Definitely Not Dating (H.HJ)
Warnings : none i can think of?
Word Count : 1622
Synopsis : all their friends tease them about dating due to how close they were, but they were just friends. or were they?
“Your boyfriend’s here.” My roommate and best friend, Felix, teased after answering the door. Hyunjin was close behind him, chuckling at the joke all our friends made about us.
“Still not dating.” I countered as I stood up from the couch, grabbing my purse. “Where to today?” My words were now directed at Hyunjin who was standing in the doorway, his hands shoved in his pockets.
“I figured we’d go see that play you’re always talking about. There’s a showing downtown tonight.” My eyes lit up when he said that. “I already bought the tickets.” He added with a chuckle.
“Have I ever told you I love you, Hwang Hyunjin?” I asked with a smile, linking my arm with his as we made our way outside and to his car.
“Only everyday.” He countered with a smirk.
“Never mind, I hate you. Ugly.” I unlinked our arms as he opened the door for me, as he always would. As I got in and buckled my seatbelt, I could see Felix in the window, watching us with a teasing grin on his face. I knew exactly what he was thinking, so I flipped him off just as Hyunjin got into the driver’s seat. He looked forward just in time to see Felix return the gesture while sticking his tongue out.
“You two have an odd friendship.” He chuckled as he did up his seatbelt. My phone automatically connected to his car as he usually let me play whatever I wanted to listen to. Our friends would always mention how cute that fact was. Maybe if you had better taste in music, he’d let you play your playlists. I’d always retort, hoping the growing feelings weren’t as obvious as our friends insisted they were.
The next day, I sat at a table in the library with a couple of friends, working on the homework given out that day. My phone, that sat on the table, seemed to vibrate with a text message every few seconds. “Should probably see what they want. It’s probably your boyfriend.” Jeongin teased, nudging me with his shoulder. I rolled my eyes, once again saying that Hyunjin and I weren’t dating.
“It’s probably Felix asking me to pick up something on my way home. Hyunjin said he was going to the dance studio today.” Hyunjin always threw himself into his dances, barely looking at his phone unless it was to pick a song or pause the music. There was absolutely no way he would be texting me right now. But when I picked it up, I was shocked to see it was him.
 We should get dinner tonight.
That restaurant you like has an opening tonight. I’ll make the reservations.
We could go stargazing after.
Why aren’t you answering me?
Oh right, you’re studying with Jeongin and Seungmin. Tell them I said hi!
Let me know when you’re done, I’ll pick you up : )
I couldn’t help but smile at the messages, my stomach doing flips as I thought about how this would be a cute date, if it was a date. Dinner and stargazing. “So, what does Felix want?” The teasing tone coming from Seungmin’s lips told me he knew it wasn’t Felix.
“Hyunjin says hi.” I answered, watching as their faces contorted into teasing grins.
“And?” Jeongin prodded, nudging me with his shoulder again.
“And that he’s making reservations at a restaurant before taking me stargazing.” I mumbled under my breath, hoping they wouldn’t hear me. They did.
Hyunjin stayed true to his word and was outside the library doors when Jeongin, Seungmin, and I exited. His long blond hair tied up in that half pony he always did, his bangs falling across his face. I never was one for long, dyed hair before, preferring men with shorter, dark hair. But Hyunjin pulled off the long blond look so well it was hard not to be drawn to him. “Have fun on your date!” Jeongin teased as the two of them took off in the opposite direction of Hyunjin and I.
“Do you think our friends will ever believe we’re just friends?” Hyunjin joked as he slid his hand in mine, lacing our fingers together. I giggled to myself, knowing that if I was an outsider looking in, I would think exactly the way they do. But this is how our friendship has been since high school. We’ve always been touchy with each other, cuddling and holding hands.
“Once we’re married to other people.” I joked, trying not to let the hurt I felt at the very thought of him falling in love with someone else evident in my voice.
We sat across from each other at my favourite restaurant, browsing the menu in silence. Soft chatter from the other patrons, and the soft classical music they played filling the comfortable silence between us. If I’m honest, I’ve only been here one other time. My previous birthday, Hyunjin brought me here. It was the first time we’d been somewhere so fancy, and we were quite underdressed, not knowing the dress code for the restaurant. We laughed about how badly we stuck out among the other patrons, but neither one of us cared. That memory alone made it my favourite place.
Hyunjin held my hand from across the table as we ate, catching each other up on our day as if we hadn’t seen each other in ages, even though I saw him yesterday. We rarely went a day without seeing each other, almost as if we had a need to be by each other’s side whenever possible.
We laid beside each other on the blanket Hyunjin brought, staring up at the night sky sparkling with stars. Soft music played from his phone that was laying in between us. He quietly sung along to the songs, and my heart swelled with joy. I absolutely loved listening to him sing, even though he hates singing in front of people. I’m sure I’m the only person that’s ever heard him, and honestly that should be a crime. His voice was my favourite in the entire world, but maybe I’m biased because I love him.
“We’re friends, right?” I asked, silencing his singing, and bringing his attention from the stars to me. I turned my head to face him, our eyes meeting.
“Of course.” He replied almost immediately.
“But are we just friends?” The question hung in the air longer than the first one, but neither one of us moved, our eyes still locked. The weight of his hand in mind suddenly clearer than it’s ever been before.
“What do you mean?” It was as if the words he meant to say were caught in his throat. I could hear it in the way his voice cracked when he answered.
“Our friends always tease us about dating.” I pointed out.
“That’s what friends do.” He smiled, his thumb now running over my knuckles. My skin burned from his touch, but I loved the feeling.
“We’re always holding hands and cuddling.”
“We’re touchy people.” He shrugged. I didn’t bring up the many times he told our other friends that he didn’t like skin ship. He wasn’t much of a hugger unless it was me. But I didn’t bring that up.
“What about all the fancy dinners? The plays? Movies? Stargazing?” I gestured to what we were doing right now with my free hand, refusing to pull my hand away from his, loving the feeling of his hand in mine. I always have.
“I like spoiling you.” Silence fell upon us again as I tried to think of what else to say. So many more things to point out, but I’m sure he had an explanation for it all. The drawers of my stuff at his place, and the drawer of his stuff at my place. The loving captions on pictures we posted of each other. The heart-shaped necklace he gave me one day, our initials engraved on the back of it. He’d have an explanation for it all, that I’m sure of. But there’s one thing he couldn’t explain away.
“I’m in love with you.” The words rolled off my tongue before I could stop them, as if they were meant to be said in that moment. He could explain all the cute moments and thoughtful gifts, saying it’s just the way our friendship is. That’s just how close we were. But the love I have for him isn’t platonic.
My confession hung in the air like a neon sign, and the confidence I once had began to fade. But before I could take it back, his lips were on mine. The same lips I’ve been dreaming about kissing for years, were now pressed against mine in the sweetest kiss I’ve ever experienced. It was a kiss filled with love and passion. A kiss that couldn’t be explained in a platonic way. “We aren’t just friends.” He whispered after pulling away. “I don’t think we ever were.”
He kissed me again when dropping me off at home that night, whispering a quick I love you before I walked into the house I shared with Felix. “How was your date?” Felix teased when he saw I was home.
“Perfect.” I smiled, watching as his eyes widened at the fact I didn’t bant with him.
“You’re not denying that this was a date?” He questioned, fully emerging from the kitchen, where he was most likely baking brownies.
“Why would I?” I kicked my shoes off and placed my purse on the coffee table before sitting on the couch, still on cloud nine.
“Because you always do? You and Hyunjin are just friends.” I smiled and shook my head.
“Hyunjin and I are definitely dating.”

Hyunjin and Jeongin take Beomgyu out to the PC Room in Itaewon for his birthday; a year after their last visit. As he reminisces the events of the year before, every corner of his mind is revisited by her — as if he were capable of forgetting her anyway.
a/n: happy beomgyu day!!💞 the inspiration to write this hit me in the middle of the night, coming from these kickass headcannons by sumi, and it's completely different to the initial idea i shared with amie sksjsjs alsothislowkeysucks. nevertheless, i hope you all enjoy!!

Despite being embraced by his thick padded coat, the freezing air still managed to disrupt the warmth in annoying, sharp gusts every time the wind blew. Itaewon was always more alive while the rest of Seoul slept soundly, and tonight was no exception. The streets were aglow with the lambent signage of the many stalls and establishments which lined it’s pavements, and were filled with clusters of people who either visited the stores, window-shopped or were simply enjoying the night-life.
Beomgyu wasn’t very enthusiastic about joining Hyunjin and Jeongin when they had initially posed the idea. He’d been spending much of his time in the studio and practice room, so the plan was to get some sleep when he had some free time. His conscience eventually got the better of him, though – he hadn’t been able to meet up with his friends in months due to work and the pandemic, and his scheduled birthday live thwarted the possibility of holding it off until the following day.
“Are you good?” Jeongin asked, pulling Beomgyu out of his thoughts, arching a brow at his dazed friend. He noticed that he had been lagging behind the two of them, and that their features were now etched with concern. Beomgyu pushed the bangs out of his face before waving them off, mumbling that he’s okay.
There was a look in their eyes that Beomgyu couldn’t quite decipher, but pushed it off as nothing when Jeongin draped an arm over his shoulder and lead him further down the street. His feet stopped squarely when they made it to the PC Room, cementing themselves before the front door. Jeongin looked at Beomgyu and smiled.
“Are you coming in?”
It wasn’t that Beomgyu didn’t want to respond, he simply couldn’t. Sure, it may have seemed like a trivial thing to answer, the words just wouldn’t formulate coherent sentences – his mind didn’t have the capacity to make them. Her. That was the only thing it could manifest. Her.
The pressure of a years-worth of his bottled emotions had finally blew it’s top – thoughts, images and memories which had been ingrained into his subconscious coming forth to hit him like a train.
“We’ll wait for you inside, then.”

Laughter ringing through the air, Hyunjin, Jeongin and Beomgyu pushed open the door to the PC Room. Beomgyu stopped at the door while the other two signed in, arms rubbing away the remnants of snow on the arms of his black coat. Removing his mask, he smiled into the warmth of the heated building. Their schedules after debut had left no space for any recreation, so it was liberating to spend New Years Eve with his friends, doing what he does best.
“Ready to have your butts kicked?” Beomgyu cackled, with his whole chest, as they took their seats next to one another in the isle, earning him much-deserved glares. As soon as he’s logged on and the headset is donned however, his usually playful demeanour is replaced by one of a much calmer nature – studying the map, observing enemy tactics and carefully directing his support as his fingers glide skilfully across the keyboard.
Hyunjin groaned after the umpteenth attempt to beat him, dropping the headset onto the desk as Jeongin whined into his hands. A smirk rolled onto Beomgyu’s lips as he leaned back into the swivel chair, flashing his brows at them. “I refuse to believe this is possible, it’s got to be rigged!”
“Ah, after all this time I’ve still got it,” Beomgyu retorted, chuffed with himself for doing as well as he knew he would. Hyunjin rolled his eyes. “I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if I ranked first with the amount of times I kicked ass on this server.”
Jeongin, who had taken it upon himself to do the fact-checking, smirked at the screen before calling the two of them over. “Actually–”
Beomgyu screamed in frustration, tossing the headset onto the desk before pushing against it, sending him flying across the floor in the chair. No matter how hard he tried, no matter the strategy he just couldn’t beat the player in first place. The commotion startled the other two, who had fallen asleep waiting for Beomgyu to finish up, the satisfaction of witnessing his losses long past.
“Just one more game, I swear!” he whined as they dragged him away from the PC screen.
Hyunjin seethed, “that’s what you said three hours ago! No, we’re leaving. Jeongin’s parents have been waiting up for us.”
Beomgyu huffed at the front counter. While the older took care of the bill, he found that the room was completely empty – almost. The light emanating from a desk directly across from where he stood, lit up the face of a young-looking girl. She seemed to be in high school (that’s what the uniform she wore indicated atleast) and the big, round, metal-framed glasses settled on the bridge of her nose, mirrored the computer screen. The sight pacified Beomgyu, for a reason he couldn’t quite explain, a smile stretching across his face.
He sauntered closer, eyes searching around for nothing in particular, trying not to look like a creep as he approached you. His smile only grew when he found her eyebrows knitted together, teeth biting down on her bottom lip in concentration. And then he saw it. The graphics reflecting from her glasses seeming all to familiar to him, he rushed around the desk, eyes darting to the top corner of the screen.

Beomgyu’s foot tapped impatiently as he waited at the desk closest to the entrance, checking his watch every few minutes, before running a frustrated hand through his soft silvery locks. He had finally gotten the chance to visit the PC room again, most of his time having gone into practice and rehearsals for award show season, and he wasn’t leaving until he saw you again.
He ran out of the practice room as soon as he heard that they would have the following day off; he was exhausted and had been waiting for almost two hours – but he refused to leave until he saw you again.
The owner noticed the boy sitting at the desk he usually reserved for you, lips curling at the sight of the fidgety youth. He had visited on three prior occasions; once with his friends, and the remaining times himself, sitting in exactly the same spot he was now sitting. Instead of chasing him away as he did everyone else, he simply waited to see how this turn of events would unfold.
You pushed open the glass doors with a huff, adjusting the strap of your backpack on your shoulder before blowing the stray hairs from your face. Keeping your eyes fixed on the ground beneath you, you nod to the owner and he returns the gesture with a smile, although he knows you won’t see it.
Beomgyu, who had almost surrendered himself to the fatigue, sat up straight when you pulled back the chair next to him. He watched as you scrunched up your nose in attempt to push your glasses up the bridge of your nose before putting the headset on, and chuckled softly.
He watched in awe as you cleared level after level, climbing the ranks as you went along, with seemingly no effort whatsoever. You kept the mic off and communicated with your group though the chat, which was probably why he never realised you were a girl. Your strategy seemed way too complex for him to understand, and his amazement never faltered for even a second, as you dominated each and every position you played.
It was a little over an hour before you decided to take a break, wondering where the owner was since he usually brought your snacks around that time. Pushing the headset around your neck, you stretched upward to see where he was, only to find yourself roughly pushed back down and turned toward a strange boy whom you’ve never seen before.
His eyes, sparkling with absolute wonder, coaxed your surprise and made your heart race with a feeling as unfamiliar as he was.
“You have to tell me how you do that! Teach me, please, Winter996!”

“Aren’t you supposed to be at practice?” you voice rang from the speaker of Beomgyu’s phone. He never questioned your reasons for not turning your mic on during the game, but insisted that you speak directly to him instead. “On your left, be careful.”
“I know, I see them. And yes, but I have some time before the next session starts.” After much pestering, about something having to do with ‘senseis’ and ‘disciples’, you agreed to let Beomgyu play with you. He was rather beside himself when you told him you never really used any strategy, though; you ‘just did what felt right’.
An adorable smile had tugged at your lips during his three hundred-and-fifty paged slideshow about the importance of strategy and observation, one he would not soon forget.
“You could just wait until Itaewon.”
“Is it my fault you only go when your rank drops?”
Soobin’s dark head of hair popped into the studio, and he glared upon finding Beomgyu tapping away at his laptop on the sofa. “I’ve been looking everywhere for you! The break as been over ages ago–”
“(Y/n), (Y/n), go, go! I’ll cover you!”
“Beomgyu, I think–”
“You’re playing again?! With a girl?!”

5 February 2020, 22:00
You’re quieter than usual and Beomgyu noticed right away. Over the phone, you never had any qualms in conversating with him– when you were playing the game, atleast. The thought that it was because of him does cross his mind, but he catches the frown you’re desperately trying to hide, by biting the inside of your cheek.
A thick scarf is wrapped around your neck, your chin buried into the red woolly folds, and your hair frames your face,  but he sees the light swelling on the side of your face and around your eyes that you’re trying to hide. The feeling in the pit of his stomach makes his nails press crescents into the palms of his hands, but he fights the urge to ask.
“Beomgyu! What are you doing! They’re coming!” you yell, pulling him back to reality, hearing the sound of your voice at long last calming him a tad.
“Right, sorry.”
You played together straight through into the early hours of the morning, sharing victory after victory, with him right by your side. You froze up when he instinctively pulled you into a hug upon your last win, gulping as he slowly removed his arms, laughing it off as his adrenaline high peaked higher.
The van’s horn blared outside, catching you both off guard. Beomgyu quickly grabbed his coat before making his way back up the way he came, but paused before he opened the door. Craning his head back to look at you once more, he smiled.
“I’ll text you later.”
Tumblr media
12 February 2020, 23:30
Beomgyu’s hands move quickly across the controls, your voice shouting orders to him through the headset as the current game hit it’s climax. Playing with Beomgyu all the time had made you a lot more comfortable with engaging with the other members of your group, so although you were still pretty anxious at first, you made the decision to turn on your mic.
“We did it!” Beomgyu cheered as your team cleared yet another level.
Gaming was something mundane to you and winning was easy; but sneaking out to the PC Room from time to time helped alleviate the pressures of your personal life. The life which you would rather die than share with Beomgyu. But after being swayed by his nonsensical attempts at convincing you, logging onto the server had become your favorite thing to do.
Every victory felt extraordinary when shared with him, and you could have sworn that at that very moment, you could see the way the ends of his eyes creased as the edges of his lips pushed up his cheeks. The way his arms would be stretched up in happiness, as his intoxicating laugher filled the air.
On the other end, Beomgyu leaned back into his desk chair, smiling into the darkness, envisioning the way you’d be pretending it was no big deal whilst your eyes sparkled with happiness and a smile dug into your rosey cheeks.
“Hey, (Y/n)?”
You hummed into the mic, your head rested on the desk and your eyes closed, just listening to his voice, savoring every second of it.
“Do you...have a Valentine or something?”
Tumblr media
14 February 2020, 18:00
From the moment the car pulled up down the street, Beomgyu was unable to take his eyes off from you. His eyes travelled up from the scuffed white sneakers which tapped against the pavement nervously, to the washed out jeans, to the oversized cardigan, which bunched up around the wrists of your hands, which shifted between nervously tucking your hair behind your ears, to pushing your glasses up the bridge of your nose, to straightening out your outfit.
You were going to be the death of him.
He hurried toward you as soon as he saw you shiver. The sound of his soles against the wet concrete caught your attention and you turned in his direction, the look in your eyes nearly resulting in a fatal blow – the way they bewitched nearly had him hitting his head against the sidewalk.
Your hands tightened around the strap of the bag slung around your shoulder as you watched the dark-haired boy make his way down the street to you, a stupidly giddy-looking expression plastered across his face. You couldn’t stop yourself from feeling the way you did about Beomgyu – even though you knew you shouldn’t.
You were never really interested in fan culture, but some of the girls in your cram school were very invested. When you heard them gushing about a group called ‘Tomorrow X Together’ and it’s members the previous afternoon, a knot formed in your stomach. The first thing you did when you got home, was do research. You decided to listen to all of their albums and watch all of their music videos, interviews and content videos. Unsure what to do with all the new-found information and conflicting emotions, you pulled the covers over your head and tried to sleep instead. But you couldn’t.
Beomgyu flicked the side of your head, bringing you back to the present, and your cheeks flushed upon realization of his proximity. He smirked, wrapping his brown scarf around your neck. “It’s still winter you know, Winter. You should dress warmly.”
You clicked your tongue and pouted at his teasing use of your in-game alias, and marched off without him. He trailed behind you, laughing and relieved that you were no longer frowning as you were before. You froze when he caught up with you, feeling the warmth of his hand as it slipped into yours, tucking it into his coat pocket. Burying your face into his scarf, which smelled just like him, you smiled giddily, letting him pull you along with him.
He took you to dinner and the amusement park after that. He was thrilled to know you liked rollercoasters as much as he did and embarrassed to know he couldn’t even beat you at the kid’s games. He ended up going home with a truckload of new plushies, and you, with ever-increasing feelings that you had no idea what to do with.

Beomgyu burst through the doors of the PC Room no longer than 10 minutes after receiving a call from the owner. He still wore his sleepwear, over which his coat was thrown, his hair was disheveled and his bare left foot was stuffed halfway into a sneaker, while his sock-wearing right foot was slipped into a black slipper.
The owner, with worry painted across his features, cocked his head to the desk where the two of you usually sat. His heart ached at the sight of your curled up figure beneath it. Your bloodshot eyes widened when you realized his presence, the surprise enabling him a few seconds to examine you up and down before you turned away from him. Your bottom lip was cut and bruised, your cheek was swollen and bruises were littered across your face and the length of your arms and neck, your hair as messy as his was.
You insisted that you’re okay, even though he took you into his arms without asking anything at all. You insisted that you’re okay, but as his warmth enveloped you, tears began streaming down your face. He felt the way your body trembled in his arms, so he begins rocking you back and forth slowly, pressing soft kisses into your hair, whispering a single phrase over and over again.
“I’m here.”

Due to the pandemic, one of the award show ceremonies the boys were supposed to attend had been cancelled and moved to a later date. Worried that they’d feel disheartened about their performance, you decided to host a little award ceremony of your own. His friends were as welcoming as he was, so you quickly got along- even more so since Beomgyu stuck even closer to you since that day.
“The first award of the evening,” you announced, clearing your throat in the middle of the living room. The boys, who were cheering your on from their seats on the dorm sofa, quieted down as Yeonjun hushed them, gesturing for you to continue, “goes to a very versatile young man. The winner of the ‘Fourth Generation It Boy – In Everything Except Braincells’ Daesang, goes too, you guessed it, Choi Yeonjun!”
The rest erupted in laughter as an exasperated Yeonjun made his way to where you stood, empty wrappers crackling under his feet. He threw a glare at the boys before he bowed before you in the most formal way possible, and you handed him the pretty mediocre, handmade certificate, before enamored laughter spilled from his lips.
Soobin received an award for being the ‘Best Leader of the Greatest Global Shookies’, to which he sighed. Taehyun received the Grand Award ‘The Best Son, Our King, Vocalist Kang’, which the rest labelled unfair and favoritism. Kai received the ‘Gotta Hit That High Note Like-’ award, which he proudly accepted with absolutely no complaints, beaming at the poorly made certificate.
“And last, but not least,” you started, peaking at Beomgyu from the corner of you eyes, determination almost faltering at the sight of his anticipating countenance. Peering down at the clipboard in your hands, you frowned, “well, I guess that’s all we have for tonight, folks-”
The sound of their hearty laughter filled the dorm once again, Yeonjun nearly toppling over the armrest of the sofa. Beomgyu nodded, tongue in cheek, clearly bothered by the whole ordeal. You joined in on the laughter, before glancing back to the clipboard, your heart rate picking up a little.
“Oh, what’s this?” you feigned surprise, “We have two more awards left! To Choi Beomgyu,” you said, pausing to steady your breath, refusing to make eye contact with him, “goes the award for ‘The Most Annoying Amateur Gamer-” laughter once more, Beomgyu joining in this time, “Best Friend and Utterly Talented All-rounder’. And lastly, to Tomorrow X Together for ‘Best Group of All Time’!” you cheered, relieved that they all got up and cheered as well, without teasing you.
Beomgyu took your hand and slipped the certificate from the board. You may have been embarrassed at the self-proclaimed ‘lousy’ attempt at decorating his certificate, but within seconds, that sheet of colored board became the most important thing to him in the world - his most prized possession. He pulled you into a bone-crushing hug, and the rest all joined in without a second to spare, endlessly praising you and expressing their affection as you giggled in response.
Later on that evening, after you left and the others were fast asleep, he laid on his bed, limbs splayed across the comforter. He sighed dreamily up at the ceiling, bringing his hands up to cover the bashful grin playing on his lips. He turned his head ever-so slightly, and peeked through the spaces between his fingers at the certificate perched on his night-stand and sighed again.
What was he going to do with you.

13 March 2020, 20:00
You pushed aside everything that had been happening in your life to be happy on your best friend’s birthday. You were convinced it was the least you could do in return for everything he did for you. Deciding to host something small at the PC Room, the owner was pretty enthusiastic to make a contribution to the happiness of his ‘favourite patrons’, you invited his members and some of his closest friends.
Although Beomgyu would have loved to spend the day with just you, he was extremely grateful to know efforts you had made to make him enjoy his day. You had been chattering away with the owner at the front desk, but somewhere amidst conversation with Taehyun, he had lost sight of you. He frowned, apologizing to Taehyun before excusing himself.
Ready to grab his coat and leave, he stopped in his tracks when the lights were shut off. Slowly, the room was illuminated once more, by the flickering flames atop birthday candles, and the enormous smile across your face as you sang, “happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you,...”
The cake, in the shape of a bear and embellished with chocolate decorations of every variety, was placed on the table in front of where the rest had seated him. Eyes not once leaving you, absolutely entranced by your beauty, Beomgyu gulps, his heart racing a million miles an hour.
“Make a wish, before the wax gets onto the cake, Dummy.”
He pulls his lip between his teeth and flicks the top of your head gently, chuckling softly, before clasping his hands together and closing his eyes. For a reason unknown to him, Beomgyu couldn’t think of something to wish for. No, rather, he knew exactly why he had no idea what to wish for. He opened his eyes once more, and grinned at your anticipating face, the pining in his chest only running deeper and deeper.
He blew out the candles.
“What did you wish for-”
Beomgyu grabbed your hand and pulled you with him as he ran out onto the wet Itaewon streets. You didn’t run too far, before he pulled you into one of the alleyways. Completely lost for words and a little out of breath, you stood there, staring at him. The same puzzled look you had given him when you first met is etched into your face and his lips curl upward. Your breathing hitches as he takes a step closer to you and he pushes the rain-soaked hair from your face, eyes flitting to your lips before meeting your eyes again.
He pulled your chest flush against his and it was quiet for a moment. Quiet, save for the sound of the rain pitter-pattering across the rooftops and the alley floor; quiet, save for the sound of your thumping hearts.
“I love you.”
He feels you tense up, so he tightens his embrace. There is a silence again, and it is a lot less pleasant than the first. The sound of your sniffling alarms him, so he brings your face to meet his, his heart aching at the tears dripping down your face. You start making attempts to break free of his hold, shaking your head and him, whimpers escaping your lips every time you tried to speak.
Tears now streamed down his face too, a piece of him torn away each time you pushed him away. Beomgyu fought desperately to keep you in his arms, but before he knew it, you had slipped right through his fingers.
“I’m sorry.” was the last thing he heard you say through persisting sobs, before you disappeared down the street, without a trace.

Beomgyu smiled before the cameras and press, laughing along with interviewers and staff members like it was the easiest thing in the world.
You had been missing for over three months. You blocked his number. You didn’t log onto the game, someone else had long taken your position on the leader board. After composing himself that day, he had bolted after you, but it was as if you had vanished off the face of the earth. Beomgyu stopped by the PC Room as much as he could in the following days, his condition only worsening each time he did, but due to the growing numbers of positive cases and the increasing amount of work scheduled for him, the time he spent there was limited.
When he did go, he sat in your chair, staring at the front door until he had to leave. The owner, who had been watching him in sympathy, called him up to the desk one day before he left – the last day the owner saw him. He looked sleep-deprived and downcast, the same pained expression drawn into his features every time he left.
“She... came here a lot. I think her first visit was around the time she was in middle school. She never spoke much, and never seemed to have any friends,” The owner told him, looking out to the isles of computers in front of him, before turning back to Beomgyu. “The first time I saw her talk- no, the first time I saw her smile, was with you. She liked you...alot.”
Beomgyu sighed, with a short, hollow chuckle.
“I know.”

The room was empty and dark when Beomgyu finally walked in, eyebrows knitted together as he tried to see through the darkness. He tried calling out for Hyunjin and Jeongin, but the only replies he received was the wind rattling the window-blinds.
The flickering of candles illuminate the room, just like they did many months ago, and Beomgyu’s heart stopped. He tried to not look disappointed when it turned out to be his members with Hyunjin and Jeongin carrying the cake, singing happy birthday to him with the most excited expressions on their faces, but his throbbing chest betrayed him.
They brought the cake up until where he stood and Yeonjun arched a brow, a knowing smirk rolling onto his lips. “You really do have a wild imagination, don’t you? Ow!” he cried, when Beomgyu hit his arm. “Ugh, just make a wish already.”
Beomgyu clasped his hands tightly before him and squeezed his eyes shut, just as he did before. Only this time, he knew exactly what he wanted. The subject of his pining, worry, and love. Her. He would give anything to see her, just one last time.
And when he opened his eyes, that was exactly what he found in front of him.
“Happy Birthday, Choi Beomgyu.”
The lights went back on, and Beomgyu blinked repeatedly, making sure that it wasn’t just his mind playing tricks on him. But there you were, with tears brimming your eyes, in all your glory, the love of his life.
He takes in all the little changes, like your trimmed hair, and that fact that you seemed to have lost weight – which made him frown. And then there was that smile, that dazzling smile, which only seemed to shine brighter now than it did before.
Your hands tremor a bit, the way he just stares at you making your heart leap. “I-I’m sor-”
The cake hit the floor with a plop, eliciting laughter from the others as he wraps his arms around your figure and he reels you into his arms in one swift movement. You feel his tears soak into your blouse, and you hold onto him tighter, your eyes already wet from your own tears. You were finally with him – you were finally home.
The owner gathered everyone together for a photo towards the end of the celebration, Beomgyu following suit wherever you went, refusing to let go of your hand for even a second. You offered him a loving smile when Hyunjin teased him for it, and placed a soft kiss to the back of his hand.
Beomgyu lead you up to the rooftop to see the sunrise, momentarily letting go of your hand to flush your back against his chest, before grabbing hold of it, and the other hand, again. The bright orange and yellow rays peeked from behind the mountain in the distance, and you had never felt more at peace.
You recalled the way your chest tightened and the way tears burned at the corners of your eyes upon receiving his confession a year ago. You had been so happy. So, so happy. But you knew you could not accept him. At the time, you knew that you were in no place to be with someone like him. He was, and is, too wonderful for someone as messed up as you are. You didn’t want burden him with your issues, not when his career had just taken off.
“Beomgyu?” he hummed from where his head against yours, “I love you.”
You stepped away from his embrace, giggling when you noticed the way he pouted. Your turned to face him properly, before attaching your arms around his waist. “Back then... I was in a really bad space. It’s not excuse, and I certainly shouldn’t have run away from you. I...have gotten help ever since, and I want to tell you my story. Would you like to hear it?”
He leaned back and thought for a moment. He then cupped the side of your face with his hand and ran his thumb across your cheek, before pulling you in to press a gentle, lingering kiss to your forehead.
“Whatever you’re willing to share, I will listen to and accept with open arms. I love you for who you are; and that includes everything that has shaped, and will shape you into the amazing person I already know you are.”
“That includes the way you absolutely kick my ass at gaming.”

Life had many pros and cons, but people always preferred to see the bright side of it. As they say one of the best feelings in the world was the feeling you get when you found your soulmate, your other half. You had heard a countless amount of stories about it in your youth. Mainly from your grandmother. But sadly, you were one of the unfortunate souls who couldn’t experience the feeling for too long.
Your sixteenth birthday was supposed to be filled with joy and excitement. But the moment you saw the ink starting to form on your wrist as soon as you blew your candles caused your heart to weigh down in your chest. At that moment, you remembered the feeling of shock and slight disappointment when you realised you had the same soulmate tattoo as Jaemin.
You remembered standing still in the middle of the room, surrounded by your friends and family who eagerly surrounded you to see your new soulmate tattoo as you entered a midlife crisis on the spot. How your mind turned messy with thoughts as your anxiety got the best of you.
‘My tattoo is the same as Jaemin’s. Jaemin is my soulmate?’
‘Oh god, but he doesn’t want to have a soulmate chosen for him. He wants to find his own love and experience the feeling of slowly falling for someone, I can’t possibly take that wish away from him, right?’
‘I’m his best friend, for pete’s sakes! He’s never going to treat me or look at me the same way again.’
‘This is really ironic. Grandma, you really got what you wanted, huh?’
The whole situation was almost laughable to you. Oh how your grandmother would probably be doing somersaults in her place if she was here to witness this miracle. But alas, that moment you just wanted to turn into stone on the spot. You wanted time to stop. You knew very well that there was a possibility that you won’t be experiencing that life changing feeling your grandmother always rambles about.
Though, you had some hope that maybe. Just maybe, Jaemin would be okay with having you as his soulmate. Maybe he would be happy to find out that his childhood best friend, the person who knows him better than his own family, was his soulmate. Maybe life would give you some mercy and decided that Jaemin would change his mind and you would end up living happily ever after.
‘Come on, he would definitely be glad to find out that someone close to him was his soulmate, right?’
‘I know him like the back of my hand, surely he would be ecstatic to see that we have the same soulmate tattoo!’
‘I’m sure of it!’
‘Grandma said that there’s nothing better than the feeling of finding your soulmate’
‘He’s your best friend, he wouldn’t be disappointed to see that you ended up as his soulmate, right?’
‘You’ll still get that feeling of happiness you’ve been longing to feel for so long, right y/n?’
Of course, you were only getting your hopes up.
When you turned to Jaemin, who was peeking over your shoulder at your wrist to see your tattoo, the look on his face was enough to push your hopes down to the floor. You honestly couldn’t decipher what he was feeling. But it definitely wasn’t anything along the lines of happiness.
‘What’s that look for, Jaem?’
‘Surprised? Definitely. Disappointment? Pretty clear. Sadness? Yep, it was there alright. Misery? Despair? Probably.’
You couldn’t show anyone your sadness though, you had to keep a bright smile until the day was over if you didn’t want to worry anyone. When Jaemin’s eyes met yours, he, too, was surprised to see your calm reaction. The sad smile you gave him was enough to silence him for the rest of the party.
It was quite painful when the rest of your friends and family decided to bombard you with questions of who you might think your soulmate could be. Not wanting to make things more awkward, you just tried your best to answer those questions without showing how upset you were with a simple shrug with Jaemin avoiding your eyes for the rest of the day.
At that moment you didn’t know how much pain you’d be in all because of your stupid soulmate mark.
Tumblr media
One of the most hurtful things you’ve ever experienced was watching your friends and relatives find their own soulmates with the look of pure happiness stretched across their faces as you stand there with Jaemin by your side with a smile masking your faces and misery glossing over your eyes.
The one that always stuck to you was that time during Christmas.
It had been a few months since you found out you and Jaemin were soulmates and not much has changed other than your obnoxious flirting and affection towards him. Jaemin had grown less and less affectionate as time passed by. He was no longer attacking you with surprise hugs or giving you cuddles during your movie nights.
You could feel your friendship tearing apart with every step you take, it was hopeless, you didn’t know what to do. You wanted to stop before you ruin your relationship completely, you wanted to stop making things so awkward between you, you wanted everything to stop hurting. You wanted to stop feeling hurt all the time.
But at the same time, you couldn’t. You feared that once you stop, you’ll give up completely and you were scared that maybe if you stopped, you won’t have the courage to talk to Jaemin anymore. You were scared once you stopped you wouldn’t have the energy left to bare with the pain talking to him brought you. You were scared you’d give everything up.
And you were scared if it did happen, you wouldn’t know what to do with yourself anymore.
They say the moments you spend with your soulmate should be one of the best moments of your life. Was the pain you felt all this time really worth it? Isn’t this kind of toxic?
Your friend, Yiren, from another town had come to visit you over the holidays to spend some quality time with you. Your parents allowed her to spend the night at yours for Christmas while her parents finished their business in some other town. At that time, you and your other friends decided to hang out at the mall, asking her to tag along so they could meet her.
Yiren was an out-going person, just like you, therefore she got along very well with most of your friends. But when Chanhee finally arrived at the garden you were supposed to meet up at, you couldn’t help but feel your heart sink when you witnessed such an endearing moment between your two friends.
“Hey guys! I’m so sorry I’m late, my brother needed help closing up the shop!” Chanhee exclaimed, waving as he ran towards you. “You loser, just be grateful you have amazing friends who were willing to buy tickets 3 hours early,” Hyunjin clicked his tongue, slinging an arm around his friend’s shoulder who let out a loud laugh.
“Whatever you say, Hwang Hyunjin.” Chanhee stuck his tongue out teasingly at the boy. “Oh! Chanhee! I got my friend from Busan to tag along with us, I just want her to have more friends here, you don’t mind right?” you asked, slumping down on your seat. “That’s cool, where is she? Actually, where are the other girls?” Chanhee nodded, cocking his head to the side to find the other girls.
“The others went to buy some drinks for us. Don’t worry I made sure to make them order something for you,” Jaemin responded, scrolling through his phone casually. “Why didn’t you join them?” Chanhee asked, turning to you. You let out a wide, nervous smile, letting out small awkward laughs. “She wanted to stick beside me,” Jaemin huffed, trying his best not to roll his eyes out of annoyance.
“Whipped, I see,” he chuckled, watching you cross your arms against your chest before giving him a teasing glare. “You’ll understand once you actually find your soulmate, Chan. I can’t expect you to understand,” you joked in a rather arrogant tone, putting a hand under your chin as you grinned cheekily at your friend.
“It’s not that he doesn’t understands, Y/n. It’s just the fact that you’re really questionable,” Jaemin mumbled under his breath, earning a glare from you. “You two really are a questionable couple,” Hyunjin commented with a laugh. “I swear, my life wouldn’t be this entertaining if it weren’t for the two of you pushing and pulling each other like some kind of weird magnet,” he added with a loud snicker.
You winced internally at his words.
“We’re here!” Nayeon exclaimed in an excited tone, hopping up to you all with plastic bags filled with drinks. “Sorry, the line was so fucking long,” Yiren chuckled, pulling out the drinks from the bag to hand them out. “Nah, it’s fine. We’re not the ones paying after all,” you teased, waving it off.
“Bitch,” Yiren spat at you jokingly, earning a small laugh from your friends. You gingerly grabbed your drink and a straw, stabbing it into the drink before sipping. “Oh! Yiren! Meet Chanhee, he just got here because of business or something,” you squeaked, gesturing to the boy whose head shot up from his drink at the mention of his name.
“What? Me?” Chanhee rambled, stabbing his straw through the lid of his drink.
“Oh, nice to meet you! I’m Yiren, I’m Y/n’s friend from Busan,” she smiled, outstretching her hand to shake his. “Nice to meet you too, I’m Chanhee,” he nodded, shaking her hand before his eyes glanced down to her wrist. His eyes widened, letting out a loud gasp which alerted all of you.
“What? What happened?” Mina exclaimed, turning her head to the couple who were staring at each other with equally flabbergasted expressions. “It’s you! Holy crap, it’s actually you!” she exclaimed, using her free hand to cup her mouth. Chanhee slowly stood up, feeling tears gathering in his eyes.
Everyone was shocked. You let out dramatic gasps, recognizing the loving expressions the two of them had on their faces. No one dared to speak as they let the knowledge sink in, feeling the atmosphere tense up for a brief moment as you watched your two friends stare admiringly and longingly at each other.
“You’re real! What the fuck, you’re real and you’re here!” Chanhee managed to choke out, admiring the tattoo on Yiren’s left wrist that mirrored his own. “Hi soulmate,” she laughed, wrapping her arms around her soulmate who wrapped her in a tight embrace.
Your friends let out loud cheers and squeals at how dramatic their meet-up was, coming forward to congratulate them nonetheless. You couldn’t hold in your excitement for your friend but you couldn’t help but clench your fist tightly by your side, a heavy feeling in your chest piling up once again.
You couldn’t help but feel envious of how happy they looked. The tears in their eyes as they embraced each other so passionately, the bright aura surrounding them. You’ve seen your friends and families do PDA with their own partners but you had never witnessed what finding your soulmate truly looked like. That is, not until now.
Reading strangers’ experiences when meeting their soulmate online was one thing but seeing it first hand in person was a beautiful sight to see. You couldn’t help but turn to Jaemin in your seat, giving him a longing look as you ignored the loud exclaims and cheers of your friend group.
Jaemin’s expression was empty, void of emotion. You couldn’t tell what he was thinking or what he was feeling. Frankly, you didn’t want to know. They say you can see your future with your soulmate if your love was powerful enough. ‘Bull crap, all I see in his eyes is irritation towards me’ you thought with a roll of your eyes.
Jaemin’s eyes met yours, his brow raising at you as if to say ‘what?’
Your eyes widened slightly, taking aback by his sudden gaze, feeling hurt at the fact that he wasn’t fazed at all at the beautiful sight bestowed upon him. The reunion of two soulmates was always something special, it was a priceless moment that they can only share between them.
You felt your enthusiasm waver when you realised you were hoping something that wasn’t going to come. You were clinging on to Jaemin once again in hopes that he would give you the happiness you craved so much from hearing your grandmother’s stories.
When you finally focused back on Jaemin’s now concerned gaze since he noticed you had spaced out and had begun snapping his fingers in front of your face to snap you out of your deep thoughts.
You couldn’t help but smile brightly at him, ignoring the jolting pain blooming in your wrist and in your chest as you stood up from your seat to join in celebration with your friends. The thought of never experiencing the same happiness they’re going to have once they find their soulmates lingering in the back of your mind.
But fortunately for you, keeping a smile stretched across your lips is what you do best.

“Hey, I’m here,” Renjun called out, walking into your door without knocking. Your parents were away for the day and your sad hours were hitting you hard that you called Renjun to help comfort you and accompany you. Renjun knew the door was always unlocked for him to enter immediately without knocking whenever you were sad.
“Thanks for coming,” you smiled weakly, nuzzling closer to your bed sheets as Renjun sat on the bed next to you, dumping a plastic bag filled with snacks right in front of you. “You better pay me back sooner or later,” he joked, pulling out two cartons of milk and handing one to you. “When I don’t feel like shit that is,” you chuckled softly, sticking the straw in the carton as you tossed him the remote.
“What do you want to watch?” he asked, adjusting his position on your pillow as he pressed through the options on your TV screen. “The Office? That drama you’ve been wanting to watch? Or-”
“I’m good with anything, Jun. I just- I’m just glad I’m not alone, right now,” you inhaled deeply, sniffling back your tears as you shook your milk carton. Renjun paused, realising you were on the brink of crying again. He clicked his tongue, his eyes darting from the TV screen to your shaking form trying to maintain calm, debating whether to leave you be or make you talk your feelings out.
“You want to talk about it?”
Renjun obviously decided to choose the latter.
You shrugged, looking down at your milk carton so hopelessly, a hurt expression flossing over your features. “I was just having those dreams again,” you gazed up to keep your tears in. You’ve been having these dreams that you were in a completely alternate universe, that you were happy again, that you were in Jaemin’s arms.
That he was looking at you the way you’ve been looking at him for the past two years.
“Were you reading those soulmate moments again before you went to bed?” he asked with a soft chuckle. You huffed, crossing your arms before sitting up straight against the headboard. “Come on! Let me dream! I might not be able to experience the happiness soulmates share when they’re with each other because I decided to ghost mine completely, but at least I can imagine!” you whined.
“It’s the only thing I can do now that I don’t have any hopes of experiencing romance or love and what not,” you mumbled almost inaudibly, sipping on your milk once again. Renjun bit his lip, knowing full well where this was going if he said the wrong thing. “Well, I-”
“It’s not fair, Renjun.”
“Huh?”
He turned to you, watching you stare at the screen which was playing a trailer of The Umbrella Academy with an expression filled with despair. “I’m stupid for getting this worked up for a boy but he’s my soulmate, I have the right to be upset right? He’s my soulmate, I want to experience the same thing others are experiencing, too. It’s not fair,” you whimpered, crossing your arms tightly against your chest.
“Why does he get to be the selfish one? I’m here getting hurt all the time for his own happiness and he’s probably out there living his best life!” you exclaimed exasperatedly, sniffling back your tears. “It’s not fair, I want to be happy too.” You whimpered, furiously wiping away your tears,
“How did we come to this? I’m human too! I want to be selfish too for once. I want to be able to play with my soulmate’s hair, give them little smooches, have cuddles and movie sessions. I want to go on dates with my soulmate too! And take those aesthetic pictures you see on Pinterest too!”
“Y/n, I-”
“He wanted to find love and experience the feeling of falling in love with someone who wasn’t chosen for him, right? Does that mean I have to watch him fall in love with someone else in front of my own eyes? Oh God, I’m so fucking stupid!” you planted your elbows on your thighs, leaning forward to rub your eyes against your palms to avoid looking into Renjun’s sympathetic ones.
“Two years. Two damn years, that’s how long I spent parading myself around like an idiot hoping that he would like me back when all I did, really, was drive him further and further away! I just thought, maybe it wasn’t those immediate soulmate bonds, you know Jun? The ones that take time and effort. But it’s been two damn years. Once again, I’m just fooling myself with something that wasn’t there! I just want it to stop hurting!”
“Y/n stop, your wrist is glowing again-”
“I was so stupid, Renjun. So, so fucking stupid. All this time I knew that I was making the both of us uncomfortable, yet I still kept on going and I still kept on pestering him even if he told me to stop. Maybe I’m the selfish one?” you felt your bottom lip quiver as your scattered mind grew messier with every passing second.
“Why did I trick myself into thinking that maybe one day he would feel the same feelings I’m feeling? I’ve always known he won’t ever love me back. So why did I create false hope? Was that selfish of me to want someone to love and someone to love me back?”
“No, y/n, you’re not selfish.”
“Renjun. My own soulmate doesn’t love me. My own fucking soulmate doesn’t love me. I’m going to be alone forever. I hate being alone. I hate it so much. I hate this so damn much,” your whole body shook harshly with every sob you let out but Renjun couldn’t help but respond with a soft, “you won’t be alone, y/n.”
“The worst part is I told myself for so long that I’ll be okay if it happens. I’ll be fine with watching him happy without me. But the more I think about it, the more selfish I felt. I don’t want to see him fall in love with someone else and be happy with someone else, Jun. I’m so stupid, Why did I ever thought I’d be okay with it when I’m clearly not okay now!”
“Y/n, no, you’re not stupid. Don’t you dare say something like that about yourself.” Renjun pulled you away from the ball you were curling into, making you lean against his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around your back tightly, stroking your head and rubbing your back as he tried to calm down your soft cries.
“You’re not stupid, y/n. You’re really not,” he said in the softest tone he could muster.
“Renjun. I have a soulmate who doesn’t even fucking want me. If my own soulmate doesn’t want me then who else will? You all always see how he looks at me right? He hates me, he doesn’t even like me. Not one bit.” At this point, you were trying to focus on your breathing, wiping your nose and tears away with the fabric of your shirt.
Your grip on your bedsheets tightened when your heart ached even more. Your heart was screaming and pleading in your chest, crying out for something it can’t have. And all you can do to comfort it was to cry it all out.
Renjun sat there, rubbing your back and stroking your head as he whispered soft hushes, trying to reassure you your worth as you mumbled incoherent sobs, single syllables and broken words against his shoulder. You were hurting so much that you didn’t know if you should stop crying or let it all out to satisfy the pain in your chest.
But sure enough, Renjun held you there until you couldn’t cry anymore.

“Hey, I told you, you don’t have to give me chocolates anymore. My mom’s going to kill me if I have another sore throat,” you chuckled, pulling up the thin chocolate bar from your locker. Your friend, Nayeon, turned to you with furrowed brows, eyes filled with confusion. “Excuse you, I didn’t give you any chocolates this week,” she responded, pulling out her textbook.
You let out a small ‘huh?’ at her, trying to see if she was lying. Nayeon always gave you half of her lifetime supply of chocolates that she always receives from her soulmate because she wanted to go on a diet and she didn’t want to waste the delicious treats. “He found out I was on a diet and stopped giving me chocolates for the time being. Also, it’s my cheat day today!” she exclaimed, pulling out a chocolate bar similar to yours from her pocket.
“So no chocolates for you,” she waved the chocolate bar in your face jokingly, causing you to chuckle. “Well okay, Nayeon. But if you didn’t give me the chocolate, then who did?” you asked, furrowing your brows at the treat in your hand. “Dumbass, there’s a note behind it,” Nayeon reached over and flipped the candy over, revealing a small yellow sticky note attached to it.
‘I hope you have a great day!
- you know who’
The handwriting gave it away. It was way too obvious, you’ve seen that handwriting more than you could count. There was no doubt in your mind that this was indeed Jaemin’s handwriting. You chuckled when your mind recalled the time Jaemin kept giving you chocolate bars from his mother’s private stock whenever you were upset back when you were still kids. But how could he still remember your favorite chocolate brand? It was quite sweet but unexpected at the same time.
“’I hope you have a great day’, that’s so bland. Sounds like something moms would write on a piece of paper in their kid’s lunch boxes,” your friend commented with a small snicker, pointing at the note attached to the chocolate bar. “This sounds like some weird stalker-ish movie prompt,” she added with a teasing tone, nudging your shoulder. You forced out a small laugh to hide your discomfort.
“Do you really have to say it like that, though? I’d say this might just be someone’s weird prank?” you raised your brow, trying not to give away the fact that you know full well who this chocolate bar is from. “Come on, aren’t you suppose to be the prankster in this situation, y/n?” she giggled, waving her hand off to say she was joking.
“Nonetheless-Ooh! An admirer! Sadly, you’re too whipped for Jaemin to give this fellow a chance,” Nayeon gushed, snatching the chocolate bar out of your palms to inspect the note even further. “It even says ‘you know who’. I’m fully convinced that a Potterhead wrote this, I mean, it’s cute. But do they really have to include ‘you know who’? This isn’t Harry Potter, they ain’t Voldemort,” Nayeon rambled, causing you to giggle in response.
“Shut up,” you mumbled, suppressing the heavy feeling inside of your chest. Nayeon giggled, smacking your shoulder gently as she handed you the chocolate bar back. “I’m just kidding you! So, do you know this supposed admirer?” she asked with a small hum, oblivious to the sadness that had glossed over your pupils.
“Yeah, definitely.” You replied shortly, kissing your lips as you nodded. Her head shot up at you, eyes widening in surprise. “Oh! So are you going to do anything about it? I mean, you found your soulmate already as far as I know but are you going to do anything?” she asked, cocking her head to the side a bit in wonder. You sighed, putting the chocolate in the pocket of your backpack before shaking your head with a small smile.
“No, I’m not,” you replied, walking alongside her to your next class. “I don’t really want to think about it too much, I mean, it’s just a bar of chocolate, right?”
‘The ones I used to receive from him back when we were still in middle school that is, you thought with a heavy heart. You clenched your fists by your side, mustering up the energy you have in your system to put on your usual bright smile. “Anyways, what were you saying about Mr Seong earlier?”
When you said you didn’t want to think about it too much, obviously you were lying and you thought about it way too much all throughout math class till lunch. As you were doing the assignment your teacher gave you, you couldn’t help but remember the kiss you two shared at the party. Your chest fluttered at the seemingly distant memory
You paused, putting your pen down next to your notebook, propping your elbows on the table before rubbing your face in distress, the tips of your fingers coming up to rub your temples with a heavy sigh. ‘God, I need a damn vacation after all this,’ you thought, putting your arms down as you continued on with your work.
‘The tables really have turned, huh?’
You glanced at the small sticky note attached to the chocolate bar which was now hidden in your pencil case. You let out a silent chuckle, flipping your pen in between your fingers as you stare down at your paper. ‘It hurts,’ you thought, taking a small glimpse at your left wrist. The white bandage that wrapped around your wrist peeking out under the fabric of your sweater.
‘It hurt,’ you bit your lip, darting your eyes back at your paper filled with equations. As you started to continue with your work, your mind wandered to the weekend after the party.
You remembered waking up early in the comforts of your own bed sheets, still in the clothes you wore the night before. Your headache causes you to groan against your pillows when you felt like vomiting your stomach out. Apparently, Renjun had magically snuck you in your own home in the middle of the night by using the spare key you had in your pocket.
How he managed to sneak into your house and get into your room and out without waking your parents was a whole mystery to you. But you couldn’t care less when the events of the previous night overwhelmed your thoughts, resulting in you having a mini mental breakdown in your bathroom when you decided to take a shower.
You and Jaemin kissed! You and Jaemin fucking kissed!
What the actual fuck?!
At the time, you couldn’t help but touch your own lips with the tips of your fingers, giggling softly at the fond memory, feeling butterflies swarm your stomach. Collapsing on the mattress of your bed, snuggling against the pillows as you couldn’t hide the giddy feeling spilling from inside of you. But your little giggle session didn’t last long when your mind finally remembered the full events.
You had a mental breakdown- no, you had a whole panic attack in front of your own soulmate. Jaemin just did what any other male protagonist in a cliche romance movie would do, which was kiss their love interest. You are his soulmate after all. They say one of the most comforting things in the world will always be the first kiss you ever shared with your soulmate.
They say a lot of things, if you think about it.
What if Jaemin knew that and kissed you just to make you feel better? What if he did it out of pure sympathy? Jaemin was someone who would do anything to make someone’s pain go away, even if he had to share the pain to take it away. You sighed at the thought, remembering how he snapped at you at the dinner party. Or did he just kiss you because you appeared too pathetic in front of him?
‘I forgot, he’d gladly do anything for the people he loved. I’ll never be in that category. Not anymore,’ you thought to yourself bitterly as you hugged your pillow to your chest.
But then again, why did he kiss you? He was the one who initiated the kiss, right?
Right?
‘Stop trying to give yourself hope, unless you want to get hurt again you might as well go back to being a simp’
You snapped out of your thoughts with a click of your tongue, chuckling to yourself. ‘God dammit, y/n, you’re out of the soulmate game now. The universe really said ‘you’re never going to be happy with your soulmate, ever!’ in the most dramatical way possible. You have fallen out of God’s favor a long long time ago.’
You shook your head in disappointment before adverting your eyes back down to finish your paper.
‘You were dreaming too far.’
Tumblr media
“Alright class. For those who haven’t finished their work, you can do them at home and give them to my next week,” your teacher announced as he puts his papers in between the pages of his book. The class groaned, the sounds of chairs grinding against the tile floor pierced your hearing as people started packing up their things.
You rubbed your eyes in distress, putting your paper in between the pages of your textbook, shoving it straight in your bag carelessly and walking out of the classroom with a heavy sigh. Gripping the saddle of your bag with one hand and the chocolate bar in your other as you make your way to the cafeteria.
As you entered the crowded place, you spotted a few of your friends sitting at a table nearby at the corner of your eye. Sending them a smile and a small wave you turned your head to scan the room in an attempt to find the table Jaemin was sitting at.
You quickly walked to his table, feeling your heartbeat quicken in your chest with every step you take. Jeno was the first one who caught you walking towards their table as Jaemin had his back turned to you. Raising his brow in confusion as you waved at him with a sheepish smile.
“Jaemin, is that-”
When Jaemin turned around, his eyes widened to see you standing right in front of him that he almost choked on his cookie. “Hey, uh-” you spoke, taking a breath to calm your nerves before placing the chocolate bar right beside him. “I don’t want to be rude or anything but I just want to return this,” you smiled, trying to ignore the eyes of his teammates boring holes into your figure.
“I’ll see you guys around, I guess,” you shrugged, turning around and whipping your phone out to advert your mind as you exited the cafeteria. You knew Jaemin was going to chase after you when you heard the sound of his friends calling his name which caused you to walk faster to the exit, jogging when you finally got out of the cafeteria.
“Y/n!” Jaemin called out, running after you.
You sighed, stopping in your step before turning to him with an exhausted expression. “What is it, Jaemin?” you asked, exhaustion lacing your tone. You haven’t spoken to him since that night at the party and you’ve been avoiding him like the plague since then. And frankly, you really don’t want to talk to him about it.
“This is yours,” Jaemin said, his breathing hitched as he outstretched his hand towards you to hand you back the chocolate. “No, Jaemin. I really don’t want to,” you shook your head, a frown stretched across your lips. “It’s a present, is it not? You have to accept it,” Jaemin raised his brow at you, attempting to take your hand but you quickly jerked it back to your side.
Jaemin couldn’t help but wince at the small action. “Y/n, you said it yourself once, right? ‘You can’t reject a gift from someone else, that’s rude and unappreciative’” He quoted, causing your eyes to widen slightly. “Jaemin, you know very well I only said that to make you accept my gifts,” you frowned, wincing at how hypocritical you sounded.
But still, he did not just use the same tactic you used back when you were still bugging him. Not when he whined and complained so much to his friends whenever you weren’t around afterwards.
“I still have the right to refuse your gift, Jaemin,” you frowned, slipping your hand in your pockets. He sighed exasperatedly, “fine, can we at least talk? About that night at the party? Please?” he pleaded, sending you his irresistible puppy eyes in an attempt to get you to say yes.
You bit your lip, feeling your heartbeat increase at the action, butterflies swarming your stomach as you feel yourself turn into mush under his eyes. But alas, your mind couldn’t help but have flashbacks to the party. The heavy feeling in your chest that made it hard to breathe. The burning in your wrist that made you want to chop your own arm off.
Everything that happened between you two was nothing but a mess.
In your eyes, there was nothing else to talk about. It is best if you two go your separate ways, right?
“There’s literally nothing to talk about, Jaemin,” you deadpanned, gripping the saddle of your bag tightly to keep your emotions intact when you feel a lump starting to build up in your throat. “I don’t understand why you want to talk about this so much,” you sighed, shaking your head as you ran a hand through your hair.
“If you have nothing to say, it’s fine. Then just let me talk,” Jaemin sighed, running a hand through his hair in distress. “Just hear me out, okay?” he said in an almost pleading tone, his lips forming a pout as his puppy eyes bore into yours. You took this chance to examine his features.
As creepy as it sounds, you missed seeing his face. He looks tired. So tired. Dark bags under his eyes, his pink lips forming a small pout as he waited for your response. You furrowed your brows, biting the inside of your cheek for letting out a breath you didn’t know you were holding back.
“I really don’t have time for this. I just came to give you back your chocolate, “ you lied through your teeth. If you didn’t have time, then why did you decide to give him back the chocolate when you have been avoiding him? Maybe deep down, you just want to see him again? Maybe you just wanted an excuse to talk to him?
You didn’t know yourself. Why were you talking to him knowing full well it’s just going to bring you pain again?
You gave him a small, weak smile. “I need to go Jaemin. The bell’s about to ring soon and I need to get my notes from Renjun before Chemistry,” you sighed, biting your tongue to keep yourself from saying anything else that would make the atmosphere more tense than it already was.
“I’ll see you around.”
You missed him, but you also want it to stop hurting.

---------------------------
Most people couldn't wait to meet their soulmate. The one person who would change not only your life, but your eyes.
Everyone was born with two different colored eyes, they say those colors determined your childhood. Overall they generalized the colors; Blues usually meant they were inspired kids, inspiring themselves and others to do great things. Green meant they had luck on their side. Brown had resilient personalities, bringing a sense of dependability to others. Purples were very independent and creative. Grays had a sophistication that most children lacked. And so on and so forth. By the time you reached middle school everyone knew what their exact eye colors meant, and some say it predicted how you would find someone.
Eyes however didn't remain two separate colors your whole life. Once you met your soulmate they changed almost in an instant, color shifting for a few seconds until your eye color perfectly matched that of your mates. Some say time seemed to stop once they noticed their mates' eyes changing, but one thing was for sure no one felt their eyes change color, the only thing they usually felt was their heart speeding up.
You originally couldn't wait to find your soul mate. You got caught up in the feeling of it all. You believed he would be everything you wanted and more. During your teens it's all you dreamed about, how you'd meet in some perfect way, how he would sweep you off your feet. However the past few years had made you bitter, watching friend after friend find their mate leaving you in the dust.
"You'll be the same when you find your mate" they would say as you grimaced as they would kiss and cuddle in front of you. Most of those so called friends never invited you to things anymore, because you couldn't relate because you didn't have someone. They said it was because they didn't want you to feel like the third wheel, but mostly you knew it's because they pitied you for not having someone. "It's a shame you don't have anyone, I hope he's still around somewhere"
You were starting to feel like you had some sort of disease, because that's how you were treated by those 'friends'.
Things only felt worse as you stared at the flyer someone slid under your door.

Hyunjin pov
"Mandatory masquerade spring formal." He read as he lifted the flyer from the pile of mail next to his door. Hyunjin hated these mandatory regional events. At least this one was just a formal instead of a full costume ball, like the last one. The large cities throw these balls, three times a year. Anyone over the age of 20, who hadn't found their soulmate was required to go. This would be his third ball, he hoped it would be his last. Sure he wanted to meet his soulmate, but mostly he wanted all the girls who came to these things to stop throwing themselves at him, staring at his eyes hoping to see a change. Most would find it flattering, in fact Hyunjin did back in high-school he always loved the attention. Curious which girl would try during lunch that day. Now it was getting old, he wanted someone who truly saw his soul, not just his good looks.
Hyunjin sighed as he looked at himself in the floor length mirror, black suit pants, navy silk long sleeve button up with the top three buttons undone. A dark night sky scene was painted on the mask that rested on his nose. His long dark hair pulled away from his face. His eyes unchanged, still two different colors. One burnt umber, the other ocean blue.
He was curious of what color his eyes would change to once he met his soulmate, he heard it depends on how and when they meet.
For instance, his dad had similar eye colors to his before he met mom. They met on a stormy day, each on their way their jobs enjoying the rain. They met while dancing out in the light spring shower while waiting at a crosswalk. Now his parents both had beautiful bright gray eyes, the same color as the storm clouds as they parted for the sun that day.
Would his eyes turn the Navy he had chosen for this dance if he met her tonight? He sighed to himself, shaking his head slightly as he grabbed his things and left his apartment.
--
Reader pov.
At least the food they provided at these mandatory balls was delicious, it seemed the only incentive that was worth the trouble of being here. The numerous hors d'oeuvres were delicious, and you had a plate full of all the different types to make sure they still tasted delicious.
Truthfully you hated being here. You had been to too many of these things to count. At this point you wondered if your soulmate was dead, or lost somewhere. Simply because you hadn't met him yet, and it felt as if time was ticking. Maybe that's because your friends all found their mates within the year you all turned twenty. Now here you were five years later, still with miss matched eyes. One pewter gray, one lavender.
You wore the same dress you always did to these balls. At first it made you feel amazing, like a princess. Now it only brought you bitterness. The purple satin that faded to blue, a galaxy made of glitter across the bodice. The mask on your face was silver, making your eyes seem to shine.
"You look bored" a familiar voice got your attention, as he sat at the empty table next to you. Dressed in all black as he usually was. Looking devilishly handsome as always.
"Chan, I'm always bored at these things. You're the only one who talks to me" you sighed leaning on the table as you looked towards him.
Chan was a god send at these things. He became your friend a few years ago, during one of these balls. His dimples made every girl swoon, it was the first thing you noticed about him, but what made you stay was the wonderful caring conversation that was so rare at these things. He actually wanted friends, not just a soulmate. He was truly a social butterfly.
"Maybe if you leave the table, and stop glaring at anyone who approaches, someone might talk to you." His mischievous eyes of emerald green and royal purple danced beneath his black mask, as he stole some hors d'oeuvres off your plate. Popping one into his mouth.
"Shut up Chan, not all of us are as charming as you!" you playfully hit his arm. He gasped softly and grabbed his arm in fake pain.
"I'm sure you could be somewhat charming. That is, if you took the "F off" stamp off your forehead." he teased making a face at you.
"Very funny" Rolling your eyes, looking back towards your plate of food, then towards the dance floor which was filled with eager young people, all dancing and talking. Switching partners every song or so. You watched as one couple suddenly stopped dancing, their eyes growing large. She squealed, jumping up and down as he hugged her. Another happy couple, another soulmate found.
You wanted to vomit.
"I want to know how neither of us have found our match, we've both been too far too many of these." You groaned, sliding down in your chair. Not caring how unladylike it was. You glanced towards Chan, who was just enjoying watching everyone.
"I suspect my match is elsewhere" his words wise, his eyes looking towards the newest happy couple fondly. "I think they might be at one of these in their own region"
"She probably is cursing your name right now, wondering why you are taking so long to find her." you started.
"Like you are cursing yours right now?" You wanted to smack that smirk off his face.
"Chan you can be infuriating." You stood, smoothing out your skirt. Chan chuckled following you. Knowing you wanted some fresh air.
"Maybe you don't want to crash the next regional dance with me." he nudged you as you both walked around the main crowd, towards the large outdoor balcony.
"Now that is a good idea, I didn't think you had any of those left" you looked towards him with a shocked expression. Your foot caught on something, then someone's body bumped into yours.
That's when you ended up flat on your back, your mask slightly askew.
The music seemed to stop. In fact it had. You looked at your converse clad feet which were tangled in the electrical cords from the DJ booth. Chan was laughing. The DJ scrambled from the booth to fix the electrical situation. You shifted, untangling yourself best as possible from the cords. Muttering a slight apology to the frazzled dark haired man, as he gathered the cords quickly.
"I'm so sorry!" A new voice said as he stumbled to his feet beside you. His navy shirt hanging loosely around him. "I wasn't even looking where I was going," he said, dusting himself off. Then looking at you, and offering a hand.
"It's my fault too, I wasn't looking." You said taking his hand, to help you to your feet. Then glaring at Chan who was beside himself with fits of laughter. "I was too busy chiding my friend" you gestured towards Chan, shaking your head.
"My name is Hyunjin" the handsome man smiled, his mask shimmered as the little iridescent stars caught light.
"Y/N " you said with a slight bow, fixing your mask.
"It's nice to meet you, I haven't seen you here before." he smiled, he was ridiculously attractive.
"Well she's been here, forever" Chan exaggerated as he leaned on your shoulder. You shoved him away.
"Shut up Chan."
"Well you have!" He put his hand up in mock defense.
"I'm so done with you!" You walked away, then turned to Hyunjin and gave a quick wave. He gave a small nod, as a girl approached him tapping him on the shoulder.
You took that as your queue to leave. You felt so done with everything, still hadn't felt that spark everyone gushed about. You felt slightly embarrassed about cutting the music with your own clumsy feet. You made a fool of yourself thanks to Chan, you just knew you needed out.
When you got home you were exhausted, and changed out of your gown, and quickly washed your face then just went to bed.
------
Hyunjin
Hyunjin nodded, as the strange but cute girl practically ran away. Feeling a small tap on his shoulder his attention was brought to a girl in a pink poofy ball gown. The music was starting up again, he knew she was going to ask him to dance. Why had he come in from the balcony?
"So I've been watching you all night. And…." Her eyes widened. "What color are my eyes?" She asked quickly, her words stumbling out of her mouth.
"Um.." Hyunjin cocked his brows as he looked closer, kind of confused. "Dark blue, and light green?"
Her face fell, then he saw multiple emotions flash over her face, ending in anger.
"Why are you here if you already have a soulmate? Shouldn't you be with them!" She practically yelled. Hyunjin was confused, as the girl slapped his arm and ran away. What a strange turn of events. First he ran into that girl, Y/n? Now he just got some weird girl thinking he had a soulmate, these balls got worse every time, maybe he would call it a night.
He went to the bathroom, still bewildered by the weird situation that just happened. As he took off his mask he looked in the mirror.
"What the hell?!" He yelled at his reflection, leaning on the counter, getting closer to the mirror. Both ofHis eyes a bright flaming orange. He felt as if he was looking at a campfire in his eyes. His mind started reeling. How had he met his soulmate? He had barely talked to anyone all night, he had hid on the balcony outside for the first hour of this thing, just eating the hors d'oeuvres that were provided. He then came inside to try to make the night worthwhile, and while looking at the decorated ballroom, he ran into someone, literally. That's when it clicked, the girl he literally ran into, it had to be her. She was the only one he talked to!
"Y/N, I've got to find Y/N!" He grabbed his mask and ran out of the bathroom.
Two hours of searching later, Hyunjin sat defeated at a random table. He sat his mask down and slumped in the chair, as he watched happy couples in pairs all around the room. That's what was supposed to be happening to him right now, staring into his soul mates eyes, dancing the night away without a care in the world.
Who had ever heard of a soulmate who didn't know. A soulmate who didn't say anything. These stupid masks, they cover up half your face, distorting the eyes. The dark room. How did they expect people to see the change with those factors?
He always heard that when you saw the change and knew, but he hadn't seen her eyes change, plus she ran off so quickly. Maybe he should've gone after her. No, that would've been creepy, plus he didn't know at the time.
What was he supposed to do? He wasn't even sure exactly what she looked like. That's when he saw his chance. He swears that's Y/Ns friend from earlier, in the all black and black mask talking to the DJ right now. Hyunjin quickly stood and bee lined towards the man in black.
"Excuse me, your Chan right?" Hyunjin said, approaching him.
"Yes, and you're Hyunjin?" The man smiled, as Hyunjin nodded. Chan resumed watching the people on the dance floor in front of him.
"Yeah, I, uh, ran into your friend Y/N earlier" Hyunjin rubbed the back of his neck.
"Yeah you did, quite literally." he chuckled, side eying and gently elbowing Hyunjin.
"Well that's the thing. I kind of need to find her."
"Did she break your phone or something?" He asked.
"No, she's kind of my soulmate." Hyunjin blurted.
"What?" Chan choked on air, as his eyes bugged out. He turned and grabbed Hyunjin's shoulders, looking him straight in the eye, the corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he saw the orange in his eyes.
"She's the first one I talked to tonight at this stupid thing. After hiding on the balcony. I didn't even know it happened til another girl started to flirt with me." Hyunjin now turned his attention to the dance floor.
"I'm sorry to tell you, but she's long gone." Hyunjin felt a comforting hand on his shoulder.
"I figured, since I've been looking for her for over two hours" he heard the other male grimace on his behalf.
"So I was wondering if you could help me out. All I know about her is her first name." Hyunjin looked towards his shoes, trying to distract himself with the nice polished shine.
"Well I could help," Chan smirked and Hyunjins head snapped up looking at him, "but I'm not sure I owe Y/N the courtesy of helping her out." Chans mischievous two toned eyes shone playfully.
"I thought she was your friend" Hyunjin was slightly confused, yet again this evening.
"Oh she is, she just owes me after bailing on me tonight." He looked at his phone. "And being as I have no messages from her freaking out. I bet she didn't even notice before she went to sleep"
They exchanged information, Chan excited to be in the middle of this. Curious of how you would react in the morning. Promising Hyunjin to keep him informed.

Your pov
The blaring alarm on your phone made you groan, you silenced it and rolled back over. Some days you wish you didn't have to work, but being a manager over editing on the largest magazine in the city meant you couldn't miss work. Yet you still fell back asleep.
When your alarm went off to tell you it was time to leave you woke up in a panic. You quickly showered and dressed, grabbing some breakfast then you were out the door, not even bothering with makeup as you were going to be late.
"Oh my gosh! Tell me everything!" Joy, your second in command gushed as you entered the office.
"Nothing out of the ordinary at those stupid balls. Food again was the only reason to attend" you muttered as you set your things down on your desk, and plopped in your chair.
"Obviously that's a lie! Now tell me what really happened!" Joy pestered. Her vivid seafoam green eyes, staring you down. She found her soulmate just after she started working with you, but she always wanted to gossip and talk about those meeting their matches. It intrigued her for some reason.
"I told you everything. I went ate food, watched all the stupid romantic couples, headed outside. Tripped on the cords for the DJ booth then left." You huffed, leaning back. She put her hands on your chair making you face her. You cocked your eyebrows at her.
"You don't know? How can you not know" Her words confusing, and accusing.
"Joy, what are you talking about?" You groaned. She then dug in her purse bringing out her compact.
"I know I didn't do my makeup today."
"Just look in the mirror"
"But-"
"Just look in the mirror Y/N" you grabbed the compact from her hand and looked at yourself, trying to see what she was talking about. Nothing seemed out of place, you didn't have any bruises from the collision last night. You went to close the mirror when you glimpsed orange. You immediately pulled it back to your face. Eyes wide.
"I…. What?" Your words lost and confused.
"Now tell me about him!" She sat on the edge of your desk looking at you.
"I only talked to Chan last night. And we both know he isn't my match" you sat staring at the mirror in your hand. Going through everything that happened, you grabbed your phone. Quickly texting Chan.
--What color are your eyes???
you hadn't heard of knowing someone for years before they became a soulmate but you had to ask.
"Well you had to have met someone new" she nudged your leg.
"That's the thing, I don't remember talking to anyone else. Just Chan annoying me, then-" the sudden realization hit you. "I ran into someone, literally"
"Of course that's how you would meet your match" she nodded. "You are kind of clumsy"
"Oh hush!" You pushed her slightly, she just laughed.
"So tell me about him"
"Um, he was handsome? I think his name was Hajun? No, Hyunwoo? I don't remember. I was a little frazzled last night. Plus we only talked for a second after we both ended up on the floor" you muttered, leaning back in your chair again looking at the ceiling. When your phone buzzed.
-why are yours perhaps a different color
-say orange? 😏
--Well I never expected you to be my soulmate after all this time….
- what are you going on about? My eyes are still a perfect green and purple.
--Chan what do you know...
- Far more than you think
--Chan tell me! Did you talk to Hyunwoo?
-I don't know a Hyunwoo.
-do you perhaps mean Hyunjin?
-- YES! Hyunjin! Are his eyes also orange
-- dumb question
--you told me orange before I told you what color my eyes are.
-this is actually very entertaining
- you're over thinking everything aren't you.
-- Shut up Chan!
-- Do you have his info
- Maybe, but you told me to shut up so I will!
--Chan! No!
-- Please!
--I'm sorry. I'll make it up to you! I need his number.
- Only if you do something for me
-- I don't like where this is going...
- you never do.
- dinner 6 pm tonight, at Ombu downtown.
- be there and I might give you what you want after you pay for dinner.
-- You only like me for my money
- I have more money than you!
--So you say, but I always pay.
- just meet me at 6.
"So Chan knows who it is, but won't give me his information" you said looking at Joy who was now actually working at her desk. Like you should be.
"Typical Chan, let me guess. Making you buy him dinner in exchange for the information." You nodded. "I swear whoever his soulmate is better cook well, he will do anything in exchange for food" she shook her head.
Work was over soon enough, and so you changed into jeans and a blouse, did a small amount of makeup and headed downtown. Ombu was your typical spot to go with Chan. Delicious Korean barbecue, their meat selections far better than the other places around. Which is why Chan always insisted on going there.
"Welcome, Y/N! Chan is already waiting for you" Rose the usual hostess said guiding you towards your usual back corner booth, Chan loved this booth, he could people watch and it had the best hot plate.
"Thanks Rose!" You say as she motions towards the table. Your eyes grew as you looked at the table. Not only seeing Chan, but you couldn't stop staring at the orange eyed man next to him. "Hyunjin, right?" You said softly as you took your seat, he nodded a smile came across his face as he stared at you.
You finally started to understand why those couples would just stare into one another's eyes. His eyes were intriguing, bringing you a sense of peace. His eyes looked like the flames of the comforting campfires you enjoyed so much as a child. You almost wanted to just curl up and look in his eyes forever.
"Well, now I can see this is going to be awkward. So I'm just going to order food to get the dinner started" Chan said. You hadn't even realized the waiter had come to the table to take your order.
"Sorry" you and Hyunjin muttered at the same time. Followed by nervous giggles.
"I wasn't expecting to see you tonight," you said to Hyunjin. "Chan wanted dinner in exchange for your information. I didn't think he would bring you"
"Well, I asked him to keep me informed last night, after I couldn't find you. So once he told me you guys were getting dinner I wouldn't let him tell me no" his hand drifted towards yours on the table.
"So you're persistent," you noted.
"Very." He smirked moving closer.
"Look, guys I want dinner. Can't you guys make heart eyes at each other afterwards. I just want to eat. And if this continues, you guys are going to make me sick." Chan groaned.
"I'll try to behave," you said as you reached towards Hyunjins hand, taking it in yours.
"You don't know how to behave." Chan teased. You just rolled your eyes, shaking your head. You usually would say something back, but you were slightly distracted by the soft circles being drawn by Hyunjins thumb on the back of your hand.
Two weeks later you sat in Hyunjins apartment. Cuddling as you watched an action comedy. Your head resting on his chest as his arm draped around you. You started to get to know your match well. You found out he worked at the large musical academy. He taught dance, and music history. He was doing quite well for himself, he had a nice place, a car, and was decently responsible with his money.
Hyunjin was your soulmate, your match. Aside from that first night at ombu with Chan; the two of you did your best not to be disgustingly cute in front of those who didn't have their match yet. Such as his roommate Han, who usually ended up joining the two of you for movie nights.
Truthfully life was good, you felt less bitter about it all. Of course it wasn't perfect, and you still had a lot to learn about the other, but this was what you needed. You needed someone who was whole, who had a kind heart and soul. And that was what you got, it was just a perk that he was ridiculously attractive.
Hyunjin was grateful to have finally found you too. He didn't mind being younger. He loved your caring heart, protected by its sarcastic shell. He couldn't believe he met someone who already had so much drive and compassion. He loved your playful banter with his friends, he was grateful you accepted his friends and did your best to make them comfortable. Plus he couldn't ever take his eyes off of you. In his mind you were perfect in every way, despite the flaws you insisted you had.
He felt lucky being the first of his friends to find his match.

Reacting To their S/O being Brazilian
Masterlist
...
Bang Chan
Tumblr media
- Bang Chan travelled to Brazil with you on vacation, excited to meet some of your family and embrace the culture.
- He soon noticed the beautiful land below him, his eyes sparkled in pure excitement and curiosity.
- You secretly planned the vacation in mid June, so he could celebrate Festa Junina with you.
- Your mind raced with all of the cute date ideas and clothes you should buy for Festa Junina, not noticing Chan wrap his arms around you.
"Eu te amo muito. (I love you so much) " He whispered, before pressing cute kisses across your shoulders.
You gasped softly, "Where'd you learn that?" surprised to hear his perfect accent along with the sweet sentence. Instead of getting a real answer, he just smirked with a sly shrug of his broad shoulders.
Lee Know
Tumblr media
- While getting ready for Halloween, you got a call from your annoying best friend. Sighing at her immediately harsh tone.
- Minho giggled softly at your constant eye rolls and mocking tones, knowing that she must be nagging you for something stupid.
- Her tone raised, not even needing to put her on speaker mode due to her booming voice that seemed aggravated.
- Even though he barely knew what she was saying to you at the moment, he could tell it was getting on your last nerve by the way your sparkly eyes turned dull and tired.
"Escuta aqui vadia. (listen here bitch)" You retorted, pointing harshly at the air as if she were right in front of you. Minho was always amused by your annoyed side of things.
You ended up hanging up on her with a loud sigh, "Is she in a bad mood?" he asked, already knowing your answer to his question. Adjusting his position on the couch and patting the spot next to him.
Changbin
Tumblr media
- Last Wednesday Changbin made a tradition Korean dish for supper, and bought some fish shaped buns for dessert.
- But this Wednesday was your turn to make supper, and you wanted introduce him to Feijoada whish is a brazilian tradition.
- You carefully spread the dark beans across the clean plate, the mixes of spices made the dorm rooms smell like heaven.
- Before you could surprise him with the amazing dinner, you felt small kisses glide across your neck. Making you nearly drop one of the full plates.
"Você me assustou! (You scared me!)" you gasped, lightly smacking his arm. He giggled cutely, sneakily stealing Ken of the plates from behind you.
"Minho told me what you made." He sighed, bopping your scrunched nose. Bursting into another fit of laughter, when you left the kitchen to chase after a smirking Minho. Stealing an piece of meat from your plate.
Hyunjin
Tumblr media
-Will never admit that he finds very hot when you speak in your mother tongue, not wanting to sexualize your culture.
- He insisted in you teaching him more about your culture, so you came up with an idea for a cute little date.
- You prepared a picnic basket filled with Brazilian cuisine, such as Pao De Queijo, Feijao Tropeiro, & Brigadeiro.
- During the picnic you noticed he was much more affectionate than usual, feeding you some of the Brigadeiro. You weren't complaining, but also wondered what caused it.
"Eu te amo, querido. (I love you, Sweetheart) " He whispered, kissing off some of the chocolate sprinkles from your lips. You smiled shyly at his flirtatious tone.
"I love you too Jinnie. Care to tell me why you are so affectionate today?" You questioned, gently squishing his cheeks together. He shifted his head towards your hand and began trailing kisses all the way up to your neck.
Jisung
Tumblr media
- Even though you told him that he didn't have to know your language fluently, he was determined to learn every word.
- You adored his accent when trying to speak your language, and when he stumbled over his words with sparkling eyes.
- Jisung wanted to embrace your culture and make you proud, so he always tried his best to try and discover new words each day.
- He learned two words in the morning, ame (Love) & Porro (Fuck). Planning on telling off a member secretly, and telling you how much he loves you in the same day.
"Good Morning, Porro." He greeted, with a confident tone to his words. You stood in shock for a few seconds, hoping he just messed up his new nickname for you.
"Babe, you just called me fuck." You explained, bursting in laughter at his quick transition from confidence to pure terror. Soon being held close to him while he apologized multiple times.
Felix
Tumblr media
- It was your mom's birthday in a few days, and you decided to fly over with Felix and celebrate with them.
- You could tell Felix was nervous about visiting a new country that he didn't know much about, but he still tried to hide his fear.
- Your family was excited to finally meet Felix, all of them being large fans of his due to his music and cute stories with you.
- Once you finally walked onto the airport floor, you noticed your squealing mother rushing towards both of you with that large beaming smile you missed so much.
"Meu bebê! Eu senti tanto sua falta. E este deve ser o seu lindo príncipe, suas sardas são bem fofas." you mother commented, soon engulfing felix in a tight hug.
He looked at you for a translation, "she said, My baby! I missed you so much. And this must be your handsome prince, his freckles are quite cute." You explained, planting a soft kiss to his now pink tinted cheeks.
Seungmin
Tumblr media
- You were talking on the phone with your father, who was currently on a plane to Korea with the rest of your family.
- They were visiting for Christmas break, and were excited to meet your boyfriend that you never seemed to stop talking about.
- They were arriving in half an hour, so you prepared the many glasses filled with avocado juice which was you parent's favorite.
- As you decorated the rim with natural honey, you were welcomed to he loud voices fo your family as they walked up the stairs. You father practically sprinting up them.
"Olá, pai! Como você está? Eu fiz de você e da mamãe o favorito. (Hello dad! How are you? I made you and mom's favorite.)" you greeted, rushing into his arms.
Seungmin stood next to you with a soft smile, loving the sight of you nearly in tears due to happiness. "Boa escolha Y/n. (nice pick y/n)" You mother replied, pinching Seungmin's cheek to his surprise.
Jeongin
Tumblr media
- Jeongin was heavily in love with you, and wanted to tell you in the most memorable way possible.
- He didn't want to just say it out of the blue while watching tv, he it to be special for such a special person in his life.
- Jeongin decided to make your favorite drink Limonada Suica, which was a brazilian lemonade. Whole also playing your favorite film.
- He sat down next to you, handing you a glass of lemonade before planting a soft kiss across your lips. Right after you took a few sips, he cupped your face to look at him.
"Eu te amo muito meu lindo anjo. (I love you so much my beautiful angel)" He whispered, lowering the volume of the movie as he leaned in to kiss you once more.
You melted into the kiss, sighing as he pulled away for air. "Nado salanghae, nae salang.(I love you too, my love.)" You replied in his language, softly smiling at his shimmering gaze. Soon snuggling into his warm body and continuing the movie.

The scarlet and orange flames dance in front of your eyes, almost as if beckoning you to throw yet another piece of firewood into its hungering grasp. You turn away from the fire, instead watching how it blazes within each surrounding set of hooded irises. A smile upturns your lips at the realization that Felix’s eyes sparkle while Jeongin’s shimmer. And Minho’s glow while Jisung’s glimmer. You wondered if your own eyes were as bright. Or if they were dim from the haunting ghosts of grief and betrayal.
Woojin had managed to drive far enough into the forest to evade whatever security the scientists sent after all of you. You drove for hours and hours, discovering the border to be a lot farther away than you originally thought. So far, your main plan was to pass the border, find some hidden door and escape to Yellow Wood using Chan’s key. Although, even if Changbin knew the general location, none of you knew what to expect.
What if there turned out to be no door at all?
Footsteps submerge your consciousness from your thoughts and you turn to see Chan and Changbin returning from the jeep with a couple of bags. He wasn’t lying when he told you the scientists allowed him and the boys to leave. They even provided them with a fully stocked car with food, clothing and any supplies nine boys could need. The thought made you nauseous. Your mind flashes back to the image of Chan standing behind the glass of your cage.
You shake it away. He came back for you. They all did.
You have to remember that.
“Who’s hungry?” Chan chuckles, plopping down on the makeshift log seat in between Hyunjin and Felix. Changbin lowers beside you, sandwiching your form in between him and Jeongin. You and the youngest spoke a little on the ride before Woojin called for a rest stop. He was probably one of the cutest boys you’ve ever met. And he was more than willing to cheer you up from your depressive thoughts with a special performance of his: Trot.
“Starving!” Jisung heaves. The leader chuckles again, unzips one of the backpacks and pulls out numerous packages of already prepared fried chicken. Changbin offers you a bottle of Coke, Sprite or water, and you graciously accept your favorite choice. He sends you a soft smile, which you return with one of your own.
“Channie-hyung, are there any ramen cups?”
“Let me check, I think there were a couple here somewhere-” Chan digs through the same backpack before tossing it away and searching through another. Neither of the two provide him any victory, so he turns to peer into the one behind him. His body visibly tenses as he unzips it, which he quickly zips up. He move back around, “(Y/N), I think this is yours.”
“What?” With furrowed eyebrows and pursed lips, you reach forward to collect the backpack in your arms. It was oddly heavy against your limbs and connected to the ground with a loud thud when you set it down between your legs. Like Chan, you unzip it and part the flaps. Your confusion dissipates to sorrow.
A single note card was laid a top whatever was packed inside the bag. You recognize the penmanship immediately and the realization wells tears in the corners of your eyes. You take the paper between quivering fingers and lift it toward the fire light for a better view. With a deep, calming breath, you read the words scrawled across the page:
(Y/N),
I want you to stay with those hybrid boys. They’ll take care of you better than your mother and I ever could. I hope you’ll find somewhere where you’ll be safe and happy. You deserve that more than anyone. I’m sorry for everything I never told you.
I’ll be with you always.
“I ran into your aunt when I was trying to convince Dr. Bang to let me see you,” Minho says from across the fire, his eyes twinkling underneath the wrath of the flames. “She told me to give that to you. Said it would help you think of home.”
You smile just as a single tear pushes itself from your eye, but you wipe it away before it can fall. With a heavy, aching, yet oddly calm heart, you retract the items from the bag. Each elicit a pleasant memory from the deepest depths of those you forgot. The camera your mother bought for your twelfth birthday. The stuffed animal you’ve had since you were a baby. The journal you’ve barely filled with your deepest, darkest secrets.
Surprisingly though, you felt numb. Whether it be from the bitterness of this life you once knew and lived having always been one big lie, or the suffocating idea that both your mother and your aunt were now gone, you couldn’t tell. That is two deaths on your conscious now.
You felt even sicker.
“Thank you, Minho… but I can’t keep these things.”
“What do you mean?”
You shrug, “It’s kind of hard to describe, but I just… It doesn’t feel like these things are really mine anymore…
“Here, I think I have something for each one of you.”
Eighteen pairs of eyes widen at your words. You shush Chan and Woojin when they attempt to usher the idea of you giving away your precious items. The other boys remain alert, ears twitching in excitement and figures fidgeting in impatience at the possibility of receiving gifts. You turn to Jeongin first and tug your favorite furry earmuffs from your middle school winters over his fox ears. You sigh, “I know it’s not very exciting, but these will keep you warm no matter how cold it is. They match your fur too.”
Jeongin giggles while thumbing at his new gift, “Thank you, (Y/N)-noona.”
“You’re welcome, Jeongin.” You pull out more items from your childhood. “Woojin, this jacket should fit you perfectly. And Felix, I remember you saying you always wanted an old gameboy.”
“Way cool! Thank you so much!” Felix all but snatches the device from your fingertips, squealing in delight when the screen lights up in response. On the other hand, you have to convince Woojin to try the jacket on. After testing the fit, he reluctantly accepts. You can’t help but smile while watching him cuddle into its warmth.
One by one, you bestow a present from your past onto the people of your future. Hyunjin, a pair of oversized dancing shoes your father bought in an attempt to rekindle your already lost relationship. Jisung, the stuffed animal that protected you during your childhood fears of the dark and thunderstorms. Changbin, the journal with blank pages ready to be filled with song lyrics. All that was left, Minho, Seungmin and Chan.
“Forget about me?” Minho chuckles. Playfully, he waggles a charred poker makeshifted from a long stick.
You return with a snicker of your own and shake your head, “How could I ever? Think fast.”
You toss the item high, safe enough to fly and land far away from the flames. With cupped hands, Minho manages to catch his gift midair. His expression starts as confusion before gradually shifting to remorse once he realizes what it was.
“I was going to wish for my mom to get better… but I never got to the bridge in time...” You chuckle, thumbing at a loose thread hung from your badly torn jeans. “Wherever we end up, and when you think the time is right, I want you to make your own wish.”
Minho smiles and clutches the unused lock between both palms. Beneath the glow of the fire and the sliver of moonlight, you could see the start of tears glistening in his deep brown eyes. He sighs, “...Thank you, (Y/N)-ah.”
You nod. Not knowing what else to say.
“Here, Seungmin.” You offer the beagle the precious polaroid camera you practically begged for how many years ago. With trembling, eager hands, the youngster takes the device from you, cradling it within his palms. His eyebrows furrow as he fusses with different mechanics. Then, raises the camera and aims it straight at you. You barely get the chance to blink before the familiar click enters your ears and the device whirs out a laminated sheet.
Seungmin shakes the photograph, gazes at it with such admiration and turns back to you with tears in his eyes, “Thank you so much, (Y/N)-noona. I really don’t deserve this-”
“-Of course you do.” You argue, waving your hand to dismiss his insecurity away. “Min, I don’t care about whatever happened back at the lab. You guys came back for me-”
“-You don’t understand.” Seungmin shakes his head, “Noona, I wasn’t talking about you.”
Your chest tightens, “What do you mean?”
“Yeah, Seungminie? What do you mean?” At Changbin’s voice, you realize the other members are all now listening to your conversation with the hybrid. An obvious tension carried between the lot of you.
Seungmin glances warily at Chan, who nods his head in response. The beagle refuses to meet anyone’s gaze, continues to fiddle with his new camera and guiltily murmurs, “I... I was the reason that… none of us were really… put where we were supposed to be...”
“Seungmin-ah? What are you saying?”
He shakes his head, “The MCHPF had me… change the location of where to send everyone…
“I’m the reason Woojin-hyung ended up in the circus, and Jisung at the club… It’s how I knew where everyone was….” Seungmin finishes with a heavy exhale, as if releasing the weight he had been burdened with for god knows how long.
“Hang on a second,” Your head snaps to see Hyunjin rising out of his seat with a shocked and angered expression across his features. “You were the reason I was in that damn ring?”
“Hyunjin, please. Seungmin had reason to.” Chan attempts to calm the furious dalmation, but only works to tense Hyunjin’s cropped ears even further. “Don’t be upset with-”
Hyunjin gasps, “-Don’t be upset!? How the hell am I supposed to not be upset!? You have no idea how much shit I went through in that ring!... How many fights I almost fucking died to!
“And what about Jisung!? How many times was he raped in that club!?” You wince at Hyunjin’s observation, catching how Jisung’s cat ears fall flat against his head. “Or both Felix and Woojin being abused both physically and verbally!? What about-!?”
“-They were gonna kill Jeongin if I didn’t do it!” Seungmin sobs, effectively cutting off his brother’s frantic voice. His body begins to rock back and forth while his fingers dig into the flesh of his knees, “They needed you in certain places so we could-”
“-You were in on this, weren’t you?” Woojin interrupts this time. His question was aimed toward the oddly silent wolf. Chan’s shoulders fall, similar to the way his neck arches toward the ground. Like Seungmin, he doesn’t make eye contact with anyone. He only nods.
“So not only were you willing to give (Y/N)-ah up, but you let us be pawns in their game.” Woojin mutters sadly.
Chan shakes his head, “It wasn’t like that. I did it so we could-”
“-Be free.” Hyunjin growls, sending both his guilty brothers a sneer. “There’s always a price to pay for freedom. Who knew it’d be your own family.”
The dalmatian storms from the circle and back in the direction of the jeep. A breath you hadn’t realized you had been holding releases from your parted lips, staining the silent atmosphere with even more tension. You debated on soothing the crying beagle beside you, but Woojin beats you to it, “Seungmin-ssi, come on. Let’s go calm you down.”
Chan rises with the two, as if to run after Hyunjin, but the bear shakes his head, “Don’t. I think you’ve done enough.”
“We’ll go calm Jinnie down.” Jeongin, Felix and Jisung all break from the circle and scurry after their brother. You watch their silhouettes bleed into the pitch black of night. A strange feeling arising in your stomach as they go.
“Well, awkward.” Minho hums, drumming his fingers against the empty seats beside him. He hesitates for a minute, just staring into the low flames of the fire, before continuing, “Changbinnie and I will go help Woojin-hyung and Seungminnie. I’m sure you two need some time to talk anyway.”
You curse the coyote for ducking out of the situation that easily, and you’re almost tempted to give him the finger as he and Changbin disappear deeper into the forest. A huff brushes past your lips. With nothing to lose, you turn to peer at the only remaining hybrid’s face.
In this lighting, he looked ethereal. Almost too perfect to be real. His dark roots were beginning to show along the line of his scalp and thus, emphasized the bleached color of his blonde locks and the silver of his hybrid ears. His hair was also in its naturally curled form which you so rarely saw back at your apartment. You loved Chan’s curls. Then again, you loved everything about Chan.
At least, you thought you did.
With a deep sigh, you climb to your feet and make your way to where the wolf is sat. You don’t bother asking, take the seat beside him and stare straight into the fire. The silence you expected to remain breaks at his soft whisper:
“I’m a monster.”
You sigh, “No, you’re not. You’re just… trying to protect your family.”
“By hurting and lying to them?” Chan’s hands fly to his hair, fingers tugging harshly at his roots. Your heart cracks at his frantic stature, having never before seen him look so insecure and distressed. “Woojin’s right… All of this was just one big game that I played… and dragged the people I love into…”
“It wasn’t your fault. You did what you thought was the best thing for your brothers.” Gently, you place a hand on the hybrid’s shoulder. His figure tightens beneath your touch and it sends an ache into your gut. “Don’t do this to yourself, Chan.”
“Don’t act like you don’t hate me for what I did.” The wolf’s sudden growl has you flinching backward. The eyes which connect with yours are ones you’ve seen, but only in times where fear and Chan existed in the same place. Even so, you didn’t find yourself intimidated. Beneath the aggression, you could see a boy locked in a cage. One filled with despair and terror.
You inhale an unsteady gust of air, barely holding back a cough as the zest of smoke tickles at your throat. Another hand is lifted toward the wolf. This time, splaying across the surface of his pale cheek. Your lips barely upturn, but it’s enough for the ferocity to disperse from his irises.
“I could never hate you.” You whisper truthfully with a sad smile, “What you did… hurt me… It hurt me a lot…
“But I could never hate you for it.”
Just as a droplet cascades from his eye, you wipe it away. Chan shakes his head, “I never wanted to hurt you…”
“Chan-”
“-Really, I didn’t.” He says more firmly. Your hand on his cheek is pulled away and instead cradled between his larger palm. With it occupied, you couldn’t wipe the other tears blemishing the wolf’s face. “Do you think you could ever forgive me?”
Those words fracture whatever pieces are left of your heart.
Once again, no matter how much it hurt, you answer truthfully, “I don’t know…”
“That’s fair…”
“Yeah…” When your hands slip from his, you immediately miss his warmth. You will the feelings away, ignoring the temptation to throw your arms around Chan and hold him until the sun comes up. As much as you wanted to forgive and forget, you couldn’t. The damage that was done was just that:
Unforgettable.
“Hyung, noona, we’re gonna head out soon.” Jisung’s voice drowns out your overbearing thoughts. Without one last glance at the wolf, you rise to your feet and follow the cat hybrid back toward the jeep. Minho was in the driver’s seat this time with Felix in the passenger. Woojin and Changbin were in the process of reloading bags in whatever space was available. You were surprised to see Hyunjin and Seungmin sitting beside each other. Although neither were really speaking to one another.
“It’ll be about another day until we reach the border,” Changbin hums while taking a seat beside Woojin. Chan climbs over him to take the bear’s other side. You follow Jisung and position yourself between him and Jeongin. It was a little cramped, but it could be worse. “We should have enough gasoline to get us there.”
“Gre-” You go to reply, but a sudden pang in the back of your brain has a surprised groan spilling from your lips. The sickness from before turns into a full blown nausea, and for a second you thought you were going to puke. Luckily, as fast as it came, the pain lessens into a faint ache. You could still feel it pulsing in your head. The thought brings worry into your gut.
“(Y/N)-noona, are you okay?”
You angle your head to peer at a concerned Jeongin and shake your head, “My head hurts…but I’m sure it’s just from lack of sleep”
You could only hope.
***
“Rock! Paper! Scissors!” At the queue, you manipulate your hand into what looks like a pair of scissors. A smile of victory invades your face when you see your opponent fashioning a paper.
“What the heck!? How are you so good at this, noona!?” Jeongin laughs at Jisung’s whine. The bengal sends the fox a dark glare, leaning forward to butt his head into his chest. Jeongin’s laughter only increases and thus, brings a sharp pout to Jisung’s face. “It’s not funny! She even beat Felix!”
“It’s just luck, Sung,” You chuckle, fixing his leftmost pointed ear when it folded inwards. “There’s no real skill to it.”
Jisung whines again, “But you’ve won every time! You have to have some strategy!”
You laugh, “I really don’t! Like I said, it’s luck!”
Frustrated by your lack of explanation, Jisung completely gives up playing with you and proceeds to play with the youngest member, who he equally loses as much to. Left by your lonesome, you take the chance to peer out the side of the jeep.
Since the sun came up a couple hours ago, you were finally able to see a lot farther than a few inches in front of your face. Minho had driven into this plains sort of area. It was still completely surrounded by forest, but it was a lot easier to navigate through. Although you couldn’t help but feel a little uneasy since you were completely out in the open as well.
Anyone could be watching.
A chill slithers down your spine like snake.
What if someone was watching you?
Out of instinct, you peer along the moving treeline, hoping to catch sight of whatever was making your skin crawl. There was no possible way the lab security could have caught up to you guys this fast. Or maybe they were there amongst the trees, waiting to strike at the right moment…
“Woah! What is that!?” Felix, having switched seats with Changbin somewhere along the ride, grabs the headbar above his head and pulls himself to his feet. It’s the little unsteady due to the rocking of the jeep, but his hold on the bar stabilizes him enough. Hyunjin lifts an arm to warn the cat, but is quickly shoved away.
Chan does the same as his younger brother, but on the opposite side,  “Check that out!”
You turn to look where the wolf is pointing, discovering something red approaching in the distance. If you had to guess, it was a patch of bright, pretty wildflowers. It reminded you of the garden your aunt so desperately kept up with. She always loved to garden.
Your eyes widen when you catch sight of a figure nestled amongst the flowers. You climb to your feet to get a better view, practically bending halfway out of the jeep. It could have been an animal, but you swear it had the shape of a person. Someone familiar.
“(Y/N)-noona, be careful. You’r-”
“-I’m fine, Hyunjin.” You reply rather sharply, annoyed at not being able to find out what that thing in the wildflowers was. With a huff, you lower back down onto your seat and cross your arms. You should have asked Minho to slow down.
“(Y/N), are you sure you’re okay?” Felix asks. When you look up, you discover concern etched across the features of his face. “You’ve been acting strange ever since we left.”
You shrug, “I’m just tired… It’s probably just-”
“-Holy shit! Hang on to something!” The brakes release a painful screech as the vehicle hurls to a rocky stop, the inertia throwing everyone forward. You barely have the chance to reach up and grab the edge of the jeep to stop yourself from launching out of the car. Even so, your lower body wrenches out of your seat. Chan lurches forward to catch your legs and steady you while Minho brings the jeep to a complete stop.
“What the hell was that!?” Woojin rasps while helping Felix and Hyunjin to their feet. “Minho-?!”
“-There’s something blocking the path!” The coyote hops out of the driver’s seat. The younger hybrids follow him out of the vehicle, gathering around some sort of metal fence. With Chan’s assistance, you’re able to do so as well.
The fence was at least ten feet high, maybe more with how much it was towering over everyone’s heads. It was obviously old and abandoned, decorated by harsh years of copper rust. There was also torn black and yellow caution tape and stained ‘road closed’ signs along its exterior as well. It stretched on for as long as you could see to both the left and the right. Almost like a long silver ribbon fluttering into the forest.
“Well, there’s good news and bad news.” Minho turns to face the group with a sheepish grin stretched along his lips. “We’re close to the border, maybe another twelve hours. But we can’t continue unless we get around this fence.”
“Can’t we break it down?” Jeongin offers, his fox ears twitching at the appearance of a harsh breeze.
Woojin nods, “Good idea, Innie. With how old it is, Chan, Changbin and I can do it with our bare hands.”
“Just be careful not to cut yourselves.”
Your warning takes the bear by surprise, but he recovers quickly and nods, “Good thinking, (Y/N)-ah. We need to find a place where the fence has loosened from the dirt. Jisung, over by you-”
“-What the fuck, Seungmin-ah!?” The sudden yell takes you so much by surprise, you physically flinch at the curse. You turn to see Hyunjin stomping toward Seungmin, who was lowering his camera. The dalmatian snatches the polaroid from the beagle’s fingers and flings it toward the ground. Your anxiety increases tenfold when Seungmin lifts his own arms to shove Hyunjin. The latter doing the same.
“Hyunjin! Seungmin!” Chan and the others dash toward their quarreling brothers, immediately separating the two before any real damage could be done. You move to follow the group, but a similar ache from before enters your head. This time, its ten times worse.
The pain travels from your head to the rest of your body, almost as if your flesh was being poked with needles. Dizziness and blurriness overtake your eyes, and you’re barely able to witness Changbin step in between the two separated hybrids. You open your mouth to call out, but are hit with yet another pang that brings you to your knees. You squeeze your eyes shut, willing the pain to cease.
Eventually, your prayers are answered and the level of hurt diminishes. You find the strength to test your luck and open your eyes. When you do, your panic embiggens before shifting to full terror.
The boys and the jeep were gone, along with the fence and even the surrounding trees. You were knelt on a tiled floor, hands bound behind your back and a gag inside your mouth. There were no walls, only pitch black void surroundings. When you scream, the sound echoes in your ears like a broken record. You were alone.
A movement out of the corner of your eye has your neck snapping to the right, only to find nothing but even more blackness. You scream again, biting at the cloth between your teeth. Another movement comes from the left, but when you turn, there’s still nothing there.
Something drops right in front of you, stealing a high-pitched wail from your lips. Your volume strengthens when you recognize the body of your own mother hung from the nonexistent ceiling by a pretty, pink scarf. Her lifeless, paled irises stare into your own. So pale, you could see your own terrified reflection.
Another inhumane yell sounds, but this time, it doesn’t come from you. You duck forward, dodging another corpse as it cascades from above. A head lands perfectly within your lap, body splayed out in front of you. You whimper at your aunt’s blank and cold expression, the bullet hole inside her brain almost acting as a third eye. Struggling against your restraints, you scoot away from two bodies as far as you can before your back knocks against something else.
A sudden hand emerges from the darkness and pins you to the ground. No matter how much you squirm, their strength outmatches yours. In their other hand, you watch breathlessly as they lead a small knife to your neck. The blade caressing the skin of your jugular.
“Please, no!” You gasp over your gag, shaking your head feverishly. “Don’t kill me!”
“Why not?” To your horror, the face that materializes from the void is one that mirrors your own. Except her eyes were full of malevolence. The giggle that stems from her -- your lips, erupts goosebumps across your skin. She moves forward to press the blade even firmer against your throat with an evil smirk:
“You’re as good as dead, anyway.”
“No!” With a final bout of strength, you tear through your restraints and claw at her face. A groan pulls past her lips as your fingernails slice across her cheek, blood splattering against the floor. Taking advantage of the moment of weakness, you thrust your feet into her stomach and knock her body off of yours. She hits the ground with a sharp cry, the knife flying past her fingertips.
You scramble for the weapon, ensnaring it between your own fingers. The doppelganger giggles again as you replace the blade across her own throat. She batters her eyelashes and nods, “That’s fucking right… Kill me…”
You gulp, your hand shaking against her skin. The temptation to slit her throat was so overpowering, but something inside you made you hold back.
Something wasn’t right.
“Show them who you are, killer!…” She screeches, her icy grip appearing around your wrist. She pulls the knife further against her neck, droplets of blood already welling beneath the metal. “C’mon, what are you fucking afraid of!?”
“This isn’t right…” You murmur to yourself, “You’re not real…”
“Do it!” Her scream pierces straight through your eardrums and echoes violently inside your mind. “Kill me! Slit my throat!”
“No!” You wrench away from the figmentation, allowing the knife to slip from your grasp. “You’re not real! None of this is real!”
“Coward!” She spits, crimson liquid spilling from her blue lips. “You’re a coward!”
You shake your head, close your eyes and whisper, “None of this is real…”
“(Y/N)-ah!”
When you open your eyes, the doppelganger is gone along with everything else from your nightmares. You were back in reality, still knelt on the grass. However, you quickly realize something was not the same as before.
Hyunjin and Seungmin were no longer trying to kill each other, and instead clinging to each other with fear etched across each of their faces. Same goes for Jisung, Felix and Jeongin. Woojin was staring at you with a blend of sympathy and concern while Changbin exhibited something closer to panic. Minho was just shocked, extremely shocked. And Chan…
Chan was holding a small gash at the edge of his throat.
“N-no…” You whimper, watching the blood spill from down his pale skin. When you look down, you see the knife from before balanced in your lap. “Ch-Chan…”
He shakes his head and holds an arm out, “(Y/N), it’s okay…”
“I almost killed you…”
Chan moves to catch you, but you were already collapsing to the ground. Blurred spots and white stars steal your consciousness, and the last thing you see before slipping into yet another world of darkness was a flash of yellow and a faint scream.
***
It takes you awhile to come to. You even have difficulty opening your eyes. Too afraid the setting your mind would see was not the one your eyes were supposed to. When you strike up the courage, you’re not at all surprised to see you were in a different location from before.
You were no longer outside, but in what seemed to be a quaint, cozy tent. A heavy quilt kept your figure nice and warm. More blankets beneath you to lessen the firmness of the earth on your back. Even so, your muscles still feel stiff as you sit up.
“(Y/N)...” You flinch at the sound of your name and turn to your right to see a certain wolf laid beside you. Your movement seemed to have woken him from a deep slumber as his eyes were still hooded and ears twitching groggily. He lifts a hand from beneath the blanket you two shared and trails it down your arm.
Although you really didn’t want to, you pull away from his touch.
His eyebrows furrow as he sits up. And thus, reveals the sight you were so deathly afraid to see: The deep gash along the base of his neck.
The wound you gave him.
“(Y/N)...” The gentle whisper of your name breaks your resolve and all you want to do is scream in absolute frustration. Unable to look at the injury, you bury your head within your palms and allow the shame and grief to overtake you. Never before have you cried so violently or so mournfully, not even after your mother died. Then again, you never really did allow yourself the time to grieve. Maybe that’s why this was the way it is.
You were crying for the loss of everything: Deaths, lies, mistakes. Everything.
When Chan tugs you into his embrace, you’re too weak and starved for comfort to deny him again. The thought worsens your guilt. Why were you allowed to be selfish when you nearly ended his life?
Still, the hybrid soothes you from the storm that is your mind. His fingers comb through your hair while the other hand catches tears as they cascade down your cheeks. He was speaking in your ear, but his words were incoherent beneath your gulps for air and pathetic whimpers. You don’t know even know how long you were there. Then again, you didn’t really care.
You run out of water to shed eventually, yet you continue to cry even without tears. You were pretty sure you had created as large as a river by then. Maybe then you could actually drown yourself within your own sadness. Not that you weren’t drowning right now.
The weight compressing your chest recedes after some time and your body relaxes as best it can. You were still trembling like a newborn foul, but at least you could breathe properly. Chan refuses to release you from his hold, not that you were complaining. Things may be different from those mornings in your apartment, but you could still spend an eternity just laying in his arms.
“Why didn’t you tell me about the drug?” For the first time, your brain actually recognizes the question that slips from the hybrid’s lips. Unfortunately, it also recognizes the betrayal and distress laced between each syllable. “You took it, didn’t you?”
“I had to.” You confess. Your hand slides into the space where Chan’s rests over the swell of your stomach. Like water to sand, your fingers weave together. And like all the other times where your hands fit so perfectly, you didn’t want to let go. “They were going to use it to cause a genocide… So many innocent humans and hybrids would die.”
“So what? So what if they died?”
“You don’t mean that.”
“Yes, I do.” His grip on your body tightens. You could feel the bruises that would later fashion in flowers of black and blue across your arms, but you didn’t care. In fact, you welcomed the pain. “Because now… you might die instead.”
“A bit overdue, if you ask me.” You chuckle, attempting to make light of the situation. Chan doesn’t react to your comment, only burrows his head further into the crevice where your shoulders meets your neck. The sigh that airs is hot against your chapped lips. Softly, you try again, “If anything like… what happened earlier happens again, I need you to promise that you’ll do whatever it takes to protect you and the boys.”
“No,” He shakes his head, “I won’t.”
“Yes. You will.”
“I won’t!” Chan growls, maneuvering so he was hovering over your body. One hand rested right beside your head while the other lowers to splay across your chest. Right over your beating heart, “This is going to beat as long as it possibly can. I don’t care what I have to do or give up to keep it that way.”
Your lips upturn sadly, “You know it’s inevitable. I’ll end up killing all of you-”
“-I don’t. Fucking. Believe it.” The hybrid hisses, “You didn’t kill me back there. You woke yourself up.”
“And yet, I still hurt you.” Your hand raises to caress at the scratch. “You have to be realistic. You have to look at this from the bigger picture.”
“Every picture I look at you from will be the same, (Y/N)...” Chan whispers, leaning into the palm cupping his cheek. He continues in an even softer tone, “When I saw the way you looked at me back in the lab when I told you the truth… I realized how stupid I was to ever think I could give you up...
“I tried to remind myself what you were, but you were just so… different… Nothing like the humans I always knew… And I just… wanted you… even though it was never supposed to be this way...”
“I love you, (Y/N)...” Chan’s confesses, “I’m sorry it took me so long to figure that out.”
Emotionally struck by the words you’ve been longing to hear ever since you realized it yourself, your voice trembles when you speak, “If I die-”
“-You’re not going to fucking die.” Whatever words that were resting on the tip of your tongue dissolve when Chan takes both of your wrists and pins them down beside your head. At this angle, he looked so intimidating with his sharp gaze and wolf ears. The vulnerability of your body beneath his sends a pleasurable rush through your body, awakening the warmth of your core.
You gulp, “Ch-Chan…”
“If you think I’m going to allow anything to take you away from me… You’re wrong.” His hot breath caresses your cheek as he murmurs. You feel antsy from the sensations. He stills your squirms with a leg between your own. His knee resting just inches from where you want him most.
You hold your breath, unable to take in the moment fast enough.
“I know you always hated the idea of being my owner... but you own me, babygirl. You own my body, my heart and my soul.” He continues, leaning down to card his lips across the exposed skin of your chest. The contact makes you even more sensitive than before. You can’t help but push up against him, struggling against his hold on your wrists. His grip doesn’t budge.
You sigh in exasperation, “Chan-”
“-But you are my owner, (Y/N).” Your sanity flies out the window when you realize exactly how close the wolf is. There was barely any space between the tips of your noses, his body practically suffocating your own. However, you were only focused on one thing:
His eyes.
Unlike the kind brown you’re used to, his irises were a glowing amber filled with absolute hunger. Yet, deep inside the flecks of gold and caramel, you could see every other emotion bouncing throughout his head. The anxiety. The desperation. The love.
“And if you’re my owner, that means you belong to me too…” He whispers, bending down to rest his forehead against your own. You were so transfixed by his eyes, you couldn’t look away from his gaze. Not even when he releases one of your wrists to slide beneath the hem of your shirt, “You’re mine, (Y/N)... And I’m yours...”
Unable to take anymore, you utilize your free limb and yank the hybrid down to meet your lips. The kiss you two share is unlike any of the others you shared before. While the ministrations were carried out the same, there was so much more meaning and feeling beneath the passion. Your tongues dance: Once for dominance. Twice for eagerness. Three times for desire. You don’t think either of you would have pulled away if your lungs could produce air on their own.
A surprised yelp carries from your throat when Chan palms at your left breast which was already braless beneath your tank top. Fueled by arousal, you grow impatient with the lack of skin on skin and tug roughly at his own shirt. He chuckles at your restlessness, but sits up and removes the clothing nonetheless.
You’ve seen the hybrid shirtless many times, but you still could never get over how well built he was. Lifting your hand, you drag your fingers across his broad chest, down the valley between his pecs and over the lines of his prominent abs. A sound that was far from human rumbles from his throat as you follow the trail of hair that disappears beneath the waistband of his jeans. At a closer look, you notice the obvious tent straining against the denim. You can’t help yourself and close your palm over the bulge.
Chan curses. His grip on your breast toughens, knee pushing up against your core. You keen at the contact, gasping as his bone stimulates your clitoris. Noticing your reaction, he does it again. This time, purposely dragging his knee over your slit. You release a high-pitched moan. Your hand squeezing over his clothed hardness.
Impatient himself, the hybrid removes your shirt and immediately latches his lips over your already hardened nipple. Whines cascade from your lips, your hand moving to tug at his blonde locks. He groans, laving and sucking at your sensitive bud before pulling away to provide its twin the same treatment.
“Chan!...” You lift your hips to grind against his leg, needing something to satiate the fire between your thighs. Your companion groans. He gently encloses his teeth over your nipple and leans backward to playfully tug at  your flesh. Another whine is followed by another rock of your hips. You throw your head back with a wince, “Baby, please… I need more…”
Without hesitation, Chan hooks his fingers in the waistband of your jeans and drags them down your thighs with something close to frenzy. You shut your eyes for a second, only to be met with the sound of ripping fabric and a cool breeze on your core.
Chan tosses the scraps of your underwear to the side and inhales a sharp breath that shifts to a deep guttural growl, “Shit, you smell so good…”
His fingers swipe across your slit, just barely caressing your clit. You whine when he pulls away. The sound dying in your throat as he pops the two digits inside his mouth. Another inhuman purr erupts from the wolf, his eyes flashing an even darker orange. Licking his lips, he lowers his hand back down to your core and plunges two fingers inside your aching hole.
“Oh shit! Chan!”
“You’re so tight around my fingers… so tight and warm…” He purrs, nuzzling into your neck before sliding all the way down your body. The quilt is thrown out of the way so Chan can situate himself comfortably between your thighs. His silver ears twitch in anticipation, similar to the curling of your toes as he leans in toward your wet pussy. Almost testing the waters, he sticks his tongue out and licks a quick stripe over your clit. He groans at your taste, “Shit, you taste just like I thought you would… so perfect…”
You hold the sheets for dear life as the hybrid goes to town both thrusting his fingers in and out of your hole and tonguing lazily at your swollen bundle of nerves. Your gazes remained connected and you could actually see your own fucked out expression within the reflection of his irises. It made the knot forming in your stomach tighten even more.
At a certain angle, a high-pitched cry escapes your lips and your hips buck against Chan’s hold. He uses his other limb to pin your waist to the ground. As if he loves torturing you, he continues to move his fingers against that one spot that has you weak while his licks grow more intense.
“Fuck! I’m-I’m gonna cum, Chan!...” Your warning increases the hybrid’s speed. He goes so much faster that your vision goes blurry with hot tears and your lower regions become completely numb. You knew it was over when Chan took your clitoris between his lips and sucked. Hard.
Your orgasm hits like a landslide, shoving you over a cliff you’ve never, ever traveled over before. It rocks your body, and might as well have rocked your world too, because you have never climaxed so hard in your life. Even when you regain some sense of consciousness, your body still continued to tremble and shake.
When you open your eyes, you’re met with Chan’s worried gaze. He cups your cheek and asks frantically, “Babygirl, are you okay? Was I too much-?”
You shake your head, “-God, no! I’ve just… never came like that before…”
He smiles and leans down to press a long peck to your sweaty hairline. While the moment was meant to be sweet, you couldn’t help but notice his hardness pressed against your lower stomach. The thought awakens your core and kick starts your lust. You squirm until your sexes are aligned and buck against his clothed cock.
“(Y/N), b-baby, wait-“
You refuse Chan’s warnings and tug at his hair, “No more waiting. I need you inside me. Now.”
The hybrid’s eyes widen to saucers and his jaw drops, “Are… are you sure?”
“I trust you.” You reply, sending him the most sincere look you’ve ever contorted. “I-I…
“I love you, Chan.”
Your lover’s eyes glaze. Almost as if he would burst into tears. He bends down to seal your lips in another hard kiss, before pulling away to kick off his bottoms. His cock is the biggest you’ve ever seen. The idea of how much it’ll stretch excites you.
“This might hurt a little…” Chan murmurs while pumping his length.
You shake your head with a smile, “I can take a little pain…”
Chan slicks himself as much as he can with your arousal. You whimper when his tip comes in contact with your clit, grabbing at his shoulders for support. He wraps one arm around your waist to keep you in place. The other positions his member right at your entrance.
The first initial push is so painful, it sets your entire lower half on fire. Your whimpers blend with Chan’s growls as he remains still to allow you time to adjust. Your walls squeeze him like a vice, gradually accommodating to his thickness. Inch by inch, he sinks inside of you until his hips meet yours and he’s settled to the very hilt.
“Oh fuck, babygirl...” Your lover whines. His hands fumble for yours, pins them once again to the sides of your head and weaves your fingers together. He releases a mix between a whimper and a growl, rolling his hips gently against yours. “Oh my god, you feel so-so good…”
“Chan… move, please…”
“Shit, okay… Hold on to me, baby…”
You wrap your arms around his neck while your legs wind around his waist. He doesn’t waste any time and sets a steady, shallow pace that drives his cock deep inside your hole. A sheen of perspiration had already begun to form across your connected bodies. The fragrance, sounds and feel of sex already attacking at your senses. The pain from before ebbed away into a nice ache. It blends with the friction of Chan’s member and adds even more pleasure.
“I-I-shit… I will never let any-anything or anyone t-take you away from me…” Chan growls. His words seem to egg him on, his thrusts becoming more frantic and powerful. His nails dig into the flesh of your wrists, likely to leave future bruises. Not that you cared anyway. “Do you understand me, (Y/N)? You’re mine…”
Your silence doesn’t satisfy the hybrid. He releases one of your hands to entangle it within your hair and pulls until your eyes connect. Leaning closer, Chan speaks again, “Tell me you’re mine, babygirl… Please, I-I need to hear you say it…”
“I’m yours…”
He licks his lips, “Say my name, (Y/N), baby, please…”
“Chan! God, fuck, Chan!”
“My beautiful mate…” The wolf hums, his hand lowering to encompass the circumference of your neck. He doesn’t squeeze, only holds you in place as he leans down and sinks his canines into the side of your throat.
Your jaw goes slack. Your mind too far gone to delineate the difference between what is pleasurable pain and painful pleasure. In your fucked out state, you feel the upcoming tension of another orgasm and begin to buck your hips against Chan’s. Moans and pleas spewing from your lips like a mantra, “Fuck, fuck, fuck! Please, Chan, I’m so close!.. oh, please!”
He detaches from your neck with a groan, “Shhh, babygirl… Need to see you cum again, yeah? You look so beautiful when you cum...”
His slurred words make you feel dizzy. Your eyes roll into the back of your head as he continues to angle his thrusts to abuse the most sensitive spot inside of you. You drag your fingernails down his back, likely leaving a scratch or two, but the hybrid doesn’t mind. In fact, his hips seem to speed up.
“Oh shit, baby, I’m gonna cum too… Wh-where-?”
“-Inside!” You screech, locking your ankles at the small of his back. “Cum inside me!”
Your lover hides his whines by sucking at the marred skin of your neck and lowering his hand to roll at your clit, “G-gonna fill you so good, babygirl… I’ll have you leaking my seed for days…
“Fuck, (Y/N), I’m gonna-”
“-Me too!” Your bodies move against each other desperately, yet fluidly, giving and taking as much pleasure as humanely (and hybridly) possible. Perched right on the edge of climax, you cup Chan’s cheek and tug him down into a finish line kiss. With a brush of his tongue over your bottom lip and one final thrust, you hurl into a sea of white light and neverending euphoria.
Chan follows you with a loud howl, clinging to your body as if you’ll disappear any second. Beneath your haze of pleasure, you feel his hot release paint your insides and warm you to the core. He places a hand over your lower stomach before collapsing against your immobille figure.
Carefully and gently, you coax Chan to sit up enough so you could see his face. Heavy gasps fell from his lips, attempting to regain lost air. You also notice how heavily he was shaking. Your whisper breaks the afterglow of silence, “You’re trembling…”
He shakes his head with a crooked smile, “Don’t worry, I’ll be okay…”
You caress the sweaty locks from his forehead and lean forward to place a long peck to the center. While one hand rubs at his back, the other scratches at his left, furry ear. A rumbling purr emerges from his chest as he lowers to lay against your chest.
“Chan?...”
He hums tiredly.
“I forgive you.”
No other words are said. And no other words need to be said. The two of you continue to bask in the heat of each other’s bodies long into the moonless night. Slumber never approaches, only loving touches and beating hearts call for contentment. And even when morning comes, neither of you move from your tight embrace until the sun is high in the sky and the foreboding calls of a harsh reality sound.
***
“Changbinnie-hyung, how much longer?”
Changbin sighs at the youngest fox’s repeated question, but answers nonetheless, “Soon, Jeongin. Two or three hours at most.”
“We’ve been driving all day. Shouldn’t we be there by now?” Hyunjin questions. You smile at the sight of Seungmin’s head leant against his shoulder, his ears as droopy as his eyelids. It didn’t take long for the two to make up after the quarrell, especially after Minho and Chan explained the bigger situation to everyone.
Minho, up in the driver’s seat again, answers this time, “You better shut your damn trap before I throw you out of this car.”
The dalmatian makes no move at pressing his luck. You can’t blame the kid.
“Someone’s a little cranky.” You murmur to yourself.
“You try driving with this chatterbox next to you for twelve plus hours.”
Shit. You forgot about his enhanced hearing.
“(Y/N)-ah, are you feeling better?” You turn to meet Woojin’s concerned gaze and attempt to ease his worry with a soft smile.
“Actually, I am. I think the drug is wearing off.”
Ever since you woke up with Chan, you haven’t had any issues involving headaches, agitation or even nausea. Even those weird flashes of yellow just stopped. You and Chan talked about it earlier, but you think it has something to do with your unique DNA. Although you’re human, the hybrid genes in your blood probably eliminated the drug from your symptoms along with any countering effects. You wish it worked faster, but you have to take what you can get.
Things might work out for the better after all.
“Look! It’s Miroh!” Your eyes snap up to where Jisung is pointing. Your heart both lurches and pulses at the view of the city, miles and miles away. Buildings were lit up like holiday lights in the pitch black of night; a memory of the zoo and your aunt pops into your head. You smile.
She would have loved to see that.
“What are we gonna do once we get to Yellow Wood, Channie-hyung?” Seungmin sits up from the dalmatian’s shoulder, only to wrap a tight arm around his chest and pull him into his side.
Chan shrugs, “Whatever we want. We can go anywhere, do anything.”
“Can we going swimming in the ocean? Like the history books talked about?” Jeongin pipes up. His words laced with childish and innocent hope.
The wolf chuckles, “Those sound like great ideas, Innie.”
“Where would we live, though?” The orange tabby calls from the front, earning a sharp glare from the coyote. Felix turns completely around to face Chan and tilts his head, “There’s probably no shelters in tact or any civilizations…”
“Why not a treehouse?” Your offer erupts the vehicle into chaos. The 00 line and Jeongin burst into discussions of possible layouts and materials to build the actual houses. Through your peripheral, you catch Chan staring at you with eyes of love and admiration. His gaze brings a heated blush across your cheeks.
“We’re definitely living in a treehouse! Like in that one old movie…”
Seungmin finishes for Hyunjin with an annoyed sigh, “Jumanji..?”
“Yeah!”
You giggle, “Sounds like a plan.”
Before anyone can extend any more suggestions regarding the plan of the treehouse, the vehicle jerks and swerves to the side. You stretch your arms outward to protect Jisung and Jeongin from being thrown out of the window. Minho slams on the brakes, coaxing the car to an unsteady stop. He mutters a curse before shaking his head, “Shit. We blew out a tire. We’re gonna have to go the rest of the way on foot.”
“We’re close though.” Chan adds while helping the younger hybrids out of the jeep. Woojin and Changbin proceed to empty the inside and hand everyone their respective bags and suitcases.
You help Jeongin slip his bag around his shoulders before grabbing your own, “Yeah. We’ll be there before you know it.”
You take up the lead with Chan, who grabs your hand, lifts it up and presses a peck to the back of your knuckles. You both are met with a chorus of disgusted groans and whistles which steal laughs and chuckles from your throats. Lugging his suitcase along, you follow Chan as he makes his way deeper into the forest. The rest of the boys not too far behind.
“We’re looking for some sort of lock for that key, right?”
Chan nods, “Yep. I hope it’s not too hard to find.”
“I just wish we knew what we were looking for.” You sigh while gazing longingly through the array of shadowy tree trunks. “I mean, it could be anything for all we know.”
“Hey. We’ll find it.” The wolf sends you a supportive smirk, “And maybe once we’re alone again, you’ll allow me a bite of my favorite snack…”
“You’re such a dork.” Your groan pulls a loud laugh from your lover’s throat. You can’t help but smile, “I love you.”
“I love you more, my mate.”
You shiver, “Still getting used to that.”
“Don’t act like it doesn’t turn you on.”
“Shut the fuck up.”
You, Chan and the other boys move deeper through the forest until you emerge at yet another open field. Your eyes widen when you notice a looming structure just about a hundred feet or two up ahead. It was a stone wall, cracked with age and home to hundreds of patches of vines and moss. You’ve never seen something so tall in your life, even skyscrapers back in Miroh’s capital couldn’t compare.
“Holy shit. That’s the border, isn’t it?”
Minho’s call carries from behind your shoulder, “We did it! We fucking did it!”
“I can’t believe it.” Seungmin gasps. “It’s so tall.”
Felix shakes his head, “How do we get through it?”
“It looks like there’s some type of gate just up ahead.” You point to the iron barred gate hinged in the exact middle of the tall border. Like the rest of the wall, it looked completely abandoned and unguarded. Border patrol was never an issue, since there’s nothing beyond Miroh’s limits. At least, that’s what you originally thought.
“Good eye, (Y/N). Let’s head out-”
“-Wait!” Everyone freezes at the frantic yell of the bengal hybrid. You angle your head to peer at the boy, discovering his eyes to be blown wide and large ears rotating back and forth. Your skin crawls when the rest of the boys tense, and for once, you wish you had super senses like them.
“You’ve got to be fucking kidding me…” Changbin growls, his head whirling up toward the sky. You follow, attempting to see whatever him and the other hybrids were startled by, but discover nothing but stars and a waxing crescent moon.
“What’s going on?”
“Helicopters.” Chan replies in a mellow tone, “We have to move now.”
“No way! If they see us, it’s game over!” Seungmin argues before gesturing back toward the trees, “We should hide until they go away.”
“I don’t understand how they found us in the first place. (Y/N)-noona, you don’t have a tracker, do you?”
You shake your head at Jisung’s inquiry, “Nope.”
“Guys…” Everyone turns to look at Jeongin. His ears were downcast and eyes wide with fright. He spins around and bends his neck to show the unnatural bump at the base of his neck. The size of a tiny tracker. “I didn’t realize I still had it until you guys mentioned it…”
“Fucking hell, Jeongin…” Minho groans while feverishly shaking his head. “Goddamn it, we’re screwed.”
“We have to make a break for it. It’s the only chance we have.” Chan urges, “Once we get outside the border, they won’t follow us.”
“We have to get there first.” Woojin quickly, with the help of Felix, slices at Jeongin’s neck and removes the metal device. He crushes it in his palm and throws the pieces into the grass, “I say we split up. One group goes left and the other goes-”
You interrupt, “-No. All of us should just go for the gate. Chan can get there first, open it and get us through before they get down here.”
“(Y/N)’s right. We just have to run.” Chan tosses his suitcase to the side. Everyone else follows his lead, eliminating any variables that could decrease your chances of success. You gather into a line with Jisung and Chan at your sides. You throw the bengal a determined look before turning to the awaiting gate.
Bright, intimidating searchlights illuminate your path, almost as if leading you to your doom. You will the negative thoughts to subside and instead focus on the good that will arise out of this. You and the boys will escape. You will be free. You will be happy.
It all comes down to this.
With your heart pulsing in your ears and the thoughts in your mind roaring, you barely hear Chan’s yell:
“Now! Go! Go!”
You take off at the signal, not too far behind Jeongin and Changbin. Jisung, Hyunjin and Felix take up the front and are first to enter the eyes of the lights. Alarms and screams sound within your ears, but you can’t tell if the screams are yours. Chan passes you and the other boys. Like lightning, he dashes straight toward the gate.
Too focused on the wolf, you fail to notice the rocks of the terrain and trip. You go flying and crash rather painfully onto the earth. Your hip screams in pain, the sound traveling past your lips. You almost panic. Key word: Almost.
Minho appears behind you and yanks you to your feet, “Goddamn it, (Y/N)-ah, c’mon! Run, run!”
The boys were already so far ahead of you, maybe seventy five percent of the way to the gate. Still unmoving, you take a peek at the helicopter situation and discover maybe three or fours birds hovering in the night sky. Silhouettes emerge from the open hatch of the closest one and slide down what seems to be a rope ladder. The closer you look, the more you realize how much you underestimated their speed. There had to be at least a dozen guards already on your tail. You check the front and spot Chan and Changbin struggling to force open the gate.
You’ll never make it.
“(Y/N)-ah, what the fuck are you doing!? Run, goddamn it! Run-!”
“-Minho, listen to me!” You take the coyote by the shoulders and shake your head, “I’m the one they want. You guys will be able to get out of here if I-”
Minho hisses, “-Don’t you fucking dare spew your bullshit hero complex right now, (Y/N)-ah. If we get out, we all get out-”
“-It’s not going to happen, Minho! Look around us! We’re surrounded!” You check the distance of the guards again, not happy to find them a lot closer than before. In a matter of minutes, they would reach you and the others hybrids. “Let me save you guys! One last time!”
“I already said it’s not fucking happening! If we go, you go!” With that, Minho grabs your wrist and forces you to move. Chan and Woojin were all working to help each one of the youngsters climb through a hole they were able to create near the top of the gate.
Changbin notices how far behind you and the coyote are and yells, “Minho-hyung! (Y/N)-ah, hurry!”
You both reach the gate faster than you would have thought, but it’s still not enough to separate enough distance between you and the approaching guards. Chan and Woojin help Changbin up and through the exit, followed by Minho.
Chan nods, “(Y/N), help me with Woojin.”
The two of you work together to lift Woojin up. His weight is painful on your already aching body, but you persevere through the pain. The bear manages to squeeze through the hole, and with the help of the hybrids on the either side, land safely. He gestures for you and Chan to come next.
“You first, Chan.”
He shakes his head with a sneer, “I’m not falling for this again, (Y/N). You’re going-”
“-There’s no time to argue! Just-”
A gunshot and Chan’s pained scream disrupt your demand. Your gaze falls to see a bullet wound right in the center of Chan’s calf and you’re quick to support him before he can fall. You shake your head and curse, “Fuck! You have to go now! Right now!”
“I’m not leaving you!”
“Goddamn it, Chan! Guys, help me!”
“No! Get her up first!”
To your disappointment, the other boys follow their leader and through the bars, help Chan raise you so you can reach the hole and crawl through. You collapse to the grass with a loud thud before scrambling to your feet. Just in time, you see the guards fall upon the wolf.
“No! Stop!” You screech, fighting against Minho’s grip on your arms. “I’m the one you want!”
“(Y/N), don’t-“
You wrench from the coyote’s grip and launch up toward the way you came in. Your legs are grabbed before you can crawl back through, but you hold on for dear life. Turning to the closest guard, you scream, “I’ll go with you willingly, if you let him go!”
Chan growls, “No, (Y/N)-“
“-Take me instead!”
The guards all look at each other, seemingly having some sort of telepathic debate. You kick your legs away from the boys just in time for the head guard to nod.
They help you back on the other side before turning to help a screaming and struggling Chan. They manage to push him though and you watch him fall to the grass on the other side with tears of relief. A burden that has remained on your chest for so long finally lifts. And you see nothing but the nine hybrids standing on the other side of the border.
Finally free from Miroh.
Even when fingers close around your arms and yank you away from the gate, you don’t look away. Chan and Minho and all the other’s screams of your name go unheard against the blood rushing through your ears. You don’t even try to struggle, because what’s the point?
Your main objective is already done:
You found Stray Kids, and now they’re finally free.
It’s all over… right?...

——————————————————————————
It’s crazy how fast time goes by when you’re having fun.
Is what I would have said to myself if I was having fun. Now I feel like I would rather be in a pit of snakes then this stupid party Changbin invited me to.
Somehow this man convinced me that it would be a small get together with him and his band mates, but alas, we entered a room full of at least 40 people and nothing but the smell of human sweat and alcohol wafting the air around us.
“What happened to it only being you and the boys?” I ask while eyeing the crowd in front of me. Changbinnie just scoffs. “You know the only way I could get you here was if I told you it was just us. Plus, Jisung practically begged me to invite you because he’s too chicken to do it himself.”
I blush at his statement. I elbow him lightly and start walking towards where Jeongin, Jisung, and Minho were chatting.
A few steps before I reach them Jisung meets my gaze and his puffy cheeks immediately fill with color. Minho notices his eyes are elsewhere and follows them to where I was and smirks while waving at me. All three boys then get up as I make my way to them and make room on the sofa for me to sit.
“Didn’t think Binnie could actually convince you to come.” Minho says while slinging his arm around my shoulder. “Have no fear dear Minho! I was forced to.” Everyone except Jisung laughs at my sarcasm and Minho squeezes me tight before removing his arm from around me and standing up. “I’m gonna get a drink. You guys want anything?” The two boys shake their heads and ask for just water. Minho voices that I'm boring but since he loves me so much I get a free pass.
“So y/n how have you been?” I look away from where Minho had walked off and focused on Jisung who had asked the question. “I’ve been better. Nothing like coming to a party you didn’t want to be at.” He hums in response.
The space got awkward after I said that and I wanted the ground to swallow me whole. Why the fuck did I just say that? “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that Ji.” Still no response. Jeongin then says he’s going to try and find Seungmin and Felix and leaves Jisung and I alone. He gives me a quick glare as if telling me to stop being mean. I roll my eyes at him but speak up anyways. “Y/n, you know that you didn’t have to come if you didn’t want to. No one was actually forcing you.” His hands are messing with the ends of his shirt and I can tell he was getting upset just by his tone of voice. “Hey, I want to be here,” Jisung looks up to watch my expression. “I was just trying to make a joke but that obviously backfired on me didn’t it.”
Jisung’s face softens lightly at my attempt to lighten the mood. Which was epically failing by the way. “I want you to be here too.” We held each other's gaze for a few seconds before Minho’s loud, booming voice was heard from across the room. “Dude what the fuck!” Jisung and I both give worried glances to each other and immeadietly we stand up and rush to where everyone was beginning to gather. My eyes quickly scan the room for 6 particular faces but come up with only the 2 boys I've already seen. I feel a gentle hand being put on my shoulder and turn around to see Jeongin with a scared face on his baby features. “Where are the others?” He just shakes his head and suddenly more yelling can be heard from the guy Minho had spoken up to a few seconds ago.
“Shit we need to get everyone out now.” Luckily Jisung had heard me from the few steps he was in front of me and turned around to spot me and Jeongin looked towards him for guidance. Quickly he steps towards us in a hurry. Placing one hand on my upper bicep and the other on Jeongin’s shoulder. “You guys go find the others and get out of here. I’m going to get Minho and hopefully get him out without any injuries.” “What about you?” My voice is shaky and I can feel my body start to shut down when the yelling gets more and more intense.
Jisung signals Jeongin to leave and go find the others while making sure my eyes are always on him and not the shitshow unraveling behind him. “Hey, y/n, breathe with me okay?” I nod my head and look down at his chest to focus on copying his pattern. His hands gently rub up and down my arms to try and comfort me.“There we go, just like that. In and Out.” Through the pounding in my ears I hear Changbins voice telling Jisung that he has it from here and then I feel the warm comfort of Changbins arms as he leads me out to the car in the parking lot.
Before we fully walk out I turn my head to search for Jisung just to make sure he is okay. When I do find him he already has his eyes on me with an expression of fear coating his face. “Can you breathe better now that we are outside?” Ignoring him completely my heart speaks for me as I say these next words. “We need to go back and get Jisung. What if he gets hurt and we aren't there to help him?” Changbin just sighs and looks back through the open front door of the house. He ruffles the top of my head before telling me he will find him and the others and bring them out.
The cold engulfs me the second Bin leaves and I pull my thin jacket tighter around me to elicit some type of warm comfort.About 10 minutes into waiting for the boys, I tilt my head towards the sky as I felt a raindrop hit the apple of my cheek. “Seriously mother nature!” I yell towards the moving clouds. It only starts to sprinkle but, I don’t doubt the rain to get worse if we are out here long enough.
“Yelling at her doesn’t make it go away you know.” Felix says as all 8 of them walk almost all together out of the chaos that is that house. Minho walks out last with Jisung holding him up. Both boys sported some cuts and bruises to the face and arms. “What the fuck happened in there?” I shout rushing towards the two. Hyunjin began to explain what had happened but my mind fell elsewhere as my hands went to Jisungs face to see how much damage was done.
His eyes sparkle with affection at the way I'm tending to him and he smiles softly at me and leans into my touch. Suddenly my arms wrap around his neck and he stumbles slightly from the impact but his arms go right around my waist to catch me in an air tight hug. “You’re such an idiot. What if you died?” Jisung laughs at the whispered words that fell from my mouth to his ear. “That’s a bit dramatic don’t you think?” He squeezes me tighter when a voice speaks out.
“Hello! I also am injured. Where is my love and affection.” I pull away slightly to see Minho sporting a pout and big puppy eyes. “Awe hyung, why didn’t you just say so.” Hyunjin jumps on him in a back hug and Minho instantly shoves him off. “Not you dipshit!” The whole group laughs at the interaction.
After Chan and I make sure everyone is okay, we all start to walk towards our respected cars. Right as I'm about to walk towards Changbins car, Jisung grabs my arm to pull me towards him. “Can I talk to you for a second?” I look at Changbin and he just waves me off and says he will wait for me in the car.
The rain had now gotten a little bit heavier and I tried to make myself as warm as possible with how much colder it had gotten. Jisung noticed this immeadietly and shrugged off his much heavier jacket to put around my shaking frame. “You’re going to get sick now.” My voice came out quiet, as I found it too hard to speak loudly.
“Don’t worry about me. I needed to talk to you about something, but considering the weather change I will make it fast.” He steps closer to me and brings his arms to close any space between us. I nuzzle my head into his chest, basking in his warmth. “I like you y/n, a lot and I don’t know what I would have done if something happened to you in there.” I bury myself farther into him, and his arms tighten around me as he says these things to me. “I don’t know if you feel the same or not but I just needed to tell you.” The rain began to pour on us and Changbin was yelling at us to wrap it up as he didn't want us to get sick.
Although the rain was strong all I could smell was him, woody with a hint of sweetness. My mind all night has only been about him the moment Changbin told me he basically begged me to be at this stupid party.
Before Jisung can say anything else I press my lips against his in a slow, unsteady kiss. His hands immeadietly go to cup my face gently, kissing me back with equal softness. My knees grow weak as the kiss intensified. His lips felt soft yet a little chapped at the same time. My whole body tingled, the feeling of his body fully engulfing mine felt almost wrong. My hands move to his hips as an anchor to know if this was all in my head or not. Jisungs right hand moved to the back of my head to deepen the kiss and I felt as if the world around me stopped.I was levitating and nothing but Jisung and I were here at this moment.
A car horn screamed at us and I slowly ripped myself away from paradise. “Let’s go shortstack!” Changbin yells through the rolled down window.
Jisung leans his head to the side with a pout on his perfect reddened lips, as if to tell me not to go with him. “Come home with me?” His voice almost unheard through the windy rain surrounding us. I face him and place gentle pecks on his lips which he easily accepts. As I go in for the last peck he stills my head in his hands to keep me in place not wanting this kiss to end. Our mouths moved with ease and I couldn’t stop the smile that spread across my lips. “I would love to come home with you.” Quickly I pull away from Jisungs warmth to tell Changbin that I won’t be needing a ride home.
He scoffs with a smirk adorning his face as he tells me to ‘be safe’. “Oh shut up and drive home safe please.” My body moves away from the car and bumps into a hard chest, arms wrapping around my waist.
I pull Jisungs arms away from me and run to his car with him right behind me. Just as we reach the car I spin around and reach my arms out for him to collect me in a hug. Even though the rin was still pouring down on us, Jisung ran straight into my arms and leaned his face down to look me in the eyes. His eyes glance down at my lips before they travel up to my face, asking for permission. I nodded my head as he closed the gap between us. The kiss was hurried but no less passionate than our first. “Incase you didn’t get the hint,” I spoke as we pulled away from each other.
“I really like you too.”

Stray kids reaction to their s/o moving to Korea
Tumblr media
😳 you probably meant alone but I did it as if their whole family moved because I thought it would make more sense so erm yeah thanks for requesting doll 😳
Bang Chan:
Being in a long distance relationship with the busiest man in the world was real tough, so when your family agreed and made plan to move to Korea, you were ecstatic to spend more time with him, in person! You decided to leave it as a surprise for Chris, telling him you were actually going on holiday which is why you couldn’t talk during the flight. While your family gathered the suitcases, you rang Chan, telling him to get to the airport in Seoul ASAP. He was confused but did so anyway, it was his day off and he had nothing better to do really. He waited in arrivals, seeing on a board that one plane that landed was actually from your country. As soon as that clicked in, you came through, your family behind you. A huge hug later and you told him everything, about you moving out there with your family and how you’d planned a few little dates for you two already. Tbh it was too much for him to take in all at once. When he went to bed that night, he lay there thinking. Everything he ever wanted was going to happen. He could start seeing you more often, maybe he could introduce you to fans now and bring you to some events. Suddenly his bed felt empty, knowing you, realistically, could be filling the space next to him.
Tumblr media
Woojin:
It was just gone midnight when you called him, asking him to answer the ringing doorbell. He did so, still half asleep. He didn’t even wonder wtf was going on or why you were telling him, he just? Did it. You asked him to let you up, which he did along with all you family. When you got to the door, you took a deep breath in. “Woojin? Can you let us in please” you knocked, figuring he must have forgotten to actually open the door to their dorm. Finally realising it was actually you, he rushed to the door, opening it as quickly as possible “y/n? What are you did here? And why is your family here?” He asked, thinking he was dreaming. “We moved in just down the road, sorry we just got here and we don’t have any blankets, could you lend us some please?” He thought for a second “yeah sure I’ll go- WAIT A SECOND” he started, then continuing to laugh in disbelief while asking if you really moved down the road. It didn’t sink in for about a week with Woojin, when you visited him it was usually only for a week so. “Y/n you’re really here, with me, HERE”
Tumblr media
Lee Know:
The awful secret keeper that you are had to tell Minho as soon as you knew everything was finalised. You called him up to tell him the great news but he didn’t seem all that excited down the phone. You heard your sibling calling you from down stairs so you said your goodbyes to Minho, who is usually the one to hang up. This time, however he didn’t. You soon figured it was an accident when you heard screaming and jumping up and down. You heard him rushing around to tell the members, evidently losing breath. It was too cute to put the phone down on him. As soon as you heard “surprise welcome party” you hung up, not wanting to spoil the fun for yourself or him. When it came to you arriving, he opened the door. He looked chill, like he hadn’t be frantically running and jumping around for the past 2 weeks. He first welcomed you in, noting that you weren’t accompanied by your family so he gave you a long kiss. He asked where your family were, then having to come clean about the surprise party for all of you. You knew you had some coming clean to do too, but teasing him for a little wouldn’t hurt, right?
Tumblr media
Changbin:
Oh honey you were tired. Your plane was delayed so you were hours behind schedule so you were planning on going to see Changbin tomorrow to tell him. You were on you way to your new apartment when your family wanted to stop by a cafe near by, the only thing that was open. You found a table while they went and ordered. You were just nodding off while you head rested on you hand when the bell jingled and the door opened. Your boyfriend and his friends, of course it was. “Hey isn’t that y/n?” Chris asked Changbin while he walked over to you. Changbin stood puzzled but accepted your hug. “What are you doing here?” he asked, giving you a peck on your head. As if she’s been waiting for the moment, your mother walked over, telling everyone the great news. Changbin sat in shock while everyone else laughed and celebrated. You made eye contact with him. He mouthed “is it true?” But no matter how many times you told him he still wouldn’t believe you. That night he was allowed to sleep over at your house, promising to give you a tour tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Hyunjin:
Not even knowing how, you’d somehow moved into the building next to theirs. You didn’t even know which building it was until you got there, you parents kept it away from you, knowing you’d go crazy. The first thing you wanted to do was tell you boyfriend. You asked Minho to let you in and show you to Hyunjin’s room. He was fast asleep. You’d never seen him so peaceful and quiet before. You sat on a empty part on his bed, beginning to stroke his head until he started to wake up. “Hi neighbour” you whispered, smiling softly. He rubbed his eyes and pinched himself to check he wasn’t dreaming still. It just wasn’t making sense. “They’re moving in, fool” Minho said, to which you death stared him until he left. “Really?” He asked, knowing there was a flat in the next building that was for sale, then was sold a few days later. “Oh my gosh.” He suddenly woke up. “My new neighbour is my partner! I love you so much I can’t wait to spend every day together!” He hugged your waist and pulled you down onto his bed. You knew this is where you belonged, it his arms, and you couldn’t wait for more of it.
Tumblr media
Han:
He hair fell in front of his heavy eyes. You felt bad for keeping him up so late but he said he wanted to FaceTime you when you “landed in China.” You were actually currently in the car on the way to your new apartment in Korea, jet lag somehow not affecting you. “Jisungieee” you called, waking him up once again. He looked at the screen, noticing some Korean writing behind you. “Hey show me out the window baby” He was suddenly more awake. “Hey that’s the shop down the road from me... y/n are you in Korea?” He asked excitedly but still suspicious. “Maybeee” you answered cheekily. “Why?!” He questioned with even more excitement in his voice, now sorting out his hair too. “If I said we moved would you believe me?” You asked with a smile. Your sibling who was next to you in the car butted in “it’s true Jisung! We moved!” The squeal Jisung let out caused you to turn the volume down on your phone. The whole rest of the call his smile was huge. He began listing off things you pair should go and do. Any time he could, he’d come and see you, no questions asked.
Tumblr media
Felix:
Stupid snap maps. You’d pranked Felix, telling him that the unfamiliar background on your snaps were just because you got lost. Felix, obviously, then checked snap maps for your location to help. That’s when he saw you were in Korea, just by the airport. “When are you coming to visit me y/n? I know you’re in Korea” he snapped you back. You cursed under breath before replying “actually I’m coming to live here so it’s more like when are you coming to visit me?” You were left on read for 3 minutes. Meanwhile Felix at the dorms was FREAKING OUT. He didn’t know whether to believe you but there was a chance which made Felix go crazy. Of course you stopped at the dorms when you had time that day, Felix asking multiple if you’d actually moved. He screamed multiple times before hugging you. “Y/n I can’t believe this, we’re gonna have so much fun!!” He shouted before dragging you into his room to put on some shoes before giving you a tour.
Tumblr media
Seungmin:
Seungmin’s birthday, obviously he wasn’t expecting you but part of him hoped you’d be there. The bell to the dorms buzzed and Seungmin answered like always. You put on your best impression and asked if you could come up to check the heaters. He allowed you up but there was a bit of a problem. The door was too heavy to get into the building, especially since you had a cake in one hand and a present in the other. After about quarter of an hour, you gave up, calling Felix to give you a hand. He did so, happily, and on your way up he asked why you were here. You hadn’t even told your best friend but you couldn’t lie to his face. You had to tell him you had moved. As you reached to dorm’s door, he took the cake off you and opened the door revealing seungmin who was lazily laying on the sofa. “I heard it was someone’s birthday?” You asked causing seungmin to jump up and scream you name in excitement. He hugged you, almost taking your breath away. “Bet you can’t wait to do that everyday?” Felix joked, not knowing you hadn’t told seungmin. He looked at you, bewildered by Felix’s outburst. “I’ve moved... a few buildings down the road... surprise!” At the time all Seungmin could do was hug you again. Mentally he was planning all the different things you guys could now do together, best birthday surprise ever.
Tumblr media
I.N:
“We’re moving to Korea, Jeongin” you said once again down the phone to Jeongin who was currently in Japan on tour. You didn’t really want to tell him like this, but it just kind of slipped out when you were telling him how tired you were because of school and packing. He wanted to scream at the thought of you being in the same country, in the same city even. “When?” He asked all cool calm and collected like he wasn’t about to cry. “Next Tuesday actually” you said guiltily, you’d kept this from him for over a year now. “You get there the same day as us?!” He asked. He was making plans in his head about meeting in the airport and taking you all around Seoul with the rest of the group. “My family will probably be tired. But I won’t, can’t we just spend time together alone?” You asked, hoping you guys could finally talk. “Baby of course, we have our whole lives to do this now!!! God this is so exciting” he somehow let out a keyboard smash down the phone in excitement. You did the same on the other end, excited to finally make some real good memories with your boyfriend.

Risk It All // Hyunjin AU

word count: 2090
genre: idk if you would call it angst,,, maybe some fluff, everything everything inspired au
pairing: reader x hwang hyunjin
Since I could remember I lived inside this house and never left.
If I ever left, there was a high possibility that I would die.
I Y/L/N Y/N have alymphocytosis but it is commonly known as SCID.
What does this mean you may ask? Well due to my crappy immune system any contact with the outside world would put me in risk.
I live with my mother and my only friends are my online friends and home nurse, Chris
Your whole house was equipped with air detoxifiers, hand sanitizer, and other health equipment. Since my mother is a doctor she was able to get the best of the best equipment. But even with my charts saying that I’m getting somewhat better, I feel like I’m in a slurped 24/7.
You took a breath out as you shut your journal and proceeded to lean back in your chair.
Looking outside your window you imagine what life is like out there. What grass felt like? Rain? The power ocean waves. How you wished you could experience it all at least once in your life.
“Hey Y/N, it’s time for your daily check-up,” Chris said as he opened your door.
Ever since you met Chris you knew that he was going to be there for you. He was a couple years older than you so been to many places in his life.
He would always tell you about him snowboard, surfing, skydiving, and many more. The way that he described each activity made it feel like you were there with him. You were so lucky and grateful to have a friend like Chris by your side to let your life through him.
“Okay temperature is normal, blood pressure is normal, and heart rate is normal. Yep Y/N you are completely fine today,” he said taking off the armband.
“Fine enough to go outside?”.
“Haha nice try Y/N, as much I wish you can go outside you know what would happen if you did. Your mother exceptional doesn't want you to go outdoors,” Chris said packing up the tools.
“Do you ever think I’m going to be well enough to ever go outside?” you asked looking up at him.
“I think one day you will be giving the opportunity to go, but right now we have to keep you in so that day will come fastest,” he said setting his hand on your shoulder.
A small smile grew on your face as Chris pulled you in for a hug.
The door beeped and that indicated that your mother was home.
You quickly fanned your eyes to stop the tears from forming.
“Y/N, darling how was your day?” you mother asked setting her bag and key on the kitchen counter.
“It was fine mom, I got all my school work done for the week and according to the Chris everything seems fine”.
“That’s great Y/N,” she said walking up to you and kissing your forehead.
“Chris thank you for taking your time and coming today,”.
“No worry Miss. Y/L/N, I’ll see you tomorrow Y/N,” Chris said putting his bag over his shoulder and waving goodbye to you.
Waving goodbye in returned you hopped down from the bar stool and made your way towards the staircase.
“Oh Y/N off to go do some extra work?” you mother ask lifting her head up from the stack of mail she was looking through.
“Yeah, I’m thinking about getting a head start on the next chapter so I don’t get overwhelmed next week”.
“Okay, remember to be down later for dinner okay?”.
“Don’t worry mom, I’ll be down at 18:30 exactly”.
You walked slowly walked into your room and closed the door behind you.
Deep breath in and then one out you slowly made your way towards the window looking out at the world in front of you.
Reaching out you could feel the wind flowing through your fingers and how you could smell the flowers surrounding you. But then you remember that it was all your imagination playing mind games with you.
A sigh left your mouth as you continued to look outside your window.
A few minutes later a car pulled into the driveway from the house next to your followed by a moving truck.
Looking closer you saw a family getting out of the car, a mother, father, and their son who looked to be a couple years younger than you.
Soon a boy who looked to be about your age maybe older came out from the other side of the car. He was wearing an all-black outfit and looked like he wasn’t really happy to be here. Looking around at his new home he stumbled on you looking at him.
Quickly you hid behind your curtain in the hope that he didn’t spot you. Looking out at the window again you saw that he went inside his house.
Closing your curtains to make sure that no one saw you and continue on with your day.
“Wow safeguard and you got the triple point spot,” you mom said looking at the scrabble board.
“Thank I try,” you said grabbing more scrabble tiles.
The doorbell rang and it filled the quietness of your house.
“I’ll be right back,” as your mother got up from the floor and headed towards the doors.
You were curious as in who would visit you at this late hour.
“Hi, I’m Hyunjin and this is my brother Jisung, our mom wanted to bring over this bundt cake,” he said holding out the cake.
“Thank you,” you mother kind accepted the cake “I hope that you enjoy your life here, have a nice night,”.
Before your mother fully closed to the door you could hear one of the boys say “Is your daughter home?”.
“No she isn’t at the moment, have a nice night now,” you heard her say as the sound of a close door followed.
Quickly you walked about to your seat and sat right down as if you never left. You looked up to your mother as she didn’t talk about the event that just occurred.
How strange was it to have someone visit your house? You couldn’t remember when was the last time someone just randomly came to visit your house. You thought to yourself what was so special that your new neighbors came over, let alone asked if you were home.
The thoughts continued to run in your head as you finished your scrabble game with your mother and headed upstairs for down.
Once in your room, you walked over towards your window and looked at the beautiful world that you wish you could experience.
Across your window was the window from the house next to your and the light inside of it suddenly turned on.
As a silhouette appeared on the wall you wanted to run and hide too, but there was something stopping you.
What if it was the boy that you saw earlier today? The one that was asking about you? The one who was holding a bundt cake?
Suddenly the two of you were face to face. Of course, there was a window and a giant patch of land separating your houses. But he was looking at you and you were looking at him.
The way that his loose button up shirt and pants fitted him so properly, his hair and how it just naturally stayed as if he was a prince or something.
He walked closer to his window and say you.
Since to never have any other interactions with humans, you have no idea what to do.
Zero.
A small wave came from him as a smile formed on his face. He quickly ran around his room looking for a pen and pad. Soon with was back at his window writing something down.
As soon as he flipped with you were surprised by what it said.
“Did you know that squirrels front teeth never stop growing:)”.
You didn’t know what to do or what to think, but all you did was try so much not to burst out into laughter,,, which failed after three seconds.
He then proceeded to write again on his pad. As he flipped it around towards you-you realized that it was a series of numbers. Possibly his phone number?
You reached for your phone and held it up to him making sure you got the right message.
He nodded and that’s when you proceed to enter his number into your phone.
you: hi
unknown: hello :)
The two of you made eye contact again before lower your eyes towards your phone.
unknown: I’m hyunjin, your neighbor,,, clearly.
Raising your head towards him again as he waved again with a smile on his face.
You returned a wave before continuing to text him
you: well hyunjin, nice to meet you virtually? I’m y/n.
hyunjin: nice to meet you y/n,,, quick question, are you on house arrest or something?
you: no it's more complicated than that.
hyunjin: let me guess you are exactly a royal and you are in hiding waiting to betrothed to a royal of another kingdom, BUT no one knows you are a royal so you have to keep hidden until the time has come.
you: I can’t tell if you just took the plot of Tangled or Sleeping Beauty. And if you did what does that say about you?
hyunjin: it tells you how freakin cheesy I am and how I love a good fairytale.
After reading that text you were concern about your sickness and how you would talk about it if Hyunjin asked about it. Looking at him he looked like he came out of a fairytale.
But this wasn’t a fairytale, this was real life. And there no way someone like Hyunjin could ever fall in love with someone like you.
Someone who is trip inside a house.
Someone who isn’t allowed to have company over unless it’s for a medical reason.
Someone who is destined to be alone.
you: it’s getting late and I have school in the morning.
hyunjin: oh will we be going to the stay school?
you: like you said I could be a royal trapped here waiting for the save me. But for now, I'm here with my online classes. goodnight Hyunjin, it was a nice meeting you.
You look at your window once for the last time tonight. Smiling at him you could feel someone happening. You couldn’t explain it but something was happening.
hyunjin: goodnight y/n, it was nice meeting you too:).
As the sun rose the next morning and awaken your tired self, you realize every day from now on wasn’t going to be the same.
Walking over and opening your window curtains you admired the outside world that you wish you explore.
When you were looking out you wonder if Hyunjin was already on his way to school or not.
Soon your phone went off and that made you wonder who would text you so early in the morning.
hyunjin: good morning y/n did you sleep well?
you: I mean it's not really your concern Hyunjin
you: BUT if you want to know soooo badly,,, I slept well thanks for asking.
hyunjin: well if you’re wondering, I slept fine thanks for asking.
you: aren’t you supposed to be on your way to school or something.
hyunjin: I am, I got bored and you're my only friend here.
you: who said that we are friends?
hyunjin: ouch,,, hurtful.
hyunjin: okay how about tonight if you are free we have a movie night and get to know each other
The idea of you and hyunjin getting together scared you,, quickly you thought of something and texted him right away.
you: I’m kinda feeling under the weather to go out to the movie and I don't want to get you sick. Is it possible that we can watch the same movie and text?
hyunjin: How about I call you tonight ;).
The thought of you hearing Hyunjin’s voice sent shivers down your shine.
You hoped that talking to him would make you feel special like a normal teenager. Without the sickness and the strict rules that you have to stay inside 24/7.
You hoped that talking to him would make you feel like you were outside, hoping that he would be able to share the world with you.
And accept you for who you are with or without a sickness.

✧ Summary: You’ve lived in Arbington for a few months now, growing close with many of the townspeople; but the local innkeeper, Woojin, is by far the sweetest of them all.
✧ Word Count: 1.7k
✧ Other installments in the series: chan, jeongin, hyunjin, changbin, minho, jisung, felix, seungmin
                                         ✧
for a majority of your life, you lived in the capital of ylanta
which is the biggest city in the country
you worked as a cook for the royal family
ever since you were little
you had been brought up in the palace itself
alongside your family
who had been serving the royals for generations
I mean sure you were a fantastic cook
even baking the wedding cake for one of the princes
who’s name was lee felix
he was younger than you, but had an arranged marriage
he warned you that things were going downhill fast
hence the marriage to a princess from a foreign land
to sum it up, he gave you permission to be dismissed from the royal family’s cast of service
and lent you enough money to purchase land outside of the city
so you left
you couldn’t help even if you wanted to
in fact, more damage would’ve occurred had you meddled
anyway
you travelled south for about three weeks
renting a carriage from one of the stablemen, Changbin
he gladly took you to a small town he had heard of
called arbington
apparently, one of felix’s childhood friends from worcester, jeongin, had moved there recently to be an apprentice to a shopkeeper
and only spoke good things of the town
he mentioned that there was an inn you could stay at
while you looked for purchasable land
the second you arrived, you knew deep down that this had the potential to be your home
a real, amazing home
you took changbin’s advice and immediately walked over to the local inn
it seemed to be quite popular with the townspeople
with a good crowd sat around the fireplace just
laughing and having a good time
so you went up to what you guessed was the front counter
and waited for the man who was chatting with a pair of two other customers, seemingly close friends
when his eyes caught yours, he quickly dismissed his friends and gestured for you to come closer to the wooden counter
you hesitated a bit, not exactly the best at socializing with strangers since you had grown up solely in the palace
so basically you were a wee bit of a recluse
as if he could sense your wariness, the man planted a warm, welcoming smile upon his lips and stood a bit straighter
“welcome to the honey inn, how can I help you?” he asked softly, his voice smooth like
well
honey
you fight off an embarrassed blush, knowing that you had to be radiating awkwardness
“erm, my name is y/n, I was hoping to book a room for a while”
“for how long, mam?”
“I uh... I’m not too sure, actually. I’m looking to buy some property around here if at all possible.” you explain to the innkeeper, running your fingers through your hair nervously
the man hums in understanding and nibbles on his bottom lip as if in thought
“sure, you can rent a room, we have plenty of space. here, let me show you to your room.” he walks out from behind the counter, tilting his head and gesturing for you to follow him
so you do
once he reaches your room, he gently hands you a tiny, golden key
“oh, my name is woojin by the way!”
so a few months pass
how many, you’re not too sure
but all you know is that you absolutely love arbington
no one judges you for practically living in the inn still
instead they treat you like a normal human being - a friend
you’ve befriended bang chan and jeongin, the two guys who had been chatting with woojin when you first arrived all that time ago
speaking of woojin
he’s by far the sweetest man you’ve ever met
(besides felix)
(but he was still a baby in your eyes, kinda like jeongin)
(who you took under you wings)
woojin generously offered to help you in your search for property in arbington
you were both baffled by the lack of land available
woojin insisted it had to be because property prices were rising since the royal family had started messing with royalties and taxes
you figured the kind innkeeper would’ve gotten tired of you some time ago
but he hadn’t
or at least
he hadn’t verbalized it
since you two were the sole ‘residents’ constantly living inside the inn, you both naturally grew close
closer than you expected
not - not that you were complaining
woojin was sweet, kind, funny, handsome, passionate-
okay you fell for him what can I say
it just kinda hit you out of nowhere one night
when he was trying
(keyword trying)
to bake a cake for jeongin’s birthday by the request of chan
only reason chan went to woojin instead of you was because you uh... hadn’t exactly told anyone where it was you came from
fully, at least
whenever the topic was brought up, you simply lied through your teeth and said you were from ylanta
which I mean isn't technically a lie
moving on
you walked into the kitchen of the inn, smiling and waving at a few of the patrons curled up by the fire and drinking some wine as you passed by them
politely declining their offers to sit down and have a few drinks
the first thing you saw was poor woojin dipping his hands into a pot of water, his lips turned into a soft pout
his eyes crinkled in pain
almost immediately you jog over to him and grab onto his elbow in concern
“what happened woo?” you asked him quickly, wincing when he brings his hands out of the water to reveal one of them slightly burnt an angry red color
“I - I was trying to put the cake in the oven a-and touched the rack on accident” he whimpers, still clearly in pain with little tears pricking into the corner of his eyes
you rush over to a barrel full of herbs and rummage through it
looking for a specific herb you knew had soothing properties, especially for minor burns
once you find it, you go over to a countertop and start to smoosh the herb into a sickly pink paste
when its done you apply the paste onto woojin’s hand
being as gentle as you possibly can as to not cause him any more pain
you didn’t notice, but the entire time, woojin was staring down at you in complete awe and admiration
for the longest time he had known that you were one of the sweetest people he had the pleasure of meeting
always greeting the customers with bright, friendly smiles and enthusiastic waves
even playing with the younger kids when their parents had to leave for a bit or got a little bit too tipsy
for the past few weeks he had started to realize how much he truly cared for you
and whenever you tried to pay your rent for the room, he would refuse and insist that since you were a dear friend, he didn’t need your money
the room was his gift to you
soft hours
he’s so out of it thinking about you that he doesn’t even notice you leaving and coming back in with a roll of bandages
he watches as you carefully wrap his hand with the soft, cream colored material
which kinda sorta makes you blush a little under his intense gaze
hoping he doesn’t notice your red tinted cheeks, you look up from his bandaged hand, the tips of your fingers grazing his
“tell you what woo, let me finish up the cake”
“deal”
“but there wasn’t a deal-”
“go put the damn cake in before I do it myself and have another burnt hand, y/n” he chuckles
to which you playfully roll your eyes and go do as he suggests
even as you push the pan into the heated oven and stand up from your previously crouched position
you feel the stare of woojin on your back
naturally your cheeks grew even redder, now resembling the daunting color of a tomato
“say, sweetheart, how’d you know that serpent daisies could soothe my burn?” the blonde questions you, his voice hinted with overlapping curiosity
so you end up stuttering on your response before you explain everything
e v e r y t h i n g
about how you grew up with just your family in the palace and became good friends with one of the princes himself
along with his stableboy
at first you guessed that woojin might be offended that you hadn’t told him sooner
but instead he laughed softly under his breath and stepped closer to you
wrapping his burly arms around your shorter body and pulling you into his chest
“calm down sweetheart, its nothing to worry about. your little secret is safe with me” he hums next to your ear, causing you to involuntarily shiver
and in that moment it dawns on you that the cheeky bastard was fucking smirking at you
your heart was beating a thousand miles a minute and your tomato red cheeks certainly weren't helping your case
a few more moments pass, the stretching silence oddly...
comfortable
then woojin takes his bandaged hand and uses it to tilt your chin upwards so your gazes meet
“y/n, can I - fuck okay - can I kiss you? please?” he stutters out quietly, nearly inaudibly
and you can’t help but instinctively part your lips
which he takes as a yes
so he leans down just enough to press his soft, pink lips against yours
both of you are a bit nervous to kiss the other, but the two of you still stand there, lips connected but not exactly moving
until you finally pluck up the courage to nibble on his bottom lip and poke your tongue out between his lips
causing him to let out a gasp borderlining a moan
when you both eventually pull away for some air, there is another comfortable silence
now filled with the warmth of affection
“... can I please kiss you again, love?”
“of course, honey bear”
and when he connects your lips again, you’re the one letting out a soft gasp of surprise when one of his hands happens to drift down your back and brush against your backside
and you can definitely feel his own lips twitching into a mischievous yet oddly sweet smirk
