interesting how in this chapter denji "breaks the cycle" by taking away his hand from asa, as an antiparallel to falling devil arc: denji reaches for asa emotionally, they don't stop holding hands the entire time -> asa reaches for denji but he won't let her touch him.

I can definitely see the vision that Yoshida's perse Denji's personal arc and relationship can be read as the queer closeted experience too as some people have pointed out in these past chapters. Both who share the same feelings of disconnection with their environment, in addition to an inherited social ineptitude and naivety about what it really means to be normal, in which they assume that the origin of their frustration and sadness comes from their weirdness and not from the rejection that the same scheme who ignored them now inflicts on them. This uncertainty of knowing that, despite the fact that you are doing what the manual says, what the majority does, you still do not get the same results of satisfaction and personal fulfillment that everyone gets, is what increases this frustration and pilled anger against their surroundings and against each other; Yoshida has faith that this is the path to take, that the results are guaranteed by logic so tries to persuade Denji to trust on his good intentions, while Denji is submerged in an existential crisis from said normality that feels more transgressive than comforting, even though he already has what he wished for and maybe what Yoshida envy of him. Them forcing each other to do things they both know it won't make them feel any different from the usual apathy and sense of losing themselves in the progress with so little reward such as doing the expected of their asigned gender roles (men always wants girls, always wants sex) for example, only increasing their solitude as a result.

Like, we all know the obvious, that all of this comes from their respective backgrounds and duties, Denji as the extremely poor orphan kid forced into child-labor and, taking Yoshida's subtle wording, it makes you think he's not so different from him, like a child soldier raised by the state similar to Makima and Reze. These feelings of the uncomfortable normality that secures your place as the "social failure" despite your desperate attempts to prove yourself to be worthy of acceptance, are very common around a lot of groups incluiding the one mentioned on here, as on top of that is so valid to take in consideration the not so-subtle tension (and poor tasted jokes), misunderstanding but at the same time complicity between Yoshida and Denji makes this interpretation really interesting, to me.

This may be one of the best chapters so far. Mami's character address so realisticly a issue that girls (all girls) face when it comes to establish platonic relationships with men, a unspoked "life rule" that says friendship between men and women can't exists, one of them is plotting something- as Masumi said. Mami resonated with me a lot because one part of the reason I am nb is because I've struggle with gender roles my entire life, and one of them is this. I want people to see me for a person first, my gender and clothes are accesories of who I truly am, I want to connect with people beyond this body that erodes everyday and will eventually dissapear. You can say all things about this toxic troglodyte mindset but at the end of the day it's just another way in which we isolated ourselves because we are view as a trade object: you give I receive, you are kind = you must want something from me; either loved or hated, never accepted for what it is. I lost so many valuable guy friends in the past because they saw me as "an opportunity" for romance or hit, and I can't deny I didn't feel betrayed and stupid. So when my current guy friends call me by "homie/bro/my g" etc. I feel happy too. It's the first time I've seen a manga address this issue, I'm glad.

#won't write a story time so i will give the short version #last night i went to a bday party with my friends and one of them basically confessed to me between jokes #i was drunk too but i'm 100% sure i rejected him the best i could #it hurt my feelings bad bc i really cherished our friendship #even when i give 0 hints for smth else bc i'm lowkey asexual/low libido and friendship to me is like the highest form of love #a friend is a friend forever and that's enough. anyways #for the rest of the night he was so clingy and irritating to me i hate being touched and didn't feel secure around em anymore #after i few more things i run to my ex place nearby bc i wanted this dude to leave me the fuck alone #(we're in good terms he read the mood and let me sleep on his place) #and that's it. my dream was basically that. and i woke up sad again
