"Awhh look, I see you really miss me much that you fetch me here before I do my chores?" Camilo teased as you step foot into the Casita, you rolled your eyes but still hugged him back.

"Stop being so ambicioso, milo"

"Fine whatever. Why were you here anyways?"

"Oh, I am finding your Tío Bruno" You said which made Camilo looked at you confused.

"You always see my Tío everyday and this is the 5th time of the week you keep on asking him where he is everytime"

"Yeah, you know I just want something. Nothing serious" You nervously chuckled as you saw his Tío and went to him leaving Camilo alone, as he narrowed his eyes while looking at the both of you at a distance.

"Does Y/N like Tío?" He asked himself, feeling weirded out.

"If its true, then the age gap is really..." Dolores suddenly showed up, hearing Camilo's thoughts as he held his hand to his chest, shocked at his sister's sudden voice.

"I mean Y/N and I are at the same age, maybe she admires my Tío...or idk ugh so frustrating!!"

"Why don't you just confess? I mean its easy to put that way?"

"I don't wanna ruin our friendship if I get rejected, hermana"

Dolores could juat sighed at his lovesick brother as he went to do the chores for the town, feeling displeased.

Everyone in town knew how cute your friendship with Camilo is. They would always see you hanging out near the fountain, the marketplace or just along the village. Some thought you two are together, but you two would messily stutter at the comment trying to deny when people obviously see that you have mutual feelings for each other.

But some would say that you two are just friends and tries to think that you are inlove with non other than, the Tío of your bestfriend which is Bruno. People know how you would always follow and seem to be pursuading Bruno about something. They thought you are crushing on him, that you would uninentionally ditch Camilo.

"BRUNOOO!!" You shouted as the people look at you, chuckling as they saw the scene. You on the back of Bruno, casually hanging on him as he deadpanned walk back to the Casita.

"Look kid—" He said as he let you settled down on the ground, holding both of your shoulders "—as much as I want to do it, I really can't"

"BUT WHYYYY, you do that to the others tho!"

"I mean yes but look here's a thing" He said crouching down at your level.

"Life isn't all about cupcakes and rainbows, we have to experience the downside of it and make mistakes along the way but that is how we grow. Now if I tell you, your vision with my sobrino. Its like you just going to confess to him because you know what is bound to happen, life is full of surprises and thats what makes it challenging. I want the both of you to face that challenge, without having an idea if it will gonna turn out good or bad. Okay? This is how you grow as a person, I don't want to just spoonfeed you about the things in your future. I don't want you to avoid those possible bad things that I told you because you are bound to experience it on your own"

He said and smiled at you as a rat suddenly appeared on the side of his shoulders, you sighed as you understand what he meant.

"Okay I get it. Gracias Tío"

"No worries, now I want you to confess to my sobrino soon. I am rooting for the both of you"

"Does that mean your vision is good for us??!"

"Ugh, not a chance Y/N. Adios!" He said and ran away leaving you into a frown as you scoff.

"Woah, I never saw Tío ran like that before. I mean sometimes when he is in a war with Camilo for arepas" Isabela suddenly showed up beside you, waving hi.

"Oh hey Isabela"

"You're asking Tío with his visions again don't you?"

"Yeah, I just. I want to know what lies ahead in my future" You sighed as Isabela patted your head.

"Your future will be great, trust me. I mean Camilo wouldn't let anything bad happen to you" She said winking as you blushed at her remarks.

Days passed you tried to convince Bruno to let you see your future but you would always fail. Chasing him for days made you forgot to hang out with Camilo.

He would always see you two sharings conversations with each other and it would be a lie if he would say he isn't jealous.

He was so tired with chores and the last thing he wanted was to hangout with you. Camilo was looking for you, as he saw you again with his Tío. He watched from the side, good enough to hear your conversations but still good enough to not be spotted.

"I appreciate you so much, Tío" He heard you say as he felt his heart clench.

"No worries Y/N. Its love we cannot stop feeling it" He heard his Tío Bruno said getting the wrong idea as he started to feel mad and upset, thinking you had confessed your admiration for his Tío.

He started walking away but he regret the moment he looked at the both of you, hugging as a smile visible on your face.

Camilo went back to the Casita, as he tried to stop the tears flowing in his eyes. Pepa who was coincidentally standing on the doors of Casita, noticed his son's mood.

"Camilo, are you—" A raincloud suddenly appeared as Pepa hugged his son, sushing him as she noticed a tear brimming unto his eyes. "—let it out to me, mi hijo, okay?" She said as Camilo suddenly burst into tears.

"Pepa, amor the clou—" Felix stopped as Pepa signalled him that their son is crying. Felix hugged his son as well as they both waited for Camilo to open up but it still seem to be sensitive about what happened.

Pepa lead her son to his room and let him rest. As the moment she went down, a thunderstorm suddenly appeared in her head.

"Pepa, why are you starting a hurricane??" Abuela said as Pepa noticed everyone is in the house looking at her.

"Mamá, Camilo came home crying. What else am I supposed to react?!?" She said frustrated as Felix calms her down.

"What?!! Why..Dolores do you have any idea who Camilo got into a fight?"

"Uhmm, he was actually more like got heartbroken by a misunderstanding..." Dolores doubtly speak as everyone was anticipating for her answer. She noticed her Mamá calmed down and no rain or thunder in her cloud.

"Camilo heard Y/N and Tío Bruno's conversation and thought Y/N confessed her love to Tío"

"WHAT?!" Everyone shouted as Dolores covers her ears.

"Okay, that is clearly a big misunderstanding. I mean seriously Y/N thinks of me as a big brother" Bruno said defending himself as he notice the stares of his hermana, Pepa.

"Then why are you two always together" Julieta asks trying to calm down the tension between the family.

"Y/N wants to know their visions of Camilo since she likes—loves him" Bruno said as they got shocked at the sudden bright rainbow appeared because of Pepa.

"Oh that's why. I got tell him so that he won't feel bad anymore!" Pepa said but was stopped by Mirabel.

"Tía, wait! We have a plan, don't worry leave it to us!" She said as Luisa, Isabela and Dolores gave her a thumbs up as she sighed.

Isabela and Dolores was having a hard time convincing Camilo to go in town to pursue their plan. Camilo just looks at them, not interested as he continues stuffing an arepa. Which his Tía made extra special for today, knowing it will help cheer up her sobrino a bit.

"I told you, I don't want to go out. I just want to be...alone"

"Promesa mi hermano, if you will go out Abuela wouldn't be mad of you getting seconds later" Dolores said dragging Camilo into his feet, as they succesfully did.

"Here, bring these" Isabela handed him a boquet of roses.

"Do you have these deliver to someone?"

"Uh Sí! And they need you to bring it so go shoo!" Isabela teased pushing Camilo, as the three of them went to the town.

On the other hand, Mirabel and Luisa were tasked to get you distracted at the mean time. You are hanging out in the fountain, waiting for Camilo without you knowing.

"You know, Camilo went home crying yesterday" Luisa said as you looked at her with wide eyes.

"What why?? I feel bad I wasn't there to comfort him"

"Don't worry! I mean you could ask him that today" Mirabel said trying to lighten up the mood as you nod.

The moment you went to fix your sandals, Mirabel and Luisa saw the others approaching as they secretly left you. As Isabela and Dolores continued pushing Camilo, and ran away.

As soon as you looked up, you locked eyes with Camilo as blushed was evident in both of your faces. Camilo knew by then, you set them both up as he sighed looking at his hermana and prima. Signalling him to give you the roses.

"Uh hi.." You awkwardly said and smiled which he did too.

"Uhmm for you. Isabela picked the best ones" He said as you take it and thanked him. After a small conversation, you decided to went to the hill. As this was what Mirabel suggested for you to hangout with Camilo, the moment you would see him as you realized they set this up.

You both arrived at the hill noticing a picnic set up and Bruno sitting...?

"Tío Bruno?" You both said at the same time as he smiled as a rat was in his shoulder.

The woman started when she heard her name. Just then, she was working on a barge song, and now her red haired companion was running towards her waving her arms in every which way imaginable.

“Yo, Nao, what’s up?”

“The new girl!” Nao bounced in place a few times “She woke up!”

Oh. That was definitely news she had to be present for. When Reko saw the young girl crying for the dead body near her and passed out, Reko knew she had to at the very least temporarily make her part of the crew. That was what her crew was anyways. People who had nowhere else to go. She didn’t know if the little girl had a place but as long as she didn’t know hers, she was going to stay with them.

“Thanks for telling me Nao. Lead me to her.”

“Roger!” The girl saluted and lead her to the bunks. They seemed to have cleared out aside from Sara, calmly assuring the girl everything was okay. Said girl seemed to have clutched onto a mop bucket for comfort, incapable of processing the world around her.

“Yo, Sara. Is it going well?”

The girl seemed to notice Reko and immediately recoil. Reko cringed at the sight of it-

“Guh- are you scared kid? It’s the eyepatch isn’t it? I can take it off if you want, it’s purely for cosmetics anyway-“

“N-n-no… it’s fine…” The girl wiped at her eyes. “Kanna is sorry to trouble you.”

“It’s no problem Kanna.” Sara repeated the name as to confirm what it was to Nao and Reko “Can you tell us if you have a family?”

“My… family?”

“It’s okay if you can’t tell us. Easy now…”

“Um… me and my sister… lived on our own… and… then some men came up to us asking for money…”

Muggers… what a bunch of shitheads. They killed a girl right in front of her little sister? For what reason?!

“Why I oughta-“

“Reko…” Nao squeezed her hand.

Ugh yeah. Maybe not the best time to express that sentiment.

“Well we have lots of people here. There’s Gin, Hinako, Alice, Kai, Kurumada, and Shin.”

“But… my sister…” Kanna had tears running down her face “My sister is dead! I DID NOTHING! ITS MY FAULT! WHY HER?! MY SISTER!”

“Kanna, Kanna-“ Sara tried patting her on the back and slowly, Kanna cried herself into exhaustion and passed out once again.

“….. She okay?” Reko asked once silence filled the room.

“Okay as she can be.” Sara filled the room.

“It’s so cruel…” Nao lamented “Do you think we should get somebody else here? Like Shin?”

“Huh? What’s that bandana bastard gonna do?”

“I-I don’t know! He just seems like the big brother type!”

“… Sara, your call.”

“… I say it’s fine. I’m keeping an eye on him though.”

“Got it.” Reko nodded “We’ll go get him. Sara you stay with her.”

I loved how the writers didn’t go down the cliché path of “arrogant wealthy family looks down on peasant”. They are both warm beans and I will protect and love them despite their lack of character sprites.

Honestly worth a re-read because there are so many epic scenes like these:

Example 1: MC introducing herself

Victor: MC, this is my father.

MC: Eh?

I just realized I had zoned out. I quickly introduced myself.

MC: How are you, dad?

Victor: …

Example 2: As part of their game of mahjong and subtle attempts at matchmaking, the winner gets to ask a player any question. Aunt Grace asks MC:

Victor’s father elbowed his sister and coughed mildly.

Aunt Grace’s face was full of regret as she said it.

I do see the appeal in his teasingly playful and unpredictable nature though

Tbh most of the date scenarios I want to see have already been done (e.g. domestic fluff, jealousy, interaction in a group setting with side characters and/or family members).

I’d love to see a date where MC get jealous for a change though! And dates where the more reserved guys let loose and show us their playful boyish side :D

Jon, Arya and the Childhood BFF to Lovers Trope: Or, why everyone ships J0nsa

I had an argument with my sister which was precipitated by her quipping “nobody likes childhood BFFs” and “hot new guy is always endgame.” I almost flipped a table. I sat there and I seethed for 30 seconds and then I texted her back PIRATES OF THE MOTHERFUCKING CARIBBEAN and I gotta say I was p pleased with myself because yes, Elizabeth and Will end up together even though Jack Sparrow exists and is indisputably hot.

My sister and I are reading Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. This is a story that sets out to deconstruct the trope of “It was always gonna be you and me,” and while my sister can crow all day about how Hot New Guy Gets the Girl, I want to examine why it makes thematic and structural sense for that to be endgame. I think it comes down to the protagonist, who seldom ventures out of her comfort zone and has trouble letting herself want things. The combination of extremely deep feeling and almost pathological constraint is what makes her story so compelling—because in the course of the novel she learns to unabashedly want things, to reach out and take them: and what she wants is the sardonic lacrosse-playing jock, not the Boy Next Door she’s had a crush on since forever. One of the running gags in the background is her nine-year-old little sister inventing increasingly far-fetched reasons she should be allowed to have a puppy, because the kid “knows what she wants and will do anything it takes to get it.” The contrast with hyper-repressed Main Character could not be more pronounced. I ask you, who does Main Character remind you of? Not Arya, for a surety. This is one thousand percent Sansa.

After the finale aired Jenny Han and some other YA authors were dragged on twitter for openly shipping J0nsa, which, I mean (a) it was more “ugh fan fiction” and “ew incest” and “think of the children!!1!” than anything specific to J0nsa (b) of course she ships J0nsa. Of fucking COURSE. J0nsa is not a childhood BFFs ship, because the whole point is that Sansa’s character development leads her to see Jon in a new light. It’s above all about Sansa’s arc and the scales falling from Sansa’s eyes and there isn’t room for someone who has always seen the value in Jon, who has always loved him best. Because that would not be sufficiently Pride & Prejudice-y. Allow me to remind everyone that Pride & Prejudice is (1) the ur-Romance novel and (2) about people changing their minds and revising their initial judgments. Ffs it was originally titled “First Impressions.” This is the dominant narrative wrt romantic love, then—that one must fall in love, that it must be accompanied by major character development and reevaluation of preconceptions. This is the appeal of Enemies-to-Lovers.

Listen, I don’t ship a pairing because I think it’s endgame; I ship it because I think it’s interesting. What I’m trying to do here is formulate a theory as to why so many people find Jon & Sansa’s dynamic interesting, as compared to the small handful of us who find Jon & Arya’s dynamic interesting. I’m not engaging with the people who are anti-incest on principle (if you’re not into incest this is maybe not the fandom for you). I think it has a lot to do with the sort of romantic stories we elevate and validate. Gendrya is a wildly popular ship, and it falls very much in the Childhood BFFs mold, but I think we can all agree that Gendry & Arya are not a finished product—they have a lot of stuff to work on, and what shippers are interested in is the process of them hammering it out. Jon and Arya though? They’re already president of each other’s fan clubs, where’s the tension or drama in that? The obstacles to their relationship are external and plot-driven rather than internal and character-driven. And I say unto you: This is Arya’s creation myth: Before there was anything, there was Jon. That’s it that’s my kink that’s the kind of all-encompassing bond I’m about. The absolute trust they repose in each other gives me LIFE. I’ve seen some J0nsas parry the “she’s not even his favorite sister” argument with “because she’s his wife not his sister” and like ... ok valid ig but the whole reason I’m interested in Jon/Arya is because they set no boundaries on their love?? They are each other’s e v e r y t h i n g. I mean if you want to read about two strangers fumbling their way towards feelings that’s fine but do not pretend to me that J0nsa is some kind of underdog ship. It’s the most basic of ships -- it’s a Pride & Prejudice ship. (Gendrya otoh is Persuasion, which is the best Austen novel don’t @ me.) For in-universe reasons why J0nsa undercuts Jon and Arya’s unconditional love this is a great post, but I’m going to stick to the meta reasons people ship what they ship.

Here is the thing I will die mad about: Everybody takes childhood BFFs for this hegemonic trope and wouldn’t it be so eDgY to subvert it by making her fall for a HANDSOME STRANGER instead. Jfc have you seen the biggest young adult franchises of the past decade? They are: Twilight, The Hunger Games, The Mortal Instruments. Spoiler alert none of the heroines end up with their childhood bffs. I know the love triangle is hardly the point of The Hunger Games but facts are facts. It’s been 150 years and the Little Women fandom is still generating twice as much Jo/Laurie fic as Jo/Bhaer fic because Louisa May Alcott did Jo March dirty by not letting her marry the man she clearly belonged with. I just think the idea of there being someone you belong with, always have and always will, is ultimate #goals and this is the hill i will die on.

I look at Sansa and Arya’s starting points, when it comes to Jon, and however their arcs resolve in the end I cannot imagine how you could retcon J0nsa into some kind of lifelong attachment?? Here is Sansa in the wake of Lysa’s death, mulling her options:

there was nowhere for her to go. Winterfell was burned and desolate, Bran and Rickon dead and cold. Robb had been betrayed and murdered at the Twins, along with their lady mother. Tyrion had been put to death for killing Joffrey, and if she ever returned to King’s Landing the queen would have her head as well. The aunt she’d hoped would keep her safe had tried to murder her instead. Her uncle Edmure was a captive of the Freys, while her great-uncle the Blackfish was under siege at Riverrun. I have no place but here, Sansa thought miserably.

She lists Tyrion among her potential refuges, without once mentioning Jon! TYRION. Unreal. Even Brienne weighs the possibility of Sansa going North to Jon, and Brienne has literally never even met Sansa:

though all her siblings had been slain, Brienne knew that Sansa still had an uncle and a bastard half brother on the Wall

In case anyone requires reminding, Arya takes every possible opportunity to suggest “hey we could go to the Wall instead of wherever we’re going!”:

"I know where we could go," Arya said. She still had one brother left. Jon will want me, even if no one else does.

Maybe I should go to the Wall instead of Riverrun. Jon wouldn't care who I killed or whether I brushed my hair

One of these girls has been trying to get back to Jon for going on four books now. The other one thinks about Jon Arryn more times in her POVs than she thinks about Jon Snow (18 Arryns out of 27 total hits for “Jon” in all Sansa chapters). I’m not saying Sansa hasn’t grown and changed, or that her reunion with Jon might not evolve into something interesting; it’s just not a dynamic I personally care about. I’m definitely not saying that authors deserve to be publicly shamed for shipping fictional characters, but I think an author’s shipping preferences are revealing and shed light on their choices as far as which stories they choose to tell. I’m saying I ship Jon/Arya and I accept it’s not the ship dynamic that appeals to most people but here I am.

the first character i ever fell in love with: Agent Kallus. It was either the promo video or the actual pilot episode itself, but in all likelihood, the sideburns were probably involved somehow. If anything, I will say that the second character is Tua, the moment she stepped into the shuttle way back in DoD. Like, yo.

a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: Darth Maul. But his usage of his EXPERIMENT 2000 DEGREE KNIFE on Kanan’s eyes, Ezra’s innocence, but most importantly, the Inquisition, is the last straw.

a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: Kanan/Seventh, since FPJ and SMG are married, yeah. Didn’t last long, since now it’s Fifth/Seventh and I don’t particularly trust a majority of the fanbase anymore to make legible, sane, and legal fanwork where Kanan isn’t in a relationship with Hera/where Seventh is in a relationship at all. Yikes.

my ultimate favorite character™: don’t make me choose

prettiest character: All the female characters look good, and as for the ‘handsome’ kind of pretty, Kallus, Kanan, and the prettiest Lasat in the Galaxy.

my most hated character: Kind of hard to like the I/r/o/n Squadron, since their episode had poor characterization for them, building solely off of them being S1 Ezra clones. They could definitely improve though! And I do have a few headcanons on what they’ve been up to since that episode.

* And I definitely LOVE Zeb, that’s why I hate how they keep… ‘minimizing’ him? Like in “Warhead”, as funny as it was, I didn’t like that the crew and the others were like 'woah you can think?’, 'that was actually very smart of you!’, 'ugh can’t you take charge of the base for one day without trouble’, etc. The writers are obviously trying to show us that Zeb is much more than muscle, but c'mon, really? This kind of stuff is how you treat the audience like they’re goldfish as well as disrespecting the character. Instead of conveying the message that 'Zeb is both smart and strong!’, it comes off more as 'Zeb is strong, but secretly smart!’ or something condescending like that.

my OTP: Mallus, yeah yeah yeah whatever

my NOTP: S/a/b/3/z/r/a, it seems clear to be that they’re just supposed to be like brother and sister. I don’t like a majority of the shippers because they seem to be missing the point (like I remember reading the comments of a clip of where Sabine hug-grabs Ezra in the jetpack chase scene and 90% of it was full of shippers that I swear couldn’t have been older than 12.), but I will say that I like some of the fanart.

favorite episode: “Droids In Distress” (I don’t know, I just watched it a lot back then; in hindsight, I’d say it was a good start to the show), “Empire Day”, “The Honorable Ones”, “The Forgotten Droid” (again, I don’t know, I just liked AP’s and Chopper’s dynamic), “An Inside Man”, “Trials of the Darksaber”, I can safely say “Through Imperial Eyes” because Kallus rests in pepperoni. 😎

saddest death: Hearing Tua died in tSoL way back during Celebration 2015 hit me pretty hard, actually.

favorite season: Season 1 + parts of Season 3, mainly the latter half so far.

least favorite season: Season 2 + the timeskip/transition to Season 3, because it felt like it was rushed; there’s a disconnect between the episodes, especially in the latter half (I suspect it’s due to the writers still being in a TCW mindset, where arcs with completely different stories happened one after the other — not that I’m saying that it’s okay for the writers to do, especially because their intent is obviously for SWR to be in a different format. It’s just that I can see why it happened and I hope that at this point in time, they can at least learn from their mistakes…).

So because of that, new information and the problems are just rapid-fire out of pretty much nowhere instead of foreshadowed or anything like that as well as being solved in a flash, like:

* Hera’s some years of father-daughter estrangement with Cham are dealt with in one episode.* The Inquisitors should’ve done more to build up their credibility, like I thought Seventh was gonna be a rival to Kanan and challenge him as a master to Ezra, but I guess that got given to Maul in the S2 finale.* Fifth is apparently blind, but they didn’t do nothing with that, they could’ve foreshadowed something about it with Kanan, and they also seemed like he was gonna be Seventh’s rival or something (at the time, I imagined it like Ventress and Grievous during TCW), but he ended up just being her lackey.* But no, and then everyone in-universe was like 'eh’, so that ended up being reciprocated by the audience as well.* Also, while we’re on that topic, as 'memetic’ as it was, helisabers really did worsen their credibility than it already was.* I honestly was kind of on the fence about Sabine for a while, since I didn’t like that nothing at least semi-permanently bad happened to her until Season 3 and I just generally don’t like haughty characters that don’t seem to struggle.* Kallus being smug for like the first half of tHO like he’s always been up to that point, and then when he tells his backstory, that attitude is GONE for the rest of the show and then we don’t even get to see the transition from him as a loyal and ruthless Imperial that seemed to enjoy the hunt, to someone who is about the exact opposite.* Ezra’s storyline suffers from something similar, like it looked like it was going somewhere with obsessing with the Sith Holocron and/or doing much more questionable things, but that only gets touched upon in SoS because all of it already happened during the timeskip, so by the time we see Ezra, it’s instead just an excuse for the writers to start having him do more action-y stuff and be problematic (like tWJ).

I like most of the ideas behind them, it’s just that there’s definitely much more to be desired out of them. Yeah, I guess they could do a novel/short story/whatever about these things like the timeskip developments, but that seems kind of sloppy, telling the explanation afterwards instead of showing it when it was the most relevant. I want the writers to respect their characters (and therefore, us) more. It’s certainly possible to do, but it’s not constant; it just comes and goes, as seen here and in TCW.

character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: I definitely like/love Chopper, but the memes about him being a Dark Lord or a Darth undercover or whatever are being run into the ground.

my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Agent Kallus, Governor Pryce. Inquisitors technically didn’t make the choice to be this way, so I didn’t count them here.

my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: the Inquisitors. And Tua.

my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Mallus, Fifth/Seventh, yeah.
