Hello Mr Neil,

I hope your writer strike is going to be successful and I am sorry you have to strike at all but I’m rooting for you and everyone else involved! That said, I have a question, or rather, I seek your advice. I am, more or less, studying English, and this apparently requires classes on pronunciation, which means, in my case, that I have to speak as perfectly posh RP English as I can manage. Most students and at least some tutors are against this since, as we’ve also been told, only like 3% of anglophones speak RP and having to learn specifically that as The Correct English seems uhh not ideal, but alas we do not get a choice (unless we want to do General American instead which I personally would be very bad at). All this to say – part of our final oral exam in this class consists of reading out a short narrative prose text (300-400 words) of our choosing, ideally with direct speech in it. I have already made up my mind to read something of your writing, because I find the flow and melody of it very pleasant to read out loud. However, as a tiny act of protest that’s available to me, I’d like to read something that can be considered at least a little bit, well. disturbing? fucked up? “what the hell are you reading there?”-like? so my professors will have to judge my pronunciation of Fucked Up Stuff if they have to judge it at all. Is there any text/passage of your writing you might like to recommend for this purpose?

(Ideally something I have personally available, probably, unfortunately... so, Good Omens, American Gods, Anansi Boys, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, The Graveyard Book, Coraline, Stardust, Neverwhere, Smoke & Mirrors, or Fragile Things. Or Sandman, but that probably won’t count for “prose with direct speech”.)

That one scene made me come up with a solution of how Angel can be freed and Valentino getting what he deserves. OK, fine, let's say that Charlie and Lucifer don't have the power to mess with other demons' contracts and can't free Angel's soul with just a snap of their fingers. BUT they do have the power as a royalty to take down Valentino's business. "And you can do whatever you want to me there(in the studio), just like our deal says." Think about it:

(No business + no studio) + Valentino losing his power and his overlord title = Angel's freedom (and the freedom of many others)

Just imagine: a powerful man-turned-demon doing a lot of terrible things in order to get wealth and fame, and people to step on (pls, don't take that out of context). He gets what he wants every time, and everything is perfect. For him, at least 😒. And then, out of nowhere, the "stupid, blonde, good-for-nothing" princess of Hell and her father, the King, declare that this porn business is coming to a close, and Valentino shall no longer be an overlord. Everything, EVERYTHING, that this disgusting moth-man has worked for crumbles right in front of him. Money, gone. Porn movies and drugs, bye-bye 👋🏻. His favourite toy (Angel) and the souls he has under contracts are free. Even Vox and Velvet are leaving him behind because he is worthless to them now. Personally, I think this will be more satisfying than simply killing Val with an angelic weapon.

But, alas, knowing Vivzipop, it's highly unlikely that she will come up with something like this.

This is a really interesting idea actually! I’ve seen a lot of people mad at Charlie for not doing something about Angel’s situation and honestly I am too but Angel asked her to stay out of his business which is something I and many other have experienced of that “It’s fine I can handle it myself this is my issue” mindset, but still in the future I really hope she actually steps up and does something. Especially with her stupid “But thats so meaaan :(” line when Vaggie tells her to actually use her authority.

I also agree on the point I’d like to see Val have more consequences to his actions instead of just killing him. Of course I want him dead but I’d like it to be later on. Number 1 thing I hate is character’s abuser dying and then suddenly the character is fine and has no issues.

Id draw a picture of Valentino and put him through the oven and stove but I don’t want to draw anything more than the back of his torso and hands. Maybe someday you’ll see me make an animatic of Val being gunned down but certainly not soon.

Anyway expanding on this idea sounds like it’d be very interesting, if you’d have anything to add I recommend toying around with it!

Do you respond to comments? not often; i have made multiple attempts to start replying regularly but all have eventually failed in the face of me desperately wanting to show my earnest and genuine appreciation for each comment vs. wanting to hide my blushing face under a pillow every time. also, because of who i am as a person, each time i sat down to do it i ended up spending hours making little progress and eventually decided that i will make an effort to spend those hours writing or commenting on other fics instead. i am honored by each and every one though!!!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? while i tend to write angst it is always firmly of the “with a happy ending” sort. the one exception is my shortest fic (originally posted on twitter) never been away so long, which is more of an ambiguous/open ending with implied angst. i dooooo outline the eventual happy ending in the endnotes, though. also as it CURRENTLY stands buy back the secrets ends on one hell of an angsty note, but there are two more chapters in the works to fix that.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? despite the wangxian star trek au having like 20k of deliriously happy post-misunderstanding sex, i think trrty has to have the happiest ending because not only does the fic end happily, but there are also multiple very happy codas in which wwx gets a good night’s sleep, finally gets to bang his dragon boyfriend, and, my personal fav, one by aubreyli where wangxian go flying in a thunderstorm.

8. Do you get hate on fics? not so far, for which i am grateful but mostly lucky.

9. Do you write smut? occasionally; on ao3 there’s the aforementioned trrty coda, plus the aforementioned cowritten wangxian pon farr sequence 💪

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you have written? hmm, i’m not opposed to crossovers—i’ve read some really fun ones (recent fav crossover read here)—but i’d have to be really compelled by both source materials and have a very clear vision for how they interact to want to write one myself. i’ve written a few fandom fusions (aforementioned wangxian star trek au; i also started a wangxian dragon age au but again, no dragon age characters were going to show up, just the world/setting) but no full-on crossovers. i did have one partially drafted wangxian fic that was going to have a hua cheng deus ex machina, alas.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? not that i’m aware of! it’s not something i really go looking for/concern myself with, but so far, like with fandom hate, i’m grateful to not have encountered it.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? yes! my wangxian wedding fic was translated to russian.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? i co-wrote seventy thousand words of published fic with @feyburner! and probably two hundred thousand words of unpublished fic and outlines and story ideas just for fun. even when we aren’t co-writing we tend to talk through our individual fics with each other so we’re pretty in sync when it comes to writing. i also spent like a year in @cairoscene’s DMs concocting whole outlines/zerodrafts for batfam fics together that i still cherish and reread (notable favs: tim drake ella enchanted au, concept where the waynes are cursed to suddenly feel nothing but apathy about tim and he has to deal with that, story where robin!tim gets de-aged and oops red hood is the first one to show up…). i’d say the OCBFEU is fic-adjacent and cowritten by a group of us. also shoutout to the mdzs threadfic @cafecliche and i brainstormed/zerodrafted where lan qiren gets cursed into an owl and post-cql wei wuxian is the one who unknowingly saves him.

14. What's your all time favorite ship? oh yeah it’s [loud truck goes by]

15. What is a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? cyborg!wwx…i still think of you fondly. the only ao3 fic i’ve ever posted knowing i probably wouldn’t finish it but wanted to share just for fun.

16. What are your writing strengths? pangs… mining little character details for humor (or, more often, for more pangs)… i also think i’ve really improved my action writing/pacing over the last few years.

17. What are your writing weaknesses? i write actual drafts/prose fairly slowly, which can be frustrating for me. also like @yuebings i often get very caught up in trying to perfect one small part of a draft before moving on. ummmm describing outfits/settings for reasons other than immediate plot-relevant details, i’m terrible at that + remembering to do it—i literally make myself do a What Are We Looking At Here Pass while revising sometimes.

18. Thoughts of writing dialogue in another language in fics? i’m not totally sure what this question is asking tbh, but it’s something i think can be done incredibly well—and, like with many things in storytelling, it’s the sort of thing where if you don’t actually speak the second language you need to be willing to put in work beyond a cursory google to try to achieve what you’re doing, and be willing to admit if it’s beyond your capabilities. i really like how the portuguese dialogue in bbts ended up and that’s 100% because @tigerjpg translated it for me and also already understood the scene/concept/characters; without them i would have found a different way to approach that scene. also, stylistically, i personally like when dialogue in other languages isn’t italicized unless there’s a real reason for it to be.

20. Favorite fic you have written? right now it’s bbts, because i think it’s also the fic i’ve had the most fun writing. trrty, though, will always hold a special place in my heart.

It would be so interesting if Daniel’s madness could be explained that way! Was that encounter supposed to have taken post suicide attempt? Because if so… yeah I’d buy it. Daniel seems to be going through the worst of it so it’d make sense for something in his mind to have fractured seemingly beyond repair shortly after finding out about Armand’s “death”. And in that state, it couldn’t have been possible for him to have an actual conversation with Armand. Ugh I wish we could’ve gotten more of them because I do feel like Anne could’ve given them the resolution they deserved beyond the one liners and the endgames, her grasp on the characters and their dynamic was still very much there and it felt true to them, even in notes/annotation form, she just didn’t have it in her to care I guess.

I've always thought Armand's death was the cause of Daniel's madness, it just made sense and seemed to line up time-wise. So maybe in this case, in Anne's notes, he was already a little off-kilter and the thought that Armand died pushed him all the way over the edge, which would definitely fit. The notes are sparse but it does seem like it's when Armand goes to the church to see Lestat, so it would be after his suicide attempt.

I'm definitely with you. Even the exchange we saw in her notes really does read like them, you're so correct. So if she was still writing them like that, I'd be all over it. I am curious why it was left out or changed. Maybe it complicated things too much and took attention away from Lestat. Maybe she decided she didn't like it after all. It's so hard to say.

I am grateful for all the fic writers who work to bring these scenes to life though, and I'm glad we have sort of an open playground in respect to them since we don't get much of them together after QotD, but it would have been nice to at least see Daniel in TVA, to at least have him around, and to see that despite what he tells David, Armand still has a deep and abiding love for him. Alas!

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

At the moment 59 under my name, plus a couple of anonymous ones for fic exchanges that haven’t hit the author reveal date yet.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

345,058

3. What fandoms do you write for?

At the moment: Rings of Power, Silmarillion and LOTR. My other big fandom is Babylon 5, although my much-loved WIP for that one is currently on hiatus.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

I don’t think these are my top 5 fics by a metric I care about given my love for small fandoms and obscure niche content alongside the Haladriel juggernaut stuff, but with that in mind:

- Shadow-Bride, my big Haladriel WIP, my baby, my love, my precious;

- A man is a god in ruins, my first multi-chapter Haladriel, which started life as a short ficlet to be the ‘+1’ of a 5 Things fic and took on something of a life of its own;

- Silver Queen, my first half-Maia Celebrian story - really I just wanted to give her enough half-Maia powers to blast ambushing orcs down a mountain;

- Five times Halbrand’s secret got revealed, my second (I think?) fic for Rings of Power. One of the scenarios turned into Shadow-Bride, and the +1 scenario in which Galadriel doesn’t learn his secret (well… arguably…) is ‘A man is a god in ruins’.

- Lady of the Seas, second part of a Haladriel two-parter; Haladriel smut with Sauron doing a lot of thinking about Ossë and Uinen.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I try to! I got behind at one point and had to declare temporary amnesty. I am so grateful for almost all (see answer to q8) the comments I get, and I love responding to either discuss things or just say ‘thank you’. I never manage to find time to do it as soon as I would like.

6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This would probably be one of my Babylon 5 ones - either ‘A spirit haunts the year’s last hours’, an AU drabble where the Minbari took Valen prisoner and now Delenn has her own pet god figure; or ‘MIssing’, about Delenn searching for Lennier after s5 and not finding him.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

‘Tar-Mairon of the Shire’, a Rings of Power AU where the Harfoots really did find Sauron. Does what it says on the tin. My summary for this one is ‘Hobbits make everything better, including Dark Lords’ and I stand by that.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Yes! A ridiculous amount! I have had multiple comments inviting me to harm myself in various graphic ways over making the wrong fictional characters kiss. I get the most hate for writing Celeborn in a way the haters have decided is mean to him (?? he’s fine!) and particularly on my G-rated baby ficlets. Who can even fathom this, honestly.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

I do, and mostly the ‘overly wordy’ kind.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I was going to say yes but apparently nothing I have on AO3 is a crossover and I can’t remember what I’ve written in my pre-AO3 days. So: yes I think so! once! But alas, can’t remember what.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not the whole fic in a copy/paste sense, but: yes. I won’t lie, it was pretty weird and unpleasant to discover, but once I’d got over the initial “?!” reaction I saw it a little differently - that kind of plagiarism was obviously coming from an author who was insecure in their own abilities, was deeply jealous of mine, and who ultimately was missing out on much of the actual fun of writing. What’s even the point of fanfic if you aren’t coming up with your own work? It’s not like we’re getting paid! How unsatisfying must it be to have readers like your work and know it’s actually someone else’s thing they’re liking anyway, right? So I ended up in a place of taking it as a compliment in the ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness’ sense.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes - one of my Rings of Power fics got translated into Russian. I am very happy, and very impressed by the translator’s work.

13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?

Yes and it didn’t go well and I nearly fell out with my co-writer friend over it because we had different schedules and different takes on the story, so: never again.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

It’s probably one I haven’t even written for: Jack and Irina in Alias. It’s got everything I love about ships! They’re enemies working for rival organisations, they’re married, they try to kill each other, they can’t quite bear to do it, they have to sort out awkward co-parenting arrangements, they plot, they dance, there are stabbing attempts… honestly, SpyParents forever.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

I plan to finish all my WIPs! I only have three at the moment: Shadow-Bride; Set Fire to the Stars (Babylon 5 pre-series Minbari worldbuilding with Branmer, who I love); and All The Kinds of Alive You Can Be (Rings of Power Sauron/Celeborn where Sauron shapechanges into Galadriel).

16. What are your writing strengths?

Especially these days (I’m a fandom old) I like that I’m happy to try writing new things based on thinking it would be interesting and I’d like to go with it, and not being intimidated by finding the fandom too scary or writing in a different direction to popular fanon or getting a baffled “that’s… nice… I guess?” reaction from my usual readers. I love writing Rings of Power Celeborn; I love writing fics about him raising half-Maia Celebrian; I get untold fury about this from a lot of the Twitter fandom youth, but I continue to have fun :)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I have tons about my actual writing (dialogue, endings, failure to come up with titles I’m happy with) but along the lines of the above answer: I wish I was better at doing long multi-part fics, because the ones I’ve done I have had loads of fun with but I usually stick to one-shots because I don’t feel like the energy of the story will keep going long enough.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

A few of my fics across fandoms have language as important, and specifically, different languages belonging to different people/who’s speaking and what they’re speaking in. My Silm-LOTR Galadriel/Celeborn fic ‘Softest of Tongues’ is a lot about Quenya and Sindarin, and how inadequate translation can be - one of the tags is ‘Sapir-Whorf hypothesis as a metaphor for the pain at the heart of your marriage’.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Poltergeist: the Legacy, back in the late 1990s. Fandom OLD. (I am glad none of those stories nor the forums they were written in have survived the ravages of internet time, I tell you.)

20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?

I have a few and the thing they all have in common is ‘I am really pleased I was able to make this thing I like work’. So:

- Tar-Mairon of the Shire (Rings of Power), for combining hope and Hobbits and History of Middle-earth, in a way that is both fluff and also genuinely sincerely written Sauron redemption;

- Civil Twilight (Rings of Power), for getting Haladriel and Galadriel/Celeborn into the same fic and for a take on Celeborn I’m really happy with;

- Softest of Tongues (LOTR and Silm), for writing Galadriel/Celeborn in a way that got the exact right language-as-symbolism and the tone of sadness and love and hope and grief that I was trying to hit;

- Deceptions (Babylon 5), for being a short fic that still captures Lennier going from protective to horrified in realising how terrifying his boss is (and also for Delenn making Neroon bow to her)

- Things That Go Bump In The Night (Ghosts), because I was not sure if I could write comedy fic for a comedy, and it turns out I could!

When did you you post your first ever fanfic?

May 22, 2018 - after two months of contemplation, I finally posted ‘Secrets Lies and Blessings’ to WattPad (I hate WattPad though and would like to remove all my fics from there but alas! My best friend likes that format and prefers to read it there so I’ve left them there)

Emma and Baelfire of course! (But when I was like 11/12 I actually wrote out little skits about some of the characters from Little House and Love Comes Softly🥴 but we won’t speak of those cringey things okay?)

Baelfire/Neal Cassidy. Though I am working on a first person story from Henry’s point of view (be on the look out for that one👀)

Secrets, Lies, and Blessings:

Emma barged through and helped herself through the doorway. “You can cut the ‘Your Highness’ nonsense, Rumpelstiltskin; I’ll be your daughter-in-law after next week so there’s no need for stupid formalities.”

“Fine.” He rolled his eyes. “What brings you to my door at this hour, Emma? Do your parents know you’re out galavanting through the forest?”

Emma waved off his question as she removed her hood. “They have no idea I left the castle.” She paused and turned as she watched Rumpel close the door. “I need to talk to you; it’s urgent.

Rumpel rolled his eyes and gestured toward a chair, pulled it out and offered it for Emma to sit.

“Thank you.” She gave a brief nod before sitting down.

The Wedding Night:

Emma and Baelfire didn’t have a conventional love story by any means. They met each other one cold December evening after sneaking out of their homes. Upon meeting, a startled Emma almost ran a very surprised and dumbfounded Baelfire through with her sword before he finally convinced her that he was unarmed and meant absolutely no harm. “I'm just out taking in the sights, same as you.” she remembered him saying with his hands held out in front him, palms facing her. After that night the two of them became friends and began to meet in secret in fear their parents wouldn’t approve of their friendship. Before long their friendship blossomed into romance, continuing to keep the relationship a secret. But eventually, their secret came to light two years later when Emma learned she was pregnant. Naturally, she was forced to tell her parents the truth about her and Baelfire and, after the initial shock, Snow and David accepted the ordeal as graciously as possible; with them deciding that the best option was for Bae and Emma to marry.

Where My Demons Hide:

“Neal,” Emma whispered, shaking her boyfriend awake. “Neal!” She said louder.

He groaned and shifted under the blanket while Emma continued to rouse him.

She shook him again, this time more rough. “Wakey wakey, Sleeping Beauty!” She chanted with a giggle.

Neal threw the blanket off of his head and sat up with a sigh, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.

“Sleep well?” she asked all too cheerily.

He only groaned in response before stretching - as well as he could, anyway, in their stupidly tiny stolen Beadle. “I guess so.” He looked at Emma through sleepy eyes. “What has you so happy this morning?”

My name is Henry David Cassidy. I’m twenty-eight years old and am about to marry the love of my life, Violet Morgan. It’s a bittersweet occasion. But why, you ask? Because I won’t have the privilege to share this occasion with my parents; they’re gone.

Then she remembered her tiny little one growing inside her and she suddenly felt a rush of protectiveness wash over her; whatever this sack of horse manure was planning on doing to her, she promised her unborn child that she would do whatever it took to protect it.

I remember being in the thralls of a manic episode and stumbling onto your blog and genuinely believing there are monsters out to get me and even my parents I was scared of thinking they where monsters. I had severe mental illness issues that your blog managed to worsen by giving me something as “proof” that I wasn’t crazy.

I am now on several medications and they help me make rational decisions and realize that monsters like you are not real. Actually your blog inspired an essay contest I entered where I talked about the real origins of the uncanny valley and won a scholarship for it and everything.

You need to realize that this “experiment” of yours takes advantage of the vulnerability of the mentally ill and can worsen symptoms. I was lucky that I managed to get onto meds and stay on them. I am fucking lucky that I didn’t do anything to harm myself in that time thinking I was being chased by human eating immortal monsters.

Alas your book has the woman’s name of the person who wrote the book and Simon(e) is a pen name made up by you. But your blog even if you do make money off patron and different people, you are also doing real harm to people who are mentally ill or experiencing psychosis or manic episodes.

I’m sorry you believed something you saw on the internet and became upset over it, but clearly if not the idea of monsters existing, it would have been something else. The root cause of the dysfunction, however, only became visible because of it manifesting in such a way, which led to your treatment and success, because you tackled it rather than running. I guess it is kind of sad that I struggled with this list after no. 5 😬. Like, I literally sat here going “uhhhh.... aap noot mies, I guess? Kinda? Hmmm.”

There’s just a lot of older stuff that I don’t really remember. I’m sure they’re fine and that I will like them if I reread them. I only knew of two fics that I definitely did not want on the list, but most of the 68 fics are just kind of “in limbo”.

And also I gotta say that no. 1 to 4 kind of share a spot. Those are just my fave fics that I have written and I do not want to pit these bad bitches against each other but alas 😔. I put River fic on one because I feel like that one is the best in “technical” sense. All the pretty things was a fucking experience. So was Myosotis and I loved the universe I created for it. Okay. Woah. Good thing I split the categories because I genuinely had no idea Glee isn’t in my top 10. I am shook. Myosotis sylvatica is on no. 14! A Love, Victor fic has more kudos than my Glee fics. I didn’t even like Love, Victor which is why I wrote fix-its and missing scenes for it! Not gonna lie, this kind of saddens me. Or maybe sadden is too harsh. I don’t know. It makes me feel something. Glee is my main and my longest fandom (not counting Winx Club) (I will write that Winx Club/Glee crossover fic one day that is a threat) (to me).

I knew that the B99 was the most kudo’d because it accompanied a post that I made on Tumblr and that one also got a lot of notes. I’m happy All shall know the wonder is on no. 2 because I love that one. I am still so amused by people liking my Doctor Who clusterfuck. How lucky we are to be alive right now was my first Carry On fic and it definitely no longer represents how I write for this fandom, so the fact that it’s the most-well known (which I also knew) gives me mixed feelings because on one hand I look back on it with fondness in an “awww look at that wee baby” feeling, but on the other hand I’m like “please, read my later stuff”.

Carry On has definitely taken over, though, so what I said for Glee also applies to Check, Please!: there are some fics that I probably really like but it’s been a while since I read them (*cough*Midnight confessions*cough*). But yeah as I mentioned, my most kudo’d Carry On fic is my first. I am not surprised that Mr. Grimm-Pitch and Mr. Snow is my second highest kudo’d one for that fandom, because I love that one, but I just love other fics more. But even then, if I look at my personal top 10 I do feel like all of them were well-received (apart from SJAEU, but I don’t expect it to get a lot of hits since it is super niche, and My rose-coloured boy which is in my eyes my most underappreciated fic in Carry On, like, come on, it’s only 891 words long!) and I always love it when people kudo and comment on my fics.

O great goddess of storytelling, share tips on how to write at least ONE PART completely from beginning to end. I get stuck and suffer because I have a beginning, a bit of an end, something in between and that's it...

Oh nonnie dearest, I get stuck too once in a while 🥲 It sucks but sometimes you just have to push through it 😭 I don’t have a lot of tips to give honestly bcs different people deal with writer’s block differently 🥲What works for me might not work for you🥹

BUT if you want to know how I deal with it, I usually try not to force myself to write when I’m not inspired 🤔 I find that when I write a scene when I am in a writer’s block, the scene would turn out…bad, at least to my standards. You can write a draft for the scene you’re working on and let it sit for some time, and when you feel the creative juices comes back, you can return to that draft you wrote and read it back. If it needs revision, revise it until you’re satisfied. The key is to not force yourself to write when you’re not feeling it 🙆🏻‍♀️ If you keep forcing yourself to write, you will get burnout real fast. So if you feel like you’re losing motivation or feel like something is missing in your story, allow yourself to take a break 😊

Also, I know that sometimes we want to get to the interesting part of our story as soon as we can, so we tend to rush to get to it. I personally like to take it slow because I want to make sure that when I get to the interesting part, I won’t leave any details🧎🏻‍♀️But alas, I am just a mere human who will make mistakes and still miss a thing or two 🥲 Oh! And sometimes when I’m working on building up to that interesting point, I’d usually get more ideas for that scene so I’ll usually add it to the board and do more readings on it 🤔

Definitely Every Good Gold Digger, I mean it has the most going on (pretty sure it makes up over half of my total word count on ao3) and if you actually stop to consider the premise it’s literally two people that never meet in canon going through the most frustrating speed dating slow burn I can create while also being interspersed with random time jumps so I can tell a story that takes place over several years. So I’d say the rest is pretty tame haha

lmaooo leaving on a jetplane’s a bit of a tear-jerker for me too, even before i got into RE. then i realized it oddly fit with the whole dynamic of ashleon in the fic, so if it’s any consolation—yep, i myself stare dramatically into space and imagine an ashleon music video when that song comes on.

as for writing…hmm. i suppose it’s a mishmash of everything i read. i was never privileged enough to take lessons (lessons would have turned me off, anyway); i just have a bit of an imagination, a penchant for explaining stuff, and, in anam cara’s case, i was severely horny for two sets of pixels 💀

i’d love to say i’m a voracious reader, but alas, not really 😭 i just happen to be a bit of a sponge when i read—i subconsciously note the vibes, the writing cadence, how hard a description can make me hallucinate. my writing influences include gabriel garcia marquez, luisa may alcott, andré aciman’s CMBYN, (and in the nonfiction category) standup comedy, memoirs, carrie fisher, cs lewis’ essays, a lil’ bit of david sedaris. garcia marquez would explain the hell-bent-ness on describing the environment. the rest would explain for the penchant for exposition.

(i’m yapping here but if there’s one thing i’d leave you, anon it’s this: there’s a saying that goes “every writer is a reader.” some people just read, but writing’s not up that much in their alley. but every writer must be a reader. so yeah. shoutout to my mom who bought us fairy tale books when we were kids and told us “one day, you’ll learn how to read, so you can enjoy these stories on your own” her daughter’s writing porn about fictional characters now but hey it’s whatever)

Having a Goddess in your living room, bowl of cereal in hand and she stretches and yawns should not be a normal way of starting the day.

Having said Goddess present Herself every single morning for three weeks just to have breakfast and “a tête-a-tête�� with you shouldn’t either. Alas, it had been Agatha’s reality in a weird turn of events.

“Good morning, Lover,” Cerad greeted her, before taking a spoonful of her food and carrying it to her mouth. “I like these cereals better than the others.”

“I’d like them more if you’d stop stealing them,” the mortal walked past her, and sat on the sofa. “Well?”

“Well what?”

“I don’t know. What are we talking about today? So far it’s been about Stars and Cheasya and Fates, as well as my own Faith. Is it any different today?”

“Wouldn’t you like to eat something before? I’ve heard this is the most important meal for you mortals.” But Cerad took a seat next to Agatha when she didn’t answer, resolved to end the conversation as soon as possible. “And, to answer your question, perhaps you’ll be happier to know that today our conversation topic is different.”

“Different doesn’t always mean good.”

Cerad gave her a knowing smile. “Perhaps Casleop would like to know you’ve studied his ways.”

“And maybe you should’ve sent Esumes instead of coming. He is after all the Star of Guidance, is he not? It seems like that’s what you are trying to do here.” Agatha took the remote control, planning on watching TV and ignoring the Goddess’ presence until she got enough and left, but the immortal didn’t allow it. “If you don’t want me doing anything else, you should probably start talking.”

“So many others have perished for talking to me with less rudeness than you, girl,” she warned, but her threat was empty. 

Nobody would dare touch a single hair of Agatha’s head. The consequences were far more terrifying than whatever the benefits could be.

Still, one could visibly see how today Cerad's mood was worse than other days. She was snappier, more tense.

Perhaps she didn't get enough offerings this morning.

The Lover cleared her throat, but lowered her arm and left the remote control on the sofa again. “You have exactly twenty minutes, maybe even less, before any of my mothers wake up and you have to go, so I’d advise you to be quick.” And after a beat she added, “Goddess.”

“I simply am curious about the nature of your feelings for the Prince.” Her words felt like a slam on a table. 

None of them spoke after that: Agatha stunned, unable to form a coherent sentence. Cerad proud, with the satisfaction of having shocked the bratty mortal for once.

“I didn’t know it was any important for the Deities of the Azure,” she finally choked out, and tried to flee by getting up, but Cerad caught her wrist.

Her eyes flashed with urgency, even when her voice was clear and steady.

“Your souls are linked to each other.”

“Jasper never said-”

She was interrupted by a loud noise in the hallway. Rushing to it, she saw Imara and a cloud of glitter around her. 

“Im?”

“Ags, thank the Stars you are awake!” she cried, rushing towards her. The Lover couldn’t help but notice how Imara was still in her pajamas, slippers and all gracing the floor as she pushed the wheelchair towards her. “We have an emergency.”

Agatha turned instinctively towards the living room, meeting Cerad’s eyes. The face of the Goddess was struck by a feeling the mortal didn’t know was possible for her: sorrow.

“Jasper’s turning to marble again.”

first of all, thank you so much that’s so sweet of you!! :,

so, funny thing is,, this was actually planned as a oneshot for part of a series i had in mind. the series being sapphic ships in all sorts of different scenarios where one might die and get eaten (other examples being siren x pirate, or vampire x human) buuut, it kinda ran away from me, ideas wise and so i’d like it to have more chapters. still won’t be anything big i think, i’m just gonna throw out estimated less than 25k words because i suck at planning/outlining fic and coming up with plot lol (but we’re all here to improve so who knows *shrugs*)

basically the babes constantly cross paths (because pandora arranges for it to happen, aka continuing her silly little murder spree and letting herself get caught, but with no evidence) and lily is a little deranged and falls prey to pandora’s charm and they end up indulging their fucked up fantasies together in the most romantic way<3 or maybe pandora does end up eating lily. i really dont know yet i’m only the writer, they do shit of their own accords,,,,

Every other sound that’s coming out of Lily’s larynx is already irritatingly beautiful and exhaustingly enticing. Pandora isn’t sure she wouldn’t come undone in the presence of Lily groaning and panting in pain. Oh, maybe she’s a whimperer.

The first time Lily came onto one of Pandora’s crime scenes she’s pretty sure she fell in love with her.

She hadn’t realized immediately, the glint in Lily’s eyes and not in person, of course, but Xeno has their ways of hacking into security cameras and getting their hands onto whatever footage or information they want—alas Pandora having sent rather explicit death threats, graphic in both the death threat as well as the things she’s going to do to Lily right next to their corpse, to Lily’s bumble matches only a few weeks prior.

i’ve already posted about them some time where Pandora was getting felt up homoerotically pat down for weapons professionally but that’s probably lost somewhere on my blog since i didn’t tag it siigghh

i’m v busy at the moment but this made me really want to write them again, i will fight tooth and nail (my family) to get away for a few hours tonight and pick this back up!!

I have so many thoughts about Edgeworth’s first spin-off game it’s unreal.  In no particular order...

Detective Badd gets the honorary nickname of “Detective Baddass” from me.  He deserves it.  (Also the idea that he’s basically Gumshoe’s mentor is incredibly awesome.  “Never lose your detective’s spirit.”  Aaaaaa.)

I would have been interested in seeing Byrne Faraday and Tyrell Badd being a capable prosecutor-detective duo working on more cases.

Wow, Manfred von Karma showed up in the flashback case and managed to be even more awful!  ... Wait.  That’s not exactly breaking news.

For being a prosecutor, Edgeworth sure spends a lot of time arguing in people’s defense.  He’s defended Kay, Maggey, Gumshoe, Larry and even Franziska throughout this game.

Edgeworth’s inner monologue lets me know that he’s not nearly as composed as he appears to be in court.  He’s also just some guy, only with a fancier suit than Phoenix Wright.

Giving Edgeworth a moral dilemma (whether or not to use illegal evidence to go after someone who appears to be above the law) is a great internal conflict to give him.

Gumshoe is at his absolute best in the Turnabout Ablaze investigation segments getting crucial evidence and being moral support, and I am here for it!

Having Edgeworth’s rival, Shi-Long Lang be a good person at heart and not the final culprit is honestly very refreshing.

Speaking of Lang, I wonder if he’s got any relatives waiting for him back home. I love the idea of him maybe having a mother or grandmother who positively dotes over him and treats him like a kid (no matter how grown up he is.)

The “gang’s all here” moment in the finale was just wonderful. Edgeworth has so many people who will always come through for him. It’s heartwarming to see.  He’s come a long way from being lonely and lost post-Turnabout Goodbyes.

I will be honest with y’all.  The battle vs. Alba at the end dragged out forever.  He just would not give up!  I was almost wishing there was a button I could press to start “trial by combat” where we could settle the whole thing with a duel instead.  Alas, Ace Attorney isn’t and never will be a fighting type series.  Only evidence will do.  (But seriously, I hated Alba’s testimonies.)

The ending montage showing everyone!  I was wondering if I’d see one, since Investigations is under a different writer than the original trilogy.  But there was one and it was splendid.  To me, the credits sequence with the “where are they now” segments for all the different side characters - this was very much in the spirit of the original trilogy and I appreciate this touch.

The last touch carried over from the original trilogy is this:

The finale case photo.  Our snapshot of happiness after so many mysteries solved, and justice served.  It’s a great note to end on.

To answer your question, dear anon, my writing process isn't really anything too special. I usually just sit down in front of my laptop and go, 'what am I gonna write today, I wanna write something'. Normally that works, but not all the time lol, it's mainly me just getting into a mood. I usually spend too much time fantasizing about what is going on in the story that I get so excited I just have to write it down. Other times, I'll listen to music or watch something (like a show or MV) to gather inspiration from it.

A lot of writing is just practice and repetition!! It may feel the same to you, but don't forget, you see your writing more than anyone, so it'll seem 'bland', 'boring', or 'repetitive' a lot. Though, if I start to feel that way, it's usually because I've been using the same words/phrases to describe things, so I try to go back and change how I've either described things or find another word to use. I know I'm really bad for using "once more" throughout my writing lmaooo it was so apparent this most recent chapter of PG to me, but alas, it all worked out in the end.

As for writers block, it can definitely be tricky. A lot of different things work for different people, and honestly, I don't really have a set "I do this and suddenly it's gone". I'm a firm believer in never forcing writing. If the words aren't flowing, then it's just not time for them to jump onto the page. There's no shame in that!! But again, sometimes I just listen to some music or search for some inspiration in some MVs or other types of videos and that helps on occasion.

im new to the genshin impact fandom even tho i’ve loved the game’s music and character designs for like the past year and so, and i’ve watched my brother play it since it came out,,, but i just started playing it for myself like two weeks ago !!!

anyway zhongli has always caught my eye and now that im playing the game and know most of the lore,, i wanted to read some fics about him and came across as gold as gingko trees on ao3 last week

when i tell you that fic changed the entire trajectory of my life in just the span of 5 hours.

Aw, thank you so much! I only got into the fandom like a year ago and am honestly more of a lore reader than a game player. It’s like 30% a retention thing (I get REALLY into new interests and then abandon them before I get really into them again, rinse and repeat), 30% a time thing (kinda like retention, I just can’t find the time to play), and 40% the only console I can play on is my old ass high school laptop and oh. Oh boy it does not like the ice cave in Dragonspine. Anyways that’s just the long way for me to say that I learned all of the lore I know specifically to write fic about it. It’s good lore! I just can’t play the game 90% of the time-

It’s funny because beta for years has rambled about Zhongli but he’s not why I joined. It was the fatui trailer. It was Pantalone. Deadass. Which like happy one year anniversary to my corruption arc!

I’m being jokey but to bring it back, I’m really happy you enjoyed the fic! Every time I say that I feel like it comes off as very copy and paste, but I’m honestly really happy people enjoyed it and I’m really happy I wrote it because at the very least I’d be a miserable little sad sack. It’s so weird to think that this all started as beta giving me inspiration and me needing a distraction from my depression. And then people actually read it? And liked it? I mean I think I’m a good writer but goddamn, how’d I pull it off like that?

I do miss writing it though, but alas. At least we’ve got Ivy living in my inbox asking questions and giving me prompts lmao.
