It's done. Kuuga is finished.

Okay so about this show: FUCKKKK

Anyway my actual thoughts with my random accompanying screenshots (and be warned of length)

Kuuga was fantastic. Genuinely think that was one of the most engaging Tokus I've seen. The pacing? Phenomenal. At the start it's a bit bare but that's alright. It grows on you as the episodes go by. The way the Grongi are structured works really well with the format because it allows for there to be a logical progression in both power and story. Speaking of, the way the story actually brings up the fights with the realization of the killings being different games. They make reference to early fights because they matter. Even if the format is two-part episodic, it works.

I love love love Godai. He's the sort of person who you want to be your friend. His optimism all the time is so infectious. That makes the few moments where he almost breaks that much more powerful. To see his fist clench and then to let it go away to talk about hope. Gahh. He handled his own exit so well because he said his goodbyes, did the fight, and then just left. Riders and their fucking love of walking off into the sunset to fight their own demons??? I want to kiss it.

Him and Kotaro just walked off to deal with their demons. Love them for it.

Now the supporting cast;

Each is fantastic in their own right. If I was to go out on a limb I feel like each is supposed to represent a different and unique human emotion or experience. I can't explain why. Don't ask. Godai's sister as a teacher acts both as someone who has faith in Godai while also showing the child element of the show. (Riders are supposed to be the protectors of kids right?) I absolutely adored the early bits of tension between the two siblings about Godai's transformations. Even in the later episodes when the kids are fighting and they're forced to solve the problem without Godai that was supposed to show how people can move on without him to protect those smiles.

Did I hear tension with Godai? Sawatari is best girl. I'm not fighting over this and will refuse to say anything else. But anyway the chemistry between her and Godai as close friends oozed from their scenes. Their fights over Godai's overall transformation and his habit of climbing through the window was so... real. He literally stays to help her finish her thesis??? How can you ask for more from a friend??? And even in the end she leaves the window open ready for his return someday. Also I'm a simp for archeologists. This is non-negotiable.

Now Tsubaki is a goat. I am a sucker for the "I'm so over helping you for a friend but I'm going to slowly become besties with you" doctors. His stupid flirting attempts and way of joking bounced off Godai was just perfect, even when the latter was knocked out. Plus he was a man on a mission, who failed at getting the girl in the end because my age ass still loves you.

Enokida. The disaster mom of the year. Honestly even if her parts weren't the main focus she was really good. The show did a really good job of showing the real mental effects of a situation like the show presents and doesn't talk down to people about it. Even in the end with her very subtle (I hope not) relationship with Jean that sort of just blossomed was handled really well. The little confirmation with the Disneyland thing??? My heart man.

I also heart the other few reoccurring cops. Gotta love them for putting up with the bullshit. And trying.

So the other more minor characters, I genuinely really enjoyed and loved how the show kept bringing them up. No one was really 'forgotten' by the plot for a one episode thing. People came back. Godai's teacher is a great example, same with Miku. They acted as great vessels for the smaller episodes scale wise and helped with the fluff. Even Minori's other teacher friend that was pregnant. God she's a character I would genuinely write an essay on. The episodes where she worries aloud for her kid and still has hope was so good. Fantastic writing. And even she came back in the end with her baby!!!

So about Ichijo. I think as a deuteragonist he is perfection. The way he tries to be a stone cold cop who focuses on his job and overworks himself like Enokida who both poke fun at each other because of it. Being a cop lets him have those moments alone in the car having those brief times of doubt. The way him and Godai bounce off each other in this very relatable way was so well done. The show doesn't need to sell you on the trust they have, it just lets itself speak. With the way he goes after B1 and their encounters are so unique. Her saying she would be with him??? Gahh. And she even called him a warrior, a man without powers except for his quick thinking and guns. Plus he also rides a motorcycle?? Something is absolutely magical about that man. And I'm not just talking about the fact he was the one who touched face with everyone afterwards. He cares so much. He even smiles more 😭. The final battle was also so unique with their interactions beforehand. He is tasked with taking Godai down in case things go south and the trust just oozes out of the scene. The worry on his face and even the simple fact Godai never properly said goodbye to him. It's implied I guess but their last exchange was about watching over the other. Afterwards too with his apology to Godai about getting him involved just makes my heart ache. Such a strong character.

Quick note; the Grongi are cool. Mad that the official subtitles actually have translations for their language but the other version doesn't. They had the lighting drip and the human form drip. Felt like a couple of them to beat anyone in a rizz off. Their actual monster forms were good but I will say I kinda wish I could've been able to tell their original animal/plant inspiration. Black made it obvious where RX was just difficult sometimes. The two leaders had so much presence. I mean she used fucking rose petals and had a white rose on her forehead with a red feather boa. Even the officer who stayed in the sides taking note of the numbers was so good. You cannot beat that.

The opening and endings were really good and the flipping of the verses were good. The visuals were on point too. The OST was alright overall with not many memorable tracks besides those.

So overall a fantastic show. I genuinely enjoyed it and would easily recommend it if you've gotten this far. I can't say more than just watching the show and I didn't even touch on the novel or manga.

9/10 or 10/10 depending on my mood. And I'll keep smiling for you Godai.

BL Reclist - Part 2

Happy Friday friends! I had a blast putting my first BL reclist together a couple weeks ago and the lovely @blue-inigo encouraged me to do a part 2 so here it is! Once again this is a mix of Korean titles I’ve discovered recently and some good old Japanese BL I revisit often. I kept this short and sweet because I can only include 10 pics per post but I’m considering a Part 3 with some ongoing stories I’m currently following (there’s a couple on this list but they’re a bit more advanced). Now I’m revising it I realize this second list is considerably angstier than the first one, and almost all of these include potentially triggering themes (marked with an *) so please check the tags and stay safe! If you’re looking for gorgeous art, hot smut and top notch (if sometimes quite problematique) drama you’re at the right place! Enjoy 🔥

1. *December Rain by Kimon (Explicit, Completed)

Tragedy :( gimme catharsis or give me nothing!!

Fresh out of the army, Suchae decides to take some time off and travel around the country by himself. On the first day of his trip, he spots a guy who looks totally his type at a rundown bus terminal. The only problem is, it’s the same guy who was jerking off in the bathroom 5 minutes ago. Despite the possibility of him being a creep, however, Suchae is drawn to the mysterious stranger. He finds everything about him...arousing. Who is this stranger? And why is he on the road?

2. Joy by Etsuko (Mature, Completed)

Not my fave art-wise but a surprisingly deep bi awakening story, MC is cute and SO relatable

Goh Akazaki is a 26-year-old man...who happens to be a shojo manga artist. His assistant is Yusuke Akune, who happens to be a mangaka in his own right. But when Goh accidentally finds out that Yusuke is gay, he's thrown for a loop—what else about his friend doesn't he know? And when Goh is asked to draw BL, he tries to pry into Yusuke's experiences for inspiration...but when he is ultimately inspired by the idea of "unrequited love for Yusuke," can he keep his own feelings out of the mix?

3. NightS + Reply by Yoneda Kou (Explicit, Completed)

I’m so biased about Yoneda Kou’s Yakuza stuff, everything she creates is an instant fave

NIGHTS: A Yakuza comes to request the services of an specialized transporter that takes care of delicate and illegal merchandise. It seems this transporter is quite picky about his clients, stating that he doesn't belong to any group; you can't trust yakuza. However he gets interested in this transaction and in the mysterious man that is negotiating it.

REPLY: Seki is head mechanic at a car company in which Takami is the top salesman. After a chance encounter at work that involves Seki taking care of a spot of bother for one of Takami's clients, the two begin meeting regularly after work to dine together. Takami soon admits that he thinks of Seki as a good friend. Seki, however, knows that his own emotions are somewhat more complicated.

4. *Nights Before Night by Kazuki Natsume (Explicit, Completed)

Sequel to MODS, I suggest reading both for full context but I prefer this story

It's been a long time since Haru, owner of the gay escort service "Rain," left his yakuza days behind. But when the Ichijo clan, the group he had once belonged to, says he's the only civilian they can trust to hide the clan head's troublemaking son Yukitaka in line, there seems to be no choice for him but to follow suit. There's just one problem, though - Yukitaka looks just like his half-brother Shigure, Haru's lost love.

5. Pink Heart Jam by Shikke (Explicit, Completed)

Long-haired one is the prettiest and coolest BL character I’ve ever seen

Country boy Haiga has many questions he wants to learn the answers to when he moves to the bustling capital for his university life - and one of them happens to be, "do I like guys, too?" When his upperclassmen dare him to check out a box spa behind Shinjuku's Nichoume District, Haiga uses this opportunity to find out the answer to his question - and runs into his senior Kanae, who has one simple solution for him - clothes, off!

6. *Steel Under Silk by Snob (Explicit, Ongoing)

BREATH!!! TAKING!!!! ART!!!! A+ problematic smut meets nuanced historical drama, love it

Yeonjo used to have it all: a highly respected family, a kind brother, and a comfortable life. Now, with his father executed for high treason, his last kin dead, and damned to a lifetime of slavery, Yeonjo has nothing to lose. All that is left is vengeance, and his chance comes when the new governor assigned to the region is none other than Kwon Hee-ryang, the man who destroyed everything Yeonjo loved. Now, Yeonjo will do everything to get his revenge…even if it means getting in bed with his greatest enemy. 7. *The Pizza Delivery Man and the Gold Palace by U-pi (Explicit, Ongoing)

Came for the hot guys, stayed for the excellent depiction of mental health issues.

Woo-won is a pizza delivery guy down on his luck, and Seo-an is wealthy man suffering from panic attacks and social phobia. You wouldn’t think these two would have any reason to get to know one another, but one small kindness leads to a series of encounters that bring the two men closer together than either of them anticipated. Maybe they can find the solutions to their problems together…or perhaps they don’t need solutions, but simply each other.

8. *Walk on Water by Jang mokdan / Jaxx (Explicit, Completed)

Two hot porn daddies actors falling in love 🥵

Starring in gay porn was never on Ed’s bucket list. He’s straight, he’s not an exhibitionist, and he has a decent career in security. That said, he also has a debt that he’s been working to pay off for years now, and he can barely keep up with the accruing interest. If having gay sex in front of a camera is the way to digging himself out of this pit, then he’s willing to be filmed for that money shot. But when he meets Glenn, the charismatic CEO of a gay porn production company, Ed finds himself falling into something much deeper than financial debt.

9. Wolf in the House by Park ji-yeon (Mature, Completed)

Hilarious & sweet, with the most intimate sex scenes I’ve ever seen! Feel-good story 👇🏼

After ending an on-again, off-again relationship of 10 years, Minsuk decides to foster a Siberian husky named Bexan to mark the start of his new single life. He can’t wait to cuddle with his new furry roommate, take him on walks, and play fetch. But Bexan is no ordinary dog...and when night falls, Minsuk is in for a surprise.

10. *Yuuutsu na Asa by Hidaka shoko (Explicit, Completed)

Another problematic historical drama, good old master/butler classic

Upon his father's death, Akihito Kuze became a viscount at the age of 10. His smart, handsome young butler Tomoyuki Katsuragi has since managed all affairs pertaining to the viscountcy perfectly. The talented and charismatic Katsuragi is very popular in their social circle; but as Akihito grows older, he becomes colder and more distant by the day - though still as faithful to the Kuze household as he has ever been. Akihito is now a young man, and desperately in love with Tomoyuki. He’s determined to discover the reason behind his butler's inexplicable behaviour, and this is where their story begins.

The Twins' Ethnicity (Migi & Dali Observation)

One thing that I haven't really seen talked about is the question of Migi and Dali's ethnicity. Of course, this is probably not important and likely has no bearing on the overall story and its greater messages. But I could be wrong, so who knows.

tl;dr: The boys are likely of French descent from their mother's side.

Below, I will elaborate and provide evidence towards this claim. Do note that *spoilers* from throughout the story will be mentioned.

One thing any reader/viewer will notice almost immediately is that the twins are not like the other people around them. Not only due they have blue eyes (which only Eiji shares), but they are also blonde (no, Youko doesn't count since she wears a wig). This is not surprising since the story takes place in Japan, and these traits are quite uncommon. In Chapter 1 of the manga, Youko takes note of this fact:

Later, it is confirmed that Migi and Dali were the result of an affair between their mother Metry and Akira Ichijo. Assuming that Akira is mostly or fully Japanese given his name and appearance, it's likely that the twins are half-Japanese and that their "foreign blood" comes from Metry, who strongly resembles them.

To begin, it should be safe to assume that Metry is most likely of European origin. However, based on clues from the story, we can make a stronger conclusion, that Metry was French, and so the twins are likely half-French and half-Japanese, or something like that.

The biggest clues should come from the Ichijo house in which the twins were conceived and born in. After all, Reiko hired Metry to be her housekeeper, so it wouldn't be surprising if Reiko had an affinity towards Metry's culture.

Without further ado, here's the evidence I could come up with:

Based on the left/right meaning of the twins' names, it is likely that Metry is short for "symmetry" or "symétrie" in French. It's possible that Métrie was actually how her name was to be spelled.

The "Water Flea Song" that the twins remember when they were staying in the Ichijo confinement room was actually the song Clair de Lune, which means "moonlight" in French, and was composed by the French composer Debussy.

In Chapter 19 of the manga, the Ichijos have breakfast, which consists of croissants, and I think that a French omelette may have also been shown. There's also something about the Ichijo dinner table that just screams "French" to me, though I can't quite find the right way to describe it. I'm sure that someone with a better understanding of French cuisine can.

When Eiji asks for a kiss from Sali (Dali), he uses the word baiser, which means "kiss" in French.

When Eiji tries to send Reiko away so that he can talk to Sali (Migi), he specifically asks her to buy pain de campagne (a French sourdough bread) from Descartes (a bakery with a French name).

When Reiko discovers Sali (Migi) in the attic, she attempts to attack and later chases Migi with a baguette.

Not a clue, but there's just something about Dali's timeskip appearance that gives me "French intellectual/mathematician" vibes. I can't really find the right way to describe it.

Dali mentions that Migi's art is a form of cubism, whose origins can be traced back to Paris, France.

The final shot of the anime shows a tribute to Nami Sano, which is written in French.

In the sequel manga, Dali is seen reading what appears to be a Japanese translation of La Preuve, which was originally written in French by the Hungarian writer Agota Kristof.

Hopefully, this is enough evidence to support this seemingly silly hypothesis. I do wonder if there are any particular reasons why Sano references French culture, but for now I can't really think of anything.

migi to dali............

Right...i watched it while feeling sick and i was in pain from so many things already that i could only be numb at that point. Dali...Eiji.......i wish we had more time for the scene with just the 2, i really want to see them talk more. Would you say that mrs ichijo played a grounding role for eiji to form his personality around in a similar way migi and dali used to be before they each developed into their own people, or am i perhaps looking at it wrong... i do hope we see eiji manage to outgrow that bond and find his own path beyond being the perfect child. But there's a lot of guilt to come to terms with that i just dont think he can do on his own, from accidentally killing his real mother as a kid, to purposefully killing his maternal figure and failing to join her, to accepting all the wrongs said maternal figure has committed for him at the end of the day.

I dont think we have much time left, but i'll be quite sad if everyone else gets to grow as characters except him, stuck in the past and behind bars (on another note, he also pleaded guilty for killing micchan, right? Well I managed to hurt myself here, being a known fan of when children pay for their parents crimes in fiction...)

I have to say though, a fucked up familial relationship has got to be one of the most fascinating dynamics out there. I have thoroughly enjoyed the show.

And shout out to micchan's ghost saving the day. I didnt think she could do it again after she, yknow, died a few episodes ago, but i was proven wrong.

This is an appreciation post for one of my favourite characters in vampire knight franchise:

Takuma Ichijo

I am just one of the biggest fan of Kaname and Takuma's friendship. This was one of the most beautiful friendship I have seen in the entire series . Cause every other friendship just turned into romance .

Let's talk aside from Kaname , he protected shiki's body even when he was under Rido's control , even if he had to betray Kaname , yet he didn't, he helped Kaname anyway he can . He stayed by Sara's side to help kaname , though I won't say that he never once faltered , he did . He even tried to stop the fight between Kaname and yuki by making zero a hostage, he also followed Kaname , perhaps just to see the end of the story but he did . Zero was fighting by Kaname's side yet he didn't realise where did kaname go , but it was Takuma who noticed it , even asked him it's futile to stop you right . Everyone who told Kaname they loved him left him yet he stayed and stayed.

Can't Help Falling In Love With You Chapter 8

Masterpost Midorima had spent the next few days just getting to know you better. How you had sleeping problems because all your mother could afford was a small studio apartment in a building invested with mice. Your creepy neighbor that had snorted his way into a psychosis and who had threatened your mother's life with a crossbow the other day. How your underage drinking had started at the tender age of 5. That you were still this smart despite for drinking for so long made Midorima honestly impressed with your intelligence. In turn he told you about how outside of Takao he didn't really had any friends at Shutoku, and how the closest thing he previously had to a best friend had lost his mind and given into an alternate personality. You had been willing to listen to him ramble about the whole Akashi mess, telling him it was only fair as he was helping you through a friendship breakup of our own. You were a wise person who gave some surprisingly good advice. Midorima was thankful for receiving your gracious words and he wondered if living a tough life like yours had aged you beyond your years. He felt guilty for being so grateful for it. His parents were too oblivious to notice something was going on, but Shinju seemed to notice how often her brother was distracted with his phone. She kept side-eyeing him whenever he was on his phone, and he knew someday sooner or later she was going to confront him and tease him about his crush like many a pest would- and if younger siblings were anything, they were pests. Even sweet little Shinju had her moments, no matter how rare they were. At school, you generally drifted by him. You didn't pounce on him and allowed him to warm up to you, generally sticking to Ichijo during breaks. Though you did greet him every time he passed by now, Ichijo often waving him by as acknowledgement. This was quite acceptable to him. He didn't really knew how he felt about being associated with not just you, but also the mess that was Ichijo who had landed himself in the infirmary again for being too lucid on school grounds. According to Takao earlier that day, the boy had been tripping balls. He wondered how the story between the two of you went. He decided to ask you now school was over and the two of you could go back to conversing without any noisy student being interested. He sat on his bed as he texted,

'Ichijo was a mess again today, nandayo. If I may ask, what's his story?'

A while later, his phone buzzed and he received his answer.

'Ichijo is a bit of a long story. His parents are missionaires who live at the edge of our 'ghetto', they claim they are here to save our souls. If you ask Ichijo, its just them ego jerking and wanting to be perceived as 'selfless heroes'. Ichijo used to run away a lot as a kid and would just sleep at whatever safe dumpster he could find. I began to notice and would carry around a spare bento. It's how we became friends.'

Midorima was quite surprised at the revelation Ichijo was being raised religiously but he heard about too strict parents with an holier then thou attitude before. As well as how their kids would often grow up to rebel against their parents and the church. He couldn't help but wonder indeed, what kind of actual good parents would endanger their kid by purposefully chosing a dangerous neighborhood? But Midorima could see how you, caring as you were, would look out for the needy and would be so generous to carry around food for them. His respect for you grew every day too, not just his love. You had been dealt a tough life but you carried through it with a graceful strength, one that left Midorima speechless. You were more then a girl, and Midorima admired you for it from the bottom of his heart.

STORY DESCRIPTION

The year is 2045 AD. Humanity has been wiped out from the Earth due to repeated wars and environmental pollution. The people who have been left behind have made a life together in an underground shelter.

Leaning on each other, there are two brothers who live in a rundown apartment. Igarashi Souji (Fujiwara Itsuki), the older brother who is quick to get into fights but who cares for his friends, and Sho (Shinya Seiji), the kind and gentle younger sibling who writes about his life with his brother in his diary. Having been raised in the shelter since birth, they have never seen the starry night sky, and their dream is to see stars that are real.

Watching over the two brothers, the one who also taught Souji how to fight, is the junk seller Saginuma (Nakamura Seijiro). First Impression: Those Not-So-Sweet Boys

Those Not-So-Sweet Boys is about Midori Nanami, a poor high school student whose family is saddled with debt. On her first day of high school, she accidently drops her wallet. Rei Ichijo, a fellow classmate, is able to get it back for Midori after it is found by a group of delinquents. Midori wants to thank Rei for helping her out, but before she can do so, she finds out that Rei, along with two other boys he frequently hangs out with, Chihiro and Yukinojo, have all been suspended from school. As she tries to move on, she is caught by the school’s chairman while leaving from her part-time job. Since students are not permitted to have part-time jobs, he gives her two options: either she will be suspended and lose her scholarship, or she has to bring the three boys back to school. Left with no choice, Midori will do everything in her power to bring them back before midterms start. But is that easier said than done? Those Not-So-Sweet Boys is a classic example of the poor girl x rich boy(s) trope in the shoujo genre, but somehow manages to feel somewhat fresh. I like how Midori manages to be your fun and bubbly shoujo protagonist, but is strong enough to not be a doormat. And while the boys seem like a trio of typical spoiled rich kids, they are actually just a bunch of big softies, especially when it comes to Midori. So far, it’s a fun dynamic to read. Since this story is (technically) a reverse harem, you’ll probably have a tough time picking out your favorite (even if the ultimate “winner” is pretty predictable). Volume one is already hinting at some angst, but I hope it won’t bring down the generally light-hearted tone of the series. If you’re looking for another shoujo series to add to your to-read list, Those Not-So-Sweet Boys may be a worthy addition.

How do you think that scenario will turn out?

Oh, see, the thing is, I think Godai's known the old man for a long time. Longer than most of his friends, in fact, longer than Ichijo, at this point he's known the old man longer than anyone but Minori and Kazari.

Picture this: Godai Yusuke, seventeen years old, gangly and awkward and a little concerned that his sister's panicking about now because he kind of maybe left without telling her, but he sent her a postcard from the airport when the plane landed, it'll be ok, he's sure she'll understand. It was a wild impulse, really. He wanted to go on an adventure.

So now he's in a town where he doesn't speak the language very well, and he's heard they're having some kind of crime problems but that's not going to stop him from exploring. Anyway, he's got to eat something, so he's sitting in a cafe that's open to the street and having a meal that he's promised to wash dishes for, and then some punks who barely look older than he is show up and start getting into it with the cafe owner, which isn't great already and then they start pulling out guns.

And this old guy a couple of tables over from Yusuke stands up and starts talking to them. He's very calm. Kind of friendly, even. Yusuke can't understand much of what he's saying, but he's definitely trying to get them to put the guns away.

Ten minutes later, the guns are still out, and the old guy kind of sighs and pushes his sleeves up his arms.

Five minutes after that, the guns are no longer operational, the punks are mostly unconscious except for one who's just sitting there looking dazed, and the cafe's a little bit of a mess. So Yusuke, who's been watching the entire thing from a spot right in front of the counter so that the cafe owner's kid can stay out of sight, starts standing the chairs and tables back up, and also folding all of the napkins into animal shapes because the kid was definitely crying and this is getting her to smile again. After a minute the old guy comes over and helps him straighten up, and they talk about traveling and don't bother introducing themselves and it's just kind of nice, and then they go their separate ways.

Anyway, they run into each other every once in a while and never introduce themselves. The old guy's just Gramps; Yusuke's just Boy. They see each other in Nepal in late 1999, and then when Yusuke flies back home Everything Happens, and then when they run into each other again in Mexico in mid-2001 the old guy looks at him, looks for a long time, and then buys him dinner, which is weird because normally they just pay for themselves.

Yusuke doesn't tell him about it. That's fine. There's definitely stuff Gramps doesn't tell him about either.

They keep running into each other. They never talk about it. Yusuke's pretty sure Gramps knows anyway.

Fast forward to 2020, Aruto's in kind of an out-of-the-way town to talk to the leader of a local Humagear rights group. Well, and also to be a mediator between them and local law enforcement, because there's been a crime problem in the area and people are trying to blame the Humagears and it's causing problems for the activists. The meeting's not until tomorrow, though, he's got some time, so he goes out to visit a cafe with a famously good Humagear cook and see how she's doing. He's sitting in the outdoor seating area with her, in the middle of a conversation about what the town is like, when some jerks on motorcycles show up and start getting into it with the owner of the convenience store next door, which isn't great already and then they start pulling out guns.

And this sort of ordinary-looking middle-aged guy, who's sitting over in the corner of the cafe eating lunch with another guy who's probably his dad, stands up and starts talking to them.

Santa Claus (Migi & Dali Thought)

It's a bit curious that Santa Claus was mentioned a couple times in the story, and I want to talk about it a bit in this post.

Note that spoilers for the whole story are mentioned.

I wanted to talk about this because Santa is heavily associated with Christmas, which has much significance in the story:

On Christmas night, Metry died trying to take back Eiji, who believed that Santa had come to visit him.

When Dali is interrogating Eiji using the Sali persona and asks about the Christmas photo, Eiji brings up Santa and asks Sali if Santa had visited her, to which Sali responds saying that Santa had never came, a clear reference to Dali's tragic past.

The conclusion of the main story takes place during the Christmas season, with repeated mentions of Santa and presents while Dali is forcing himself into Migi's shadow.

On Christmas Day, Dali received his first Christmas present (from "Santa"), and after he was accepted by the Sonoyamas and was encouraged by Migi, he finally left the shadows and accepted himself and his new happy life with them.

Thus, there should be some purpose and meaning behind Sano’s usage of Santa Claus and Christmas.

As most people know, Santa can be seen as a symbol of generosity, childhood innocence, hope and belief, as well love, kindness, and compassion, which were things that Eiji had throughout his childhood. Sure, it wasn’t healthy to live under Reiko’s care, but Eiji was blessed in his childhood, unlike the twins who experienced nothing but hardship. That’s why Dali was angry when Eiji asked about Santa, as he only had loneliness, trauma, grief, neglect, disillusionment, and isolation throughout his childhood, and was likely jealous of Eiji who had such a great life. Santa never coming to Dali could symbolize a loss of his innocence and the fact that Dali’s dreams and desires were never met.

After the twins returned home from the Ichijo house after the fire, Migi finally got to experience the happy family life he’s always wanted, yet Dali stayed in the shadows. He seemed happy that his beloved brother would finally get “visited by Santa”, but I’m pretty sure that Dali wanted it too. Yet, he forced himself into Migi’s shadow likely because of his guilt and self-loathing stemming from the aftermath of his revenge, which is reinforced by the idea that Santa only gives gifts to good children. Indeed, while Dali saw Migi as good, he saw himself as bad, unforgivable, and undeserving of happiness. That could explain why he was so shocked to see that he received a present too. But more importantly, the real present he received was love, a family’s love, something that he didn’t have but wanted deep down for so very long, which is highlighted in his crying during breakfast, as it was asserted to Dali that he was a good boy and deserved happiness too.

A comment on a previous post of mine asked whether this was a Christmas story. In my opinion, it sure is. Although the story is quite dark with elements of revenge, it strongly aligns with many core Christmas themes such as joy, love, family, forgiveness, and redemption, and the fact that pivotal plot events occurred on Christmas certainly cements this idea. That's one reason why I view this story really as Dali's story rather than the twins', as it was all about Dali's struggle in overcoming not just his dark past but his own sins as well as himself, and it was through love and family that he was finally able to accept himself and find redemption.

Chosen Child

A giant humanoid insect saves Keiwa from falling off of the floating city.

A/N: I chose Stingmon to be Keiwa's Digimon Partner to have a full circle moment as Stingmon was a reference to Kamen Rider Kuuga, alongside Ken Ichijouji [the detective Ichijo equivalent], and Keiwa shares a lot of characteristics to a lot of Heisei Era Main Riders.

"Really Keiwa? You're fighting without me?" A green humanoid insect caught Keiwa as he fell from the hole Michinaga just threw him in.

"Stingmon."

"I thought we were a team?"

"The thing is, Stingmon, I'm not fighting Digimon this time around," Keiwa admitted. "I couldn't use you to fight non-Digimon."

"You know, you always could."

"You know why I won't do that."

"Because it wouldn't be fair, I know." Stingmon shook its head.

"Since you're here, help me save the people from falling." Keiwa asked his partner.

"With pleasure."

Stingmon placed his partner on his shoulder before they began flying below the floating city, catching all the people that were falling from the said floating city.

"Keiwa!" Sara rushed to her brother as soon as he dismounted from his partner and detransformed out of his suit. "Thank you for saving Keiwa, Stingmon."

"I will always be there to save Keiwa, Sara-chan." Stingmon stated before he glowed blue and turned into a green worm that lazed on Keiwa's shoulders.

"Keiwa, I thought I lost you!" Sara hugged her brother as tight as she could as if she remembered something horrible.

"It's okay nee-chan," Keiwa assured his sister. "Please don't hold it against Michinaga-san, he's lost a lot in this tournament."

"We too, have lost a lot too, and you don't see us killing people left and right." Sara scoffed. "Who gave him the right to kill who he likes?"

"No one, just… let me handle him, okay nee-chan?"

"What if…"

"I'll be with him this time, Sara-chan."

"Wormmon… please."

"Tycoon."

"Ace."

"Buffa said…"

"He did eliminate me so to speak, but I have my own savior." Keiwa petted the oversized worm on his shoulders.

"How…"

"You're not the only one who has saved this world from time to time, Geats."

Keiwa retrieved a small red and green device from his person. It glowed red and green for a bit before the worm on his shoulders glowed blue and changed into an oversized humanoid insect.

"You were one of those…"

"To be fair, time travel was involved and all of us came from different worlds." Keiwa smiled. "It didn't occur to me until it was revealed that you have memories of your past life."

"But, I remember telling only one of you when you visited that time."

"True, you didn't tell me that fact, and that Ace wasn't part of the Grand Prix," Keiwa nodded. "Being one of the decision makers of the group made me privy to that fact."

"I'm guessing you weren't Sakurai Keiwa back then?"

"We all swapped first and last names, one of us was a kidnapped princess after all," Keiwa leaned on one of the cylindrical pillars of the building. "For everyone's safety, we all suggested to swap names and the eldest of us gave us a different kanji for our new name."

"Clever."

"Not to brag, but it was the princess who suggested the different kanji."

"Oh? A first crush?"

"Shut up!"

"Still what are you going to do?"

"What I do best, gate crash." Keiwa smirked.

"Your group was always good at gate-crashing events."

"Can I join?" Keiwa jumped from the roof and landed in the spot between Michinaga and Ace.

"Tycoon, you fell."

"But I was saved," Keiwa countered.

"So this is it, I thought you abhorred cheating, Tycoon."

"I told you I won't give up on trying to get the world's happiness back, Michinaga-san, and I won't start now," He caressed a red and green device. "You can have your fight with Ace, I'll continue to save the people from this ridiculous game you've come up with."

"Haaa? Save? You'd only be saving a small number, you're only just one person."

"That's why I'm here." A flying humanoid insect landed behind Keiwa and towered over the three men.

"You're colluding with a monster now?" Michinaga scoffed.

"Think whatever you like, Michinaga-san." Keiwa shook his head. "Let's go, Stingmon." He stepped onto his partner's hands before they flew off.

"I've met him in one of my past lives," Ace shared. "He was part of a group and claims to be one of the decision makers of the group, but his friends tell me otherwise." He equipped his driver with the Magnum buckle. "He was the leader in their group of friends and his decisions have saved all of them countless times."

"So he's not as naïve as we all thought," Michinaga scoffed. "What difference does it make?

"It makes sense why he's able to ask for our help the first time around."

"You're not making any sense, Geats." Michinaga scoffed at the idea. "Regardless, after I deal with you, I'm making sure Tycoon is eliminated."

"Let's see about that."

------

And so the round ended inconclusively, before anyone knew it, the statue crumbled into piles of dust.

"Wha-"

"Oh-ho, He went in big." Ace stopped his attacks to look at the crumbling statue.

"How."

"Simple, Tycoon has the firepower to spare, especially with Stingmon by his side."

"Heh, I thought it was Tycoon who destroyed the statue, it was just his monster."

"That monster is a part of him so technically it's Tycoon who destroyed the statue."

Michinaga simply scoffed before leaving the premises.

"You live up to the name of your group "Chosen Children" Kurama Takeshi, no, Sakurai Keiwa.
