All is fair in love and war 🦝💜 🏴‍☠️
A most necessary study over the cover of Jessie Dumont's I Prefer Girls, painted by Robert Maguire around 1963, with cleary zero amount of drama. @ndostairlyrium sent the picture over and I couldn't say no with who else than the most dramatic trash raccoon of Kirkwall?

Dragon Age Femslash Recs!
Happy Femslash February! I got thrown off the rec wagon the past couple months for Life Reasons but I'm back and I've got a whole pile for you.
Ordered from shortest to longest. If there are other ships, I have noted those as well. Ratings and major warnings are listed; as always, please check AO3 for the full tag list.
These Moments Given by Mytha. Cassandra/Leliana, 1200 words, rated T. The Left and Right Hand take comfort in one another after the explosion at the Conclave. This fic really brings to life the terrible events we don't see in the game.
Vulnerability by @ziskandra. Isabela/Female Hawke, 1200 words, rated E. Hawke and Isabela deal with the aftermath of the Qunari invasion in their own way. I love how this explores Hawke's insecurities and fear of losing those she loves, lots of complicated emotions and uncertainties.
Right Hand by @ziskandra. Female Trevelyan/Cassandra, 1400 words, rated T. The Inquisitor works to adjust to her disability and a new role at the side of the Divine. I like the way it explores some complicated feelings on the part of Trevelyan about ability and agency.
Coin Tricks by @chocochipbiscuit. Isabela/Merrill, 2200 words, rated G. Merrill and Isabela talk about luck, carrying it with you and making your own. Choco writes both characters and their dynamic so, so well and it's a delight to read.
Arcane Deflection by @settiai. Harding/Dagna, 2600 words, rated T. This charming fic explores a growing relationship between Harding and Dagna while also digging into Harding's inner life and experiences in the Inquisition in ways I love.
Aeducan Pride by Cartadwarfwithaheartofgold. Rica/Female Aeducan, Rica/Bhelan, 2900 words, rated M. Warnings: Unhealthy relationships, power differences, dubious consent. Sereda Aeducan takes everything from her brother: the crown, his son, his plans, and finally, his wife. My favorite thing about this fic is Rica, her cunning and shrewdness and her focus on keeping herself and her son alive, and I also really enjoyed how a conniving and manipulative Sereda not only keeps Rica close but gains her affections as well.
Close at Hand, Friend and Foe by Cryptographic_Delurk. Anora/Cauthrien, 3000 words, rated T. A sharp and incisive character study Anora as well a story as two very different women fleeing the kingdom that has cast them aside. I really enjoyed the tension between Anora and Cauthrien as they struggle to find common ground.
bound up by your thread by @chocochipbiscuit. Isabela/Female Hawke, 3400 words, rated E. Some good old bondage, an old favorite of mine! and Hawke not having to make decisions just for a little while.
Birdsong by @montpahrnah. Isabela/Female Hawke, 6000 words, rated M. Warnings: Major Character Death. Isabela struggles to come to terms with Hawke's death in the Fade. An incredible, moving exploration of grief I'm not ashamed to say I ugly-cried my way through.
Her Beacon and Her Shield by Sheeana. Female Cousland/Anora, 8500 words, rated T. Political marriage to lovers, a trope I adore! I loved watching Anora and Elissa's foundational respect for one another as allies progress to fondness and affection. A bittersweet conclusion, yet with a sense of hope.
Dinner Time series by @fireferns. Dalish/Skinner, six short fics totalling 18000 words, ratings G through E. I love the author's prose style, and the loving attention to both these minor characters, developing their personalities and backstories; a truly wonderful read.
Happy Femslash February, friends, and happy reading! 💜

Summary:
Aria Hawke has kept her magic secret throughout her life in Lothering. Since the death of her father four years ago, she has been wracked with guilt and shame, which has been amplified by her family. Now, after the battle of Ostagar, she travels to Kirkwall, one of the most dangerous places in Thedas for an apostate mage. While there, she finds a sense of place and belonging, all while the world keeps crumbling down around her.
This multi-chapter fic follows Hawke's flight from Lothering through the events of the game, adding scenes and fleshing out dialogue.
Excerpt:
“Miss me, sister?” Carver asked wryly, and Hawke released the mana.
“Carver!” Leandra practically shrieked, running and throwing her arms around Carver’s neck.
“You made it.” Relief coloured Hawke’s tone.
“Of course I did.” Carver replied arrogantly, his eyes narrowing in anger.
“What’s going on?” Bethany asked sleepily from the doorway, rubbing the sleep from her hazel eyes. “Carver?”
It was all the warning he had before Bethany had wrapped herself around him as well. Leandra traced the lines of Carver’s face, checking him for wounds. Bethany snuggled into her twin’s chest, and his expression shifted from Hawke, softening. Hawke remained stock still, feeling like an intruder; as if it was she who had barreled through the door and not her brother. To disguise her feelings, she studied Carver. It had only been six months since he left to join the King’s army, and he still had the youthful boyish charm that had sent several village girls chasing after him. Dark hair cropped shorter than she remembered highlighted his high cheekbones. He was still her little brother, but there was something more hollowed out about him – as if what he had experienced in these past months had harrowed him. It was not so different than the expression that Hawke saw in her own expression since their father had died.
Thanks for reading! Reblogs are always appreciated <3

Dragon age Older isabela x male mage reader
Reader is the brother of female hawke Reader is introverted and quite making people overlook him in favour of his sister except for isabela she sees how he hides his intelligence and power she likes to tease him ruthlessly one day when they get back to the hawke house they catch hawke in bed with the women reader had been dating leading to a massive argument between reader and hawke before it can lead to a fight isabela gets reader out of there and they leave kirkwall to travel eventually returning a few years later married and with twin children to see their friends and everything is going well till hawke shows up and the air gets static because of readers magic and they argue because hawke refuses to apologise leading to isabela getting them out of there later that night isabela and reader fluff and smut.
Reader was a virgin before isabela something she likes to tease about but won't let anyone else do especially hawke
Reader uses the staff and clothing from the destiny trailer with isabela being the one to teach him to fight without depending on magic alone
Reader is between 19 - 22 at the start and Isabela is between 26 - 30 at the start
Alright I will write it

Ann! It's Friday! For the pairing of your choice, how about “If it weren’t for you, I may have lived my whole life thinking I was happy. But now I know the truth.”
Here's some female!Hawke x Isabela for @dadrunkwriting!
Isabela found her staring out the window towards the sea. Marian did that a lot these days, stare out to sea with her forehead pressed against the thick windowpane and her eyes searching for ghosts. Today was another one of those days (or nights), and Isabela carefully shut the door behind her before she slowly approached the window and Marian. It was one of those wistful moods again, Isabela thought as she clambered up onto the window seat across from Marian and waited for her love to speak. Isabela drew on her patience and steely resolve and waited. Marian Hawke was as wild and changeable as the sea, but Isabela endured far worse squalls and storms.
"Varric said to keep your head low for another month. Apparently you make people nervous," Isabela finally said. Marian snorted and pulled away from the window to face her. Her face was lined with exhaustion, and her smile could only be called bitter.
"I make people nervous when I breathe," Marian retorted. She stretched her legs out in front of her, until her knees knocked up against Isabela's as they shared the window seat. Marian leaned against the window, her dark hair falling into her exhausted eyes, and she... stared. Just stared, as if she was waiting for some disaster but was too tired to be apprehensive anymore.
"Part of the infamy, Marian love," Isabela said. "I'd say you get used to it, but..." She trailed off, her eyes tracing Marian's features and committing them to her memory. Sometimes Isabela wondered how Marian Hawke's life might have fared had she not come to Kirkwall, had she not run into Varric, had she not met her- perhaps then, Marian might have had a simpler life, an easier life.
"Well. At least you'll always be unconventional," she offered. "That's something. Better than nothing at all, at any rate." It was a poor comfort, Isabela knew it, but Marian's smile softened, the sun breaking through the storm clouds at last.
"If it weren't for you, I may have lived my whole life thinking I was happy. But now I know the truth," she murmured.
"And what's that, exactly?"
"I'm much happier being an oddity than being a proper noblewoman," Marian said with a sharp laugh, and she nudged Isabela's leg with her foot. "And I'm much happier with you by my side."

I'll be the figurehead On your ship's bow I'll be the last glimpse of a topsail As we go down I'll be waiting on the seabed Repeating the words Don't forget (you said), ships were not built to be safe.
On Board - Alana Henderson, Joshua Burnside
Some Hawkebela content for you all, there are sea wolves and also sea raccoons, now. (In case you can't decipher my writing: "You should get on board / With someone whose course is steadier than mine" "Tie up those lines / 'Cause I shot the albatross / And I will swim across")
(thank you @shivunin for the hint to the indeed perfect song for this ship and @ndostairlyrium for a meaningful hint and listening me whining about it)

Isabela is outrageous. Always laughing, the sound of it carrying on the wind, there and then gone before Hawke even notices she’s there - and quick, tongue quicker than her blades.
That’s the first thing Hawke notices, her smile. And then the lilt of her voice, always just a little amused, but the strength of her stance and the way her hands stray to her daggers often when she walks into a crowded room. That coiledness is so often in the others - Anders has the twitchiness of an apostate; Fenris pretends to be calm but looks over his shoulder too often; Aveline is always two hands’-lengths from her shield - but Isabela seems self-aware, wry about it. Only Varric can catch Hawke looking, wink at her, and make her laugh in the same way. Isabela walks into a room and quietly lights it up, just a corner of it, and by the time you look back and realise that the world is a little quieter, a little darker, she’s already long gone.
And yes, Hawke notices Isabela’s strong muscled thighs and the curve of her breasts, because Isabela doesn’t seem to mind her noticing and is also beautiful - but she also notices the elegant, scarred hands. There are stories on Isabela’s knuckles: old, pale scars. Older marks at her wrists. Isabela goes quiet when she’s asked about her family; says something outrageous, or - more often than she pretends - asks Hawke how her own people are doing, with frequent, horrifying jokes in the conversation but something wistful in her eyes.
Those eyes.
The first time they met, Hawke thought she’d hate her. They’re both matter-of-fact, Hawke and Isabela, but Hawke is Fereldan; abashed is a national state of mind. She smooths things over with platitudes and apologies and feels, always, clumsy. And a knife at a throat? That’s last resort, not second. But something made her pause - something other than Varric vouching for the drunk pirate who’d just cleared out half the bar.
A week later, and when Hawke was trying not to reach for her staff and desperately wishing Varric were here, Isabela defused a fight with a joke and an offer of a drink. There was something soft behind the wryness, another kind of uptilt. Trust me, you don’t want to do this. We could be drinking, for a start! Something made two desperate Fereldan refugees believe her; made them get bought a pint, stand Hawke for one, and sheepishly apologise.
A laugh was a vulnerable point: an easy way to have the element of surprise. You could put a knife in someone’s throat before they’d finished it. Flames, she'd seen Isabela do it. And this time, Isabela used it to swiftly relieve them of their weapons, and then sat back down and raised a tankard.
Trust me. Hawke tilted her head, and thought she might be starting to understand why.
