he was fine with being the worst part of Sailom's life, and then suddenly discovered so many other things in his life that Sailom has to face every day, and the punishment he gets every month if he doesn't pay his debt, and Kang realises he's the least of Sailom's problems, and he suddenly wants to help him as much as he possibly can. previously, he was offering his money to Sailom but not as comfort or help, but because he recognised his privilege and power and used it to taunt Sailom and to remind him who is in charge. but then he saw two grown men assaulting him and nearly pressing a hot iron to his face, and Kang suddenly saw just how much power and privilege he has, in the sense that he can literally solve most of Sailom's problems (because they mostly boil down to money) without any change in his own status whatsoever

he went from wanting to be the worst part of Sailom's life, to wanting to fix the actual worst parts of his life, and I just love him so much can you blame me for loving him so much

The desert was cold at night, and Scar had, by far, the worst self-preservation skills Grian had ever seen. 

Scar wasn’t stupid, of course, but he certainly had a few less brain cells from time to time, specially when Grian was around. It was most likely on purpose—Grian noticed the laughs and smiles behind his back, when Scar thought he was no longer paying attention. 

But he always did, and got flustered every single time. Perhaps that, too, was on purpose, he could never know for sure. 

Taking all that into account, Grian’s goal of making sure Scar doesn’t die certainly wasn’t an easy one to achieve, but he did the best he could. He got better at fighting, he built them a safe place to call home, and made sure they had everything they could ever need. 

And that included getting some wool and convincing Scar to make himself something nice and warm for the cold nights. 

It wasn’t an easy job, both the convincing (because Scar insisted he was fine with his lack of clothes) and the crafting itself. However, after Scar had his mind set into something, he, in fact, showed how good he could be at it: and, as rudimentary and slow as their method had to be, Scar was great at knitting.

It quickly became some sort of comfort for them: each night, after an exhausting day of problems, anxiety, and the threat of bloodshed, they would curl themselves around a lit up furnace, and Grian would watch Scar knit for a few hours.

Then, they talked about everything and nothing at all, and Grian dared to casually touch Scar’s unbelievably warm skin, as he used to do, back when things were simpler. He dared to lean in Scar’s direction, and listen to his steady, comforting breath so close to him. 

He wished things stayed like that forever. 

“I don’t think I understand what you’re doing,” Grian said, on the third night they did that. He had just finished feeding Scar a bowl of warm stew—something Grian never thought he’d have to do, yet there he was. “Isn’t it getting too big? We might run out of yarn.” 

Scar stopped his knitting in the middle of a stitch, and Grian noticed the frown in his face as he did so. 

“We can’t run out of yarn.”

“Scar, I’m telling you, it might happen.” 

Scar looked down, his yellowish eyes meeting Grian’s green ones. There was some concern, of sorts, in his expression—something that didn’t match him. 

“It can’t. We should get more tomorrow.” 

It was Grian’s turn to frown. 

“It’d take us hours to get it prepared,” he complained, since he would end up doing most of the work, anyway. “We don’t have time. Besides, I can’t guarantee we’ll find any healthy sheep in the wild.”

Scar sighed. 

“Then how is this blanket supposed to cover both of us?”

Grian opened his mouth to answer, but immediately closed it again—and his cheeks started to heat up, once he realized what Scar has just said. 

“I thought you were going to make a sweater,” he muttered. 

“I was going to make one, but I don’t like wearing heavy clothes, so I changed for a blanket.”  

Unbelievable. And Grian even thought he had managed to put some common sense on Scar’s head. 

Apparently, it didn’t work—all it did, in the end, was make him flustered once again. 

“And you want it to be a couple blanket?”  

“Yes.” 

“Scar—” Grian hid his face in his hands, even if Scar would never need to see the red in his face to know he was blushing. “We don’t even use the same bed.” 

Scar held his wrist, and Grian peaked through his fingers just in time to see the smile on his face. 

“But we could—” And it was his convincing Grian of some bullshit tone again. 

Grian bumped his shoulder against Scar. He stopped hiding his face, but still refused to look at Scar—he didn’t need to embarrass himself further, specially when Scar was doing that with his voice.  

“I hate when you use the stupid smooth talk on me.”

“What can I say? It’s the most effective on you.” Scar smiled, and he took Grian’s hand to his lips, gently kissing his knuckles. And it certainly didn’t help Grian’s blushing issue. “Besides, we haven’t shared a bed in so long.”

“Yes, because things rarely end well when we do.” He could attempt to argue, even when he could already see himself agreeing.

“You mean—”

“I mean the many times we fell off,” he quickly interrupted Scar, since he never trusted what that mouth had to say. “And I certainly don’t mean what you were about to say.” 

“I wasn’t even going to say anything!” Scar replied, and Grian gave him an inquisitive look. “But you always have fun when we do.” 

“Scar—”

Scar shushed him with a quick kiss on the curve of his neck—because Grian had no other option but to hum contently and melt ever so slightly against his partner. 

“Please?” he said. “It’s so cold outside.”

Grian didn’t hold back his smile.

“Oh, so you’re cold now?” 

“If being cold will get you to cuddle with me, then I’m freezing.”  

Grian sighed, but it was far from annoyance—he closed his eyes, and allowed Scar to give a few more kisses on his neck, in an attempt to convince him, even if Grian was very much sold already.

He could wait until tomorrow to think of the consequences, but now? 

Now, he was cold, and he missed his Scar. 

“Fine,” he said, and Scar stopped. “I’ll do it. And I’ll get more wool tomorrow.” 

Scar smiled, and then he kissed the edge of Grian’s lip—his lowest move, perhaps, and the one he did so well. 

“That’s my dear.”

i have consulted the gang and i have been told that i am good at tying the physical and emotional together (which is something i do Deliberately try to do as much as i can) and that i am very meticulous with what words i choose to use to carry a mood

DIALOGUE GOOD GOD. every single bit of dialogue ive ever written has been like pulling teeth. the thing is i dont know how to talk like a human person and i dont know how human people talk so it is my worst nightmare. one of my eternal wips is one i started and got like 3k words into before realizing that the dialogue would have to do the heavy lifting for the rest of the fic and then i was like "oh god damn it im an idiot arent i". also sentence structure that isnt subject-verb-object. but im kind of leaning into it tbh.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

my honest to be honest opinion is just. write the dialogue in english and if you NEED to specify what language the character is speaking just be like "he says in [language]" UNLESS the pov character doesnt understand what theyre saying. literally simple as that.

f1 baby!!! this is literally the first fandom that has broken through the barrier in my brain thats kept me from writing fic my entire life. not even amc's the terror 2018 could do that.

tbh ive seen some dumb shit said about writing but generally my rule is "if anyone tries to posit something is a hard and fast rule and not a suggestion for one kind of style... no it's not" ESPECIALLY on this hellsite or twitter, writing is an art and art is unique to the artist. i think the backlash against epithets lately ("the brunette," "the older man," etc) and insisting on all these different things that are the ONE AND ONLY DEFINITELY acceptable places to use them is probably one that jumps out the most to me, cause i use epithets plenty and certainly not in any of the ways that writeblr will tell you are the One True Correct way to do it, it's all in what flows right in the narrative point, we're doing art here if an epithet feels right in that spot then it's fine there shut up

41. Do you tend to reread fics or are you a one-and-done kind of person?

depends on the fic! if it's in my bookmarks, i probably intend to go back and reread it at some point, that's where i store anything i might want to find again. i have a handful of beloved old comfort rereads to go back to when i need that little microdose of serotonin.

74. You’ve posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess that you’d written it?

p. probably the politics. fictional politics is my passion. also i've been told that i have a knack for making background characters who will only appear in one scene and then never again still feel like real people who exist in the world, instead of just filler npcs there to fill a slot, so that might be it?

and how i write food and eating, apparently. i've also been told i write food with a sort of love and longing that makes people want to eat and to love food the way i love it, so that might be a trademark.

okay so i went into this game assuming kanerah would be my fave and i was like. ready to finally not have to headcanon a romance and shit. and then this bitch named valerie came along. and oh my god she's such a piece of work. so principled. so hypocritical. so abrasive and easy to rile up. she's loyal because she's decided to be loyal. she turns on you for wanting to kill a guy early in act 2 and then turns BACK on him because he hits on her. she doesnt even realise shes gay. ever since she killed fredero because esteem pushed her to do it ive been thinking about it. ive not read the dialogue for her canon straight romance or whatever because honestly i dont care whatever the fuck im doing to her in my head is way more interesting to me. ive done all the stuff for her hellknight ending and im very excited heehee.

Hello! Saw your last post and got me thinking: What do you think Vace and Lin would be like as parents? I imagine that fatherhood wouldn't come to him as easily, but I think he would earnestly try to be better than both his parents 😁

oh yeah absolutely i think post therapy vace is a better dad than his family (low bar) and i think in therapy he has like the self awareness? to try and push past that

actually therapy vace is very fun in general bc like. i think one of vace's qualities regardless of therapy is how he pushes himself to be The Best it's just like a reframing of what The Best is u kno. there's a reason his cards are vace's confidence u kno. and that confidence is in some ways genuinely earned like!!! he IS the best soldier on the helio!!! like!!!! he has all those awards and he's very smart and like. it makes sense!!!

but then he goes to therapy and he starts like. reframing some of his stuff re:being Good and like what it means to be not just Good At Things but a Good Person and like. thats so much more difficult for him u kno in ways that other stuff wouldnt necessarily be. esp bc a lot of the stuff involved is like, him moving to be more vulnerable and show weakness and forgive ppl and those are not things he's good at naturally which is like. just very fun wwww

the reason i bring this up re:his parenting: i dont think he'd want to be a parent until he's really dealt with a lot of the worst of his shit. he mentions this in his 100 right: he's aware his whole thing comes from his dad who he has an IMMESNELY complicated rship w/. i do actually think vace is a pretty good dad in these circumstances! i think he's protective and caring and i think in context w/rship with lin especially where he's got a partner that's good at reframing issues from "you versus me" to "you and me against the problem" it helps him get in that mindset with kids as well u kno.

i think tho in some ways he's better w/them when they're little GLKHSDLKGH i think he might be a bit overprotective when theyre older. i am shy talkign abt lin but im even shyer talking abt the fankids i made for them but i DO think its immensely funny for him to have his daughter hit adolescence and be like. ok im not calling u daddy anymore. and not bc she's embarrassed abt being a daddys girl or antying she just needs him to realize shes practically an ADULT NOW (vace meanwhile is there like. you are Not an adult jesus christ)

lin meanwhile is like...... practical wwww ive talked abt this in other places but he has difficulty with people sometimes bc of his augment. he's not great at comforting tbh! i think if the kids are upset adn htey want hugs abt it they go to vace. lin tho i think is the parent they turn towards for more serious stuff? bc vace despite everything still is very emotional while lin is very Not that u kno. so they can be like. uh. papa. ive fucked up. and lin is like (guy whose response to literally Everyhting is How Do We Fix This) How Do We F

in some ways as well i think the kids and lin grow closer as they get older. not to say i think they necessarily grow Away from vace but the way you interact w/small kids versus when u interact w/older ones means i think vace would do better w/the really younger ones while there'd be a bit of disconnect btwn them and lin until they're older u kno. lin is bad at mirroring and coddling and part of the thing abt his rship w/vace is it does help him get better at dealing w/other ppl w/strong emotions, part of that also relies on vace understnading that lin is trying u kno. and that's not a capacity kids really have at such young ages?

overall tho. i do think they are pretty good parents wwwww vace does hover too much but lin i think helps him dial it back wwww and lin struggles more at first but he gets there. their kids i think grow up well! and that's what matters!
