I cannot ever forget going to the Institut du Monde Arabe (Institute of the Arab World) in Paris. It was one of the only times where the mere architecture of a place affected me to my bones. The building is a mirror and a tapestry.
The facade of the Institut is made of hundreds of mechanical irises. The inside is lit by sunlight. It feels like a mausoleum. One of the most heartbreaking places I've ever seen. The magnitude of loss inflicted on the world, revealed in narrowed daylight.
