So I'm reading for an art history class, and Baudrillard is talking about the trends in colour usage from generation to generation (mostly in interior design, but there's definite spillover into fashion, architecture, etc.), and how every new colour movement is a direct rebellion against the previous one, like how the bright colours of the 60s/70s were a direct response to the austerity and seriousness of the WWII/postwar era, and how a shift back to organized, moralistic neutrals were a direct rejection of 60s/70s gaudiness, etc., and that all makes sense, people find their parent's style tacky, sure

But he goes on to observe how we've now been stuck in a lull of pasty tones and naturalistic finishes for some time, and I'm thinking yes, he's so right, but that's weird, because its been hanging around for so long, like what is it rebelling against anymore? What is it answering to? Well all I had to do was be patient because lo and behold, Baudrillard provides the following sentence, which caused me to completely wig out:

"...except of course, for the spheres of advertising and commerce, where colour's power to corrupt enjoys full rein"

And I'm like ooohhhhHHHHHH, so this colourless minimalist wasteland of a design principle:

EDIT: The reading was The System of Objects by Jean Baudrillard, 1996 Ed., Part A, Section II, Subheading "Atmospheric Values: Colour" (p. 30-36 in my copy). Even if this was a passionate spur-of-the-moment post, omitting this was pretty silly; my bad.

EDIT 2: I was trying to be chill and leave this one alone, cuz I know most people in the notes are talking to themselves and their followers and not actually me, but 11,000 notes in it's starting to get to me - yes, I am aware that decreased homeownerhship/increased renting/landlord specials/hyperfocus on resale values, are all very direct causes of this too. I totally agree. For me, those were the obvious answers; I think we all get why the owning class is serving this to us. My epiphany moment was about understanding the flip side, the psychology of the consumers who keep accepting it, and even seem to enjoy it. That's what I couldn't understand before, but now I suddenly do. (And for those of you saying such people don't exist, no one actually wants to live without colour - check the notes, bb, they're everywhere. Not everyone has the same brain as you. We all deal with the horrors of capitalism differently.)

The question in question is, "Why do we as a society like boobs?" The thing I find the most annoying on a personal level about the "Um ACTUALLY a lot of psychologists question / doubt if DID is even real ahermhemhrrr" is that like...

No fucking SHIT they do. Like I'm just a fucking caterpillar in the world of psychological research but like, I've worked as a research assistant in a lab for a year and talked to a number of PhD candidates and professors about papers and theories and shit and like, I'm going to tell you - researchers are some of the most petty, particular, and pretentious discoursers in the fucking planet to the point they make it their fucking paid job and get fancy titles for it; the only fucking difference is that they do it on a larger professional scale and do it in a "refined manner".

Of COURSE there are people who are going to go aherm herm there ACTUALLY isn't enough evidence and it is of my opinion that THIS is more likely due to this and that; like OF COURSE there are its fucking psychological research; they literally agree on NEAR TO NOTHING

Like, I'm sure even the most fundamental concepts of psychology you learn in common psychology classes I can find reputable psychologists who research, dedicate research, and are of the opinion that that is wrong

Like, one of my professors I talked a lot to about literature on memory told me about how MOST literature points to "forgetting" being functionally run primarily by interference rather than decay of memory, but him - a fully fledged highly respected reputable professor in a reputable RESEARCH UNIVERSITY - states that even so he refuses to believe it as he was and has been on team decay and has a number of potential hypothesis and modifications to his decay hypothesis that "the other studies are missing"

And like thats not BAD, that is like fundamentally how psychological research grows to be more and more accurate. Psychologist fucking argue and doubt consciousness exists and how the function of forgetting and memory exists and we are going to sit here and be shocked that people can find psychologists that think DID - a disorder based on memory, identity, consciousness and trauma - is fake when they can't even agree on waht the FUCK memory is???

Like??? Yes of course there are some that think that, its the fucking field of psychology. If I said "Oh there are psychologists who do not believe consciousness is real and is actually an illusion / functional by product from a highly advanced computer-like brain that uses schemas to make its decisions" does that suddenly mean we should jsut assume everyone who claims to experience a consciousness is faking / not real????? Straight up, I think he was the 8-armed man on Zero/Canella: poly-armed with an ominous omnipotent eye (tattoo) on his forehead, bald with beard. He needed a place to start his research and what better place than the beginning of where his new subjects started.

I don't think we have seen any of the 3 Unspeakables. The 3 Unspeakables are not free, implying they too might be sealed away with the Dark Entity from the prophecy.

It's been hinted at that Dr. Ooze is the Nameless Prince, as he has similar intentions to creating a single race and has been on a rampage destroying other worlds. Gillion(?) suggested that Jug the Tortle is the Guarding Giant. But im not fully buying either of these.

I think the Unborn Kings doesn't literally mean unborn or "embryo", but rather they themselves don't know their role and have yet to realize that in themselves. I'm inclined to believe Chip might even be one, with all of his struggles believing in himself to be a leader/captain/good person.

Potentially others of the main cast (trio & primary NPCs) may also be Unborn Kings in this sense. HOWEVER due to Jay, Queen, Earl, etc. have left the Black Sea, they are now excluded from this. Leaving Chip, Gillion, Gryffon, and Drey (though we lost Drey somewhere to the Hole).

The True Prophecy

"An Entity threatens the world of stability, / Caged in the deepest layers of infinity. / The seal remains locked by a key of divinity, its release in time an inevitability. // A Seagods last egg, The Chosen is born, / Underneath an eclipse, in the midst of a storm. / 'Foreboded calamity' The Chosen is warned, / the shape of all life shall take a new form. / It's choice to be made with no time to mourn."

On youtube during the animation, the "key of divinity" was shown as the black and gold egg, the same one as in the one-shot. However, I don't think the egg is the key, but rather the hands reaching for it. Gillion is our only known divine being of our main cast, and I believe he is the only one who can handle the egg without collapsing the pocket-realm (like what happened in the one-shot).

"Deepest layers of infinity" could be a very broad perspective of what life is inside the egg. Much like Gillion in the Luxbris Pearl, where he was falling for infinity in an enclosed space, the egg may be of similar ability.

We also know that this Entity, has been fought before. So if the egg is the cage, it could be a reciprocal(?) being (similar to a phoenix, or the water horse if you've seen that movie) -- something that either rebirths or something that births a 'clone' and then dies itself.

"[The Chosen's] choice to be made with no time to mourn" -- Our boy Gillion is gonna have fucking rough decision soon, and potentially that decision is between the land or the sea (but I don't think so, that would be silly and a stupid prophecy because the one cannot survive without the other as The Tree said)

Faye & Jason Ferin

Jason is a fucking Clone Soldier like DoppelGillion was. We don't have dates or a time frame for when those experiments were happening, but it sounds like it happened before the Hole in the Sea.

That means it likely happened around/shortly after Ava Ferin's death. "My son is stable", Ava's death likely shattered him (as losing a child does). I believe Faye offered this to him as 'a way to heal' when in reality it was to keep his focus on his work -- which also ties in to how focused he became for the promotion, and started to disregard his family as a whole.

The only thing that doesn't fully add up is how he responded to Jay about her mother/his wife. I wouldn't think an obedient clone would call off a Navy objective for a (now) false family.

So alternatively, like Gillion, Jason was hooked up to the repression machine to block out the emotions he felt about Ava's death as to regear him towards work. But a side affect means that those emotions were connected beyond Ava and reached the rest of his family.

Captain Lizzie & the Navy Mole

John and Caspian come to mind first as they are generally the most involved NPCs of her crew.

However, Caspian had been a pirate and with Lizzie well before she became a captain. Caspian being the mole just doesn't make sense character wise -- but at the same time he would be who Lizzie would trust most and ultimately be the biggest aid to the Navy.

John would make the most sense logically as he was a Navy Marshal. The way he went about becoming a pirate seems too out there to be faked. Also, I would think a higher up (Faye Ferin) might have (discretely) pulled him before he was sent into the Block as he would have more information on pirate plans than what he would be able to message.

And that leaves Rudith, the medic. He was on Jeraldo Island passively listening to all pirates who came in for aid. Yes, he had a safe house for the Granberry Pirates & Friends under his clinic, but that information seemed to be easily attainable, and maybe even for a price had the moment came.

Maybe an undercover Navy went in as sick, observed, saw Lizzie & Co frequent the clinic, then strike a deal to protect Rudith & his patients (despite the patients being pirates).

i am here to show a few reasons why cinders ouatis does, in fact, qualify as a cinerella.

(btw htis is not to pcik a fight or to be rude to that anon, i would sjut like to show that there are several thigns the propaganda did not speak of that qualified her for the position, if she's meant to follow all the cinerellea tropes.)

first, her story, then how it falls into line with what makes a cinderella.

so, her mom died. that's. that's kidna a big stapple in msot cinderallas. her dad (the king btw, i promise it's kinda important) remarried to her "wicked stepmother" and then had new stepsisters as well (wicked in quotes. they're- ok. there's a lot)

in the era of a war against king Cole, cole ended up taking over her kingdom/planet, with the help of her stepsisters and step mother, and they kinda turned her in ("wicked" part). she was then thrown into jail.

(also her love interest was, at least in popular theories since it wasn't explicetly stated, one of the commanding officers in the raid.)

rose, her love interest ("Prince Charming" but yk princess bc lesbians yippee!), got to know her a bit while she was still in prison, and there was like a lot of unresolved everything.

then a "godmother in white" (snow, rose's sister, or at least that's how i interpreted it, however it could very well be general white or whatever her title was that snow ended up adopting) broke her out the day that rose was resasigned and leaving planet. the godmother told her that if she and rose were married by midnight, then they woul be able to be together bc idk laws ig? (i mean, i've nevre heard of laws that allow that but yk ok why not)

then at the wedding cole ended up kidnapping rose and cinders fled (she also feels really guilty about this, but if you read the fiction for it, im pretty sure it said that rose had told her to run) and was one fo the few survivers of the everything that happened there.

then she spends the rest of her years hunting down rose wiht this like... mood ring? at least it kinda works like one i think.

then when she finally finds rose agin.... um.

NOW HERE'S WHERE THINGS OVERLAP

again, the remarriage of her father.

then the way her stepmother and sisters treated her. now, again. never explicitly stated how they treated her before cole came and stuff, but after that, she was in the position of being in rags when she deserved so mcuh more than that, but her stepfamily took it from her (in a few other ersion it's the stepmother making her the family servant/slave, in other version it's... something else idk i don''t read a lot of cinderella stuff tbh i preffer other fairy tales).

then we have the godmother saving her. that part speaks for itself. i think.

then for the ball (or in this case, a wedding to her "true love"), it IS explicitly stated that the rings, that turn red when its other is with it, are made of glass. in the fiction, it said that as cinders was putting the ring on rose's finger, the bmombs went off, and she dropped it. rose caught it, stuffed it in her wedding dress pocket (fuck yeah, i would love to have that on my wedding dress), told cinders to run. leaving the glass slipper (ring, ig, but yk it slipped so) behind, right around midnight.

also, her name isn't even cinders officially! i don't know what it was before, but durring the whole revolution and such and her looking for rose, she edned up taking a new name/persona, much like snow, and was dubbed cinders, "after the her ashen world" (or whatevr it was, idk, i haven't listened to the album in a bit). again, this plays into the whole thing with the name that many other version and adaptations liek to play off of.

tbh this is all i can think of rn bc im kinda tired, so feel free to expand on this. wanted to give as mcuh details as i could abotu her story and how it is fairly similar to every other cinderella story.

however to me, a lot of these cinderellas also jsut. aren't too close to a certain story of cinderella. there's a lot of creative liberaty taken in every version. now, the album in it of itself, (once upon a time (in space)) takes a bucnh of stories, this and many other fary tales, and twists them and makes it their own. it's an adaptation. and when it comes to things like folk lore, ledgends, myths, and fairy tales (especially those), there's always gonna be some inconsistancies than with other version derived of the same media. hell, even jsut the stories themselves almsot never stay consistent.

a cinderella is a cinderella if they are said to be based off of the story of cinderella. (im looking at you carrie, and how no one said she was any less of a cinderella than any other competitor)

okay i totally jsut realized i jumped back into using this site like i didnt delete my entire old blog. so. you might be asking: "julia who the fuck are hanamoto and fujimaru and why do you keep tagging posts as them" they are two of my favorite characters for two totally different reasons and i would do anything for them

fujimaru is fujimaru takagi from bloody monday. i dont recommend you read bloody monday i'm just irrationally attached to the series because it got me through a time. i literally only have these pics of him and otoya for some reason but fujimaru's the one with the dark hair

he's my worst son and i would do anything for him. he's a hacker and the series has some of the funniest scenes where he ends up teaming up with a counterterrorism unit called Third I and all his companions are in a circle kicking peoples asses around fujimaru who is hunched over a laptop furiously typing like "5 more minutes guys, i got this!!" he's a weak little shithead nerd and i woudn't have it any other way. i have a tattoo of a falcon as a long joke about this guy (also because falcons rule). he's not my first bird aligned fave but he's sure up there on characters that impacted me. i totally didnt realize how many emotions i still have about this guy until i started writing this part of this post. if i reread bloody monday i'm sorry (i'm not sorry) it's the residual fujimaru in my brain.

one time i think in bm2 he blew up a whole room by scattering a bunch of flour in the air, turned directly to the camera, and said "the internet can teach you anything!" he is a menace to society.

bloody monday 1 is good, bloody monday 2 is okay, i do not talk about bloody monday last season. the drama adaptions are, to my recollection, fine! but also i last watched them about 10 years ago so take that with a grain of salt.

fun fact, the guy who plays otoya in the bloody monday drama(s) is the same guy who plays den-o. i haven't seen den-o but its just another one of the "the descent into toku was prophesized" moments like me being obsessed with okkusenman as a kid.

i would say i think otoya and fujimaru should kiss but i think fujimaru doesn't deserve otoya. otoya is too good for him.

shuji hanamoto makes me feel every emotion known to man. i dont know what the juice is that was put in him that makes him so poppin. a couple years back i was chatting with a friend at the time about the series and we were like "yeah the beauty of honey and clover is that each time you read it you relate with a different character more" which is absolutely true but also 100% the bitch of all time has to be hanamoto for me. i started reading this series in shojo beat magazine back in middle school to give perspective on how long this man has haunted me.

should i get into hanamoto gay theory? i think i should get into hanamoto gay theory. mostly because i can't recommend the series knowing the ending unless i tell you about (and make sure you're also subscribed to) hanamoto gay theory. hanamoto is blatantly in love with his old (dead) college buddy harada and it hurts me to my core. please observe:

watched a video where it was ( jokingly ) pointed out that ZHONGLI actually KNEW who BAIZHU was & simply pretended to be dumb & not know who he was . 

in the game, it is shown zhongli doesn’t know who baizhu was & asks him who he was despite being so well known across regions & among the adepti ( xiao knows of him ) & despite hu tao’s ( technically zhongli’s associate / boss ) has beef with him . 

the reason why the video claims zhongli was playing dumb was DUE to the fact that the fatui were EVESDROPPING on the convo @ bubu pharmacy - & zhongli somehow knew this - & he played dumb to PROTECT baizhu . 

essentially , the theory states that baizhu is the ex - dendro archon but in hiding . 

while that honestly isn’t the truth ( it is only a theory ) i do believe that zhongli MAY had an inkling of knowing who baizhu was / is upon seeing him for the first time , HOWEVER , the reason for HIDING that is not because baizhu was an ex - archon , but for other reasons . those reasons are probably unknown but zhongli doesnt owe anybody anything . he doens’t need to tell anybody what he does or doesnt know - in other words , the knowledge that zhongli has doesnt always need to be given away .

so the theory that zhongli DOES know baizhu is really likely , but the theory behind WHY he knows him is most likely different than what other people would assume . 

at least for me - there are many other reasons as to why zhongli would hide baizhu’s identity , especially from the eyes of the fatui . 

the reasons could range from the idea that baizhu HOLDS information that not even zhongli knows about - or that he holds information that not many mere mortals know about . maybe because of who & what baizhu is , zhongli doesnt want the fatui knowing . or maybe its the idea that baizhu would most likely be an interesting SPECIMEN for the fatui & simply does not want to put the liyuan native in any danger . especially since baizhu seems so BELOVED by many people . maybe its the idea that baizhu KNEW or had some swareness that the geo archon wasn’t actually dead - because again , baizhu knew he wasnt dead & it was a setup . baizhu probably has some important information around morax / zhongli , that it was better to play pretend and not know the doctor rather than putting hiM in a potion to reveal the truth ( even if it was partially ) meaning that zhongli could have had more selfish motives in pretending to not know who baizhu was . 

any of these reasons , im sure , would WARRANT zhongli’s actions though . despite zhongli doing very little for his people , what he did is incredibly calculated & with thought . which is why i do consider the theory that zhongli knew baizhu , but pretended not to know who he was . jsut not for the reasons that some people may think it was for .
