DuPont School for Monstrous Youths- Words (and Gestures) to Avoid
There are certain terms that certain species of monster take offense to, and ones that are sensitive and for particular use. I’ll also include some actions that are offensive. Here’s a list that should be helpful! @artzychic27 @imsparky2002
Voodoo dolls generally don’t respond well to being called ‘toys’ or ‘stuffies’. It makes them feel like they’re being treated as less than people.
“Boo!” is a polite greeting only when exchanged between all the different species of ghosts. Coming from other monsters, it’s…cringe.
Flower meanings take a great deal of importance to plant monsters, and certain ones should only be used as a nickname in certain circumstances. For example, ‘daisy’ is a term usually reserved for parent to child, and calling someone ‘my rose’ , the flower of love, should only be used by romantic partners.
It’s also disrespectful to call them ‘weeds’, not because it’s belittling, but because it’s dismissive of weeds, which are plants too.
Any name that implicates a zombie is dumb or slow-witted should be avoided. That’s a derogatory and untrue stereotype.
Yeti is the proper name for the species, ‘Abominable’ is a very hurtful term. The same goes for ‘Bigfoot’ with Sasquatches, it’s a nasty nickname humans gave them.
Werewolves may act like big dogs but that doesn’t make it okay to call them ‘mutt’, ‘mongrel’, ‘fleabag’, etc.
Never. Ever. EVER. Refer to any werebeast as a ‘furry’ if you value your life.
Insectoid and arachnid monsters take great issue with being called ‘pests’.
Most demons at the school don’t like being referred to as ‘hellspawn’, it’s a reminder of the life they managed to escape.
“Fishface” should generally be avoided with any monster species native to the water. Also, NEVER offer them seafood.
Derogatory names based on a vampire’s diet such as ‘leech’ or ‘bloodsucker’ are discouraged.
Shrek references of any sort should be avoided with ogres. It’s just old and annoying at this point.
Faeries are hot-blooded so it’s best to avoid calling them things like ‘pixie’ or especially ‘Tinker Bell’. (They don’t particularly have anything against her, it’s just really irritating to lump all fairies under one name.)
Never ask a gargoyle “How’s Quasimodo?”. That movie had inaccurate and stereotypical depictions of gargoyles.
Don’t ask an eastern dragon about wings and breathing fire. It’s culturally insensitive.
Requesting a phantom to sing an opera piece isn’t a funny joke, it’s rude and ignorant.
Stereotypical witch cackles are offensive to actual witches, who aren’t evil.
If you are not someone a werewolf or werecat knows and trusts, DON’T try to pet them!
It’s incredibly disrespectful to act as if you can’t see a ghost when they’re in the room with you.
It’s also unacceptable to imply that robots are heartless and have no emotions. They care like anyone else.
Minotaurs become very angry when you try to provoke them as a matador would, and they WILL charge at you.
Don’t stick your hand into a skeleton. Their bodies and personal space are as important as anyone else’s.
Don’t ask a centaur for a ride, wait until it’s offered.
Be VERY mindful when speaking to an extraterrestrial. You never know what might be offensive.
Leave your thoughts in the comments and reblogs!

Could you possibly do one where Mari/Mari and marine is/are the daughter/son of the joker?
I actually planned quite a lot for this after you asked but could never get my thoughts to make something comprehensive so I give up here's what I got!:
-Twins are Joker and Harleys kids born before the two split up(and so help me they will split up this story needs gay aunt Ivy)
-As you might know, these two clowns have another kid; Lucy. Harley left Lucy with her sister when she was born. In canon, she thinks Harley is her aunt but I would say in this fic she learned the truth when the twins were also dropped off.
-So the twins grew up in Gotham with their aunt and big sister knowing full well who their parents are; as such they make the responsible choice to suppress every part of themselves that resembles them and constantly dye their hair in an effort to avoid looking like them. You know healthy coping mechanisms. -
-Naturally, Marinette has brown hair with blue eyes and Marion blonde with brown eyes.
-Their personalities are a bit different from Mismatch.
-Marion is still a trickster and a trouble maker but this time around has Marinette fully involved and responsible for his shenanigans. He has a bit of a habit of talking to himself(or singing random phrases), sometimes in the third person; he hates when he does, so Marinette always tells him off. He’s always gets the impulse of dying his hair outlandish colors and will vehemently deny his favorite color is green.
- Marinette is crafty, both figuratively and literally. She’s smart, her mother is a doctor after all she can be manipulative to people that arent her(close) family to protect the ones she cares about. She has a deep-seated fear of becoming a trophy, an object to be put on display like her mother and so dresses the opposite and pushes away her love for fashion.
-They will always call each other Mari but if someone else tries they both answer its a nickname they strictly use for each other.
-In a world where Gotham exists it makes absolutely no sense that Gabriel wouldn't start his reign as Hawkmoth in Gotham(the place with the most negative emotions like geez) so that works out perfectly for the twins becoming heroes(Adrien can move to Gotham or be left in Paris to be kept safe your choice)
-Instead of the twins proving themselves by helping an old man up off the street they go a step further is beating up the thugs that try to rob him(all Fu’s set up of course). When they come home to find two mysterious boxes on their beds they make the only rational conclusion children of the joker would; it’s a bomb!
-Not wanting to get the police involved for obvious reasons they find the security footage(which gets the police involved in a different way) and start tracking down fu to see why he’s trying to kill him.
-And as you may recall at this point in canon Ladybug and Chat Noir are defeating an Akuma, well they're not here they’re off to beat up an old man so thats Batman’s job for the time being.
-The twins get caught up in the fight as civilians and are saved by Batman who immediately recognizes them(you don't think Batman has case files on all of Jokers hellspawn?) so that’s gonna be a problem later but never mind that for now~
-The twins track down Fu, who is wondering why they aren’t out fighting the Akuma. Long story short Fu comes back to the house with them and proves they aren't bombs giving them the miraculous.
-I’m a bit indecisive on the names. I thought Marinette would be Red Bug and Marion Black Cat(yes I know that names already taken I don’t care). But I thought Crimson Bug would work better because then their names would start with the same letters. Then I wanted alliteration like Black Bug and Crimson Cat but that obviously doesn't make any sense since Chats color is green not red-- then I realized it would be completely in character for them to call themselves that confusing everyone in the process so no one quite sure whos name is who(if you wanna write it go with whatever I just thought it could be funny)
-As for costumes Marinette's probably wouldn't be skin tight because deep down she really doesn't want to look like that but more practical armor or less form-fitting at least. Marion's hair turns green when he transforms something he freaks out about and Marinette's turns red(glowing or not either would look cool)
-So anyway they go off to defeat the akuma blah blah blah Batman seeing these two young untrained superheroes can only think of one thing: I have to adopt them. So that’s gonna be fun!
-Anyway they go back home trying to be sneaky and immediately get caught by Lucy: ”Don’t tell Aunty!”-- ”Oh I already know” (her names Delia by the way)
- So now the twins get a support system and a family that will look out for them unbelievable right? This support system immediately threatens Fu making sure he actually trains them and doesn't just set them loose on Gotham.
Anyway that's the end of my semi-cohesive plan and here's a vague outline for the fic:
1. Becoming ladybug and chat noir setting up adoption, and school(Bruce invites them to Gotham academy to keep an eye on the jokers children)
2. First day at school setting up Artemis(and by extension young justice), and own passions, Adrien is also at this school now so Marinette falls, Jason finds out falling in love with Marion
3. Becoming friends with Artemis, convinces them to give their passions a try, Marion runs from hood, some let me adopt you stuff also Jason's spite for Cat Noir
4. Skip a bit of time a few months or so, young justice need help Artemis suggest mari and mari, Marinette has a smackdown with batman about their heritage, at odds with young justice Artemis comes to their defense. Young Justice have an ‘oh’ realization on the job when Marion sings a lullaby to a scared child, now the young justice form the mari and mari protection squad
5. Doing ladybug and cat stuff batman approaches them again this time luring them into adoption with a partnership on finding hawkmoth, Red Hood and cat fight. Marion comes back all huffy and there's a scene with Lucy this time comforting them, Marion goes out to get air runs into hood marion bristles stirring Jason to meet him as a civilian, class come to visit, at odds with lila
6. Doing well at school even made a few friends when the Paris class come to visit completely under lila’s control, lila tries to slander the twins for not worshiping her only to out herself when she tells everyone they laughed at her(the twins never laugh), Jason also drops by further discrediting her, lila tries to throw their heritage in their face but they get support openly working with heroes as civilians, this little section ends quite happily with them being sort of accepted at school and batman tolerating their existence for not attacking the person who tried to make their life miserable
7. Time skip few years out of high school now, ladybug and cat are working well with gothams vigilantes widely considered part of the batfam even if no one knows each other's identities. As mari and mari they are doing good work mainly outside of gotham. Marinette is starting a fashion boutique with a little financial help from Wayne enterprises she also does costume design for heroes and villains, villains mainly because she can't stand their current outfits. Marion quite likes his music but isn't sure how he will feel in the public eye is great friends with Jason and the skip picks up with them officially starting to go out identities unknown. They are still hesitant about their identities in civilian life Marinette starting her business under a false name and Marion cant start his because of his heritage. Jason officially has to admit they are going out to the family is met with grilling by aunt and sister, joy by harley once she tries giving them sex advice they leave, his brothers tease and both are tense about Bruces reaction but he begrudgingly accepts. Are out as ladybug and Cat still snippy with hood but it’s not as bad they are closing in on hawkmoth. Go to hang out with young justice as well they aren't well-liked in Gotham but they’re fine with that(not really)
8. NOW things can go to shit joker finally has enough of them deciding to get a hold of them but I think it should be as ladybug and chat revealing their identities to the world. The twins are terrified rightfully so. Get saved now it’s weird between hood and marion, marion feeling betrayed Jason knew who he was and knew who his father was but still decided to date him and he just can't understand why. Adrien was so scared for Marinette and now they both have to work out why. Gotham is at odds the heroes they admire are born from a villain they fear. Bats are a bit weird feeling like they were tricked while also kind of acknowledging the twins are good people
9. Harassed in their everyday life now the twins go to young justice where they get met with awe for being established independent heros, bats there are acting weird but the twins say something to shift perspective leaving to let them mull on it. Jason tries to apologise saying he doesn't see Marion like that blah blah Marion has a breakdown asking how he can be anything but a villain. Marinette's having whiplash going from loved to hated and still dealing with the trauma of seeing her father. They snap. In public a big ol scene and they get akumatised everyone sees it, it’s on tv. Hawkmoth comes out to get their miraculous the batfam can’t beat him. He’s monolouging probing at their deepest fears when they snap back to reality realizing none of it’s true every part of them has worked to be good people and they are they don't hand over their miraculous beating the akumatizaton and beating hawkmoth while akumatised.
10. They are released from the hospital a few days later, getting hesitant recognition on the streets. It's not thunderous applause but it is something. Their family comes to pick them up, Adrien is crying to Marinette about not scaring him like that(her family took him in when Gabriel was revealed). Marion gets picked up by Jason they patch things over. They get accepted into the batfam and work as ladybug and cat for everything. Marion decides to start playing music and Marinette reveals her face to her fashion brand.

WS Chapter 48- Spy
Previous Chapter
Masterpost
Oh dear oh dear Ecto found herself in some trouble now, hasn’t she? Whatever will happen to her? How will her friends help her escape? How will Avon manage to wake up Red? This chapter is both funny and heartwarming, even just writing it!
Red belongs to @theguardiansofredland
Ecto belong to @cooler-cactus-block
Selene belongs to @to-dem-stars
Tumblr media
Warning: Lots of foul language. Selene has quite the tongue.
“Wake the fuck up!” Selene practically drops Red into the nearby pond, trying to get the sleeping kipling to wake up. But if she knows one thing about her lover, it’s that Red sleeps like the dead.
Selene gets a better response from Avon. Just one snap of a stick and she’s on her feet, hand already on her weapon. She rubs the sleep from her eyes, peering at Selene. “What are you- how’d you-”
“Help me wake my sweetheart up. I have some very important shit to tell you.” Selene nods to Red, now asleep and underwater. Her voice drips a sickly sweet tone, letting Avon know now is not the time to mess with the sorceress. Not even the cold was able to get a rise from Red.
“You get up Ecto then.” Avon groans, pulling off her boots and wading into the water.
“That’s part of ‘important shit’.” Avon looks over at Selene, unmoving with her hands clasped behind her back. The two both look across the dying fire, grass still parted where Avon last saw Ecto lay down. Empty of the desert buffoon. Avon hurries, pulling Red up to the shallows and trying to wake her up. But the smallest wanderer is a deep sleeper, practically dead to the world until her body deems it morning.
“How do you wake him up?” Avon questions. “I’ve never had to deal with this- he’s awake by the time we’re moving on.”
Selene taps her finger on her chin, staring at Red. She only knows of two ways Red will wake up. Either when morning comes and the day wakes him, or… “Punch me.”
“What?” Avon’s face contorts with confusion, and a little bit of concern. How is attacking Selene going to help?
“Punch me in the face, dipshit!” Selene growls. She doesn’t have to wait long for Avon to respond. One minute she’s on her feet, the next her body and cape are sprawled in the grass, ears poking into the dirt.
And from behind Avon, Red’s sputtering awake. Splashing to his feet. “I sense bullshit!”
Selene rubs her jaw, a coy grin on her face as Red stumbles to her side. Avon isn’t really sure what she just witnessed- she just knows that it worked and Red is awake. “Selene, what did you come to tell us? Where’s Ecto?”
Red turns away from easing the pain of his girlfriend’s jaw, following the same path of confusion and realization when he sees Ecto’s spot empty. His voice comes out soft and broken. “Ecto?”
“I was in the nether, gathering information. I know where Ecto is.” Selene stands, watching Avon and Red’s faces process the information they were given. Piece together what she means.
“Ecto went to the nether?” Avon questions. She knew Ecto was impulsive, but not this impulsive.
“Ecto left us?” Red whimpers, crawling to the other side of the fire. Why’d she leave them? Does she not like hanging out? Or maybe...maybe it’s because of the arguments they were in. Because Red sided with Avon. She should’ve been smarter, tried to compromise. And now...Ecto left.
“Not only is she in the nether, but she’s been caught by the hellspawn army.” Selene rubs her neck, dumping out the empty potion bottles for the others to see. Invisibility potions, fire resistance, anything she needed to stay unseen. She felt like a ninja, or a spy. It was fun, until the stakes grew heavier.
“Army?” Avon catches on quick. “There’s more than those three?”
“Lots more. All with more weapons and training than just defending their strongholds and bastions. And a lot of obsidian. They’re preparing for an invasion.” Selene’s mood grows dark, shadows falling across her face as the sun becomes engulfed in clouds. “I lurked along corridors and training grounds...I watched as they trained with flaming blades and cut down forests that dared grow in their realm. Anything that wasn’t what they deemed normal, what they deemed okay was put to ruin.”
“Ecto…” Red’s voice stumbles to say her friend’s name. “Is Ecto okay?”
Selene sighs. “She’s alive, last I saw. I came here as soon as possible, to warn you.” Selene turns to Avon, waving her hand to catch the far off stare that the dragonheart has. “I saw the egg, as well. I don’t know what they plan to do with it, but it’s still unharmed.”
Avon stands, and Red notices the way her legs shake, the defensive fold of her friend’s wings. “We have to get Ecto back.”
“But Avon...you’re terrified of the nether.” Red points out. Even just standing here, Avon struggles to maintain the calm, collected, stoic nature she always exudes. Even the risk of losing Jeane’s only child wasn’t enough to get her to consider entering the hell dimension.
“I’m more terrified of losing our friend.” Avon whispers. She doesn’t like the nether. It’s hot, and one wrong step can dump an unsuspecting traveler into a sea of lava. Sand clings to the body, clings to the soul. Dragging them down and sapping away at their strength and resolve. Distant screams and howls of monsters that call this hell home are the only commentators to the red landscape. The feeling of being watched lingers no matter where one goes. For Avon, she felt trapped. The nether was roofed, a massive cavern of red soil, only illuminated by fire and a few patches of glowing stone. It was worse than any cave, because at least caves had an entrance, and she knew when she was underground. The nether has no way in, no way out unless with a portal, and at some points is large enough to be tricked into thinking it’s the open air. But it’s all a trick.
“We aren’t the wanderers without all three of us.” Red adds, remembering the name the Hermits called them.
“And that’s why they fear you three.” Selene sees that she’s caught the other two’s attention. “I heard them whispering. You are the only three willing to work together. Three completely different people, three completely different worlds. It’s dangerous. Too dangerous. You threaten to keep the balance they want to throw off.”
Avon and Red look at each other, and the space left between them. Where Ecto should be. They didn’t mean to do any of this, get caught up in this massive plot. It could easily have been any other person that resides in their expansive world. It’s all down to sheer chance, and luck. And being open to one another. “We’re getting Ecto back.”
“Are you two sure you can barge in and save Ecto?” Selene tilts her head, long black locks falling over her elongated ears. “There’s so many hellspawns, and just you two. And me.”
“This won’t be fighting.” Avon declares, much to Red’s relief. He was willing to do anything for Ecto, but he’s still no warrior. “We’ll have to be smart, playing to our strengths and their weaknesses.”
“I can brew some potions for you two. I also may have convinced much of the army that the fortress is haunted.” Selene’s smile turns sly, chin turning up with pride. “I’m sure we can use that to our advantage.”
“If I fly low, they won’t be able to spot me as much going under their bridges.” Avon flourishes her trident. “And Red, you’re small enough to slip by nearly undetected, get into places no one else could.”
“Like spies.” Selene points out. “This isn’t about dealing the most damage, about fighting. It’s about hitting them where it hurts most.”
“It’s about getting Ecto back.” Avon notices the purple haze, light bouncing off the trees. She follows the illumination, seeing the black frame and swirling rift between the trees.
“And the egg, if we can as well.” Red adds, reaching up and placing a hand on Avon’s shoulder. The three stand in front of the portal, feeling the electrified air around them. Watching purple embers spark off the tear between dimensions, wondering what is happening to Ecto on the other side. Is she hurt? Scared? What possessed her to go in alone? Was she hoping it was only the three? Was she looking for more information?
Or was Ecto tired of being held back by the other wanderers? Was it one too many jokes too far, one too many fights? Perhaps...perhaps Ecto didn’t really want to be their friend, but was rather dragged into this. Was only along for the ride because she couldn’t say no. She didn’t like the others, she just wanted to be left alone. Without the other two pestering her.
No matter what, Avon and Red weren’t leaving Ecto behind. No matter who messed with their friend, they’d stand up for her. Be at her side, even if she didn’t want them. They were willing to face their fears, stand up to their enemies for her.
Selene steps through first. Calm and collected, even in the other dimension. Red climbs in next, holding her breath and stumbling into the portal. From her backpack, the gilded totem’s eyes glint it’s emerald gems, catching the fiery illumination from the other side before disappearing within. Avon hesitates, alone at the portal’s cusp. At the mouth to hell. But she steels herself to the fear, reminding herself that she’s a protector. Especially to her friends, the people she loves and cares about. She would face any fear, any enemy for them.
The final wanderer steps through the portal.

Shop
‘A cup of tea? I promise, it isn’t poisoned.’ Felicia chuckled to herself as if she had said something tremendously funny. Antonio didn’t see the joke.
She poured his cup and then her own, before leaning back in her seat and waiting expectantly, with her fiendish smile half hidden by her cup.
He didn’t touch the tea.
Instead he kept staring, trying to piece together the words in his head. He needed to take the time to formulate his argument this time. He couldn’t let her win by leaving holes or get hasty and desperate like usual.
‘Cat’s got your tongue?’ Felicia asked after several minutes that passed far too quickly for Antonio.
He shook his head. Now. He had to say something now. He had to declare his intentions to her now.
‘I won’t… I can’t…. You… The shop…’
Damn. That wasn’t how the words were supposed to come out!
Felicia put her tea down and her smile brightened.
‘Ah yes, that shop of yours!’ She exclaimed.
‘How is that doing? Got much business?’ She asked innocently, tilting her head to one side, opening the nape of her neck. If he were a wolf, he’d lunge and bite. Chomp down until that snake stopped twitching. He grinded his teeth.
‘You know, you should reconsider my offer. It’s more than generous.’
Yeah right you damned bitch. You demonic hellspawn. You chupacabra.
‘Of course, there is still the case with those steps of yours… My shoulder still aches terribly because of that fall.’
She tapped on her left shoulder and pouted. If only he’d never let her enter his shop, not even to tell her he wouldn’t sell. She could have never staged that fall and have a legal case that both of them knew would ruin him. She was ruining him anyway, by turning everything around his shop into a worksite. No customers walked down that road with all the noise and the terrible smell of tar in the air.
Antonio thought bitterly of her lawyer’s letter sitting beneath the register in the shop. If it went through…. If she brought it to court…. He wouldn’t get a choice. They would make him sell the shop in compensation. For a much lower price than she was offering now. But he had his pride, dammit!
And that shop… It wasn’t just his livelihood. There were so many memories, including those of his late wife and their unborn child. Those of his nephew running around as a child, an those of himself, running around his grandfather’s shop. The memories of him taking it over when he came of age, the happiness that came with his grandfather’s lessons.
‘I… I have insurance,’ he pressed out.
Felicia smiled the toothy smile of a shark.
‘I’m sure you do. It is the law after all. But you should really have put up a sign to warn people of that step. And this injury impacts my life to a great deal. I can barely even cook, nevermind drive or work.
Pah, as if the muddemon had to do any of those things. Even if it were true, she had people to do all these things for her. Antonio was fairly certain she had never once in her life even held a ladle.
‘But nevermind my shoulder,’ Felicia continued gently. ‘I would like to buy your premises. I will ask this for the last time, and I expect a straightforward answer from you.’
In her eyes, Antonio saw mirrored all she had done: From threats, intimidation, to driving the other gents in the area out of business. She was no stranger to seduction either, that succubus. He thought of all the families that had lost memories to her, all the people who had given up their dreams in face of her adversary.
He stood up and faced her squarely.
‘I will not sell. I will never sell. I have told you before, I tell you now. The shop is mine.’
