks quite often.

The only way to make him break those rules is with a turtle pile.

One thing he cannot tolerate though is scratchy beddings. He will not fall asleep if something scratchy is touching him.

I feel like he doesn't like ignoring his notifications so he always makes sure he didn't left anything unread before going to bed, and he makes sure to do that during the 5 minutes it takes for him to get ready. But sometimes someone sends him something dumb that makes him angry enough to drop everything and start a stupid online argument that lasts all night. So sometimes he just stays standing in the middle of his room without moving for hours instead of going to sleep, or he'll end up sitting in his chair with his phone. If he chooses to sit on his bed tho he ends up falling asleep almost immediately.

Leo:

Insomniac™

Sleeps with his door open a crack, enough for light and some sounds to get in but not enough to make him feel vulnerable.

But he also gets sleep paralysis once in a while and having your door be open just a crack is like perfect nightmare fuel so when that happens and his sleep paralysis demon peeps in he probably goes to sleep in Mikey's room for like a week.

Also definitely just have nightmares in general almost every night. He's used to it by this point. He does wake up from them like three times a night tho.

Has a nightlight. Cannot sleep without it.

And a digital alarm clock with glowing numbers that's always facing the bed so he'll know how long he slept for.

It takes him like half an hour to fall asleep on a good day and three hours on a bad day. Usually spends that time scrolling his phone until he can't possibly keep his eyes open for a second longer.

Uses like 5 blankets - a quilt over his legs, a fuzzy throw blanket around his shoulder, two more summer blankets and finally a comforter over everything. Or maybe swap one of the summer blankets for a weighted blanket, I haven't decided yet.

If he does use a weighted blanket though then he can't sleep without it.

He likes sleeping completely covered up from head to toe. Uses one of the summer blankets to cover his head to not get completely overheated, and to be able to see his nightlight and hear the noises from outside his room.

Uses three pillows - gel/memory foam pillow, understuffed normal pillow and an overstaffed normal pillow. The overstuffed one is to lean on when he's sitting scrolling on his phone, the other two are for sleeping on.

Has a small decorative pillow he got from April that he hugs to sleep every night.

Other than scrolling on his phone for the few hours before he falls asleep he actually makes an effort to only sit on his bed when it's nighttime.

He also always has a fan on for the noise and the airflow, but it's never directly facing him or it'll wake him up.

On really bad nights he can't fall asleep he gets up and makes himself something hot to drink (yes this is also inspired by "The Purple Jackets" episode how did you know?)

And then he'll go bother Donnie.

He loves sitting in Donnie's lab while Donnie is working. He either watches him working quietly, or he whines like a little bitch until Donnie gives up and talks to him, and then they spend all night talking about the most random stuff.

He likes reading comics before bed too, or fanfiction/fancomics on his phone. He'll read the most garbage incomplete fic that was witten in half an hour at 3am and posted 5 years ago, unironically enjoy it, and screenshot his favourite lines and send to Donnie.

I also think he sleeps in fetal position, but wakes up in the most absurd positions.

Mikey:

Prefers sleeping with his door closed, but doesn't actually mind if it's open.

Can sleep anywhere, anytime. Will fall asleep in the most awkward positions and awkward places.

Sometimes sleeps inside his shell, especially if it's somewhere with too much light.

Can lucid dream. Might be something he can do by mixing his lucid dreams with his mystic powers? Didn't think this through yet.

Sleeps with a huge thick comforter during winter and a super thin throw blanket during summer, just switches between them one day during fall/spring.

And he also has a blanket Raph knitted him that he always sleeps with. Like they all have blankets Raph knitted them but he's the only one who consistently sleeps with his every night. Hugs it more than covers himself with it.

Has a million different pillows and always burrows himself between them when he sleeps, in a different position every time of course.

Has a pretty healthy sleeping schedule, he gets tired at a reasonable hour and goes to sleep, sleeps for 5-6 sleeping cycles per night.

Goes to sleep early and wakes up early. He and Raph are the first to wake up, but he's the first to get up and get ready usually.

Really energetic during the morning. He's the only one of them who's like this, and Leo is the only one who can really keep up with him before breakfast.

He also has a lot of plushies on his bed but he sleeps with them less.

Will always sleep hugging one of Raph's arms during turtle piles.

I went a bit overboard with the headcanons whoops. This was supposed to be like 3-4 ideas for each one of the guys and mainly focus on like, the door and the blankets, and I ended up adding way too many things~

Who are your top 10 misunderstood characters from Life is Strange and Telltale’s The Walking Dead and why?

Kate (LIS) - Kate isn't misunderstood the same way Rachel and Chloe are, but I do think she's often portrayed as much more feeble then she actually is. For example: Kate stands for herself plenty in game. If you tell her to wait for more proof, she'll send Max this text. "Max. Sorry to have bothered you by asking for your advice. I guess I shouldn't do anything but let people enjoy my video all over the world." She'll also bluntly confront Max if you don't intervene when David's in her face. Don't get me wrong, Kate IS an utter sweetheart, but she's not a doormat either. She has a bit of a bite on multiple occasions.

Max (LIS) - Max is similar to Kate for me. I think she's often portrayed as much more feebly then she is. Some people treat her like she's a ...well...doe but she has a very strong bite to her! I mean, she's back with Chloe for 48 hours at most and she pulls a gun on Frank and maybe pulls the trigger. Also, if you don't side with Chloe for a choice, Max is very sassy about Chloe's objections. Chloe will say something like: "If you only you told David it was your joint," and Max will go "Oh, sorry, I was to busy saving your life. 🙄" Max is a very strong character, so I'm shocked that a lot of people see her as being super delicate. She's the furthest thing from a doormat.

More Undercut

Rachel (LIS) - Rachel deserves better. I can't even really get into this fully on this post because I want to keep my reasons shortish (well...short for me) but for a very quick and not detailed recap of my thoughts. 1. We don't even know if she cheated on Chloe, so, no, she's not the devil for sleeping with Frank. 2. Rachel is manipulative to a certain degree, but there's no indicator that she was an evil serpent women who only spoke in lies and manipulation. 3. There's plenty of in game evidence that she cared about Chloe. We can argue all day about whether she was ever in love with Chloe or not, but there's more than enough to back up that she at least cared for her.

Chloe - I'm going to make short points with her like I did with Rachel because this another topic I could make a full rant about. 1. She is mean, but some people really exaggerate the extent of it. 2. She's not evil for being mad that her best friend who ghosted her figured out how to work a phone when Kate called. 3. She's not a bitch for not liking her Step Father who is abusive to her. 4. She's not terrible for having a tense relationship with her Mother, who made it very clear that David is more than important than her. 5. Women are allowed to be flawed.

Ryan (LIS TC) - I will defend Ryan until the day I die. I know it isn't his best moment if he doesn't believe Alex at the end...but of course he doesn't believe Alex in all the endings?? Jed is his FATHER. A father he's close with and has been told his entire life is a hero. Then Alex (rightfully) bursts in and pops his bubble, and in the moment, he doesn't handle that well unless there's a lot of confirmation that his loving father is actually a hidden monster. And yes, I know that Steph backs up Alex no matter what...but Jed isn't her Dad, and she isn't as connected to the town, or it's stories, as deeply as Ryan is. She loses way less if Alex is telling the truth, while Alex's (rightful) honesty destroys what's left of Ryan's family after he already lost his Mother.

Violet (TWDG) - I've always thought it was weird how upset people got when Vi betrayed Clem in the cells. First off...Clem betrayed her first?? Vi spent the entire game defending Clem when no one else would. When AJ killed Marlon she stood in front of them with a cleaver to protect them from the other kids. When everyone voted to kick Clem and AJ out, she was the one shouting from the rooftops that it was unfair. When Clem and AJ came back, she was the one who insured that they could stay. And yet, when Clem saw her in danger, she chose not to save her. It's not shocking that she feels so upset, but it did shock me how fans reacted to it, and I'm someone who saved and romanced Louis! I mean...how unfair is a betrayal really if they stab you with the same knife you stuck in their back?

Louis (TWDG) - It's crazy how much of Ryan's paragraph I could apply to Louis. Of course he gets mad when Clem's murder toddler, who has never been taught restraint, puts a bullet in his best friends head. Marlon had given up. The gun was no longer in his hands. Clem had it handled peacefully, and then the situation ended with a bullet. I totally understand why he was mad, and I even understand why he wanted them to leave and not come back. He was mourning, and his pain is made even worse if you had Clem appeal to him because he helped disarm Marlon and that led to his death. So, in other words, I think his rage in episode 2 is very understandable. Plus, he moves on from his anger and apologizes for kicking them out in...Episode 2. The same episode the anger starts.

Sarah (TWDG) - People complain about her being a burden so much, but honestly that's Carlos's fault. She never really got a chance to be a survivor in the apocalypse because she was sheltered non-stop, and there's multiple moments that imply that she could have made it if things were different. I don't FULLY blame Carlos for sheltering her since I understand wanting your child to grow up in peace instead of surrounded by horror...but he really screwed her over. I think people should be way harsher on him than her. Sarah was doing her best. Carlos was not.

Ben (TWDG) - In the same manner as Sarah, people often complain that he's a burden. And...he kinda is, but also he's also literally sixteen years old. He makes bad choices because he's naive, not because he's malicious. Also, I know he indirectly got Duck and Katjaa killed, but the bandits were threatening to kill EVERYONE in the group if he didn't slip medicine to them. What Ben did got Katjaa and Duck killed, but who's to say the bandits wouldn't have kept their word and killed the entire group if he had refused. He was put in a no win situation, and honestly I just so much pity for him. I'm glad my Lee looks out for him.

Jane (TWDG) - Jane is...weird because she is a bad person but also some people act like she never cared about Clem and had entirely selfish motivations. She cared about Clem enough to teach her how to survive, which is something she never bothered to do with Sarah, even though she needed a mentor much more than Clem. And for as much as I disagree with her of philosophy of "never trust anyone, people are bad," I do think she was genuinely trying to help and giving what she thought was good advice. She also comes back and saves the group during the shoot out for Clem's sake, which proves that her motivations aren't entirely selfish...just mostly.

I played Needy Streamer Overload, which was a lot of fun, with an asterisk. NSO is a Lifesim Management game for a batshit up-and-coming streamer, where you as her 'boyfriend' allocate her time between streaming, resting, and content inspiration/development to hit 1 million followers. The writing is very on point for actual streams culture;the topics and comments and all that are very true-to-life, while its zany edgecore presentation is hilarious. And the UI is full kino:

Vibes - and also, spoilers, not just a cutesy aesthetic, as the player is not in fact a real person so the digital viewport is ludonarratively cohesive, +1 point.

However, it also pissed me off for specific me reasons!

So, these games tend to go into two buckets. One is the engine builder - managing the lifesim is both involved and The Point of the game. You work hard to optimize and achieve the goal. The second is narrative device - the lifesim elements are more about narrative choice than challenge, and either can't be failed or are trivially cleared. You approach playing those 2 game types differently.

NSO presents itself like the former - its mechanics are pretty involved. Managing Followers, Stress, Affection, & Mental Darkness, all on a clock, while unlocking ~10 different streaming content topic progression trees, its a lot to track. Not saying its crazy hard or anything, but its what you spend your time doing. You will be asking yourself questions like "yes I could have sex with her for the third time this week to lower stress and boost affection so I can burn that affect buildup on the Sexy Stream lvl 2 to sync my highest topic bonus with my streaming streak bonus before I need to end it for a rest cycle, but I can only play that card so many times, is day 13 too early?". That is fun, and where your focus lies. On my first playthrough I tried to hit the 1 million target, barely succeeded, but burned out Ame's stats so much I got a short, pretty-much-failed ending.

So on my second playthrough I tinkered around and stumbled on a soft infinity engine, where I could push Ame's stress to the limit in the opening days to get her follower count to the point where she would unlock "follower milestone celebration" streams that I could bank, that did not increase stress but would count towards a streaming-every-day streak bonus, and never take a rest day to get that bonus insanely high. I got several million followers with low stress, low darkness, I thought I did a good job.

And I got a short, pretty-much-failed ending.

Turns out this game has 30 endings, and the lions share of the long, involved ones are from you completely fucking up. You will get a way more interesting ending if you make Ame-chan overdose on LSD and she trips her way into breaking though the illusion of the internet. You want to raise her darkness high as hell for half of them. You can found a cult, you can induce all sorts of violence against her or others, whatever you want. But the game didn't tell me!!

It instead presented me with a solid optimization puzzle, which I spent like 10 hours doing. I shouldn't have bothered! It doesn't really tell this partially for surprise, but if we are being honest its because they expect you to google it, and they expect you to watch streamers unlock 25 of them after you do 5. Which is how modern games are made, but personally I don't love relying on that. I do think games are at their best when they self-teach a player the right way to engage with it.

But I respect that some people would see the discarded scraps of a tryhard faildaughter that is Ame-chan and immediately push her into doing conspiracy theory streams while smoking weed. I am just not someone you can plunk an engine in front of and expect me not to try to tinker with it. This is 50% on me.

Falling Asleep and Waking Up Next To Them!!

•Like have you SEEN his eye bags???

•He can only sleep if he's drunk because of his nightmares, but if you're there it only takes a few drinks and some cuddles to convince him to sleep.

•He likes to listen to your heartbeat! Especially after a nightmare. It comforts him knowing that you're actually there and alive.

•He snores and makes his goofy Murdoc noises in his sleep.

•He tosses and turns a lot so there's a good chance you'll end up with a bruise in the morning.

•Don't tell him though. He'll act like it was your fault but then probably never sleep again since he doesn't ever want to hurt you, especially physically.

•If he wakes up before you he will just stare at you and smile.

•Until he gets bored (or horny), then he tries to wake you up with kisses and his little lack of attention murdoc groans.

•If you have to wake him (or your alarm goes off), he's VERY grumpy.

•"Five more minutes, yeah doll?" "Okay well now I want five extra minutes because you were talking the whole five minutes."

•Never wants to go to sleep, but never wants to wake up.

•When you wake up he ALWAYS smiles, especially if your hair is a mess. He finds it adorable.

•Immediately demands you cook him breakfast (if Russel isn't already cooking).

•Overall he's a 6/10 falling asleep and waking up most days. On a really bad day for him he's usually a 8/10 since he just wants to drink and sleep.

Stuart '2-D' Pot-

•Stays up until he passes out.

•He just doesn't want to sleep.

•When he does fall asleep he's so cute!

•He sleeps with his knees to his chest so it looks like he's in a tiny ball.

•He doesn't move a lot in his sleep but will sometimes say a sentence or two.

•He has the occasional nightmare but they usually aren't too bad.

•Please make him hot chocolate if he has a nightmare he will love you forever.

•Has SO many stuffed animals to sleep with!!!

•If he wakes up in the middle of the night he sneaks to the living room to play his video games.

•He thinks you don't know, but you always do because he doesn't know how to control his volume most times.

•He's always so sleepy because of this and will need to take naps throughout the day (please nap with him).

•When he wakes up the first thing he's doing is waking you up (if you aren't awake already).

•The second thing he's doing is trying to convince you to go on a breakfast date somewhere!! He gets bored when he hasn't gone out in a while.

•If you tell him no, he will immediately give you the puppy eyes. If the answer is still no he'll be upset with you for a solid five minutes.

Russel Hobbs-

•Goes to sleep at exactly 10:30

•He has an entire sleep schedule that he sticks to.

•Encourages you to get a better sleep schedule (we all know you don't have one)

•Sleeps like a rock.

•Once his head hits his pillow he is out and doesn't move until he wakes up.

•Loves to hold you or have you sleep on his chest!

•Always wakes up around 9:00 so he can make you and his band mates breakfast.

•Makes amazing pancakes.

•Will always ask you how you slept at breakfast!

•He is such a sweetheart.

•Overall a 10/10.

Noodle

•Has a decent sleep schedule.

•Usually gets around 5-8 hours of sleep.

•Literally does acrobatics in her sleep.

•Like, will fall asleep with her head on her pillow and wake up with her feet on the pillow and her body hanging halfway off of the bed.

•She's a very heavy sleeper though!

•Rarely has nightmares, but will always comfort you in any way she can if you have a nightmare.

•If you can't sleep she will play her guitar for you.

•She has to have some sort of background noise to fall asleep (something like Youtube or a random movie you both like).

•If you're not kissing her or giving her some sort of affection when you wake up she will be grumpy.

•She loves to sleep in, especially with you!

•If she isn't hungry when Russel is cooking breakfast, she usually eats apple slices with yogurt and sprinkles.

Persona 3 is a weird case study in how having a really good ending can completely make up for other short comings. It’s interesting going back through and comparing/contrasting it to Persona 4 and 5.

Like, for example, I would say Persona 4 has a much stronger overall story compared to 3 despite thinking the ending is much weaker simply because the goal is established almost immediately, you need to catch whoever is throwing people into the tv world. It’s a murder mystery.

Whereas Persona 3 your goals are very vaguely “stop the dark hour” by maybe exploring Tartarus? Or maybe it’s those big shadows that appear every full moon? Who knows, I’m sure we’ll figure out eventually.

Like it’s very much vibe-based story telling in Persona 3 for most of the game and it really only starts to come together by 10/4 when the themes become abundantly clear.

Scout:

are they good with kids?: yes

Do they know what they’re doing?: yes

Scout always wanted a younger sibling. He liked being the baby but never got the opportunity he wanted to be someone’s cooler big brother. He instead used that energy and became people’s “older brother” throughout school and adulthood. He commonly took babysitting jobs and was always the cool one who’d let you have soda and stay up past your bedtime. The only time he’d probably struggle is young children like toddlers and infants, as he’d be worried he’d accidentally drop them or something.

Rating: 8/10 he cool guy

Soldier:

are they good with kids?: questionable

Do they know what they’re doing? No

Soldier is a very enthusiastic caretaker, but that doesn’t mean he’s a good influence LMAO. He will curse and everything until he is reminded that kids are not usually supposed to hear that. He also knows nothing about caring for one, or how to assist if one is distressed. If he was given some serious training he’d be pretty great. without it though he isn’t really the best choice. If he was, however, a supervised playmate, he’d be fine.

Rating 3/10 for wildest playdate

Pyro:

are they good with kids?: yes

Do they know what they’re doing?: yes

Pyro is surprisingly good with kids. He is a great combo of enjoying what they like while also being generally responsible about keeping them safe. Some of the kids may be intimidated by their appearance so that would be a hurdle, but after that is handled it should be mostly smooth sailing. However fire needs to be out of the equation. Pyro would absolutely wanna show the kids since they love it so much and that’s not the best idea.

Rating: 6/10. Great unless fire is involved

Demoman:

Are they good with kids?: yes

Do they know what they’re doing?: mostly.

Demo is a pretty solid caretaker overall. He’s got a fun personality that kids would like, as well as fun stories that’ll keep them entertained. His skills however are mostly short term, as he would want his time back to himself afterwards. To try and be a good influence he would put away the booze but once he’s had his fill of kiddos he’ll wanna tap out. Think of him kinda like the cool uncle who shows up for Christmas with gifts then bounces like an hour later LMAO

Rating: 7/10 he is great until the scrumpy calls

Engineer:

Are they good with kids?: yes

Do they know what they’re doing?: yes

Engineer may be an only child, but he’s had his fair share of cousins, nieces, nephews, etc. his gentler voice makes kids feel really safe around him. He’ll play guitar, show the kids safe things for tinkering, and is great at keeping them happy and healthy. He’s also good with smaller kids too which is a plus. All in all he’s legitimately great. The only reason he isn’t getting a 10 is because he doesn’t have as much experience as he could.

Rating: 9/10 southern hospitality

Heavy:

are they good with kids?: yes

Do they know what they’re doing?: yes

do you want a kid taken care of? He’s your guy. He changed his little sister’s diapers, helped them stay fed, and kept his whole family safe. He very much knows what he’s doing. He’ll play games with them, make sure they’re eating when needed, and comfort them if they need it. That kid is never gonna be safer than with heavy. Plus even the bigger kids can be carried around with him, that is the COOLEST.

Rating: 10/10 he’s perfect

Medic:

Are they good with kids?: no

Does they know what they're doing: mostly

Medic is,,,, interesting. He thinks he’s good with kids, but he more just scares them because he gives off huge uncanny valley vibes. Kids can tell something’s off with him and while he may know what to do in theory, in practice it feels forced and off. Now personality aside he’ll absolutely make sure the kid is safe, well fed, entertained etc. but his personality just screams “you’re vibes are rancid old man.” And thus he is kinda the boogeyman of the mercs.

Rating: 5/10. He’ll work in a pinch but there’s probably better options.

Sniper:

Are they good with kids?: kinda(?)

Do they know what they’re doing?: no

Sniper hasn’t had a lot of practice with kids. He’s an only child and had very few people in his life with kids. He’s got nothing against them, he just has no experience. Give him a kid and he’ll freeze because he doesn’t wanna fuck up. Once he gets to know them he’ll get in the groove and finally loosen up. He’ll make some dumb mistakes, like letting them near dangerous things, or not watching them during times he should, but for someone who has no idea what to do it could be worse.

Rating: 4/10 the kids survived somehow

Spy.

are they good with kids?: weirdly yes

Do they know what they’re doing?: yes

Spy will protest taking care of a kid. He’ll complain, saying things like “they’ll ruin my suit!” Or “I don’t want their dirty hands anywhere near me”. But once he’s accepted his fate he’ll begrudgingly get to work. His personality with them is “I don’t care about you but I actually REALLY do.” He makes sure they eat their veggies, nap if they gotta nap, and takes no sass. He doesn’t deal with foolishness and shuts it down with sass back. When he thinks the kids aren’t paying attention he’s a lot more gentle and caring, like helping them learn to tie their shoelaces petting their hair if they fall asleep on him, or if they’re away at the bathroom for a long time he’ll knock to make sure they’re doing okay. For him it’s weirdly cathartic and guilt-filled. He doesn’t wanna mess up again.

Rating: 8/10. He cares AAA

What a Young Man Should Know, 1933. A checklist for becoming a proper man.

This was published in the March 1933 issue of Harper’s Magazine.

The writer, Robert Littell, details the abilities, skills, accomplishments, and extra-curricular proficiencies that every man should have if they are to become a self-sufficient and well-rounded human being, ready for life, and eventually, marriage and raising their own children. The learning starts from a very young age.

Here is the (short) list:

1. He should know how to swim at least a mile, dive creditably, and not feel panicky under water. He should be able also to revive those less skilful than himself by rolling them on a barrel and pumping their helpless arms.

2. He should be able to drive an automobile well. And he should not be altogether helpless when a car breaks down. He must know how to change a tire and offer some sort of diagnosis when the engine sputters and dies.

3. He ought to know how to clean, load, and shoot a revolver or a rifle.

4. As for self-defense, a man should certainly be able to take care of himself in a scrap. He need not learn jujitsu — old-fashioned boxing will be enough.

5. He ought to know the rudiments of camping, how to build a fire, how to chop wood, how to take a cinder out of his eye, how to deal with a severed artery, how to doctor himself for ordinary ailments.

6. He should also be able to take care of other people in emergencies, to apply first aid, set a broken bone, revive a drunk or a victim of gas, deal with a fainting fit, administer the right emetic or antidote for a case of poisoning.

7. And he should be able to feed himself, to cook, not only because some day he may need to, but because cooking is one of the fine arts, and a source of infinite pleasure. He should be able to scramble eggs, brew coffee, broil a steak, dress a salad, carve a chicken, and produce, on occasion, one first-class dish, such as onion soup. The more he can do, in these days of the delicatessen store and the kitchenette, the better. It is not effeminate, it is not beyond him, and the best chefs are all men.

8. He should know how to use paint brushes, a saw, a hammer, and other common tools.

9. He should also have a beautiful and distinguished handwriting. But the bulk of his writing, particularly if he is a professional man who has much of it to do, should be done on a typewriter, capable of turning out three thousand words an hour.

10. He should play one outdoor game well, and have a workable smattering of several more. An American who cannot throw and catch a ball seems pathetic and grotesque.

11. The bicycle has gone, yet every young man should know how to ride one.

12. He should also be able to skate, sail a boat, and handle a canoe passably.

13. Fishing is a specialty, like chess.

14. Walking is a noble but neglected sport. Americans “hike” once in a long while but seldom walk.

15. He should know a great deal about animals and how to take care of them.

16. He should know how to ride a horse.

17. He should learn how to stay in a saddle with pleasure to himself and a minimum of annoyance to his mount.

18. He should learn how to dance.

19. He should know to play at least one card game.

20. He must have knowledge of how to tip naturally, justly, without fear and without reproach.

21. On the matter of alcohol, he should learn his capacity and stick within its limits; he should know something about the different kinds of drink, and which drinks produce chaos within him when mixed.

22. Where s:x is concerned, nature clearly intended us to make many mistakes in her hope that some of them would be productive.

23. He should know the rudiments of gambling. But gambling might be placed on the same plane as drink — the less use one has for it the better.

24. Higher than almost any other accomplishment on the list is knowing music. There is no reason why any young man who is not absolutely tone-deaf should not learn how to play one musical instrument well enough for it to be a self-resource and a tolerable pleasure to others.

25. A civilized man should know how to read. The ability to read, or rather the habit of reading, is very rare even among intelligent people, and has to be taught and kept up if it is not to become rusty.

26. He should have knowledge of at least one foreign language. French or German preferably both. German children learn an amazingly good brand of English without ever crossing their borders. Why can’t we? For one thing, we don’t really want to. Yet we should. An American who knows only English is blind in one eye.

27. He should know to travel well, efficiently, without fuss or complaint.

28. A young man should be able to express himself clearly before a crowd of strangers, without shyness, muddle, or a pathetic resort to “so much has been said and well said” or “I did not expect to be called on.”

29. The American adult can get to his feet, propose a toast, introduce a stranger, voice a civic protest, heckle a windbag politician, and give utterance to an unembarrassed thought.

30. A a man should command the elementary tool of written language, and be able to put simple things on paper in clear words.

31. He should have a good workable understanding of the structure of business, investments, and banks.

32. Let every educated man, as a necessary part of his education, be thrown into the muddy stream of American industry and see what it is like to swim alone on daily wages.

33. He should before reaching twenty-two have done something because he wanted to, whether other people wanted him to do it or not.

34. He should not acquire property unless he needs it. Insensitiveness to his personal property, unless of course it is extraordinarily beautiful, is a desirable skill for any man to have; It must be learned and worked at.

35. Unusual though this young man may be, he should not seem so. Is not a parent’s basic ambition for his child that he be very different from other people, yet manage to seem almost exactly like them?

Just got the Silksong Delayed News. While it is a bummer that it's delayed I'm happy we actually got some news ! I think it'll probably still be out this year, but in the meantime here's a list of other games to play while we wait for Silksong!

Dead Cells. Roguelike, Accessibility settings, Lots of fun DLC content. 8/10 recommendation. Updates somewhat frequently.

Have A Nice Death. Roguelike, fluid animations, fun characters. 6/10 recommendation. Takes a bit to get used to, be sure to take frequent breaks.

Rainworld. Survival Exploration. Wonderful story, fun game play, fluid movement and animation. DLC and accessibility features (DLC is coming in June for Console Players). 8/10 recommendation. Very friendly community

Ender Lilies. Metriodvania. Beautiful artstyle and wonderful story. Excellent map design and music, very fun bossfights. 7/10 recommendation. Needs more love

Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Metriodvania. Pretty style, fluid animations and fun boss fights. 5/10 recommendation. Feels like they were trying to do to much at once, and when you know what you're doing it's a very short game.

Cuphead. I.. don't know what genre it is. But it's very good. Hand drawn animation, creative and challenging fights, and plenty of achievements. DLC is highly recommended. 8/10 recommendation. Take frequent breaks if frustrated.

Jake was a borrower, a tiny person, just around 4 inches tall. He was one of thoese living outdoors, surviving on his own. He was just a teenager, hardly ever 18, yet doing great on his own. Or so he though. In short terms he was very lonely and got a chance from life - he found an herb that would make him grow to human size for a few hours, length depending on the amount consumed. That's how he meet Lucas. Lucas was a human boy, same age as him. They became friends very fast and after 4 months Jake was spending most of his days at Lucas's house. Of course his best friend didn't know his secret as borrowers that were found were kept captive as pets and mainly abused or killed. He knew he could trust his Lucas, they were like brothers even if they didn't know echother for long, but it was still terrifying to reavel the truth. But he loved his best friend, trusted him and wanted to be honest. That's why he decided to reveal who he really was..

Jake and Lucas were playing video games as usual.

"No!" yelled Lucas as he lost again "I'm the one who though you how to play and now you're beating me every time. It's not fair!"

"I'm just amazing" Jake smiled, trying not to burst out laughing at his friend's frustration.

"Yeah right" Lucas rolled his eyes "shall i get my revange?"

"well, maybe later actually. I'd like to talk about.. something..." Jake sat up and took a deep breath.

"What? Why so serious all of sudden?" Lucas sat up with a worried expression. He didn't like when Jake acted like that. Sure, the boy was tense most of the time as he seem scared of like- everything- but Lucas got really worried seeing Jake looking like there was something really bad going on.

"It's just.." Jake tried his best to stay calm. Really. He trusted his best friend and loved him so much, but the though of reaveling all that was really scary nonetheless. "What do you think about borrowers?"

"Borrowers? Oh- you mean tinies." Lucas looked at him confused for a moment. Jake nodded. "Is it all about? Really you're stressed up talking about some kind of pets? Bro you scared me" the boy signed.

"Pets..?" Jake whispered. Lucas looked at him strangely. Oh God talking about that was a mistake - the borrower though.

"Well i mean.. they're pretty cool I guess. I've heard they're quite intelligent pets, but like… they're really fragile. I wouldn't buy a pet when I couldn't play with it. Like fine, it's only 20 bucks so after I play around with it I could just buy another one but I just don't like the idea. They seem weird. Like, don't get me wrong, they can be fun, one of my classmates took his tiny with him to class and we played with the thing and it was fun but you know, they're loud, they make noises scream-a-like and we hardly did anything and it died. It sucked, we had to give the guy 5 bucks eatch for like 10 minutes of little fun. I mean, it's cool, but when they die, it can be a mess, one of my buddies' shirt got ruined by its blood. As pets, i don't really like them. But i heard they make meals of them! There's even a restaurant near my school where you can eat them alive! I think that would be so cool, i don't really like raw meat but that sounds really fun to do with friends. Like, imagine that, feeling like a real predator hunting the thing and having it moving in your mouth and maybe even stomache if you don't chew on it. I'm really keen on that but never any of my friends wants to go and-"

"Stop" Jake mumbled through his tears. "Please." He was shaking like a leaf. He trusted Lucas - he believed he would never hurt anyone. He thought of him as his best friend, but he was just a cold-blooded murderer. A monster. Jake stood up. He had to get out before he breaks down. Their friendship has just come to an end.

"Bro, what's wrong with you?" Lucas asked, worried.

"You're a monster."

"What..?" Lukas panicked. "Come on bro, what's your problem?" But Jake didn't answer. He grabbed his things and left the room, heading for the front door. Luke ran after him.

"Jake, what the hell is up with you?!"

"I don't want to see you ever again," he finally replied, tears streaming down his face. Lucas looked at him heart broken.

"Jake... please, what happened? We're best friends," he pleaded, stepping closer, but Jake just stepped away. He was scared. Terribly scared. He didn't know who was standing in front of him. He didn't know Lucas anymore. It wasn't the cute, kind boy who found him, or the boy who gave him the love and affection that made him feel like he belonged somewhere, that he had a family. It wasn't him. He was a cold-blooded monster, a killer, someone who would hurt him if he saw him in his true form.

"Trusting you was a mistake" he said in a shaky voice, letting more tears roll down his face. He turned to leave, but Lucas grabbed his arm, stopping him.

"Jake, please calm down. Talk to me" Jake looked at Lucas. The human looked very worried and tears were forming in his eyes. Jake couldn't take it anymore and started sobbing loudly. Lucas didn't understand what was happening but nothing on earth could take his best friend, no, brother away from him. They were too close to never speak to echother again. Lucas spread his arms out offering a hug.

"Is touch okay?" He asked politely, because surely they both needed a hug.

"No.. not now" He wanted to say - no, never - but he couldn't bring himself to.

"It's okay" the other boy said, looking a little sad. "Let's talk about it all"

"NO! We can't- I-You- I have to-" Jake panicked, not wanting to continue this nonsense. It was wrong all this time. It was wrong to even turn into a human-a-like size, to speak to a human, to trust a human. He regretted his decisions. However, he couldn't help feeling terrible, a sense of betrayal, he loved Lucas and he turned out to be a completely different person than he had imagined. Jake loved someone who didn't exist. He liked the imaginary version of Lucas.

"Jake, please," Lucas whispered. Jake could tell that all Lucas felt right now was confusion, fear, pity, and pain. He didn't like that expression.

"I'd like to leave now" he said coldly, wiping his tears.

"Jake please, what the hell is wrong? Can we forget- I mean, let's just chill"

The borrower wanted to forget. He did. He also wanted to answer. But he felt a feeling that made him stop in his trucks. He only took a bit of the special herb because he wanted to reveal who he really was. Shit. He realised he could become tiny any moment now. He paled. Oh hell, not here, not now, anywhere but here. He was next to the person who would kill him if that happened. He wanted to run, to hide, to do anything, but he couldn't. Fear freezed him.

"Jake, I'm begging you, we need to explain this calmly.." Lucas took a deep breath to calm himself down. Meanwhile, Jake had a panic attack. He was about to shrink. He didn't know if he would change if he did twitch. He couldn't even breathe, Lucas noticed.

"What's happening?" he asked timidly and gently, placing his hand on his friend's shoulder. Jake panicked and immediately pushed Lukas away with all his might, taking a few steps back himself. He panicked when he realized he was shrinking. He narrowed his eyes tightly and after a moment he felt that the pain and tension that bound him disappear. Usually it was a pleasant feeling, but not this time. Now he was afraid to open his eyes. He was scared to say at last, he was terrified. As soon as he heard a gasp that was way too loud, he realized it had happened. He shrunk before Lucas's eyes. He opened his eyes uncertainly and looked up. Too high. Lucas was too high up. It was hard for Jake to breathe, and his body began to tremble. Lucas stood there, being gigantic, staring down at him with wide eyes. Another tear rolled down Jake's cheek.

Lucas smiled.
