but also. i took like a year ish hiatus from this fandom before tlovm pulled me back in, and in that time i, among other things, finished my theatre degree

and god does this hit different when you're a week out from the professional opening of an original musical you wrote with like 7 other people, and are also not just a performer in but the music director of

#my life for the last week has literally been rehearsal/choreo practice/typing up sheet music/watching cr/sleep that's it #and like it's great and i love it #but also we've hit the crunch time of every creative project where you have to just start murdering your babies #which is also why im never gonna be mad at the cr cast for places where the show didn't live up to the campaign #because nothing is ever finished to its ideal form #and i was leading band rehearsal last night just watching as parts of this show i poured my soul into get cut for time #and it's gotta happen! but god that is just The Mood right now #though on a lighter note just all the talk of going back on this or that or letting the creative people you hire do their jobs #also something i've been really enjoying the past few months #our live band is awesome and it's great seeing what they do to my songs #but yeah im just here watching and every aspect of this fucking show is flashing before my eyes #hey remember three years ago when the extent of my ability was making up that recreation of yasha playing her harp? #yeah i write for musical theatre now #how the turntables and all that

fun thing about same scent's choreography is how the beginning mirrors the end. hwanwoong acts like the snake trapping seoho while the rest of oneus forms a tree. seoho covers his eyes then leans on hwanwoong. towards the end, they go back to formation and seoho "picks the fruit" from hwanwoong (in the mv, there is a close up of seoho bringing his hand to his mouth first after he touches hwanwoong) then everyone lets their hands fall as if the tree "withers"

in the media showcase, we pause in this formation to see the white snake in the background rising up, because "temptation" won. man I love the little details in the choreo for this

I still have my opinion about the song but the more I watch the choreography, the more like it. Also I think Dami, Siyeon and Gahyeon really own that swag vibe with their moves and attitudes.

also update on the sound of magic. not all of the musical numbers are even close to as good as the opening number. it sucks a little bit but the rest of it makes up for that i think

#it kinda feels like. they gave up halfway thru on the music and choreo and stuff #but also the first song was just???? so spectacular that its hard to keep that quality consistent probably #like it set the standards HIGH #but its such a faithful adaptation and the casting is perfect #and everything overall is genuinely amazing so. im really not complaining #i am very happy and enjoying it GREATLY #i just. as a musical theatre stan first and foremost. wish all of the music and dancing etc was as perfect as the opening is #i also really liked il deung’s path number but i dont think it portrayed what that scene is about as well as it couldve #like u dont see any of the intense pressure his parents are putting on him to be first in his class #so it makes a few things feel less plausible #and the musical number. while really good. has less impact overall #cause the message kinda loses the nuances of his situation #which is understandable since the show is so hard focused on ah-yi #but also i think they couldve given more screentime to il deung and explaining his family and stuff #cause it is important it makes a lot of the story more understandable when u see that side of it #it just feels so watered down idkidk #REGARDLESS i am enjoying the adaptation greatly and i am more than thrilled by the mere FACT that its a musical so #again overall its great and i love it
