"Fuck me!" Ed says when he finally takes in the situation. The situation in question seemingly being a younger version of himself, mid-twenties, right on the prime of the whole Blackbeard schtick, crouched defensively on deck and surrounded by half of the Revenge's crew. The Babybeard, for his part, has been shrewdly sizing him up, trying to be all subtle about it, but now makes a show of dubiously eyeing him up and down. "Seems to me you'd be getting the better end of that deal, Old Man." Oh, he is absolutely fucking delightful, all wound up and prickly and still convinced he has shit-all to prove to anyone at all. Ed is going to have so much fun crushing his entire worldview! "Aww, don't dismiss the value of experience," he winks, "I know a lot more about what you like than you do." He punctuates this with a delicate sip of his tea, pinky out, an airy swish of the sleeve of his wrapping gown. ~ The Mad Devil Pyrate Blackbeard has been living in kinda-retired bliss for a couple of years now, mostly going by Ed these days and enjoying a spoiled and pampered life as The Infamous Captain Edwards's co-captain, when he is abruptly faced with his worst and most fucking annoying foe yet: Himself.

Sometimes you NEED to send that venting teams message to your supervisor so they can gently say "this is not that big a deal you have simply lost perspective" and then clearly and more importantly add "but you should feel free to quit early today"

Blood and some body horror
Also spoilers for the most recent episode of Murder Drones :P
Tumblr media
Can you tell I watched the newest Murder Drones episode...
I don't know why but I absolutely love this design. It's so horrifying yet cute, so I ofc had to draw it.
Also I'm trying to work on my perfectionism by using pen and color pencils, so I don't erase as often, so if you notice any mistakes, no you don't. 🔫🔫

why secret anger is a better tool than secret sadness, or hiding rage under a persona of nurture.
MAJOR SPOILERS FOR: OMORI, DEMON SLAYER AND OSHI NO KO. I WILL BE SPOILING THE LATTER TWO'S MANGA SO BEAR IN MIND THAT WATCHING THE ANIME ONLY WILL NOT PREVENT YOU FROM FURTHER SPOILERS.
WARNING: DISCUSSIONS OF SUICIDE, GRIEF, LOSS AND MENTAL ILLNESS
We've all seen the character who has secretly been very sad their entire lives. Fuck, some of us are that character, and maybe have been for a while.
It's relatively easy to hide a sad backstory for a character, and it opens room to give them depth later on. And, unique to side or background characters, it allows the protagonist (and by extension, the reader) to connect further with them, giving the façade of plot and sub-plot depth. Of course, it's perfectly possible to do this well - it's possible to do every trope well - but it's also very possible to do this poorly.
And... it's so boring.
Like come on. Sad woman sad. Very sad. We're all sad, because we've been told to feel sad by the author. How sad.
I believe that there are far more fascinating tropes to explore, with much more depth - and I'd like to talk about one of my favourite forms of this. Hiding inner anger is infinitely more interesting, especially if the character can hide it well.
I've chosen three characters to discuss for this - Mari from OMORI, Ai Hoshino from Oshi No Ko, and Shinobu Kochou from Demon Slayer. I think all three of them perfectly capture the "hidden anger" trope very well, and I'll connect all of them, which allows us to understand the purpose of this character archetype overall.
Mari is an incredibly complex character, one whose complexity is actually very easy to miss. Due to Sunny's unreliable narration, we perceive Mari as perfect, since he blocks out any of her personality which mimics the truth. In Headspace, she's an incredibly default NPC, acting as a pillar for quest clues, healing and saving the game. As a player, you come to see her as some sort of comfort, a recurring symbol in irregular places. This evidently changes when Sunny discovers the truth, and we come to accept what he has done. However, Mari is never properly portrayed in the game - we only see her through the lens of the others - which means a lot of the fandom doesn't quite understand her character, let alone understand the selfish nature of perfectionism. There is nothing in the game that suggests she had external pressure causing her perfectionism (although I personally headcanon this), so we must go off it being internally driven.
Mari is not a tragically sad, or gorgeously happy character. She has been punishing herself with pent-up anger. Imagine you've been practicing something for months, over and over, only to find out your duet partner doesn't care anywhere near as much as you do. No-one cares as much as you do. All those months of practice ultimately mean nothing. Every time you pushed yourself to play the same song on repeat until it drove you insane mean nothing, because of this one moment, one stupid angry moment from your brother.
Despite all this, Mari isn't allowed to be angry, which is why the Truth segments still show her acting in an adult fashion (taking the unused Truth descriptions as canon).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the photos of the truth, Mari looks like a disappointed mother, telling off Sunny. She says she "isn't finished talking...", like a parent. Mari was fifteen when she died. She had no outlet for this rage at all, no time to be a teenager, when she was the mother figure of the group. Her character trope as the "nurturer" trapped her in a hellish cycle of perfectionism, hiding everything until her absolute breaking point - which lead to her death.
In Oshi no Ko, Ai Hoshino is a perfect mother, perfect idol, perfect person. This seems widely agreed by literally everyone, and the manga follows her son's attempts to avenge her murder, and her daughter's attempts to follow in her footsteps. Although the goals of the children change partway through, when Ruby learns the truth of Ai's death and Aqua loses faith in his scheme... Ai remains a pillar of gold. And yet, we find out during the creation of the movie on Ai's life that people around her suspect she was hiding anger.
Tumblr media
While I have perhaps... fallen behind... in my reading of Oshi No Ko, I'm just going to go purely off this panel and the previous chapters to analyse. Forgive me, I completely forgot which character says this, everyone's hair looks the same and I can't tell if it's Akane or the lady that adopted Aqua and Ruby. It's been a while.
Ultimately, Ai Hoshino is confused, and this makes her angry. We know she's never felt love before in her life - not until she had her children - which would be incredibly frustrating. You see everyone around you experience happiness and joy, and yet life keeps reminding you that your childhood was shitty, you work in the most insane industry of all time and you're exhausted. There's some implication that Ai's relationship with Aqua and Ruby's father was complicated, so perhaps that's the reason she's furious.
Regardless, Ai is far more complicated than every character portrays her as, which makes her interesting. As a reader, you smell a rat instantly. Something is off about the way she is glamourised, and you know you're missing a piece of this puzzle.
Shinobu outright states that she's been angry her entire life, at least since Kanae's death. She's been mimicking Kanae's sweet smile as an act of remembrance, but Shinobu is not happy, not calm, not sweet like Kanae was. Now, Shinobu isn't the most nurturing figure - at least not to Tanjirou, and not much to Kanao either - but she still acts in that calm, motherly demeanor, mimicking her older sister. In that way, Shinobu is also a perfectionist - she's just got a standard to match up to.
Shinobu is often mocked in the fandom for being "weak", but I think that's not the right way to understand her character. The fact that she doesn't fight off raw strength alone is symbolic, because it tricks the reader into thinking she's sweet and calm. No-one who is that weak can be full of such rage... right?
Mari and Ai Hoshino have further links due to the way they are portrayed after their death - as perfect. Sunny heavily misconstrues his sister, acting as an unreliable narrator for her personality, and it seems as though no-one will ever know what Ai was truly like inside. Instead, characters remark on their outward traits, which fandoms then fall into... guys. you're literally being trapped by the same trap their families and friends fell into. you're being gaslit by two dead women. please try to look past the silly little mirror they tried to reflect themselves in.
Now, what is the purpose of this archetype? They aren't main characters, and they aren't there as a fake display of depth, so what are they there for? All three of these characters die to further the plot - but more importantly, they act as a catalyst for character change in their sibling or children. Mari's death single-handedly destroys an entire friendship group, but it is also the reason they are brought back together. She alone allows Sunny to forgive himself, and within that, he must accept that she wasn't perfect, just as he isn't. Ai's death ruins Aqua and Ruby, but it gives them goals, something to work toward (symbolised with stars in their eyes). Shinobu's death allows Kanao to step forward and confront Akaza, which changes Kanao as a character, but it also ties up Kanae's subplot neatly.
To the player/reader, their deaths are far more important than their lives, but there is much more to explore in their lives than people understand. This is true complexity, and it's frustrating when it's brushed over in aus or fanfics.
Please, dig deeper. Look harder. Turn these dolls into humans, because they are corpses for a reason.
can you tell i find scary women pretty aggagagahgagsa
song i listened to while writing this: テレパス by Yorushika
The song is very good at capturing loneliness, and rage is quite an isolating emotion. Mari, Ai and Shinobu are all hiding an inner version of themselves, and they took that form to their graves.

Sebastian Headcanons I will stake my life on
- I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he is long-sighted and he does actually need those ridiculous glasses. Ciel kept seeing him holding his French work and sheet music two feet off his face and pinned him down about it, which took some time because Sebastian was very insistent it was the same for everyone. Ciel had to order him to get his eyes checked. Literally plotted murder the entire opticians appointment. He’s still incredibly touchy about it, which only gives Baldroy more incentive to tease him about it.
- Has an embarrassingly large crush on Agni that he would not admit to on pain of death
- Is very particular about where things go in the kitchen
- Derives too much joy from picking out Ciel’s little outfits
- Nearly had a heart attack the first time he went on a train
- Absolutely no sense of self-preservation
- Still immensely unnerved by both cameras and telephones
- Really not a powerful Demon. It’s kind of implied this is the case in the canon with characters often remarking on the fact that he’s starving, but even then he’s really not that well known in Hell. He’s definitely not Satan or anything, but he really wants people to think that.
- Loves English (the subject), hates Maths. He can do division, subtraction, etc. but he does not understand algebra and doesn’t care to
- He acts like he doesn’t care about them but he would put his life on the line for any one of the other servants
- He has immense respect for Tanaka, but he’s closest with Baldroy: much as he gets pissy about it, it is a comfort that Baldroy is already very aware that he’s not perfect; they both have the bite me and I’ll bite back harder attitude; they both have the emotional range of a teaspoon, and Baldroy’s ability to decide something is good enough is an antidote to his rampant perfectionism. Plus Baldroy is the only one who will call him out on his bullshit.
- Sharper sense of smell means a stronger sense of taste, so human food tastes nasty to him, but he does wish he liked the taste of tea.
- Absolutely no alcohol tolerance
- Aunt Francis scares the living shit out of him but also he’s desperate to impress her
- Massive show off because he lives for praise
- Asexual panromantic: sex is a means to an end for him.
- For a Demon he despises showing skin.
- He technically knows most languages but due to linguistic drift and countries changing languages in practice he only knows a handful fluently (French, Spanish, Italian, German, etc)
- He does genuinely enjoy his job as a butler. It’s preferable to Hell by far, he likes the other staff, just like the rest of the servants it’s something that he’s learnt to do that isn’t murder, and he does, though perhaps not consciously, think of the manor as the closest thing to a home he’s ever had.
- When he first took the contract he had absolutely no idea that he could even get attached to Ciel, given that their contract was unlikely to last more than a few years which is nothing compared to his lifespan, but human life moves much faster than Demon life and Ciel is such an incredible human (and Sebastian privately thinks he’s very cute)
- He likes chatting to old ladies because they think he’s terribly handsome and have the best life stories

13 with Eddie please!
Tumblr media
Pairing: Eddie Munson x Reader (no pronouns/gendered terms) Genre: fluff Word count: 690
Tumblr media
You line up all the boxes of ingredients in front of you, tapping them to make sure you've got them all at the ready, and turn on your heel to see Eddie holding your hand mixer upright, grinning widely. "Ed, what are you -" He interrupts you by pressing the trigger down, causing the whisk ends to spin rapidly accompanied by the usual loud whir, and his eyes light up with it. Laughing, you wrestle his arm down and take the mixer away from him. "No, absolutely not," you shake your head.
He pouts, sticking out his lower lip, "No fun! Why not?"
"Because, to me, this is an artisan's tool. In your hands, potential murder weapon," you point out, putting it to one side.
"Do me a favour, measure out the ingredients for me? I put it all on that sheet over there," you gesture towards the wall.
Amused, he strokes his hand over it, "And why is it covered entirely in Scotch tape?"
"Because, my love, as much as I appreciate you helping me to help your Hellfire boys with their school bake sale, I kinda need these measurements to not get blurred out with all the mess." You kiss his nose and look for some mixing bowls.
"Me? Make a mess?" he asks as he dips his fist into flour and flicks it at you.
You scoff, "Dick!" before quickly scooping more up and throwing it back at him. It dusts his hair and covers his face, causing him to sputter and stick his tongue out, "Eugh, pah! Why does something that tastes so bad help to make something so good?"
"Sugar cookies, babe. Key ingredient's in the name," you gently tap his cheek twice and help him with measuring everything out.
Eddie's "helping" mostly consists of mixing with such vigor that batter flies everywhere, licking the spoon while making sure he maintains eye contact with you the entire time, and trying to catch the egg timer right as it reaches zero.
You let Eddie make a certain number of batches while you focus on yours, baking, shaping and frosting them to perfection. He notices with a frown, "You've made so many more than me."
"W-well, yeah..." you fluster, and he gasps.
"Were you just making all the actual cookies and keeping me busy?!"
"No! No, I have a plan!" you insist, falling into laughter as Eddie crosses his arms and leans in close to your face.
"So then, why did you make so many?!" he asks, keeping his proximity.
"...Okay, so maybe these are the only ones for the bake sale, but -" He scoffs, and you raise your voice to be heard over him, "But! Honey, just look." You compare your identical, perfectly frosted cookies, to his asymmetrical shapes, watery icing with clumsy decorations. "I don't know how else to say this, and I say it with all the love in the world, but... You frost cookies like you’re neither left or right handed, but a third other hand that you don’t actually possess and I can’t stand it being a part of, y'know, this." You gesture at your batch. "I'm so sorry. I love you so much. But not enough to fend off the perfectionism." You look over at Eddie, with his pouty lip and puppy-dog eyes. "No, don't - I can't stand that!" you half-laugh. "No, I really did have a plan. These ones were gonna be for just us to eat tonight, after we drop the other ones off, and pick up a little something to watch from Family Video?"
Eddie doesn't say anything, instead poring over his cookies again. You start putting the cookies into containers, occasionally glancing over to Eddie to try and gauge if he was actually upset at you.
Your fears are all cast aside when he slides over the heart-shaped cookie, that now has icing on it that you can just about recognise as being both your names, followed by an Eddie Munson trademark wet kiss to your cheek. "I love my star baker."
Relief washes over you as you hug him tightly. "Love you too, Eds."

for the ask game:
why. why irrigation subplot. you have sent me on mad quest on wikihow and yt to figure out how they could get the water uphill for that well. amazing job xd
so now i can offer you the mental picture of Feanor, Celebrimbor and Annatar bonding like those guys who make these insane water pumps and slide houses and other installations on yt (Caranthir, yelling out of frame: hey, that was my pet project!!!)
bonus/alt: the "elrond meeting the feanorians" scene - like "oh these people got murdered while murdering my family, okay i get it, gotta call them uncles atm" Elrond sweetie,,,,
🦅 < an eagle to rescue u from the cliffs of perfectionism and writing blocks
ps. i ❤❤❤ your tolkien fics the premise of ""what if we can give these ptsd ridden war criminals amd villains the Powers of Therapy and Emotinal Management"" and the end results are card games, inventing new fields of necromancy, jailbreak from the afterworld into heaven, philosophy and!! snickerdoodles. absolute mayhem disaster masquerading themselves as 100% logical efficient geniuses. effervescent amazing magnificiet, 11/10, *chef's kiss*
In which I continue taking questions for the director's cut ask game (you can still send in suggestions if you want!):\
Why is there a water supply problem???
Look, man, I just wanted Caranthir to have something nice to do in the background! He's staying out of the way of all the drama SO HARD. Is the well an URGENT problem? Absolutely not. Is working on it helping him readjust to life? ABSOLUTELY.
There's something to be said for the fact that Curufin was like...wait. Shit. The thing I do (make weapons) is not an option? What do I do??? And has so far been coping with everything very badly. Meanwhile Caranthir was like...give me a benign problem immediately. Give me literally anything that isn't "go to war" or "fight with my brothers and father". And once he had one he got into it and has not caused any trouble because he's just chilling with his equations and his diagrams. Caranthir and the twins have the right idea; they immediately looked for things they could do to feel more at home in the world again (baking, irrigation, board games, etc) and got right on that.
Elrond meeting the Feanorians
Okay so like. In my head, right, Elrond has been The Responsible Elder for so goddamn long. He's a father. He's in charge of Rivendell. Everybody comes to him for advice. Galadriel's older than him by a long shot, but he and Galadriel have been Coping With This Shit for so long that she's less an elder family member and more one of the few colleagues he can actually rely on. Who has nonetheless generally been inconveniently far away.
He's got his parents back now, but he is still in Responsible Mediator Mode with them, because whooo boy is there a lot to work through there. He's got his wife back and that is amazing and he is over the moon about it but she is still only one person.
And now, suddenly, here are his foster fathers. Who knew him as he was when he was young and angry and hurting and real, not as an idealized image of a lost son or a responsible diplomat who always had a reasonable answer. And here is their whole family, whom he never got to know, who have all the mannerisms that he recognizes from Maedhros and Maglor (and many of which he himself picked up in childhood and never lost), and they are immediately like "family? Nephew? Grandson???" and, look.
They are a bunch of kinslayers and idiots who lit the world on fire. If they do that again there are going to be Problems.
But he already loves two of them and the rest of them are here going "family, maybe?" and Maedhros and Maglor talked about them and missed them and loved them and he feels like he half-knows them already and--
And maybe they're such a mess that Elrond can finally, finally be a little bit of a mess too without anybody acting like it's the end of the world, and--
Yeah. Okay. Maybe Elrond can have some extra family, as a treat. As long as they don't light the world on fire again.
Mayhem disasters masquerading as geniuses
I have two general categories of feeling about the absolute absurdity of this fic's premise, which usually make themselves known simultaneously:
Oh my god what am I doing and why am I doing it
Oh, that's right, I'm doing it because where ELSE could I get this combination of characters to amicably interact with each other, I must make it more ridiculous immediately
...so I am always DELIGHTED to hear that other people are enjoying this weirdness. <3 Look, sometimes I just gotta make messy people with horrifying histories try to be friends with each other and attempt to make better choices. For funsies.

@heartstringsduet replied to your post “I know anime is known for anime titties etc and I...”:
Same 😂
The treatment of the P5R's female characters is honestly so buckwild to me, because they're on one hand treated extremely well and on the other hand they're treated like shit.
As in, Makoto, Ann and Futaba are fleshed-out, nuanced characters. (I know there's another female Phantom Thief but I haven't met her yet!). They are amazingly written. They have great depth, in my opinion. They have good sides and bad sides. They develop over the course of the game. They have individual storylines that go deep, from Ann's trouble with her modelling gig and her friendship with Shiro, to Makoto's grief and her perfectionism that stems from it, and Futaba's case where she's wrongfully led to believe she murdered her mum and how that affected her mentally. They also bond with each other and with the guys. You can date them, but you don't have to, because they aren't just there for Ren to court. They bond with him, obviously, but there's no underlying agenda. They have wants, fears, hopes, likes, dislikes, annoyances and quirks. They're allowed to make mistakes and amend them. They're allowed to loud and sweet and brash and nice and catty and complicated. So yes, especially if you compare them to other women in video games, who can be reduced to either "love interest", "sex object", "bimbo" or even the quote-unquote better archetypes like "healer" or "girlboss" or "warrior", they are treated with respect and dignity.
Even the non-playable female characters all have an interesting and meaningful storyline, which is why it's appealing to get to know them and even date them. I only recently found out Kawakami lied to me! Shocking! She feels terrible. And I only just met Hifumi's mom. Hifumi is being put under a lot of pressure and it's weighing her down. Last time I saw Tae, she found out her patient died and she was allowed to grief. I already maxed out Kasumi's ranks, for now. Aka, yes, the ladies are treated with dignity.
And then they're treated like absolute shit when it comes to their bodies, what they eat and how much they weight. I already made an earlier post about how Ann's slowly being reprimanded for her eating. It was refreshing to have a female character eat without it centering on weight, but then that got thrown out of the window in her modelling storyline with Mika. Especially since male characters don't get that treatment. How dare Ryuji, the other big glutton, reprimand her for eating cause it'll make her fat, while he's about to join her to eat the same thing? Morgana gleefully comments that Makoto doesn't eat lunch because she's in a bikini and she probably wants to be slim, cause that's supposedly the only reasons she wears it. No one talks about how Ren shouldn't eat because he's shirtless at the beach and that'll impact how others will see him. Futaba isn't initially comfortable revealing that much skin, but she will just have to deal with it. Yusuke is allowed to cover up, even in the heat.
Like, the game also shows off how harmful it is to see women as objects, but when Ren, Morgana, Ryuji and Yusuke do it, it's fine apparently? It's funny, even? Komashida trying to pressure Ann into something regarding her body is bad! Ren and Ryuji pressuring Ann in modelling nude (while underage) is good! That gross customer making very inappropriate comments about how hot it is that Futaba is basically a kid is bad! Yusuke immediately wishing to see Futaba in a state of undress "for art" is quirky! Komashida seeing girls as objects he should be able to freely get due to his status is bad! Ryuji bemoaning that girls aren't flocking him because he's so much better than other dudes since he's a Phantom Thief is understandable! A perv gripping Kasumi is bad! Yusuke grabbing Ann from behind just happened! The creeps on the beach treating Ann and Makoto as objects to obtain is bad! Ren, Ryuji and Yusuke treating other girls at the beach as objects to obtain is just guys things!
What's the deal here? Is the idea that just because Ryuji, Ren and Yusuke are teens, it's not as inapporiate as when grown ass men do it? The main reason Ren isn't as bad as the others is because I play him and I make him point out that the others are being gross and full of shit. Which is also why it annoys me so much when I cannot control him and he does shit like that.
Not to mention Ann's anime titties that bounce every time she does a special move. Honestly, I don't even mind that Ann's sexy, because there's nothing wrong with women wanting to be sexy and feeling good because of it. But then you get those really male gazy anime cutscenes where Ann airs her shirt and Ryuji just full on stares down her cleavage, or the beach thing where she adjusts her panties and it zooms in on her boobs and Ryuji makes groping hand gestures. Dude????? And yes, luckily, Ann gets to react to it. She gets to call Ryuji (and Yusuke, when he grabbed her) out, but still???? Ryuji doesn't fucking stop?????
So yeah, this is wild. I suppose that even when women are written as actual people, they still cannot easily escape this shit.

tagged by @prideandperdition and @medusastears, y'all are lovely and I'm weirdly sentimental to be tagged in a Tumblr tag after being gone from this site for like... 4 years?? So, thank you <3
last song: Bling bang born by Creepy nuts (it's so silly but so good!)
favorite color: Green, if I have to pick an absolute favourite
last movie/show: Been watching an awful lot of QI haha, but also Mashle season 2, Sousou no Frieren and Apothecary diaries
next on my watchlist: nothing yet, because I'm watching quite a lot at the moment :')
last game: Palworld! It's pokemon with guns?
last book: The last Devil to Die by Richard Osman! Go read the Thursday murder club series if you haven't already, it's about old people solving murders in their retirement village. It's so so so good!
sweet/savory/spicy: In general? Sweet all the way. Though when that salty/spicy craving hits, it hits hard.
relationship status: In a relationship and living together as of recently!
last thing i searched online: Where to find Mozzerina (a pal in palworld lol)
current obsession: Yubisaki to Renren, best shoujo romance I've read/seen in a while. Takes me back to being 14, but in a good way hahah
greatest flaw: I'm really struggling with my perfectionism in my new jub currently
fic i'm currently reading: nothing, stopped reading fanfic ages ago and now I wouldn't know where to start. Thank you so much, this was fun! I'm tagging @cynder6 @finallyfacingfailure and @ymcapabel (if you want to do it, if not that's also fine!)

This is my Tyrell Wellick character analysis or: Some bullet points that explore the absolute dismantling of a character over 3.5 seasons of television
He denies what’s inside him in favor of what he thinks other people want from him. This results in a nagging feeling of emptiness he is for sure subconsciously aware of even when we meet him at the show’s start. By 404, he is fully consciously aware of the emptiness, and of why it’s there.
Vain, but out of fear of not being approved of
He’s ambitious, but out of fear of not feeling valuable enough
He’s impulsive
He’s quick to anger but also quick to moving beyond anger into something else, often sadness
He’s quick to tears; more on his general emotional instability later
He tends to subsume himself in other people’s goals
He’s desperate for approval and positive attention
He tends to sacrifice his own wellbeing for his goals, and his goals always have to do with working for other people. As a result, he feels entitled to success and certain privileges, and he gets mean when he doesn’t feel he’s been given what he’s owed due to his sacrifices.
He is self loathing as fuck, and this probably undergirds a lot of the rest of this.
He feels best when he is hurting others because what he wants more than anything is what he’s always felt he lacked: Control. He lacks control over his emotions, he lacks control over what he thinks he wants (other people’s approval, something you can never control the outcome of), and he arguably grew up poor and therefore helpless in the capitalist system (there are many references to rural life in his past) which may have created his strong desire for control.
Yet counterpoint, I think his killing of Sharon Knowles took his solace in hurting others to a logical conclusion, and it turned out to be a logical conclusion he did not like. Watch him in the moment after he kills her. That is the behavior of a man who can’t decide if he wants to cry or vomit. He wants to have enjoyed it because hurting others has been a go-to solution for him, but he doesn’t enjoy it. This is one potential reason the murder becomes the bug in Tyrell’s system that he has to find in order to run properly, a thing he is beginning to do in season 4 just before his death.
He’s filled with deep wells of love that he does not know what to do with. The man is simply overflowing with affection and a desire to protect, care for, and serve. He is likely overflowing with these impulses because he gives them such limited expression. He’s controlled these impulses all his life, but after he kills Sharon he finds himself gravitating toward expressing these impulses, perhaps because taking violence to its logical conclusion via murder did not bring him any relief.
He is compulsively self-sacrificing for the things and the people he loves, including a willingness to sacrifice his own conscience. He has a protector/provider complex that convinces him he’s expected to do whatever it takes to support those he loves, no matter how horrible it is. His worldview is morally neutral in that way. Yet his body disagrees, as is evinced by his reaction to Sharon’s murder.
He really is a perfectionist, as he tells Elliot he is. And we all know that perfectionism is really fear and self-loathing.
He seems, as late as the end of season 3, to have a childlike worldview where simple things like hard work or the “will to take” can carry you past the messiness of human betrayal and counter-betrayal and systems of power. The disintegration of this worldview in the wake of realizing he’s a Dark Army puppet is probably what breaks Tyrell, or it’s a major part of it. This worldview may have been constructed to help him feel like he has control in the face of all the evidence to the contrary, and realizing that the capitalist system/the power systems in the world are utterly outside his control and he is a powerless little piece of that system and nothing more is a truth he’s been running from his whole life.
He’s more afraid to lose what he has than he is lustful for gaining more. As a result of this and some above points, I would say Tyrell is driven by fear of loss and love of other people. That makes losing Joanna and his son the absolute worst thing that could ever have happened to this man.
He trusts too easily, which is kind of sweet actually, especially considering he has literally been one of the vipers in the viper den of corporate politics for years. Why is his trust intact in spite of this? That’s unclear, but it’s another factor that contributes to the overall sense that Tyrell is in some ways still a child by the end of season 3. By season 4, and certainly by 404, his trusting nature is I think one of the thing’s he’s lost. For example he no longer has faith that Elliot cares for him back, or that he ever will.
But conversely he thinks he’s this master manipulator. What’s funny is that many of the attempts to manipulate we see have absolutely no hope of success. Possibly, this is a subconsciously intentional self-destruction mechanism. Think about his line to Scott Knowles early in season 1: “If I were you I wouldn’t have let me in the house.” He delivers it suavely and confidently like it’s going to contribute to his overall dominance, and yet saying that cannot possibly do him any good, and in fact could hurt him. This man is a sensitive who aspires to psychopathy and it’s killing him.
He’s empathetic as in he feels other peoples’ emotions, but has no idea what to do with it and just ends up confused and crying and not being of  use to anyone. He teases Joanna about being “miserable” when she’s calmly scheming and she doesn’t deny it. He senses accurately that Elliot is much more than he seems. He’s correct in his suspicion that Sharon Knowles is dissatisfied.
His obsession with the “will to take” is also partly the result of the fact that he doesn’t know what he wants to take, so the simple act of taking becomes a substitute for wanting things and getting what he wants. This worldview is also another way to feel that he’s in control, since he can control whether or not he attempts to take.
A summary of some of this could be: He’s a control freak because of fear of losing things if he’s not in control, who desperately wants someone to safely take control away from him so he can fucking rest a minute and figure out what he really wants. Tyrell’s fatal flaw is not knowing what he wants or even thinking about what he wants. It’s sacrificing his inner life for a world of appearances for the sake of approval, resulting in emotional instability due to suppression and therefore unpredictable behavior. Tyrell’s growth would have to start with figuring out what he wants. That might start with his son, which is the only real thing we see him want in the show.
By 404, Tyrell has gone through a set of experiences custom-designed to dismantle everything that kept him standing. He really only has two choices at that point: Change himself or fucking die. With limited inner resources and no external support, it’s unsurprising he chose to die. The story of Tyrell Wellick is the story of the stripping down of the illusions necessary for someone to believe they can survive in the plastic, rigged capitalist game, and ultimately suggests that the impulse to win the capitalist game is at root an impulse to death.

I have to give you huge props for deciding to interrupt your comic for the Grimm / Pearl romance. I don't think a lot of people would do that, or have your go with the flow style of creating.l I do miss Alrick a bit but I know he will come back in due time XD I am curious if he will end up interacting with pearl or Grimm more. Even tho Grimm likes murder and violence more than Alrick, they both seem to feel similarly about Death Head higher ups, the mask less.
Do you have any advice for folks who struggle with perfectionism and self esteem with creating? I've been trying to get back into some form of creative work for awhile but it's been hard. I wish I too could just go with the flow and stop caring about how good my work is, or comparing it to others.
I think the only way to beat down the need for perfectionism and self-esteem is just to beat it down. To realize that there IS NOT just two or three accepted art styles that exists but genuinely thousands! If you try to fit in into 2-3 art styles, you will never discover what is your true style. That comes out from just drawing and enjoying the process. Sure, it takes time. It took me about 7 years to learn to draw the way that I wasn't upset after I looked my art like years later. I still see mistakes in them but they don't bother me anymore - it doesn't matter.
I have found helpful also looking at professional comic artist and their styles. How many perfect styles there are? How many of them draw everything perfectly with no messiness, mistakes, odd proportions, weird expressions etc which pop out occasionally or are implemented in their art style? And yet, they are successful and people like their stories?
Tumblr media
Is this face, head or expression anatomically correct? No. None of those three are. Has it made Jujutsu Kaisen any less for success and readers enjoying it and the characters? Absolutely not!
So why should you beat yourself up for not getting it perfect when people earning their living with art don't do it perfectly either?
Tumblr media
I personally always think about Billy Idol and what he did in his career as a punk musician. When he was a nobody solo artist, he decided to go to USA and become famous there with punk. Too bad that just recently, the most well-known and super famous punk band Sex Pistols had came back from USA because they flopped there completely. USA was NOT ready for punk. Did it stop Idol from going? No. He went there.
In the USA, wherever he went, all record labels said him the same things: 1) We have punk here. No radio station will ever play any of your songs and you will never get a record deal from anyone. You need to change your music genre. 2) We don't like British English here. Learn to sign with American English. 3) Change your style and hair because you're one fucking ugly bastard. No one will give you a record deal because the way you look, and no one will ever come to your gigs to see a man as fugly as you are. Idol thinks "Well, if learning American accent helps, I'll do it. The rest I won't change. It is who I am and what I love to do and how I do my music. It stays."
The fugly bastard is still performing. Became one of the biggest artist on the 80's. Made punk music radio friendly. His gigs were sold out. He was the 80's sex symbol and his music videos (and Idol himself) were sold with sex to female fans. His still got the ugly white hair which was supposed to stop him from ever getting any music deals.
So. Stay true to who you are. Keep creating. Even if no one drew the same way you to, keep drawing! Even if everyone drew with the exact same style as you do, keep drawing! Look at art, look outside of the (fandom) normal art you see - what styles exists? How you can do art in many ways. Go to art museums, go to see things which don't even make sense to you - you have now seen a new way of doing things.

What are your dr ocs relationships with each other! Like are any of them friends? In my mind I'm imagining Keiki and Chami being besties and throwing the best tea party ever
thank you so much for the question!!! and omg im absolutely delighted that people point out Keiki and Chami looking like they could be besties/gfs - because they are! im going to go into details under the cut :D
Keiki and Chami are what i like to call one-sided rivals to best friends- since they share a "similar" ultimate, from the start Chami feels a little bit thrown into a competition. See, the thing with Chami is that she tries REALLY hard to cater to other people and her perfectionism makes her push herself a little too hard to the point its overwhelming to others and in turn makes her insecure. this is the total opposite of Keiki who is an effortless people magnet- even the grumpiest in the group like her. this makes Chami really jealous so in her head Keiki becomes her rival and she avoids her altogether. Keiki doesn't hold any negative feelings for Chami although she can tell Chami dislikes her- so accordingly, she is not a fan either.
this changes after the second trial though- when Keiki successfully protects Chami from unjust accusations. Chami is like "WAIT so you actually don't hate me and don't want to steal all my friends from me???" and Keiki is like "girl NO? where did that come from, i was hoping for us to be friends!" and Chami is like "oh. oh 🥺" and they have a very heart-warming "conflict" resolving moment that is interrupted by Jun going "umm ladies i think we're in the middle of murder investigation?" to which they go "RIGHT. im so sorry"
they become best friends after that! inseparable too. turns out they work amazingly well together and like u guessed, they throw the best tea parties ever!
they're hinted to have feelings for each other too- after Paris (who went to american school before) suggest they organise a prom night, Keiki and Chami work hard for it to be perfect. and when the prom night comes they also realize they were so busy they forgot to get a partner!! which, you know, isnt that tragic because turns out they both planned to ask each other <3
me when i go on 34324 pages essay on Keiki and Chami ANYWAYS. one last fun fact i wanted Keiki's hair to resemble cinnamon rolls and for Chami's hair to resemble croissants with the ribbons being like "chocolate toppings"! not sure if it shows through so i thought ill throw it out there :3
from other's distinctive relationships we have Paris and Yami- theyre complex as they are kind of working against each other all the time, but Paris wants to prove herself innocent to Yami and by proximity pretends to want to befriend her. Yami is very weak for kindness shown her way but shes also very smart so this is very hard for her- she's basically having to battle between rationality and feelings. if the game was from her perspective it would be "danganronpa: yami's struggle between wanting justice and crushing easily". Although Paris quite literally gaslights her all the way, she does eventually put so much work into befriending her that the feelings overtime just become a little bit real
i think im gonna wrap it up so no one falls asleep on my post (although if you're curious about anyone else im super happy to answer! :D) BUT i also wanted to mention Kei here since i noticed a lot of people like him- Kei is bros with Kenichi, friends with Akane and also the only person Yami has to a real friend too, he's super sweet to her! Kei is "autistic - loves to talk" and Yami is "autistic - loves to listen" so theyre very wholesome together :'3
IF ANYONE GOT THIS FAR THANK YOU FOR READING it means a lot to me that people r actually interested in it wah!! <3

BROOMSTICKS MY LOVE! It was so hard to choose but I'm going with 9, 25, 28, and/or 32, with 25 and 28 absolutely being inspired by our conversation just now XD
from this fic writer ask game (no time limit on this, feel free to ask anytime!)
❤️❤️❤️ oooooo you picked some great ones!
9. Tag 3 fic writers you think are underrated/unknown in the fandom/fanfiction community.
oooooh so i don’t really quite know who’s unknown, but some new people i’ve loved following since the last time i posted shoutouts to hp/marauders/wolfstar & misc-fandom/pan-fandom blogs:
@leogichidaa! amazing regulus & black family meta (sirius and regulus and healing from enmeshment, the lost boys: sirius, percy, and BCJ) and fic
@tracingpatternswrites whose Sirius' first full moon in Azkaban fic murdered me
@everythingbutcoldfire -- lovely lovely valentine’s day aroace remus lupin fic, and excellent reblogs & thoughts on aroacespec stuff too
i refuse to stick to 3 haha it doesnt count if i rec people for things other than fic right???
@mkaugust writes wonderful poetry & also microfic may wolfstar!
@carlav-blogs so wholesome! those tattoos!!! the details are ENDLESS.
@remixloonylupin the tenderness. your style. oh my gosh. (pspspspss also writes incredible fic about transness and psychosis)
25. Do you listen to music as you write? If possible, link your writing playlist.
hmmmm some of the time, maybe half? i definitely listen to music a lot BEFORE i start writing, to get me into the mood/ clear my head sorta — it’s also happened before, once or twice, that i’m poking around spotify without the intention of writing and i get randomly bitten by the urge to fling out some words. not necessarily good words, but — whatever, we take those XD
28. How do you deal with writing pressure (ie: pressure to update, negative comments, deadlines, etc)?
uhhhh BADLY. (also, my writing pressure is pretty much all internal rather than externally imposed, if that matters!)
1) sometimes i try to push through the bad, and — sometimes it works, honestly. sometimes brain is just being a dumb and cuts out the tantrum after a while.
2) trying to get my head in the right space — so, music, and — that’s mostly why i have these lying around tbh: self care tag / encouragement / overcoming perfectionism
3) venting to understanding people!!! one of the most important things i’ve found (am still learning) is that so many people—literally even the most amazing ‘why are you not writing original fiction you could be making a killing’ / ‘you??? reading MY TRASH?? why do you even BOTHER honestly’ writers—can relate to these writing struggles! & not just the struggle, but also that indescribable desire to do it anyway. it’s weird and wonderful and literally the only reason i even dared to start let alone am still going (ish) hahaha
32. Copy and paste your top three favorite lines/jokes/sentences you’ve ever written. What fics do they come from?
billie believe me when i tell you i agonized over these for A G E S, seriously considered skipping the question, etc etcetcetc
from my andromeda halloween/yule drabble series, star of wonder:
The tree itself was still as green as ever. It would look just at home bare out in the biting cold, or all dressed up beside the roaring hearth fire. Unchanged, steadfast, evergreen. Just the same in the cozy Hufflepuff common room filled with the aroma of baking bread and the elegant Slytherin one with its enchanting music, in the Black family manor or in the Tonks’s small Muggle cottage.
the summary of my peter drabble, Resolution:
Since he was eleven, Peter’s New Year’s Resolution had always been the same: this year I will be braver.
the last sentence to my RL fest remadora, the grace unasked for:
And he learns that, even at the furthest ends of the earth, you're always sheltered under the same sky, watched over by the same moon.
especially because it was pointed out to me by a lovely commenter that this is apparently really similar to a poem that i may have come across before but certainly don’t consciously remember!
thank youuu for the ask!

Here’s an excuse to ramble about Roxy!
I don't know why I find it so hard to ramble about her honestly sdfsdfd we'll give it a go though!
I love giving her a fascination with fire. She collects lighters and burns stuff when bored and can sit and watch the flames for hours. It's probably the only time she's completely relaxed when she's not asleep. Roxy loves fire and she deserves it! The others also collect lost lighters and stuff to give to her as gifts and have asked Vanessa to buy a few especially for her before. Her favourite is the one shaped like a dragon that opens up like a Pez dispenser and she lends Chica the frog shaped one on occasion.
Roxy is so dog I love her. Self esteem issues and perfectionism for days and needs that validation or she'll combust. She doesn't sleep great because she doesn't have a good outlet for her endless energy that doesn't get her into trouble. She can run for days and days and if there's ever a situation where she can't leave her room for any reason, the place is wrecked because she's just been bouncing off the walls like a game of pinball. She also cannonically is the most violent of the animatronics and I think that's very cool of her.
Yeah sure, Monty destroys his room but Roxy? She rips apart robots and tears up the track. She literally is the bane of the staffbots existence and you know what? She deserves it! However! This does also make her a pretty good candidate for killing Bonnie since Monty doesn't have that track record of robo-murder.
But I don't think she or Monty did. I like to give Roxy a fun platonically married or sibling level relationship. There's definitely been a conversation like "Oh what are you and your boyfriend doing for valentine's?" or something and Roxy has just stared at whoever said it like "My what now????" They're both bi and extremely close so it's a fair enough guess. They like to dance, sing, bowl and race together with frequent arcade battles. They make such a dynamic duo they are so fun to think about.
Anyway, Roxy! I like to think she gets bored really easily. She always has something she's doing because doing nothing just pisses her off and also she has the energy to run for days and she gets in trouble for sprinting laps for hours so what else is she gonna do?
She's like the band's doctor in a way too. She loves all manor of vehicles and fixes and tinkers with the go-karts and company vehicles in the loading docks regularly but at some point she learned how to repair herself which allowed her to repair the others on occasion, which eventually led to her being their go to repair guy since she'll fix them then and there and doesn't make a record of it that can get them into trouble. For this reason, she's the favourite amongst all maintenance workers. She makes their job easier after all!
Honestly, given her eyes, speed and apparent ability to smell people out, she could easily have been designed to help out security find and deal with intruders and to find missing kids. Depending on the AU, I like to make her the one that finds the left out kids and either bring them into the party or give them one on one time doing whatever it is she can get them to do with her. She's skilled at finding missing kids and reuniting them with their parents and most of her fans are kids or teens she's supported in this way. Especially popular with the teens because well... at a kids birthday party it's the older siblings that get left out the most, right? Speaking of birthdays, she gets so damn excited for when she has a party booked. She will spend weeks planning and making sure everything is perfect though she will never admit that.
She doesn't admit a lot of things like that. She loves all of the other animatronics and would take on the world to help them but damn she has a hard time saying it. She's not great with her words unless it's sarcasm, jabs or insults. Has absolutely told a pain in the ass customer to fuck off and dropped a bully into the nearest Freddy themed bin. Does she get in trouble for this? Yes. Aboslutely. Does she care? No. Absolutely not. Complaints from customers and about how she treats troublesome customers are the only time she's completely deaf to criticism. Any other time? Her ego is bruised and she pretends its fine but she's inwardly screaming.
I've given everyone a different amount of animalisms but Roxy by far has the most. She's the one that's closest to the animal she's based off and this can be both a pro and a con. She can struggle to hide how she feels since dogs are so open with body language and what not, and certain noises can trigger a bout of zooms from her. She has a really strong need to chew on stuff, and it's both a pain in the ass because if she can't get away and chew throughout the day she gets restless and jaw snappy but it's also a great stress reliever. Sucks that the programmers thought it would be funny if she howled at the moon but forgot that they had an animatronic that looked like the moon. She has to go against her programming every time she sees Moon. She can get by with Sunny, but Moon is hard. Which is a shame because she really likes Moon! They're friends! Moon calls her in to help find missing items in the daycare sometimes and they both get a kick out of hiding fake spiders in Monty's room but sometimes it's so damn hard not to howl her ass off at them to the point she will physically hold her mouth shut sometimes. It sucks
I have more to say about her but this? Is a long ass post. This'll do.
