#i'm thinking abt specific ships but also it applies to a lot of them
Note
(only answer if you're comfortable discussing nsfw)
You know that post about the characters' kinks (idk if you rbed it or someone else)?
I think it's mostly right about a-yao. he def would have a power kink (i was origanally sold on this by a topping from the bottom chengyao fic), but i could also imagine him enjoying some pampering in sex. the phrase 'princess treatment' comes to mind (although i think that phrase might be a spa thing).
and this complements the ships
like. imagine lxc servicing him. for once, lxc's isn't having to make choices where the options are Thing That Will Hurt People A and Thing That Will Hurt People B. JGY is getting some well deserved time not thinking about which role he has to play in the social hierarchy. it's all just cozy hours that he and JGY have squirrelled away.
nmj gets to express all his Mother hen instincts while simultaneously getting laid! he can let go off all that Important Leader BS and be soft and tender with the person he wants to take care of.
also. i know people talk abt jiang cheng being a praise-kink having sub who cries during sex (very true and not at all shameful), but i'm sure some gentle service topping would make him very happy. he's making jgy happy! a feat rarely accomplished by man. he's doing a good job even if he's the one telling jgy *he's* doing a good job. jiang cheng loves projects and 'make a-yao feel special' is the best kind of project.
then there's wrh. the perfect man to tell jgy he's perfect and make him feel pampered and special. specifically because of jgy's daddy issues. if he's at a point where he actually trusts wrh, i'm sure jgy would love this.
nhs. praising giving. likes being in charge of things that are fun. has laways kept tabs on nmj's wellbeing and would be doing the same for jgy if they were close/dating. now just apply this to the bedroom! i need'nt say more.
xue yang tho. not sure what to do with that one.

Hey, regular anon!! Haha sorry this took so long, I have no problem talking about nsfw stuff actually!
I don't remember the post you mention (so it probably wasn't me who reblogged it lol), but I totally agree with you!
I'm sure that JGY would normally be one great power bottom, even a mean top XD, as he absolutely has a thing for control, and I firmly believe that it comes basically from his need to feel safe: the more in charge of a situation, the safer he is. And he would enjoy that!
But I also believe that if he was to trust his partner enough, he would let himself be taken care of. Or at least it would be something that would do him good, even if he would be hesitant about letting someone else do the work for a change and being shown that he can receive without having to earn it.
And yes, it works well in the context of ships.
LXC would certainly appreciate having the worst dilemma he has to face being where to start pampering JGY xD. He's a kind and gentle person, so doing his best to shower his A-Yao in affection would be like second nature. Making a loved one feel good, what a joy!
There are not a lot of chances for NMJ to show his tender side, and he is also one to appreciate hard work and reward it accordingly, not to mention he is very protective. There's the saber spirit too, so having something else to distract him from that, making him focus on little A-Yao fully would do him well too.
With JC I think it's a situation similar to JGY in some regard, not so much about control, but about feeling fully accepted and reassured, and being a top is another way to achieve that: procuring someone pleasure, making them feel safe with him, lower their guard and trust him, seeing the effect he has on someone and being encouraged. JC is also a protective person who is fiercely devoted to the few he holds dear, caring for JGY is a sense a very personal thing bc they share so much similar baggage. Also he just likes to know he is doing a good job.
Oh, WRH. As you can imagine, this one is my favorite in this scenario bc of how much it would mean coming from him XD. Just imagine you are a smol guy who everybody looks down on and who has to continuously prove himself... and THEN you have the most imposing, powerful man caring for you, servicing you, telling you how perfect you are, how good you are... it'd be easy for him to crash you, and YET here he is, pampering you, validating you, making you feel like the most special person bc how could you not be when you have This Man telling you about how he would burn down the world for you :').
I can see it all being very playful and sweet with NHS. He is known for being a lazy guy who would normally prefer himself getting pampered, but him doing it for JGY would feel like a fun experiment, and I imagine NHS of all ppl being one JGY would trust easily (if we don't include canon ending lol). Maybe not having a lot of faith in how would NHS perform a first, but being pleasantly surprised and it's all giggles and jokes. All part of his evil plan to get JGY to relax and stop worrying about work!
OMG XY. Tbh I can only see these two having some nasty, disrespectful sex XD, JGY trusting the delinquent enough to actually be intimate with him, but XY is too much of a wild card to be fully service top imo, much less a gentle selfless one that would pamper him. It would still be a good session of catharsis tho :P.

oughuhuhuhu okay so. i was talking abt this issue with a friend earlier and ik i'm about to make a lot of ppl mad by saying this, but. i seriously hate how a lot of ppl treat hythades. i LOVE the ship in and of itself immensely, don't get me wrong -- but as a gay man irl, i feel like a lot of people (too many ppl; most ppl in fact) portray the ship in a super fetishistic manner that invokes concepts that are both boring dry musty overused ass tropes AND deeply harmful stereotypes abt gay and m/m relationships in general.
seeing ppl IMMEDIATELY default hyth to being a submissive bottom because he's perceived as the more pretty/"effeminate" one between the two or whatever absolutely chaps my ass, because as a man who is shorter and considered effeminate in appearance, i really fucking resent that stereotype, especially when it's applied to me and others like me on the fly...like girl, you do not know me lmfao....i might be cute but i will whip ya ass.
imo it does a massive disservice to the complexities of both hyth and hades' characters to have people flatten them into the most basic crusty ass stereotypes (and need i remind you, a lot of the ''fem man bottom, angry grumpy macho top" bs stems from homophobic stereotypes, and yes i know there are rl m/m relationships that have that dynamic going on and that's totally fine, but the issue is too many of yall STAY flattening EVERY fictional m/m relationship you see into this vapid stereotype and it makes me fucking insane. like clearly, some of you have literally never met a single gay man in your life or breathed the same air as one of us, and it really shows.) i get MASSIVE red flags when i see people who aren't gay/men/masc/nb specifically doing these kinds of fetishistic/stereotype-based portrayals of the ship, too.
it's also deeply frustrating (as someone who both mains hythlodaeus in-game and has him as my primary muse here on tumblr) to have my fav ship be the thing that prompts nearly everybody overlook my efforts to portray hyth as a person; a person who actually exists outside his relationship to hades (and azem to a lesser extent), as a muse who stands alone, has his own story, motivations, hobbies, etc. that exist outside of (and really have nothing to do with) hades specifically. moreover, i never assume that i'm entitled to ship with a hades muse, and hell, that's not even necessarily my goal when interacting with hades muses?? i just think their dynamic is extremely funny and enjoyable, whether you wanna potray them in a romantic/shippy context or not! idk. it's just sad that so many ppl just assume that i won't care as much (or at all) abt having hyth interact with their muse(s) because as a hyth main, they think i'm just here to write ships with hades muses when for me, that's objectively not true.
again, i love my mutuals who write hades, i am a huge hades enjoyer, and i LOVE hythades as a ship, but i just. idk. my enjoyment of it is severely compromised due to people not being Normal abt it?

pls that person w/ the shipping takes makes me spiral every time they talk. they make it a moral thing and let me tell it makes me mentally unwell like unironically it makes me paranoid that im a Bad Person, esp when they start moralizing abt specific ships w/ nothing actually even wrong w/ them. it's rlly damaging to me. like god. god. you dont have to post this but i needed to let it out to someone who seems to Get It.
sorry this got really long X_X
tl;dr: you should try applying the logic people use against shipping or certain shipping dynamics, to fictional violence and question why only one is considered problematic while the other isn't. Sex negativity and a culture that abhors weirdos, while trivializing violent behaviour irl and in fiction, should tell you a lot
I think you should go ahead and preemptively block people. You have nothing to lose and much to gain. I do that all the time and it has made my navigating here much better. Guess the exception for me would be the Zexal fandom, since it's so small. Sometimes I will see wild shit like this and roll my eyes and hope people block me then because I'm one of those freaks in everyone's dnis hahaha
I hope this helps some. Have a nice day and stay weird anon, don't give in, there's others who appreciate you just how you are
here's the things: these are fictional stories with fictional characters that don't really exist. Yeah sure, it could be "a reflection of reality" and like.. what about it? It's still fictional lol
I used to struggle with this a lot myself, and used to be harassed, sui baited and everything back when I was on another fandom, because I draw/write porn of fictional characters. What helped me a lot was getting the logic these people use and apply it in other fictional settings such as.. violence, and question why only one is considered extremely problematic, and the other is not only socially acceptable but normalized. Trivializing violence actually "helps" justify atrocities against certain groups, even more using a Good vs Bad framework: violence is acceptable against "bad" people. Who is "bad" people? High rates of racism, antisemitism, ableism, etc everywhere should give you an idea..
all I hear about in fandom spaces is how things related to fictional sex and fictional relationships are the bane of society and "wouldn't someone think of the children**" and fictional violence is like "well, you can just blacklist tags if you don't want to see that kind of content" hmm.......
it reminds me of some of the drama that went down years ago about how "video games make people more violent***" and that not only is untrue, video games give a way for people with violent tendencies to cope and that's a good thing. Also, no one is watching horror movies and thinking they're itching to kill others, even if they are, they can just keep to themselves and have fun watching gruesome shit like nobody's business. Thinking is not a crime. And liking certain things it's not a reflection of someone's whole character (see: kinksters and how they get shit from literally everyone just because of what they like/what turns them on, and people seem to forget they're a whole human being with a life outside of kink)
a lot of the shit people cry about in here are non-issues where I come from, no one loses their head about it. If someone dislikes something they can do something about it, or they don't and that's fine too. "Right" and "wrong" are relative concepts, there's a lot of room for nuance and fiction is still fiction in the end of the day
considering a lot of folks here are from countries that are nuts with purity culture, sex negativity, and anything not "normal" is considered degeneracy that needs to be purged, it's no wonder you get the most wild takes from people in fandoms. In particular, young people, are very susceptible to accept things as facts and might not have enough maturity or critical thinking skills to process what they absorb. Unfortunately, it spreads because who can argue with that?
[sarcasm] of course incest is horrible, and age gaps are bad, and dysfunctional relationships are toxic and people who write or draw those things are just as guilty of "normalizing" and "romanticizing" it, and they are probably secretly trying to groom children with fanart of some kid's cartoons because they're a predator! People writing noncon fanfiction? Actually rapists in denial! People writing alien character X human character with massive age gaps? Obviously it's a pedophile, same with people who age up characters for porn purposes! People who are into monsters and robots and other stuff? Degens that should be shot! [/sarcasm]
as if it's fictional media causing damage to people and not people themselves.. really makes you think huh? It's easy to just blame the art, and if it doesn't exist, then there will be no more issues, right? As if censorship ever worked as "intended" and not as a tool to control people's thoughts and behaviours
the point of fiction, at least for me, is that there's no limit to what you can do. You can write or draw anything, you can go absolute batshit crazy with your rape bdsm fantasies with age gaps and monsters and shit. It's not real, and that's the fun of it. Authors tend to tag things out of courtesy, so that people can control whether they will see it or not. You can't get that from a published book, so we're spoiled in fandom spaces with content creators being very amazing at that. A lot of people I see complaining seem to be actively looking for that kind of content themselves, or they don't want it to exist near them at all. That's just such a stressful way to live when you can just... block people, blacklist tags, not engage in things that trigger you.. lol
** that's a logical fallacy commonly used to shutdown queer people and sex workers, among others (x) *** broadly, researchers have not found any connection between violent video games and violent behavior (x)

What made you lose interest in Grey's specifically? I'm seeing that phenomenon from a lot of people who are/were Jo fans but after years of mistreatment she's finally being treated well so I don't quite get why people are losing interest now instead of years ago 😅 I'm genuinely asking btw because I want to understand.
hmmm i don’t really think my situation applies to most other jo fans dkfjskdf so i wouldn’t be able to explain the general trend but here’s a detailing of my personal experience:
in my opinion, the show overall dipped into more-cons-less-pros territory, with the departure of april and arizona and the development of m*rluca and j*ggie. not to mention a persistent focus on owen, who i’ve complained abt several times dkfjsdf. i was also personally really invested in jo’s specialty and career path (i was like the patron saint of ortho!jo), but it was clearly not a priority despite the timeline basically demanding that she specialize
there were also some minor problems that just irked me, like jolex only being delegated to comedic relief in 15a, a significant decrease in scenes of jo and alex together, the link/jo relationship getting much less screen-time than i had hoped for, jo’s research project not making any gotdamn sense (which i’ve also complained about), etc. and while i absolutely loved the jo content in 15b, the show is still an ensemble show and i couldn’t really get enthusiastic about the majority of the ensemble anymore
and then at the same time that i was growing less happy w the show, i had a Lesbian Rebirth dkfjskdfjsdf i watched runaways and rediscovered what it felt like and what it meant to be in a fandom of wlw shipping two wlw together. that had always been a huge and important thing for me, but i was steeped in grey’s for so long that i lowkey forgot, so getting into runaways and later into amar a muerte was honestly really liberating and rejuvenating for me and my mental health. i found it less and less enticing to watch new grey’s eps, let alone gif them, bc i felt like watching/giffing other things would be more fun and make me happier
all of this being said, i still caught up w s15 (eventually) and fully intend on keeping up w the show until it ends. i’ve actually found that watching the show as a casual viewer as opposed to a super invested fan is like really amazing and much more enjoyable. forcing myself to watch eps as soon as they come out or to gif things is really proving to be a huge drag, especially since i’m a lil stressed and busy right now. thank you for asking though!!
