Ice Age is the best found family series ever literally no other media has anything on this series and no one talks about it. I’ve just finished watching the second movie and they have ended both movies so far with the gang walking off into the sunset the point of the first movie was these three guys taking care of a kid and the end of the second movie is Sid asking Manny for a dog, Ellie calling Diego and Sid Manny’s kids, and Manny saying to Ellie “we have to be consistent with him” bc after Manny said no Sid asked Ellie for a dog and she said yes LIKE THEY ARE THE MOSR FAMILY TO EVER FAMILY WTF

🧊 manny, sid, diego, and of course, i had to draw scrat getting his acorn 🥲

those first two movies were quite literally my childhood: i remember seeing the first one with my brother when it came out (and my friends and i pretty much spent most of the summer quoting from it and we even tried our hand at written, collaborative fanfiction: it was between us but still). saw the second one with my cousins the day it came out: i wasn’t feeling well but i wanted to see it to lift my spirits (and boy, it sure did 😅).

and then… well, i’m not too sure what happened after that. i got older and looked for more cartoons to watch and love (started making my own, too), and the series underwent the similar treatment as what happened to shrek: got a bunch of sequels and spinoffs and became just another kids’ show under disney’s omnipresent hand when blue sky shut their doors a couple of years ago.

but like with star wars, the simpsons, family guy, pretty much anything that was on cartoon network prior to the great recession, and south park, i go back to the roots of it all, before money took over. it’s really wild to me how much i loved as a kid that started to go sideways after money started rolling in and it makes you appreciate the short-lived stuff as well as the beginnings of it all, and in a way, it does make me hopeful for the future: artists, writers, and creators from all around can keep their heart in it for the long haul. but i still think about the first and second ones, though: hearing ray be surly, down-on-his-luck mammoth, denis be a total badass, and johnny legs’ wet lisp is forever burned into my memory. 🦣🦥🐅

Last night I had a dream that Sid from Ice Age made a wish that he never existed (à la "It's a Wonderful Life") and found himself stuck in a world where he never existed, therefore the events of the Ice Age movies never happened. Manny was still depressed as all heck, Diego had successfully killed the baby without Sid to stop him and was now Soto's second-in-command, and Sid had to convince them that this reality was wrong and that they had to find a way to fix this and return the right reality.
