Managing User Focus with :focus-visible
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/managing-user-focus-with-focus-visible/
Managing User Focus with :focus-visible
This is going to be the 2nd post in a small series we are doing on form accessibility. If you missed the first post, check out Accessible Forms with Pseudo Classes. In this post we are going to look at :focus-visible and how to use it in your web sites!
Focus Touchpoint
Before we move forward with :focus-visible, let’s revisit how :focus works in your CSS. Focus is the visual indicator that an element is being interacted with via keyboard, mouse, trackpad, or assistive technology. Certain elements are naturally interactive, like links, buttons, and form elements. We want to make sure that our users know where they are and the interactions they are making.
Remember don’t do this in your CSS!
:focus outline: 0; /*** OR ***/ :focus outline: none;
When you remove focus, you remove it for EVERYONE! We want to make sure that we are preserving the focus.
If for any reason you do need to remove the focus, make sure there is also fallback :focus styles for your users. That fallback can match your branding colors, but make sure those colors are also accessible. If marketing, design, or branding doesn’t like the default focus ring styles, then it is time to start having conversations and collaborate with them on the best way of adding it back in.
What is focus-visible?
The pseudo class, :focus-visible, is just like our default :focus pseudo class. It gives the user an indicator that something is being focused on the page. The way you write :focus-visible is cut and dry:
:focus-visible /* ... */
When using :focus-visible with a specific element, the syntax looks something like this:
.your-element:focus-visible /*...*/
The great thing about using :focus-visible is you can make your element stand out, bright and bold! No need to worry about it showing if the element is clicked/tapped. If you choose not to implement the class, the default will be the user agent focus ring which to some is undesirable.
Backstory of focus-visible
Before we had the :focus-visible, the user agent styling would apply :focus to most elements on the page; buttons, links, etc. It would apply an outline or “focus ring” to the focusable element. This was deemed to be ugly, most didn’t like the default focus ring the browser provided. As a result of the focus ring being unfavorable to look at, most authors removed it… without a fallback. Remember, when you remove :focus, it decreases usability and makes the experience inaccessible for keyboard users.
In the current state of the web, the browser no longer visibly indicates focus around various elements when they have focus. The browser instead uses varying heuristics to determine when it would help the user, providing a focus ring in return. According to Khan Academy, a heuristic is, “a technique that guides an algorithm to find good choices.”
What this means is that the browser can detect whether or not the user is interacting with the experience from a keyboard, mouse, or trackpad and based on that input type, it adds or removes the focus ring. The example in this post highlights the input interaction.
In the early days of :focus-visible we were using a polyfill to handle the focus ring created by Alice Boxhall and Brian Kardell, Mozilla also came out with their own pseudo class, :moz-focusring, before the official specification. If you want to learn more about the early days of the focus-ring, check out A11y Casts with Rob Dodson.
Focus Importance
There are plenty of reasons why focus is important in your application. For one, like I stated above, we as ambassadors of the web have to make sure we are providing the best, accessible experience we can. We don’t want any of our users guessing where they are while they are navigation through the experience.
One example that always comes to mind is the Two Blind Brothers website. If you go to the website and click/tap (this works on mobile), the closed eye in the bottom left corner, you will see the eye open and a simulation begins. Both the brothers, Bradford and Bryan Manning, were diagnosed at a young age with Stargardt’s Disease. Stargardt’s disease is a form of macular degeneration of the eye. Over time both brothers will be completely blind. Visit the site and click the eye to see how they see.
If you were in their shoes and you had to navigate through a page, you would want to make sure you knew exactly where you were throughout the whole experience. A focus ring gives you that power.
Demo
The demo below shows how :focus-visible works when added to your CSS. The first part of the video shows the experience when navigating through with a mouse the second shows navigating through with just my keyboard. I recorded myself as well to show that I did switch from using my mouse, to my keyboard.
Video showing how the heuristics of the browser works based on input and triggering the focus visible pseudo class.
The browser is predicting what to do with the focus ring based on my input (keyboard/mouse), and then adding a focus ring to those elements. In this case, when I am navigating through this example with the keyboard, everything receives focus. When using the mouse, only the input gets focus and the buttons don’t. If you remove :focus-visible, the browser will apply the default focus ring.
The code below is applying :focus-visible to the focusable elements.
:focus-visible outline-color: black; font-size: 1.2em; font-family: serif; font-weight: bold;
If you want to specify the label or the button to receive :focus-visible just prepend the class with input or button respectively.
button:focus-visible outline-color: black; font-size: 1.2em; font-family: serif; font-weight: bold; /*** OR ***/ input:focus-visible outline-color: black; font-size: 1.2em; font-family: serif; font-weight: bold;
Support
If the browser does not support :focus-visible you can have a fall back in place to handle the interaction. The code below is from the MDN Playground. You can use the @supports at-rule or “feature query” to check support. One thing to keep in mind, the rule should be placed at the top of the code or nested inside another group at-rule.
<button class="button with-fallback" type="button">Button with fallback</button> <button class="button without-fallback" type="button">Button without fallback</button>
.button margin: 10px; border: 2px solid darkgray; border-radius: 4px; .button:focus-visible /* Draw the focus when :focus-visible is supported */ outline: 3px solid deepskyblue; outline-offset: 3px; @supports not selector(:focus-visible) .button.with-fallback:focus /* Fallback for browsers without :focus-visible support */ outline: 3px solid deepskyblue; outline-offset: 3px;
Further Accessibility Concerns
Accessibility concerns to keep in mind when building out your experience:
Make sure the colors you choose for your focus indicator, if at all, are still accessible according to the information documented in the WCAG 2.2 Non-text Contrast (Level AA)
Cognitive overload can cause a user distress. Make sure to keep styles on varying interactive elements consistent
Browser Support
This browser support data is from Caniuse, which has more detail. A number indicates that browser supports the feature at that version and up.

JUDGING LIBERATED FEDERALISM, XII
With the four elements of a liberated federalist model described and explained over the last series of postings, this posting begins the description and explanation of the model itself.  To remind readers, the four elements are covenant or compact, equality, communal democracy, and covenant of reason.  Readers are encouraged to visit those postings – if not read already – and become familiar with these elements.  But for now, this blog will proceed with addressing the model.
This blogger would like to emphasize that what follows in no way attempts to offer a model suitable for initiating professional federalist studies in political science. Instead, the model is meant to provide a starting point, a source of ideas and questions that would be suitable for designing curricular content regarding the study of government and politics at the secondary level of American schools.
The model is made up of three main components:  the community, participating entities, and the association.  A visual representation of the model is depicted in a graphic rendition and can be seen in this blogger’s book, Toward a Federated Nation.[1]  Unfortunately, the platform upon which this blog appears is not amenable to including that illustration, but the book’s rendition is well displayed, and the book is inexpensive (available through Amazon).  In any event, readers will be able to understand what follows without having the graphic version before them.
In general, the model attempts to place the interactive elements and their aspects in relationship to each other.  The model is normative in that it presents an ideal set of relationships.  The model is also non-specific regarding levels of political activity.  That is, the model can be applied to local, state, regional, or national arrangements, both within and without government.
The model is also situational, depicting situations in which political actors are confronted with politically challenging conditions.  Therefore, the community, participating entities, and the association are represented by different symbols.  There are outer boxes, made up of dashed lines and that symbolically enclose the community in which featured associations exist – these can be the government or other arrangements such as churches, schools, corporations, non-incorporated businesses, etc.
An ideal community is characterized by the attributes identified along the boundary of the model, i.e., they are a functioning community holding cultural commitment to federalist values to a significant degree, a set of functioning and interacting institutions, and a community with moral primacy.  Of course, these are ideal characterizations and worthy, in real life, to pursue their eventuality to whatever degree possible.  They will be further explained in upcoming postings.
Participating entities can be persons, arrangements (any organized groups), or associations within the community in which the studied association exists.  For example, that could be a labor union as a participating entity in the national community ruled by the US government, which in this example is the association under study.
The center of the model has an enclosed area that represents the association under study.  From that center, arrows emanate to the entity boxes and represent those bonds that ideally characterize the relationship between those persons, arrangements, or associations with the studied association.
The characteristics of those bonds are preferred qualities such as equality and communal links. Each entity ideally should extend to the studied association loyalty, trust, skills, and knowledge.  In exchange, the entity ideally should expect from the association equal standing and, if needed, allowances so that the entity can viably participate in the expected processes with the studied association.
To further characterize each entity, it should be afforded constitutional integrity.  That affirmation refers to the individual or group rights that protect the integrity of each entity.  In terms of how the entity defines his/her/its station within the relationships denoted in the model, there are the following types of held qualities:  status of entity, its conscience, and its practical attributes.  These last elements identify the relevant assets and designations that the entity brings to the association.
The large, central enclosure, the association, has in its encompassing character (or designation of its type) reference to its founding agreement which would be in the form of a compact, covenant, or charter.  In addition, the association ideally should be based on two qualities:  qualified majority rule and minority rights.  These are familiar to most people.
In a more central sense of what an association is – what type it is – there are characteristics that establish the distinctive characteristics of the studied association. Those would be the terms of the specific compact-al, covenantal, or chartered agreement among its members. In this last concern, there are three characteristics which are fraternal ethos (or sense of partnership), elements of communal democracy, and a deliberative process by which decisions are made.
Not all arrangements are associations; some are merely arrangements.  An association is an arrangement, making association a subclass under arrangement.  Associations need to be sufficiently federalist in their makeup – such as a sufficient sense of partnership among their members – to be so considered or defined as an association and not merely an arrangement.
The final element of the model refers to the specific conditions that would be studied in an instructional lesson utilizing this model.  That is, a particular lesson would investigate a case in which the association is confronted by a politically challenging condition.  The study would apply an analysis of the situation based on the ideals presented by the model.
Ideally, an association would produce some action that could be defended as a moral response and one which would portray the responsibility of the association to uphold the communal well-being of the community.  The condition studied is represented as an input to the association. The ideal reaction by the association is illustrated by an output from the association.
Hopefully, readers will have access to the graphic illustration of the model, but all of this will be described and explained in upcoming postings.  That material will review each of the above identified “interactions” among the elements of this model.  Again, readers without the illustration, this blogger believes, will be able to make sense of the model and how it portrays the ideas and ideals of the liberated federalist construct.  But, truly, feel free to purchase the book, Toward a Federated Nation, and look at page 230 for the graphic illustration.

Explore the levels of IETM Viewer software, and Indian standard for IETMs, programming skills needed, and the importance in defense systems. Gain insights into the advancements in technology that have revolutionized the accessibility and usability of technical manuals.
Introduction:
Understanding IETM: The Power of Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals
In today’s digital age, information is increasingly being accessed and consumed in electronic formats. One such important development in technical documentation is the Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM). Code and Pixels Interactive Technologies Private Limited (CNP), an IT service provider based in Hyderabad, India, specializes in the innovative use of technology to provide end-to-end software development and IETMs. In this article, we will explore the concept of IETM, its significance, and its various levels.
What is IETM?
IETM stands for Interactive Electronic Technical Manual. It refers to a manual or softcopy of any book, including PDF scanned files. Any book or document in a digital format can be considered an IETM. The term “interactive” in IETM signifies the presence of dynamic elements such as hyperlinks, hotspots, and other interactive features that enhance the user’s experience and facilitate efficient navigation through the content.
Simple Method for Understanding IETM Documents
When compared to the general opinion, IETM is not a specific file format like Microsoft Word (.DOC) or Portable Document Format (PDF). Instead, it is a technical term used to describe digital manuals with technical information and cross-references. Let’s take a closer look at the different levels of IETMs:
Photo by: ( Google — Code and Pixels )
1. Level-1 IETM:
IETM Level 1 refers to a compilation of normal scanned images, such as scanned pages of a book or manual. This basic level lacks interactivity and dynamic features. It is essentially a collection of static images.
2. Level-2 IETM:
IETM Level 2 involves the use of IETM PDF files with hyperlinks, cross-references, and indexing. This level introduces a certain degree of interactivity, making it easier to navigate through the content. PDF-based IETMs offer improved usability compared to Level-1.
3. Level-3 IETM:
IETM Level 3 utilizes XML or HTML to create a more dynamic and interactive web-based application. This level enables users to access technical information with enhanced features such as search capabilities, multimedia integration, and interactive elements. Level-3 IETMs provide a more immersive user experience.
4. Level-4 IETM:
IETM Level 4 represents the highest level of interactivity and functionality. It is a database-based web application where all manuals are converted into a MYSQL database and stored. Users can retrieve specific information based on their requests, and the relevant data is pulled from the database and displayed. Level-4 IETMs offer advanced search capabilities, customization options, and real-time updates.
Exploring the IETM Role and Benefits:
When it comes to technical documentation, Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETMs) have emerged as valuable tools for efficient information retrieval and enhanced user experience.
Understanding the IETM Viewer:
The IETM Viewer is a software application designed specifically for accessing and navigating through manuals that have been converted into a database format. While Level 1 and Level 2 IETMs, which are in the form of PDF files, do not require an IETM Viewer, Level 3 and Level 4 IETMs utilize this software extensively. Let’s explore its capabilities:
Applications of IETMs:
IETMs find widespread use in the defense industry, particularly in the context of complex systems such as missiles, defense vehicles, communication systems, and more. In the past, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) would provide hard copies of manuals to end-users, resulting in an overwhelming number of pages for reference. However, with the implementation of IETMs, the delivery of digital manuals has become a mandatory requirement for the Indian defense.
IETMs facilitate quick and efficient troubleshooting, operational procedures, and other critical tasks. By adhering to the Indian defense guidelines and standards outlined in JSG 0852:2019, IETMs ensure a standardized structure and ease of access to information. The digitization of manuals through IETMs has significantly improved the usability and effectiveness of technical documentation in defense systems.
IETM: A Comprehensive Overview:
IETM Software and Programming Skills: IETM software is not freeware or open-source; it is a customized IETM Software and Programming Skills: IETM software is not freeware or open-source; it is a customized software solution developed in accordance with defense guidelines. Angular, Node.js, and MYSQL databases are commonly used technologies for developing IETM software. Users access IETMs through three login modes: User, Admin, and Super Admin (Authoring Tool). Programming skills are not required for editing Level 3 or Level 4 IETMs, as built-in text editors and user-friendly graphical interfaces simplify content updates.
There is no specific standard for IETMs tailored specifically for the army, navy, or air force, the Indian defense system follows a single standard, JSG 0852. This standard applies to all branches of the Indian defense, ensuring uniformity and consistency in IETM implementation. It is essential to note that the S1000D standard is an alternative standard for defense IETMs. While it shares similar functionality, the structure and implementation of S1000D differ significantly from the Indian standard. S1000D utilizes XML files and often requires specialized software tools for conversion.
As technology continues to advance, IETMs have become indispensable in the field of technical documentation, particularly in defense systems. The evolution from static image collections to dynamic, database-driven applications has revolutionized the accessibility and usability of technical manuals

Deformation of a Macroscopic Object by Feedback Action in a Quantum System Ensemble - Technology Org

Deformation of a Macroscopic Object by Feedback Action in a Quantum System Ensemble - Technology Org
The interaction of light with matter lies at the heart of quantum technologies: the high selectivity of laser light allows for precise control of the quantum state of atoms. This principle underlies the use of rare-earth-ion-doped crystals, in which atomic impurities benefit from structures that protect their quantum properties. These materials are currently experiencing remarkable growth with numerous applications, such as high-speed information processing, quantum memories and converters, and metrology.
The utilization and performance of these systems are limited by the very action of optical measurement, which can lead to significant distortions of the spectrum of atoms illuminated by the laser beam. The origin of this long-known phenomenon remained an open question, primarily due to the multiplicity of mechanisms that could be involved. This important question is addressed by the work of researchers from the Langevin Institute, LuMIn, and the Neel Institute, identifying the fundamental process underlying these disturbances [2].
To understand this, it is necessary to take a step back: in quantum mechanics, the concept of measurement is inseparable from that of feedback, which corresponds to a dynamic effect altering the state of the measured observable. These concepts are related to Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle, which states that the precision of measuring a physical quantity cannot be indefinitely increased without sacrificing another variable of the system (such as the position and velocity of a moving particle, respectively).
In previous work on a specific crystal, Tm:YAG, researchers noticed that continuous measurement of the state of atoms represented an extremely sensitive estimate of the locally applied constraints on the crystal [1]. Following the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, such a measurement should necessarily be accompanied by a feedback effect, meaning the appearance of a constraint in the vicinity of the illuminated atoms. This hypothesis was very audacious: the evaluation of such an effect, never observed before, yielded very low values that would make its observation illusory, if not impossible.
The researchers then devised a clever experiment to map the temporal evolution of deformations in a Tm:YAG crystal subjected to periodic excitation of atoms near its surface. This novel “time-resolved optomechanical tomography” device allows decoupling of the different forcing phenomena involved according to their own dynamics. Thus, the researchers were able to directly demonstrate the force associated with the resonant illumination of atoms and identify its two main components: a photothermal stress on the one hand, resulting from the non-radiative de-excitation of atoms, and a stress associated with the change in the atom’s orbital state, called “piezo-orbital,” corresponding to the desired effect.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this demonstration is the nearly perfect match between the internal dynamics of atoms and the macroscopic forces generated by their illumination, establishing a direct link between the quantum and classical worlds. This link is even more surprising as these experiments were all conducted under ambient temperature and pressure conditions, opening up new and interesting possibilities, particularly for quantum technologies. This work also highlights the potential of rare-earth-ion-doped crystals as a new ultra-sensitive “hybrid optomechanical system,” with the prospect of reversible transfer of quantum states to mechanical states.

Instead of dealing with all this head on, you avoided it. You put everything aside and went on with life, spending all your time doing work, studying and doing your university projects.
Wonwoo noticed this and decided to invite you for a night out. Just a chill night with some drinks. Usually, you would decline, which is why Wonwoo has never invited you out. But you could use the distraction. Maybe being out of the house was good.
DING DONG
“Coming!” You ran down, fixing your earring. You didn’t really know how to dress for a night out like this so you picked a random dress. It was a dark blue, crushed velvet cocktail dress.
“Come on in.” You opened the door for him. Wonwoo smiled, bowing before removing his shoes to come in.
“This dress isn’t really motorcycle friendly, is it?” You let out an awkward laugh, going into the kitchen to get your phone that you left there to charge.
“I didn’t ride my bike since we might drink. I’ll call a cab.” Wonwoo said. He just stood in the doorway, unsure of what to do since it was the first time he was in your house.
“(y/n)?” Wonwoo suddenly called your name, stopping you in your tracks.
“You look great.” He smiled softly.
“Oh... Thank you.” You felt your cheeks heat up at his sudden compliment. He held out a hand to support you as you wore your shoes. After locking up the house, he escorted you to the cab that was waiting for you. And of course, Wonwoo opened the door for you to get in first, being the gentleman that he is. The car ride was silent.
“C-Can I ask you something?” Wonwoo threaded lightly. You hummed, nodding your head.
“I know you like your privacy and I shouldn’t pry but there were this rumours and pictures floating around about some expensive sports car and handsome guy picking you up. Is he one of them?” He asked nervously.
“If by ‘one of them’, you mean my father’s... employees. Yes, he is... or was. There are 7 of them.” You rubbed the back of your neck.
“Are they bothering you?”
“Can we not talk about this anymore? I just don’t want to have to think about it for a few minutes.” That came out a lot harsher and colder than you expected. But Wonwoo didn’t react.
“Sorry. I’m...” You sighed, not really knowing how to piece your words together anymore.
“I understand. Don’t worry about it. I didn’t mean to pry.” Wonwoo smiled comfortingly. Thankfully for you, the cab stopped outside the club. You looked at the long line outside that didn’t seem to be moving,
“Don’t look so worried. My friend put our name on the list so we can just walk in.” Wonwoo laughed. You both got out and he grasped your hand, giving your names to the bouncer. You were so stunned by his action that you just followed him without a word, letting him lead you.
“There’s a table there.” Wonwoo said in your ear on top of the loud music. You were still shocked that he was holding your hand that you just followed him.
“Phew, it’s crowded.” You said, casually pulling your hand away to check if you dropped anything from your bag.
“Yeah, that’s what you get for being here on a Friday night.” He chuckled. You stood at the table while Wonwoo went to get drinks at the bar. The standing table was thankfully at the side of the bar, which meant less people.
“Relax, you’re here to have fun.” You told yourself.
“Here.” Wonwoo got himself a beer and got you a cocktail. It was a nice refreshing drink with flavoured soju as the alcohol.
“Let me know how much everything is tonight and we’ll split the cost.” You told him as you took a sip.
“It’s okay, (y/n). It’s my treat, just enjoy yourself.” Wonwoo smiled. He clinked his glass with yours. Although this wasn’t your exact idea of relaxing, you were glad that the noise and the crowd made the place too loud that you didn’t need to start sharing your feelings. Wonwoo was a good friend but you just weren’t used to sharing so much about yourself with others.
After some drinks, you excused yourself to go to the toilet. But of course, there was a line. About 15 minutes went by without the line moving. You were about to give up when someone grabbed your wrist.
“(y/n) sshi?” You looked at the familiar face.
“Oh... Uh...”
“Yoongi.” He said, letting you go. You nodded your head. Other people in the line now had their attention on you and Yoongi.
“Come.” He nodded over to follow him. You didn’t know why you just went along, not even asking why he wanted you to go with him. You came before a staircase with two guards. But they parted ways upon seeing Yoongi.
“Sir.” They bowed respectfully as Yoongi cooly walked up, hands tucked into his pockets. You quickly bowed your heads back to the guards and caught up to Yoongi.
“You can use this bathroom instead. It’s cleaner and safer.” Yoongi stopped before a door.
“A-Are you sure?”
“If I wasn’t sure, I wouldn’t have went down to fish you out of the crowd. Take all the time you need. This is our own private bathroom so no one else is allowed to use it.” He explained. You nodded, bowing gratefully to him before entering the restroom.
The bathroom was a lot more opulent and grand, with black granite and gold trims. Like Yoongi said, it was very clean, unlike a usual club bathroom. It was definitely a boys bathroom with urinals but you just used one of the stalls.
“Hyung, why can’t I use the bathroom? I really need to go!” You heard voices outside as you were washing your hands.
“Only the 7 of us use it anyway. Unless... Do you have a secret guest in there?!” The person talking to Yoongi gasped as if he just uncovered something scandalous.
“Watch your mouth.” You heard Yoongi threaten.
“Sorry, I’m done.” You opened the door. But you didn’t expect Yoongi to be standing so close that you ended up bumping into his back.
“Oh, no wonder hyung was guarding the bathroom.” The male said. He didn’t mind you and just brushed past to use the bathroom. Yoongi moved you away from the bathroom door, not wanting you to accidentally get hit.
“Thank you. Is it okay if I just stay here for a few more minutes? You can go back to what you were doing before.” You asked timidly. Yoongi took one look at you and nodded. You didn’t need to tell him anything for him to know what you were thinking. The club was getting overwhelming. Yoongi never really liked coming too unless his brothers make him.
“Why did you come if you don’t like it?”
“A friend brought me here as a distraction. Plus, I’ve never really come to a club before.” You replied. Yoongi nodded his head.
“You don’t need to stay and accompany me. I’ll go back down in a bit.” You said.
“It’s okay.” He leaned against the opposite wall. You took your phone out to send Wonwoo a text, assuring him that you were safe and that he could go home first. But you didn’t tell him where you were and who you were with.
“Actually... I wanted to apologise. My brothers told me I shouldn’t have offered you a smoke the other time. I just thought it would help.” Yoongi looked at you.
“It’s fine. I honestly didn’t think too much about it. There were other things to think about.” You shook your head.
“Understandable. I’m sure you have your fair share of confusion and questions that come along with it. This is just the start.” Yoongi said. You didn’t let his straightforward tone faze you, nodding your head glumly.
“Well, I should go. Thanks for letting me hang here.” You straightened up.
“No worries. I’ll walk you down.” Yoongi followed suit. You walked behind him, not sure of the way to the exit. With your insistence, Wonwoo had gone home on his own. You did feel bad for abandoning him when he was the one that invited you out but you also didn’t want him to wait.
“Do you have a ride home?” Yoongi asked.
“I told my friend to go home first so I guess I can get a cab home.” You waved him off, getting your phone out. But Yoongi stopped you, his hand grasping your phone and covering the screen.
“It’s not safe and cheap to get a cab from here at this time. I drank a little so I shouldn’t drive. Hang on.” Yoongi waved over one of the bouncers.
“Use the company car and send her home then report back.” Yoongi ordered.
“Yoongi sshi, it’s really okay.”
“Get the address from her and make sure you see her entering the house before coming back.” Yoongi ignored you. The bouncer nodded and bowed, running off the get the car.
“(y/n) sshi, hyung.” You both turned to see Taehyung jogging over. He had a big, square-ish grin as he waved.
“Jimin said you were here and that Yoongi hyung was with you. Are you driving her home, hyung?” Taehyung tilted his head.
“I drank. So was gonna get one of the workers to drive her back.” Yoongi explained, standing back as he lit a cigarette to smoke. Taehyung nodded his head.
“I’ll drive you home. I didn’t drink since I am the designated driver tonight. Bring my car instead.” Taehyung called out. The worker bowed and ran back into the club. Yoongi decided to go in first after his cigarette was done, not liking being out in the cold. He shot you a nod while you bowed gratefully to him. While waiting, Taehyung put his jacket over your shoulders.
“Did you come alone?” Taehyung asked.
“No... I came with a friend but I abandoned him. Yoongi sshi was kind enough to let me hang out in the quiet area. So I told my friend to go home first.” You said. You didn’t know why you were explaining so much to him.
“This isn’t you scene, is it?” He teased. You pursed your lips and shook your head. The noise and the crowd just wasn’t comfortable.
“Sir.” The car stopped right in front of you. The worker came out, bowing and passing Taehyung’s keys to him.
“Here you go. Watch your head.” Taehyung opened the car door for you to enter. You sat inside, keeping the sides of his jacket close to you so it wouldn’t get caught in the door.
Taehyung confirmed your address before starting to drive. One hand held his head, elbow resting on the door next to him while the other hand was on the steering wheel. During the quiet ride, you fiddled with the hem of the dress, pulling it down every now and then.
“Are you cold?” He asked.
“No, I’m good. Thank you.” You replied softly. With your head leaning against the headrest, you looked out the window. The only reason you would be out this late usually was because you were working.
“Thanks for dropping me off again.” You said as Taehyung pulled up outside of your house.
“Any time.” Taehyung smiled. You unbluckled your seatbelt and got out of the car. But before you could walk further, Taehyung rolled down the window.
“Goodnight, (y/n)!”
“G-Goodnight, Taehyung sshi.” A small smile formed on your lips as you bowed your head and entered the house. Like the other day, Taehyung only drove off after he was sure you had entered the house.
Only after you entered the house and you heard Taehyung drive off, that you realised you had forgotten the return him his jacket. You removed it carefully, as if any movement would cause it to tear like tissue. You inspected it, trying to figure out if you should wash it on your own, and risk ruining the expensive material, or just send it for dry cleaning.
“Hi, Wonwoo. Did you make it home safe?”
“Oh, (y/n). Yes, I am home. I went home after you sent me that text. Are you alright? You scared me.”
“Yes, I am alright. I just found a quiet space to chill for a while so I didn’t want you to wait for me. I just got home. Sorry for ruining the night. I’ll make it up to you, I promise.” You said, putting your shoes away.
“Don’t say that, (y/n). I’m sorry you didn’t enjoy yourself.”
“I did enjoy myself, Wonwoo. Thank you for bringing me out to feel better.” You laughed. After wishing each other good night, you hung up.
You took a shower and was feeling peckish so you made yourself some ramyeon. There was always ramyeon in the kitchen for when you or your mother needed a late night snack after working.
“I’ll have to drop the jacket off at the dry cleaners tomorrow.” You groaned tiredly, looking at the blazer that rested over the back of the chair.

Hoseok was one of the first ones to wake up. After a day of working and a night of drinking, the boys all usually slept in during the weekends. The moment his foot touched the bottom of the stairs, a maid ran over to him, bowing her head in fear.
“What is it?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Your workers are here, sir. They said that it is important for you to see them immediately.” She relayed timidly, afraid of making him angry.
“Send them in. And get my breakfast.” Hoseok shooed her away before shuffling to the dining room. Like any other normal person, he didn’t like having to work on the weekends.
“Good morning, Boss.” The 3 men put the crate that they were carrying down and bowed to Hoseok.
“This better be important for you to be here on a Saturday morning.” Hoseok said, not even looking up at them. He was more focused on the tray of food that the butler had placed down in front of him.
“The shipment is here early. We thought you would want to check it right away.” One of the men informed. Hoseok put his napkin on the table and stood up.
“Show me.” He commanded as he walked over. The men opened the box, revealing the contents inside.
“Very nice...” He picked up one of the items.
“Business on a Saturday morning, Hobah?” Yoongi came in. Hoseok’s workers bowed upon seeing the pale man enter the dining room. But of course, he didn’t even spare them a glance. He sat down in his allocated seat, waiting for the staff to serve him his breakfast. His breakfast was usually an iced coffee then his food 20 minutes later.
“Can’t help it, hyung. You want the best, you’ve got to work when others aren’t.” Hoseok laughed while Yoongi snorted at his comment. He placed the items back into the crate.
“Leave this here. I’ll show the others to see what they think. Good work. We’ll discuss the rest on Monday.” Hoseok said.
“Of course, boss. Have a nice weekend.” The 3 bowed, moving the crate to the side of the room before leaving the mansion. Hoseok took his seat across Yoongi.
“So hyung, I heard you had a little moment with the girl.” Hoseok asked.
“What moment?” Yoongi asked back, no emotion on his face as he sipped the last bit of his coffee.
“Jimin said you loyally guarded the door for her as she used our toilet. Even stayed with her in the hallway after to comfort her.” He explained. Yoongi rolled his eyes, his brothers really needed better things to talk about.
“I saw her the moment she entered, I’m surprised you guys didn’t considering how high our booth is. She needed to use a toilet and the queue was insane so I offered her to use ours. And I wasn’t comforting her, she needed a quiet place and I stayed with her. That’s all.” Yoongi explained.
“Well, that’s a lot more interaction than what the rest have got. Looks like she’ll warm up to you first.” Hoseok said.
“No, she’ll warm up to Taehyung first. He was the one that sent her home.” Yoongi dug into his food on the tray that the butler brought him. Hoseok hummed but couldn’t help the giggle that escaped him.
“What’s Hobi laughing about?” Namjoon came in. He had been awake for a while, opting to sit in his room to read the newspaper rather than come downstairs right away.
“No idea.” Yoongi replied, putting a chopstick of rice into his mouth.
“Ah, seriously, Hobi. I thought we established that we are not going to bring work into the dining room?” Namjoon tsked at the crate in the room.
“It’s fine, Namjoon ah. I’ll move it after breakfast. The boys needed me to inspect the goods, that’s all. Even risked bothering me on a Saturday to do it.” Hoseok waved the leader off. Namjoon shook his head with a sigh.
“Bring my breakfast.” He ordered as he took his seat at the head of the table. The butler bowed and left.
“I’m done. Going back to sleep.” Yoongi stood up and shuffled out of the room. The weekend was for Yoongi to catch up on sleep, it was normal to not see him for the entirety of the two days because he was just sleeping or resting in bed. Jin and Taehyung were the last ones that had breakfast. Jungkook and Jimin would sleep in until dinner time.
“Here. Take what is yours and leave the rest. I told you I would get things done.” Jin dropped the stack of files on the table. Namjoon, Hoseok and Taehyung shrugged, going through the pile to retrieve their things.
“So, hyung, did you find out anymore information about (y/n) when you did your stalking?” Taehyung asked.
“Yah, Taehyung! That was supposed to be confidential.” Jin hissed at the younger exposing him to the rest. However, the younger just shrugged.
“You’re running a check on her?” Namjoon raised an eyebrow.
“I’m not running a check on her... Well, at least not the background checks I usually do. I just wanted to find out about her to maybe try to connect with her in some way. She is a closed book.” Jin explained.
“So what if she is a closed book, I’m sure you can still find whatever you need on her.” Hosoek laughed.
“That’s the thing... She does not have much of a record except for her birth certificate and basic school details. Everything else either doesn’t exist or has been wiped.” Jin informed.
“Wait, you’re telling me there is actually information that you can’t find?”
“How do you know information has been wiped? She could have just not had that much of an eventful life so far. I doubt she can wipe her own records and she doesn’t seem to have a reason to do that.” Namjoon said. He didn’t know you but you didn’t seem like a skillful hacker that could wipe records.
“I know information has been wiped because I am the one who wiped them...” Jin admitted with his head slightly hung.
“What?”
“Boss wanted me to wipe them. He was paranoid, especially when it came to her. So my task was to regularly wipe her records that were 'not relevant’. Hospital visits, stuff like that...” Jin gulped.
