Hey everyone! Step Out is back after two years! To be honest, I had a hard time writing Step Out since the allegations against Woojin started coming up and it didn’t change after the allegations turned out to be fake. I just couldn’t keep the story the way it was so I decided to replace Woojin by an OC. And since I was already changing things I went ahead and made some more changes (like also replacing Jae by an OC), edited everything I had uploaded and so on. I feel way more comfortable writing Step Out now so I hope that the next update won’t take quite as long. Until then, please enjoy the 9th chapter 💕
Chapter 9 - The burden of secrets
Numbers. So many goddamn numbers. A whole damn block of them. As though the mission wasn’t enough already. It’s all so damn overwhelming. Missions require all the concentration and energy Minho can muster and they always leave his brain exhausted, drained and lazy. And now he has to decipher the fucking message in this condition. He’s been fiddling around on his phone and sharpening pencils for ages now. Minho sighs as he peeks over to the sheet of paper on his desk, trying to get himself to get to work.

His head hurts just thinking about deciphering all of that. The first message was already a pain in the ass and the prospect of more and more and more messages like this is daunting. Why did he agree to that anyways? Talking is so much easier. Why does this shit have to be so complicated? Minho should probably make a table. So far, he hasn’t had the time for that, and he had hoped to avoid it for safety reasons. But the more he thinks about it, the more he feels like it can’t be avoided. He really underestimated how much work these messages would be. Minho sighs once again while he gets the writing pad from the drawer and places it on the table next to the message. He takes a pencil and a ruler and starts drawing his grid before gradually filling it. Letter by letter, code by code.
After an hour or so the whole thing is finally complete – at least Minho guesses it was an hour. Time runs as fast as a snail when you try to figure out what the letter Q looks like in your secret code. Minho hates that the code has to be this complicated, but it’s safety first and convenience second in this situation. They mustn’t risk the DIT spying into their communication. If anyone was to find the messages, they would surely give them over to that hell hole of an organisation. Just like the government expects of a ‘good citizen’.
Needing a bit of a change for his tortured brain, Minho decides to put everything aside for now and go downstairs into the kitchen. As expected, Spear B, Felix and Jisung have already started preparing dinner. The sweetest smile spreads over Jisung’s face when he spots Minho in the doorway and gestures for him to come over.
“How is it going?” How is it possible for someone to be this beautiful while peeling a carrot? If B and Lux weren’t here, Minho would love to hug Jisung right now. It would be so lovely to be in Jisung’s embrace, feel his warmth and just forget about his code-wrecked brain. But they aren’t alone. The others’ presence feels like a dark shadow looming over Minho.
“It’s exhausting,” Minho admits. “I wish there was an easier way, but meeting Virus regularly would be too dangerous even if he takes turns with Mercury.”
Jisung hums in understanding. “Then you’re here to take a break? I’m sure we’ll find something for you.”
“Yes please. I really need to get my mind off things a little.”
Without hesitation, Felix grabs his cutting board and sets it down in front of Minho. “Have fun.” His voice sounds overly sweet and the wateriness of Felix’s eyes gives Minho a pretty solid idea of what his task is going to be. Minho’s fear is confirmed when he looks down and is met with stinging in his own eyes. Onions. That explains why Felix was so quick to leave and find himself something else to do. Cutting onions definitely isn’t Minho’s favourite task, but at this point every distraction from that damn code is welcome. Even onions.
“Should have known I’d end up with that.” Despite the tears already forming in his eyes, Minho picks up the knife and gets to work. With the four of them all going about their tasks, they’re soon done preparing everything and can get to cooking, which Felix takes upon himself despite Minho’s protests. From then on Minho, Jisung and B are basically… useless. Everything they can do is keep Felix company and occasionally hand him ingredients. Jisung and Spear B soon start chatting with Felix occasionally chipping in when he isn’t too busy. Minho doesn’t have much to contribute except for a few sentences here and there. His mind is running a mile a minute and is completely empty at the same time. There’s so much to do, so much to think about, but Minho can’t seem to focus on anything. So many 0s and 1s are still circling through his brain.
“Dinner should be done soon,” Felix says before turning towards them. “Can one of you set the table?”
“On my way,” Minho says without hesitation. He is already getting plates from the cupboard when Jisung, who has been sitting on the kitchen counter since he finished peeling carrots, scoots over to him.
“Can I give you a hand?” When he sees Jisung like this, Minho almost forgets they had a mission today. Jisung looks calm and cosy in his oversized sweater that Minho is pretty sure is actually his own. He has been stealing more and more clothes from Minho lately, which should be annoying. But Minho finds it weirdly endearing. He could probably get his clothes back if he really wanted to, though he really prefers seeing them on Jisung over having them wait for him in the closet.
“Sure.”
Jisung slides down from the counter, helps Minho gather everything they need and carry it over to the dining room. Minho is about to go back to the kitchen and get glasses for them when Jisung stops him with a hand on his wrist. The little touch has Minho’s body shift down from forcing himself to function into just existing. He can finally let himself feel his tiredness and exhaustion without pushing it away. When Jisung tugs at his arm, Minho lets his heavy body be pulled away from the archway leading to the kitchen, into the privacy of the little dining room. “Are you okay?” Jisung’s pretty eyes are full of worry as he takes a closer look at Minho. “You seem so quiet.”
“Yeah it’s okay. I’m just exhausted and that message is eating my last brain cells.”
Jisung hums like he’s trying to come up with a way to make it better. Minho simply steps closer and lets his head drop onto Jisung’s shoulder. After a moment Jisung slings his arms around Minho and holds him close. Having Jisung hug him lets Minho forget about the code, about the table, about Felix and B in the kitchen, about everything. It feels like Jisung knocked over the glass of his mind and let all the stuff keeping him busy pour out before setting it down again. After a while Jisung starts humming a low tune and lightly swaying them back and forth. Minho can’t help but giggle as he closes his eyes and allows himself to sink deeper into Jisung’s embrace.
“You guys are taking ages. Do you need help with setting the table?” Hearing Spear B’s voice makes Minho tense up. He gives Jisung a quick slap on the butt that has Jisung smile to himself before stepping away from him. When Minho heads back into the kitchen, Jisung follows close behind him and helps him finish setting the table just in time for lunch to be ready.
Minho feels a lot more at ease when they’re eating. The weight of the day feels a little lighter now that he gets to have a break for once. Since Felix did most of the actual cooking, B and Jisung volunteer to do the dishes after dinner. Though hesitant, Minho goes back to decoding after clearing the table for them. He still isn’t enthusiastic about having to work again, but Minho’s brain definitely feels fresher after a bit of distraction and a tad of Jisung. Hopefully working with the code will be easier now that he has a table. He’ll just have to be a bit more careful now so nobody else gets their hands on it.

“Don’t stop.” Younghyun cracks an eye open to look up at Liam. Thankfully his request works and makes his boyfriend go right back to patting Younghyun’s hair.
“I should have gotten a dog instead.” Despite his words, Liam doesn’t stop or makes a move to get Younghyun’s head off his lap. “A dog would just fall asleep after five minutes and I could watch TV in peace.”
“A dog can’t cook dinner for you.” Noticing Liam directing a critical look at the empty pizza boxes, Younghyun quickly adds. “Not even on a good day.” As much as he loves cooking with Liam, after hearing that Jungkook is injured and having to deliver the news to Bambam Younghyun had been happy to just drop onto the couch and eat. He still feels exhausted, but it doesn’t matter anymore. Younghyun’s home.
“You underestimate my ability to teach a dog tricks.”
“My bad, I forgot your secret career as a dog trainer.” Younghyun fully opens his eyes and grins up at his boyfriend, who shakes his head and focuses on the TV again. “Speaking of dinner, Chan accepted the invitation. Is tomorrow alright?”
“Sure, I can go grocery shopping after work if we still need anything.” It takes a while before the question Younghyun was already expecting follows. “Any idea what we’ll cook?”
The same old problem. It’s been years and yet the struggle of ‘What can we cook?’ never gets any easier. “No, you?”
“Nope.”
“Fuck.” He and Liam start giggling. Younghyun really should have expected this when he invited Chan over. Deciding what they want to have for dinner is already hard enough when it’s just the two of them, but guests always make it even more difficult because they can’t bullshit their way through it and hope the result is edible. “I could ask Chan if he has any preferences.”
Liam gasps in fake surprise. “You’re a genius.”
“Bet a dog wouldn’t have been able to come up with that.” Younghyun chuckles.
“That’s it. Get off my lap.” It’s obvious Liam isn’t serious, but Younghyun sits up nonetheless and shifts to sit next to Liam. As soon as that’s done, he leans closer to kiss Liam’s cheek. Liam seems almost surprised. A little smile fills his face before morphing into a slightly suspicious frown. “What did you do?”
Younghyun rolls his eyes. Obviously, he cannot possible show affection if he didn’t screw up and accidentally wash a red sock with the white laundry. “Nothing. Just trying to thank you for your helping with delivering the news to my unit. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Liam’s gaze softens. “It was still you doing all the work,” he insists. “I just did my part to calm you down for that.”
Younghyun only hums in agreement. They don’t need any more words. Just locking eyes is enough for Younghyun to know Liam understands how important his support was even if he’s playing it down.
It’s Liam who eventually breaks the warm silence between them. “We should go to sleep. If we can’t manage to have a healthy sleeping schedule, you should at least get some rest after missions.”
Sadly he does have a point with that. Younghyun feels utterly exhausted after the mission and the situation surrounding Jungkook. It takes a bit of effort to get up from the couch, but they eventually make their way to the bathroom to get ready for bed. While they brush their teeth Younghyun watches Liam, who is already stripped down to his briefs and one of Younghyun’s shirts, run his hand through his hair, probably deciding that the dye needs to be freshened up in the near future. To anyone else the situation would look so mundane. But seeing Liam in all his half-dressed glory with toothpaste on his lips has Younghyun feel warm and fuzzy inside. The earlier ‘I’ll see you at home.’ is still present in his mind, because nothing describes what Liam is to him like the word home. Being with Liam makes Younghyun feel safe and at peace. No matter what happens, what might shake up their lives, they handle it side by side. Just like they have been doing for the past seven years already.
Younghyun is snapped out of his thoughts when Liam slaps him on the ass. “Did you fall asleep with your eyes wide open? You know you’re supposed to lie down and close your eyes first, right?”
“So that’s what I’ve been doing wrong,” Younghyun mutters while following Liam into their bed. He straddles Liam’s waist and bends down to kiss him while carding his hand through Liam’s chestnut coloured hair. When he pulls back, Liam has the softest smile on his face. They stay like this for a while, looking at each other, Younghyun twirling a strand of Liam’s hair around his finger. If it was an option for them, Younghyun would have asked Liam to marry him then and there. It’s not like either of them needs a ring or certificate whatever – the thought is kind of ridiculous to be honest – but the thought of making it official that they want to spend the rest of their lives together is kind of nice regardless. Though as things stand, they wouldn’t be able to get married no matter if they wanted to or not. At least not here.
“You know that I love you, right?”
“I do.” Liam chuckles. “Love you too, you sap.” Younghyun kisses Liam again and wishes him a good night before sliding out of Liam’s lap and into bed next to him. He falls asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow knowing that he’s home.

Jisung stops in the door frame to their room when he sees Minho still bent over the desk. Minho looks fully concentrated and totally exhausted at the same time, which is a shame considering how relaxed he had seemed after dinner. Did the little break change anything at all? How Jisung wishes he could do more for Minho. He already puts his all into supporting Minho, cheering him up and making sure he relaxes after a hard day. But it never feels like enough, especially not when Minho looks this worn out. “What are you up to?”
Minho jumps up like a scared deer and immediately scrambles to cover his notes with his arms and upper body. It’s a strange sight, like he’d defend those notes with his life. “Sungie. I thought you and Spear B were doing the dishes.”
Jisung carefully steps into the room and closes the door after himself. “We’re done?” This is odd. Jisung understands if he scared Minho because Minho was focused and didn’t hear him come in. But this? It’s almost as if he’s trying to hide something from Jisung. What can be so drastic about those papers that Jisung isn’t allowed to catch as much as a glimpse of them? “Is something the matter? You seem weird…”
“No, it’s nothing. It’s just that I made myself a table for deciphering the code.” Minho leans back in his chair, giving up his defence over the stack of paper. Though he turns them around nonetheless. He still refuses to let Jisung see a thing of what he’s written down. “I mean you know the drill. If you end up getting questioned about this-”
“The less I know the better.” Jisung scoffs as he walks over to the bed and lets himself fall down onto it. This is so frustrating. Even though he’s kind of relieved Minho isn’t keeping any actual secrets from him, it sucks that Jisung isn’t allowed to learn the code. He wishes he could help Minho with deciphering or writing messages or do anything else useful aside from assisting Minho in planning.
“Jisung…” Worry sounds through Minho’s voice as he gets up, follows Jisung to the bed and crouches down on the floor in front of him. Just hearing Minho say his name pushes the negative feelings back a bit. No matter how chaotic and awful things around them might get, at the very least they’ll always have each other. Things between them have been going so well. They used to spend basically every free minute together anyways, but they’ve become even closer since they’ve been living here together.
“Don’t worry about it. I’ll just read a bit while you work on the messages.”
“You sure?” Minho’s gaze is so gentle that just looking into his eyes releases a swarm of butterflies in Jisung’s stomach. Jisung wonders if he’ll ever fully get used to the way he melts into a puddle around Minho.
“Yeah. Now hurry up and get everything done. The sooner you’re back the sooner can I start cuddling you.”
“True.” Minho is smiling when he rises from the floor again. He stops midway to place a little kiss on Jisung’s lips. “Can’t wait.” Jisung can’t wait either. The thought of burying his face in Minho’s chest and breathing in Minho’s scent while they snuggle as close as they can already feels so wonderful. It will be like heaven to fall asleep in Minho’s arms after the mission. Damnit, Minho really needs to hurry and finish those messages.
“I’m rooting for you!” Jisung calls. The chuckle sends a little tremble through Minho’s shoulders, which is the most endearing thing ever. Jisung takes a moment to look at Minho’s back, basks in the warm feeling that spreads through his chest from being around his boyfriend. It never ceases to amaze Jisung how strong Minho is. Everyone feels exhausted after their missions yet here Minho is, still fulfilling his duties even though he probably wants to just fall into bed and sleep more than anyone. It’s so much work to plan their missions and it must be even more tiring to keep track of everyone and everything during the mission itself. How Minho can stay on top of it all is beyond Jisung’s comprehension.
Deciding to stay true to his words, Jisung gets up from the bed, walks over to the book shelve by the windows and starts looking through everything. Since this is – or rather used to be – the bedroom of Changbin’s parents, most of the books are… not really to Jisung’s liking. There’s stuff about business tactics, handling human resources, and ways to relax at work as well as literary classics that bore Jisung just from looking at them. The depressing choice of books makes Jisung glad he decided keep some books he stole from Changbin’s sister on the nearby side board. Jisung picks one that looks interesting, lies down on the bed again and starts reading.
The book isn’t quite as good as Jisung had hoped –well, it’s only the beginning anyways – but it keeps him busy. After a while, there’s shuffling at the desk, which immediately makes Jisung peeks over the pages of his books. Minho rips a piece from a blank sheet of paper and starts noting down his reply. Even from across the room, Jisung can tell Minho is hurrying. As soon as it’s done, he jumps up, turns around and proudly presents the note to Jisung.

Jisung doesn’t know what it says, the only meaning that matters to him is that Minho comes towards him with big steps. Jisung barely has time to put the book in his hands aside before Minho is already tackling him in a hug. They nestle together, Minho lying on top of Jisung like a blanket. Jisung wraps his arms around Minho and starts rubbing his back in slow, soothing motions. “Are you going to bring that note to your mailbox today?”
“No, it can wait until tomorrow morning. I just have to make it before Virus’ shift,” Minho mumbles into the crook of Jisung’s neck. “I just want to sleep now.”
“You can’t sleep fully clothed though.” Jisung emphasises his point by pulling at the elastic of Minho’s sweatpants before letting it snap against his skin.
“Sure I can.” Minho already sounds half asleep. “Just watch me.”
Seeing no other way to motivate his boyfriend, Jisung pushes Minho off of him, earning himself a frustrated whine. Giggling, Jisung rolls Minho onto his back, gets onto his knees and pulls Minho up by the arms. “Come on.” Minho still pretends to be annoyed by Jisung’s attempts to get him out of bed, making himself deadweight in Jisung’s arms. But the smile on his lips says otherwise.
“You could just undress me here.”
“Tempting,” Jisung admits. “But I can’t brush your teeth here.” Minho groans in annoyance when Jisung finally succeeds in hoisting Minho off the bed and into a standing position. Thinking that this will be enough, Jisung turns to walk away, but is stopped by arms circling his waist. With Minho basically glued to his back, Jisung drags both of them to the bathroom.

Jungkook’s mind feels fuzzy when he wakes up to a dark room. He can’t even remember going to bed last night. Except this isn’t his bed. Or his bedroom. Where is he? Where else would he be? Is he staying over at someone else’s place? Once Jungkook’s eyes are used to the darkness he takes a look around himself. This is a hospital room. And he’s the patient. He vaguely remembers waking up in the recovery room and that he was transferred, but he must have passed out again right after. What happened?
And what’s that sound? Water? Why would water be running in the middle of the night? Jungkook tries to sit up, but the pain in his leg stops him. He remains propped up on his elbows to take another look around the room. He got a single bed room, so there’s no roommate who could be showering at absurd hours. It could be from next door though? That’s probably it, right? What else would it be? Jungkook lets himself fall back onto the bed and closes his eyes. He’s so damn tired. No matter he much he must have slept already if it became night in the meantime, he doesn’t feel the least bit refreshed.
Suddenly the water stops followed by the sound of the shower door opening and the rustling of a towel. It’s too loud to be from a different room. But who would be here? The walls are probably just thinner than Jungkook would have thought. He should be sleeping instead of worrying his head over weird noises. Jungkook is about to doze off when the bathroom door creaks, making Jungkook snap his eyes open and – for lack of a better memory – try to sit up again. Fucking shit.
“Hey, careful.” Jimin rushes closer to his bed. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes…” Jimin? Why is Jimin here? He was on the ambulance with Jungkook, right? Yes, if nothing else Jungkook definitely remembers Jimin holding his hand in the ambulance. But what is he doing in Jungkook’s room? Jungkook looks up at Jimin, only now noticing the towel hanging over Jimin’s shoulders. His gaze wanders farther up to Jimin’s hair that is dripping water onto his shirt. Jimin showered in his hospital room? “What are you doing here?”
“You don’t remember?” Jimin chuckles while pulling a chair over to the bed and sitting down beside Jungkook. “We talked after you woke up. I asked you if I could shower here and you said it was fine.”
“Uhm.” Jungkook’s mind is completely blank. He can’t remember waking up before or talking to Jimin, but he can’t imagine that Jimin would lie about something like that. Why would he, anyways? “I don’t know. I guess I fell asleep right after.”
“Looks like it. Sorry if I startled you.” A warm smile takes over Jimin’s face. How come he looks so gorgeous without even doing anything? There’s something so gentle and cosy about seeing Jimin freshly out of the shower wearing a plain, white shirt. Immediately, Jungkook’s thoughts start wandering again. He remembers the way Jimin held his hand in the ambulance, how much strength Jimin’s presence was giving him. If he focuses, he can still feel Jimin’s warmth. As much as Jungkook would love to stay right here, look at Jimin and wallow in memories, he really needs to get to the bathroom. Now. But he doesn’t even manage to get out of bed before pain jolts through his leg once again.
“Wait.” Jimin jumps up, fetches a pair of crutches from the end of the bed and hands them to Jungkook. “Do you need any help?” Even now that Jungkook’s injury has been taken care of, Jimin is still worrying about Jungkook.  Jungkook would find it sweet if he wasn’t so busy feeling guilty about it.
“I don’t know.” Jungkook is still wobbly when he gets up, but he somehow manages to get himself standing on his intact leg. Despite this, Jimin doesn’t seem totally convinced that he’s fine. He follows every single one of Jungkook’s slow steps as though he fears Jungkook might collapse any second. Jimin even pushes the bathroom door open for Jungkook, which is when Jungkook stops for a moment. “I think I can do the rest by myself.”
“You sure?” Jimin’s voice is smug as he tilts his head to the side and looks at Jungkook in a way that has Jungkook weak in his knees. And that’s even though he can barely see Jimin in the darkness of the hospital room. This is really the wrong moment to be whipped, Jungkook needs every bit of his strength his legs have in stock.
“Yes.” Jungkook definitely is sure. He’s never been surer in his life. A mere second later, Jimin breaks into giggles and goes to sit down in his chair again. Jungkook almost sighs in relief. He doubts his pride would survive Jimin helping him on the toilet. When Jungkook returns Jimin is still sitting in the chair, which almost surprises Jungkook. Part of him thought he might be having hallucinations from the anaesthesia. It’s only now that Jungkook realises Jimin is still in his uniform pants. The jacket that goes with it hangs from the back of the chair Jimin is sitting on.
“Is something wrong?” Jimin asks after Jungkook has apparently looked at him for a bit too long. His voice goes back to sounding worried so quickly it really bothers Jungkook. He doesn’t want to worry Jimin, especially not with something as simple as spacing out for a moment.
“You’ve been here the entire time?”
Jimin briefly looks down on himself before nodding. “Yeah. I didn’t want you to be alone.” He runs his hand through his still damp hair. “Besides I still need to interrogate you and report to the Corporal. That can wait until tomorrow though. You need to rest now.”
“So do you.” Jungkook finally makes his way back to the bed. In an instant, Jimin is back by his side, helps him lift his injured leg onto the mattress and get comfortable again. Jimin pulls his chair even closer, right next to the bed, and takes Jungkook’s hand into his just like he had done in the ambulance. Immediately, Jungkook’s cheeks starts heating up. Hopefully Jimin can’t see him blush in the dark. Gosh, why does Jungkook have to be so nervous because of something so simple? Jimin always makes him feel like some stupid teenager having his very first crush.
“I’m really glad you’re fine, Jungkook-ah.”
“Thank you.” What else could he say to that? Jungkook has no idea how he even manages to keep his voice in check, but he’s grateful for himself. At least that part of talking still works. Jimin holding his hand is still so foreign and it makes Jungkook’s heart race like crazy. How come this is actually happening for the second time in one day? “What did the doctors tell you?” Great. Change the topic when he’s getting emotional. Perfect. Exactly what Jungkook really wants.
“Not much,” Jimin admits. “Just that surgery went well and that you should be back on track in a few weeks. I’m sure they’ll tell you everything in more detail tomorrow.”
“Yeah.” Jungkook still has no idea what to say. Usually conversations with Jimin are so easy, but now there’s this strange tension. It’s not a bad one per se, but one that’s way more emotional than anything they’ve shared before. This is probably just because of the shock, Jungkook tells himself, Jimin must have been worried about losing a member of his unit. Jungkook tries his best to ignore the part of him that just wants to pull Jimin close and kiss him when Jimin absentmindedly rubs his thumb over the back of Jungkook’s hand. The little, maybe meaningless, gesture feels so damn intimate. Jungkook really needs to get a hold of himself, just because Jimin is holding his hand doesn’t mean he wants anything beyond that. But obviously, Jimin isn’t going to let getting a grip be easy.
“We should go to sleep now.” Seeing Jimin’s gentle smile in the dark, alongside his low voice and the words he’s saying make Jungkook’s mind run crazy. Even though he highly doubts Jimin is going to lie down next to him, Jungkook immediately wonders what it would be like. He’d give everything to experience going to bed with Jimin, seeing him in one of Jungkook’s shirts, hugging him from behind and making him smile by whispering ‘Good night.’ into his ear. Fuck, Jungkook should not be having these kinds of thoughts about his Lance Corporal.
“You’re right. Good night, Jimin-ah.” Jungkook kind of expected Jimin to complain about the lack of honorifics the way he usually does. But today he just shakes his head and smiles. What’s with him today? Jungkook isn’t sure whether he should be relieved or sad when Jimin eventually lets go of his hand. Though Jungkook is sure he doesn’t like it when Jimin retreats to his chair, despite expecting it. Even with the way Jimin leans back, it doesn’t seem comfortable in the least. He can’t really lie down, he doesn’t have any kind of blanket and without any kind of armrests, chances are Jimin might just tip over to the side. Jungkook feels kind of bad for making Jimin sleep like that. It doesn’t matter that none of this was Jungkook’s idea, Jimin decided it all on his own. “The bed is big enough, you know? You could lie down with me.” Oh dear lord, did Jungkook really just suggest they share a hospital bed?
The beat of silence that passes afterwards makes Jungkook’s nervousness so much worse. Was that offer too much? Did he make things weird? He went too far, didn’t it? Maybe Jungkook should have just kept quiet. But then again, there’s no harm asking right? It’s the least he can do when Jimin takes care of him like that. “That’s nice,” Jimin eventually replies. “But I think it would be safer if I stayed in the chair. I don’t want to hurt you while we sleep.”
“Ah right…” The answer makes Jungkook feel a little stupid. Of course Jimin wouldn’t lie down in bed with him. He shouldn’t have suggested that.
“It still hasn’t set in that you’re injured, huh?” When Jimin smiles all the negative thoughts come to a halt. Jungkook just really likes Jimin’s eye smile, when his eyes nearly disappear and his full lips curl up.
“Not really,” Jungkook admits. “Everything happened so fast.” One moment Jungkook was still going after I.N, the next Bora is dragging him out of the building. Something that happened in a matter of second will take him weeks to recover. It seems so ridiculous.
“I’m sure you’ll come to terms with everything once you have a bit of time to yourself.”
“Yeah maybe.” Even when Jimin wishes him a good night once again, leans back in his chair and closes his eyes, Jungkook has trouble looking away from him. Despite all the complicated feelings that come with it, Jungkook is really glad Jimin is here. He wouldn’t have wanted to be alone after this mess. Wasn’t that exactly want Jimin was going for? That Jungkook wouldn’t feel like he’s all by himself after everything that has happened? “Thank you for being here, it means a lot,” Jungkook mutters, a smile tugs at Jimin’s lips but he doesn’t say anything. Jungkook doesn’t know for how long he continues looking at Jimin until he finally falls asleep.

“Good morning you two. I’m Lance Corporal Kang Dongho of battle team unit C.” Despite the cheerful smile and friendly tone, Chan feels kind of intimidated by the man standing in front of them. Lance Corporal Kang is only a little taller than Chan, but with a noticeably broader built. And he’s definitely way more muscular than both Chan and Kwangsun. Aside from his physical appearances, just the words “battle team” leave an uneasy feeling in Chan’s gut. He still hasn’t forgotten the looks they got on their first day. Though at the very least, he can’t remember Lance Corporal Kang being among the people who death glared at them. So Chan has hope that the Lance Corporal wasn’t completely forced to work with them and may have even volunteered to work with them. One is allowed to dream after all. “The Corporals and Sergeant Park decided that it would be good for you to come along when our division marches out. It’s my task to make sure you are prepared for that.”
“We will go on missions with you guys?” Sitting in the office and being asked questions is one thing, but going out and actively fighting Stray Kids is different. Would they have to carry guns like the real DIT members? Would they have to shoot if they came across one of the members? The thought makes Chan’s blood freeze. He can’t do that. He can’t point a gun at them. He can’t go that far.
But he has to. Chan was resolved to do everything it takes, he mustn’t back down now.
“Exactly. Sergeant Park thinks it will be good to have you there since you know the way Stray Kids operate better than anyone else.”
“Okay…”
Kwangsun seems to notice his discomfort if the way he steps closer is anything to go by. Chan turns around to look at him, feeling a bit reassured by the hint of a smile on Kwangsun’s face. No matter what happens, he’s not alone. They’re going to do all of this together.
“What exactly is the plan?” Kwangsun asks after turning back to Lance Corporal Kang. Chan is pretty glad he’s taking over talking; he really doesn’t feel like doing it right now.
“Well first of all we’ll have to figure out your current skill level and which areas still need work in. Then we’ll have to make sure you meet the requirements of the DIT. After all we don’t want to put you at risk when marching out with us.”
“When are we going to start?”
“Right now.” Lance Corporal Kang beams at them. “There are some workout clothes for you on the table over there. We’ll practice every day after lunch break until 4pm. The people of my unit will be in the common room or with unit A so we have this room to ourselves for practice.”
Oh. Chan had hoped for a little more time to stomach the news. The thought of going after the rest of Stay Kids is still so foreign he doesn’t feel ready to start training for it. Contrary to him, Kwangsun doesn’t seem to have much of a problem with the situation. Without any bit of hesitation, he walks over to the table and grabs himself a set from one pile of the aforementioned clothes. They’re supposed to change here? In the practice room? In front of Lance Corporal Kang?
Chan takes a deep breath to steady himself. He may be a bit out of practice by now, but it can’t be that hard. Nobody is paying attention to him anyways, right? Then why is there still this fear bubbling up inside of him? He glances over at Kwangsun and the Lance Corporal, finding them still chatting. Good. At least there’s that. If he hurries they won’t see. Chan grabs the shirt from his pile of clothes, backs himself against the wall, quickly slips out of the shirt and into the new one. As soon as the fabric slides over his skin he starts to feel more at ease again. When he looks up, Kwangsun and Lance Corporal Kang are still talking about some workout. Neither of them seems to have noticed anything. Feeling a bit more relaxed now that the worst part is done, Chan takes the pair of grey sweatpants from the table and changes the rest of the way. He’ll really have to find a different way to do this if they’re going to continue training with Lance Corporal Kang.

“Good morning!” Jungkook frowns when a cheerful voice rips him out of his sleep. Why is hospital staff at war with sleep? Wouldn’t sleeping in be beneficial for his recovery or something? When Jungkook tries to sit up a bit, his gaze immediately lands on Jimin who’s still sleeping slumped on the chair. He actually stayed here all night? The nurse currently chattering about the beautiful weather today doesn’t seem to have noticed Jimin’s presence yet. Jungkook waits for her to look at him before lifting his finger to his lips and nodding over to the chair. The nurse freezes in her movements and breathes a silent “Oh.” as soon as she spots Jimin. Luckily, Jimin seems to still be sound asleep despite her loud voice. He must be a heavy sleeper. “Should I come back later?” the nurse mouths.
Jungkook nods, smiling when she gives him a thumbs up and leaves his room again. Still feeling incredibly tired, Jungkook lies down and tries to get comfortable again. But of course, he can’t seem to close his eyes when Jimin is right next to him. In his sleep, Jimin slid down on the chair a bit. His legs are spread far apart, his arms are crossed in front of his chest and his head is hanging low. The sunlight streaming in through the stark white curtains is playing with Jimin’s jet black hair. Jungkook is glad Jimin didn’t wake up when the nurse came in, not just because it gives him the opportunity to stare a little bit. (Yes, Jungkook is aware that’s kind of creepy.) Mainly, Jungkook is glad Jimin gets to sleep a bit more. Jimin really stayed here over night just so Jungkook wouldn’t be alone. He must have been so exhausted after the mission. Despite all the difficulties, Jimin chose being there for Jungkook over his well-deserved rest. Knowing that Jimin would do anything for their unit is one thing, experiencing it a totally different one. And having Jimin do it for him specifically has Jungkook’s heart race a little.
No matter how nice it may be to have Jimin care for him like that, Jungkook is worried about him. It’s probably ridiculous. Jimin knows his limits; he doesn’t need anyone to fuss over him. Even before Jimin became their Lance Corporal, Jungkook has always been impressed by his strength, both physical and mental. Jimin may have a handsome face and a rather slim build, especially compared to a lot of guys on the battle team, but that doesn’t mean he can’t kick ass. On top of that, Jimin knows how to lead a team. He has no trouble joking around with everyone but is well aware of when enough is enough and how to keep them on track when needed. It’s not surprising he was picked to become Lance Corporal after Jongdae left. Jimin is amazing as a person and as a leader. He gives so much when he doesn’t have to. And here Jungkook goes again, getting carried away when he allows his thoughts about Jimin to flow.
It’s crazy how tired operations – and thinking about your crush - can make you. Before Jungkook knows it, he’s dozing off again. Whether it’s for ten minutes or two hours, Jungkook doesn’t know, only that he wakes up when Jimin stirs awake on his chair. “Good morning,” Jungkook mumbles while pushing himself up into a sitting position.
Jimin rubs the sleep out of his eyes while sitting up. “Mornin’.” He rolls his shoulders before pushing his arms up to stretch, whining softly while he does so. Oh dear lord, Jimin looks so soft. So huggable. And just like that Jungkook is back to the fantasy of last night: sharing a bed with Jimin, seeing him in one of Jungkook’s shirts with dishevelled hair and a slow tired smile on his face. For fuck’s sake Jungkook has been having these kind of thoughts under control while they’re at work, why are his feelings acting up now? Is it because of everything that happened yesterday? Or is it just because they’re alone? When they do meet outside of work it’s usually with the other members of the unit. Jungkook is totally not used to getting to put his full attention on Jimin without worrying about anyone else getting suspicious.
“How are you feeling today?” Jimin mumbles. His voice is still a little rough, but Jimin seems to slowly be coming alive.
“Alright, I guess. But I haven’t tried to move yet so who knows?”
“Good, keep it up.” Jimin wags his finger at Jungkook and chuckles before getting up from his spot and starting to stretch his limbs. It takes all of Jungkook’s self-restraint, but Jungkook manages not to stare at the stretch of skin that is exposed when Jimin’s shirt rides up from the little exercises. “I still have to interview you on the whole incident.” Jimin doesn’t sound happy about having to conduct this interview in the least, but Jungkook guesses there’s no way around it. Since Jimin can’t seem to find anything to write on, he starts a recording on his phone and begins with the interview.
Even after having had more time to process everything, there isn’t much Jungkook can tell Jimin about yesterday’s events. The incident with I.N just happened too fast. Jimin asks him question after question, coaxing more details out of Jungkook than he thought would be possible. But in the end, it still doesn’t feel like much. After they reach the limits of Jungkook’s memory, Jimin thanks him and starts packing up his stuff. “I should probably get going. What time is it?” Truth be told, Jungkook is feeling a little disappointed that their time is over already. Well, it’s probably obvious that he doesn’t want Jimin to leave. It would be too good to be true if Jimin was able to stay with him.
“I have no idea,” Jungkook admits. He hasn’t even considered checking the clock until now. As he found out today, when he’s alone with Jimin time doesn’t matter. But sadly, it matters to Jimin. He checks his phone, groaning as soon as the screen lights up.
“Fuck, I should be at work already.” Jimin quickly puts on his jacket. “Sorry, I wish I could stay longer. Are you going to be okay?” No. Definitely not. Jimin needs to stay here and personally nurse Jungkook back to health.
“Yeah, don’t worry about me.”
Jimin smiles. He finally smiles again. Words can’t express how much Jungkook loves Jimin’s smile. “Great. I’ll make sure to drop by again after work. Behave until then.” Already about to leave, Jimin stops in the doorframe and turns around again. “Oh and Jungkook-ah?”
“Yes?”
“The way I know you you’re going to try and hurry to get back with us. Please don’t do that. I know it’s hard to sit around and wait, but you need time to recover. Promise me you’ll take things slow for now.”
Jungkook swallows around the lump in his throat. There it is again, Jimin’s worry. But combined with the little smile on his face, it doesn’t feel quite as heavy, makes Jungkook’s heart flutter rather than weighing him down. “I promise.”

“Happy Birthday!!!”
The cheers are followed by the sound of a party horn right before Yeji is yanked forward. Hyunjin laughs as Yeji stumbles over the threshold and right into Yuna’s hug. “Thank you,” Yeji says in between giggles. “I’m glad you’re here.”
“Sorry we’re late.” As soon as she’s inside the apartment, Yuna rushes to the couch to hug Jisu and Chaeryoung too.
“Yeah, someone took ages in the bathroom,” Ryujin explains with a pointed look at her sister while closing the door behind herself and Yeji. Ooh, there’s definitely some tension there.
“You’re one to talk. Your hair is easy to fix, Unnie!”
It obviously takes Ryujin a lot of self-control to limit her reaction to an eyeroll before finally hugging Yeji. “Happy Birthday, Jiji-ah. Be grateful you have a brother.”
Yeji just barely stops herself from bursting out laughing. “Brothers aren’t any better, trust me.”
“At least I don’t lose half a rabbit in hair every day,” Hyunjin eventually joins into the conversation. He had planned to go unnoticed for a bit longer, as he usually does. Since the couch is facing away from the kitchen his chances would have been pretty good if he had stayed quiet. But one has to defend themselves against defamation like that. Yeji scoffs at him, but Hyunjin ignores it in favour of bringing two more glasses to the couch table for Ryujin and Yuna before taking a seat on the bar stool by their little kitchen island.
“Anyways-” Jisu claps her hands together, effectively ending the almost fight- “now that everyone is here, we can finally get to the gifts!”
“Right!” Chaeryoung hurries to get the large bag she had set down in front of the hall stand and takes out two pastel-coloured boxes with ribbons wrapped around them. She smiles sweetly while coming back to the couch. “This is for you.” She hands one the boxes to Yeji before approaching Hyunjin, her smile turning a little more subtle. “And a little something for you.”
What? “For me?” Hyunjin asks while looking at the little mint green box now in his hands. It feels almost weird to accept the gift from Chaeryoung. He isn’t particular close with any of the girls, even less so after Yeji’s injury. Hyunjin can hardly endure being in a room with them for longer than a few minutes, which is why he’s been avoiding that as much as possible. Why would Yeji’s friends get a gift for him?
“Yeah. It’s your birthday too after all. I mean it’s really nothing big, but we wanted to give you a present too.” The tips of Chaeryoung’s ears turn pink as she talks.
“Thank you…” The last time Hyunjin got a gift from someone other than Yeji was ages ago. Aunt Minyoung had never really bothered with gifts; she had taken Hyunjin and Yeji out to eat on their birthday and that had been it. So getting gifts from Yeji’s friends – people who barely even know him – it feels strange. In a good way but still… weird.
Hyunjin unties the sky blue ribbon, lifts the lid of the box and is met with baby pink fluffiness. He reaches inside and pulls out the soft little thing, examining it from up close. “A hairband?” Hyunjin tries not to sound too confused, he really does, but he has no idea how Yeji’s friends got the idea of giving him a hairband.
“Yeji said your hair is getting way too long and keeps bothering you. She joked that she’d have to either buy you a hairband or cut your hair in your sleep,” Ryujin seems downright proud at having exposed Yeji’s slander of Hyunjin’s hair.
“We thought we should intervene before things get out of hand,” Yuna adds to it. Yeji and Ryujin are both giggling behind their hands. With the bit of context, Hyunjin can’t help but laugh as well. It also makes him want to hide all scissors in their apartment and start locking his door before going to bed, but that will have to wait. For now, he sets the box down on the table and starts putting the hairband on, though judging by the new increase in giggles he’s not doing a very good job. Luckily Chaeryoung is quick to come closer and fix the hairband for him.
“There you go,” she chimes, smiling when she takes a step back to observe her work. Somehow Chaeryoung can’t seem to look away. Hyunjin must be a sight with a pink hairband on his head.
“Looking good.” Thankfully, her words turn the room’s attention back to Yeji. Having everyone’s eyes on him was getting weird. Hyunjin and Chaeryoung eventually go to join the others. They push the coffee table against the wall and take a seat on the floor since it’s already a tight squeeze on the couch with Yeji, Ryujin, and Jisu there. As soon as Yeji opens her present, she starts laughing. “That’s a lot of chocolate.”
“Not just chocolate,” Yuna points out with an amused sparkling in her eyes. “There’s something else, but you need to find it first.” All of the girls look incredibly amused when Yeji laughs and starts unloading various chocolate bars, small boxes of filled chocolates and the like one by one. Basically, all her favourite chocolate snacks are featured in this present. Soon the already cramped couch is overflowing with little boxes and packages and Hyunjin starts to wonder how all of that was ever fit into the box.
“I think I found it!” Proudly, Yeji presents the small box she discovered at the bottom of the box. Her eyes grow wide when she opens it and peeks inside. “Oh my god,” she whispers while lifting a necklace out of the box and taking a closer look at it. The necklace consists of a rather plain, thin, golden chain with a flat heart shaped pendant dangling from it. “You really got that engraved?”
As the only one not involved in the gift, Hyunjin is absolutely clueless. He leans closer to Chaeryoung, whispering loud enough for only her to hear. “What does it say?”
Chaeryoung moves even closer before whispering into Hyunjin’s ear. “I believe in myself.” That’s such a sweet gift, considering the special place those words hold in Yeji’s heart. ‘I believe in myself’ has been her preferred motivational phrase since forever, but even more so after her injury.
“That’s a nice idea,” he replies as quietly as possible. Chaeryoung beams proudly and thanks Hyunjin. By now, Ryujin is helping Yeji put on the necklace while Yeji is checking her image with the front camera of Jisu’s phone.
“Thank you all so much. I love the necklace,” Yeji says with a bright smile. “And the chocolate of course.”
“You’re welcome,” the girls reply all at once before breaking into laughter at their unintentional synchronization. Hyunjin can’t help but smile at the whole scene. Yeji’s friends are such a cheerful lot and it always catches onto Yeji as well. She’s more carefree, more joyful around them. No matter how much Hyunjin avoids spending time with Yeji’s friends, he will always be grateful for everything they do for her.
“So now that the most important item on the agenda is done, how about we watch a movie?” Ryujin suggests when the laughter quiets down.
“Why do I feel like you already have something specific in mind?” Hyunjin scoots closer to the TV console filled with their CDs, DVDs and so on. It’s mostly old, but nonetheless valued, stuff: movies they already watched as kids, their first CDs and music their parents used to listen too.
“Howl’s moving castle,” Yuna suggests. Her face lights up when Yeji squeals in excitement. It’s Yeji’s favourite movie. Or rather their favourite movie, but Hyunjin doubts he really played a role in that choice. While Hyunjin turns to search for the right DVD, Ryujin switches on the TV. Whitin a second, the light atmosphere sours. Hyunjin grows tense when he looks up at the TV and realises why: the news channel that’s currently on is showing a report about yesterday’s Stray Kids attack. Hearing the words of the news lady makes Hyunjin’s blood freeze solid, even though he already checked the reports. Usually seeing the newscast after their missions isn’t this much of a problem – which is not to say it isn’t difficult – but now, with all of Yeji’s friends here, Hyunjin desperately wants to get away from here as soon as possible. How the hell is he supposed to not expose himself in front of everyone when the newsreader is talking about the injured Private?
“That reminds me.” Yuna’s voice sounds like it’s miles away. “I wanted to ask you how things are going with work. Were you at the attack yesterday?”
“No, sadly not. My unit said I need to really prepare myself first. I don’t want to rush things and end up being a burden to them. I want to make sure I’m actually ready before stepping out with everyone else,” Jisu explains.
“Then where were you during the attack?” Chaeryoung chimes in. Hyunjin can feel himself grow more and more and more nervous every time one of them speaks up. His heartbeat is hammering in his ears. He turns his head directs a pleading look at Yeji, hoping that she will be able to help somehow. But judging by her expression, she doesn’t know how to stop the conversation without being suspicious either. The DIT is an important topic for Yeji’s friends and trying to stop them whenever they talk about it or Stray Kids would soon catch the girl’s attention.
“I stayed in the rooms of the investigation team together with a lot of the other new members. Bang Chan and Park Kwangsun were there too. It was so weird to be around them.” Rather than just weirded out, Jisu sounds outright disgusted though. “I mean I know they were questioned by Lieutenant Yoon and all and officially help us now, but it just feels wrong to trust them. They’ve caused so much damage and harm and yet they were sitting there like regular members of the investigation team.”
The words cut through Hyunjin like knives. It’s so easy to forget what the average citizen thinks of Stray Kids when he’s living his regular life. This is like a hit in the face. If that’s Jisu’s opinion on Nine and Kkul – or rather Bang Chan and Park Kwangsun – what would she think of him who’s still out there going on missions? What would all of them think? Hyunjin takes a look at the girls and feels more and more stings in his heart realising that none of them would let him anywhere near Yeji anymore if they had any idea he’s a member of Stray Kids. When he meets Yeji’s gaze, she seems to know exactly what’s going on in Hyunjin’s head. There’s so much sadness in her eyes. A silent “I’m sorry.” hangs between them, which only makes Hyunjin feel worse. Yeji is the last person who should feel sorry for this situation. She’s the one suffering the most knowing that the most important people in her life are pitted against each other.
“I need to go,” Hyunjin blurts out before his brain can even think about it. “Totally forgot. My boss asked me to come in earlier today and help with stocktaking.”
A frown flickers across Yeji’s face but she’s quick to get it under control again. “Do you really have to go? Can’t someone else do it?”
“I’m afraid not. Sorry, ladies.” It’s hard to endure the pitying looks Ryujin, Yuna, Chaeryoung and Jisu give him. Poor birthday boy can’t even enjoy the party because he has to work. They have no idea. They don’t know anything. Hopefully they never will. “I wish you lots of fun, everyone. Don’t do anything stupid. And leave a piece of cake for me.”
Hyunjin quickly goes to his room and throws his door shut, feeling a bit of relief from just being out of the girls’ view. He releases a shaky breath and tries to collect himself. Hyunjin needs to get out of here as quickly as possible, he can’t bear this any longer. The looks, the talking about Stray Kids, everything. Hyunjin grabs his bag, drapes it over his shoulder, strides towards the door.
“Be careful!” Yeji calls when he’s already halfway through the door.
“Will do!” Bam. Silence. Peace. Loneliness. Now that Hyunjin’s alone in the hallway, he can barely hold back the tears any longer. He tries to stay as quiet as possible while hurrying into the elevator. Only when the doors close does he allow himself to really let go. Hyunjin quickly presses as many buttons as possible before letting himself sink to the ground. More and more sobs shake through his body as he hugs his legs to his chest. He has no idea how Yeji was able to handle this situation. All her friends developed a hatred for Stray Kids, or any sort of resistance really, after what happened to her. Hyunjin can’t even imagine how much pain he would be in if all of his friends hated his sister to death.

On his way home, Seungmin feels nothing but exhausted. Usually meeting up with I.N is fun, even though they have to be careful not to draw any attention towards them. But after yesterday’s events, I.N was still upset and their meeting became draining. Seungmin had hoped hanging out together would lift his spirits a bit, but it hadn’t done much good. Maybe it had been stupid of Seungmin to think cheering I.N up would be that easy. He shot at somebody else just yesterday. It must have been very traumatic for him. Thankfully, by now news has gotten out that the soldier in question is only mildly injured. Seungmin doesn’t want to know what it would do to I.N if he had caused serious or even lethal harm to someone. He can’t imagine what that would have been like for I.N, knowing he risked or much worse took someone’s life.
Despite the meeting with I.N having been rougher than expected, Seungmin doesn’t feel relieved when he’s standing in front of his home. As much as he loves his family, he doesn’t like being around any of them after missions. Every look, every word riles him up, makes him feel like they’re seeing right through him. It’s ridiculous and Seungmin knows it, but that doesn’t stop this horrible feeling from clawing its way into his chest. He doesn’t bother saying anything when he enters the house. Excellent ears run in the family;  everyone knows he’s home. Though rather than a voice, the noise of the TV greets Seungmin. It sounds like a newscast. Damnit. Of course, they’re watching the news. They’re always watching the news. Seungmin walks closer to the living room and peaks through the door, feeling a bit relieved when he realizes the report is about some sports team.
“Where were you?” Seungmin’s mother turns around as soon as she notices him. “You said you were going to be home for dinner.” Right, he did say that. Somehow he had completely forgotten about that while he was with I.N.
“I’m sorry. One of my friends is kind of going through a rough time and needed help.” It’s the closest to the truth Seungmin can be. He hates lying, especially to his family, but saying he helped a friend isn’t actually a lie. In a way he and I.N are friends after all. Though a regular person probably wouldn’t consider someone whose name they don’t know their friend. That doesn’t change anything for Seungmin though. The members mean a lot to him, real names or not.
“During the attack, a member of the DIT was injured. According to the officials, the injury is only minor.”
The words make Seungmin freeze up. He hadn’t noticed when the news had moved on to the recent Stray Kids attack. “Uhm,” he stammers, trying to regain his composure. Damnit, he had managed to avoid seeing news about their missions in the presence of his family for so long. Why did exactly this mission have to break the streak? “Leftovers are in the fridge?” Finally, an idea.
“Yes,” Minseo confirms. “We made sure to leave enough for you.” Her smile is so sweet it hurts Seungmin that it doesn’t feel genuine to him right now. It just stresses him out even more. Thinking that his sister knows what’s going on, where he was or with whom is ridiculous. Minseo has no way of knowing he’s part of Stray Kids and if she did she wouldn’t be sitting here so calmly. But Seungmin can’t help it. When it gets to hiding his identity, he sees the worst everywhere.
“Thanks.” Seungmin turns on his heel and heads into the kitchen. He quickly grabs himself some food for himself and runs upstairs. When he reaches his room, he puts everything down on his desk and lets himself plop down on his chair. Seungmin closes his eyes and gathers himself. He’s alone. He’s safe. Nobody knows he’s DaN. Everything is fine. There’s nothing to worry about.
If only it was really that easy.

“Damn, I thought I was early,” Yeonjun notes while dropping his bag in front of the lockers. He isn’t entirely wrong. Despite going grocery shopping for lack of a better alternative, Hyunjin ended up coming in a lot earlier than needed. The emptiness of the bar was just too appealing to pass up on. This must be the first time he’s been here before Yeonjun; of course that wouldn’t go unnoticed.
“Ah yeah, my plans for the evening got cancelled so I thought I’d come in a little earlier, clean the counter and all.” Hyunjin is aware of how ridiculous his explanation sounds. Who the hell goes to work when they have free time? As expected, Yeonjun doesn’t seem convinced. Not one bit.
“Sure, because what else would you do when you have some time to spare?” Despite his words, Yeonjun doesn’t push it, instead starting to change into his uniform. Hyunjin turns his head away to give Yeonjun some privacy. Well, as much privacy as one can have while changing in a cramped room with another person in it. “Did you already refill the straws and napkins?”
“Yup.” Hyunjin nods even though Yeonjun probably isn’t looking at him. “Everything done.”
“Great, thanks.” Yeonjun walks over to the mirror, fixes a few strands of his auburn dyed hair before turning towards Hyunjin. “Since we have some time left before costumers come and we have no other job to kill time with, are you going to tell me what you’re running away from?” That much on not pushing it. Of course Yeonjun wouldn’t just let it slide.
“I had a fight with my sister,” Hyunjin lies, despite feeling horrible about telling more lies. The fact that he has gotten so used to this makes it even worse. He just comes up with stuff like this on the spot and is able to keep a straight face like it’s nothing. Admittedly, he isn’t always convincing. That’s only a matter of time though. Hyunjin knows he should be grateful for that ability, but he hates it. “I forgot to do the laundry and things kind of… escalated.” At this point, getting to be honest about things that aren’t related to Stray Kids in any way has become a relief. Something as simple as being allowed to mention Yeji already makes things feel a little easier. More normal. It’s so trivial, but Hyunjin enjoys still getting to speak some truth about himself.
Yeonjun nods despite the fact that he doesn’t really seem to buy it yet again. “And you’re hoping that will solve itself if you go to work?”
“Not exactly, but I needed to get out of our apartment,” Hyunjin explains. At the very least, that part is true. He couldn’t have stayed with the girls a single second longer. “Also, by the time I come home she’s going to be asleep. So we’ll have lots of time to calm down and talk about everything again tomorrow.”
Yeonjun shakes his head at Hyunjin’s reasoning. “If you ask me, you should do that laundry before your sister gets up.”
“Yeah, I’ll try.”
Yeonjun changes the rest of the way in silence. When he’s done, they walk over into the main room. It’s still too early for costumers and since Hyunjin already prepared everything there’s not really anything to do. Thankfully the topic of his alleged fight with Yeji stayed in the locker room. Hyunjin really would not have wanted to try and justify this stupid laundry story any longer. Their chatter now is kind of boring, but Hyunjin definitely prefers that over lies and excuses. For lack of a better way to pass their time, he and Yeonjun start examining the bottles on their work surface, checking which of them are close to empty and will have to be replaced soon. The downside of being busy with the bottles is that their conversation dies down, which leaves Hyunjin way too alone with the negative thoughts and memories of the party.
“Hyunjin-oppa! Finally!” Chaeryoung’s voice has never sounded this troubled, at least Hyunjin has never heard her like this. Of course three missed calls and urgent sounding messages weren’t going to be a good sign, but the panic in her voice seems more extreme than Hyunjin expected.
“What’s going on? What happened?” Every rapid heartbeat made Hyunjin even more nervous. Chaeryoung wouldn’t call him like this if it wasn’t serious. She never calls him. She barely even messages him. And since she apparently insisted on calling him specifically, there was only one possible reason. “Is something wrong with Yeji?”
“Yes she-” Chaeryoung gulped as though it was hard for her to speak. Hyunjin couldn’t take the wait, the moment felt like an eternity. “We’re in the hospital. The Red Cross Hospital. Please come here as soon as you can.” Hospital. Yeji was in hospital. Fuck. Hyunjin couldn’t stop the memories from crashing down on him: following the nurse through the hallways, knocking at the big dark door, walking into the sterile room. The images felt like dozens of bricks pressing down on Hyunjin’s chest. He could barely breathe.
“I’m on my way.” His voice sounded choked up, but Hyunjin couldn’t care less. He needed to see Yeji, see if she was fine. Even if it meant going to a hospital. What could have possibly happened? Part of Hyunjin wished that he had asked more questions, but Chaeryoung hadn’t sounded like she was in the right condition for lengthy explanations. Maybe there wasn’t time either. Fuck, Hyunjin needed to hurry.
The ride was hell to say the least. Hyunjin couldn’t stop himself from being nervous and fidgety. It didn’t help one bit that he had just come home from a mission that was now flickering across the screens in the subway. A weird feeling started spreading through Hyunjin when the news lady started talking about civilians getting hurt. That simply wasn’t possible. There were hardly any people around when they attacked, and the DIT was supposed to keep civilians away, so how would any of them get close enough to get injured? It was probably a lie, propaganda against them. That had to be it.
Getting out of the subway and that damned news report made Hyunjin feel a bit better, but only momentarily. Every step towards his destination made his heart race even faster and chest feel even tighter. Hyunjin hated hospitals. A hospital was the last place he wanted to be at, but there was no way around it. He would have to get his act together. For Yeji.
Hyunjin let himself be led into the waiting room by one of the nurses at the front desk, freezing when he saw Yeji’s friends. The girls looked like they had rolled around on the ground of a construction side. Their hair and clothing were covered in dust. Taking a closer look, Hyunjin noticed their reddened eyes, as though they had been crying. He also spotted several band aids on them and other, smaller cuts that weren’t covered. Ryujin had a bandage around her head. Hyunjin guessed all the adults around the girls were their respective parents. He scanned every face in the room, but Yeji wasn’t here. Oh god.
“Oppa!” Chaeryoung got up and jogged towards him. She talked louder than usual; normally her voice was rather quiet. Hyunjin only now realised it wasn’t just panicked, it was almost like she had headphones on and was trying to talk over music.
“What happened?” Sobbing caught Hyunjin’s attention, making him look up to find Yuna crying into her mother’s shoulder. “Where’s Yeji?”
“Stray Kids, they- they attacked the department of education.” No. No that couldn’t be the reason. They were careful. They were always careful. Yeji and her friends weren’t even inside the building; there’s no way they were hit by the explosion. It just couldn’t be. But the evidence was all around Hyunjin. “We were on our way to run some errands when everything blew up behind us-”
“What about Yeji? Is she okay?” Hyunjin could hear the panic in his own voice by now. He just had to know Yeji was okay already.
“I have no idea,” Chaeryoung admitted. Tears started to flood her eyes once again. She couldn’t seem to look up at Hyunjin any longer. “They’re still operating on her.”
“Costumers.”
“What?” Hyunjin’s head snapped up. Gone are the white walls and blindingly bright lights. The room is dark grey, the light subdued. This isn’t a hospital. Thank god. It takes a while until Hyunjin is able to focus on Yeonjun in front of him. “What did you say?”
Yeonjun doesn’t get to answer since he’s already taking some guy’s order. Still feeling a bit fuzzy, Hyunjin checks his watch. 8.03. They’re actually open by now. He must have zoned out for quite a while. As soon as the costumer is sent off with his drinks, Yeonjun turns towards Hyunjin again. “Had a nice time in dreamland?”
“Not really,” Hyunjin admits. The memory is still heavy like chains around his heart. He really tries his best not to remember that day, but sometimes it all just comes crashing onto him. Tonight is going to be anything but pleasant, Hyunjin already knows that. He never sleeps well on days like this, no matter how tired he is after his shift.
Yeonjun steps closer, speaking in a low voice. “Is this still about your sister?”
“Yeah.” Hyunjin takes a look around, making sure the two only costumers they have are far enough away. “I feel so bad for what happened. I should have just done the laundry and not started a fight about it.” Yes, very convincing. He got overwhelmed by the traumatic experience of fighting over household chores.
“Agreed.” Yeonjun smiles and pats Hyunjin’s back. “Hey, I’m sure if you apologise and do the laundry everything will be fine.”
“I guess you’re right…”
“Of course I am,” Yeonjun sounds almost offended Hyunjin would ever assume anything else. “That’s why you listen to your elders.”
Hyunjin rolls his eyes. “You say it as though you’re some 106 year old wise guy of the town. You’re one year older than me.”
“One year can make a lot of difference.” Yeonjun wags his finger in Hyunjin’s face. “Talk to me again in one year and see how much has changed.” Hyunjin tries to think of a comeback, but before his brain can provide him with anything another group of costumers walks in. Yeonjun winks at Hyunjin before going back to the counter and accepting the first order. Sighing, Hyunjin straightens his back, puts his costumer service smile on and starts helping Yeonjun prepare the drinks.

They’re really getting training now. Somehow just the thought lets a smile bloom on Kwangsun’s face. After all, none of the higher-ups would have agreed on sending them off to missions if they didn’t trust him and Chan, right? Okay, maybe trust is too strong of a word for that, but it’s definitely a good sign. In their situation every little step forward should be celebrated. Especially steps like this.
Kwangsun has a slight skip in his step as he walks into the kitchen, starting to look for stuff he can use to cook dinner for them. Though since they haven’t been grocery shopping in a while, there’s not really a lot to work with. They only have rice and noodles to be precise. Yup, plain rice would make a great celebration meal. Maybe Kwangsun should go grocery shopping? It’s not that late yet, he could go buy more ingredients to cook some proper meal for them. Kimchi jjigae would be awesome. If he’s already out and about, he should buy more than just the ingredients though. Some snacks wouldn’t hurt either. And they’re short on tissues and apple juice. Is there anything else? Kwangsun feels like he’s forgetting something. Don’t they need more shampoo too? Or is it soap? The answer feels within his reach but Kwangsun can’t quite grasp it.
“Chan-ah?” he calls, already leaving the kitchen. There’s no way both of them forgot, right? Plus, Chan might have wishes of his own, which Kwangsun would be happy to fulfil if Chan just replied. Still starved for a reply, Kwangsun walks down the hallway and opens the door to Chan’s room. “I’m going gro-”
Kwangsun freezes in the door frame, completely still. He forgot to knock, which was a mistake. Chan specifically requested it when they moved in. How did he not remember something that simple? Just having come out of the shower, Chan is still shirtless. That by itself really wouldn’t be a big deal if it wasn’t for the long, faint pink lines raking over Chan’s back. Most of them crisscross over his spine at the height of his ribcage, but some extend to his shoulders as well as lower back.
Chan’s entire back is covered in scars.
It only now dawns upon Kwangsun that he’s never seen Chan without a shirt, not even when in the practice room today. How did Chan even manage to change that quickly? And how come Kwangsun hadn’t realized how much Chan must have hurried to hide this? Or questioned how urgently Chan had insisted that Kwangsun knocks whenever he enters his room?
“What the fucking hell are you doing here?!” The aggression in Chan’s voice is so foreign. He’s never sounded like this, not during missions or while discussing plans or anything. Kwangsun’s heart drops to his knees. Chan is scary right now. His jaw is set and his face pulled into a scowl. His gaze has an intensity that has Kwangsun’s throat go dry. This is bad, this is really bad. Chan stumbles backwards and presses himself against his closet while trying to cover himself with the shirt in his hands. The mixture of anger and horror on Chan’s face makes Kwangsun feel like a monster, as though he murdered Chan’s family right in front of his very eyes.
“I’m sorry, I-” Kwangsun can’t seem to form proper words. He honestly has no idea what he would even say except apologising for barging into Chan’s room like that. Though he feels like an apology won’t cut it.
“Get out!” Chan screams, losing his patience. Kwangsun has never heard Chan yell before. “Get the hell out! Leave me alone!” He comes closer as though he’s planning to personally drag Kwangsun out of the room. Kwangsun nods hastily and rushes outside as quickly as possible. His heart is racing like crazy when the door slams shut behind him. The abstract painting on the wall next to Kwangsun trembles with the force of it.
“And fucking knock next time!”

"soooo," jisung sat beside felix on the grass ground, the latter too busy scribbling notes on his parchment to even give his companion a reply.
"ahem."
still, felix kept scribbling, his eyebrows furrowed and his hands aching a little bit but despite the pain he still kept on writing.
jisung rolled his eyes before snatching the parchment out of felix's hand, the latter yelping from the sudden intrusion.
"can I have my notes back?"
"not until you tell me why you and a certain slytherin are sneaking behind everyone's back to, y'know, do the deed," jisung wiggled his eyebrows for emphasis.
"I'm not sneaking behind your backs with a slytherin and I'm certainly not doing anything! now can I have my notes back?"
the hufflepuff crossed his arms with a small huff.
"oh come on! you're literally obvious enough for someone as stupid like me to notice! plus, you've been studying your potions notes for so long, you need a break."
"my grades are already disappointing, jisung, I don't want snape to tell me how hopeless I am again," felix, still frustrated, decided to just watch the water move in the black lake. he didn't want to look at jisung either because he knew the moment he looks at him, jisung will know that whatever his assumption about felix and a certain slytherin is true and that doesn't sound too good.
"lix, just be honest with me, ok? look I don't care if you're dating a slytherin and I won't meddle with it but at least tell me if it's true? as your best friend?"
"you're taking advantage of my soft heart, stop it."
"if you really love me? please?"
felix groaned, he should've expected this from jisung. but it won't hurt to tell him the truth, right? jisung may have a loud mouth but he knows when to not talk about something so private. it's not like felix has a choice anyway, either jisung starts to sulk at how he's not felix' best friend anymore or he keeps pestering him to talk.
"fine."
jisung squeals, jumping from his seat to get closer to felix, "so, who is it?"
felix heaved a shaky breath, his eyes casted downwards with his fingers fiddling with each other.
"y/n black."
"merlin's beard!" jisung gasp, his eyes dramatically wide and his hands covering his mouth for effect, "as in, sirius black's daughter!?"
"y-yes."
"you are one hell of a lucky guy, my friend! I mean, damn, y/n's a snack!"
"shut up!"
although jisung's reaction wasn't the best he can get, he was still glad that he was alright with it. god knows what he'll do if his best friend doesn't approve of you. speaking of you, he's also glad that you didn't mind that jisung knows about them.
"are you sure it's ok?"
"yes, lix, now come here and give me them hugs," you opened your arms wide for felix, the said man falling on top of your chest, "he's you're best friend, anyway, he's ought to find out sooner or later."
"I'm kind of glad that I don't have to make excuses or lies to him anymore," felix nuzzles his head on your neck, smiling at the chuckle that he got out of you.
suddenly, you felt felix tensed against you, his fingers started tugging on your sleeves and he keeps moving uncomfortably, shifting from positions to another one.
"lix, what's bothering you?"
he shivered at your low voice, decided to confide in you because he knows you'll do anything to tell you what's bothering him. you knew him too well to not see pass his lies. he pushes himself up on his elbow, so he can see your face while he talks.
"y/n... I know we decided to keep this relationship a secret to keep me from the other slytherin's prying eyes but... "
"but?" you coo at him to continue, hands running through his hair.
"I... I want everyone to know about us... I just- I just don't want to keep sneaking around and I really want to be able to hold you even if there's a lot of people around... please?"
"a-are you sure? I mean, I want the same thing too but the other slytherins will surely give you a hard time and I really don't want you to get hurt."
felix feels his chest compress from your soft tone, his heart thumping from the love and concern you're giving him.
"I know, but what's a relationship without a little hardship, yeah? I'm sure about this, y/n, and I won't let those annoying snakes to get in the way, I promise."
and so the two of you decided on small things. it started with holding hands while entering the great hall, and while it did made the other houses smile at the weird pair and the shared affection (jisung couldn't stop squealing in delight), you did got some dirty looks from the slytherins. but that did not waver you from your plans.
"damn it, black, I knew you're charming and all but you got yourself the most cutest and purest guy! and when did this even happen!?" minho pouted, stabbing his chicken with the silver fork in his hands.
"so that's where you've been running off to," chan snickers at your flushed face.
"shut up, I've got more to do."
"what do you mean- y/n get your feet off the table, there's food!"
mimho's shouting definitely caught the attention of everyone in the great hall, even the professors are looking. felix looks at you, confused.
"mr/ms. black! please get down from the table now before I take points from your house!" professor mcgonagall shouts at you from the front.
"sorry, professor, but I'm in love at the moment and I have to get this out before anyone tries to steal my little flower."
felix flushed when he realized your intentions. jisung gasped, slapping his shoulder repeatedly in delight while the other houses grinned at your silliness. you cleared your throat, pointing your the tip of your wand at your throat to let your voice be heard by the whole room.
"so, as you all can see, I'm about to declare my undying love for a certain hufflepuff. I'm dating the most cutest, smartest, and definitely the most handsome guy in this school and that's lee felix. so if I ever hear anything about you asses trying to steal my flower away I'm gonna have to hex you each and every one of you until y'all learn to get away from what's mine," you send felix a very obvious wink, the said man flushing deeply and covering his face with the both of his hands from embarrassment.
"and yes, that cute and fine ass is mine too."
"y/n!"
the whole great hall was rendered laughing, either from how embarrassing you are or they find it cute that you're confidently declaring your love for felix.
"30 points from slytherin and detention later, mr/ms. black."
"oh c'mon prof! I'm in love!"

[6:45pm] - You’ve been dating Chan for the past seven months, and though the long-distance wasn’t easy, being with Chan was more than worth it. Whenever he got a day off, you cleared your schedule so that the two of you could spend some much needed time together. Today, just so happened to be one of those days, and you couldn’t wait! Not only were you excited to see Chan, but you also found yourself missing the other members quite often. Sure they could be overly rambunctious at times and downright infuriating when they found it comical to interrupt your and Chan’s alone time, but you loved them all the same. You had formed individual bonds with each of the members and doted on them as if they were your little brothers, to which they had no complaints. You spoiled them, and they loved you for it.
With the release of Double Knot and all of the active promotions that followed, you knew that the boys were mostly running on empty by this point, so if the day consisted of merely just lounging around, you were cool with it. One thing that you could always count on though was that the boys, no matter how tired, would still be down for some grub. Especially In-N-Out, which they drug you to repeatedly whenever they were in Los Angeles. After braving the seemingly never-ending line at the fast-food establishment, you were finally on your way. With the hotel in view, you followed the instructions Chan had given you to locate the designated car park where a member of their staff would be awaiting your arrival. Your relationship was not public knowledge, and though he wanted to be the one to meet you, you both knew just how risky such a small gesture could be if someone were to get a picture. After parking and gathering your belongings, you followed the staff member through the hotel until you were stood in front of room 312. The commotion coming from behind the door indicated that you were indeed in the right place. You adjusted the take-way bags as best you could so that you could free up a hand to knock, but instead of colliding with wood, your fist landed on the chest of none other than, Chan. You peered up at the boy who was flashing you one of his million-dollar smiles that never failed to make you weak. Being that your hands were fully occupied, the boy took full advantage and wrapped his arms around your frame in an instant, pulling you as close as humanly possible. You couldn’t suppress the squeals that erupted from you once he started peppering kisses all over every inch of you that he could reach.
“I get the feeling that you missed me, babe.” you snickered while placing a peck on his exposed neck before he pulled back enough to peer down at you. His grip on your waist tightened slightly as to emphasize just how much he had missed you.
“You have no idea how much! I’m seriously not going to let you leave this time.” he cooed as yet another kiss was placed upon your eagerly awaiting lips.
“Y/N is here! And she brought food!” you heard Felix shout as he ran up to the two of you with a smile, thus marking your and Chan’s private moment officially over. The two of you had gotten used to the interruptions from the others, and would often joke that it was like the two of you had eight children, but you wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Way to cock block, mate.” Chan snickered playfully in Felix’s direction as the two of you exchanged greetings.
“Aye, I’ve missed Y/N too. And she brought food. You know I can’t resist food.” The younger boy replied cheekily while reaching out for the bags, to which you eagerly handed over. Having been so caught up in the moment with Chan, you hadn’t realized just how heavy the bags actually were until that moment. Feeding the boys was no small feat by any means, and you had been sure to get everyone their favorites from the menu, plus extras. As if on cue, you could hear the other boys making their way into the front room to greet you. A slew of hellos was shouted in your direction, and you braced for impact as seven figures all raced up to wrap you into a group hug.
“Hey, easy. Don’t go breaking my girlfriend!” Chan teased as he stood back, watching the scene unfold. He was used to the boys all clamoring over you whenever you came to visit, and though it often meant less alone time for you two, he was over the moon at just how well you and his members got on.

[10.40pm] Felixs’ nervousness rose with every second passing by. He felt his throat becoming sore and scratched his neck. She should be home soon. He thought and fumbled on his shirt, staring at the clock in front of him. The sun was already slowly getting down as he finally heard how she opened the door to the shared apartment. “I’m home!” he heard her yell and gulped.
“I’m in the living room - wait a sec!” he shouted and threw one last look on his preparations. He took a deep breath and ran towards his girlfriend. Felix hugged her tightly, his heart racing in his chest. Before she could say anything he pressed her hands. “Close your eyes, okay?”
The girl looked at him suspiciously. She raised her brows for a moment but closed her eyes eventually when she saw how serious Felix was. His heartbeat increased with every step they took - his fingers tightly entangled with hers. He felt like he was burning inside.
“Open them.” He whispered in her ear and took a step away to let her fully see the room. Felix spent his whole day preparing everything- he lit every candle he found, bought hundreds of beautiful pink roses and peonies, which were her favorite flowers. The room was filled with their heavenly soft scent.
His girlfriend looked down and realized that she was standing in the middle of a heart he had formed out of rose petals and started tearing up. Felix took another deep breath and cleared his throat, before moving right in front of her. He grabbed both of her hands and placed a soft kiss on them.
“You are the most beautiful girl I know. You’re smart, funny and you’re always there for me. I love the way you’re saying my name. How you laugh at every stupid joke I tell and how you listen to any of my problems.. I love the way your eyes sparkle when you laugh amd I love the way you’re so softly touching me. I love your laugh. And I love how easily I can make you blush.” he stopped for a moment and looked at her face, a tear running down her cheek. He reached out and slowly wiped it away before cupping her face with his hand.
“I love everything about you. I’m so deeply in love with you. I cant imagine a life without you by my side anymore and I don’t want to. In fact, I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Felix took another breath and got down on one leg, looking directly into her eyes.
“Will you marry me?”

Whatever Comes Next // Han Jisung
Tumblr media
a/n: some changes are coming into play soon i hope you are excited!!!
[22:01] You were on the phone with your boyfriend Han, you have been since about 20:00 talking about nothing really. This was a nightly routine where you would call and sit in silence once you ran out of things to say but this night was different... you didn’t know why but it was more relaxed and peaceful. Neither of you had exactly spoken yet but no one needed too. “You know we age without realizing and one day we are 65 with grey hair” You state as he laughs “well that’s random,” he says back. “I know but I had this thought when I was in class looking at our substitute. Like a while ago he was young like us but you just start aging and you can’t reverse aging... no matter how many creams they put out, hair dyes, anti-wrinkle serums... we still get old... and than die” you say sadly as you finish you hear him breathing softly “I never thought about that but now that I am, I know I will love you endlessly no matter how old you get, how many grey hairs you have, and no matter how many fucking creams you try. You Y/N will always be the same Y/N that I fell in love with”.

Author’s note♠️:this piece is so old but i decided to post it because i adore the concept of changbin being a demon
Genre:demon au,uhhh slight romance?
Pair:Demon!Changbin x Human!Reader
Warnings:mentions of death,no title whatsoever
Word count:1.5k
You don’t even know how you ended up at the improvised crossroad in the middle of all the tiny swings and slides of your old kindergarten that got closed shortly-after elementary school started for you-because of a termite attack.At this hour the abandoned facility which looked more like a wreck than anything else, seemed even creepier than in broad daylight when passing it on your way to high school.
The playground was the same as you remembered it-just a lot more rusty. The old monkey bar you fell from occasionally, leaving you with bruises all over your little body, had lost its color. Most of the swings were broken and the little wodden tables,littered with cigars,beer cans,and trash-the former kindergarten being a famous hangout spot for vandals and teenage drinking games.
You had peaked over the small colorful fence going around the backyard  to see if there was someone that could interrupt the business you were here to do,before hoping on the other side with great effort not to impale yourself on the sharp ends.
You hoped that the cigarette box you were carrying in the small backpack where all the needed stuff were stored, was proper enough for the summoning.After all you didn’t want to offend the creature before you even had the chance to make the proposal. You kneeled on the ground, old tiles scattered around the lot. Some of them had to be moved so you would have as much of an open space as possible,the action of shifting them to another place, making dirt stick uncomfortably under your nails.With stolid movements you pull out the red Marlboro box and start digging a little hole in the ground, the size of the cigarette pack.Once you put it in the little cavity and bury it, you stand up.
For the first time since your little adventure had begun, you could feel the anxiety in the pit of your stomach, starting to bubble up.This was your last hope.If this didn’t work...
But your train of thought was cut off shortly by a clearing of a throat.You turn around abruptly towards the sound, your heart beating fast against your ribcage.It was a boy.You tense a bit, squinting your eyes trying to get a grip on what he looked like, the absence of any lighting, making you wonder if you were in danger.Quickly taking out your phone, you turn on the flashlight, pointing it towards the still figure-the lack of movement making him look like a statute.With a strong but unsure voice you break the heavy silence.
‘Can I help you with something?’
A little snort escapes his mouth a little shake of the head following. The smile that spills on his face, looks more than uncanny on the low light coming from your phone. He takes a couple of steps forward towards you with a lazy strut,his hands in the pockets of his ripped jeans,the sudden awakening from the statue-like pose,making your body stiffen.
‘Shouldn’t I be the one asking this question, sweetheart?’the dark-haired boy exclaims, his red eyes boring into yours.
oh.
The only thing you could do is gape, a slight shaped ‘O’, permanently appearing on your face.You couldn’t believe, that a ritual you got your hands on from the internet, easy to find as if it was a recipe for mashed potatoes,actually worked.
The absence of an answer on your side,too focused on the situation unfolding in front of you,is unappealing to the hell creature standing a couple of meters away from you.A loud childish-sounding whine that every kid has mastered to a perfection when they don’t get what they want, slips past his lips, the moan not matching the dangerous look his,dark brown eyes held.
‘I usually become really grumpy when I get called for no specific reason, so you better start talking, because it would be a real shame to send my hellhounds after you to tear your cute face.’
His words seem to draw a response from you, the haziness that your eyes held disappearing, a curious look replacing it.
‘What’s your name? ’you ask, completely ignoring the threat of the nameless boy.
‘Wrong question.’ he says playfully, the dangerous childishness still apparent in his voice. In a second all of that is gone, replaced by a stern face, showing the emotion behind the playful answers from his side. When he speaks again, the coldness of his dark voice makes you slightly shiver. ’Try again.Careful this time. Remember, curiosity killed the cat ‘
’Uh,okay I,' you scratch your neck awkwardly,taking a look around the playground,as if searching the answer he wants to hear.
,I want to make a-uh,a-'you start,uncertainty prominent in your voice,but don’t get the chance to finish,the little laugh that the boy lets out of his lips,interrupting your splutter.
‘Obviosly.What else would you summon me for if it’s not a deal we are talking about?’ You scrunch your nose,a habit you have,and look down at your shoes,the brown nail polish at the tips of them almost scraped off and the yellow material dirty from the soil that you were kneeling in,a couple of minutes ago.
Is he reading my mind?
By the time you are able to collect your thoughts an formulate your sentence,he had taken a few big steps forward,now standing a few inches in front of you,his finger finding a place under your chin,making you lift your head and look straight at the boy’s face.
’So what is it, (Y/N)?Unrequited love,an outcast ,daddy is-‘
It’s your turn to cut him off, the demon’s sentence triggering something in you. You don’t have the time to think about how he knows your name nor do you care about his knowledge on that topic,the cocky demeanor of the creature standing in front of you starting to irk you.
‘It’s my sister’s death’ you answer curtly,not breaking eye contact. ‘-I want her back.’
Even if he notices the change of your attitude, he doesn’t comment on it.
’Interesting’the fiend retorts back, unsympathetically. ’How noble of you.To sacrifice yourself because of your sister’ he yawns and lets go of your chin harshly.He turns around, walking to his previous place, stopping with his back facing you. After a couple of seconds he turns back, the sophisticated look on his face disappearing, the annoying smirk that was glued on his rosy lips since the start of your conversation, returning.
‘I’ll give you 3 years,’ he announces.’-Then your soul is mine.’
You are ready to protest, that three years are not enough, but upon seeing the raise of his eyebrows and those lazy brown eyes, eyelids low-looking at you almost patronizingly, as if he really is reading your thoughts and is challenging you to oppose his decision, you stop yourself.
You think for a bit.3 years are more than nothing.That’s three birthdays and 1095 days in total. You don’t know how you are going to announce this to your 6-year-old sister. That you’ll be gone for a long period of time with no chance of returning. But that’s a problem for another day. Your main goal now is to get her back and see her grow even if it’s for a short amount of time.
‘Fine’ you answers tolerantly, extending your arm for the fiend to shake. For the second time tonight, the demon lets out a laugh, his eyes turning into little crescents.
‘That’s not how it works,babe'
You seem perplexed for a moment, before he moves closer to you, wrapping his arm around your waist, his chest brushing against yours. Your eyes become wide and the red that is painting your futures, travels to the tip of your ears, not being able to control your body language at such proximity to a boy, well, demon.You put a hand between your rib cages trying to distance yourself from him as much as possible, his strong grip around your waist not giving you much of a choice.He looks pleased with the reaction he drew out of you his smile getting bigger,if that’s even possible. You feel a strong urge to slap him across his handsome face.
‘There is no way you don’t know that the deal is sealed with a kiss,now is it?’
You answer almost instantly, putting your best toothy smile on and tilting your head slightly to the left like a puppy.
‘I thought I could in some way get around it’ you voice out, batting your eyelashes teasingly.
He chuckles and takes your hand that is positioned between your chests,putting it around his neck.’Cheeky girl,aren’t you?’he mumbles,his face getting closer and closer to yours.His lips barely ghosting over yours,a sly smile forming on the demon’s lips once again,making you drop the act, your breath getting stuck in your throat.He whispers one last thing before sealing the deal.
‘You are all mine now,love’

not an angel | guardian devil! felix
felix has been bias wrecking me for quite a few days now,,,,,,, so,,,,
Tumblr media
• every one of ur friends were getting all their guardian angels and there u were, sitting all alone in the cafeteria cause dAMN patricia sweetie u really ain't giving this person a guardian someday hhhh
• obviously u were jealous whenever u saw ur friends being best friends with their angels and u had,,,, no one
• (u were just too scared to call someone a best friend because of all ur failed friendships and trust issues :((( )
• so u were sitting on the bleachers one day, waiting for ur football practice to start
• when suDDENLY
• "yo is that banana milk"
• u were : rEADY TO FIGHT WHOEVER SCARED THAT SHIT OUT OF U THAT ALMOST CAUSED U TO SPILL BANANA MILK ALL OVER U
• so u turn to ur left to see this guy??? sitting beside u???? S M I L I N G AT U
• "who are u,,,,,"
• he quickly snapped out of his thoughts
• "oH- HI IM FELIX UR GUARDIAN-"
• LE DRAMATIC GASP
• "-ANGEL?????"
• "DEVIL."
• u freeze in ur spot cuz hunty excuse me the fuck
• u have a WHAT
• (no i didn't pull a harry potter ok)
• "but aren't we supposed to have guardian angels or something????? the fuck is a devil doing here huh"
• "cause u be going to hell bih"
• "excuse et moi the fuck do u mean ((╬●∀●)"
• "IM KIDDING OK THEY SAID THAT THEY'RE RUNNING OUT OF ANGELS SO THEY SENT A DEVIL TO U INSTEAD DONT LOOK AT ME LIKE THAT"
• honestly u could've assumed that he's a devil anyways if u first had only heard his voice cause it's so deep bUT !!!! HIS HEART !!!!!
• HESLITERALLYSOSOFTOMG (⺣´◡`⺣)
• LIKE HE COMES TO UR HOUSE EVERY MORNING TO WATER UR FLOWERS
• HE TAKES U MCDONALD'S E V E R Y WEEKEND JSZBNSBSHS
• HE EVEN FIXES UR HAIR WHENEVER UR TIRED AND WORN OUT :((((
• "how tf are u a devil like ur voice is,,,,, it suits ur occupation but ur personality is exactly like an angel felix are u sure ur a devil"
• "y/N U DON'T HAVE TO TELL ME THAT EVERY SINGLE DAY PLS"
• oh and he also knew ur name before he even met u (hE WAS ASSIGNED TO U SO OBV)
• but tHERE U WERE THINKING THAT HE WAS A STALKER I-
• yall literally bicker aLL THE DAMN TIME
• "NO Y/N WE'RE PLAYING MINECRAFT AND THAT'S I T"
• "IF I SAY SMASH THEN WE SHALL PLAY THAT"
• "BUT D: MINECRAFT D:"
• "STOP WITH THAT FACE LEE FELIX ISTG"
• and sometimes,,,, whenever u felt,,,, lonely u would just snuggle up to him and honestly it doesn't even surprise him
• because his hugs are so warm
• and even tho u shouldn't,,, ur making his heart warm :(((
• it was one day when felix had gone to the grocery store to buy u some snacks when he got stuck because it was all raining and shit
• so he called u to let u know that he might be late
• and normally u would pick up the call after 5 rings max
• but today u just ??? didn't ????
• and it scared him
• like it scared him so much about u that this boy rAN in the rain
• ALL THE WAY TO UR HOUSE
• TO MAKE SURE UR OKAY
• "y/n!!!"
" he opened the door to ur bedroom at once at once and his heart just dropped when he saw u
• because he had forgot one most important thing about ur fears
• with rain, thunders came along too
• and he forgot how much it scared u to the point that u would wrap urself up in a thick blanket and snuggle up to him, holding him tightly
• but today??? u were there sitting in the corner, dried tears on ur face and knees up to ur chest
• and u weren't just shivering of the cold, u were shaking because of the fear and cold
• he quickly dropped everything and hugged u so tightly like he would never let u go
• which is true
• he will never let u go no matter what
• so he pulls away from the hug and softly caresses ur face
• "don't cry now, okay? i'm here. look. ur best friend is here."
• ur voice breaks when u say ur next words
• "b-best friends?"
• he lightly nods and hugs u again as he pats ur back and says,
• "obviously. ur my first and remember, my only best friend."
• u hated trusting people
• especially ur guardian angel
• because u knew that once u are happy, their job is done, which means they have to return to where they came from, leaving u all alone
• but it didn't matter if felix was a guardian angel or devil or even the one who made the universe at this point
• because even tho u didn't trust anyone, hated to trust anyone, in fact
• u wanted to trust felix
• like this felix has saved u countless number of times
• there are times when yall are just hanging out together and be like
• "so felix when are u leaving me"
• "bitch i'm a devil i'm supposed to stick with my human for a lifetime"
• ":0000 no w a y :0000"
• and everyday yall would just ;;;;;;; fall in love with each other ;;;;;;; so mUCH
• like ever since felix realised he liked u his cheeks aLWAYS BLUSHED WHEN HE WAS AROUND WHICH IS LIKE 25/8
• AND HE KIND OF MADE IT OBVIOUS THAT HE LIKED U BECAUSE HE WOULD A L W A Y S SMILE SO FUCKING BRIGHT AROUND U
• so remember how i said that he would take u to McDonald's and stuff???? yeah it was one night when he was driving the car and the food was in the backseat
• like i said he was the one to drive that day so he had the keys with him
• and while he was playing with the keys and talking to u at the same time the key just fLEW to the backseat
• and u reached for it since u had to take the food from the backseat anyways
• bUT HE REACHED FOR IT TOO
• and before u knew it, ur lips had already connected
• AND BOTH OF U JUST FROZE OK
• UNTIL U BOTH JUST PULL AWAY ALL OF A SUDDEN AND U GRAB THE FOOD AT SONIC SPEED AND UR ABOUT TO MAKE IT TO UR DOOR WHEN FELIX CALLS OUT TO U
• "y/n! wait!"
• u just stood there not doing anything
• he came running to u, panting when he stopped
• "y/n- i- i'm sorry that was not at all intentional- i just wanted the keys i swear-"
• u : couldn't hold it in anymore
• so u turn around to face him
• and spill the beANS (that sounds weird what)
• "i like u, okay? like yeah sure i know that ir supposed to be my guardian devil and stuff but i can't just be with u all the damn time knowing that i fell in love with my best friend. my guardian devil."
• he's extremely shOOK
• and it shocked him so much (in a good way) to the point where he had no words coming out of his mouth anymore
• so he did what his heart told him to do
• and pulled u close and connected ur lips again with his and u already knew his answer
• because who needs words when actions speak better than words
• and who needs guardian angels when guardian devils like felix exist already

“You keep me in your orbit, Well, I know I’m a hard one to please”
“But I don’t get it Y/N. Everything was fine like four days ago. How long have you been thinking about this? Did you even think of me and my feelings?”
Breaking up with Chan had to be one of the hardest things you’ve ever had to do. You were already getting choked up on your words and to get them out was more of a struggle than you imagined. The hurt look that flashed onto his face made your heart shatter. You didn’t want it to be like this, but you knew for both yours and Chan’s benefit, it had to be.
“Chris, of course I did. You think this wasn’t hard for me? Your feelings were one of the first things I thought of. Listen to yourself! Four days ago. I even go weeks without seeing you. I can’t do that anymore. You’re never here! All those nights I wait up for you to come home from the studio is starting to affect me. I can’t remember the last time we actually spent some time together. What about my feelings?”
You knew it would be hard to date an idol, much less the leader of a rising group. He was always busy and your schedules never matched up. You would stay up until four in the morning just to catch even a glimpse of Chan, hoping he would finish earlier than his usual times. You had early shifts for work and tried to nap whenever you could before you started your late afternoon to evening classes and sometimes after, if you weren’t stressed out with homework or picked up another shift at work. Chan felt guilty knowing all of this. He always saw the tired look on your face even when you tried to hide it with a smile, but he noticed that it never reached your eyes. He knew what he was doing was wrong but he didn’t want to let you go. He loved you and that he was sure of. The boys always told him that he was practically dragging you on a string, they said it would catch up to him one day. It’s not that he did this on purpose, he just always put his work first without realizing it.
At first, you hadn’t realized how lonely you were. In the beginning, you and Chan were inseparable. The two of you would always have movie nights and spend time with the boys and on some occasions, go on dates. But little by little he ended up spending more nights in the studio, taking rain checks and cancelling on plans. When this started you used to be okay with it, but then it became a daily thing for him. You even had thoughts of him cheating on you but even you knew that Chan was and never could be that kind of man. You wanted everything to go back to normal but you knew it never would.
“I’m so lonely Chris. Your members keep me more company than you. We saw each other more when we were friends compared to actually being together. Nothing’s working out for us anymore.”
“I’ll make it up to you I swear! I’ll stop coming home so late from the studio. I’ll spend more time with you, take you shopping, get you whatever you want. I promise, just stay please.”
“Don’t you get it Chris? I don’t care about all that other stuff. I only want you, I wanted to spend time with you. It’s too late for all that now. I’m sorry Chris, goodbye.”
“I can do better, I swear!” His voice cracking on the last word caused you to wince. “Please”
“Nothing is the same anymore. Chris, I know you notice it too. It doesn’t even feel like we’re in a relationship at this point. I miss my best friend dammit.”
“I’m still here. Your best friend is right in front of you still. We can go back to how we were. Just let me talk to Jinyoung Hyung. I can make this better Y/N. I promise. Please, just don’t leave me.”
The despair held in his voice made this all the more difficult on your end. He was holding your hands so tightly, afraid if he loosened his grip you would slip away. You had this scenario play out so many times in your head but you never thought about the raw emotions you would feel, hitting you right in the moment. Watching the silent pleas exude from his red, pained eyes made you want to hold him and forget about the whole thing. The tears slipping sorrowfully down his face. You wiped the tears falling from you, furiously, cursing yourself for showing how much this was affecting you as well.
“Do you know what it’s like to spend countless nights without you by my side? The man I love but barely see. Everyday it’s a constant guessing game to see what time you’ll come home. Or even better, when’s the next time we’ll see each other. What’s the point?! You always do this, and I fall for it every fucking time!”
“It’s not my fault you’re always so fucking clingy. I never had time to finish shit! You constantly needed attention like a damn child. Going to the studio was like a getaway. We don’t have to see each other every damn day. Grow the fuck up Y/N. It’s life.”
Chan threw his hand over his mouth. His words coming out harsher than he meant. He didn’t mean any of the words at all. He was just so angry and hurt so his natural reaction was to hurt you back. He instantly regretted having even opened his mouth. He never got angry with you for this reason.
“Y/N I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean that. I-”
“No Chris. Just save it, I’m leaving. I was hoping we could end on a good note or at least on mutual terms but I guess not. I wish you and the members the best of luck in the future. Goodbye Chris.”
And just like that you were gone. After you left, Chan wasn’t himself anymore. He only left the studio when the boys forced him to. There were times when he just sat in the studio doing nothing but watching old videos of the two of you. He would always keep up with you on social media, it was so bad that the boys had to ask you to block him. They tried to tell him it was unhealthy for him to continue his life acting like everything was normal, like you were still there, but he didn’t listen. Whatever sleep he was losing before, he lost triple that amount. He would take twenty minute naps which would add up to two or three hours of sleep throughout an entire week. He was a wreck and he only blamed himself. You were officially the one that got away.

Writing Workshop Masterpost June: What a view August-January: Reveal
Felix shivers a little as he carefully dips his foot into the water. It's kind of cold – you’d think an indoor pool should be a lot warmer but nope – so he decides to go slow. He sits down at the edge of the pool and carefully lowers his feet to the surface, giggling when the cool water hits his skin. It feels like ages since he last went swimming, which is a shame. They should go swimming a lot more. Felix's legs sink in a little deeper bit by bit. He watches with a smile as the little waves his movements cause travel through the pool until they meet the much larger waves Chris is causing by swimming his lengths. Such a show-off, Felix thinks. Even during their vacation Chris just has to get up at ungodly hours and do sports. Felix would have preferred waking up with Chris still wrapped around his back - the way he close to always does since Chris loves being the big spoon - over a sticky note on an abandoned pillow. Though he has to admit, “I love swimming in the dark, but I’m sure it will be even better with my personal ray of sunshine ❤️” did make him smile. Chris is simply the sweetest. No matter how busy he may get, he never fails to make sure Felix feels loved.
By now, Felix legs are all the way in the water and are slowly getting used to the cold. He kicks them back and forth, watching more and more waves travel towards his boyfriend, who still seems oblivious to his presence. Felix sighs as he breathes in the scent of the swimming hall, of chlorine and sunscreen and big exotic plants in between slightly worn-down plastic deck chairs. It's actually been ages since they last went to a swimming pool. Felix is pretty sure it was when they went to Sydney a few months ago to visit their respective parents. The first time they had been there together as a couple, Chris had shown him around his corner of the city. Of course, that included Chris’ dad’s swimming club, which Chris used to be part of for many years. Since then, it had become a little tradition. Every time they’re in their hometown, they get the key from Chris’ father and go into the swimming club after closing hours. Felix smiles to himself, remembering the content happiness he feels every time. He loves spending hours in the pool with Chris until they’re exhausted from all the swimming and cuddling up with one towel around both of them afterwards, sitting in between Chris' legs and lying back against his upper body. Those moments are always so soft. Chris often runs his hand through Felix's still wet hair while telling him stories of swim competitions, kids pushing each other into the pool and idiots earning themselves bloody noses through various bullshit. Chris by far hasn't told him all the stories he has in stock, and Felix is already looking forward to snuggling up to him and listening to more swimming pool adventures later.
"When did you get here?" Chris shakes his head, which his water splashing all around him, before pushing his hair back. Wow. It should be forbidden how effortlessly good that makes him look. Felix takes his time to take in Chris’ dripping wet dark hair, his cute, broad smile that makes his nose scrunch up and eyes turn into crescents, his stupid broad shoulders Felix is haunted by even in his dreams and his upper body that has Felix wonder if he’s dating a marble statue a few to many times for his own sanity.
Oh god, just far did he let his mind wander?
"A while ago," Felix hurries to say before Chris can pick up on how distracted he got just now.
Even though Chris is already waddling towards him, Felix lifts his arms to make grabby hands at him. Of course it works, making Chris try to walk faster while muttering “Almost there.” Chris slides his hands into Felix's as soon as he's in reach and laughs in content. "Good morning, Sunshine."
"Good morning." Felix leans down to kiss Chris. There are far more comfortable positions for kissing than the one they’re currently in, so Felix doesn’t linger for too long. Chris only smiles, lifts Felix’s hands to his face and kisses his knuckles.
"So, how's my technique?" For someone who cannot take compliments for the life of him, Chris sure is adamant on getting a little praise out of Felix. Though Felix has to admit, it’s cute. Felix is already looking forward to hearing Chris’ embarrassed giggle and seeing his bright red ears.
"Everything above the waist is fine, but you really need to work on your leg moves."
Chris laughs, his entire face scrunching up and the tips of his ears turning red just like they always do. "Oh god, you sound like my dad!”
Wow, what a charming comparison. "Because it's true! There's a reason people say 'Never skip leg day'."
"Oh. My bad. I forgot I'm speaking to the expert," Chris deadpans while poking Felix's thighs. Even though he's joking now, Chris has complimented Felix on his legs – in particular his strong thighs – more than once. They may not be quite as strong as Minho's or Hyunjin’s, but they're more than enough to drive his boyfriend crazy, especially when they’re wrapped around Chris’ body.
“Well, I’ve never heard you complain about what’s below my waist.” Felix lets his voice drop lower on purpose, completing his little show with a quirked-up eyebrow and a grin. Chris hides his face behind his hands and groans in embarrassment. God, he’s adorable. Chris has always had a thing for Felix’s voice, which makes it very easy for Felix to make him flustered. In all fairness, Chris also knows exactly how to turn Felix into a blushing mess, as he very successfully demonstrated by simply pushing his hair away from his forehead.
“Those are some mighty words coming from the sidelines.” Suddenly Chris' hands are on Felix's hips and hoist him off the edge of the pool. Oh fuck, Felix should have thought this through. "Come on."
“Wait, nononono-” Felix desperately tries to find something to hold onto. He scrambles to clutch at the tiled floor or the ladder or anything. Nothing works. Chris moves them to the middle of the pool way too quickly. "Chris!” A smug grin is Chris’ only reply. “Chris put me down!"
"As you wish~"
"No! Not here!" Felix screeches as he's lowered into the cool water. Fuck, that’s cold! Felix’s skin is stinging, and his entire body is shivering. He slaps Chris' shoulders, but of course his boyfriend just laughs and keeps going until Felix reaches the ground. "You're cruel." Felix pouts and whines while sliding his arms around Chris’ neck.
"I’m so sorry, baby," Chris mumbles while caressing Felix's cheek. It’s obvious that he’s sorry about how cold the water is, but not in the least about dragging Felix inside the pool. But Felix supposes that’s okay. He snuggles closer to his boyfriend, hoping to steal some of his body heat to warm himself.
"I demand a kiss for compensation."
Chris smiles sweetly. "I think that can be arranged." He slides his hand into the back of Felix's neck, getting his hair a little wet in the process, but Felix has given up on staying dry anyways. Felix sighs when Chris finally kisses him. He would have loved to get this kiss in their bed, cuddled up in the warmth of the blankets. But kissing in the swimming pool has its own charm. Together with the familiar scent, their kisses have Felix wallowing in all the beautiful memories they’ve made in and around pools.
Another shiver runs through Felix’s body when Chris runs the tips of his fingers along Felix’s thigh. After the tentative touch, Chris opts for full on grabbing Felix’s thigh, feeling up his muscles. If Felix’s mouth wasn’t so busy, he’d laugh. Maybe Felix’s little teasing affected Chris more than Felix initially thought. He hooks his legs around Chris’ body and smiles into the kiss when Chris wraps one of his arms around Felix’s waist while letting the other slide down his thigh to his ass.
“Still happy with what’s below my waist?” Felix whispers against Chris’ lips, quirking his eyebrow when Chris’ little blush turns even deeper.
“Very.” Chris pulls them closer together before kissing Felix again. Felix runs his hand down Chris’ strong back while Chris plays with the hem of Felix’s swimming trunks.
“Ew. I'm never going on a trip with couples again.”
Felix and Chris immediately turn their heads, finding Jeongin standing next to the pool with a disgusted looking expression. How come they didn’t notice him coming in? “We were just kissing,” Chris tries to claim. He’s never been very convincing with stuff like this.
Jeongin frowns at them. “The water is see-through, Hyung. I know where your hands are.” Felix doubts Chris has ever gotten his hands away from Felix’s butt that quickly. He can’t stop a little laugh from breaking free while Jeongin just makes a pained noise in response. “Anyways, you should get out, Seungmin is on his way to wake Changbin and Hyunjin so we’re going to have breakfast soon.”
“Are Minho and Jisung back already?” Chris asks.
"I really thought you'd know them better. I bet Jisung will be fast asleep until noon. I can't believe Minho actually convinced him to go hiking. Oh well. I’ll be in the entrance hall.” With that Jeongin turns around and walks – almost runs – out, probably not wanting to risk seeing any more than he already has. Felix shakes his head and places a kiss on Chris’ cheek before hesitantly detaching himself from his boyfriend and swimming towards the nearest ladder. Chris is right behind Felix as they make their way out. It’s cold now that they’re out of the water, but Chris is quick to get a towel and wrap it around Felix. Of course he hugs Felix’s and rubs his arms in order to keep him warm. Felix doesn’t have the opportunity to say that he’s fine, that Chris can take care of himself, before the towel is over his head and Chris starts ruffling the towel through Felix’s damp hair. A content sigh leaves Felix’s lips. Yes, Chris may be a little over the top right now, but Felix lives for moments like this. He closes his eyes and enjoys Chris’ gentle treatment. He could stay here and have Chris towel dry him the entire day.
Once Chris deems Felix’s hair dry enough, he pushes back the towel and places a kiss on Felix’s forehead. “We’ll continue this after breakfast, won’t we?” Chris looks into Felix’s eyes. Warm, so warm. Years of friendship and a bit over a year of being a couple still haven’t managed to prepare Felix for these kinds of moments. Chris has a way of looking at Felix with so much adoration it takes Felix’s breath away every time, regardless of how often it happens.
“Of course,” Felix eventually says before leaning closer to Chris’ ear and reducing his voice to a whisper. “I need to continue checking the technique below your waist.”
Chris makes a noise that sounds like a mixture of pain and lots of embarrassment before hiding his face in the crook of Felix’s neck. How exactly is Chris the older one in their relationship? He’s such a cutie. Felix chuckles quietly and gently nudges Chris’ head with his shoulder. When Chris looks up, Felix captures his lips in a gentle kiss. Chris exhales slowly, calmly. They relax into against each other until Felix remembers that they were supposed to get ready for breakfast. Chris’ eyes stay closed when Felix pulls away, puts his towel over Chris’ head to softly dry off his hair as well. “Don’t fall asleep,” Felix warns his boyfriend.
“I’m trying.” Despite his words, Chris voice is calm as though he might actually fall asleep standing in Felix’s arms. Or maybe he’s just at peace. Either way, Felix decides to hurry a little. They share another quick kiss when both of them are finally dry.
“Come on, we need to get changed. I bet the others are waiting already.”

Heart Of The Sea Pt. 2
Previous//Next
Genre: Fluff
Pairing: Female reader x Woojin
Word count: 1.4k
Tumblr media
After Chan leaves, Woojin finds himself watching the video over and over, there's something about this mermaid, he can't place it…
“There's no way…”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You spend the rest of your day attempting to stand, using a chair in the room, which ends up being easier than you thought, legs aren't that bad!
You're eventually able to walk around the room without the chair with relative ease, you only trip and wobble a little bit!
You think Woojin would be happy to see you're walking so you decide to leave the room and show him.
You open the door and begin walking down a small hallway, you look around but don't see him anywhere.
You turn a corner only to walk face first into what feels like a wall and fall down to your butt, “Oh! Are you alright?! I wasn't expecting to see you walking around, I was just about to come check on you,”
You look up to see Woojin kneeling down with a worried expression on his face.
His face is close as he looks you over, too close, your heart speeds and you feel your face heat up ever so slightly.
A human shouldn't make you feel like this…
You end up just staring at him, and of course he notices, “You ok? Hello?” he waves a hand in front of your face and you blink out of your thoughts, you shake your head and smile.
He sighs and smiles softly, “Well that's good,” he stands up and reaches a hand down to help you up, which you hesitantly take, worried you'll fall again.
He pulls you up and you stumble a bit, but he catches you by holding both your arms.
You readjust yourself and he slowly releases your arms, once standing on your own you hold your arms to the side and smile brightly, proud of how well you're doing.
Woojin's heart skips a beat, your smile is beautiful.
He catches himself staring before you can notice, he clears his throat and reaches a hand out for you to hold, “I was making dinner, I was gonna see if you were up and wanted any,”
You gladly take his hand with a smile, he smiles back and leads you to the kitchen where there's a pot on the stove and two bowls nestled together next to it.
He pulls out a chair and helps you sit down before quickly moving over to the stove, you can't help but watch his every move as he fills the bowls with liquid and puts a spoon in each.
You quickly look away as he turns around and brings the bowls over to the table, he sets one in front of you and then sits down at the other side of the table, setting the second in front of himself.
Once sat he smiles, “I'm glad you're able to walk again, now we can eat together!”
You're not sure how but being around him makes you happy, really happy.
Normally humans scare you, either trying to catch you or worse, kill you, to show their friends.
But when you're in this form, humans are nice to you, they like you, no one is attacking you.
You decide at this moment you want to stay with Woojin, for a while at least, and that he can never, never, know what you really are.
You spend the evening listening to him talk, he talks about how he's a lifeguard at the beach about a half mile away from his home, and the man that was here earlier was a coworker.
He talks about his family, who lives a few hours inland, he seems to miss them very much, but he also explains how much he loves the ocean and has never regretted moving here.
After eating he shows you some of his favorite music, much of which you know already, being in a traveling pod you hear many concerts on the beach side, and other times parties or just people listening on the beach.
You being a mermaid can remember most any song you hear, and can most of the time you can sing it better.
He begins singing along with some of the songs and to your surprise he can sing, like, really sing, as good as some of the members of your pod.
You're amazed, you could listen to him all night if possible.
You begin signing along with him, your voices blend well, almost too well, after almost a full verse he notices and stops what he's doing and just listens to you sing.
He hasn't heard a more beautiful voice.
Once the song ends he turns the music off, “Now why would you keep something so beautiful hidden all day?” he asks as he sits down next to you.
You realize you had just been singing and stand up quickly, almost losing your balance, and immediately go to the room, Woojin stands up and reaches out, “Wait! I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable…”
You shut the door and lay down on the bed, why did you do that?
You sit still for a second and wonder, why wouldn't you do that…?
Why haven't you spoken this whole time?
You have the ability to.
Were you scared?
It must be making Woojin uncomfortable…
You lay on the bed, in your thoughts for what feels like hours, until you hear a knock at the door.
You sit up quickly as you hear Woojin through the door, “Hey… I'm really sorry, I didn't mean t-” before he can finish his statement you're opening the door.
The two of you just stand there for a moment before he opens his mouth to say something, but you hold your hand up stopping him.
You take a deep breath before looking him in the eye, “I- I'm the one who should be sorry, I shouldn't have stayed silent, that wasn't fair to you… you who rescued me, fed me, gave me a safe place to stay… so please, don't apologize, you haven't done anything wrong,”
He stands speechless for a while, unsure of what to say, you take another deep breath, “I should go, I've taken up too much of your kindness,” you push past him, but before you can get too far he's grabbing your wrist, “Wait!”
He turns you around to face him, “You were hurt so bad you couldn't walk, and was suddenly in a strange house with a strange man, I understand you not talking. But I chose to bring you into my home, so please don't think you're in the wrong…”
You stand still for a second to think and then simply nod, Woojin smiles softly, “Now, please, at least stay the night, you need your rest after how beat up you were, I'll take you home tomorrow,”
You stand silently staring at the ground, “I… don't have a home… never really have, my p-... family, has always traveled from place to place, we were just passing through the area so I was out exploring when the storm hit. I don't remember where we were headed, and I'm sure they're long gone by now…”
“Oh, well, I'm sure they've realized you're gone, they have to be coming back for you,”
You shake your head, “I doubt it, we never went back for anything, or anyone,”
His eyebrows furrow in confusion, “That seems harsh, no family should leave another member behind, ever.”
You shake your head again, “they really aren't my family, more like friends who I grew up and traveled with, we never go back, for safety reasons, I know it sounds weird, but just believe me on this, ok?”
His lips press into a line, he sighs and nods, “Alright, but where will you go then?”
“I'm not sure yet…”
He nods again, “Well you can stay here until you figure that out, I definitely won't mind the company,” he smiles and guides you back into the room.
“Thank you…”
You lay down in the bed and Woojin opens the window to the side of the bed, he opens the door to leave the room, “I'll be on the couch if you need anything, don't be afraid to wake me,” you nod and smile.
As the door is about to shut you speak up, “Y/n…”
He stops and turns around towards you, “What?”
“My name, it's Y/n,”
He smiles, “Y/n, it's beautiful,”
"y/nnnn," jeongin whines behind you, his hands fisting the cloth of your shirt to pull you to him.
"go get some sleep, innie."
"I can't go to sleep when you're giving your pillow more cuddles than me."
your giggle vibrated through his chest from your back, his heart filling with so much love from the small sound you made. he knows you can't see him but that didn't stop him from hiding his face between your shoulder blades.
guess he wouldn't be getting much sleep with you making his heart race so fast.
This Time is Different // Jisung
Tumblr media
(omg i tired gif-ing for the first time,,,)
❖ summary:  Even Spider-Man needs a little love and that’s what you were going to give him. Every day he zips through the city saving people but nobody appreciates him as much as they should. When suddenly you come around and flip his world around
❖ a/n:  Happy Birthday to a person that brings me an infinite amount of joy and love. I have recently been obsessed with Spider-Han and I wanted to do such for his birthday. I really like the way it turned out, it a bit different for me since it’s all sweet and I usually do angst but it warmed my heart so I hope you enjoy
❖ genre: spiderman au
❖ han jisung x reader
Tomorrow is the day I’m going to talk to Y/N.., it truly can’t be this hard. I think I’m just overthinking. Han paced around his room with his mask on and looks at himself in the mirror
“You look really nice today… I love that coat on you” he stops and thinks “No that’s too childish but she doesn’t seem overly complicated”
He thought back to the time he overheard you talking to your friend
“I’m a sucker for cheesy romance scenes. I’ve always wanted those moments where you instantly click once you look into their eyes” you giggle with your friends and they roll their eyes
He smiles to himself “I got this”
Morning rolls around and he looks at himself on his phone camera and messes with his hair making sure it looks okay. He looks up and sees you approaching him. He stands up and clears his throat catching your attention
You smile widely “Hello Jisung” you give him a small wave and he smiles back quickly
“Hey y/n you l-look really g-good today” he manages to spit out
“Awe really thank you!!” You look down at your simple mom jeans and a ruffled top
“You look really good too. I like your hair”
But before he could say something back you were pulled by your friends
“See you in class,” he says softly to himself and heads to the cafe to get a drink
Time clicks away and Han sits there sighing to himself wanting more than a simple
Conversation
“Why it is so easy for me to talk to her as Spider-Man” he speaks quietly
Two weeks back
You were walking home alone after coming from a study group. It was quite chilly that night so you hugged your coat tighter. You hated walking around at night alone but your dorm was close by. You look in front of you and see a male figure in front of you. You abruptly stop and try to calm down before wanting to turn back around and see another figure. Your hands started to shake as they each got closer. You look around seeing where you can run too. When you head to run in the street, you see a figure come and knock down one of the males and went for the other like there was no problem. He sets them to the side and approaches you
Han’s POV
He was in the same cafe as y/n and your group but stayed to himself not wanting to socialize as much. After a few hours, he noticed you had left so he got up and followed you hence it was late and secondly you had no one there to walk you home. He placed his hoodie on and kept a large distance between you and him so it didn’t look like he was following you. He had stopped to tie his shoe halfway through the way to your house… as he was down tying his shoe a man quickly walked past him and he looked up to see another male in front of you. He could see the panicked look on your face and heard your heart rate increases. He looked around and hid behind a house before swinging swiftly on his web to the roof looking at both men and quickly executed a plan to take them out. As he did so he could see your eyes close the entire time and as you slowly opened them each time you heard a groan from a fallen man.
He approached you softly and takes your hand “it’s alright now” he bites his lip in his mask as you looked at him
“I- Spider-Man?” She was very shocked to see him in this neighborhood. She gave him a huge hug in which he was taken aback but doesn’t miss the chance to have you close
“It’s really no problem,” He said reassuringly as you pulled back, him slightly missing your warmth already
You fiddled with your sweater “I really want to repay you” You sat softly and his heart rate picks up and he clears his throat
“How about you just let me take you home” he smiles although it is not shown and you nod “that sounds amazing”
He pulls you close “I-I’m going to grab on to you” he hated that he stutters around you
“That’s fine just please don’t drop me,” you say looking into his eyes and give a warm smile
“I would never dream of it” he grabs your waist firmly and begins to swing on his web and you
Cling on to him not even realizing you never gave him the way to your house. He always wanted to have these moments with you but was never man enough unless he was behind the mask. He needed to find a way to talk to you as Han Jisung, not Spider-Man.
Shortly after you felt him softly hit the ground and you open your eyes looking at your house “how did you know where I live”
He didn’t think of that factor. He watched you so many times head home just so he could make sure you were safe it stuck with him.
“I am always swinging by so I tend to pick up on things and the people in the area. My friend also lives close by” He says trying to build on his lie
“Oh, really who? If you don’t mind me asking?” You look for your key as you asked
“Han Jisung” he answers quickly
“Found it… oh, Han!” You smile brightly
“You know him?” He got slightly excited
“Yes of course. He is such a sweetheart to me but I never get to talk to him enough” You pout “he’s also always so shy around me so we don’t really talk because of that but personally, I don’t mind him being shy” you never thought about how much you pay attention to him in class
“Oh yeah he is a shy kid but he should open up more. I tell him all the time” He laughs and rubs his neck
“Yeah well when he does tell him I’d love to get to know him” she approached him and kisses his cheek
“Thank you for saving me Spider-Man” you smile and head inside and Han watches you until you head upstairs and swings home yelling happily. He slips through his window and takes his mask off and flops all around his bed
“She is so stunning” he smiles happily and holds the mask to his chest. He looks over at the calendar and realized that in a week it was his birthday. He never really got to do anything for his birthday since he was always saving the city but he hopes this year will be different. He touches his cheek softly before drifting off to sleep.
Present Time
You rush to class late holding your books tightly. Your mother had taken the car leaving you to walk to campus. It was about a 30-minute walk but your alarm never went off so you had to cram in a two-minute shower, last-minute rushed makeup and a very unstable outfit. You didn’t his time to put in contacts so you had to wear your wooden circular glasses. As you walk quickly to campus you see someone swinging on web and you turn to your right
“Hi Spider-Man” you look at him and approach him
“Usually you are in class” he lowers himself more
“I am but my mom took the car and I woke up late so here I am” you brush the hair out of your face
“What a dilemma,” He says and you roll your eyes “I really need to get going,” you say starting to walk and he hops down
“Let me take you to class” He offers
“It’s truly okay” you walk quicker
“You won’t make it there in time I guarantee” you stop knowing he is right
“Okay fine” you walk back to him and hold on to him
“You look good with glasses” he smiles in the mask
“Oh hush and swing spider boy” you smile to yourself
After the incident about three weeks ago you have noticed him always hanging out and watching you make sure you got him safe. You guys have had many talks at night.., he even built a web for the two of you to lay back and stargaze
FlashBack
“When’s your birthday” you casually ask him looking over
“In one day 38 minutes and 15 seconds to be exact” He answers and you quickly sit up
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner!?” You hit his arm softly wishing he would take his mask off but you’ve already asked and have been shot down
“It’s not really important. I’m always busy saving the city so I don’t have time”
You frown and think for a moment “I need you to meet me under the large old oak tree at four in one day 35 minutes and 34 seconds” you smile and lean into him. It’s crazy to think you were falling for someone whose face you’ve never seen but his personality is what draws you in. It almost reminds you of Han. After that talk you had with Spider-Man about Han, in class, he was joking and opened up to you and you enjoyed it. It was crazy how similar the two were. You looked at Spider-Man and shake your head “no way it can’t be… but I’m not doubting it either”
He drops you off on campus “thank you so much”
He smiles of course “I’ll see you later tonight still right?”
You nod quickly “yes I’m so excited” you rush off to class and see Han sitting there and you stopped “if he is the person I think he is how-”
“Ms. Y/L/N late again?” Your professor states
“Einstein said time is relative… so maybe I’m not late you are just early” you say with a dead serious face and Han laughs “sorry it was just really bad timing”
You giggle and sit next to him “what have I missed?” You lean and catch a piece of red string on his shirt and you pull it off
“Nothing much just a small video on standard deviation” You nod and lean back in your chair.
Your classes end early due to your second professor canceling class
“Hey Y/N where you headed too?” Han asks as he heads to his next class
“I have to get stuff ready for Spider-Man’s birthday. I want to do something for his birthday since he never really gets to celebrate it” You say happily
“Oh that is really sweet” Han answers
“Mhm, I’ll see you later” you walk off quickly trying to hurry and finish Spider-Man’s gift.
A couple hours later everything is packed and ready to go. You pack it in a basket and head upstairs to shower and change into something nicer.
Once you were all set you headed to the forest to see him already waiting
“Did I keep you waiting for long?” you asked worriedly
“No not at all” you smile in relief as he answers
“I made you something but first” you pulled down his mask to expose his lips and you kiss him softly as he joins the motion and you pull away
“Happy Birthday Han Jisung” You hold the basket with all his favorite items and cartoon characters and you smile happily knowing you finally find your hero
Little Red Riding Hood
Author’s note:I’ve been writing this for so LONG AND IT TOOK SO MUCH FROM MY HEALTH♣️😩 (I tried to put a ‘keep reading’ but tumblr didn’t let me post the writing so I decided to take it off.sorry to everyone that has to scroll a lot to get to another fanfic)
Genre:tokyo ghoul au,drama,the slightest of romance(both of them are just being flirty dicks to each other)
Pair:Investigator!Bang Chan x Ghoul!Reader
Warnings:blood,gory,a lot of Hyunjin in store
Word count:4.9K
‘Another body has been found near an old construction site, reportedly of a man in his 30s. The young adult, is said to have been seen earlier that week robbing a supermarket, holding the clerk and a couple of citizens at gunpoint. The man has a criminal record for carjacking, robbery and lewd conduct in public…’
‘The bastard had it coming.’ you say cheerfully, focusing on the newly announced piece of information from the walkie talkie attached to your belt.
You had stolen the old rusty communicator a couple of months ago from the local police station. Getting called in ‘as the last person who had seen the victim’, it was shortly explained  to you that the bartender whose body was found limbless, chest wild open, was putting more than the needed stuff in the drinks.
And of course-you knew that. The moment you saw the man behind the bar spiking one of the women’s drinks, who was sitting at the bar, waiting for her beverage to get ready, and chatting in a happy-go-lucky way not suspecting a thing, you had become livid. Luring him outside in one of the dead-end streets near the bar, you listened to his screams and pleas with such satisfaction that you had gone overboard with your actions. Completely blinded by rage-the predator in you calling-you had opened him up, like a kid would do, a stuffed doll to see what’s hiding inside.
———————————————————————
Hearing a muffled cry, your gaze finally falls to the woman under your slightly hovering figure. The tentacles of the red kagune - starting at the base of your back - are tightly wrapped around her mouth to silence the screams.
‘Oh, I almost forgot about you, miss ’ you giggle softly, hitting yourself on the head, acting as if you had just forgotten something from the grocery store and not that a fragile human being was lying under your form. Most of her white coat was soaked up in blood, two small daggers that the investigator tried to use against you in a close combat fight, sunken deeply in the flesh around her shoulder area.
Balanced on your tentacles-planted firmly to the ground-you shorten the proximity between your bodies by relaxing your kagune enough, almost able to feel her ragged breath on your face.
Still smiling slightly, you delicately envelop one of the bloody daggers in your hand. At this point there are tears running down the face of the dove, her eyes screwing shut when you turn the dagger sharply, the movement making the little knife sink in even deeper.
As soon as she opens her eyes again, your expression has changed, no trace left of your breezy attitude. Your red eyes are hooded, a frown plastered on your lips.
‘I’m not going to kill you as I’m already running late because of the little stunt you pulled earlier,’ you explain with a calm tone. ‘-and I need you to be my messenger of the day, okay?’
‘Tell the new chairman of the CCG that me and the former one have a long lasting deal,’ you twist the knife again making the clothed area redden even more.’- and that I will kill every single dove I see strolling around my district and I won’t be as generous as today, got it?’ you finish with a tilt of your head and a cynical smile.
 Loosening the grip of your tentacles around her after she nods to show you that she had understood your requirements, you step back on the ground your kagune retracting from its previous spot, disappearing.
While she is trying to fix her breathing pattern, you kneel down next to her, stuffing your hand in the pocket of the white coat, fumbling a little inside. Taking out a phone you quickly send an SOS message with an exact location, throwing it once you are done, next to the dove.
‘Oh and also,’ you say while putting on your red hood, positioning the mask that strongly reminded the lying woman of a wolf face.’-tell your boss that the message is from the Little Red Riding Hood and that I’m the last person the organization wants to mess with.’
And with that you were gone, fading into the shadows.
———————————————————————
‘Did you get here so late because you had to deliver some food to grandma’s house?’ the boy you were supposed to meet 20 minutes ago, teases the moment he spots your figure approaching the old abandoned building. Smoke filled the air from the cigarettes that some ghouls had come outside to light for a quick smoke. With a few fanning motions and a couple of greetings you break through the suffocating curtain that is between you and your friend, who is leaning against the wall. Instead of answering him, you slide out your hands from the pockets of your coat, pulling them up for him to see the dry blood all over your fingers and palms. His smirk falters, a worried look appearing on his face.
You found it cute when he got all worried for you in situations that weren’t even that serious, quickly coming to your aid when you got injured, even if it was a cut to the stomach or a bruised face that he knew was going to heal in a matter of minutes. But you were especially grateful for him when things got nastier, the ghoul always having your back, no questions asked.
‘Did someone attack you?’ he asks while hanging you a wrinkled napkin from the back pocket of his jeans.
‘They sure tried to. Too bad she was all alone, trying to fight with twin daggers.’ you laugh bitterly, starting to clean the blood off with the help of the napkin. ‘Can you believe it, Hyunjin? The old man resigns from his position and all of a sudden doves start flying in trying to hunt in our district.’
‘Maybe things would have been different if he didn’t die’ you finish off, the scenario you voice out, stopping at just that- a plot which will never unfold.
Hyunjin nods thoughtfully, stroking his chin with narrowed eyebrows. After a few seconds with no response from him he suddenly swings his arm tightly around your shoulder, pressing your hair uncomfortably under it. With that you know the boy is done worrying for the day, the big smile that appears on his handsome face, lifting up your mood a little. Trying to shake his heavy hand off your shoulder, but to not avail, you jab the tall boy right under the ribs with two fingers rapidly, which makes him shriek and laugh, letting you out of his bear-like grip. After a couple of minutes of messing around, you decide to get inside the building.
At first glance the building looks close to collapsing. No front door separated the inside of it from the dark street, the closest source of light being the street lamp at the end of the alley-almost useless considering the distance from the building and the constant flickering that it did. Inside there was no paint on the walls, the elevator that had once worked gone out of service, no electricity, no -nothing. The only thing left in the creepy place were the bad smell, tag murals all over the blank walls and of course the bar.
The underground venue was a save hang out place for a lot of the ghouls who were on the run or just wanted to relax from the craziness of the outside world. You found the description, your friend and the owner of the place-Minho, had used to introduce his new bar to you, ironic, considering that most of the chaos that he was talking about going down in the city, came from the actions of the ghouls and their habits.
‘Honestly, I’ve always wondered why Minho chose this miserable lot to start his business.’ the boy next to you points out while descending the stairs towards the basement.
With every passing step the darkness, surrounding both of you becomes less. ‘I mean, have you seen that guy? He would do anything to save money. Of course he would pick a creepy building like this that looks like it came straight out of a crime movie. The last time he paid for electricity, was the last time the electrician that got the guts to come here, saw the outside world.’
A loud cackle comes from Hyunjin. ’Lino has some serious problems as a ghoul and a citizen of this town.’
‘Tell me about it’ you say mimicking the wide smile that is plastered on the boy’s lips.
———————————————————————
The energetic song, coming from the end of the small corridor that the stairs lead to, begins to create a giddiness in your belly. The corridor in front of you is illuminated by lamps, all in different colors, littering the polished floor like a small galaxy with its stars. The muffled beat finds its way through your ribs, the piano that is softly playing a cheerful melody in the background and the thought of all the sounds mixing together and then mercilessly crashing with your body once you have passed the bouncer, keeping you away from your final goal-makes you even more ecstatic to get in and enjoy yourself. At the door the bouncer barely looks towards your direction nodding, gesturing with his hand for you to put away your IDs that you had prepared to show, in case it was a different person at the door. With a small greeting from Hyunjin and a smile in return from the other boy, you finally enter the lounge.
The music and the soft colors that are mingling with the dark surround you, at last. Hyunjin quickly hooks his pinky with yours leading the way towards your usual spot, close to the small stage, where on most days, the hired band performed until the early hours of the day. Almost at the end of the crowd that is gathered around the bar and the round tables Hyunjin stops without a warning-causing you to crash into him and accidentally step on the back of his shoe. He turns around and swiftly wraps his hands around your waist, leaning down towards your ear to whisper something you don’t hear at first.
'WHAT' you raise your voice slightly trying to talk over the strong music beat and the voices of all the ghouls. You put my hands around his neck, bringing him even closer to your ear that way showing for him to repeat what he had said.
'I said that I forgot to tell you that there is a new pianist. I heard from Jisung that the guy with the neck tattoo moved to another bar. 'He said loudly into your ear, moving away from you and silently pointing behind him. A slight pout forms on your face, your eyebrows subconsciously scrunching to show your disgust. The tall boy stifles a laugh, masking it with a big smile that shows his pearly white teeth perfectly. With the same sceptic expression on your face, you continue towards the table.
The small round table close to one of the brick-patterned walls, completing the whole “bar” look, always had on Friday nights-a silver plate with the word ‘RESERVED’, placed on top. Both you and Hyunjin were regular visitors of the venue on Fridays-the table close to the stage being a constant pick from the two of you, wanting to jam to the live music as much as possible.
Sitting down, you order a cosmo to Hyunjin, whose turn it was to go to the bar and order the drinks.
A loud whine leaves his mouth followed by a couple of accusatory words about how he was the one who got the drinks for the last two weeks and that it was your turn.
Without saying a word you fixate your eyes on his, the stare that you constantly used on him when you wanted for something to go your way making the boy ‘tsk’ after a couple of seconds, seeing that you won’t budge. Swiftly turning around he pushes through the busy place, leaving you behind with a pleased smile.
Drumming your fingers lightly on the empty table to the beat of the music, you look around the little lounge. On some of the tables scattered around the place, were sitting faces familiar to you and on others there were ghouls that you were seeing for the first time. Customers change regularly, the life of a creature like you, being a constant problem. If you didn’t have a formed group, someone to have your back or you were one of the weaker ghouls, the chance of being hunted down was given at any moment. That’s how it has always been.
Once your eyes have travelled around the whole place, they finally stop on the figure, with its back on display, from where you are sitting. Trying to take a small peak of the new musician’s face you raise from your chair, tilting to the right to attempt and get a look at the strangers’ face.
‘Hey what are you looking at?’
The voice startles you making you retreat from your position, turning your head in its direction.
‘Jesus, Jinnie you scared me.’ You pant, bringing your hand up to your heart.
The boy, with two drinks in his hands is looking amused by the little scare he gave you, averting his eyes to the stage, where you were looking just now. Bringing his gaze back to you, with an even more amused face-he raises his eyebrows teasingly.
‘Someone caught your eye already, Red?’
‘Shhhhh ’, you try to silence the loud boy, a finger in front of your lips to indicate that he should shut up.
Instead of taking a seat, Hyunjin puts the drinks down, flashing you a final glance. Before you can even ask him what the hell he is planning, he has already taken four big steps and is up on the little stage, starting a conversation with the new pianist.
‘Oh my god’ you breath out, quickly sitting down at the table, lowering as much as possible in your seat. Putting your hand over your face in embarrassment, shielding yourself from the situation happening in front of you.
Deciding to take a glance after a moment, you peak from under your hand and you are met with two eyes staring at you.
The first thought you get is ‘shit, he is pretty’
His dark curls are falling into his eyes and his expression is neutral-eyes hooded-but holy fuck you don’t think you have ever seen a boy more attractive than this one.
And his smell, almost makes you sigh, the strong fragrance coming from him, almost clouding your mind.
But then another thought appears in your head:
‘He looks familiar’
And suddenly, Hyunjin is back, smiling as brightly as ever, this time taking his place next to you.
‘What did you tell him?’ you ask, your whole attention on the boy next to you.
‘Not that much,’ he shrugs, bringing his straw up to his mouth to take a sip of the mixed beverage. ’I told him that you’ve got a little crush on him’
‘You want to die?’ you tell him with your most threating tone, punching him in the upper arm-the boy almost spilling the substance of the glass, from your sudden action. ’I don’t even know him, now he is going to think I’m all weird.’ You groan, covering your face with both hands.
A laugh erupts from the guilty boy, slightly nudging your side. ’Don’t worry, I think he was kind of amused’
At his words you remove your hands, squinting suspiciously at him.
‘I think I heard him mutter a little ‘cute’ ,while I was telling him how madly in love you were with him.’
‘You are a liar, Hwang Hyunjin’ you voice out, pointing a finger at him.
‘Am not’ he says in return.
‘Are’ you answer back, this kind of bickering being a usual thing in your friendship.
‘Am not’
The first tunes of a jazzy melody start replacing the beats of the music-now turned off, the little thing going on between you and the boy, stopping immediately, both of your attention shifting to the performers standing on the grey stage- a pianist, saxophonist, bassist and a drummer.
The live music, draws a content sigh from your lips, finally feeling relaxed. Quietly chatting with Hyunjin, now and then, wanting to enjoy the music as much as possible. At one point, you are discussing the new pianist, whose name Hyunjin forgot to ask about. His style was definitely different from the man with the neck tattoo that you were used to listening to. This guy’s technique was way cleaner, regulating the sound better and there was the needed emotion put into the playing to make the whole thing almost perfect.
After 30 minutes of non-stop playing, the saxophonist announces that they will have a quick break after one more song. The piece is lively, the energy of the performers-contagious. Hyunjin is dancing around in his seat, you joining him in the process. But at one point something doesn’t feel right, the feeling of someone watching you making you snap your head towards the still playing pianist. His profile is visible and even if he isn’t technically watching you, your gut feeling is going crazy, his presence all of a sudden feeling heavy. And the uneasiness doesn’t stop.
The song ends and you feel even worse, completely losing yourself in your thoughts, now that nothing was distracting you from the bad feeling in your stomach.
Something was just not right. You were sure that you had seen the new pianist somewhere around town. But you passed hundreds of people every day if not even more. You would surely remember a boy with such an intoxicating smell like his if you had passed him down the streets of the big town. And if you didn’t know any better, you would have almost mistaken his smell for that of a human.
But that can’t be, right?
Human in the bar which only the creatures of the underworld knew about.
Unless…
Stirring your drink, your gaze shift towards the little stage, feeling someone’s eyes on you once again. The boy you were just thinking about has turned his head away from the keys of the piano, in the direction towards the small table where you and Hyunjin are sitting, a bottle of water in his hands. When he catches you starring back a shameless smirk appears on his face, followed by a quick wink, dimples prominent.
And then it hits you. The dimples.
———————————————————————
 ‘I managed to collect as much information as possible on the new members of the agency that were at the latest conference. Had the chance to snap a couple of pictures outside the building.’ the text on your phone said followed by a list of names and five images of men and women all dressed up in fancy suits.
‘You should have heard the speech that the son of the new chairman presented. I almost spilled coffee all over one lady, trying to hold in my laughter. The speech was full of over political bullshit about the differences between the ghouls and the humans. Talking about good and evil as if he knows what those two concepts mean in the situation we are in. On top of that he got appointed for a leader of a new squad.’
Snorting loudly at the text, you scroll down to the provided images. There is a picture of a young boy, under which, the name ‘Bang Chan’ is written, followed by the title ‘The chairman’s son’.
The first thing that catches your attention are the dimples. He looks naïve, the cheerfulness that oozes from him, a strong contrast to the others around him, making you believe that he wouldn’t be that much of a threat to anyone.
Your phone dings again, the new message catching your attention.
‘I also heard that he is an artificial. Guess daddy doesn’t love his son that much.’
One-eyed ghoul, huh?
———————————————————————
Of course. How dumb can you be? That’s why his fragrance was so alluring.
‘We have to leave’ you say out of nowhere, unintentionally locking eyes with the suspect.
The ‘what’ that comes from Hyunjin’s lips, sounds as if you are in a tunnel, his voice coming from somewhere far away from you. Your mind is swerving with thoughts about the situation you are in.
How had you forgotten about him? You shouldn’t have underestimated the chairman’s son with just one look at a picture. You were so far from the truth. The fact that he had found the underground bar just in a month when high class investigators have been suspicious, trying to grasp on even the smallest evidence that a place like this, where ghouls gathered, existed, made a shiver run down your body.
‘Someone snitched the place out. God, when I find the snitch, I’m going to pull all the vocal chords out of their throat.’
Suddenly the ghoul sitting next to you, stands abruptly, the panic prominent in his body language.
‘Sit down, Hwang’ you command, lightly tugging at the silver chain hanging from his jeans. ’We shouldn’t attract any attention.’
‘I don’t think that would be a problem’ he says pointing slightly towards the stage.
An intense classical melody had started playing, the unusual genre for this place, drawing all the attention towards the pianist, producing the sound with his fingers. The music grows hectic with every note, the switching between the threatening octaves with quick chattering treble figures, reminding you of a constant chase between a predator and a prey.
Predator and a prey. Isn’t that familiar?
‘I think I was right, about him being interested in you’ Hyunjin laughs lightly, without taking his off the pianist.
‘What do you-‘
‘The piece he is playing? It’s Rachmaninoff’s Little Red Riding Hood.’
At this point the music sounds out of control.
And then the screams come.
The first thing that stands out to you the most in all the havoc that is created, once the door is kicked down is the whip-like quinque that comes through the wall.
You recognize the rattling sound that it makes the moment it slices through a girl that was seated opposite the wooden door.
‘Fuck, why is Woojin here?’ Hyunjin says in a panicky voice, squeezing your arm tightly, shaking it a bit.
You were feeling as if you were watching a movie, the scene in front of you unfolding slowly, every sound around you completely dull.
Good question? Why was he here? Why were one of the most dangerous investigators, at the venue that was kept a secret for such a long time?
Bang Chan.
At that moment something inside of you switches.
Finally, turning towards the boy with the strong grip on your arm, you smile.
‘Hey are you-‘
Before he can finish his question, you cut him off, placing both of your arms on his shoulders.
‘Take the emergency stairs, you hear me? Call Minho and tell him what’s happening.’
The emergency stairs were something that Minho had come up with for exactly situations like this one. You remember him telling you about it one day, puzzled by the hatch that was in the corner of the girl’s restroom. He had explained that the stairs that were under the hatch lead to some tunnels that he found about, when looking at old plans of the building. The tunnels were connected to a couple of streets down the venue.
‘And you want me to leave you behind?’ he asks in disbelief.
‘I’ll be fine, Jinnie. And when all of this ends I’m going to explain everything.’ you say already pushing him in the direction of the toilet.
‘Hey, no let me stay here and prote-‘you cut him off for the nth time tonight, stopping your pushing motion, turning him around. Cradling his face with one of your hands, you peck his cheek softly.
‘I can’t risk losing you.’
With those last words you turn around, slowly starting to approach the fight scene.
———————————————————————
‘Oh, Red Riding Hood, long time no see.’ Woojin say the moment he finally catches the glimpse of your red coat, sending his rattling weapon, swinging towards you.
With a jump to the side you avoid the flying blades, gracefully.
Woojin was one of the high-rated investigators, whose face never matched his true scary nature.
If there was someone that you avoided as much as possible from the whole organizations, it was definitely Woojin.
‘I missed you too, Wojinnie. I’m surprised to see you working under the orders of a newbie.’ you pout in fake sympathy, delighted once you see his expression falter for a moment. But he is back to normal in a second, him closing on you, ready to strike once again.
With another jump in the air you are on the other side of the man, a laugh escaping your throat.
‘Would be delighted to continue this between us, but I have a new target to hunt down.’ You tell the young man while scanning quickly the room for the boy who was sitting at the piano, but he wasn’t there.
Taking in your surroundings on the way to the stairs, slashing with your kagune through some doves, you can’t help but fill the scorching rage inside of you. Dozens of bodies were laying on the ground, some still alive and some ghouls still up trying to fight off the enemy. Taking two steps at a time you are finally out of the basement, feeling the light breeze of the night hitting your face once you are outside.
———————————————————————
You don’t get the chance to even take one step before you are pined to the wall.
And in that moment two red eyes, meet one.
Your arms and legs are painfully getting forced by the kagune of the boy standing in front of you, his hand pressing down on your throat, to keep you in place.
So he isn’t an artificial. He is a real one-eyed ghoul. Born like that.
‘I knew that there was something fishy going on, the moment Lee Felix-one of the ‘assistants’ almost spilled coffee all over one of the women in the conference room. He started acting all uneasy when I shared my plans for ghoul termination. And from there it was quite easy getting the information I needed,’ he says calmly, a lazy smile on his face. ’Maybe next time try to implement someone in the organization, who doesn’t squirm when we talk about gory stuff?’
‘If you did something to Felix, I swear I’m going to make you regret it’ a growl like sound leaves you at his words, trying to reach him, your head almost overpowering his tight grip on your throat, but it’s once again pushed harshly against the wall making you groan.
A loud giggle emits from the boy, seeing you struggle greatly, his suffocating choke-hold, automatically making your hands wrap around his, to try to pry them away
‘You know, everyone talks about you, amongst my squad. All of them are telling me what a pain in the ass you were before you made that cowardly deal with the former chairman. But all I see is a dumb puppy who walks around thinking that she is the Big Bad Wolf.’ He puts a strand of your hair behind your ear with his free hand, gazing in your eyes. ‘But, let me tell you something,’ he says leaning to whisper the next thing in your ear. ‘There is a new Big Bad Wolf in the game and you have nothing against me, love’
He was definitely something else. He had his way with words, goosebumps travelling all around your body while listening to his monologue. But that was all there it was to him, just talk.
‘You are, you are,’ you try to question with great difficulty. ‘-definitely new aren’t you?’ ‘Let me..let me give you an advice for future references. Cut the talk because,’ he sees the tentacles too late feeling the pierce in his abdomen, his kagune loosening around your limbs and his hand around your throat. ’because it takes your focus away from your surroundings.’
With a kick to his chest, Chan is sent back flying, falling to the ground with a loud thud, followed by
groans and incoherent curses.
You place your hands on your knees, coughing loudly, while messaging your throat, marks present on your neck, left by his fingers. Once your breathing is back to normal, you finally look at the lying figure, engulfed by the dark.
Humming to yourself, a slight sway in your hips, you approach his body, Chan’s arms pressed against the gash on his lower body that had yet to start healing. Kneeling down next to him you softly trace your fingers from his neck up to his chin, taking it between your fingers. Tilting his head up, for him to look in your still red eyes, you smile softly; the words leaving your mouth next, not matching your cute demeanor.
‘You still have a long way to go, before you can call yourself the Big Bad Wolf. For now, you are going to be my Little Red Riding Hood, Channie.’
Standing up from your place you put your hood up, taking your mask out for the second time that night. Before you put on the mask, you blow a kiss to the injured boy saying your last words of the night.
‘And if you don’t behave correctly, I will eat you up and no one will be able to save you’
