I can be 100% wrong about this but in my head Jelani and Angelus are super good at fixing stuff (in any AU) and use it as a productive bonding time <3

No, yeah, you are 100% right about this. I'll try not to word vomit as I usually do lol. Emphasis on try.

In Oracle Angelus is good at a more techy IT sorta approach to fixing things. On top of drawing one of his other favorite things to do is make mods for games he likes to play or games friends or family are playing and want things not already available and will happily help if someone broke a game by incorrectly installing something or wrong placement. Very into jailbreaking phones. He loves to reverse engineer programs. Trevor is currently teaching him all he knows about cars. Also, also, also! Since he's a werewolf he's got "close ties to nature" so like all werewolves he kinda has this...sixth sense about plant life so he or any werewolf for that matter can totally help nurture your plants back to health.

On the other hand given the year and place Jelani was born in yeah he can absolutely fix most anything that's broken in and around the house. His dad and uncle are engineers so whenever he and Loke visit their parents back home he likes to help his dad and uncle with personal or work related projects. His aunt's a vet, back in ye olden times she was the one that tended to cattle, pets and other animals and Jelani was always right there assisting (huge animal lover and nerd. Always said that if he wasn't doing what he does he'd be a zoologist or biologist). When he visits his parents he'll make time to visit his aunt and help her like he used to as a kid. So yeah, he can tend to wounds, illnesses and stuff.

They do go to and rely on each other for things the other knows and can help. Even if one doesn't know what the other is doing they love to watch and help and in Angelus's case ask a million questions.

In Fallout Jelani can take apart, clean, oil and put back together ANY weapon you put in front of him. Any. He can fix any too and has even gone so far as to Frankenstein several weapons to max out their usefulness and deadliness. Gungnir, his anti-material sniper rifle, is a prime example of it. The damn thing is so highly customized that it's almost impossible for anyone else to properly use it. Loke taught him a bit about maintaining and fixing armor, Jela's got the basics down but for the more complicated stuff he goes to Loke. Jela's also been known to modify turrets, traps and other security as well as fixing them whenever they get damaged after attacks. Can fix computers, hack them and even fixed that old pip-boy Loke found.

Given his upbringing and lifestyle Angelus doesn't really know much of anything about fixing or maintaining anything. But he's been learning from Jelani how to clean and maintain weapons. Weapons kind of elude him and he's not too good with guns yet but he's proven to be a fast learner. He also helps Jelani whenever he's about fixing stuff. Angelus quickly learned that Jelani likes to keep himself busy as a form of distraction to avoid shit so he's always on the lookout for dirty, discarded or broken weapons and brings them to him and it's great for both helping Jela and for bonding.

In Skyrim Angelus was pretty much waited on hand and foot. He never had to do much of anything. Why when you have a bunch of servants doing anything and everything? However, his move to Skyrim when he ran away was a shock to the system though he still carries that mentality of "why fix it when you can just buy it again?" His time with Loke, Jelani and Uthorim have turned him around. Mostly. He found that Jelani will at times resurrect plants and flowers that have died in the garden because at times Loke can be very busy with patients. He kinda took a liking to gardening and in a way it feels like he's repaying Lo, Jela and Uth back by keeping the garden plentiful and healthy which is where Lo gets his ingredients and has a bit of a "shrine" for his parents and it helps for when Jela's not home. Since Angelus is the one that stays at home he's stopped being a diva and helps out around the manor keeping it clean and organized.

Jela on the other hand will help him clean but can fix stuff around the manor so they team up to keep things in order as Lo and Uth are the busiest of the four of them. Jela can maintain weapons though not really fix 'em. Being a mercenary and a member of Lady Valerica's court means things get damaged from stabs or slashes and he's learned to fix things which Angelus likes to watch him do and prompts him to ask a million questions.

yeah that's about how I feel too in early 2020 I was looking at different myths to use for the Oracle Turret lines that I wanted to write, and the ones about Medea caught my attention, and then later in the year I read a translation of the play. My copy didn't have that exact wording, but I found that one later and really enjoyed it.

🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels? Goodbyes. When characters have to say goodbye, the soft goodbyes and see you layers, or sudden and unfair goodbyes, or goodbyes where they never get to say it at all. Those moments really get the emotions going.

🍦 What's the sweetest fic you've created so far? It would probably be some of the Years of Science chapters. I haven't written a ton of other fics, so it'd have to be the few sweet chapters sprinkled into YoS

🥰 How do you feel about reader interaction? Are you open to receiving questions about your fics? I love reader interactions! Getting asks about my work or DM's with questions about it genuinely makes my day. Adding things like locations or even characters (looking at you Oracle Turret) are meaningful because they came from reader interactions! I am always open to answering questions about my fics!

💖 What made you start writing? In general, I just really loved writing stories. This Chell blog used to be used for RPing, and it was so much fun working with other people who loved Portal to create more stories with the characters we loved. I had rped a bunch when I was younger and that's what really got me into personal writing.

🤩 Who is your favorite character to write? Chell is always a ton of fun, but getting to write GLaDOS is a fantastic change of pace. I love her sass and writing her has always been something I've really looked forward to!

I think glados writing cara mia addio makes more sense narratively than the turrets writing it tbh, it feels like a song written by somebody with an actual relationship with chell that the turrets just don't have (with the exception of the oracle turret). not trying to be mean or tell you you're wrong, just giving my perspective

yeah no that's super fair! this is probably the best explanation i've gotten (i've asked this question a few times elsewhere haha)

though i will say, i'd argue that nearly everything in aperture has some sort of relationship to chell though :o idk everything just feels too connected to me to think that *only* glados has any sort of feelings towards her. (for the record i don't ship che//dos (i don't really have any portal ship tbh), personal reasoning there; go crazy if u do!! but i still do absolutely believe glados cares for her in Some capacity, esp at the end! there's no way she doesn't (if u didn't see my tags in the post this ask is about- i Hate the caroline is chell's mom theory <3))

idk i love the idea that the *whole* facility cares about chell in some way or another, at least at the end! even though she rightfully resents the facility and glados for trapping her against her will.

Knock-knock "Hello? Doc? Are you in?"

"Victor! Yes, come on in! I'm just fiddling around with something."

"Thanks -- I need another set of eyes," Victor explained, pushing open the door. "Johnson wants me to design a few more 'safety signs' for the test chambers and ahhhh!"

Victor jumped away as a red light skittered over his chest, courtesy of the large white turret sitting in front of his friend. "You could have warned me you were working on one of those!" he said, ducking behind Doc for safety.

"Oh, relax," Doc said, opening one of the side "wings." "It's completely unloaded, see? I've made sure of that ever since the, ah, incident on the fifth."

"Incident?" Victor repeated suspiciously.

"Wheatley."

"Ah." Victor swallowed as the laser found his body again. "I-I thought you were done with testing the effects of time displacement on turrets. I heard the explosions from the last test all the way over in the biology wing."

"Actively moving them through the time stream has ceased, yes," Doc said, looking just a touch embarrassed. "I really had no idea an artificial intelligence would take seeing itself at a different point in time so poorly. . .no, I'm just studying the circuitry of this particular misfit. It had a very -- unique reaction to the temporal displacement."

Victor eyed the laser, then the turret. "Unique?"

"Sleeping Beauty was cursed to sleep for a hundred years until a prince came to wake her up."

Victor started, dropping his papers. "What the--"

"Rather odd to hear them say things other than 'There you are' and 'Target acquired,' huh?" Doc said, smiling a little at his friend's surprise. "But this one's been spouting things like that ever since I sent it five minutes into the future." He peered into the wing, squinting past the rows of gun barrels, then loped his way over to the computer in the corner. "I'm hoping to figure out why."

"Hasn't this happened before?" Victor asked, crouching to gather up his designs. "You said something about turrets having existential crises before when moved through time."

"Yes, but usually that just ends with them screaming until they explode, or repeating a single nonsense phrase like 'purpose defines existence but existence defines purpose' over and over. Until they explode." Doc pulled out a bundle of wires. "This one. . .as far as I can tell, it's a standard-issue turret. No defects or parts out of line. But it's like -- something happened during its trip that altered its programming. Something that -- made it thoughtful. Reminds me of that Fact Core they're working on."

"Blue, yellow, green, pink. Remember that."

"Sure thing." Doc dragged the bundle over to the turret. "Victor, you've got slender fingers -- help me hook this thing into the computer, will you? Then we'll look at your drawings while I take my readings."

"All right," Victor said, though he didn't really fancy shoving his hands into one of Aperture's more lethal designs. He leaned over the turret as Doc untangled the wires and got some temporary solder putty ready. "Um -- d-did you like your trip through time?" he asked it, then felt like an idiot. Even if it talked more than your average turret, it wasn't like it --

The laser shrunk. "Don't bring your daughter to work."

". . .why did that sound vaguely omnious?"

"Remember, Victor -- it doesn't really know what it's saying," Doc told him, patting his back before handing him the first wire. "These AIs are designed to unnerve people. It's all part of its programming." He pointed to a spot deep in the turret's guts. "Start here, please. So, what are Johnson's plans for poor Bendy this week?"

NUMBER 15 BURGER KING BURGER-

Ok all jokes aside, unpopular opinion time. 

- It’s cool if you just personally don’t like ChellDOS, but shipping aside, I think they are coded as a couple. I mean, GLaDOS sings her Cara Mia and Don’t Say Goodbye, which are objectively love songs. Want You Gone and You Wouldn’t Know are breakup songs. There’s deleted content where GLaDOS passive aggressively gets mad at Chell “cheating on her” by talking to other cores. GLaDOS begins to use “we” in old Aperture and starts treating Chell like an ally, then saves her and lets her go, all while revealing the humanity she’d promised not to reveal to anyone else. The ENTIRE FOCUS of the series is on their changing, dynamic relationship be it as friends or enemies. Their arc is also literally just... an enemies to lovers set up lol. Again, I’m not saying it’s canon per se or that you have to ship it or like it, but I am saying there’s a lot of canon subtext there. (Also btw I heard somewhere “cake” in Argentinian Spanish is slang for lesbians so maybe the cake isn’t a lie-)

- Wheatley is very flawed, and throughout the whole game. I don’t think he was always evil and I definitely think he got corrupted just like GLaDOS, but I also don’t think it was a case of “Corrupt The Cutie.” He’s never been a cinnamon roll or whatever the fandom calls it - he’s shown having some implicit sexism, he’s cowardly, he’s flighty, he’s so obviously a show off because he’s so underconfident. People seem to gloss over these things, especially his actions in the mainframe (which, btw, he is at least partially responsible for), but I feel like if you do that and then justify everything he does... you don’t have Wheatley anymore. Wheatley’s flaws make him *more* sympathetic imo, not less - like I see fics and art where people insist Wheatley doesn’t need to redeem himself or grow in any meaningful way and just want him to be forgiven. I really don’t like that because A) It’s just not true and B) a flawed but likeable character struggling to be better is so much more compelling and relatable. 

- Chelley is. Not a good ship. But. I still like it out of nostalgia and because Blue Sky lol. I think it could work post-canon but first Wheatley would need to do a lot of work on his end and actually prove to Chell that he is worthy. Unfortunately, a lot of Chelley content doesn’t actually do this and has Chell do all the emotional work for him which I don’t like. I consider myself a fan of this ship and I think if you search it up, I’m one of the blogs that comes up, but I don’t like it as much as ChellDOS and I wish people put more consideration into their fanworks when portraying it. 

- Cave dying was actually kinda sad - like he was a bad person and everything but his last few intercom messages still really get me after everything he did. He made so many fucked up decisions but like, I think it’s very relatable - this idea of getting so caught up in your own ideas that you hurt everyone around you and don’t realize until it’s too late and you’re going down with them. It’s sad because like... there were so many chances for him to stop and they never happened, and with the lemon rant he’s still struggling against everything. He still never gave up. And like... idk it just makes me emotionally because he was a bad guy for sure but he’s very human. It doesn’t make me sad in an “oh he didn’t deserve that” way, but more like the way you’re sad after finishing a Greek tragedy kinda way, if you get what I’m saying. 

- I wish I saw more content for the P1 cores because they’re adorable. I want to give the Curiosity Core and the Cake Core hugs. They are babey. 

- Wheatrat and Chellmann aren’t that popular rn because Doug never actually shows up in the game, but both these ships are seriously underrated imo (maybe that’s just the multishipper in me lol). ChellMel and Chellyx are also good and I wish there was more content for that, too. 

- It’s 2020. Can we stop acting like Wheatley did nothing wrong. Can we stop acting like GLaDOS is Only Mean And Has No Other Traits. Nuance is a thing, and the Valve writers didn’t spend hours meticulously creating these three dimensional characters for the fandom to turn them into UwU Cinnamon Roll and Mean Evil. 

- I think Chell is actually a pretty kind person - the fact the game gives you the option to save companion cubes and the oracle turrets, the fact she still tries to stop Wheatley from going to space, the fact that she allies with GLaDOS despite everything, the fact that you physically cannot let go of Wheatley in the first half when you’re holding him - Chell really only does bad things when it’s a literal matter of life and death. She’s a good person just looking out for her own survival, and I don’t like how the fandom has decided she’s mean, angry, or just as bad as GLaDOS and Wheatley when she’s pretty clearly not.

- We as white portal fans need to do better and think critically about the way we’re portraying Chell, be that drawing or writing her. Stuff like not portraying her as an angry stereotype and not whitewashing her. It’s really sad to see the amount of implicit racism in the fandom. 

- Blue Sky is still good although GLaDOS being the bad guy again was a bit OOC. I think it still serves as a good study of Wheatley and I like that it acknowledges his flaws and ultimately makes him responsible for his own redemption, not Chell. Also, “Prove it” was a raw line - I still can’t get it out of my head. 

- He’s unpopular for obvious reasons, but I really like Nigel from Aperture Tag. He’s so charming and quirky and then when he betrays you, he’s such a fun and charismatic villain. I love to hate Nigel and I wish Wheatley had been more like that when he turned evil. Nigel is a good combination of weirdly cute, intimidating, and frustrating. He’s a really well written villain and I wish more people knew about both him and Aperture Tag. 

- GLaDOS didn’t delete Caroline. I don’t think she physically can, and I think she was just lying so that Chell wouldn’t come back or think GLaDOS had feelings lol. I think even Ellen said she thought Caroline wasn’t deleted.
