I miss early part 2 vibes so much, i miss asa pov in general. I mean, i wouldn't have got this far if i didn't like denji as a protagonist, but right now he only reacts at his surroundings with confussion but no further questioning, which it kinda sucks bc in part 1 we still could see his thought process/inner talk even if things went wild. Idk if this is intentional to highlight the different between asa and denji by nerfing him (that would be attrocious and i doubt fjmt would disgrace his self insert like this) or is part of his character regression into "ignorance is bliss" again. At least I want him to make more expressions that "huhhh??!!" for ex when nayuta talked so creppy about the end of the world or barem refering to her as the former makima, does he fear he failed to raise nayuta into a lovable child? that does not makes him feel smth at least? Or how the world have bastardized his identity and stripped him from any possibility to transform and feel validated again? It's frustating. That's why i think i miss asa in the spotlight, she's so reflective and meticulous on his actions adding to the mix the contrast of opinions she always has with yoru who lives in her head 24/7, asa always has something to add even if she doesn't intent to.

I dont ask for denji to be like asa i want him to let us know what he thinks about what is happening right now, and in the best case scenario to take action abt it

i think what i still prefer about naruto compared to most other super popular shounen and why it stuck with me is that its villains are human. they aren't supernatural beings with incomprehensible evil motives and aims! their reasoning can be traced to history and the systemic failures of the shinobi world. kishimoto is a poor plotter & eventually chickened out bc it got too complicated, but i still think in its essence naruto felt more impactful bc of this - most of the bad stuff that happens is directly caused by structural injustice and the inherently violent nature of shinobi society. while the tailed beasts, alien and dangerous, are arguably also villains, the tragedy they cause results more often than not from humans using their power for destruction. this is ultimately why the war arc and the ending with the deus ex machina -esque introduction of zetsu and kaguya is so disappointing; the series really did have something to say in its conception about the cycles of violence, the various consequences of war, and what society organized around army/police states results in, but all this is thrown out the window in favor of hand-wavey explanations excusing the characters' actions with fate and divine plans. in this essay
