WiP Wednesday

I've been tagged on Sunday and today by the wonderful amazing and insanely talented @mellaithwen @buckactuallys @capseycartwright @nymika-arts and @princessfbi - and I finally managed to write a bit today (thanks @theladyyavilee for the motivation ❤️❤️)

Buck scratches the back of his neck- "I- umm, you're aware that this is the plant art course? Which means that it's mostly very chatty 70-plus-year-old ladies."

And, yeah, maybe Eddie had been a bit too excited about the prospect of seeing Buck again that he hadn't exactly looked at the topic of today's course.

He feels the heat rise up to his cheeks and – because he doesn't know what to say – he giggles breathlessly and resorts to, "Umm, I'll have you know I'm a big hit with all the women in my aunt's knitting club."

Buck perks up at that, "You knit?"

"I- umm, it was the pandemic and I- it's very soothing actually and-" Eddie stops his stuttering, shrugs and says, "Yeah, I knit. Sometimes." (The countless pairs of socks he's made for A-shift and the gigantic throw-blanket that's residing on his couch might disagree with that last word.)

"That. Is. So. Cool!"

"Oh," Eddie blinks slowly, not having expected this response. His heart skips several beats and he suddenly feels very soft, looking at Buck, who's looking right back at him with a big and excited smile.

It feels good, Eddie reckons, meeting someone you can just be yourself with.

Happy Pansexual Day of Visibility! Sana being Pan was something I didn’t really need to think about. It was just something that made... sense, to me, much like my own identity inherently just clicks into place. It’s weird (in a good way) to me that despite never feeling any personal connection to the label, as soon as I see it through the lense of Sana, I’m like “oh, that makes total sense!” She has so much love to give to the world, I suppose. The one I'm most satisfied with has to be If You Playing Me That Mean My Home Aint Home, just because it was my first full length fanfiction and the first I wrote for the avatar fandom. It is what inspired me to keep writing, what made me realise I enjoyed the process and maybe I was good at it too💙 It was such a labour of love, I didn't know what I was doing but I worked so hard on it 🥺 It's also the work that has the most mistakes, retconning, format issues and plot holes, but that's okay and I love it even more for them 💞💞

The one that is hardest to write is definitely my modern au! The Cat's in the Cradle was a response to my sudden realisation that I loved modern aus 💀 Plot and dialogue are my weakest points I think, and these just seem exacerbated in the modern au 🙌🏻

And the one most enjoyable to write? At the moment it's Caught, although I've loved some of the oneshots I've done in the past (and obvs If You Playing Me). I love writing the angst between Quaritch and Spider, and Caught is a pressure cooker for all of that. I find it much easier (and faster) to write angst compared to fluff, idk what that says about me 😬

was on a bit of a bender, sent a bonkers ask to a another poor blog and forgot about it, but now I think about it, it mightn’t have been as bunk as I thought? I think it went like this

“The clowns are playing their part to perfection” -> thinking about clowns with set parts/roles, Pierrot’s sad relationship/love triangle with Columbine and Harlequin -> pierrot’s character over time has had a lot of range (mostly a sad underdog jokester) -> a 20th century/modernist interpretation of Pierrot as part of ts elliot’s inspiration for the Lovesong of J Alfred Prufrock -> (loki reading other Elliot texts) -> “prufrock” poem pretty lokius-flavoured ? -> is mobius or loki in the sad pierrot role ? Maybe both? Sad little clowns, playing their parts to a fault :(

Anon if this is you on a bit of a lark I can't even begin to imagine your full power, lol! What an fascinating take that tbh I wish I had even an ounce of the literary awareness necessary to process as thoroughly as deserved but will happily give it a go anyway 😅

I've always found that "clowns are playing their part to perfection" line of Loki's especially striking because while I'm sure it was meant to imply a dismissal of the situation and nonchalance over loss of control, there's no reason it would have the intended impact when nothing about the TVA had come across as less than hypercompetent?? From B-15's seamless takedown of Loki in the first place to the efficient process of variants, swift guilty ruling as his lack of access to magic is scoffed at, and Mobius having the upper hand as a Loki expert there's not really anything for that line to do except hang there as much higher symbolism so I think you're right to look at it in perspective to both Loki and Mobius considering how much they ended up mirroring each other right down to the temporarily (forever an optimist 😂) tragic romance of their ending.

On that note it's very interesting there are such clear comparisons between Loki and Pierrot since as you mentioned Pierrot's known for being an underdog and prankster to hide his unhappiness, flawed and in search of love, not to mention having a near "obsession" with Columbine only to often end up pining for his best and only friend the Moon 👀

While I'm biased and usually think of everything in terms of Mobius so I see both Pierrot (with his sense of endearing, eternally youthful energy) and Harlequin in him, in this case it makes sense to look at him in terms of Harlequin and how he's usually in high spirits, uses his clever nature to solve and escape problems easily, and unlike those around him doesn't hold onto grudges against those who have wronged him. There's also his TVA service that later turns into full devotion to Loki similar to how Harlequin is later considered a witty, faithful valet (""Why aren't the two of you in cahoots with him and his butler?") and it's notable how Loki is described by Mobius as a man of action when in pantomime Pierrot eventually takes on many of the characteristics of Harlequin, ending up representing the symbol of the artist just like Loki created a new story in the end.

Apologies that Prufrock I'm not quite as familiar with outside of a general awareness, but if I remember correctly it ultimately conveys an isolation or distance from the world after being too afraid to confront the surface level emptiness of life?? Which if so talk about Lokius being doomed to the narrative after failing to escape their past circumstances and getting (temporarily!!) confined in the very places they feared 😬

It's been two hours. That's it. Two hours, and already Itto is hounding Chongyun for answers. "Did you name it? C'mon, you gotta tell me. I even found a new beetle so we'd be evenly matched during our first battle!" Which made his constant asking a mite hypocritical because he has yet to name his own friend.

The fervor of one Arataki Itto was, in Chongyun’s mind, more comparable to a midsummer storm than that of an emotion. Perhaps due to their few shared instances together, the abruptness of his inquiry is enough to startle the exorcist, his friend, too, scurrying up his arm in the same action, its antenna twitching in Itto’s general direction. Chongyun, at a point, believed his special day would be better spent at the side of his cohorts than trudging down the same footpaths he had likely strolled throughout his life, but — maybe expectations would always be defied in the case of Itto. Pocketing that thought, Chongyun turned to address his shoulder-perched companion, delicately raising his shoulders in a half-hearted shrug.

“I have considered many names, but none seem to be to its liking,” if the shifting of its legs stood as an indication of its disapproval, anyway - Chongyun was still not trained in interpreting the speech of insects. “I have never had to name a... uhm. It feels wrong calling it a ‘pet.’ I have never had to name anything, actually - all of my techniques were given their names by former leaders from my clan.”

However, now that Itto had appeared, another name, or maybe a tribute, came to mind.

“Maybe... Cloudburst?”

With the click of its mandibles, a winner seemed to have been decided. Admittedly, the creep and crawl of the creature was an odd sensation, but... it was fun, having a traveling companion.

“Then, Cloudburst it is. We have not gone through any training... but whenever we have completed our preparation, we will see you and, ah... what did you name yours? - Uh, we will see you both on the ‘battlefield.’ I will take care not to step on it, this time.”
