Terrible news! I've found the raws for the IBO manga volumes and I downloaded the last volume! the pics are a little pixelated but beggars can't be choosers you know? what's important is the fact that manga artist Kazuma Isobe chose violence and modified Orga's death scene so that he dies in Kudelia's arms
but wait! that's not all! there's also pages after they've brought Orga's body inside, and you get to see that Ride has the gun now
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(everyone else's death in this last volume plays out the same, from Shino's to Mika's)

Amber's Art Resource Compilation (The Return!)
Once upon a time, I used to regularly share link collections of helpful art resources here that I would stumble across on my various feeds and timelines, both to keep track of them for myself for later reference, and to share them with others who also might find these resources useful or interesting. And considering how many websites most folks are spread across nowadays? It seems like as good a time as any for me to start doing this again! Feel free to share and reblog to whoever you think will benefit!
(I would recommend that if there's any links that you find particularly helpful, perhaps save the image or video to your computer for safekeeping. I have no idea how long Twitter links will work because of obvious site shenanigans, even with Nitter as a workaround...)

World of Thedas Character Art Colour Pallets: Part 1 Companions and Others
This is a long post, but thought it would be handy to have basic colour pallets from the World of Thedas Volume 2. These are split into 2 posts because picture limit. I also specifically chose the images with grey backgrounds and not the tarot cards, just for easier grouping.
Some notes for each game and the companions and in general:
Most of these are concept art, except for the Origins characters. So they might no longer represent the finalized - or level of detail variation in colour - compared to their final game models. I do want to do their character model flat colours, but that is a later thing.
Origins:
Aside from Nathaniel and Anders, none of the Awakening companions have character art.
Anders is put in the DA2 section, as that is the first game he would be universally encountered.
Leliana does not have any character art in the two styles with this background. She only is shown in tarot art in the Inquisition section.
Shale is also not featured in this style and doesn't have any character art.
Duncan was included here because I had space, and he was the only remaining character for Origins not included.
Dragon Age 2:
Varric is put here because it is his first game appearance where anyone would meet him.
Varrics eyes are blue in this art, but in game from what I can tell they are brown from what I can tell.
Bethany and Carver seem to be different variations of potential preset variations.
The Arishok, Meredith, and Orisino were included to round out the image count. They were included over Tallis and Duke Prosper because they were main game.
Inquisition:
Cullen and Josephine were added because I had space, and they fit neatly where others didn't.
Sera and The Iron Bull do not have art nor tarot card art in the book.
Sera doesn't really have a section like the rest of the companions, her background is displayed in a report to Leliana with Sera interjecting with her own notes on it. Which, I think, is why she is lacking art in the way compared to the others.
The Iron Bull doesn't have art in this style but is given a full piece many are familiar with; him standing in front of rows of red flags and the sun with his weapon over his shoulder.
Dagna was included here instead of Origins because this is the first game where she is a major player... Also, she would have been the odd one out in the Part 2 post.
Most importantly, if you want to download this for your own use, got a handy google drive folder with all the images for your needs.

The Journey of The Tarot Haiku
I: The Magician - Resources
I used a variety of tools and resources in creating the book, so I thought I would share the most important ones.
At one point I purchased Scrivener because I heard good things about it, and initially I was planning to use it to create the book, only to discover that it didn't support the type of layout I wanted to design. I was stubborn, however, and decided to use it anyway because the way you can create folders and pages in it really appealed to the creature in me that wanted to squirrel away the poems like nuts for the winter. I also used it to manually keep track of my progress, and I still love opening it to go through all the folders.
To make sure the syllable count was accurate, I used this Syllable Counter to double check as I was typing down the poems. I tried others, but some of them were inconsistent, and this one was really easy to use!
I used to draw extensively and did digital art, and in the course of looking for software, I purchased Clip Studio Paint, which can be used for digital art as well as designing printable volumes like comics and zines. I was first and foremost going to concentrate on the Tarot cards in my poetry project, but eventually decided to supplement them with more poems explaining the fundamentals of reading and understanding the Tarot, so the next step was to create some digital illustrations to accompany those. I ended up learning about vector art because I wanted to create crisp images that could be resized if needed, and then went on to design the original manuscript using CSP. For the longest time I thought I would be using that for publication, but it did not have a working Table of Contents and I worried that any reformatting might take it apart, so I didn't use the manuscript, just the digital illustrations I made.
The Rider-Waite Tarot Deck is a registered trademark of U.S. Games Systems, Inc., but the illustrations are technically public domain, so you can use them for different projects and products. Because I wanted to feature the cards in my book but I only had access to a Hungarian language version of the deck (and so my scans would have shown Hungarian text), I purchased a set of high quality scans of the original Rider-Waite Tarot from ElementalEmpress on Etsy. I first used these in my project proposal and later in the manuscript.
In some of my posts, you might have noticed a Tower mandala watermark. I commissioned the design from Mixtichin - check out their Square Space or their Ko-fi if you want cool mandala designs! (The holofoil effect was my doing.)
I ultimately decided to self-publish by signing up to Kindle Direct Publishing, and there I downloaded Kindle Create in order to prepare my manuscript for publishing. This was the point where I realized that my original manuscript created in CSP might not survive a reformatting and the non-functional Table of Contents would be irritating, so I fired up Microsoft Word and recreated the entire manuscript from scratch. Thankfully I figured out how to do upside down text in it, which is how the ebook retains the original ergodic layout. I had to convert it to PDF using the built-in conversion function because Kindle Create is very fickle and will not sometimes recognize completely legitimate DOCX files, but that turned out to be for the best because I had an image heavy layout and could thus use the Print Replica option. Kindle Create is kind of vital for KDP projects because it will take care of things like borders, trim, bleed, etc. and when I got the hang of it, submitting the paperback and hardcover became much easier.
Last but not least, I used this website to convert PNG to PDF because KDP asked for the cover to be submitted as a PDF, but whenever I tried to open the PNG and use the convert to PDF option in the menu, it came out the wrong size. Once I converted it using the above linked site, however, the size was perfect and I could proceed with publication!
This is all I could think of for this post - see you next time!

After reading a couple nonfiction books from the library (one being the "clean living" book seen in the first pic), I decided to read some of the mangas downloaded to my Kindle.
The first one I read was Magilumiere: Magical Girls Inc, which I already posted about. As for the others in the first pic, I actually finished The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash first after Magilumiere, but since I finished it and My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked on the same day, Goodreads listed them weird. Then yesterday I started the manga in the second pic, My [Repair] Skill Became a Versatile Cheat, So I Think I'll Open a Weapons Shop.
The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash is one of those "reincarnated with a past life's memories in a fantasy world" kind of fantasy stories, which I think is an Isekai subgenre?? Usually it's used with "reincarnated as a villainess" stories, though, and this doesn't seem to be that kind of story (unlike other similar stories, we're not told where the main character, Ivy, came from or how she got reincarnated into this world at the beginning - only that she has memories of a past life...so that already is different). Anyway, in this story Ivy gets ostracized when she's identified as a "starless," basically someone who has magic but at a zero-star level, which makes her magic so weak she's basically useless. Even her own family rejects her, and later the kind fortune-teller who helped her learn how to survive in the forest dies because the village chief heard she associated with a "starless" and refused to provide her with the healing potion she needed. After this, she takes off, using the survival skills and basic magic bags the fortune teller provided her with to get by. Having no money at first, she's forced to salvage through town dumps for resources, or eat whatever animals she can capture with traps (she does have a monster taming ability, as the title suggests, but hers is so weak she can only tame super weak monsters). She eventually manages to make some money from selling field mice she captured, and even snakes in one chapter (those she sells to the apothecary). A few chapters in, she encounters a super weak slime that even she, with her weak power, can tame. After naming her Sora, they set off together, and Sora ends up being more useful than Ivy expected, since it can absorb both organic and inorganic matter (most slimes in this world can only do one or the other). It may even be able to heal, if the ending of the volume is any indication. (According to the bonus short story, though, Sora is not very good with directions lol).
My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked is, as you might guess from the title, a take on the classic Cinderella story. Except in this case the Cinderella character, Miya, is the illegitimate child of a rich man, and that man's wife and daughters (the titular stepmother and stepsisters) take her in when her mother dies. But while she expects them to be really mean, they're actually really nice! But the mother is still stern and intimidating, and the daughters are spoiled and always trying to one-up each other, so their kindness kind of comes across in a comedic tsundere sort of way. Miya constantly worries that she's offended them, only for them to respond completely positively, no matter what happens. It is funny, but at the same time I feel like such a gag might get old after a while. Not sure though.
As for the last one, My [Repair] Skill Became a Versatile Cheat, So I Think I'll Open a Weapons Shop, like I said, I just started reading it. It's a fantasy about dungeon exploration, much like the Delicious in Dungeon series I've been watching on Netflix recently. But this one obviously has a different story. The main character, Luke, is a seasoned adventurer with 15 years of experience under his belt, but since his only skill is [Repair], a skill which has next to no usage in combat, he's still an E-rank adventurer (the lowest rank that is allowed to do dungeon raids). He finally got recruited by a powerful hero to join his dungeon raiding party, only to be treated as their pack mule and ultimately betrayed by the hero over a relatively minor issue (that doesn't even seem to be his fault). Left by his former party mates in the dungeon to die, he resolves to at least find a way out, even if all he has is his [Repair] skill and an old sword the hero gave him out of pity. Fortunately for him, he's able to make his [Repair] skill evolve seemingly subconsciously (hence the "cheat" part of the title, I guess), which, combined with finding a shortcut by punching a hole in a rock wall with his sword (something even the hero in his party couldn't do), allows him to finally escape after 2 weeks. He then helps save a samurai girl named Sakura who is cornered by a dragon by lending her his sword, and then using his [Repair] skill to heal her (he's not sure he can at first, since the skill doesn't usually work on living things, so when he succeeds he's as surprised as anyone - also doing so DOES make him pass out for half a day, so he's not crazy OP, like heroes in these stories often are). After making it to the settlement where Sakura and her friend Sylvia (daughter of the local innkeeper) are living, he decides to take a break from adventuring (at his level, he can't re-enter the dungeon he came from by himself anyway, as adventurers can only enter dungeons that are at their level or below, unless they're in a party with a leader of the right level, which Luke was before) and use his [Repair] skill to open a weapons shop, since the town doesn't have one currently (probably because the forest where Luke found Sakura and Sylvia just recently got classified as a dungeon). And, as far as I've read, this seems to go well (the fact that he helped kill a dragon certainly helps bring in customers). He does get into a bit of trouble with some local knights, though, because the members of his former party have gone missing, and since he got out alone, he's a prime suspect behind their disappearance. Also, he harvested mithril from the wall he broke, which only certain people are allowed to harvest (though to be fair he didn't know it was mithril, so he gets a pass there, though the knights still make him replicate how he broke the wall as proof of his story). And that's about where I'm at in the story.
Definitely enjoying my reads so far!

Thoughts on KKP rankings
There's no statistics posted for this anywhere, but here's some thoughts:
Publishing a series on kakaopage is VERY competitive. Studios will compete with each other to get their series promoted, since more promotion = views, and money. Each month there's 10+ series being published, with at least 5 in the rofan genre.
So rankings and other metrics are key. Stories like Matriarch and Solo Leveling are immensely popular, with 1+ Billion views. So they're promoted the most, and on every webpage.
Here's a rough guideline for a series, OVERALL, at any point:
Any series with greater than 50 million views = MASSIVELY POPULAR = A ton of promotion
30 million views = POPULAR = more promotion
20 million = Very good
< 10 million = Very bad
<5 million = Very very bad, might as well be cancelled. D:
Now, let's divide these guidelines to be split up by Season:
Season 1 (Roughly Ep 1-40): If it finishes with <5 million views, very bad, at risk for cancellation. If it finishes with >10 million views, it's projected to be a hit, will be promoted more
Season 2 (Roughly Ch 41-80): If it finishes with < 10 million views, very bad, at risk for cancellation. if it finishes with > 20 million views, it's projected to be a hit, will be promoted more
Season 3 (Roughly Ch 81-120): if it's reached a season 3, unlikely to be cancelled.
Season 4 (Roughly Ch 121-160+): Unlikely to be cancelled at this point.
I believe objectively, YM is a solid moderately popular series. At ~100 chapters, finishing up Season 3 soon, it has 20+ million views/downloads. That's pretty good. Could be better though ^^
In terms of rankings i've been stalking the rankings for a few weeks and I've noticed:
A new chapter is published at 10pm Friday nights.
In the Overall category (ALL KKP series), it spends the first day on the rankings at about top 60. By the second day, it's still about top 120, By the third day, it's top 200. t's usually gone from the top 300 overall rankings by Monday. These rankings are updated hourly.
In the Rofan category, it opens to be about top 20, then about top 50 a day later, then top 100ish, and is usually off the top 300 by Wed.
The reassuring thing is, is at least YM ranks for a good 4-5 days after a new chapter is published; the popular series are forever on there, while the newer, unpopular ones drop off really quickly.
Come on DAON, YM is good... keep it going...
Another reassuring thing is every few months KKP does a small promotion for YM; whether it's the 3-damu event (every 3 hrs a free chapter, this ran for a few months), or it's promoted on the main KKP twitter. I have yet to see. Interestingly, the decision to promote a series is often in the hands of the studios + KKP; the author/manhwa artists aren't aware of it. It's always super nice to be promoted though. (From the artist of the Saint adopted by the duke's twitter)
Lastly, it's super reassuring that out of all the series that DAON Entertainment publishes, YM is popular enough to receive a print copy, and 6 volumes have been published. It would be great to have more bonuses and merchandise, but I'll take what we can get.

What do you think of Bridgerton books in general? Most people agree that it's very bad, but I think it's ok ? For me, the most problematic books are volume 1, 3 and 4, the rest honestly goes very well and its rather funny ? (Although every time the author talks about the tearing hymen, or one of the guys being tough as a rock I want to roll my eyes. Although I think she's gotten better over time as books) My favorite is book 6. My second favorite is book 2, although the scene where Anthony talks about consummating the marriage as his right and Kate mentally vindicating him makes me uneasy. I had no idea that Philippe is so hated ?! It's a lamb in front of Benedict and Colin ?! Honestly, volume 4 gave me bad vibes about Colin and his super violent impulses that nobody EVER talks to him about ?! Wtf ?! Then Benedict and his behavior bordering on harassment... Although the whole final scene in prison with mom Violet was great. As for the rape that Daphne committed on Simon... I think we all want to tear our hair out over this. But at least (will we say) to change it's the girl who is problematic.
I'm afraid that To Sir Phillip With Love is the only one I am touching for now, nonny. But I might download Anthony's and Francesca's books later. Daphne's book... Nah. Honestly, even if it didn't have the rape there, I just don't vibe with the fake dating plot.
In some things I have to be fair with the author: some of the things that make us uncomfortable might just be intentional. After all, we are talking about historical fiction, not contemporary. And I am a firm believer that sanitising every uncomfortable aspect of a historical period..., or in the other extreme, making them worse to the point of ridiculousness to make our modern time look better and perfect, is just bad writing. Plain and simple. There has to be balance.
Yeah, I don't know why Phillip gets this much hate, but I saw posts and shorts on Youtube acting as if Eloise had married the devil or some shit. There is that situation during his marriage with Marina according to some spoilers I picked, but considering he feels awful about it, it was probably not done with any maliciousness. Which is more than we got from Daphne. I'm only a few chapters in but yeah, compared with the other guys, he is a puppy. I guess he is hated because the stupid show erased Eloise's more-period appropriate personality and transformed her into yet another girlboss caricature that hates marriage and children. And also because the show hyped Marina and she became Shonda's Creator's Pet.
And for the language that Julia Quinn uses in her writing..., I'm afraid that's just normal for the genre, nonny. Lol, believe me that I have read a lot worse. When I was a kid I always went around picking the raunchiest books that I could find and just asked my innocent dad to buy them. Some sex scenes in books were really... something. Look up Robin Schone, she had some language that you either like or despise.

Website Traffic vs. Conversions: Stop Obsessing Over Traffic and Focus on What Matters
Tumblr media
You want more traffic to your website. I get it. More traffic sounds great on the surface. But here's the truth: traffic isn't your most important metric. Conversions are. And what's a conversion? It's when someone takes a desired action on your website. This could be signing up for your newsletter, filling out a contact form, or purchasing a product. Conversions represent real business value, while traffic on its own doesn't tell you much. So if you're focused solely on driving more traffic to your site without tracking conversions, you're missing out on crucial data. You might be attracting thousands of visitors, but if few convert, all that traffic is wasted. Instead of chasing traffic for the sake of traffic, shift your focus to improving your conversion rate optimization (CRO). This people-first approach will grow your business and help you turn website visitors into customers. The Problem With Obsessing Over Traffic It's easy to get distracted by big traffic numbers. 10,000 visitors sounds fantastic, right? But what if only 10 people signed up for your mailing list? That's a conversion rate of just 0.1%. Driving traffic is important. But raw traffic metrics alone don't tell you if those visits are quality. Targeted traffic that converts is far more valuable than a tidal wave of random visitors. Here are some of the biggest problems with over-prioritizing traffic volume: - Missed opportunities: Lots of traffic but few conversions represents lost chances to capture leads and sales. All those non-converting visits could have been customers. - No optimization: If you're not tracking conversions, you have no way to tell which pages perform best. This makes optimization nearly impossible. - Wasted marketing spend: Driving more low-quality traffic can devour your advertising budget. The costs add up without any payoff. - Frustration: Few things are more demoralizing than traffic that doesn't convert. You'll feel like your hard work was for nothing. The data shows that high conversion rate sites consistently outperform sites that simply have lots of traffic. Driving traffic is just step one. Converting that traffic into ROI is what matters. What Are Conversions? Put simply, a conversion is any desired action a visitor takes on your site. Here are some of the most common website conversions: - Email sign-ups: Joining your mailing list via a signup form. This allows you to market to them later. - Contact form submissions: When a visitor fills out a "Contact Us" form to reach out or request information. This generates a sales lead. - Purchases: The ultimate conversion - when someone buys your product or service. - Content downloads: Visitors can download gated content like whitepapers, ebooks, or templates in exchange for an email address. - Scheduling a call/demo: Some sites allow users to book calls or demos right from the website. Tracking these conversions gives you crucial business insights. You'll see which pages encourage conversions, find sales bottlenecks, and identify traffic quality issues. In other words, honing in on conversions keeps you focused on business growth rather than vanity metrics like traffic. Traffic Volume Still Matters (To a Point) Now you may be thinking: who cares about conversions if I don't have any traffic in the first place? It's true - some baseline of traffic is important. A completely dead site won't convert anyone. But don't fall into the traffic volume trap. The quality and intent of your traffic matters far more than the quantity. For example, 1,000 targeted visitors who are interested in your niche are far more likely to convert than 10,000 random people. Conversion optimization begins with driving the right traffic. Here are two strategies for getting traffic that converts: - Target "micro-moment" searches: When someone searches "how to bake bread" or "best yoga mats," they have an immediate need your content can address. Create content optimized for those micromoments. - Go after buyers, not tire kickers: Instead of broad phrases, target specific keywords like "buy coffee online" that indicate purchase intent. Traffic sources like PPC ads can help. Remember, chasing raw traffic volume alone is an uphill battle. Start by focusing on the right kinds of visitors. Why You Must Track Website Conversions If you're not tracking conversions, you're flying blind. Without conversion data, you have no idea how well your site is actually performing. Conversion tracking provides incredibly valuable insights like: - Which web pages encourage conversions - Where visitors are dropping off - Your best traffic sources - Conversion bottlenecks and UX issues Armed with this data, you can optimize every aspect of your website for higher conversion rates. But without tracking, you can't measure progress or see what's working. As the saying goes: if you don't track conversions, you can't improve conversions. Luckily, implementing basic conversion tracking is easy and free. Google Analytics is a powerful, free tool that lets you track conversions from email signups, contact forms, purchases, and more with just a few clicks. There's no excuse not to start tracking website conversions today. Once you do, you'll unlock a goldmine of data to help grow your business. How to Improve Your Website's Conversion Rate Once you're tracking conversions, you can start optimizing your site for higher conversion performance. Here are some best practices to get started: - Optimize landing pages: Your landing pages should speak directly to visitor intent and move them to convert. Remove distractions and make calls to action clear. - Streamline forms: Long, complex forms hurt conversions. Shorten forms to just essential fields. Reduce friction wherever possible. - Improve page speed: Sites with slow load times have high bounce rates. Speed up your pages to keep visitors engaged. - Enhance mobile experience: Over half of traffic is from mobile devices. Ensure your site is mobile-friendly and easy to use on the go. - Re-engage traffic: Use email sequences, retargeting ads, and social media to bring back non-converters. Give them an extra nudge. These conversion rate optimization (CRO) tactics make it easier for your traffic to convert. Paired with messaging that speaks to customer micro-moments, you'll see higher ROI from all aspects of your marketing. Advanced Conversion Rate Optimization Techniques Once you have conversion tracking set up, you can begin leveraging more advanced optimization techniques like A/B testing and heat mapping. A/B testing allows you to test different versions of page elements like headlines, calls to action, and more. By testing multiple variants against each other, you can determine which options increase conversions. Many tools like Optimizely and VWO simplify the A/B testing process. Heat mapping provides visual insight into how visitors interact with your pages. You can see exactly where they click, scroll, and hover their cursor. This reveals opportunities to improve page layouts and remove friction. Popular heat mapping tools include Hotjar, Crazy Egg, and Inspectlet. The Revenue Impact Numerous studies reveal how significantly conversion rate optimization lifts revenue: - A B2B SaaS company increased trial signups by 302% with CRO. Link to case study. - An ecommerce retailer saw conversions rise 258% and revenue grow by $224 million annually. Link to data. - CRO often delivers returns of 200% to 500% on time invested based on optimization. Link to research. The data shows that improving conversion performance leads to substantial gains. For instance, heat mapping helped FXGlobe's landing page conversion rates surge by 89.3%, generating over $380,000 in additional annual revenue . The return on CRO can be dramatic. Landing Page & Form Best Practices When designing landing pages that convert: - Ensure critical elements are "above the fold" - visible without scrolling down - Use contrasting buttons/CTAs that attract the eye - Align page layout with F-Pattern scanning To optimize forms: - Only include essential fields - Use smart default values - Add micro-interactions after each field: These techniques make it easy for visitors to find value, stay engaged, and convert. Traffic and Conversions Work Together Here's the key insight: traffic and conversions are a team. Traffic brings visitors to your site. Conversions turn them into leads and customers. You need both. But ultimately, conversions represent the business value you're getting from your marketing efforts. Don't make the common mistake of obsessing over traffic alone. Shift your focus to tracking and improving conversions. You'll immediately unlock crucial data to help your business thrive. The next time you look at your website analytics, ignore the traffic number. Check your key conversion metrics like email signups, contact form submissions, and purchases. Are you tracking conversions yet? If not, now is the time to start. Complementary reaad: Website Traffic vs. Conversion: What is More Important? Read the full article

It’s a sunny morning in mid-May 2008 and I’m seated criss-cross applesauce under a willow tree by the lagoon in the Public Garden. After reading a massive article on a band I’ve meant to check out forever, I downloaded the least expensive, best-reviewed album off of eMusic and have skipped off to the most beautiful part of Boston to listen to it for the first time. Twinkly washes of synths and tart, sinister vocals beam out of my earbuds like hard-earned sunshine after a crusty New England winter, and I uncritically let it in. I don’t know yet that my life will go sideways in a little over a year. All I have now is this music, the sunshine, and the swan boats doing lazy figure eights in the lagoon in front of me.
It’s a balmy afternoon in August, 2009, and I have prevented myself from BURNING MY ENTIRE LIFE DOWN by going back to school and getting help for my shaky mental health. My doctor tells me in a flat, sober voice that I have generalized anxiety disorder, a diagnosis I accept with neither shock nor surprise. On my walk home I throw my iPod on shuffle. A cymbal played backwards and slinky bassline insinuate themselves from my headphones, but the prescient hilarity of this selection takes three minutes and three seconds to sink in. As Russell croons “with my other voice I will DESTROOOOOOY this room,” I fall into peals of laughter, stopping in front of an astroturf-lined driveway that houses a butter-colored vintage Mercedes to get my bearings. If my anxiety had a voice, it would be this: a sleek falsetto over a disarmingly plush synth bed, speaking evenly as it overrides all my better instincts.
It’s an overcast weekday evening in mid-July and I’m preparing a comfort meal after receiving some disappointing news about my next project. Seeing Sparks on their most recent tour has been a balm, and I’ve idly thrown on No. 1 in Heaven—known to their fans as their disco album and to me as the point of entry into their massive catalog—as I fry up some beans in tomato sauce. When the opening strains of “My Other Voice” waft into the kitchen, I idly think to myself “Cliff Edwards would have killed with this.” A few minutes earlier, a similar thought about “Beat the Clock” and George Formby crossed my mind, and I have to slow down and realize the idea that’s cooking in my brain: a reinvisioning of an album by a forward-thinking band that sounds futuristic even now, 40-some odd years after its release. A week later, a promoter I wanted to work with contacts me about playing a Halloween show, and without thinking twice I tell him I’m going to play Sparks.
By now you know the drill. Learning Formby style is too challenging for me to make this a one-and-done gig, all my friends have moved to Maine and can’t attend the show, and anyway, I want to learn to produce. Most of the technical problems I’ve experienced at the lab have been resolved, and I’m able to record the ukulele and vocal parts for “My Other Voice” after my shifts at the BPL. I go through Lil Rev’s book of intros, outros, and turnarounds and pull three from the first golden age of the ukulele with an ear towards making the song sound like a long-forgotten 78. The sessions go by quickly with no ugly crying, and at the start of November I repair to the JP branch of the BPL to mix the song.
I am currently halfway through the mixing process. Amidst some condescending responses, a question on AskMe introduced me to a mentor of sorts who walked me through the mixing process with a series of emails and a shared document. Getting the volumes and reverb on the tracks has been relatively easy, and after a first session I opt to put off the more stressful aspects of mixing, like EQ and compression, to another session.
Sadly, that might be delayed for another week or so. GarageBand keeps crashing when I try to compress the tracks, and someone from the main branch of the BPL has to do a system update. Fingers crossed that I will get this part of the mix done by the end of the week. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to finishing one part of LDV by Thursday…

Ramayana full length PDF Ebook
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ramayana The Ramayana is an ancient Hindu text about Rama, an incarnation of Vishnu. It tells the story of the righteous prince Rama and his rescue of his wife Sita after her abduction by the demon king Ravana. I am sorry, we do not have this in Hindi or Kannada. They might be available at archive.org. This version of Ramayana is retold in English by C. Rajagopalachari and edited by Jay Mazo, American Gita Society. From the book: "You cannot count on the physical proximity of someone you love all the time. A seed that sprouts at the foot of its parent tree remains stunted until it is transplanted. Rama will be in my care, and he will be quite well. But ultimately, he will leave me, too. When the time comes, every human has to depart to seek his fulfilment in his way." Download the free ebook Ramayana here:

Ramayana You can buy the print version here: link. For the long word-by-word translation of Ramayana in four volumes, please see this post: The complete Ramayana in English.
Summary of The Ramayana
The Ramayana is one of the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the other being the Mahabharata. Here's a summary with its main highlights: - Authorship and Origin: Attributed to the sage Valmiki, the Ramayana is believed to have been written between the 4th and 2nd centuries BCE. - Main Characters: - Rama: The prince of Ayodhya and the seventh avatar of Vishnu. - Sita: Rama's wife and the incarnation of the goddess Lakshmi. - Lakshmana: Rama's loyal brother. - Hanuman: The devoted monkey god and a staunch ally of Rama. - Ravana: The ten-headed demon king of Lanka who abducts Sita. - Plot: - Exile: Rama is exiled from Ayodhya for 14 years due to palace intrigue. Sita and Lakshmana choose to join him in the forest. - Abduction of Sita: Ravana deceives and kidnaps Sita, taking her to his kingdom in Lanka. - Search for Sita: Rama and Lakshmana search for Sita, forming alliances along the way, most notably with the monkey king Sugriva and Hanuman. - Bridge to Lanka: With the help of the monkey army, a bridge (Rama Setu) is built across the sea to Lanka. - Battle of Lanka: A great battle ensues between Rama's forces and Ravana's army. Rama eventually kills Ravana and rescues Sita. - Return to Ayodhya: After the battle, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana return to Ayodhya, where Rama is crowned king. - Sita's Trial: Due to rumours about her purity, Sita undergoes a trial by fire to prove her innocence. She emerges unscathed, proving her innocence. - Sita's Exile: Despite the trial, rumours persist, and Rama reluctantly sends Sita into exile. She gives birth to Rama's twin sons, Lava and Kusha, during her removal. - Reunion and Ascension: Eventually, Rama reunites with his sons. After proving her purity once again, Sita asks Mother Earth to take her back, and the earth swallows her. Rama later returns to his divine form, concluding his earthly mission. - Themes: - Dharma: The concept of duty and righteousness is a central theme. - Loyalty and Devotion: Exemplified by characters like Hanuman, Lakshmana, and Sita. - Good vs. Evil: The battle between Rama and Ravana symbolises the eternal battle between good and evil. - Chastity and Honor: Sita's trials emphasise the importance of honour and purity in the epic. - Influence: The Ramayana has profoundly influenced Indian culture, art, and literature. It has been retold in various languages and adapted into numerous plays, films, and television series. This is a concise summary, and the Ramayana, in its entirety, is a rich tapestry of tales, lessons, and characters that delve deep into human emotions, values, and the concept of Dharma. How do I use a "Android phone"
-@darkblade-the-unending-curse (old guy)
Don't worry, it's a very confusing device for a lot of people, so here's an explanation on how to use a cell phone.
First off, you want to turn it on. If the screen is lighting up, you can skip this step. Otherwise, there should be three buttons on the side of your phone (ignoring the front). Two of these are volume control, which we'll get to later. These are the two that are closer together on the side of the phone. The third button, which is farther from the other two, is the power button. If you press it, it should turn on. If it doesn't turn on, try holding the button for a few seconds. If it shows a symbol on the screen that looks like a power cell, or something similar, you need to charge the device. This can be done by plugging it in with the included power cable, or injecting low-energy lightning magic into the port at the bottom.
Once your phone is turned on, you need to sign in. Usually it will tell you how to do this. Mine has some text at the bottom that shows up and says "Press Home to Unlock," Home being the button at the bottom of the phone. However, yours might say "Swipe to unlock" accompanied by some arrows. If you set a password for your device, you will need to input it, assuming you remember what it is. No, I don't know what your password is, that ruins the point of a password.
Once your phone is unlocked, and you're on the home screen (If you're not, you can press the circle button down at the bottom of the screen to get there), You'll want to go to the App Store, or the Google Play Store by tapping on the icon above the words, and search up "Magic Controller for Android," by tapping the long rounded rectanle at the top, or the magnifying glass, and then using the keyboard that has appeared on your screen, type in the words and press Return. Download the first app that shows up, by tapping on it, and pressing the icon that looks like an arrow going into a box. Then, tap the circle button at the bottom of the screen to return to the home page, find the app you just downloaded, and tap on it. You can then follow the simple instructions that have appeared on your screen to set up the Magical Interface. It will show you how to access your cellphone from anywhere, and will also allow you to fully customize your interface to however you want it, in a simple way. Do you like all your apps being separate spells? Or would you like the apps to be individual gestures? Whatever your preference is, it can be selected there. From there, you should be able to study the spells out of the spellbook it summoned like you would any spellbook, and then you should have a significantly easier time using your cellphone!
Hope this helps!

Academic Dishonesty
By the way, children. "Academic Dishonesty" [with really big scare quotes] has quite the range of interpretations. Did you know that missing out on the joy of writing another pointless busywork essay to pad your A with by reusing old pointless busywork essays that you yourself wrote to answer other pointless busywork assignments that might be close enough to get you a decent enough grade with a little polishing up of the old turd is ACADEMIC DISHONESTY!!!!! [in SPACE, ACE ace ace... fuck I'm old] That is correct. You heard it here first. I am old. lol. dad joke.
Hopefully before you heard it before you heard it from the racist nazi fuck who teaches economics 234 like it was the grad level course he knows he deserves to teach and holds all of his students to the very highest and most rigorous academic standards. Some students get more rigor held up than others if you catch my drift. He loves to send academic careers of the most vulnerable brown kids he can find down in flames and kick them back down into the gutter where they belong. He loves to introduce you to that one using every search program he can personally afford while sniveling about "shirking duties" and "work ethic" and how you are "only hurting yourself" and how "disappointed" he is or whatever bullshit he puts in there to make you feel shitty and grease what's left of his conscience. These fuckers will stick that little rule so deep into your syllabus, but they will mention it on the first day of class as they drone through the syllabi. And that will be their moral cover.
You were already in legal trouble. Every time you ever did that in any class at any point in your academic career, to the point that I can't even copy and paste my own fucking materials and methods from my previous bullshit paper I wrote to get funding for my study shit onto the next bullshit paper I write for the same fucking predatory journal I paid $4000 (you read that right) out of my own fucking bank acount (I actually asked my masters for some help with the fees for publishing the work I did for them. And my lovely Christian masters said "make it enough") I have to pay that same journal another $4k the next time I publish on another aspect of the same fucking experiment in the same fucking volume of the journal they charge people 50 buck a pop just to be able to read a single article on your computer screen on their website for 72 hours. They frown on downloading to read at your leisure or to print out to read later on paper with a pen in my mouth like a normal person reads things.
You know, some of those assholes don't ever mention that technicality. Not in class. Not in the halls. Not out on the green. Not when they smoke all your weed when they crash your parties and hit on the underage girls. No. They ever and only pull it out on you when you are in their office, alone with no one to save you. And there is no saving. Every professor, every administrator, even your own classmates with throw up their hands and say that sucks. Maybe it was racist and fuck him for that. But, they will remind you, rules are rules! Even if they are fucking stupid rules that are only there to keep you busy doing shit work because if you get out of doing your shit job, that won't be fair to the other people who didn't have a get out of shit job free card laying around from another shit job.
So before you polish up the old turd, make sure you find and replace some words and switch around some sentences.

Installing Pro Tools???
It was a pretty good idea and fortunately worked out. A number of years ago, I was in a band who had a great singer, but she was moving out of town. Before she left, she paid for a studio session for all of us so we both could have demos to use. After the session, I got the files from the studio, which included the Pro Tools files as well as the final mixes. However, I never owned Pro Tools in my life and had no plans to. I have always wanted to access these sessions because the audio files I had from them didn't line up so I couldn't simply drag them into Logic, the DAW that I use. Over the weekend, I had an idea. Pro Tools has a free, fully-functioning 30-day trial (Ultimate version). I know how to easily create a volume on a drive and install macOS on it. I realized I could install the Pro Tools trial on this separate volume and not litter my working drive with all the bits Pro Tools would probably install everywhere. I would be creating a separate sandbox where I could do whatever with Pro Tools without worrying about making a mess and possibly conflicts (probably not, but still) with what I use regularly. The short version of the story is that yes, I was able to create "track files" of all the tracks for each song that I could drag into Logic and have everything line up. I even remembered to take screen shots of the mixer so I could start out with similar panning and levels. It all worked out in the end. But getting there was another matter. When you install Logic, you buy it from the App Store, it downloads, and it's mostly ready to go. The only other thing you might do is install the "Additional Content." But it does that in the background if you want. On the other hand, Pro Tools is installed using some app from Avid, and you have to create an iLok account if you don't have one, and then you have to go to the iLok site and "reset" your password so you have it, and then you have to enter your username/email and password in Pro Tools, and you have to approve several of the plug ins during the install process even though you told it to do everything, and if you launch Pro Tools too early, it launches the basic Pro Tools Intro version which is pretty limited and not enough to open studio recordings with many tracks like this one, I think it crashed at one point during the install, at one point I would swear it said "installed" when it wasn't and then somehow I got it back to "installing", etc. My reaction was that I cannot imagine that most people getting into this wouldn't be overwhelmed by having to go through this process. I long thought that studios that are using an old version of Pro Tools are doing so because of the "if it's working, don't upgrade or mess with it" philosophy, but I suspect it's as much because the install process is beyond them. Once it was installed and working, it seemed fine, but I'm a technical person and I was frustrated by the process. I won't even go into the slightly convoluted process of selecting all the tracks and "consolidating" them so they could be output as full length tracks because I don't know if other DAWs do it any better, but I did have to go to several sources before I found the track selection method. I know Pro Tools is the "standard" in many studios and many people use it because of that despite there being other very good options. I just hope that other third-party DAWs aren't as difficult to install. Once I was in it, it wasn't horrible and I'm sure some of the difficulties I had were simply differences between it and what I'm used to in Logic. I'm also happy that I have it *over there* and have a few more weeks to jump into it if I need something else from it, and worse case, can subscribe for a month to get into the full or a larger version later.

Like where raising one parameter and lowering another have an offsetting effect that make the difference hard to detect. It helps me see things I might not have naturally intuited. a challenge! I must say, compared to a lot of video tutorials I've used, this one has something that's different. !! When you get a lot of parameters and you have to listen closely to the challenge sound and move tons of them, it's really. The best part of the app, imho, is the cumulative challenges. and telling a saw from a square with different filters applied is tricky too. Setting a delay (because I do it a lot for guitars) is pretty easy, but adjusting synth only parameters like the filter cutoff and envelope are trickier. The filter cutoff and envelope tend to be two of the items I have the hardest time setting. Another interesting find is how a saw and narrow pulse sound similar. Ok, no big deal, but it's interesting to see that as I try to match these, I have trouble telling them apart. As you can see, theres no top toolbar :(Driving me nuts so any help would be much appreciated Thanks heaps 2 comments. In the intro video, it says to go to the top toolbar and click 'options', 'launch standalone synth' but its not showing up.
#Syntorial full screen free
In order to have those first sounds stronger without having the later sounds audible, you shorten the feedback setting. I just downloaded Syntorial Demo which Primer free is supposed to be inbuilt and included. If the sound of the item fades beyond audible, then the real difference is in the volume of the first delay sounds. So, in the example of the delay setting, I learned that I'm most likely to trade Feedback and Mix Volume. After you do your best to make your sound match the challenge sound, you click submit and it shows you which parameters you set correctly and gives you the opportunity to go back and try some more. For example, you get a sound and you have to match the delay in time, mix volume, feedback and stereo spread. Next, it challenges you to match 5-6 sounds using the parameters from the lesson. Next, it opens the synth so you can play with it. The way the app works, it gives you a short video talking about a set of parameters. Syntorial comes with a Synth that you could use in Sonar if you want, but it's not on par with the other producer synths. I like to play with Synths myself, although it isn't how I spend most of my time. So, I bought it yesterday and I've completed 38 of the 203 lessons so far. There's a $30 discount through the store. So, Syntorial is this new thing you can get through the Cakewalk Store to try to learn to program synths better.
