thinking about the fionna and cake finale and. i've been seeing people upset or annoyed that betty & simon's story focused on how simon had to learn to recognize that what they had was unbalanced and not necessarily fair, because they wanted betty to also realize that she placed too much of her self worth in simon, and they wanted her to learn to live for herself.

i think these people forgot about the episode in adventure time that does this. mainly because, at the end of the episode, it seems like she didn't learn anything at all.

In s10e11, "Temple of Mars," Finn, Jermaine, and Betty have to go through a mind maze to find Jake--and many parts of the maze are relevant to Betty's obsession with Simon/Ice King.

The second room of the "maze" has a chalkboard with a long and complicated equation on it. Betty tries to solve it, thinking it will help, while an Ice Thing messes up the equation as she tries to solve it, preventing her from doing so. It's meant to represent how trying to "solve" the crown's curse is leading nowhere, and that Betty is trying for a hopeless cause.

The last room is the most important to Betty's story, though--it's a window into her past, where she realizes that she needed to take more time for herself. She needed to focus on her, instead of dropping everything for Simon. She makes this realization and changes things for the hypothetical, maze room version of Betty--but naturally, this can't change the past. She's made her choices, and she has to live with that.

I think at the end of the episode, when she takes the "wrong" message away from all of this--she dedicates herself to trying even harder to "fix" Simon--it's mostly because she's scared to accept that she... not wasted, but lost so much of her life because she was so focused on what Simon wanted, or what she thought that Simon needed. She's also still under the effect of the Magic Man hat, so she's still affected by the sadness/madness of that, which likely twisted her view of the situation as well.

But then in the AT finale, she makes her choice to leave Simon. She does it through wishing for his safety, sure, but she still makes the choice to leave him. And in Fionna and Cake, what we see of her--or what's left of her, because we don't know how she's changed, really--is something bigger than what she was before. GOLBetty seems to have realized her own part in the unbalancing of the relationship between them. But that's not what Fionna and Cake is about--it's about Simon, and how he has to move on. Betty has already moved on by the time we see her again. She's showing Simon that, and she's showing him that he has to move on, too. But it's her choice. She could have stayed with him, but...

She takes the bus to the airport. And she takes it without him.

I was going to say this if I got asked about charlevin for that ask meme and i havent so I'm saying it anyway. Charles does not follow Kevin and whatever he wants or believes blindly idk where that comes from. the conflict between them in tmua stems from their relationship not being the way Kevin originally wanted it to be. thats kind of the whole thing. and even on the religion front, yeah Charles is also a theocrat, but when he believes its a threat to the town he disagrees with Kevin's want to build the mudstone abyss and tells him he thinks he should call off the digging (which notably, Kevin disagrees with and essentially says Charles is wrong and doesn't know what he's talking about without directly saying it). the most you could make for an argument is Charles listening when Kevin says he should bring Donny and his planes to the abyss but that could just as easily be- and is more likely imo- him wanting to help the town (also we do not hear this conversation itself so we dont know exactly how it went down but i doubt it went from them arguing to Kevin being like "take your son to this giant dangerous pit now" and Charles immediately going "oh okay"). i guess maybe it comes from. well partly assuming they're more like Cecil and Carlos. but also from looking at db's and both of their religion thing and assuming. so Charles would worship Kevin. which he really doesn't at all? the first thing that's established is that he sees Kevin as. just some guy like anyone else. one he's romantically and sexually interested in but just some guy nonetheless. and I do think they definitely roleplay the worship thing for kink reasons, and that there is a level Charles "worships" Kevin- but its not as a god or even a prophet, but as a person he loves, which its very different from worshiping in a religious, blind devotion sense.

#why are people so fkn dramatic and mean????#i took last week off because i was feeling terrible mentally bc i couldnt deal with one of my coworkers who also happens to be my friend #since high school....#and every time im sick she wants me to hang out because then she can leave early and take an earlier buss home #and its so annoying that thats the only time she actually wants to hang out #and ive been ignoring her calls all week and she wouldnt stop so i asked her to leave me alone for now....#and when i finally went back to work today she gave me the silent treatment so i decided not to interact #and then everyone else at work started acting weird and rude for no reason #which makes me think she had something to do with it because she loves getting comforted and making everyone else around her the bad guy...#like yea i shouldve probs told her off in a nicer way but it just became too fkn much and she can never take no for an answer either....#idk today was hell and i cant wait to fkn quit even tho its only been 3 months.....#the wrost part is that im her assistant and she just switched me out for someone else which made people #even more suspicious cause they knew something was up #esp bc she started hanging out with the coworker she despises and always talks badly about her #and has been talking to her all day just to be petty...

it's been a month since i finished days. whoops!

i already had super high expectations for days because mage had been whispering in my ear about it, and i'm still working on the secret reports for this while i don't have a ton of time on my hands but god i fucking enjoyed days. i think it's now been too long since i played it so it's not fresh any more but i still should talk about it before i forget so.

the story makes it so easy to care about the characters and i think it brings out each individual personality very well! roxas is a really interesting narrator to watch the developments with because of how he doesn't know anything and doesn't even have memories, and also how easily influenced he can be by the other org members because of it... and also watching how he grows while knowing where he ends up in kh2 just. hurts? you see him being happy and hanging out with his friends and then you remember that he cannot win his fight with sora for his right to be himself... (maybe this is also influenced by the awful /pos posts i see often about roxas and resentment and just in general how little the narrative cares about what he actually wants. but. yeah)

i remember talking a bit about unreliable narrators while i was reading the story? i think it's an especially enjoyable experience because of what we've learned about nobodies in kh2 (like how they supposedly don't have hearts? i went through a lot of days knowing that the nobodies do feel emotions and hearing them repeat that they don't have hearts to feel with over and over they don't when you can see roxas clearly having feelings more and more as time passes... is a compelling argument for the unreliability of the knowledge you get, or at the very least this specific statement) and how biased sora is against them in comparison (to go as far as antagonising them on the spot, which is one thing i didn't exactly like when i was playing kh2... i really wished we got to see them integrate the org into the story better and understand them before we take them out). in that sense i'm really glad that days gives you the opportunity to actually get to know the nobodies, especially the ones that you don't get to see in depth in com! (this is how i ended up getting interested in demyx? the fact that apparently we don't know anything about him still also bumps my enjoyment of him up quite a bit? he's so funny. tell me more about him.) (i'm also glad we got to see their side of their goal and the justifications they have for pursuing them...! even if they sound like a fucking cult!)

anyway, roxas not knowing anything and the org deliberately keeping him in the dark about everything was really fun to read because. you can tell all he wants is to chill out with his friends and eat ice cream after missions and instead the people around him treat him like a tool and have plans for him and xion and keeping him in the dark so that they can use him better is just the best way of handling things to them... you really can feel how frustrated he is by the end and how he's doubting everything he's been taught because of all the times he's been brushed off and not been told the truth. and you can see the moments when the carefully constructed and curated web of (rather, lack of) information around him (and xion, too) starts to crumble and he starts fighting to get out... even at the end after he decides to choose his own path and be willing to fight for it (while being able to see the consequences of xion fighting)... without truly finding out who he is or being able to find his own purpose or anything, he ends up immediately getting violently thrown into a situation completely out of his control and this time it feels like the world itself is straight up poking fun at him? and still nobody is telling him anything? and when he does things he actually wants to do he ends up being punished and feeling alienated for it? like as i kept playing i kept thinking ough..... no wonder roxas is so easy to like... he's just a guy trying to find purpose and meaning for himself in a place where he isn't even allowed to want that and it fucks me up tbh

i'd heard that seasalt trio were the best-written trio friendship in the series and yeah i can fucking tell why. and you're telling me these guys don't even fully understand what friendship is? man. it was genuinely really enjoyable watching them just chill and banter over ice cream? i honestly really enjoyed the "friends are people you eat ice cream with" thing because of how sincerely it's taken and how much roxas and xion believe in it... i can still hear that "who else am i gonna eat ice cream with?" line clear as day from day 357... i also still feel ill about the line namine says about not expecting them to try so hard to become their own people... in the end neither of them end up being allowed to become their own person after all... ough......

also now knowing how roxas left axel by the end makes me feel even More ill about axel dying before he could see roxas again properly... i liked seeing the contrast of axel with roxas and xion, and seeing how they bring out a more caring side of him even if he ends up doing his tough love thing... but he's still the one who brings them together by saying that if they remember each other they'll always be together... and he's the one who says they're best friends... i'm glad we get to see him and understand why he was so desperate in kh2, i'm glad we get to know him... i can tell there's still a lot to uncover about this guy but he's a fun guy... i want to see him again.........

i've probably forgotten tons of points i wanted to say here but it was a fun game!!! i enjoyed the gameplay as well and i enjoyed the perspective it gave on the previous games! i'd really like to go back to kh2 prologue and also com to better understand what happened there as well, but since i'm kinda gauntletting these games and i'm pretty busy recently it's hard to find time for it... i will do my best to enjoy the games as much as i can......!

Warbreaker Book Review

(spoilers, obviously)

I have lately finished my fourth read of Warbreaker, and it's probably my least favorite of Sanderson's Cosmere books. I know it's a favorite of a lot of fans, and I fully expected to like it just as much as them but... I was disappointed.

To be clear, this is still a good book, I just like it less than the other Cosmere books. I'm mostly going to complain about what I didn't like because that's more fun to write about, but again, I did overall like the book. I'd give it a strong 6/10, and I have liked more upon every re-read. I think part of that is because once i had read it once, I knew what was coming, and so wasn't as easily bogged down in directionless boredom...which unfortunately is what happened to me the first time I read it.

This book has lots of strong points--the characters are wonderful, the worldbuilding is great, and the magic system is perhaps the most unique I've ever seen.

But the plot. Oh, the plot.

Nothing fucking happens for like the whole middle of the book! It was so frustrating! I really enjoyed living in its world, but every time I opened it up to hang out there, nothing was going on! All three main POVs--Lightsong, Vivenna, and Siri, spend almost the entire book at a total loss for what to do. There's no direction, no forward momentum, because all three of them don't know what they're doing.

It's like reading a mystery book where the detective, instead of going out and looking for clues, interviewing suspects, and putting the pieces together, just had chapter after chapter of him thinking to himself "Hm. Something's definitely going on here. But I don't know what and I don't know what I'm looking for. But I sure do need to solve the case."

Vivenna spends almost the whole book being led around by Denth, and we aren't even privy to the plans he tells her, so we don't have an opportunity to guess what's coming. Every Vivenna chapter is just "And here I am in (place) doing (thing) because Denth said it was a good idea. Also everyone here is a slut except me."

Lightsong is useless on purpose, which is very charming and I love him. But again, every Lightsong chapter is the same. "War might be coming. Maybe I will do something about it (does nothing about it). Also I hate being a god."

Siri is trapped in the palace, and her storyline is probably the best, because I at least got to watch her developing relationship with Susebron, which was adorable. And hey, forward momentum! But again, nothing comes of her chapters! She knows something is going on, but doesn't know what, and has no way to get information. She tries to get information, but the priests in the palace hold all the power and she never really gets around that.

It just feels like each POV character got one (1) opportunity to take an action that had an effect on the story. Vivenna went with Vasher. Siri talked to Susebron about...stuff? But nothing came of it, plot-wise. Lightsong had that one scene where he was a detective. And the rest was wheel spinning.

Think about it, if you removed all three main characters, the outcome would have been the same. Without Vivenna's meddling, Vasher's initial efforts would have been more successful and he wouldn't have needed her help to undo the damage. Without investigating, Lightsong still would have ended up in that basement to heal Susebron because he held the Lifeless codes from the very beginning. And if Siri hadn't been there, Susebron still would've been taken to that basement and healed by Lightsong. And he said from the very beginning he didn't want war with anyone, so once he got healed he would've ordered the stop of the Hallandren-Idris war regardless.

It feels like you could cut out half the book and it'd be the same. I don't think it's a coincidence that my favorite POV to read was the one that was the shortest and thus had the least bloat.

I understand that there are in-universe reasons why the characters do so little, and it doesn't have to be a bad thing, but when 100% of your main characters spend the story accomplishing almost nothing, while talking endlessly about how important it is that they accomplish things, it is extremely frustrating.

A book driven by characters instead of plot can still be good, of course, but so much focus and word count is spent on the plot and the intrigue of this book, and for nothing.

And now that I have done exactly what I am criticizing Sanderson for, i.e. reiterating the same thing over and over ad nauseum repetitively, I shall bid you farewell.

#aria rants #i was tryna take my time with it but then i realized the time getting too late (finished at 3 am bro ough.....) so i sped through a bit #was just letting it autoplay (cn voices are rlly nice to listen to) and exploring new areas but alas... i shouldve woke up earlier today #but maaaaaan in a writing perspective it's really gooood... esp the new switching pov mechanic which made everything so much better #every lil moment is important to the penacony story! everyone got so mad for sparkle's comment of ''find a mute to befriend''#only for it to later be revealed to be an Actual hint for aven (which i still think to be ratio in disguise during the sparkle encounter)#like whoaaa..... so she didn't just say that to be mean? she said a hint? whooooaaaa... truly a Masked Fool bro #also. also! THIS! is how you write a story with very intricate plans that unfolds as you go. im sorry im still a bit salty with part2 #of sumeru. like yes. i know... i Knoooow they're two different games and stories but the setup is similar in that both #situations had high stakes and intricate plans but MYGOD!!! sumeru did it so poorly... why give me the step by step #AS the plans are being enacted??? give me the step by step AT THE END or around that point. like with aven's plans unfolding #during that moment with the representation of his past and future. and it just kept unfolding after that! THATS! how its done #i really. REALLY love stories with intricate plans during high stakes moments that the audience is kept in the dark until the #big reveal. its one of my favourites that detective conan manages to do well during important arcs. i like being mindblown!#blow my mind with the characters' wits and ideals and plans! show me how it's done and tell me how it was planned after showing me #i finally have my peace from the tragedy of that very setup during part2 of sumeru from penacony. thank you shaoji.

i have such strong memories related to black sails like. it was my mom's birthday. during a weekend. think 2018/2019. we went away for the weekend to this. place. idk what its called in english but yk rent a tiny house for like a few days. whatever. i can remember what it looked like. i sat on that couch watching black sails. my sister and i had to share a room and i managed to break the bed (not permanently) i had to sleep on & because even after fixing it i didnt trust it, i slept on the floor. it was on that floor that i watched s2 of black sails. it was on that floor that i saw that fucking scene that fundamentally changed me as a person. because. listen. black sails was one of the first shows id watched with a queer story. with not one but two major plot threads revolving around queer people's relationships. i remember sitting in the car in the dark as the rest of my family was ordering fries for us and i remember my mom going "hey look gay couple!" in a restaurant. it doesnt feel real. that entire weekend is a fever dream. i thought i was just watching a pirate show. the pirates were gay. the pirates were fucking gay bro. i cried over that show. i wept at the end of it. i had to play boardgames for my mom's birthday and pretend like i wasnt going insane because the pirates were gay and i was just. ough. i was 14 or 15 and i was barely out and i was new to being queer in any capacity and it was such an experience.

Hi how would you accomodate Obito's character to match, as you said, the fake ideal Kakashi has of him in his memory at the beginning of the series (if you want their relationship to go that way, which is 1000% more interesting than what the manga gave us) ? Like, if Kakashi has a fake idea of Obito in his head, Obito must have been at least something remotely heroic in the past, no ? Also, in this configuration do you think Adult Obito should be acknowledged as 100% Creepy in the story to contrast Kakashi's memories, and how ?

i fear that i may have opened a giant can of naruto discourse worms but since i actually have opinions on this i might as well share. its not really changing obito's character in any form its just genuinely how i read this relationship because thats the way it makes the most sense to me.

obito was genuinely just some kid who had a good heart but was a little annoying and wasnt terribly punctual or collected and was more than happy to mildly buck his responsibilities and the expectations people had of him to help people out which isnt inherently bad but also easily lends itself to endangering the mission/task at hand and as a result baby kakashi thought he was annoying and stupid and a spoiled brat who doesnt know what the real world looks like. they were literally not even anywhere close to friends until like the 5 minutes before obito epicly dies by which i mean. and this is like so so so tremendously important to understanding my view of this relationship. kakashi barely knew obito at all, and he didnt know him because up until those last 5 minutes he barely even respected him as a person and therefore had absolutely no vested interest in learning. this, combined with the fact that obito was . again. just some kid who was trying his best but wasnt like outstanding is absolutely crucial because its directly because of kakashi's growing insane survivors guilt complex that his perception of obito goes from "kid with a good heart who did the right thing when i did not" -> "paragon of justice and morality and everything that i am not".

like kakashi as a guy is somebody who very consistently takes far more responsibility for bad things that happen than is deserved - if kakashi and obito had gone to save rin earlier it literally would not have made a difference, but because kakashi knows he made the wrong decision in trying not to save her at first he blames himself for obito's death nonetheless. as rin dies by his own hand (both thereby being "his fault" + violating the deathbed promise he made to the last person he got killed) and then minato kicks the bucket not too long after, kakashi's survivors guilt complex balloons into something genuinely kind of deranged. like seriously kakashi really truly does hate himself so so so much and its a bit dire. he blames solely himself for things that are not entirely or even mostly his fault and at multiple points in the final arc literally talks about how prepared he is to die and when he's saved is caught entirely off-guard and immediately starts talking about how worthless he is (GUY WHO WANTS TO DIE SO BAD ITS CONCERNING) and asking why obito bothered moving kaguya's attack and when anybody ever tries to give him credit for the positive things he did contribute he immediately moves to give it to somebody else and minimize his own impact.

with this in mind you can kind of see what happened with obito - while kakashi is a tremendously skilled ninja on his own, it was the sharigan that ultimately became the centerpoint of his abilities - the sharigan that obito gave him. with this comes the ability to attribute all the good he's done for the village/people in it to obito while bolstering his already preconceived notion that it wasnt obito who shouldve died back then but him because if it were obito he wouldve been able to do everything that kakashi has done except he also has the added bonus of being fundamentally a better person who wouldve made the right choices who wouldve been a good leader who wouldve saved rin who wouldve saved everybody who was the one out of the two of them who truly understood sakumo's will and would have always always always succeeded where kakashi has failed time and time again but because hes dead because kakashi got him killed the best he can do is try. and he cant move on he cant ever move on because this eye of obitos is always always always there and he'll never be able to forgive himself because he's failed in every way he could have and would never deserve it. by the time the main series rolls around obito really isnt a person in kakashis mind but a very prominent focal point to project his insane deranged guilt complex onto and then feel miserable about because he has serious mental issues. like its truly not about obito as the guy he actually was because kakashi barely even knew him at all, its that because so so so many of kakashi's biggest achievements and regrets in life are tied back to obito's death its just entirely inescapable and especially so for somebody as riddled with guilt and self-hatred and responsibility as kakashi.

like people like to pretend this relationship is romantic but if im being honest. that is objectively 1)stupid but also more importantly 2) BORINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG ITS SO BORING ITS SO BORINGGGGGGGGG when your other option is kakashis deranged mental scape projection bag turning out to be an actual real person who shouldnt have been put on this massive pedastal, causing kakashis entire life and meaning up to this point to come crumbling down because it turns out obito's been spiraling off the path that kakashi has been obsessing over for years except in the end this too is kakashis fault because its always kakashis fault and worse yet its not even him who convinces obito to turn around because no matter how hard kakashi tries he'll never ever ever ever be good enough he'll never be able to fix his mistakes he'll never be able to be forgiven and he'll never be able to forgive himself.

also side note while i find obito's fixation on rin to be insanely annoying and notably weird and definitely in poor taste, intentionally making it creepy is doing nobody ANY favors and i would decidedly not want that in any direction. the contrasts between what kakashi remembers and what obito has turned into have to do with selflessness and maturity and the consistent choice to do the right thing into assisting in the murder of thousands of people for an incredibly childish and selfish pipe dream - imo intentionally focusing on how its frankly a bit weird for a guy pushing 30 to still be hung up on a girl he knew when he was 12 is detracting from the main point and serves no narrative purpose and what id much rather do instead is chop the romantic beat entirely because that would do wonders for his entire character in making him at the very least less annoying.

also also the way this ask is worded is a bit weird imo like its not like obito started out being a terrible person and if he was all along then itd kind of suck and also defeat like 100% of the point. like i would definitely say throwing yourself into a pack of overwhelming enemies to save a friend falls into the heroic category, and, while him giving kakashi the eyeball is absolutely horrifying and appalling and 57 different levels of messed up, from kakashi's pov<- authors note interruption: originally i was typing this up in the tags but then it became too long i have to give my opinion on the eyeball scene. i have to. we're side tangenting here but okay like because the thing about naruto the series and kishimoto and their respective politics is theyre kind of at odds with each other and a solid 50% of the things kishimoto says in naruto i think he like doesnt actually agree with or is alternatively too scared to commit to so im not really sure how exactly we're supposed to interpret obito giving kakashi his eye. and im aware to some extent that the shippers are like omg….. sooooo romantic while throwing on the veneer of omg child soldiers…. so horrible……. <- purely for the ~angst~ factor but. ^in the whole context of this i was complaining about shippers but the same sort of sentiment still applies to glorifying this in any manner. like as an outsider looking into this fictional world i can very easily go "wow! this is horrifying! this is not heroic this is tremendously messed up and a society that has allowed this to happen needs to kind of be razed to the ground."HOWEVER. this does not mean that kakashi himself does not see this as something indescribably heroic and in fact he would have an incredibly hard time seeing it otherwise given The Mental Illness and also his entire childhood and way of life from birth. like if we're being honest im always thinking about the scene where iruka and kakashi are arguing over whether or not team 7 is prepared to take the chunin exam because iruka rightly points out that theyre very young and inexperienced with the implication that given people older than them have literally actually died in these exams they really should not be doing this and kakashi responds that he was six years younger than naruto when he became a chunin as a justification and its just so insanely illuminating to his perspective on a lot of this because its been so insanely twisted by having literally grown up on the battlefield and then after that joining anbu bc from his perspective theyre twice as old as he was with the added bonus of it being peacetime so its literally fine even though for the viewers it is decidedly not.

and like in some instances he does recognize how badly the ninja system has screwed over everybody personally (see: when sasuke fights all of them after killing danzo and kakashi notes that sasuke is absolutely a product of his environment) but in other cases hes just so completely blinded by having been intrenched in war and child soldiering from birth that its very very hard to be able to take a step back and look at it objectively (and especially for somebody like kakashi who if he genuinely acknowledged this might also have to confront the fact that if child soldiers absolutely 100000% should not exist in any situation ever several of the things he blames himself most for in his past would really not be much of his fault as the adults who put him in those situations in the first place. which he would rather kill himself than do). also real quick id like to take a moment to share this parallel because it SERIOUSLY makes me deranged IM OBSESSED WITH ITTTTTTTT

also, finished my new vegas campaign. Leigh Has Achieved Her Mission or at least the closest approximation of it that the game let me achieve, which of course is the independent ending with a full securitron army and the support of the followers of the apocalypse. the only thing is i Fackin Forgor to deal with the fiends so they caused some problems but well the trouble they caused was to the ncr so i kinda dgaf. also i was surprised some khans showed up to help me at hoover dam! i actually felt kinda bad about it like no no... ive got this... you guys have been thru enough... you shouldnt have to protect the ncr from Anyone even the legion... please oomfies stay safe....

anyway. i kind of dont understand what happened with the brotherhood of steel, i think i had confused the game badly. i became besties with them rather early on, i even convinced mcnamara to let me join them (which like. youd think thatd have some curious implications but again, Unfinished Game) but i never talked them into making a truce with the ncr or anything. but for some reason i told mr house i did? like right before i decided i would Not be Trying The Mr House Route after all, a decision i made specifically over his insistence that i eliminate the brotherhood actually. and then yes man also acted like the bos were gonna help the ncr at hoover dam. and mcnamara kept saying he couldnt believe he would be helping the ncr even though again the subject had not once been breached. i was like ok. and then they did not in fact help the ncr. they didnt show up. wtf was that about. lies and treachery. after all i did for you. after i fixed your air conditioning. oh im sorry, was it the robots. did you not like the robots? scared of them?

and not only that, the boomers also didnt show up even though they were supposed to. motherfucker... what did i get you bastards that airplane for... you people were so annoying and unkind and i still helped you. because i thought i could count on you. for everything i did for you. loyal i hope your solar arrays break immediately. that guy who works with loyal idr your name i hope your gf breaks up with you and then you explode. i hope all of you explode. i shouldve known. i shouldve known better.

like thats so funny. of all the factions that i had recruited the ones that actually showed up to help were 1. The Elderly Ex-Soldiers Of The Horrid American Regime 2. the great khans, Unexpected And Unannounced. oh well. we still mowed through those bastards. thats right. thats right. all you centurions and other creeps, you stood no chonce. no chonce against this hungry hungry woman. she ate caesar, shes gonna eat all of you. thats how you deal with enemies and opponents and adversaries.

as for legate lanius i fully buy into the Legate Lanius Isnt Real theory. i mean yes ostensibly theres a guy, whose name Allegedly is lanius, and hes a legate. but hes just a propaganda figure. legate lanius The Cruel Merciless Force Of Destiny Itself, The Devil, Unpredictable, Cares For Naught But Victory, with all those crazy stories of how he became part of the legion. well thats not real. hes just a tall guy in a scary mask and he doesnt really wanna be here. like the fact that you can just talk him into retreating. like hey man this campaign has already cost you your leader and youre gonna keep having a bad time around these parts. take that taste the pain. and hes just like Yeah ok Theres wisdom in what you say Youre a worthy opponent indeed. Goo Bye Bye. and sprints away. ok. scariest guy east of the colorado river you guys. had to stay holed up in the little baby camp away from any fighting until the last big battle and even then he didnt leave the aforementioned little baby camp. he wasnt leading anything or anyone. he was in his tent scared and fingering himself. scram.

felt kinda bad throwing general oliver off the dam. it was an impulsive decision and i was like man i shouldnt have done that. i barely knew the guy. kind of a gruesome way to go. sure he pissed me off and was overall a bad person but i shouldnt be doing shit like that. doesnt inspire others' confidence in my Collected Trustworthy Nature. i think.

im really glad about the good endings i got for all my companions. they just all got really chill ending slides. theyre all just kinda hanging around the mojave helping people and being cool. arcade status: chillinnnng 👍 boone status: chillinnnng 👍 cass status: chillinnnng 👍 lily status: chillinnnng 👍 raul status: ghost cowboy. veronica status: chillinnnng 👍

one final character analysis of silver spoon

ah, we’ve reached the end. 6 months ago, i posted the first, 5 months ago the second, and i think i finally want to delve into his final bits of character development in the finale. as always, ignore how jumbled my thoughts are, i write as it comes to me.

i made a lot of predictions for the finale, but unfortunately none of it came true. i expected candle to flat out die after iii18. i saw the reference to s1 and mephone being unable to save bow because he died when she did as foreshadowing for smth similar happening to candle, since mephone was debilitated. i also backed up my theory with the idea that candle activating her inner flame left her outer flame very vulnerable, since it seems to grow brighter when she uses her power. tldr, like her inner flame was on the outside. strangely, silver straight up murdering candle wasn’t brought up AT ALL. she was recovered offscreen. such an odd decision by the writers.

silver’s inner flame is eluded to in iii16 and fully realized in 17-18. as i mentioned in my earlier posts, the inner flame is an allegory for the soul. like candle, somebody who is very in touch with themselves and their surroundings can access their inner flame and use it for some kind of power boost + flight and telekinesis. not sure if that’s all it can do, but that’s everything we’ve seen candle or silver do with it. (candle’s ability to see the future and predict a teammate’s betrayal might also be related to the inner flame, but i’m not sure) as silver, with candle’s help, learns about himself and becomes more in tune with what he wants he unlocks this power. when he shows this power off at the final vote to gain support, candle is reasonably upset. “[the inner flame] isn’t some party trick to be strewn about to boost your own disgustly self-inflated ego.”

silver rejects cabby’s attempt to comfort him right after this and says he doesn’t need her vote if he can gain enough votes from the others. he’s regressed, and candle sees that. she saw it in him the moment he used his power to make himself look better in front of the voters. even though silver put on a brave face, we know he cares about candle more than himself. when he attacks her, he has a few lines about how everything he’d done was because he trusted she believed in him. another voice whispers over everything he says that only gets louder right before he kills her. his own arrogance leads to his downfall again. he finally felt like he’d gotten control—which he says himself—after a game of either being constantly undermined or doing anything candle says to please her, because he doesn’t trust himself.

he realizes that despite how much he has grown, he still has a long road ahead of him. his blindness to that leads to him hurting the people he holds dearest. he learns from his mistakes and doesn’t try to use the inner flame again, but a lot of the damage is done. candle is dead, and thats how it should’ve stayed, in my opinion. she’s used as a plot device to push silver’s story arc most of the time, so permanently getting rid of her forces silver to learn to grow and change on his own, like when she was eliminated. on the topic of that, i also think springy shouldve died for good too.

a bit shorter than my other analysis posts, but i did most of the heavy lifting in those last ones. them not showing silver and candle in the library was an absolute crime against nature. i still think blueberry getting immediately eliminated was a terrible writing decision. the show is quite flawed, but the characterization and community keeps me sticking around. cant wait to see whats next on inanimate insanity. hopefully taco gets her redemption arc or whatever they plan on doing, theyve got a lot to wrap up in 4 or so episodes.
