Ellie stays up all night. Sits on the window seat and stares at the door. Any minute now, she thinks over and over again; any minute now, he’s gonna come in here. He’ll fumble his way through an apology. She’ll hem and haw over whether or not she can forgive him. But she will; in the end, they both know she will.
She stays up all night. Ellie should sleep; she knows she should. Joel and her have a long trip ahead of them, cause he’s gonna come in soon, any minute now, she knows it. She isn’t sure how long a trip, hadn’t thought to ask, but a few days at least. Can’t wait until it’s just the two of them on the road, alone again. Jackson is nice, but there’s too many people for her to be truly comfortable. She should rest. But she can’t, can’t bring herself to look away from the door. Not yet.
She stays up all night. She cries too. But only a little. It’s a small allowance, but one she gives herself. When the door slams behind him, she keeps her eyes on it. Waiting for it to open again, waiting for him to return. But he doesn’t. So, she lets herself cry. Allows the tears to well up and spill over. Drip like battery acid down her face. Only for a minute or two, before she wipes them away like she always does. Endure and survive.
She stays up all night. Flips through that diary she found, eyes darting to the door every few seconds. She heard him go to the bedroom down the hall and close the door. Heard the squeak of the springs, him settling on the mattress. Then nothing. No squeaks, no sounds. She’s tempted, more than once, to go to the end of the hall and take a peak. Just to make sure he’s still here. She’s half convinced she imagined the sound of him lying down. But she doesn’t. Because she isn’t sure what she’d do if he wasn’t there.
Ellie stays up all night. Until the sun rises in the morning, painting the striped wallpaper in hues of orange and pink. She hears the door at the end of the hall open and close. Listens silently, too scared to even breathe, as his footsteps pass the teal door she hides behind. Pass and thunk down the stairs. She has to push back the tears she can feel rising. He left; he actually left her. Maybe she was cargo, after all.
She stayed up all night. She moves sluggishly as she packs her bag. Puts that cup thing Maria gave her in the outer zipper, along with the instructions. Bundles herself into her new clothes, hand-me-downs from people she’ll never meet. Zips up that fucking eggplant coat over someone else's sweatshirt. Tries her hardest not to dwell on the fact that she doesn’t get to keep anything in this life. Not her clothes, not her gun, not Joel.
She stayed up all night. So, she blames sleep deprivation for what she does next. Back on the window seat, pack at her feet, waiting. Hears boots clomp up the steps, blames the lack of sleep for the fact that she allows herself to hope. Spine straightening slightly, some part of her convinced that it’s Joel coming up those steps. Tries not to look visibly disappointed when Tommy opens the door instead.
She stayed up all night. Uses it to excuse why her feet drag, why she slows down as they exit the house. Hoping to catch one more glimpse of Joel before she leaves, before she never sees him again. He isn’t anywhere to be found. She trails after Tommy on the way to the stables, eyes darting around, looking for grey hair and a familiar tan coat. She doesn’t see it.
She stayed up all night. Thinks that may be part of why it takes her a second to process what she sees. Joel, tacking up a horse. It doesn’t take her long to catch up, though, answering Joel before his sentence is even done. Tosses the bag at him, grins wide and genuine when he offers her a foothold to mount with. Rubs a palm up and down the horse's neck while Joel and Tommy say goodbye.
She stayed up all night. Wants to use that as an excuse when she can’t hit the fucking target. Doesn’t, though, doesn’t want to answer why she hadn’t slept when Joel asks her. And he will, with that concerned, soft look he gets when he thinks she isn’t taking care of herself. So, she doesn’t. Just blames it on the rifle, feigning annoyance when he manages to hit the target first try. She’s secretly impressed, and based solely on the smug smirk he flashes her, Joel knows it too.
She stayed up all night. Which is why she presses her cheek to his back, soaks in the sound of him talking, and allows herself to finally sleep, knowing Joel won’t let her fall.

Okay I need to talk about these lines from Fromage (that person cello episode) because
Will: I feel like I've dragged you into my world.
Hannibal: No, I got here on my own. But I appreciate the company.
this is SUCH a good use of dramatic irony. Their roles here are in direct reverse of what the audience knows they really are, as we, unlike the characters, have all the context.
In this particular incident, Hannibal was the one who dragged Will into this situation, this world of killers with odd motives, by informing him of Tobias being a potential suspect. However, Will was already in this world, as this is the job the FBI has assigned to him. Still, he appreciates Dr Lecter being there to listen and keep him company in the darkness of his mind.
This also applies at a wider level regarding the premise and theme of the show. Hannibal seemingly drags Will into his world of murder and insanity via his "unorthodox" therapy methods, but really, he's only bringing out a nature that was inherent within Will. He got there by himself, because of both his line of work and just the way he is. But his entire life, he thought he was alone, and he was willing to accept that, until Hannibal came along and became the only person who could understand him. Will appreciates his company.
Now, if we put this into the context of the actual scene, we see Will feeling responsible for dragging Hannibal into his world, unaware that he and Hannibal already inhabit the same world and that Hannibal is significantly further in. And we see Hannibal going along with it, because it benefits his narrative that he did not previously inhabit this world. And really, they've found each other's company, and that's enough to make up for the rest.
I just think this was an extremely important piece of dialogue in terms of thematic relevance.

It's a nice day. A great day, even! Sunita invited them to the Hidden City (a place a little bit more far away from the police, because they're technically still wanted criminals) to show them how life is for her, and they're doing fantastic! She showed them a lot of places to buy clothes of different kinds that can suit mutants, they went to an auction house (I forgot what the name of those things are), and they even got to eat the most delicious food they could get!
Then, later, the idea of trying Sunita's cloaking brooch comes up. It wasn't for a specific reason, really. They just wanted to pass the time, because it was getting late and in a couple of hours they had to go home.
I have to admit that Raph, Donnie and Mikey look great. Mikey had dark skin, hair above his shoulders and his orange mark show themselves in the form or vitiligo. Donnie is just a little bit lighter, his hair way shorter. Raph has the longest hair out of them, and he's still a huge guy.
Then Leo's turn comes. Honestly, everyone thinks he'll look like a Lou Jitsu copy, because out of all of them he's the one that is most like their father.
Then he puts the brooch on.
And everyone's silent. Because while he does look a bit like Splinter, he's the solid copy of Karai.

i think there should be a warning at the start of every tom cruise movie to prepare me for staring at this man for 2-3 hours because not only is it dangerous, but i do also let out feral screams sometimes
for example, I had to pause jerry maguire and rewind it 10 times from the span of 1:19:25 to 1:21:30 for reasons I will not share.
that scene made me feel things
