No Man Left Behind / Something Worth Dying For
REQUESTS / BLOG EVENT
Request from @razzbberry - Palette #1 - Alpha-17, Cody - Death of the Cynic in Me
Notes and close-ups beneath the cut!
Notes: I think Seventeen would, both subconsciously and consciously, keep his cynicism as long as possible. It’s how he thinks the world works, but it’s also a survival tool. It’d be a very, very slow death.
It’s put to the test with Cody — not because Cody is special among his fellow clones, but because he’s one of the first that bothers to fight Seventeen on his own terms. The argument is always the same. Cody wants to talk about what he hopes to be, someday, after he is a soldier. Seventeen thinks he’s stupid to think that’s possible, or that he’d be capable. Cody knows it, and he, might not be. Seventeen thinks it’s even more stupid, in that case; what a waste of energy.
It develops. When they’re older, and in the thick of war, one day Cody risks his life for the chance to save a brother that was going to die anyway. Seventeen yells at him for fifteen minutes once he’s conscious about luck and stupidity and the trouble it’s causing Seventeen and the false hope it’s engendering in others. Cody says he can disagree all he likes, but he doesn’t give a fig, respectfully. Seventeen thinks Cody can go try to get blown up again, if he thinks so.
There’s no point fighting for a better tomorrow; they’re bought and paid for to fight for something else, FOR someone else. Seventeen is prepared for being fodder, as a result. He’s prepared for unfairness and the bleak life that they’re living. Instead he watches as Cody defeats odds time and time again, somehow managing to balance being an exceptional military leader with a secondary war to live for something more, running himself ragged and — inexplicably — gaining ground. Each of those little victories are a little death for Seventeen’s cynicism; a chipping away. A little seed of Cody’s brand of hope takes root, awkward and begrudging, fond and tentative.
Then Order 66 happens. Cody’s efforts for a better life are in vain, and Cody himself-
Cody may never know that Seventeen was right abut just how helpless they were. Now he only knows that Seventeen is a traitor, apparently, because Seventeen — for once in his life — was the lucky one and his chip malfunctioned.
And Seventeen could say ‘I told you so’. He could rest, vindicated and resigned, in the fact that every dream Cody built up and everything he thought was worth dying for is pointless, now — as he always suspected it would be.
But it isn’t fair, even by Seventeen’s standards.
“What are you doing,” Rex will rasp, caught in a strange role reversal as Seventeen paints an armor set with Cody’s golden colors. “He’s not coming back, Seventeen. He can’t. It’s pointless to keep going after him, you need to stop.”
“No,” Seventeen will answer, unbothered, “I don’t think I will.”
“We can’t — we can’t keep hoping,” Rex says, because he means he will probably have a breakdown if he imagines there is even a pitiful possibility he could save his brothers and then have to turn away from that scrappy chance for the greater good and Rebellion, and all that. “We’ve got to move on.”
“Go on.” Seventeen will invite sincerely, one brow raised because he knows Rex better than that.
“Do you want him to shoot you?” Rex will finally yell, all knotted up at the thought of losing Seventeen too, even though it’s funny because Seventeen was never kind to Rex.
“He can try,” Seventeen will say, touching up the last of the paint. He will stand, wiping his fingers, and pick up his pack. “See you when we get back, then.”

We mentioned this on the date announcement, but the Eris Week prompt suggestion form is open! For those of you new to fandom events, prompts are used as "themes" for each day of an event week, and are meant to provide inspiration for what to make for each day. They are optional, but still a fun part of the event.
Ex. Last year we had Hounds as a prompt, and folks created art, writing, and interactive narratives featuring Eris and his dogs!
This is a community event, so we want the community to play an active role in determining parts of the event!
Suggest Prompts Here
The form does not collect your email.
You can submit the form as many time as your heart desires.
The form closes on March 16th, 2024
Prompts will be posted March 19th, 2024

Announcing Feyre Week 2024 Prompts!
Tumblr media
art by: niruskyart (twt)
Hello everyone! Thank you so much for your patience and waiting as we came up with our prompts for Feyre week 2024! We were sad that there was no Feyre week in 2023 so to make up for it we are making a super-week and offering two prompts a day!
All prompts are completely option and there is ZERO obligation or requirement to do both prompts each day or to follow any prompts super strictly. Please feel free to pick whichever prompt you prefer on any given day you're participating! You may all follow the prompts as loosely or closely as you desire!
Look below for a little blurb about each prompt and some questions to get you thinking!
Monday 3/18:
Lady of Many Faces: As our lady of many faces Feyre has numerous parts of her personality. She's a mother, a high lady, a friend, a sister. She's cunning, kind, mean, thoughtful, nosy, and all sorts of things! How would you like to explore the different facets of Feyre Archeron? What sides of her character do you think could be further explored, or should have been explored?
Immortal With a Mortal Heart: As a Made being who was born human, Feyre may be one with this magical, faerie world, but at her core her heart will always be human. Does she struggle with this? How does her humanity impact her outlook on life and her interactions with others? In 1000 years will her heart still be mortal, or will she lose that part of her?
Tuesday 3/19:
Starfall: What kind of Feyre week would we be without the obligatory Starfall day? Starfall is one of the most beloved scenes from Feyre's journey and signaled a great change in her life! Does Feyre come up with any new traditions for Starfall? How does she celebrate it with Nyx? As of ACOSF, both of her sisters will now be celebrating with her from now on, does she do anything special with them?
New Beginnings: Today (March 19th) is the spring equinox in the Northern hemisphere, and one of the main reasons we chose these dates for our week! There's some speculation that Starfall takes place around this time in the books, and we wanted to honor that. As the frost melts and the seasons change new life blooms for us and for our beloved Feyre. What were Feyre's new beginnings like? How has her life changed? What was it like for her to wake up from her depressive winter "slumber" and come into herself? How has she changed over the course of the series?
Wednesday 3/20:
Cursebreaker: Feyre is the cursebreaker who freed the land from 50 years of suffering. What is having this title like for her? Is it burdensome? Do you think we'll see her breaking any curses in the future? "Cursebreaker" also has quite the intense meaning in the series, how does Feyre feel about that? How could her cursebreaking be explored further?
First of Her Kind: Feyre has done a lot of firsts throughout the series! She is the first to be made as she was. She's the first to come back from the dead bearing the powers of 7 high lords. She is the first High Lady and the first to survive looking into the Ourobouros. Are there any more iconic firsts Feyre will explore? How far can she go?
Thursday 3/21:
Childhood: We know a few scarce details about Feyre's childhood that have been scattered through the books. What more do you wish we knew? What do you imagine her childhood to be like that perhaps wasn't stated in the books? Is there anything you wish happened? How did Feyre interact with people before they fell into poverty? Did she have any interactions with her mother? What about after poverty?
Found Family: Feyre has found a family for herself through the Court of Dreams that is different than the one she was born to. Does she have any special traditions with them? Are there aspects of her relationship with them you wish were added? What's Feyre's domestic life like? How will her relationship with her family grow and change?
Friday 3/22:
AU: What would Feyre be like in alternate universes? What would Feyre look like in our world, another fantasy world, a video game? Anything Feyre AU! There are a million different ways we can imagine Feyre.
Theories: Do you have any Feyre theories, or just theories you really like? Share them with us! What would it be like if those theories were true? What do you imagine for Feyre in future books?
Saturday 3/23:
Warrior: From slaying the Middengard Wyrm to training with Cassian to defending the Rainbow all the way to fighting in the Summer Court with Morrigan, Feyre is a warrior and a fighter. How can we explore this? Does she learn any new fighting styles, or will there possibly be a battle she's needed in?
Jack of all trades: Feyre has many skills and hobbies! She paints, teaches, reads. She's passionate about trade and her work as High Lady. She's redone the entire Night Court budget and was vital in the development of the treaty with Vallahan! She posesses many different skills! Is there any skill you think she's good at or would have that's not explicitly in the books? Do you see her trying to learn anything new? How will she continue growing as a painter? As a teacher? As a High Lady?
Sunday 3/24: FREE DAY!
Reminder, there is no obligation to do both prompts or hit both prompts in your post! Your post does not have to even match the prompts at all. All prompts are there to stimulate your thinking about Feyre and provide options for things you could possibly create!
Let us know if you have any questions!

February 2024 starsignchaser Fic Recs!
Welcome back to everyones favorite time of the month; Where I tell you all the favorite things I read on AO3 in the last few weeks! I will admit, I took a step back into reading in other fandoms and also I spent half the month traveling so I didn't have a ton of time to read, unfortunately. Sorry! March will be better (maybe...) Anyway, let's get into it!
Jegulus
Baby, now my head is on backwards by messymoony (6k, rated E)
James has had a bad day at work. Regulus makes him feel better. t4t jegulus you have my heart!!
Meet on Telegraph Avenue by ani_wahstan (34.6k, rater E, features wolfstar!)
James Potter was doing his best not to defile his roommate's younger brother because Sirius told him to “keep his slutty hands off of Regulus or else," but finds himself unable to keep the promise.
my favorite jegulus fic of the month, you can just tell this is a labor of love from the author. I also really really loved the inclusion of so many different songs from the time period of the fic!
second chances by introvertedhufflepuff (34k, 10/10, rated M)
when Regulus is hit with a rogue spell that sends him back to a 6-year-old, Sirius is forced to face their adversities and grow past their animosity.
not only Jegulus but some v good Black Brothers Angst. this fic fits v well in my headcannon of who reg was as a child and I love getting to see Sirius of the "present" interact with little reg of the "past"
Perfect Little Life by CRAmber (6.5k, 5/5, rated E)
Just a collection of snapshots from the life of Jegulus raising Harry and being hot and in love.
I suffer from a terminal case of jeggy dads brainrot </3
Drarry
The Vault by erlasart (comic, 2/2, rated M)
Harry is out for an evening walk when he sees Draco Malfoy disappearing into a seemingly abandoned building. Harry, of course, has to investigate.
I have been absolutely loving comic fics recently, I love seeing the art and the story work together and this one is really good!!!
No Place Like Home by dracogotgame (4k, rated G)
James Sirius has been at Hogwarts for exactly one day, and he knows he doesn't belong. All he wants is to go home. A late night Floo call fixes everything.
drarry dads <333
papa says harry potter helps people by jilliancares (10k, rated E)
Draco Malfoy is reintroduced into Harry's life when a little boy enters his shop, lost. The same little boy upends all his bookshelves, which Draco holds himself responsible for. It all kind of escalates from there.
Scorpius bringing these two dummys together <3
together we wait for silence by ashes_and_ashes (23.6k, rated T)
the combined swimming/road trip au that no one ever asked for and yet is now here
My fave drarry of the month!!! I LOVE fics like this with a somewhat nonlinear timeline and so much unspoken angst and UGH I just really really really loved this fic.

year in review
2023 is on its way out, and it's been... a year. First full year that I've actually been active on social media (i.e. not just lurking), and first time in fandom.
My first fic of the year? when her edges soften – the longer I wrote for Valentine and the more her relationship with Johnny got weird and intimate and full of casual innuendo the more I needed to write something where they were reunited. Also my first ever experience writing smut and self-indulgently adding a whole fencing scene. Goddamn that was fun! Feels like it's older than a year.
My favorite fic of the year? thread-safe – I became engrossed with cyberpunk because of Jackie but I imprinted hard on Takemura after that traumatic heist mission and perhaps the rest is history. Valentine's story has had a lot of tinkering and reworking and it was the thing that got me back into writing, but the original story in my head was something bittersweet and angry and grieving, one night only no encores, parting badly– and I finally was able to capture that in thread-safe and it feels so good.
Most fun experiments?? There are several of these. When I got stuck and discouraged and tired of working on the longfic and plotting things out I ended up working out a "shenanigans au" (fleeting fits of reason) where I could put Johnny and Kerry and V (and Alt and Rogue it turns out) together and just have them interact without plot. Well the plot crept in, but writing some loosely connected 1-1.5k pieces focused on a single scene or idea with minimal polish was incredibly freeing. Then I recorded some of my own podfic! I wrote a chapter of thread-safe in second-person! I wrote imago and decided to incorporate pieces of it into my longfic. Playing around like this has really kept writing fun for me when I don't have the concentration to play the long game.
Additional musings and personal reflections under the cut:
2023 the year sucked ass. It has been god awful. Just the fucking worst! Cyberhanami was in February? March? I remember finishing up some of my prompts that week while I was in another state with friends who were out and about while I was in bed too nauseated and weak to move. Writing was the only thing keeping me from going insane. My health has been shoddy, I had to cancel a much anticipated two weeks of international travel, spent at least two week long periods this year with anxiety so intense it made me almost physically incapable of eating. I had an incredibly expensive panic attack, and the world... things have been better!
I find it difficult to be honest about that sort of thing– my primary instinct is Not To Talk About any of that shit, because well... it's personal! And I handle reassurance about as well as I handle compliments (awkwardly. half in panic. friendly self-deprecation). But it feels disingenuous to celebrate accomplishments without acknowledging the yawning abyss we all struggle with from time to time. I remain cynically optimistic, as always, and I'm seriously grateful for all the connections and shared art and braincells and excitable messages, especially from folks tolerating my tendency to ramble onto tangents and use an oddly formal tone. I don't know what I'm doing, but who does? It comes easier with practice. It has to, right?
See you cool cats in 2024. :3 😼

Can we talk about Art growth for a sec?
Tumblr media
Sept 2017 and one of the first posts on this account
Tumblr media
Aug 2018
Tumblr media
July 2019 and my first ever paid commission
Tumblr media
March 2020
Tumblr media
May 2021 and I'm starting to figure out armour
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feb 2022 - Oct 2022 (time between OG and redraw ~6 months)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Aug 2022 - Oct 2023 (time between OG and redraw ~1 year) and honestly one of the most bonkers art growth spurts I've ever SEEN. I used Tye and Gabe for anatomy and character interaction practice and I thing they were the beginning of my genuine growth because i started using references more for pose practice
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nov 2023 and the start of my BG3/ DND era. More character interaction practice and I'm playing with style
Tumblr media
Dec 2023 and I'm figuring out armour and weapons again!
Tumblr media
Jan 2024 (literally last week) and one of my fav pieces I've done of them. Every time I draw them I work on getting Rolan's features more accurate. The bump in his nose, the curve of his horns, the way his hair curls around his ear. I've started using references more again.
Tumblr media
And finally
Jan 2024 (WIP of something I'm currently working on) And these don't even show how much my shading has improved.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Between these 2 drawings is about 7 fucking years.
It is so CRAZY how your art improves in that amount of time!! 1 year to even just a few months of working you can already see a difference but holy SHIT.
I find that the most growth is found when you draw a lot of the same thing. The year of my super hyperfixation on my OCs Tye and Gabe and the past few months of drawing BG3 fanart is where the biggest spikes are.
Who knew that when the pros say "never stop drawing. practice practice practice" they actually meant it. Lmao

Weekly Update March 15, 2024
Something is wrong with me today, but I’m not sure what. I’m keeping an eye on what I suspect it may be, although it’s more likely a sleep related problem. I’ll try to get to bed early tonight. I did a good amount of artstuffs this week, though.
First real significant thing I did this week was record a bunch of melodies for songs and covers. I’m getting somewhere on the main cover I’m working on, and I’ll be tweaking the vocals hopefully soon and possibly posting a WIP once they’re acceptable. I think I will need to chop up the wav file and add effects only to specific notes to add more bite, since vocaloid seems to not really be able to do that. That’s fine I’m a smart person sometimes I can get around it.
Other instrumental songs are going well too. Made good progress on an old Zelda medley/cover I’d been working on, and another instrumental character theme has a good outline. I’ll try to really push for them soon, and once I get the Zelda one done I’ll poke at mechanical license websites to see how bad pricing is and see what songs are even available. The vocal cover should be, since it’s from a mainstream band, but I don’t know if video game music will be available, we’ll see. I might also go in for more recording tonight to see if a bit of movement/exercise would help whatever physical problem I’m having today.
I also have been having awful insomnia, which I’ve been using the time to try chipping away at lyrics for the two ‘vocal’ songs I’m done with otherwise. I’m sitting down and doing one section per session, so with any luck I can get those done soon too.
Drawings are also going well enough. I’m getting weirdly self conscious about my art, since I haven’t really seen a lot of growth in interaction on any of the sites I post to except here. Thank you guys for sticking with me! I’m trying to pull myself together to do more small drawings, so you guys have a bit more to look at for now, although I also have been chipping away at that comic still. I need to write/thumbnail 2 more scenes and edit, then I should be good to make actual pages.
Aside from the initial pitch comic I’m thinking about the outlines for the rest of the stories a bit more now. I get anxious when I get insomnia so I’ve been trying to just write in general, so I can at least be productive with the time, and that’s included lyric stuff, TTRPG stuff, and a lot of OC story stuff. I’m always afraid to lore dump on here unless I’m explicitly asked, for fear of coming off as annoying, but all things considered people seem to like the posts that include lore a bit better so my fear is probably unfounded. Perhaps I will do more on my own, but if you ever really want lore never be afraid to send an ask. I also tag the names of my reoccurring OCs so people can search my blog for them if they want to see more of any specific character.
Also speaking of writing, am still chipping away at an Anime Campaign/Epithet TTRPG game. I put up a poll on the epithet subreddit, which was a cleverly disguised way to gauge interest in an epithet pre-written campaign, since people are more likely to interact with a poll than to upvote a post. There were fourty something people who responded, almost unanimously positively. I might throw another one up there to see how many would actually be interested in DMing, but if feedback comes back positive I might turn what I’ve been working on into a prewritten module for others to run as well. That’d also be a fun writing project, which will be nice because writing is lower effort and lets me rest more, and rest is what I think I need right now.
Good amount of stuff got done this week despite me being in generally poor health. I will try to get better. Focusing on more writing stuff with smaller drawings like headshots will try to be the focus for next week.

KUNG FU PANDA 4 (2024)
Featuring the voices of Jack Black, Awkwafina, Viola Davis, Dustin Hoffman, James Hong, Bryan Cranston, Ian McShane, Ke Huy Quan, Lori Tan Chinn, Ronny Chieng, Seth Rogen, James Murray, James Sie, Cedric Yarbrough, Vic Chao, Audrey Brooke, Lincoln Nakamura, Cece Valentina, April Hong   , Suzanne Buirgy, Logan Kim, Reyn Doi, Mick Wingert and MrBeast.
Screenplay by Jonathan Aibel & Glenn Berger and Darren Lemke.
Directed by Mike Mitchell.
Distributed by Universal Pictures. 94 minutes. Rated PG.
When walking into another sequel from a long running movie franchise, I try to hold a certain expectation. Usually the expectation is that a new unforeseen villain just appears without much rhythm or reason. There have not been many times that I have seen this pulled off in a way that is cohesive to the overarching story. However, I was pleasantly surprised this week by the newest chapter in the Kung Fu Panda series. While I have a couple of notes of things I would like to have seen done differently, I found the concepts interesting.
The newest villain, The Chameleon (Viola Davis), was wonderful from a design standpoint, but unfortunately bland from a characteristic standpoint. I had hoped to see more of a story or motive behind her actions. In the film it was stated that she was rejected by mentors, and she grew bitter from that as a result.
What the villain lacked in a strong motive; she made up for in plan execution. Personally, I was excited to see the former villains of the past movies brought back for this story. As this movie served as the passing of the torch in our main character Po's (Jack Black) journey, it was fulfilling to see him display his growth for his past foes. I especially was glad to see the role of Tai Lung being reprised by Ian McShane.
With this being said, I wished that there was more interaction between Po and Tai Lung. The rivalry they had in the first movie was memorable enough for me to suddenly think about it, even after not having seen a movie from this franchise for a very long time. Considering that Tai Lung's exit from the movie was the moment that he gave Po his respect, I hoped that it would have been more sincere than it came across.
This goes for the entire final battle of the movie as well. The concept of bringing back the spirits of the past villains could have made an incredible battle sequence that tied up loose ends between our hero and his former foes. Since Po has truly embodied the importance of forgiveness and striving to do the right thing, it would have been a great moment of character growth for him to make up with the villains he once fought.
However, despite the faults in the story's execution, this was a nice watch. I thoroughly enjoyed the art style and performances given by the cast. Overall this was another high-quality movie from DreamWorks, and I look forward to the next chapter.

FAQ
What kind of event is Manwë Week?
Manwë Week is a week-long fandom event dedicated to Manwë Súlimo from J.R.R. Tolkien’s Silmarillion. Time to make our way to Taniquetil and celebrate the King of the Valar!
When is Manwë Week?
Súlimë (March) 11th - 17th 2024.
How do I participate?
No sign-ups are required for this event.
You can create all sorts of fanworks, be it art (digital or traditional), fanfiction, moodboards, headcanons, playlists – whatever you like! Be sure to tag this blog (@manweweek) when you post and put “manwe week” or “manweweek” in the first 20 tags.
Do I have to participate every day?
No. You can create as many fanworks for as many days as you like. Interacting with and sharing the fanworks of others is also highly encouraged and appreciated!
Are there prompts and do I have to use them?
Yes, there is a prompt list, but you are not required to follow these prompts. They are mostly there for inspiration.
Can I feature other characters as well?
Yes, you are welcome to feature other characters (OCs included) alongside Manwë in your fanworks and explore all sorts of dynamics and relationships, but always keep in mind that this is Manwë Week so he should be one of the primarily featured characters.
Can I post NSFW, dark themes, dead dove, etc.?
Yes, but please always tag your posts accordingly and put works featuring these themes under a cut so those who don’t wish to interact can opt out.
If you are concerned about Tumblr flagging and/or deleting your work, we recommend hosting the fanwork on another site (for example AO3) and making a post linking to it.
Can I post in-progress works? What about late submissions?
Yes, you can post WIPs/unfinished works too. If you finish your work after Manwë Week has concluded and would like to post it then, you can also do that – we will be sharing late submissions too.
Why has my contribution not been reblogged?
If you feel like your contribution may have been missed, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Depending on how many submissions we receive, it may take a while for everything to be shared, but it’s always possible that we haven’t seen it yet.
General code of conduct:
Please be kind and respectful and leave any drama or feuds at the door.
Don’t like, don’t read/view/interact.
Respect different takes and interpretations of characters. No ship hate.
No reposting of other people’s works without their explicit permission.
Any sort of bigoted behaviour or promoting of bigoted ideas (sexism, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc.) is not welcome.
Violation of these rules will result in you getting blocked.
I have further questions!
Feel free to send an ask or DM!
