they spend every Sunday morning having coffee and croissants in bed and doing the Sunday crossword together. or, they try to beat each other to answering each clue

slightly related, they are banned from van der humphrey scrabble games, because they get too competitive and too horny to play with others

in a comedy of errors, Nate finds out Blair's pregnant before Dan does (he's out of town on a book tour, Blair finds out while he away and is wigging) and then Nate has to pretend that Everything Is Cool even though he's a literal human golden retriever and is just so happy for them. he keeps it a secret though. when they tell the rest of the gang he's like "FIRST! I knew first! I knew the entire time!"

in any universe I hold in my head, they live in Paris for at least one year, possibly more.

once in an interview, Dan discloses that Rosemary's Baby is his and his wife's "Valentine's Movie" and the internet is like "????????"

in his late 20s, Dan starts getting ocular migraines while trying to read and write and brushes them off, so Blair is the one who kicks his ass all the way to the optometrist. He's fine, he just needs glasses. (blair thinks they're really, really hot)

on their first anniverasry (paper) they each give the other their preserved Nenette ticket stub, because they tried to throw it away, but just couldn't. saps. Blair frames hers and Dan hangs it in his home office. Dan puts his in a custom shadow box that sits on Blair's desk at work.

Once, in a dedication or social media caption, Dan calls her “The Ingrid to my Humphrey, the Waldorf to my Statler, the Harry to my Sally.” the biggest issue she takes with that is "I am Meg Ryan. Always."

speaking of social media, every time Dan and Blair post photos of themselves or sappy things of each other, Jenny leaves the same comment: gross.

(obviously at this point they're all cool with each other but Jenny is a little sister and also loves a bit)

sometimes Blair will like and/or quote tweet thirst tweets about Dan because she loves to cause problems.

Red wine makes Blair Bonkers Horny and far enough along into their relationship Dan learns to just roll with it and prepare himself mentally.

I discussed this at length before in dms with nads @mysteriesofloves which is that Blair has a system of pet names for Dan. *keira knightley as elizabeth bennet darcy voice* kitten for every day, my love for Sundays, and bunny, but only on very special occasions

and finally, to bring it back to the wedding rings, both are engraved. Blair chooses for Dan's band: bread, light, & shadow (based off of Neruda) and Dan chooses for Blair's: still days & hurricanes (based of von Radics)

And then you have sparkly, sunshiney Serena, which hides much more of her than you would think it does, in the same way that Serena is often reduced down to her bubbly side and, at this point, really burying a lot of stuff

But you have Nate in the Phantom of the Opera half-mask—he’s quite literally playing a role, and he’s also notably not fully in it, in that UES skin anymore

Blair’s is metal, very rigid and harsh, arranged in that pretty fragile, feminine pattern—very Queen B, very much pointing to how she portrays herself as the hyperfeminine dictator and to the fact that she herself pretty highly spirals under pressure

There’s this combination of both who they are and what they play at going on, because their lies are deep enough to be a part of them. They can’t actually not be them, once you’ve done something that’s something you’ve done

And Dan, of course, has to borrow something plain. He’s very honest, as yet, but he’d still like to come in

Well we went out for Italian Thanksgiving weekend and the meal culminated in me getting in a fight with my grandmother's Republican boyfriend lol

Um, well, I also visited a relative for a long weekend. They live in a small coastal town that I'm gonna leave unspecified but it was really really beautiful. We lucked out with the weather too. And I love the road trip up there!

How do you think the show would be different if Vanessa was the 5th member of the core five instead of Chuck?

Ok, first off this is a great question. Second, I don't really know how to answer it sjdkahdj so this is more of a list of headcanons (?) of the show as it is (mostly) but adding Vanessa at points that I feel her pov would have been great or the dynamics had potential to be more interesting with her having a more prominent role also some wishful thinking because who cares

Putting in it under the cut because this got long

the show kinda had dan go to vanessa and serena to nate post breakup, but i think i would highligh this a lot more, nate and dan are bros, vanessa and serena still get their friendship moments à la age of dissonance, and there's a little bit of awkwardness with nate and vanessa dating, while dan and serena are there like ._.

Nate has money problems in season 2, so we get more Vanessa + Humphreys + Nate plots

I don't have a lot of ideas here but Vanessa's sister actually exists and interacts with the characters lmao

In s2-3 Blair and Vanessa have their moments of friendship, but I think it would have been interesting to see Vanessa, learning to manage the social aspect of college, and she is well liked, she starts becoming more popular without even realizing it. So now you get her family disapproving over college + Blair having to deal with Vanessa (and Dan) be more popular than her. I'm not a big fan of Enough about Eve, but that's kind of the dynamic, they are rivals, but while they are living in the same building and sharing classes, they learn a little bit about each other's lives

Blair is dealing with Cyrus and Aaron joining her family, meanwhile Vanessa's relationship to her family gets worse as she spends time in school which her family disapproves. Again there's a lot of potential for Blair/Vanessa parallels this season

Unlike Serena, Nate and even Dan (rip), Vanessa is not one to keep her opinions, so even tho she doesn't like Blair, she still talks to her about 🪑, and about how she should dump him

On that same note, Vanessa tries to comfort Jenny, and has a more of a big sister dynamic with her, and maybe even lets her stay with her when she is fighting with Rufus

Vanessa teaming up with Blair and Eric during season 3 while trying to stop Jenny's reign, meanwhile Blair and Vanessa working as reluctant allies

We have 2x19 weekend with the VanderBilts and thanksgiving "mmm whatcha say" scene, now I offer you, Vanessa's birthday dinner at the Humphrey's loft with the Abrams meeting Nate, and Serena. chaos ensues

Blair slowly starts adapting to college (and doesn't transfer because i say so), and slowly starts to consider both Dan and Vanessa friends (but she won't admit it or say it out loud); in general Blair and Vanessa have a similar dynamic to s2 dair, where they learn to tolerate each other for the sake of peace

Once the main college drama takes a step back, Serena and Vanessa start hanging out a lot more… before realizing that the reason they are hanging out more is because, Dan and Blair are suddenly hanging out a lot without telling them

Now we have the Pink Party but make it The One where everbody finds out™. We cut Charlie/Ivy of this plot and now we got Serena and Vanessa suspecting that Dan and Blair are having an affair and spying on them, the party plays out the same, except now, the confrontation at the end of the party is a lot more messy:

Serena is hurt because Dan and Blair are having a relationship without her, that as Blair puts it has "things that we coulnd't never do with you", her self doubt comes back in and her relationship with dan and blair is damaged

Vanessa is hurt for the same reason but it's the flipside of that, Dan and Blair like to watch movies, discuss literature, etc, things that SHE used to do with Dan; she is dan's best friend, she used to watch movies, tv and discuss things with her, they used to make fun of blair together!, and now he is pulling away from her while hanging out with the enemy™

Vanessa confronts Dan about hanging out with Blair of all people, Blair hears this, and we get a different dynamic: Blair gets hurt, because she actually started to consider Vanessa a friend, but apparently Vanessa doesn't (something like dair's "i stupidly thought that this fake friendship might be real" moment) and now it's Vanessa's turn to self reflect on the way she sees Blair :)

Assuming Jenny leaves in the same way as she does in canon, Vanessa would be a good way to deal with the Jenny + Dair issue. Vanessa's resistence to being friends with Blair and to Dan dating her might come from resenting how the s3 situation was handled, since Vanessa was really close to Jenny. So there's an opportunity to have Blair actually express her regrets over that to Dan and Vanessa.

Vanessa and Serena stay together to comfort each other over Dair being a thing. They both help with each other's self doubts, they start going to the movies! making art! just hanging out! and this helps Serena to realize her value in these areas and now we set the stage for Serena to choose a carreer/work/or thing to do aside being someone's wife and the It girl. And Vanessa starts feeling like maybe she belongs more into the group as she and Blair solve their issues, Dan starts hanging out with her again and her relationship to Serena becomes stronger

Since she remains a main part of the group, there's also the possibilities of having Serena and Vanessa being friends and then in season 5 adding angst by having the Vanessa/Nate/Serena love triangle while Serena moves on from Dan

While Dan is The Outsider of the show, after Rufus and Lily get married, money is a lot less of an issue, so Vanessa would be the character that continues to confront the rich characters. And we could also add the tension of Vanessa and Dan growing apart now that Dan is fitting in a lot more and doesn't have the same problems and perspectives he used to have

Ivy kinda comes as a Jenny/Vanessa replacement, so having Vanessa as a main, kinda allows Ivy's existence to be even more useless, so we can also take her out lol

Since Vanessa is more of a presence, regardless of if they stay together or break up, Nate now has someone who is constantly challenging him so he questions his decisions a lot more and never joins the Spectator amen 😌

This is waaaay too optimistic lmao but Vanessa seems to be a lot more lgbt… so i like to think that having her and her sister/family have a stronger presence brings a little bit more queerness that is not "diversity win! the r*pist is bisexual!". I mean even Vanessa just hanging out with Eric would be great

I know the s3 threesome is cursed, but again, Vanessa has the only wlw kiss (as far as i can remember), we could explore this in a more serious way 👀 and have a main character be canonically queer (i'm not counting eric as main here)

I've heard people say that Vanessa is useless in the show, but the thing is that she is the character that directly opposes the UES way of thinking. The Humphreys tend to either fully become part of the UES (marrying Lily, Dan's whole Inside deal, Jenny's acceptance of Constance's politics, Rufus and Dan's desire to go to an ivy league, etc) or just quietly disagreeing with it (making comments, pointing out how messed up some things are, or just going back to Brooklyn). Vanessa offers a more proactive take when interacting with the UES, she confronts the Humphrey's non existent version of the elite and represents their world before joining it. That's why the writers didn't know what to do with her once they decided to commit to the more cynical view

boyd/raylan + 9 and 22

Here's #9, haven't come up with anything for 22 yet.

Raylan sneaks into Boyd's hospital room after visiting hours. He has to cause a small disruption in the hallway, but once the nurse leaves her station to check it out all he has to do is slip in the door. Then his stomach turns. 

Boyd's face is so swollen it's almost hard to recognize, one whole side completely black and blue. His left arm's in a sling, his midsection wrapped in bandages, and they've got one of those little tubes in his nose. Raylan doesn't know what it's for. 

He doesn't know anything. 

He tries to read Boyd's chart but he doesn't understand anything on it except maybe something about a broken rib. No one will tell him anything. The nurses won't talk to him. He doesn't know what to do and he doesn't think he's ever hated himself for his uselessness as much as he does at this moment.

It's his nightmares come true, seeing Boyd laid up like this. It's everything he's always been afraid of, why he stayed away from Boyd for as long as he could. In the end though, he was weak. He gave in, just like he always knew he would, and he hates himself for it. He hates that he couldn't have been strong for Boyd, even if that meant never speaking to him again. At least if he'd done that, Boyd wouldn't be laying here unconscious with tubes and stitches in him. 

"Boyd" he says, pulling a chair up next to his bed and laying his hand atop Boyd's. "Stop this. You gotta wake up now." 

He can hear his voice shaking, just like his hands. Weak. 

"I don't know what to do," he admits. "You're the one always did all the thinking and planning." 

It's true. He and Boyd have always been a team in that way. Boyd always comes up with the plans and Raylan always follows behind him. It was Boyd who took him out to Evans Field that night and kissed him and told him he was prettier than any girl he'd ever seen, Boyd's idea to sneak away to Bo's hunting cabin so they could have privacy. It was Boyd's plan to get summer jobs being farm hands, Boyd's idea to work in the mines just until they could save up enough money to get the hell out of Harlan. Without him, Raylan doesn't even know what direction to point in, like a compass without a needle. Or worse, without a magnetic field at all.  

"Come on, Boyd," Raylan mutters under his breath. "I don't wanna do this." 

Then he sighs and takes both of Boyd's hands, lacing their fingers together, and closes his eyes. In a blink, everything else fades away. Raylan reaches deep inside of him, finds the very essence of life nestled in his chest, and slowly allows it to flow into Boyd. In his mind he imagines it as silvery black tendrils sinking beneath Boyd's skin, traveling up his veins until it finally finds Boyd's heart. Raylan's breath quickens as he focuses on Boyd's heartbeat, on the weak essence he detects inside him, then feeds his own essence to him, pouring it straight into him.  

The monitors and machines go crazy when Boyd bolts upright, gasping, and Raylan slumps back down in his chair, arms limp by his sides, pale as death with deep, dark circles under his eyes like he hasn't slept in weeks. 

"Raylan!" Boyd rasps, pulling out the tubes and IV, grabbing Raylan's face in his hands. "What did you do?" 

Raylan smiles weakly and reaches out, touching Boyd's face, no longer covered in bruises, no longer swollen. He just looks like Boyd again. His Boyd. His compass. 

"M'sorry," Raylan says. "Needed you to wake up." 

Boyd frowns. "Raylan?"

Raylan wraps his fingers around Boyd's wrist, holding it tight enough to bruise, and stares into his eyes. 

"I killed them," he says. "All of them. I can't–you weren't there."

"Oh, Raylan," Boyd sighs and cradles Raylan's head against his shoulders as he pets his hair. "What in God's name have you done?"

5. What is the perfect environment for you to write in? In my bedroom, in my bed, blanket covering my thighs and a cup of tea by my bedside table. But yeah, I've written at work & internships, and in the campus library and on public transport. who hasn't?

7. Which part of writing do you struggle with most? uhhh.. fics that have a strong emotional core regarding characters' identities that are somehow connected to mine, those take a lot of energy for me to write. like for example, the nonbinary dan series! i love writing that series and have the whole arc planned, but it comes from a place of honesty deep inside of me so it's hard to write, sometimes.

11. If you could only write angst, fluff, or smut for the rest of your life, which would it be? angst, probably. i used to consider myself a fluff writer primarily, but then i did febuwhump 2022, and like, that changed me. i feel like angst is a very versatile medium. (arguably, all 3 are versatile, i personally just have the most fun playing around with angst.)

Oh shit okokok

1. I LOVE my hair. Its naturally curly and its getting pretty long and its pretty thick. It just looks really cool most of the time so yea

2. I am actually really adaptable. Like i love having Plans and not deviating from them but once i give it a thought i can usually work around most things and figure out an even better way forward. It just takes me a min of panic thinking to get there but once i think about it i'm great

3. I love responsibility. I don't like being fully in charge and i will never be a boss or a leader but i am a great right hand person. Like a first mate, i can do the job and well while the captain is unavailable but when they come back i am happy to give the job back.

4. While i am not a great creative writer (dialogue sux and writing introspection is kindof hard to do without projecting my issues on to it, and keeping the characters personalities in tact is a bitch) i am a REALLY good academic writer. I have a very unique voice in my writing and i rarely get grades below 94 on essays. I can also write for pages and pages and pages. I tend to write my essays in one sitting too, usually averaging around 2-3hrs per essay depending on sources. I wrote a 7pg research paper the other day with 4 sources, start to finish in abt 4 hrs? Like, i think i'm pretty good at this

5. I like how self aware i am. Sometimes people don't realize a lot of things about themselves but i do. If anything i overthink everything about myself, but i still stay true to myself. I know i can get obnoxious, and am abit of a know it all, and i can tell when my amxiety is spiking in different ways and situations, amd i can tell when i am starting to slide into a depressive episode. But i can also tell that i look like my grandmother, and can put pieces together regarding interactions with other people. I know i don't like people in the kitchen with me, know i probably have undiagnosed adhd, etc. I am constantly aware of who i am and how i interact with others but not always in anegative way. I tend to psychoanalyze myself as i fall asleep and then can notice those things in myself and others when i wake.

Serena is still conked out in their bed when Nate gets in from his run. True, she’s never been a morning person like him, but on a typical day, she would be showing signs of life right about now. 

Nate toes off his shoes and clambers onto the bed, hovering over Serena where she lies on her side. He drops a kiss on her temple, then her cheek. 

“Good morning,” he whispers.

Serena groans, lifting a hand as if to push him away. “Okay that was way too loud. You’re practically screaming.” 

Nate bites back a laugh (because that would definitely be too loud). “How late were you guys out last night?”

“I don’t even know,” Serena whines, turning her face into the pillow. 

He grins, running a hand through Serena’s hair. “B must have been in rare form, huh?”

“You have no idea,” Serena grumbles. She lifts her head slightly, only to drop back down. “Oh, pain.” 

Nate rubs her back, trying to be soothing. “What can I do, babe?”

“Go back in time and tell Blair she already got her one bachelorette party.”

He swallows back another laugh. “What if instead I bring back coffee and breakfast burritos from that place down the street?” 

Serena slowly rolls her head to look at him. “That’ll do.” 

“I’m on it,” he promises with a smile, leaning down to kiss her lips.

“Mm-mm,” she clumsily intercepts him with her hand. “I have Long Island Iced Tea breath.” 

“Shit. B really did go all out.”

Serena makes another inconsolable, hungover moan in answer. 

Nate slips out of bed and onto his feet, then bends down, cupping Serena’s cheek in his hand to tilt her face up to his, because some things are worth it. “Be right back.”

what are some personal/fluffy headcannons you have for dair and serenate?

Well first I gotta direct you to my GG headcanons tag lol

But also okay:

-I think serenate definitely took sailing lessons when they were kids one summer in the Hamptons and they pick it back up again when they’re older. Nate’s always been naturally good at it and Serena finds something really comforting about being untethered and out at sea

-I love the idea of Blairenate having all sorts of traditions and in jokes and stuff going back to childhood (nothing but respect for MY njbc) but they do always try to make Dan feel included by explaining the overly long and complex backstory only for him to be like "that...makes even less sense than it did before" lololol

-I also love the idea of Dan being like...the only one with any actual practical real life skills lolol. Like he's the one who knows how to sew (obviously not at Jenny's level but he gets the basics of a simple needle and thread), how to cook, how to clean, how to change a tire, etc. etc. and one day he gets fed up enough that he does like...a "rich kid rehabilitation boot camp" for them to make them learn how to actually take care of themselves like adults.

-I also love the idea of Serenate just having like...absolutely the most basic taste in TV, movies, music, etc. Like MCU, Grey's Anatomy, that kind of shit and god does it drive Dair CRAZY. They try so so hard to get them more "cultured" and meanwhile Serenate are just like actually no, we're gonna watch Legally Blonde for the 10th time this month and Dair pout but like...they secretly enjoy themselves.

This is not a headcanon but just want to state that Serenate are two golden retrievers and Dair are two black cats. That girls that get it get it.

-Anyway, Dair obviously is very competitive by nature and can't help but turn small things into little competitions every now and then. Who can unload the dishwasher faster? Who can read War and Peace faster? Who can make a better creme brulee? Shit like that. It's foreplay your honor

-Nate and Dan go through a simultaneous beard phase. Serena is indifferent. Blair proclaims to hate it she loves it

Most of my WIPs are Jojo at this point in time, but here's an excerpt of a Nate-centric traumafic that I never finished (but hope to finish at some point!)

✅ What’s something that appears in your fics over and over and over again, even if you don’t mean to?

Hmmm... hurt/comfort, I suppose. Trauma and identity issues, as well. A lot of the time I make the deliberate choice to write these, and naturally gravitate towards canons with have the space to dwell on these issues. But for me it's hard to write "everything was beautiful and nothing hurt" and easier/more intutive to write "some things hurt, and will always hurt, but the beautiful things make up for it anyway." I hope that makes sense, LOL.

📚 Would you ever want to turn writing into a career?

I wanted to when I was younger! I even gave it a genuine try as a teenager, multiple times. I think from age 16 - 19/20 I was doing my best to figure it out. I have published work (but it's under my deadname, so we don't talk about that) and I have queried manuscripts and like... my answer now, today, is both yes AND no. I have original characters and works in progress and a lot of things that I could, hypothetically, fine-tune enough to publish. But something I've learnt along the whole journey of like.. being this ambitious young writer and then settling comfortably into the fandom clubhouse is just that... it's important for me that my writing is fun, that I enjoy writing, and it makes me happy when people connect with my work. If both those aims are being met through fanfiction, I'm very content in this space.

That said, I would love to have a book out soon. One day. Maybe in a few years from now, who knows. I'm trying not to rush it, or force it. If it isn't fun/enjoyable to me, what's the point?
