what art program do you use nowadays? in what ways do you prefer it to firealpaca?

I use clip studio paint! If you'd asked this a couple yrs ago I would've given you a CSP salespitch but actually rn CSP has switched to a subscription based model and have discontinued the download of their 1.0 version, which I currently use (CSP 2.0 and any other newer versions are subscription based I think).

So. I decided to give firealpaca a fair chance before I got back to you because I'm petty and I think any program that isn't subscription based is better than CSP ❤️ I used firealpaca like (redacted) years ago so there's been many changes since I last used it, so I tried to draw smth on it

And tbh it doesn't look THAT different😭 I mean obviously my CSP Aira is more polished bc I'm currently more used to it, but otherwise my process was pretty much the same. I'm sure if I used firealpaca more I could probably achieve a replica. If I tried hard enough

The biggest difference between CSP and FireAlpaca is that CSP has a wider variety of assets and brushes. FireAlpaca does have like a brush asset store, which is very cool, but it doesn't have as many as CSP.

But usually artists don't use that many brushes when drawing anyways, a lot of us just like downloading them and not using them so even if you don't have access to the entire library of CSP assets you'll survive probably

However, when it comes to brushes, CSP has better default brushes (especially their airbrush). FireAlpaca's default brushes aren't bad, but they aren't the best either, although this can be rectified by just downloading a brush in their brush store 💀 FireAlpaca does give me some trouble with pen lag and stuff but it's pretty minor

I didn't use this in my drawing, but CSP has a 3D asset function that's useful for posing and drawing objects, which is convenient for me but if you're the type of person that doesn't have trouble with anatomy and stuff, you'll be fine even without it.

Overall, I do prefer CSP because I'm used to it and I like the assets there, but you can draw just fine with FireAlpaca even without the excessive assets. Honestly with all the additions over the years, I'm surprised FireAlpaca is still free 😭

falling in love at a coffee shop [ELLIE W]

summary: the barista at the coffee shop has you in a grip. even though you hate coffee.

a/n: this is my first time writing in a looonnngg time so sorry if its not that good! lmk if you want a part two <333

Coffee was disgusting. The bitter-tasting bean couldn't be covered up with even copious amounts of milk and sugar. You hated the way it hit your tongue, spreading over every single taste bud and lingering there. Your face pinched with every single splash of liquid. Dina rolled her eyes every time but you couldn't help it.

There were only two things that made you come back to the coffee shop day after day. The way it smelled was one of the two reasons. Even as a proclaimed coffee hater, you could admit the smell of the roasting beans was good.

The only other reason was the barista that was behind the counter. From the first day, Dina dragged you to this shop, your eyes were locked on the barista. She was in your opinion the most beautiful girl you have ever seen. The way her hair fell over her face as she ground the coffee beans and steamed the milk was like a piece of art to you.

You wondered if this was a normal thing to do. To put yourself through what you considered mental torture just so you could glance at the barista every couple of minutes.

Dina knocked your leg under the table once again. You grabbed your cup to stop it from spilling, "Dude, you're staring. Again." You finally peel your eyes away from the auburn-haired barista to look at your friend.

"Is it obvious?" You whisper and she rolls her eyes. Her expression is going to get stuck like that one day.

She puts her pen down, stopping her studying to look at you with a pinched expression, "You remind me of a man right now. Staring at the poor girl just trying to do her job," You lean back in your chair, nibbling at your bottom lip, "We have come here for the past four days, in a row might I add, so you can stare at her. I have spent over 30 dollars in four days on coffee! Stop being a pussy and ask her for her number!" She stares at you, waiting for your reply.

You shake your head. What kind of person does she take you for? Surely she knows you well enough to know that asking someone out is one of the things you would rather die than do. Dina groans at your reaction, rubbing her fingers on her temples to soothe the oncoming headache.

"I, like," You start to explain your side to your friend who has her head rolled back with an exasperated expression pulled on her features, "What if she doesn't like girls?"

Dina suddenly cackles loudly at that, "She has a fucking forearm tattoo!" She noisily replied. The coffee shop patrons turn to look at your table. Dina just smiles at them.

You could crawl up and die.

You peer over your shoulder to see the barista looking at you two with an amused expression. When she catches your eyes she chuckles and goes back to steaming the cup of milk in front of her.

Dina doesn't look the slightest bit remorseful. She even looks a bit proud of herself, "Well, at least she knows we are talking about her now."

"I'm literally going to end your life."

You stood in front of the pickup area, fidgeting with your bracelet as you waited for the barista to make an appearance. You check your phone again to see it's been around 4 minutes since you arrived. There weren't any drinks on the mat so you could just grab and go, with no interaction at all. Sadly not. You began to wonder if the barista had decided to quit mid-shift as the minutes continuously went by with no view of her.

You turn around to look at the store hours on a sign sitting out front when the wooden floors creak behind you, "Oh?" You hear a voice.

You turn back around. It was her. Your heart felt like it was about to fall out at the sight of her. She had her auburn hair up in a half-bun and her t-shirt had rolled-up sleeves, showing off her sleek muscles. If you didn't know any better you would've thought you were having a heart attack from how your chest feels.

She looked at you with confusion plastered over her features, "Can I help you?" Her voice was the perfect mix of gravelly and deep. It was perfect. She was perfect in your eyes.

"Um," You scratch your arm nervously, "My friend said she put a to-go order in under my name."

Her laugh catches you off-guard. Your eyes shift around the small shop as you wait for her to explain her sudden onslaught of giggles. Tears prick the side of her eyes as she continues to laugh.

"Uh…" She calms down slightly, holding her stomach, "We don't do to-go orders. Your friend definitely lied to you about that but I can just take your order if you want me to?"

You really should kill Dina when the chance arises. Tonight does seem like a perfect night to become a murderer.

You snap out of your thoughts. Deciding to be a normal person, you reply with a smile, "Yeah… that works too," She motions you to come over to the register, "Can I just get a-"

She cuts you off, "Iced latte for you and an Americano for your friend?" She looks at your surprised face with a bashful smile, "I may not take the orders but I do make them and well… you and your friend have ordered the same thing the past four times. Now five."

You let out a small laugh, "We are both creatures of habit."

She nods, "Me as well," She licks her bottom lip, leaning on the counter, "What's the name of the order?"

She smiles as she gets your name, writing it down on the cups, "You have a pretty name. It will only take me a couple minutes to make these so you can sit if you want to."

You nod as she turns her back to you but you can't help but feel ecstatic at her calling your name pretty. Was this flirting? Or was this just normal conversation? God, this sort of stuff flew right over your head. The last time anyone said anything about you was pretty was when you first met Dina around four months ago. She said your hair was pretty as she sat down next to you in class. But this felt different. Maybe it's because of how undeniably you were attracted to this barista. It made your head spin as you went over the interaction a million different times.

Her calling your name out is the only thing that snaps you out of overthinking.

"Here you go," She hands you the drinks with a smile, "Hope they are good."

You take them, "They always are," She rubs the back of her neck at your words, "Thank you! See you later?"

Was that weird to say?

"Yeah, see you later."

Maybe not.

As you make your way out of the shop, you look down at your iced latte to take a sip when you notice black sharpie on the top.

In awful chicken scratch handwriting was the message of your dreams.

sigh but yeah as soon as I put two and two together that the series FP episodes staying locked during the hiatus meant that Rachel would only technically need one episode ready for the return... that was when I was pretty certain that the art wasn't gonna improve.

That said, I didn't really have much hope to begin with ? I know that sounds defeatist, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little hopeful when the hiatus started, but speaking as someone who's been making webcomics for years now, you CAN'T turn around the shit that's clearly led to LO's decline in 4 months. The writing problems, the art problems, the burnout that Rachel is clearly experiencing... none of that can be fixed in 4 months, while attending conventions, while also needing to take rest time, while needing to create a buffer. It's just not possible to pull off, even if it was someone who didn't have the chronic procrastination and distraction problems that Rachel has.

LO is a broken series, down to its very foundation. The cracks in the foundation weren't obvious in the beginning, but now with everything that's been built upon it over the past 5 years putting pressure on those cracks, it's clear it's falling apart. As much as I've loved being a part of this community and creating the panel edits and Rekindled and everything that's come with being a "hater", this isn't where I saw myself with the series two years ago and I'm split on whether it's a good thing or a bad thing. I miss when this series was at least entertaining and had effort put into it. Yes, it still had issues as far back as S1, but at least it still felt like there was love and effort being put in. Now it just feels like a cheap bootleg and the novelty of how funny it is in its awfulness has really worn off for me. It's just bad.

saw art with a quote from a post about izzy, talking about how some people find it touching that he’s buried in the yard of the inn, but this person didn’t. it made them feel sick because he’s buried there like a dog. and just first of all yeah. at first it was touching to me bc of that sentiment that they’re keeping him near them, even in death, but the more i thought on it the more my stomach also churned.

i know djenks had the best intentions with how izzy’s character and arc were treated but jfc ya missed the mark. by a wide margin. like hello???? having the entire point of his arc in season two be discovering himself and growing into himself, hell even standing up for himself and letting himself hold on a little looser to his baggage and just put down the baggage he chose to carry on behalf of the man he loved only for him to die like an episode or two later. and the crew acts like nothing happened just. it doesnt sit right with me and it hasnt since the first time i saw it.

i know its for “plot” reasons, but there was no other way to convey any of this than maiming him like the family dog nobody actually likes??? like a grimy mutt?? without him LITERALLY DYING????????????????? AT THE VERY END OF THE SEASON??????? AND NOT EVEN HAVE THAT BE THE MAIN MESSAGE FOR THE REST OF THE EPISODE??? you had to stomp all over his dead body with a fucking wedding. yes yes good for lucius and pete i really do love them and i am happy for them, but its like they all just. moved on. and forgot about izzy. and trust me i am FULLY aware of how complex grief is, but still. it stings. it feels like its watering down the impact izzy had on everyone on the crew.

he and the kraken’s crew grew so close that they tried to keep him alive even tho they all knew if the kraken found out, they’d all be paying with blood. they MADE HIM. A PROSTHETIC. AND PAINTED IT. they cheered him on when he came out in drag and sang in fucking FRENCH!!!!!!! and then he dies and like 3 minutes later theres a wedding and another party. it feels tasteless. it feels demeaning.

and i 100% think djenks roped izzy and ed into the Bury Your Gays trope without thinking that through. elder queer man who is traumatized dozens of times over who just fucking came to terms with himself AND WHO JUST CONFESSED HIS LOVE TO EDWARD!!!! dies. shortly after that, timeline wise. thats the fucking trope. it’s literally right there.

AND THEN. they fucking bury him in the YARD. LIKE A DOG. in the far corner where they wont see it and be reminded of him every day. out of sight out of mind. they’ll move on and grow old together, blissfully happy, while izzy’s bones are the only thing left of the man who once was Israel Hands, First Mate to the legendary Blackbeard. he never got to have his mutual pining moment, he never got to find the true love of his life and grow old with them. he doesnt get to die fulfilled, with labored breaths, as old age takes him. he gets to sit and watch from the corner as ed and stede, his ex of sorts and the guy he replaced him with, live that happily ever after. he gets to sit in the corner like a bad dog and watch as these two get everything he ever wanted. just like the unwanted family pet.

I skimmed all of the epilogues and hs2 two years ago so i know what happens to each character in each timeline. I ACTUALLY GENUINELY HATE THEM.

I dont think i have to state that the writing decisions were horrible BUT HS2 OHHHH MY GOD hs2 actually makes me fume. It takes all the artistic intent with homestucks visual presentation and character design choices AND THROWS THEM OUT THE WINDOW?

Homestucks art and animation is so important to it. The design philosophy is literally the easiest thing to understand ever- the adults all have unique shapes and look like adults because they are adults and the children are small because theyre children!!!! BUT IN HS2 THEY ALL STILL LOOK LIKE TEENAGERS? It feels like comparing the 90s cats movie to the 2019 one its like that for me. LET ME EXPLAIN

The first one is a strange ambitious story for its medium, playing with the conventions people expect to see from something like it and using its cliches to its advantage and making them enjoyable. Theyre both so fun to look at and watch and have a huge cast with something for everyone, its a unique and strange experience that really nothing else can provide, and they will never leave you!

Then the second ones while they have things that are. Technically impressive and constructed well with the visuals- they completely miss all the artistic intent of the original and the very simple reasons the way they were built the way they were. It feels like a spit in the face of people who were really engaged in the original

DONT TKAE THIS TANGENT TOO SERIOUSLY Im just trying to say. I think the epilogues and hs2 feel really corporatised and mean spirited i cant enjoy them. I think dirkjake divorce is funny and can be interesting but otherwise i DONT CARE ABT ANYTHING ELSE GOING ON IN THERE ITS ALL SO BORING AND MEAN.

It really does sadden me because there was so much left to be explored and such a compelling cast of characters to work with and subjects in the air the tackle but NO. And all the charm of the presentation style was just Gone. IM NOT A FAN.

Hehe i was talking abt this with a friend but i think if you were to truly try and tackle something like homestuck with a cast as beloved as its and get them Correct youd need to assemble a team who are willing to dedicate themselves to doing character studies and charting out all their arcs and playing with their themes that were established previously.

I love homestuck with all my heart and i truly believe a continuation of canon could be really good in the hands of people who deeply care abt Homestuck (not just certain characters but Everything that went into it) but the post canon we got WAS NOT IT. Im a hater 👎

lovebrush chronciles is an otome game deisgbed by team/company I AM ACTUALLY NOT SURE DESPITE YOU SEEING IT EVRRYTIME YOU ENTER THE GAME HOLD ON neteaze games (passion of gamers) and it is about altnerate universes, time fuckery, and school life.

the game begins introducing itself as a regular otome school life sim (my condolences to the fans who fell for william first sight only to find out hes not an actual love interest trust me i see u i feel u) but then WHAM BAM!! just when u thougut ur girl best friend was lookin kinda cute she gets X_x in this summon circle and you jump in to save her only to find out youre now in a royal cage surrounded by people that needa sacrifice you to save themselves from their own doom. oh and youre not in your own world anumore good luck have fun

so now here goes the different plots and paths with the love interests. the way i playrd it was as they introduced it, which was ayn aklaid lars claerence. no cael route yet which rips me apart every night. the love interests seem to have consistent values throughout most universes despite all of their diferet upbringings which i find pretty cool considering schoollife and royaltylife are two completely drastic diferent things, and also i nejoy how mc is written with more character and an amazing design to match the rest of the beautifully drawn cast

on that topic the art is GORGEOUS. i have never seen such beautiful detailed art in a game before and i assure you it will not disappoijnt. the graphics and smoothness of the game are especially a great touch. THERES A MINI STORY FOR EACH CARD BTW SR AND UP ITS SO GOOD becasenit feels as if the creatoes actually put care and give a shit into whar theyre writing and drawing and even in little events the absolute quality and depth of the cast shines theough its just i cannot express how much you need to play tjis game if you like dating sims ITS FREE TOO??,×*#&@ IMSO SAD WHY ID OBEYEME GETTING SM ATTENTION WHEN THIS IS SITTJNGHERE HUH dont get me wrong i too was in that hole but trust me brother there is only one man worth it there and obeyeme sure as hell isnt gonna do it justice with its 200+ chapter peobably plotline

HI i appreciate this ask a lot i don't know if i count as any paragon of kyle expertise but... well. that's never stopped me.

if you're up to oyl you're pretty far along, and i assume you'd seen a handful of reading guides that nudge you towards all of gl (1990) #48-181 and its surrounding crossovers, including zero hour (1994) and final night/parallax: emerald night (1996). i derive most of my takes on his character from this era.

green lantern rebirth and gl publications thereon are often (in)famously authored by mr. geoff johns, so i cannot in good conscience integrate most of that body of work into my belief system. that being said! it does include the buildup to ion (2006) #1-12, which, while not perfect, has phenomenal art and is also pretty key to kyle's whole ethos. the buildup to ion is the following:

green lantern: rebirth (2004)

green lantern corps: recharge (2005)

rann/thanagar war: infinite crisis special (2006)

ion (2006)

if you're not allergic to ensemble comics, he is also a frequent cast member in jla (1997) for the first 70 or so issues; it's a good place to look to see him foster relationships with other members of the dc universe (like wally, whose friendship with kyle is basically nonexistent nowadays but i have not forgotten) and gradually gain confidence as gl. some highlights include:

jla (1997) #1-7 — he's such a rookie here. he's clearly very new to the game and nervous about it, so it's a good look into how he started off and what he grew from.
