He lay on the floor, a little trickle of blood coming from his mouth as he choked on it. His head rested against stones that glowed purple and he stared unseeingly at the cave around them. They were so close. So close to the surface. It was right there. Distantly, he thought he heard someone screaming. It was fuzzy and muffled to his ears as his entire body drooped and his vision went black.

Scar and Mumbo could only watch in horror as the rift cracked at the wall more, engulfing Grian’s head. His head fell limply back, and his body was sucked inside, wings making a horrible dragging noise along the floor. Scar had to grab Mumbo, strength not enough to hold him back as he raced to the Rift, trying to stop it. Clawed hands tangled in feathers and tore at the skin but they were unable to stop Grian’s body from disappearing.

Mumbo breathed heavily and then he screamed again, his face melting into the shadows around him, Scar feeling a pulse of magic thrum through the entire area. Magic fueled by grief. He stared at the purple glow, and it lit his face. It was the only light in the entire cave and yet there were no mobs.

They’d been so close. It wasn’t fair. Mumbo’s magic shook the entire cave, fed by its too dark walls. Scar could only take a struggling breath and try to pull the man closer.

“We need to go – it’s following us-“ he said, quietly. Mumbo’s screams couldn’t have been good for a creature that hunted by sound.

“What’s the point of living for centuries if we don’t have everyone,” the vampire hissed in red, his eyes glowing red. “I could have saved him.”

The cave shuddered again. The Rift…pulsated in front of them. On instinct both Mumbo and Scar moved from it quickly, watching as light twinkled and pulsated from within. Scar felt sickness at the bottom of his throat as he struggled to move Mumbo further back.

The brightness of the Rift caused Mumbo to hiss and flinch into Scar’s chest, trying to cover his eyes. It burned Scar’s as well, the elven man flinching in pain and turning away.

Grian stepped into the cave and retched, collapsing in a heap. His skin marred purple in crack formations, his feathers too. He retched again, unable to see anything. The void stared back at him. He heard nothing but he could feel cold stone underneath his hands. No – he couldn’t be back. He worked so hard.

There were hands on his shoulders, and he thrashed and screamed. His wings flared behind him, and a hand came up to cover his mouth. He couldn’t even hear the sound of his own voice, but he kept screaming anyway, hoping the noise would dislodge something in the ceiling and smash him to bits. Talons clawed forward sight unseen until he couldn’t move his arms. He started kicking, but he couldn’t move those either.

14.-Hazbin Hotel (season 1)

I'm not someone who enjoys negative ranting on media. But oh my god I didn't like this show. Thankfully I watched this along side my GF and my Bestie but still, it was quite dreadful getting through this show. The script was annoying. All of those parodies about Vivzie's shows are true, there's always a swear in most sentences. It stops being funny and it becomes annoying, cringe even. I don't get this show, is it a comedy or a genuine attempt of making a social commentary??? It tries to tell a story about redemption and the value of change, but it doesn't have the pay off nor the build up to excel imo. For most of the runtime, this show barely attempts to dive deep into the nuance of the characters, most of the time if there is nuance to be found. It later decides to either treat it as a joke or rush to no end, lacking the payoff expected for serious issues like sexual and psychological abuse. The visuals were also kinda sucky. It has a unique style no doubt. But everything blends together when there's so much color overlap and over designed characters with similar motifs and color palettes. Most of the songs are alright on their own, but in the show itself, I only enjoyed like half of them. Yeah this show wasn't for me, and the more I think about it, the angrier I get ngl.

Love letter to shojo media (? One of my favorite shows rn, it's so comfy, yet it still pulls them punches with the drama when it needs to. Every character is so loveable and the humor is wholesome fun. I really like how it develops the characters thru meaningful interactions and moments that pushes these teens foward. I'm loving this show, quite excited for S3 later on this year :]

#16.-Sonic Frontiers (main game replay and update 2 content playthrough)

I still really like this game! Admitedly, its luster did shine off a bit now that it's been a while since the original release. This time more cracks became more noticeable to me, particularly the plot itself is rather empty and on a second playthrough it brings the game down a tad bit. The last section in Ouranos island is veryy weak plot wise, even though I had a blast with the gameplay. I still believe that this is a cleverly designed game, but I wished it had more production values behind it. By far the main aspect that will age the game later on. This game kinda lacks the visual aesthetic and presence that many other games in this franchise have. Not only that, the new additions like the jump acceleration kind of made some of the open zone sections kind of dry... I really look foward to the next mainline game, this game is still the best step in the right direction it could've been. The update 2 content was also really fun! I really like the action challenges and the new kokos were neat to get. I mightttt need another replay to abuse the spindash to hell and back, but I still need to finish new horizons as of writing.

#17.-Sonic Frontiers: Final Horizons update

Damn was this a mixbag. I'm a bit underwhelmed ngl. It wasn't bad, but it kinda pushed the game to its absolute limits, and not in a pleasant way. The unrefinement from the main game is in an all time high. The new island content and characters are ok. Amy is fine for the most part, doe I wish she was able to wall climb. Knuckles was so much fun and I hope they use this template for future appearances. And Tails' tornado was so broken that made his sections redundant. I think everyone but knuckles kinda show the issues with the open zone. You can skip so much of the platforming that it kinda robs you from the main draw of the game. The new cyberspace levels are really cool!! But I did not enjoy completing the extra missions, they made the experience far more frustrating and unpleasant, not only that but you hardly even need to engange with cyberspace, but i'll get to it in a second. The new mixes are nice and the new levels are pretty sick and fun to speedrun but I still feel like they don't benefit from the asset re-use and the weird jank the game has.

The tower challenges were a bit of a mixbag, the platforming got a bit obnoxious on tower 2 and 4 ngl, but I did enjoy the trials. Trial 5 is no doubt quite infamous, but I actually found it fun, I liked figuring out how to minmax my time defeating the titans. It kinda show how clunky the parry and the animations are however, and yet, it also made me appreciate the enemy design and the combat way more than I already did! Finally, we got a new final boss battle, and it was alright? The spectacle was nice, but after all the things I had to do to even get there, I'd rather have the original ouranos island section as easy and anticlimatic it might've been. The new added story wasn't that much different either, just a tad more flashy with a bit more involvement from the main cast. Overall it was an ok addition, but I wished I didn't spent that much time doing the extra missions and stuff, many of the parts of this update lacks the incentive I desired and at times, the payoff I expected. Which is why it felt underwhelming for me. I hope the next game is an improvement over final horizons, if this is going to be the main base for the forseeable future, then there's still work to be done.

#18.-Super Mario Bros (NES)

I'm starting to play more retro games as of lately since I really want to have more games that I can replay whenever I want a quick gaming session aside from Mega man and Sonic. So I'm want to try the 2D Mario games since admitedly, I was never a Mario guy (If you couldn't tell by my Sonic fanatism). 2D Mario has never grabbed my attention since it is rather vanilla and the "new super mario" series also left a very bad taste in my mouth just like everyone else growing up. Anyway, og super mario on NES was fun tbh. It is quite challenging for modern standards, but I found plenty to like tbh. The potential for further replays is hampered by those tight physics doe, I'm already playing SMB3 (I'm gonna skip 2 for the time being tbh) and I can already tell that the control was pretty tight in this first game. Hammer bros are really agressive too. I'm glad I'm finally beat this game, even though it cramped my hands like a MF bc I played this on a 3DS.

#19.-Kimi Ni Todoke (Season 2)

THIS WAS PRETTY GOOD, the drama got pretty interesting and it developed the characters extremely well. It has a ton of nuance that I want to rewatch and admire all over again ngl. Left extremely soft after watching it. Can't wait for season 3

okay im back so the post i linked to that was deleted was something along the lines of like "when my wife leaves for work i sit and face the wall and wait for her to come home" which was very changer and buzzer beater sungchan to me.

I did notice that your archived some of your old fics cause like another recent anon i have been reading your works since like 2019 (home was my first fic of yours and then the sleeping cinderella series and three kept me coming back) and yeah i get it there is a difference between some of your old fics and your fics from like three onwards and as a longtime fan its really nice to see how you've grown as an author.

as for the height inclusivity, i do completely understand cause there are many gorgeous, tall women out there but your comment about how kun is 1 inch taller than you was really funny to me cause like, you really said they ain't shit 💀💀💀 as for myself im 161cm so i know that if i was to meet renjun id probably reach his eyebrows or maybe his hairline if i was really lucky but in spirit im the same height as xiaojun, renjun, taeil and ten and if we met id like to imagine that we'd all be mischievous little gremlins together. (random side note i watched the fnaf movie the other day and josh hutcherson is like 165cm, he's bestie babygirl height but you wouldn't know it cause he's got a bit of a beefcake build and most of the movie was solo shots so you didnt have many chances to compare him to other people. on the other hand, matthew lillard, who plays the bad guy, is 192CM! there was a scene where hes standing at a desk as josh hutch leaves the room and it looks like matthew is standing on a platform cause of how big the height difference is). also you're right that sicheng is kind of considered tall now in comparison to the rest of wayv cause now that dozen left, its literally just one tall dude and 5 toddlers (also have you seen that clip of wayv being lowered off the stage standing all cool and shit like the avengers or something but the thing doesn't lower enough and they all have to duck and run off stage?) but yeah inclusion is super important and it really does detract from fics for me when im supposed to be a curvaceous blonde with blue eyes 💀

as for the timeline, i did not expect romance is dead to be around the middle but then again i didnt really know much about how it fit contextually anyways. I also need to brush up on my american college language and term structure cause like freshman, sophomore, junior, senior like i kinda get but like sophomore sounds really fancy and junior is well, junior so i thought they would be flipped. Also in australia our school year starts at the beginning of the year and ends at the end cause summer is dec-feb but i forgot that its all flipped for you guys (the way the dreamies release really summery tracks in july but im listening to them as i sit indoors, wrapped in blankets)

when it comes to ppl irl being taller/shorter than me i was always kinda tall growing up (usually one of the tallest in my class at school), then around high school i stopped being considered "tall" by the other kids bc the boys my age finally hit puberty and i stopped growing at 172cm/5'8" so i stopped considering myself to be tall and just sort of....average? except NOW i work in a weirdly short office. like my coworkers are all so short that i feel tall again 😭 truly height is relative. we have maybe 3 ppl in the whole office (out of 30+ employees) who are 180cm/6ft or more and NOBODY is over 187cm/6'2. i s2g most of the men are shorter than me, i feel like i could step on them and there is only one woman who is taller than me and she's probably only an inch or two taller than me, not considerably so. height soooo relative tbh 😭😭

yeah i do default to northern hemisphere season and usamerican university years/semesters bc that's how the flow of time makes sense in my brain and that's how it's easiest to keep track of the timelines in fics for me as i'm writing since it's what i'm accustomed to, but i'm sure it can be disorienting for ppl whose countries don't work like that, that's why i generally try not to make it too overt if it's not relevant to the plot of the fic. the timeline was just a fun little extra thing i was curious about if anybody had picked up on

Hello, hello, it's that time of the week: rec day!! Now, I'm not sure I've ever done one of these (I'm terrible at keeping track of my readings, shame on me) but I decided to start today!

Okay, I know I'm biased to talk about this one, because.. it was written for me 😂 still, I need to talk about it. It's got Dark Academy + mystery in a high school setting, and the plot is super smart and compelling. The execution is really original while still being packed with a lot of my favorite tropes and some lovely nods to canon. You just need to read it!

Ok, I'm kind of obsessed with this one. It's a figure skating AU full of technical details I'm loving to see, and a thickening plot I'm loving even more. Usually, I'm not so eager to read slow burns, bit this one's got me hooked!

Watford Wonderland by @otherworldsivelivedin (Gen, ongoing)

This is another WIP I'm really loving: it's got the lingering winter cheer I'd like to wrap around myself for the rest of the year, and some A+ crocheting rivalry between Simon and Baz, which is a scenery I never considered for them, but it works wonderfully well! (Plus, it's really funny and light-hearted!!)

At The Top of a Tower, With You by @palimpsessed (Gen, one-shot)

This is an older work I just got around to recently, and I have to say it got me right in the feels. It's Lucy POV, beautifully poetic, and just a tad bit heartbreaking.

This one is just really soft, it's got gorgeous imagery, and Baz being utterly and unapologetically in love with Simon. Seriously, it's so wholesome.

This one is also wholesome, really funny and cute! It's filled with rom-com tropes, which I'm a sucker for (including an airport chase scene!!) and I'm excited for more!!

King Arthur AU with some of the most beautiful imagery I've read recently, and it's lovely to read with my favorite album playing on the background. I swear it gave me chills. Just. Go read it. Go.

Understand the Undernetting

Weechesters WIP. Read Chapter One on AO3.

Fourteen-year-old Dean falls for the sex worker next door. Featuring two very codependent Winchesters. The last fic I posted was wholesome; this one is not. Read the warnings in the author's note.

Summary:

If you asked Dean Winchester who his first love was, he would tell you it was Cindy Good in the eighth grade. That would be a lie. Cindy Good was the first girl he got to second base with, but not the first he loved. He didn't know love until the summer of '93, when he met Suzie. He never learned her last name, couldn't be sure Suzie was her real name. Never kissed her, either. He didn't even realize it was love until he'd left her behind.

Dean learns about love. The hard way. It's not a pretty story.

Excerpt:

Seriously, Dean's gonna vibrate right out of his skin. He gnaws his lip till it's raw and chews his nails to the quick. Something's gotta give.

It finally does, on Suzie's couch in the middle of the afternoon.

Dean couldn't even say what started it. Sam was being Sam. Dean was telling him not to be a princess. Sam started yelling, and he had to go and bring Dad into it. Dean cuffed him on the ear because Sam's not supposed to talk about Dad in front of strangers and seriously, Suzie's right there in the kitchen—and then Sam bites him. The little fucker.

The next second they're grappling on the floor. Dean has the advantage of size and strength, but he can't match Sam for sheer ferocity. There's some part of himself Dean can't let go of when it comes to his little brother. Sam's got no such restraint. He's clawing at Dean's shoulders and Dean swears to God the only thing saving him from some vicious scratch marks is his worn Metallica tee.

And damn, the kid is wriggly. He's nearly out of Dean's grasp, knees him in the jaw so Dean's teeth clack loud inside his skull. Dean circles his hands around Sam's calves and tugs. Hard enough that Sammy's gonna have rug burn on his back where his shirt rides up. Serves him right.

Dean smothers him with his whole body, gets him in a leg lock. Pins his wrists overhead, almost hard enough to bruise. Not quite, but almost.

Sam lets out an oof as Dean's full weight bears down on him. Dean makes sure he feels it. Gets the message. Satisfaction licks up his spine at the thought that Sam can only move, can only breathe, if he allows it.

Sam glowers. "Get off," he wheezes.

"You're sloppy." Dean smirks. "What'd you do wrong?"

"Deeean." Sam tries to buck him. Fat chance. Dean presses down harder.

Sam huffs. He's breathing in shallow pants.

"I—shoulda—bridged my hips. Made space. To push you off."

It's a good answer. Dean pretends to consider it. Allows himself one more smug moment to feel all of Sam trapped underneath him.

"Mighta worked."

Dean rolls off. Sam lies there and sucks in air. Dean sits up—and finds Suzie staring.

It's not the type of stare Dean is used to getting from strangers. The kind they get when they've broken some unspoken rule of "normal" that no one ever thought to teach them. The kind that makes Dean feel like he's given away too much. Puts him on edge for 48 hours, listening for a knock at the door or a car pulling up. On the lookout for people with sweaters and nametags and bleeding-heart eyes asking questions about where their parents are.

That's not the look Suzie's giving him. She's staring at him with interest. Like she's really noticing him for the first time. Dean's stomach flips.

He stands. Straightens his clothes. Helps Sam to his feet, like a good brother.

"Sorry about that," he says to Suzie.

She raises an eyebrow. "Just don't break any furniture. Or bones."

- there was a sex tropes prompt meme that I’ve had on my list for ages because people asked for a few things, so there are a bunch of fun Rebelcaptain prompts in that vein that I swear I have not forgotten!!!

- separately, I was prompted a million years ago for Rebelcaptain + 69, and also Rebelcaptain + pegging… (… where is that post about one day writing something wholesome for this fandom XD XD XD)

- I swear, I will get to “I love you” in cast some light, I will, I will

- I have had nebulous thoughts about Leia yelling at Luke in my trans!Luke / rise at dawn 'verse (not sure how TLJ will affect any of that)

… Idk, I guess it’s all Star Wars all the time still over here as far as my somewhat concrete writing plans go!!! XD

AO3 is telling me 40, but that seems like a really low number! I know there are fics that belong on my bookmarks page that I have forgotten to put on there– @rain-sleet-snow’s incredible This Crude Matter comes to mind immediately.

Hahahahahahaha!!!!!! Rogue One, obviously!!!!!

I will say though, that I would KILL for more Shades of Magic fic (only 61 works on AO3! /sobs) so I suppose one of these days, I’ll have to write Kell/Lila fic to help fix that!
