not sure if you’ve answered on this in the past, but do you have any thoughts regarding steven’s future/development/what he does following him leaving at the end of steven universe future? i find your analysis posts about steven incredibly interesting. sorry if somebody’s asked you this question already!

It hasn't been asked before! A question of this nature is going to really involve less analysis and more just... speculation/ headcanon, but thats fine too! I'm down to indulge lol

I think the thing that would near for sure happen post-future at some point is Steven moving into his own house or apt. His road trip basically intends as much (he states the goal is to try to find a place to settle down), and furthermore I think a place of his own is something Steven needs even more than distance from his family/ gem stuff. The one thing Steven really lacked growing up was any sense of privacy, and a consistently safe home environment. It would do wonders for his mental health to have a home that he has complete control over, that is unlikely to be in any immediate danger of being wrecked.

After that is more nebulous, as throughout most of the series all of Steven's ambition hinged on gem stuff, and then once he started actually doing gem stuff, it took over his life. It's hard to say what actually interests him outside of that. Quite possibly, he doesn't even know. I can say with near certainty that I think he would avoid any career to do with music (he likes making it but I think it would be too close to his dad's rockstar lifestyle), and he would probably avoid stuff with plants too (both due to risk of bringing them to life, and because plant care was one of Rose's main hobbies). However he is a creative soul at his core, so he might end up pouring himself into other hobbies that eventually become careers. I can see him doing something like pottery or glassblowing, something that can't really be shortcut by his powers and requires a sort of controlled strength. I think it would be therapeutic to him. I can also see him doing a lot of volunteer work in his spare time; I don't think he'll ever fully rid himself of the desire to help people, but if he doesn't have to become personally involved in someone's mental health, it could be healthier output for that "need to be needed."

Despite separating himself from it for his own mental health, I'm pretty sure he would still intermittently get re-involved with little homeschool and gem politics and whatnot. I think after some time healing he would find that he missed aspects of it, and also there's likely the occasional thing that require "pink diamond's" attention no matter what (unfortunately). But thats why the physical separation is important. At the end of the day, he's not the one soley responsible for these things, and he isn't even the primary person responsible. He can just be the guy they call in once in a while. Which, I think over time, would also help assuage any potential guilt he would feel over "dropping responsibilities." He may have left, but he isn't running away from his problems like Rose. He's simply taking an equal and fair part of the work that must be done.

Also, I didn't know where to fit this, but I think the one thing Steven will never do in the future is have children. And not just because of the passing of the gem issue, but also because I think he would genuinely not feel right about doing so. He likes kids and probably ends up adoptive-uncle-ing a few kids in whatever neighborhood he lives in, but I dont think he would ever actually raise kids of his own. This is just pure headcanon tho lol.

2/6 ketamine infusions down!

today i had about twice as much as yesterday, which is considered a full therapeutic dose now. it was definitely way more intense lol. i was seeing things for sure, but they weren’t fully distinct. i saw a lot of roads, but it was more like the abstract idea of a road and i could tell what it was partly visually and partly thru just knowing that it was a road, kinda like how you just know some things in dreams.

i connected with that mother figure again. yesterday it felt like she was standing just behind me, and today it felt like she was all around me, not tangible but still kinda enveloping me. it was incredibly comforting and i just felt this overwhelming sense of love from her. as opposed to yesterday when i was more or less thinking in words, today it was more just feeling. there is actually only one phrase from the trip that i can remember concretely. it was more just like i was being shown how to be loved, and learning that i am loved in a cosmic sense, which also translates to being lovable on earth, a theme that carried over from yesterday. i also feel like i was taught a lesson about just “being” in the present moment without having to worry about either the past or the future.

it was actually pretty interesting, i came out of it faster today than i did yesterday, despite the higher dose. as i started coming back i remember wanting to go faster, wanting to be back in the real world. after they disconnected my iv and helped me shuffle to the bathroom, i just sat with my stepmom holding her hand and closing our eyes in silence, it was so lovely. i was definitely more out of it for longer tho, and pretty quickly i came to bed for a massive nap lol, even longer than yesterday. my brain is definitely doing a lot of work. so yeah, excited for day three tomorrow and definitely grateful for the break over the weekend before i go in for days 4-6 next week. they told me day 3 is when people start noticeably turning a corner, so im really excited to see what changes i notice in myself, while also still continuously reminding myself not to anticipate or hope for too much, just to let it happen how it happens because there’s no way to tell how and how much any individual will react. im very curious to see how much of the placidity ive been feeling will last.

anyway, in case it isn’t obvious lol, im loving this treatment. tripping balls in order to feel cosmically loved and get those dopamine pathways to work better? and i get anti emetics and headache medicine up front so i don’t have any side effects? hell yeah. alright that’s pretty much what i got for today, ill check in tomorrow like this again ✌️

spritezee writes some of the best eridave fics out there. this one in particular is my favorite. its not only a space au but its really a love letter to the scifi genre and you can tell just reading through it that a lot of care went into the worldbuilding. dave and bros relationship is a total mess in a way thats honestly really interesting, and zee always writes a great dynamic for eridan and dave. plus, you HAVE to admit thats a great fucking title

again, always a great eridan and dave dynamic w this author. if it wasnt really clear by the summary, this fic in particular is fucking hilarious and dave and his wandering metaphors are a lot of fun in it.

other than that, tho, all of my recommendations are just going to be more of spritezees fics, so i REALLY recommend that you just save me the time and go check out their stuff yourself. if i ever delve back into the eridave tag ill make sure to let yall know if i find any bangers

Probably got a scholarship to pay it off

Doesn't seem to struggle at all, actually thrives more than anything

Is the student who sits at the front and asks all the questions people are too anxious to ask

Tengen Uzui

He majors in either Music Production or Theatre

Unlike Kyojuro, it isn't for as a sweet reason as his, he simply knows he excels in captivating people and his hearing is a gift and he wants to put it too good use

He's extremely casual addressing his workload but somehow doesn't fall behind

The party animal on campus, who throws the most insane and fun parties for everyone; regardless if he knows them

The student who sits on his phone listening to music midway through the lecture at the back; but seems to understand everything anyway

His grades are nothing to write home about (70% on average), he just wants to pass enough to stay afloat

Obanai Iguro

He'd definitely major in either Zoology or Psychology

When he graduated highschool, you can guarantee he was absolutely lost and didn't have any real ambitions for life

He makes sure to work overtime in class and use his time well, so he has time to hangout with his friends here and there

Glares at any disruptive students during class and is seen as the teachers pet; even tho it's not his intention at all

Despite his shallow reasoning for studying, his grades are pretty impressive (89% on average)

He majors in Sport Science or Engineering

Probably got a lucky break and got a scholarship to pay it all off

Arrives to classes late, but once he walks in he's 100% focussed at the task at hand

Always super duper polite and formal to his professor and brings gifts to show his appreciation at the end of every term

Despises group projects as he finds himself way more reliable, will completely finish projects in one night cause it's eating away at him while he's trying to sleep

Always goes from a run after class and after long periods of sitting down studying; it helps him clear his mind (he dies inside if he sees a cute dog along the way <3)

Sanemi gets scolded for being so cold and rude to his classmates when it comes to group projects, but his intelligence and out of the box thinking is a gift that cannot be denied (85% on average)

Giyu Tomioka

He majors in Literature or Criminology

Giyu finds beauty in looking beyond the surface and looking at the smaller details of the bigger picture; whether that be in criminal evidence or an abstract metaphor or symbolism

She majors in either Nursing or Biology

Unlike any of the other Hashira, she wants to preserve her families history of specializing in medicine; in one fashion or another

Tends to sit at the front of the class to avoid the disruptive students, and takes extensive notes with diagrams

Although, she doesn't get visibly shaken, she's most defiantly stressed; so she's more prone to snapping but she just really needs to finish this assignment and a cup of coffee-

Tries her hardest to find some sort of academic and personal life balance by leaving every Saturday as her hang out night with her friends; so she can breathe and unwind

She's really hard on herself both as a med/bio student but as a person in general so she's not happy when it's "only" a 90% and not 100% (90% average)

Mitsuri Kanroji

She majors in either Graphic Design or Fashion Design

Mitsuri really wants to help people somehow but in the end probably drops out from nursing cause she can't handle the gore; then switches to Graphic/Fashion Design cause it's fun

Has a tendency to fall behind in her studies because she day dreams a lot and gets distracted while studying and completing assignments

Sits in the middle of the room, not at the back but not at the front; takes simple notes and doodles in class

Confides in Shinobu and Obanai for relieving her academic stress, especially around exam season;

Despite the fuss she makes and how many ups and downs she faces she has a pretty solid grade average (76% average)

Like, yeah, it is one of those 'kinda petty gripe' moments I was talking about! People are completely valid to spend their time and effort on what makes them (and often their mutuals and fans) happy! Yet at the same time, I am myself a huge fucking NERD about timeline, concepts, worldbuilding, messages, philosophy, specifics of factions and covenants, systems of 'magic' and science within the lore and all that, and if presented with a choice between the hottest fanfic for my OTP or an oddly detailed fictional research paper on something complex that went within the lore, I'd not even hesitate to pick the latter xd

There ARE many things to think about in BB, yes! My personal favorite to dissect were how Kin works and headanons about Great Ones (ALL of them). I have not found a cool way to put my BB worldbuilding dissections into a fic, tho... :') Me and @val-of-the-north also dream of writing a large prequel of Pthumerians history with what predated dungeons and some known characters. But we are more visual artists than writers. Sigh!

I could offer an advice for the situation when you have a gripe with something that is most popular in a fandom, and wish people did more interesting stuff:

1) Have a tiny group of people who are bitter about the same thing (can also be conveniently put in a Discord chat)! It is extremely therapeutic to have a few friends with whom you can be haters together, so you vent it all out and go to the 'public' fandom all happy and cheerful, not carrying this negativity to the open internet where people that love [a thing] can see it. I mean- I do have a group like this! Our most frequient petty haters sessions are pouting at the fact that this or that character only gets remembered as part of a ship and not as their own person xd Feeling heard in a small group where your words can't hurt anyone, nor anyone will guilt you for being "entitled" is just. good.

2) Create the stuff you would like to see more of (drawings, fanfics, essays, theories, headcanons, memes prompting an idea in a subtle way even), or encourage people to think more about this stuff (prompting discussions, buying art/fic commissions, doing trades (art for fic, for example), catching a person that accepts requests and spending yours on what you'd like to see more of, sending people asks that could trigger to develop something about lore etc). Really mind the latter, though! Like... trust me dude, even if you can't draw or write, nor have enough money for commissions, you can still cause pretty tangible influence on creativity! If you just say right things at the right time to the right people. Heck- I more or less got some skill at inspiring people creatively <:3 Like... I prompt a person to think of this or that theme or character, and before I know it they already developed something because of that discussion? (not tryna boast xd) Or another good example is @heraldofcrow who mastered the skill of prompting discussions about Bloody Crow sooooo well that people keep becoming his fans because of her, and some are even drawing him thanks to her! I constantly see people creating more content of the boy thanks to her, and all she did was simply talking to them! xD A gripe at a character, theme, concept etc not being popular enough can cause GREAT things to happen and you can become people's MUSE! 😎

To be really really honest, I haven't been this giddy about anything since a long while back on kdrama Twitter. I remember staying up till odd hours analysing every scene of an ongoing kdrama and sharing everything with the community and every release day was CRAZY the good kinda crazy because of all the anticipation and the nerves building and up.

I've been having the exact same feeling with Busted now. It feels like prepping for the big release and I've got my notes running, tangerines peeled and ambience playlist working and it just feels so therapeutic tbh. I wasn't around much on Tumblr because of my birthday posting spree so I wasn't aware that the previous date of Busted release was today and I really sprinted here randomly hoping to find out a date on the release and well 9TH JUNE IS THE MEGA RELEASE OMFG. I'm just gonna do these in the order you requested them in, so starting off first with...

Billy -

He... doesn't hate it, but he doesn't really enjoy it either. It's one of those things where if he says no, you just have to accept it. There's no convincing him. But, if he's all like, "Mmm..." "Aahh..." "I dunno" "Wellll..." then definitely go for it.

Bother, pester, and beg him, and he'll eventually fold. He has limits, still, though. He won't let you do full face, none of that foundation, primer, no. None of that shit.

The most he'll let you do is some eyeliner, maybe mess with/shape his brows a bit, some gloss... little things like that. But it's all good because he's got a pretty face anyways, so more often than not, it's just a fun activity to do that keeps you busy and allows the two of you to spend time with each other.

Not to mention, (if he let's you) bold eyeliner looks really bring out that inner emo he denies he has.

(Like, sir, you literally were this🤏🏽 close to emo hair in the first movie, I don't wanna hear it🙄✋🏽). Speaking of hair, he'll actually let you tie it up if it's in the way. He doesn't like to inconvenience you, and the last thing he wants is you messing up his face, trying to "yassify" him.

Anyways, he likes to deny how pretty it makes him look and why it "takes so long" to be over with, and complain about how the "poking and proding hurts"...

Set his ass in front of the mirror and peep how fast the boy goes quiet and just s t a r e s at himself lmao.

He won't admit it, but he does think your work is very pretty😙✨️.

Plus, on the occasions where you finally get to convince him, a lot of the times, you'll straddle his waist and he just gets to hold you and focus on all of your already beautiful features while you spruce him up, and he enjoys it a lot because you never seem to notice nor try to hide yourself.

Gets very flustered very fast when you get super close to his face (often to do brows, liner, and/or mascara). Like, literally panics. Should he touch/hold your face (lovingly)? Compliment you? Kiss you? So many options, but he never goes through with them unless you initiate😭. But it works out well because you can usually tell.

Aka, Billy is doing puppy eyes without realizing it, and it's making you laugh and unable to focus🥴🫶🏽.

4.5 times out of 10, he'll let you put makeup on.

Freddy -

It's not his MOST favorite activity ever either, but he's a lot more tolerable of it than Billy is.

I'm talking, the boy will let you go ahead and do full face, BUT ONLY if he gets to stay in the comfort of his own room. Otherwise, it's just a couple of things he's willing to show off to anyone other than you or the mirror/camera.

Like mascara! He actually likes the way it makes his eyelashes look, he says it reminds him of how spiders look (you always remind him how that's not the point/goal but he ain't listening lmao).

He hates wearing any type of lipstick or gloss. He doesn't like the greasy, slippery feeling and he'll just lick it all off anyways, even if it does taste good. Lip plumper is a solid no-no, that shit burns and he'll deadass cry. The most he'll do is chapstick bc he doesn't like the feeling of chapped lips either.

Lovesss having his brows done (almost therapeutic), and he enjoys the way eyeliner looks. Lined neatly, though, not smudged. Billy's the one who's more into the smudgey stuff, not the perfect wings (emo🫵🏽!!).

It doesn't take much to convince him to do his makeup, but he's squirmy and doesn't sit still for very long, so regardless of compliance, it's still a whole task/chore fr. Again, straddling him is a good way to keep him in place, but that won't stop him from constantly trying to peer over and around you, look at his phone, shake hair out of his face (bc god forbid you tie it up🙄), all things that be ruining your work mid-way through.

No matter what you do, though, he always loves your work. Finds specific things to compliment and makes notes on what actually enhances his features and what doesn't. Super into it, more than likely because of the artist in him (I know we all saw his sketchbook in the movie, don't cap).

I wouldn't be surprised if Freddy would be cool with you actually painting his face and giving him wild looks. Would probably prefer that over you trying to yassify him and make him a pretty-boy (not to say that he alr isn't one, but ykwim).

7 times out of 10, Freddy will let you do his makeup.

Hey, I found out about maladaptive daydreaming being a thing and it's something I've done ever since I can remember, especially when I'm stressed. Recently tho it's become a real issue as I pretty much just daydream all day, I barely stop long enough to eat one meal a day and I'm behind in everything I'm supposed to be doing. Tracking

Journaling is a great tool for Maladaptive Daydreamers. You don’t need to write deep “dear diary” essays; just focus on making quick notes throughout the day. When you catch yourself daydreaming, jot down the time and make a note of your circumstances–what were you doing before you drifted off? How were you feeling? How are you feeling now? This will help identify possible triggers and accurately document symptoms and hours spent. 

Researchers even found, in their as yet unpublished paper, “Therapy for Maladaptive daydreaming: A randomized controlled trial of a self-guided web-based therapeutic intervention” that the very act of logging the daydreaming behavior helped MDers to reduce its frequency. You should keep in mind that it’s normal to go through a period of suppressed daydreaming that is abnormal for you when you begin tracking it. 

Example of a daydream log:

Whatever you choose to do, it’s important to focus on realistic, positive, goals that address the area you are most concerned about. For example:

Instead of

“Daydreaming ruins my personal relationships, I will only daydream for x hours this week.”

Try 

 “I want to prioritize time with loved ones, when I get the urge to daydream I will text someone instead.”

Mindfulness

This is a meditation technique that focuses on the present moment. For best results, it should be made a part of your daily routine. Don’t worry, this is easier than you think. Mindfulness does not require hours of sitting in a lotus position trying to keep your mind empty. You can eat, walk, or sit mindfully by redirecting your thoughts to your senses, feelings, and surroundings. Don’t fight your thoughts–accept them and move on to the next ones. 

There are many free resources and exercises that come in many formats. Mindfulness can be practiced by anyone at any time and in several ways which are simple to integrate into daily life. You have built a habit of daydreaming over many years, and working mindfulness into your daily life will help you practice being present. 

At first it will feel silly and perhaps impossible, it takes a while to build a new habit and it will feel foreign for a bit. Start very small, maybe trying it out only once a day. And remember; the point is not to clear your mind, you should not judge or admonish yourself for drifting off, let the thoughts come and gently redirect yourself to the present. As you practice this skill and rewire your brain coming out of a daydream should become easier and faster over time. 

Motivation

Motivational Interviewing is an approach guided by a therapist that helps one get past their ambivalence towards changing their behaviors by letting them find internal motivation. Even if you’re going it alone you may still benefit by crafting motivational statements for yourself. As with the example above, try for a more encouraging tone:

Instead of 

“Daydreaming makes me a shitty friend, I won’t do it.”

Try 

“I will prioritize time with my friends, this is important to me.”

Scheduling

Many people find it easier to focus on their day if they know they have guaranteed time set aside to look forward to. Try to choose a block of time where you don’t have many obligations and stick to the schedule you set for yourself. After your allotted time is over tell yourself, and perhaps your characters, that you are pausing and will resume at the next block. 

Urge Surfing 

Urge Surfing is a technique developed by Dr. G. Alan Marlatt, founder and director of the Addictive Behaviors Research Center at the University of Washington.  It’s a mindfulness-based technique used to help people develop the skills they need to cope with triggers and cravings experienced in addiction. Here is a brief overview of the S.O.B.E.R. technique developed by Marlatt and his team (Witkiewitz et al 2014).

When you notice a trigger or craving:

S top, wherever you are, whatever you’re doing.

O bserve, how you are feeling, what does the craving or trigger feel like?

B reath, focus all your attention on your breath. E xpand, expand that focus into the future, how will you feel when you give in, and after? R espond, with a full awareness of your situation rather than on autopilot.

When I visit my family I sometimes get to sit and watch Avatar the last air bender with my little brother and of course as I have consumed media that's my ocs problem now, so gonna make a list under the readmore of what kind of benders my two ocs would probably be lmao, feel free to rb with your bending headcanons for your twos

Axel: probably fire bender, could've been an air bender once when he was a mew but the manipulation of air combined with his pain and anger turned to heat became fire and he lost his airbending entirely for flames though he still uses air bending movements and techniques as that's what he learnt making his fire bending unique. Honestly could've been a candidate for the next avatar before his state was altered allowing him to pass on the genetics for different bending cause lmao his offspring probably shouldn't have different bending abilities but this is for me

Proto: non bender I think incredibly skilled with bladed weapons tho to make up for lack of elemental ability and pretty good at making up for his lack of bending, get bucket of water thrown at u idiot firebender ect. Probably pretty good at sensing seeing and contacting spirits

Scribe: Earth bender I can see him specialising in crystal formations and growth much like how the Unown cause all those funky crystal structures in their respective movie, kind of stunted power wise due to trauma has to only use one type of mineral at a time can't be messy can't mix dirt types can't hybridise crystals. He'll get over this in time, he's just been traumatised by his upbringing

Dusty: Plant bender, I know that's not canon probably spirit world gift specialises in the care and structural manipulation of plant matter and fibre maybe a weird earth bending subspecies he make vines grow cause brrrr, helps probably restore life to areas that have been devastated by natural fire or war

Darkness: Fire bending specialises in lightning bending using it with great satisfaction and joy to it's power and destruction, I'm pretty sure lightning is by mixing water bending moves so likely accidentally taught how to do it by May

May: Water bender however likely very traumatised so can't/won't use her bending it's locked in a sense. Can blood bend in a other worldly state under the full moon if necessary, possibly related to her trauma not sure. Will sit in water and gently holding water in her palms it brings comfort

Matt: Air bender, adapted to using the rest of his body to control summon and move air as no arms using his legs and such to move and channel air into attacks and just generally, could probably create air flows from his limbs once in more control like that water bender in LOK, more flowy movements again taught by May

Imp: Water bending gentle and flowing especially good at water healing and probably spends so much time in the water you wouldn't believe surrounding herself in it for travelling ect a constant secure pressure security blanket, can probably pull some Lapis Lazuli shit summoning water to completely surround and enlarge her form into a giant watery mecha looming over enemy ships like a horrific water deity "you should have left when I showed mercy." before rushing them capsizing them the water wrapping around and cradling dragging them down to a watery grave

MIA: Ice bending, freezes all water she works with due to her steely way and tense manner of bending it tenses and solidifies the water molecules into a frozen state sending deadly icicles and walls of ice to harm enemies. As she deals with her traumas of being forced to rely purely on herself she's able to start making snow rather than cold bitter ice, creating snow flakes that float down melting, flowing the water back up to refreeze it and repeat in therapeutic repeation

AI: Mud/Earth bending, learns the water bending techniques first but could never command water but finding wet mud would move mastering a flowy version of Earth bending first much like how Korra manipulates metal like water, would find the proper earth bending techniques later to achieve more advanced bending but her water bending training will always have an impact on her bending

Hurricane: rumbelle

A/N: so it’s supposed to be smut but I think it reads more poetically. First time writing smut tho so that’s prolly why lmao 😭 anyway, take that with a pinch of salt

Warnings: as said above^^ also angst!

Word count: 709, it’s a ficlet folks!

“This is a one time thing” is what he said two months ago, yet here they were again, two heaving bodies entangled in peach coloured sheets. The sun had set hours ago, but the blood in their veins had bubbled and boiled until they could hardly stand it, and suddenly a hurricane had gone through the rather elegant room. His shirt and tie had been tossed carelessly on the stairs, her blouse and skirt kicked somewhere under the bed. A one time thing- the memory of his voice saying that kept ringing through her mind. Husky and delicious, she had gotten drunk on it and suddenly once became twice until the hurricane had blurred their lives together. They had become this heaving mess, but a content mess they were. Too content, Gold thought.

He sighed, letting his eyes close and his head settle into the pillow. “We can’t keep doing this.” His chest was still heaving from the comedown and the memory of her against his mouth still felt so very alive. These moments were times when clocks would stop ticking and people outside didn’t matter, the energy in the room had been drawn to the bed magnetically. It was almost therapeutic to both of them. An outlet, a perfect little secret outlet, to themselves. But Mr Gold knew it couldn’t continue, she had burrowed her way into his mind and suddenly his thoughts were too fuzzy in the day. He couldn’t appreciate solitude anymore, not when his mind constructed what she might joke about, sat on the counter giggling softly to herself. Work had become a drain, it was so quiet and musty compared to the liveliness of Belle who Rumple felt he didn’t even deserve to talk to. Yet here he was, leaving his fingerprints against her thighs and hips. God it had to stop.

“What do you mean?” Belle moved to lay on her side, propping herself up on her elbow. Her hair had fallen over her chest in the process and the window was directly behind her, bathing her in the light of the moon. How did an angel spend so much time dedicating herself to a beast? She was smiling so softly at him, but there were an underlying layer of nerves behind that happy veil.

“You know what I mean.” His voice had become quiet as he averted his eyes from her gaze. Gold knew if he faced her, he’d never be able to pull himself away. He’d be sucked into the hurricane too.

Belle inhaled harshly, smacking her lips together. In a movement so quick the sheets fell from her, she sat up. How angry, how furious, how beautiful. “Oh I know exactly what you mean. You mean,” she turned to look at him “you mean that you’re too much of a coward to continue.”

“Belle I-“

“No. No I get it. Find a pretty girl, get her undressed. Who was the last girl, huh? Did you break up with her in her own bed too?”

“Belle-“

“Get out.” The eye of the hurricane.

And suddenly time had started again. The clock against the wall ticked by agonisingly slow as he picked his scattered clothes up, feeling the librarians glare towards him all the while. The stairs which had felt so electric now were painted in shades of blue and grey. His car felt miles away when in reality it was only a few steps, and god who saw? Who saw this walk of shame? Surely the marks against his neck were becoming visible now, a dead sign of passion beneath his loose tie. Belle French, an enigma wrapped in short skirts and high heels. How had she tangled the emotions of the infamously cruel Mr Gold up so quickly? He didn’t know, and he didn’t care. All he cared about, as he sat empty in the driving seat of his Cadillac, was the ice in her voice. Since the moment they met, he was sure she hadn’t a bad bone in her body. Belle was naturally a warm person, so full of fire and love. That sudden ice had sent shivers down his spine. Driving away, he heard his voice again in his head.

“A one time thing.”

A deceased thing.

1. What is your AO3 account?

I'm dragonsoftheeast on there too.

2. How many words did you write total in 2022?

75, 742! I can't believe it. This really is my most productive year, after not even writing anything in 2021, since during COVID I focused a lot on my original work. I definitely got into a creative groove this year for fic though.

3. How many fics did you publish in 2022? How many multichapters vs oneshots?

I wrote 3 multichaps and 14 oneshots. Incidentally all of those oneshots were for Vikings seasonal challenges, so...

4. What was your longest fic? Your shortest fic?

My longest fic was not born, but raised, my Elite novelization, which I finished this year. I'll get to the other two seasons at some point, I think, though that fandom was already pretty dead by the time I got there (tho Netflix keeps pumping out seasons). My shortest fic was more, give me more, give me more, a nice romantic scene between Bjorn and Thorunn. I have a really fond thought for this fic, but it really broke my mental barrier of, a fic needs to be a certain length in order to be publishable.

5. What was your most popular fic? Your least popular fic?

My most popular fic was Fire Made Flesh, which is kind of crazy because I only started it in November. My least popular fic is i don't ever think about death (it's alright if you do it's fine).

6. What fic didn’t perform as well as you thought it would?

Honestly, I never expect any fic to perform at all. I guess it would have to be dropping glasses just to hear them break, though, because I love writing from Thorunn's POV and I thought I did a really good job with it, but it didn't really get that much attention.

7. What fic performed way better than you thought it would?

someone's gotta go now! I wrote that in such a panic to meet the deadline of the challenge, literally the day of. I love writing death scenes, so I sort of fell back on that in desperation, but it apparently hit some people. But honorable mention to in all chaos there is calculation. I know Freydis is an unpopular character, but I was glad to see some people liked me exploring her headspace.

8. What was your favorite fic you wrote from 2022?

I mean, it's sort of a toss-up. I'm so proud of Fire Made Flesh. It's my first attempt at a proper epic fic since 2015, and I'm so much more prepared for it now than I was then, and a much better writer too. I feel like I've really sort of found my balance between planning ahead and gardening with it.

However, I wrote a catty conversation between Daemon and Aemond in High Valyrian in second son, and I was SO into that.

9. What was your favorite fic that somebody else wrote in 2022?

This is always really hard. But this is really random, but Aerea. The horror and the lore, combined together? Lovely. I think of it all the time.

10. Tag your friends to do this year-end fic review as well!

Well, this was actually quite therapeutic. I didn't really realize how much I had actually written this year. 2022 me certainly kicked it into high gear! Your Johan fic oh my god...Im so happy I got to live the day to witness you actually writing it. My week is made fr. The way you wrote the monologue is one thing but the actions after is a whole different thing. Not only where you able to completely craft the dialogue between Johan and reader but also the impact those words do. they're terrifying strong and you managed to pitray it perfectly. Actually while reading what he said to reader it made me feel similar and very sad to the point I started tearing up mid way through the story 😭 but I genuinely think reader response is so beautiful, it's something that I relate to and you managed to convert such a crisis and long term pain with it's conflict into one fanfic that is just beautiful beautiful beautiful work. I honestly don't know how you do it. I have been following you for maybe 3 or more years and the way your writing has drastically improved makes me feel so proud even tho I am beginning to get scared on how well you depict these kind of characters lol. You have changed and became something so much bigger in such a short span of time it's beautiful. I am so proud of you and this recent fanfic reminded me of it honestly. this genuinely is one of my favourite stories now I'll have to mark it down and add it to my list and I hope one day you'll realise some books that I can add more to

i think i need to like ,, lay down because WOW what a message. my heart is genuinely touched by this and i’m struggling to figure out how to put that into words (any ability to write just flew out of my body). writing this story was surprisingly therapeutic for the reasons that you mentioned. i knew that to write an effective johan story, there’d need to be some of him verbally digging into the reader. i decided to pick a topic i’m extremely sensitive about to be able to capture that psychic damage he’s capable of inflicting (aka why i made this post). i was worried whether or not the warning “manipulation” could fully cover everything, because if you can even slightly relate to the way johan was coming for reader, it’d be ouch ouch. but i was hoping reader’s response would somewhat mitigate that. 

carl jung’s discussion about the shadow is what i was mostly basing johan off of in the story, specifically the discussion of it in this quote: 

"The shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.” 

i think it’s imperative to come to terms with the more unsightly aspects of yourself, since without acknowledging them, they remain permanent blind spots. i was plagued pretty intensely with social anxiety disorder (along with GAD) in my teenage years, and something that came from that was like. this visceral want to be needed by others. the equation in my mind was people need me = i’m not annoying and it’s justifiable for me to be around. 

it took some later reflection to realize my obsession with self-martyrdom to solidify my place with others is Not in fact good, but at the same time, an urge i shouldn’t beat myself up over. of course we long to be wanted! who doesn’t? so long as we can check our motivations and keep this part of ourselves in line as much as possible, i don’t think it’s an ugly thing. i hope that anyone who struggles/has struggled with something similar can read the story and come to a similar conclusion. 

man maybe i’m gonna cry now 😭😭 thank you for supporting me over three years, that’s actually insane to think about?? it really has been that long hasn’t it... my understanding of evil has definitely improved from writing all these dark stories, i wonder if that’ll ever come in handy . mayhaps mayhaps. probably not. sometimes we need useless skills. i’ll keep working to improve my writing, i feel like the biggest help has been how often i do it and the fact i’m actually reading published books now JKGEMR i don’t know why i avoided doing it for so long. i’ve been so pretentious in thinking they had nothing to offer me omg.

I LOVE THIS QUESTION bc it puts a strong sense of reality on the topic and how people deal with this in modern day etc. so thank u <3 i DO like to think he does still experience episodes in which hallucinations and even delusions can morph into his sense of reality & times when he delves back into his sense of villainy and that becomes his reality for a time. i think that it might take some time for him to truly establish that these are indeed illnesses in which he can seek treatment tbh. like i think at first he believes he is condemned to experience this turmoil for all of the atrocities he's committed and that it's almost something he feels he deserves (which of course is not true) but at the same time, can feel resentful (at his life, the way things happened, the universe, mostly himself) though he would never allow anyone to see that type of resentment. he feels a lot of guilt surrounding that type of feeling since it contradicts a lot of his other beliefs.

ANYWAYS I THINK he does eventually seek help, but only when he starts rebuilding relationships & he can tell this part of him begins to not only affect himself, but the people he cares about. i want to develop more a journey with it for him through, where he goes from doing it for other people, to doing it for himself because he genuinely thinks he deserves a shot at life. it just... is definitely a journey and will take a long time for him to get to that point. that being said i think he'd be receptive to trying out medications and figuring out which ones work best for him (which is not always a journey of Ease, especially when it comes to psychotic disorders)

n i think in terms of proper therapy he'd feel very exposed and ashamed , so it would take awhile to find the right type of person to be able to fit with him in that regard? he's not very trusting and is generally pretty closed off and reserved, and that nature doesn't change much going into blank verse, as that has just always been his sort of personality. i think once he realizes how much he can say tho, and learns to trust the right person, he'll realize how much they/other people can truly help him in his journey to recovery.

IN REGARDS TO HIM SHARING IT W THE PPL IN HIS LIFE... that. is rlly hard for him :) haha but i wanna say he does eventually, probably with the help of therapy, after he's attended for some time, and after learning more about it himself. after all, it's very hard to describe what goes on in your head to people when you can hardly understand it yourself. i'm sure therapy would be very mind opening for him when it comes to learning about himself and even others.
