feeding off of the energy of all the other people in a packed theater, it feels SO much more voyeuristic with strangers sitting right next to you in a dark room with all your senses heightened, the soft gasps, the shocked laughs, people mumbling "what the fuck" to their movie partner next to them under their breath, i cannot describe the high i got off of seeing it in theaters

the genuine goosebumps i had from the soundtrack in surround sound, from rosamund's gut-wrenching scream, it is just not the same at home

i feel like if you didn't see it in theaters, it's not fair to give it a terrible review because it is really a completely different experience

There's some kind of construction going on in my neighborhood requiring the street by the curb to be dug up. There's long, deep trenches just sitting open, and I assume work is happening in them during the day. I only see them at night, when I walk the dog.

The other night, as I was walking the creepy little thing past these empty pits in the road, huge construction vehicles sitting empty nearby, sirens wailing in the distance, I was struck with a vision: An absurdist zombie apocalypse game where your goal as the player is to take a stupid little dog on a nightly walk. The first night is much like mine: You're walking the dog, there's new holes in the road, you can hear sirens somewhere in town, but not much is happening in your neighborhood that night. As the game progresses, getting this stupid little dog all the way around the block becomes more and more challenging as more of your neighbors are turned. Maybe, eventually, a group of survivors convinces you to come with them to somewhere safe, and you're now walking this stupid little dog in new, unfamiliar neighborhoods, seeing how the apocalypse has ravaged these places. Eventually, you reach this safe haven, and the game ends with you taking the stupid little dog on a peaceful walk once again.

Will I ever expect Nintendo writing a Ganondorf who's trying to break the curse and end the cycle? No. I simply think their faithful adherence to the nature of fairytales about the knight rising up to face evil and save the princess is simply that strong. It's a classic (in the most literal sense cite Perseus and Andromeda). It's why I don't believe in a playable Zelda until I see it with my own eyes.

While the earnest nature of providing interesting spins on this millennia old formula is rather endearing, I would welcome earnest breaks in turn as well. Yet until I see it, I simply won't be holding my breath for when it comes.
